Note
hypothetically if someone where to write a medieval royalty au where thaluke happened what would be somethings that would be interesting, and in this extremely hypothetical au they've only met like 3 times also how would one hypothetically incorporate swabian food and culture into the hypothetical fic?
Well to start off I'd like to say that I would enjoy it very much if you could send me a link to whatever work you will do in this hypothetical AU. Also I'd like to thank you for giving me an excuse to geek about my culture. ANYWAY ONTO IT ALL, so the easiest, most obvious way to bring in swabian culture would probably be the dialect. However that could only really work if the work was in German, which is props isn't, so the swabian dialect (which is a GERMAN dialect) props won't be able to get to use. After that you could definitely bring in traditional clothing! Now there are a few flavours of swabian based on where you are- I for my part am from the Black Forest, which is why I'll use that as a reference.
You could definitely use inspiration from our traditional clothing, the Schwarzwaldtracht! It's quite the old and traditional thing, the red cap you can see is called the Bollenhut, and women are allowed to wear it after their first holy communion. For men it's the bit stereotypical Lederhosen-ish look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ofcourse there's also things like food, in which we have quite the variety. A personal favorite of mine are Käsespätzle. You can imagine it kind of like a German Mac and Cheese but better.. It is made with the traditional Swabian noodles called Spätzle, it is mixed with stewed onions, cheese, bacon and then flavoured with salt and pepper. After that it's backed for about 20-30mins and voila! It's done and in my opinion a great meal! It's unironically one of my favorites and a childhood meal. Some also serve it with a mushroom sauce.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that we can ofcourse to festivities, which I think this one called Fasnacht will be quite interesting for your AU in terms of romance. You can imagine it a bit like German Halloween, but longer and with a much longer tradition. Fasnacht traditionally is celebrated the week before lent, meaning six weeks before easter. It starts from Schmotziger /The Dirty/ (a Thursday) to the Aschenmittwoch /Ashen Wednesday/. During this week so-called Narrenumzüge happen (lit. translated to Fools Parade). Basically there are these huge parades of so-called Narren (fools), Narren are people dressed up in different costumes as different characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here you have a few! Each village or community has their own kind of Narren, with their own unique costume and "character". They are organized in Narrenzünfte (Fools' Guild). They are basically just communities for everyone dressing up as them, with officials and all. Each Narrenzunft has their own sort of "motto", it is a phrase or word consisting of two parts. One will be said by a Narr (singular of Narren), the other by someone watching the parade. What happens will be that the different Narren will come up to people during the parade, they will then say part of the specific phrase of their village/community and the other person has to say the rest. If they manage to do it they then get either candy, in some cases alcohol and even things like brezels and other foods. They also have so called Narrenhymnen (Fools' Anthem) which, just like the name says, is a anthem for the specific Narrenzunft. Generally this time is considered to be a time to "let go of all rules" and "go crazy". People dress up in costumes to go visit these parades and also go to parties. Imagine just a week of drinking and partying all around. Now ngl this Fasnacht is HUGE with many other things, this kind of Fasnacht is also very much southern. While celebrated around all of Germany, the northern version is much different. I really advise doing your own research or sending me a DM or two if ya have more questions! You can easily have Luke and Thalia meet during this or something akin to Fasnacht in costume! If you want this to be set in swabia itself...well, don't. Genuinly I can only advise you DON'T. German history is an absolute mess even outside of the 20th century. Most our known history was spent fighting each other, Swabia being one of those areas which were conquered and given up and sold etc. genuinely it's a shitshow and if you do not want to get into German history just avoid historical swabia all together. Welp, I hope I was able to help you with this answer !

The Magyar invasion of Saint Gall from the Codex Sangallensis 602, manuscript dated 15th C. CE
"According to tradition, Saint Gall, a learned, probably Irish monk and faithful disciple to Saint Columbanus, founded a hermitage on the site that would come to encompass the abbey St. Gall around 610.
The abbey of St. Gall flourished during the Carolingian Era (750-887), emerging as a regional center of learning and trade. Housing one of the first monastery schools north of the Alps, the abbey had grown into a massive monastic center, replete with large guest houses, a working hospital, farms and stables, and a renowned library. The abbey quickly became a magnet for Anglo-Saxon and Irish scholars and monks who copied and illuminated manuscripts. Wealthy nobles, in turn, enriched the abbey through patronization and donations of land. By the turn of the ninth century, the abbey was among the most prestigious and wealthiest in Europe.
Three chroniclers substantiate, in different versions written between 970 and 1074, of a Magyar attack on St. Gall and its environs. The Alemannian Annals, written in the ninth and tenth centuries, mention the Magyars nine times, while the St. Gallen Annals of the tenth century do so fifteen times. The most interesting information about the Magyar sack comes from the chronicle of the monk Ekkerhart IV who lived more than a century after the invasion. According to him, as the Magyars swept through Swabia and entered the vicinity of Lake Constance, Abbot Engilbert took protective measures to ensure the survival of the monastery. He ordered the abbey’s old monks and young students to move to Wasserburg, which lies along Lake Constance and near Lindau, to await the siege. The younger, stronger monks were to seek refuge in the woods and hills near the village of Bernhardzell, to the northwest of St. Gall.
On May 1, 926, the Magyars stormed St. Gall. The attackers advanced to the church of St. Mangen and set it on fire. They also tried to set fire to Wiborada’s hermitage, as they could not locate its entrance. Meanwhile, other Magyar warriors ransacked the monastery, taking what booty they could find.
Despite observing their lust for loot, the chronicles praise the Magyars in their ability to assume battle formation in a matter of only a few seconds, in their use of a sophisticated network of couriers to communicate with troops from afar, and in their mastery of various weapons. Noted further were the Magyars’ love of wine, music, dance, and fresh, tasty, meats.
After a few days of rest, the Magyars moved on to target other Swabian cities, leaving the imbecilic Heribald behind. When the monks and friars returned to St. Gall to assess the damage, they questioned Heribald about what he had seen. He reportedly said, “They were wonderful! I have never seen such cheerful people in our monastery. They distributed plenty of food and drink.”"
-James Blake Wiener, When the Magyars invaded St. Gall. From the Swiss National Museum blog.

Reinhardt Thoughts
• He doesnt just LIKE Currywurst, he LIVES Currywurst
• Will try every Currywurst he sees, jotting down criteria and rankings on a rugged piece of paper
• "This isnt even a REAL Currywurst!!" *proceeds to explain in excruciating detail what the ideal Currywurst is*
• Nobody has the heart to cut him off (and you couldnt if you tried, he is done when he is done)
• Im getting really tired of writing Currywurst so we'll end it there but you get the gist
• Is canonically from the Schwarzwald, which is full of Swabians and also has some lines with swabian dialect in the german dub
• I cant understand swabians at all though so in my headcanon he speaks normal german aka "Hochdeutsch"
• At least until he gets angry, then he switches to swabian
• Because if you thought german insults are one of a kind already, you havent heard what an upset Swabian sounds like
• An excerpt: "Ärschlesschlubbfr", "Sauhond", "Rotzaff" or "Arschbaggagsichd"
• Swabian culture includes a lot of special dishes with all kinds of meat, so he isn't picky about eating intestines or other unusual parts
• Generally not a picky eater, but needs meat on his plate
• Likes to eat often and a lot, still in the mindset to fuel his 30yo giant body even though he is much older now and needs less calories (but some more padding never hurt anyone)
• German dad cook; aka scrambled eggs, spaghetti with premade sauce and boiled potatos with quark
• He did inherit a giant traditional cookbook from his grandmother and begs the more experienced cooks around the base to help him prepare a goulash or svabian raviolis (i just looked it up and cant believe thats the english translation)
• Mercy, Mei and Brig try really hard to cook healthy vegetarian dishes, but Reinhardt can and will pull out a sausage from anywhere to put into his food (he gets em imported from home to assure the best quality)
• Adding an extra note here just to mention asparagus. I kid you not as soon as the first asparagus is barely grown the germans rip it out of the dirt and dont eat anything else for a month - asparagus for breakfast, lunch and dinner
• Reinhardt will not be an exception to that, as well as Mercy
• "Das einzig gute Bier ist Schwarzbier!" ('The only good beer is dark beer!')
• Brig and Mercy keep a close look on his alcohol intake, but he is allowed a "Feierabendbier" on the weekend
• Usually combines that with watching football/soccer on the couch
• Lucio joins him, even though he doesnt really understand the german commentators
• The living room fills up quickly with people who dont care about the game and just enjoy the company/some alcohol together (only bap and cass really drink as well, lets be real)
• Often found in the living room watching german quizshows or crime thrillers (there are so many you have no idea)
• Every sunday evening there is a new "Tatort" (cult classic german crime thriller since 1971), and woe betide you if you dare occupy the TV around that time
• He complains every single time how bad and repetitive they are but continues to watch of course
• Watching a Tatort is an event for family bonding time, so Brig has been joining him since they started traveling together
• Cassidy is amused by the bad writing and Mercy is familiar with the tradition, so the couch is full every sunday
• If not watching TV he is working on his Crusader Armor
• If it doesnt need repairs it needs to be polished and if it doesnt need to be polished it needs to be upgraded and if it doesnt need upgrades it needs to be repaired
• How to keep three people at the base constantly busy (Monkeys and swedish squires hate this trick)
• Because not all parts of his armor need to be changed or repaired simultaneously it tends to be scattered around the base during off-mission time
• Sometimes they are lying on the couch, sometimes in the hallway, all times inconveniently placed
• It drives Pharah mad but they are incredibly heavy and she cant always remove them herself
• So the only ones being able to effectively carry these parts from room to room are Winston, Zarya and Reinhardt himself (Zarya secretly loves it when people ask her to get the shoulder pad off the kitchen counter again) (its a good work out)
• Even though Reinhardt is creative with his armor placement he still seems to know exactly where each piece is and can quickly assemble it if needed
• Can drive a car
• Do not let him drive your car
• He is way to tall to ride comfortably and just sits there hunched over so his head doesnt hit the roof at every bump
• His driving style is... unsteady. Drives relaxed and slow on one road, going way over the speed limit on others, stopping way too early or way too late, sometimes rough, sometimes so careful as if there was a baby sleeping in the back
• At the same time road rages at others (the self-driving cars cannot figure out what the hell he is doing and react very confused)
• I figure most cars are already self-driving in the overwatch universe, but Reinhardt is definitely one of those people to still own an old model that doesnt have this yet (and refuses to get it upgraded)
• Dog person
• Grew up with at least two big family dogs and knows how to handle them
• Will inform you if he considers your dog poorly trained/socialized
• Murphy used to be his highlight of the day when Sojourn brought him to work
• Now there arent any dogs at the base anymore and he'd love to adopt one, but knows he couldnt properly give it all the care it deserves because of his job
• There IS a cat at the base now though (Brig brought Mitzi to Gibraltar in my head)
• Mitzi has known Reinhardt ever since she got adopted
• Do you know that saying "a cat always finds the one non-cat-person in a room" that person is Reinhardt
• Whenever Mitzi is not chasing Ganyemede, eating things she shouldn't or climbing around on delicate lab equipment in Winston's workshop, she is bothering Reinhardt
• Sleeping in his armor while he is trying to polish it, jumping on his lap during Tatort time (and immediately being lifted off again), stealing the salami off his sandwich when he isnt looking - Rhein will not know peace while others desperately try to catch Mitzi's attention
• There is nothing he can do besides moving the cat or shoo-ing her off for a while (knowing she is waiting behind the corner until he lets down his guard)
• Brig thinks this is incredibly cute and has a hard time keeping a straight face while Reinhardt complains to her
• Did you know that cats can be trained like dogs? Cool right?
• Rein eventually figures that out as well. And since Mitzi is very food-oriented, I think she would be easy enough to work with.
• He does it in secret first, but when Brig finds out she makes them both perform in front of the whole team
• Reinhardt starts boasting about it after that and the human-cat relationship increases steadily
• Loud sneezer, regularily-gives-Brig-heartattacks-loud
• You can hear them across the whole base
• Birkenstocks, Socks in Sandals you know it
• A good german dad runs around at home only with a shirt and his undies
• But in Gibraltar Reinhardt cant do that so instead he settled with a tank-top and gym shorts
• Forces Brig to use extensive amount of sunscreen but insists he doesnt need any for himself
• Therefore always sunburnt in summer
• Used to work-out but has toned it down a bit lately, instead using the Gym to do stretching and mobility-exercises with Mercy (only half-voluntarily), being joined by Mei, Genji and Echo (the latter more for emotional support)
• There is a big shelf full of giant heat pads for Grandpa at the gym
• Dont tell anyone but sometimes Cass and Mercy use them as well
• Lucio steals one for his hammock so he doesnt freeze during winter
• You bet Mitzi loves to sleep on them whenever they are in use
• Used to play soccer semi-seriously in his younger days
• If you ask him to play he gets up, rolls his shoulders, cracks his knuckles and says "You aren't ready for this" while taking out the most rugged soccer ball you have ever seen
• He isnt really in shape to run very fast or long anymore but whenever he shoots everyone leaps away to safety
• Lucio still really enjoys playing with him (he didnt really get the chance to do a lot of dad-activities in his youth)

fave comfort dish
thanks for letting me talk about food 🫡 there's a few dishes that come to mind.
one is very simple, pasta with tomato sauce. however (italians, please look away), i mean tomato sauce made with butter, flour, tomato paste and water which is the way people used to make it in the gdr, probably because it was cheaper. and somehow, through time, that recipe made it all the way to north rhine-westphalia, where my mom's grandma thaught it to her. it's kinda sweet and just has a very distinctive flavour that reminds me of my childhood.
another one is stuffed peppers, which obviously exists in different versions in many different cuisines. i like the way my mom makes them because she only stuffs the peppers with a mixture of ground meat, herbs, seasoning and bread crumbs, cooks them in tomato sauce and then serves them on rice instead of adding the rice to the stuffing. 11/10 autumn and winter dish.
another dish that i love very much is käsespätzle. 'käse' means cheese and 'spätzle' are swabian/alemannic pasta in an elongated shape. the spätzle are layered with grated cheese (the type of cheese depends on the region, we just use what we have at home) and, in the traditional preparation, garnished with fried onions (as far as i know). we leave those out, throw in a tonne of parsley instead and make the käsespätzle in the oven rather than in the pan. it tastes good either way, especially with a salad on the side.
lastly, before this answer completely spirals out of control, maultaschen (another swabian dish, despite none of my family being swabian lmao). maultaschen are dumplings made from pasta dough with a basic filling of sausage meat, onions and soaked bread rolls (vegetarian fillings are usually with cheese and spinach). i like them best in vegetable stock or chopped and fried in a spinach and cream sauce. they're just so satisfying to eat.
okay, one more thing, if you don't wanna cook and go get something instead, nothing beats a döner (kebab). fucking love those.
alright, i will shut up now. i'm so sorry.

PLANTOBER # 20 ROSEMARY Still recovering from the drawing marathon, but soldiering on, because art and those lovely people who always come, and check my silly drawings! -you folks are fuel for this engine to run, much of love for you all! That said, another rather brief glossary for the rosemary, which name comes from "sea dew". This Mediterran shrub is known for its fragrance and because of that, it was used in perfumes for centuries. Mostly known for its culinary values, this plants are also used as natural antioxidant and preservative, essential oil, hair-loss aid, and was also key part of ancient Egypt's embalming and mummy preparation. Symbolizing remembrance of the fallen heroes in Europe and from Australia, and a key symbol for multiple Danube Swabian ceremonies, rosemary is deeply rooted in cultures furthermore proving how long people did know this plant, and how important it is! So to summarize this a bit, no matter if to please the senses, enhance foods, remedy or remember someone important or key moment in our life, rosemary will be there, making our time here on Earth much richer. As always, thank you so much for taking a look at my art! Leaving a like, comment or sharing means a ton to me, and is more than appreciated! 🤗 Tools: pencil, ink, watercolor and watercolor crayons, white gel pen, white ink. My socials: keik-keik.carrd.co

Today I barely slept...a vicious mosquito kept lusting after my blood. But seriously now, between the buzzing on my ear and the several mosquito bites I feel like...I dunno, like she really was after me (I think only female mosquitos sting?) I tried to kill her, but I was tired, so I was slow. After she was satisfied, she disappeared. Now I got a few hours sleep, but still feel absolutely tired and decimated. Annihilated. Completely destroyed.
That's the closest thing I will ever get to someone thristing over me and you know what? I'm pretty damn cool with that.
Well, there WERE people thristing over me, but...I always felt really uncomfortable.
If they were anime people though...! I mean...!
How did I get from mosquito bites to thristing over anime characters again. Life sure is weird, huh?
---
Today I have Swabian Maultaschen as my food of choice for lunch. I needed something easy to make, since the guys who are building on in my house sometimes intrude into my appartment to check the heater. Something about going eco-friendly. It's good, don't get me wrong! But I wanted something healthier for lunch...
---
These next days, until October (so about...two weeks?) I won't be able to write so often, since I'm going to be fairly busy with something.
I left a few posts in the queue though, in case someone needs their daily dose Sae (which said...literally nobody ever...but well, my concience is clear)
---
I want to reread my light novel volumes for Apothecary Diaries again soon, but with the construction site in my home, I can't concentrate (it's really noisy!) good thing its fall again though, which means they can only work as long as they got light outside.
---
I showed my friend some Pokemon cries I whipped out in Audacity, and she said they were really good! I am kind of proud of that. She is generally very supportive of my creative escapades, so It made me very happy.
---
Sorry for the lack of bridge between the updates, I am exhausted from the sleep deprivation. I don't exactly have the mental capacity to try to be funny right now, so please excuse the dry rundown.
Maybe I'll feel better after a while, who knows.

12, 20, 52 and 76 for that weird asks game :) if you want!
Helluh!
I tagged the game with the ask tags, so you can look it up for yourself. The ask tags will be the same as under this post. Now, let's get kraken 🦑🦑 (no I never tire of this pun).
Question 12 asks for the name of my favorite playlist. Now, I don't do playlists very often, I usually will listen to albums. I have, however, made a few thematically-linked lists on Bandcamp which can probably be counted as "favorite". They are called "Greeks doing BM", "Swords and Sorceries", "Helvetic Vndergrovnd" "War Metal" and "Schwarzes Metall".
Question 20 asks about my preferred place to write. I write both on my phone, and on my laptop; and I have started a new project in longhand. I usually write in my living room, sitting either on my couch or the rug; but honestly, I can and do write almost anywhere.
Question 52 asks for my favorite font. This one is easy, it's Cambria, I love writing in Cambria. My Kindle app is set to Georgia. I also enjoy Helvetica, Times New Roman and that Old English one. Although this mostly goes for my writing, I usually can't tell what font a book is using.
Question 76 is about my favorite potato food. I don't really like fries, actually, unless they are really, really well made. Like I'll eat them if they're present but I don't seek them out. I love mashed potatoes, and potato salad -- but only the Swabian and Franconian versions that use only oil, vinegar, onions, salt and pepper. No mayonnaise, no bacon, no pickled gherkins and NO FUCKING MAYONNAISE GET THAT away from my potatoes.
So there you have it. Thanks for asking, this was fun, everyone reading this, feel free to hit me with some of the other questions. :)

German Kasespätzle with Bacon
Kasespatzle is a Swabian dish consisting of al dente German egg noodles baked with caramelized onions and melted cheese. It makes for the perfect side dish for German food or your Oktoberfest celebration.
Sides, Soups, and Salads Origin: German, European Method: Stovetop, Oven German Kasespätzle is popular version of this classic Bavarian dish. Popular in the Swabia region of Southwest Germany, this cheesy spätzle is combined with melted cheese and caramelized onions. We fell in love with spätzle during our time travelling through Germany, and it was always one of our favorite German side…

That's rich of christians to accuse jews for "tricking" God, when it was the catholics who invented Maultaschen (German version of dumplings), which in Swabian dialect are also called Herrgottsbescheißerle, (roughly translated into screwing over the dear Lord), because those dumpling were filled with meat and were and still are most popular during Lent. Their reasoning was that because the meat was stuffed inside the dough, god "wouldn't know" that people are eating meat during a time when they're supposed to abstain from it.
Or declearing beavers to be fish, and thus okay to be eaten during Lent. There are a few more examples of christians finding a work around for a biblical law/church law etc. and different ones for each denomination of christianity, but the food based ones are what came to mind first. So yeah, they shouldn't be judging Jews for being innovative in interpreting their religious laws, when there are very real culinary examples of christians doing the very same.
And regarding the Muslims: just like in Judaism, when it comes to interpreting islamic law (which by the way is not one monolithic thing, as there are as many interpretations of the Sharia as there are schools of thought throughout) and how to interpret it, and also to figure out how much leeway one has in following it is the job of the religious schollars, aka. mullahs and mufties etc. Where one may interpret the qur'an and hadith in a strict way, there's another who will adapt his interpretation of the same sura/hadith in accordance to changing times, cultural habits, societal context (esp. if muslims live in a majority non-muslim country etc.). Also, there's one hadith that states that: One aspect of one's perfection of Islam is minding their own business.
There's also the last line of sura a kafir-un, that, roughly translated goes like: lakum dinukum waliyadin/You have your believs, and I have mine.
So, in that sense, dear muslims: lakum dinukum waliyadin, and happy eid mubarak
On Twitter there are currently a lot of Christians and Muslims getting really angry about ways that Jews work around restrictions on work during Shabbat, and, like, honestly I do not understand why they care? Just a lot of non-Jews telling nice Orthodox Jews that they’re doing their religion wrong for no reason.

Maultaschen Photo: Katharina Hild/imageBROKER/Shutterstock
Maultaschen from Swabia are a lot like ravioli but bigger. They are typically palm-sized, square pockets of dough with fillings that run the gamut from savory to sweet and meaty to vegetarian. A traditional combination is minced meat, bread crumbs, onions and spinach -- all seasoned with salt, pepper and parsley. They're often simmered and served with broth instead of sauce for a tender, creamier treat, but are sometimes pan-fried and buttered for extra richness.

(Ich wäre ja gern dabei gewesen, als über die 'Entwicklung' dieser Brezel bei ‘Ditsch’ gesprochen wurde. XDDD)
