I mean, Lan Xichen, being the eldest and heir of the north (having more domineering characteristics) is the most spoiled by Mobei Jun because he is as bright and charming as his Qinghua, all the demons are still in awe of Lan Xichen because of how handsome and strong, then the youngest son Lan Zhan (who looks more like a human) is the one favored by Shang Qinghua because he reminds him of Mobei Jun when he was young, he doesn't know how to say his feelings without being a little defensive and he is very quiet. But it doesn't matter that everyone has their little one spoiled, because they love their children too much.

Now you can imagine Mobei Jun giving advice to Lan Zhan to conquer Wei Wuxian (who in this AU would be BingQiu's son), something like "ignore him, the more indifferent you are and look at him badly, the more he will like you, that worked for me your baba" and Lan Zhan from "Mmnn"

Ok so I was thinking, what if PIDW wasn't a novel, but a drama available on streaming platforms? So when SY transmigrates into SQQ's body, he perceives everything around him just like the audience is seeing it on their screens: with the low-budget fighting scenes that had him obliterating his keyboard with bad reviews, the soundtrack (that is pretty well-done and he actually enjoys it, but that doesn't mean he likes to hear the same silly song every time something embarrassing happens to him), the landscapes that are obviously made with green screen… Even the fabrics of his costume look cheaper than they should, considering the status of his character. Also, for some reason, everything that should be off-screen in a normal filming set (be it cameras, directing staff, or make-up artists) looks like a blurry continuation of the background, making the whole transmigration thing even more nonsensical than it already is.

But nothing disturbes him more than the fact that, just like everything around him is made out of an artificial project, the people also look just like in a drama, because SY suddenly is surrounded by literal celebrities acting like they belong in the pages of a badly written xianxia novel. And ok, to be fair just this time, he's aware they are currently living in a xianxia setting, but his brain can't deal with this logic sometimes. Like, yes, Sha Hualing is a badass character and is always a pleasure to see her fighting choreography in first person, but SY can't take her seriously after seeing her face plastered on a big advertisement while waiting for the train home the other day. And don't even mention Liu Qingge, whom SY can't even look in the eye thanks to the sexy, shirtless photoshoot his actor was part of (that SY saw against his will, because he obviously wasn't searching for handsome shirtless men on the internet. The photos were everywhere; it was a matter of time for him, a chronically online nerd, to see them after going viral the way they did, thank you very much). God, he can't even stand his reflection without panicking a little over his new handsome face, wich also happens to be the face of the actor that always plays the most brutal villains, but is just a chill guy in real life—starring variety shows and giving autographs to the older ladies with a warm smile on his face; that kind of chill guy. If he's as trash as the villains he plays, SY will never know.

And the worst of it all is: Luo Binghe. It doesn't bother him too much at first; his white lotus era makes him look really young and sweet, even though there's an obvious layer of makeup covering his real age, and their feet are always blurry when they're together, probably hiding an uneven floor to make 15-year-old LBH look much shorter than him. But then the abyss happens (and GOD what a shitty green screen that was), three years pass in a literal blur, and the white lotus isn't a fake teenager anymore. And ok, SY can be straight, but he isn't blind; the actor was chosen as LBH for a reason. The man is gorgeous, with that strong jaw, intense eyes, and the height of a supermodel. AND he's talented; SY has seen his other roles and is a genuine fan of his work. So of course, he nails his acting as blackened LBH so much that SY is incapable of perceiving it as acting anymore.

Imagine his surprise when the show turns into a BL and he's suddenly kissing LBH with tongue and all! Sure, it has been a while since he can't see the man as anything other than LBH himself, but he still looks just like that handsome actor that even his little sister had a crush on at some point! What's with this nonsensical plot twist? Wasn't the stallion protagonist supposed to be papapaing the eleventh wife at this point of the plot? Hello?? System???!!!!!

The funny thing is: not even the papapa can escape from the blurry off-screen logic. Yes, SY knew the scenes were typical soft-porn with too much emphasis on doing close-ups of LBH's manly muscles and the wives soft, big chests (he went through a lot of those while watching the show, mind you), but he never thought their papapa would be just them being naked with poor illumination and blurred genitals. So SY never gets to see the Heavenly Pillar. But he feels it. Thoroughly. And for the first time in months, he wonders if it was just a PIDW thing or if the actor truly is talented in all areas of his life.

“There's…” he hesitated, glancing at Shen Yuan nervously before sweeping things around, going through names of missions. “There's stuff missing. And I can see the names, but now it's all gray? I can't select my old logs.”

Shen Yuan opened his own system, checking the same options Airplane had gone through, finding everything normal.

“That's weird, even for the System,” Shen Yuan took a step back, picking up his fan, tapping it against his palm as he walked back and forth. “And you don't remember getting any messages?”

“No, I would have told you if anything had popped up!” Which, yea, Airplane wouldn't be able to hide something like that. And they had been enjoying a nice life for the past couple of years, finally living their happy ending. Yes, some wife plots here and there but…

“I thought it was done with us now that the story was finished.” Airplane's voice cracked at the end, and this time Shen Yuan couldn't help but feel his heart squeeze for his fellow transmigrator, murderously rampant or not.

“Okay, we have to think.” Shen Yuan went back to walking, pressing his fingers against his forehead, his crown starting to feel too tight on his head. “We know Linguang-Jun was working with an Owl demon. Did he say anything else?”

Airplane blanched, trembling hand going over his mouth, rubbing his fingers over closed pressed lips. It took him some moments to compose himself, shrugging as he made the screen vanish.

“He said it wasn't a Demon, but a Heavenly being, which makes no sense, I didn't write the Heavens-”

“Oh so you do remember what you wrote, amazing!”

“-But he also said that they wanted Mobei-Jun alive. He said that they were powerful and they knew all about Linguang-Jun's schemes, down to the people he had bribed, that's why he had to help them.”

“Did he at least describe them? It was an Owl type of creature but what else?” He stopped next to the table, moving papers around with the tip of his fan. He couldn't help but think that something else was going on. “If we have the physical description we can focus on one area of the map.”

Shen Yuan huffed when Airplane ignored his comment completely only with a twitch of an eye. Airplane couldn't physically hurt him, Shen Qingqiu's cultivation skills being better than Shang Qinghua could ever develop, but Airplane looked just enough on the edge that he might try his luck with a punch.

Shen Yuan didn't want to test his limits, so he ignored that he had been ignored, letting it slide.

“He said that they arrived as a white Owl, then they changed to their humanoid form.”

Shen Yuan froze, eyes going wide. The color helped to focus their search on the Northern Desert, but where? The area was huge, most of it completely uninhabitable except-

“The Polar Owl,” he mumbled, not bothering to answer Airplane's “what?”, shoving away the pile of useless notes to grab the huge map of the demon realm hidden under it all. “You only wrote one fucking normal animal in this entire weird ass story, and it was the Polar Owl,” Shen Yuan grabbed a brush to circle the places the Owl hypothetically lived, not cursing out loud Airplane's lack of following through with backgrounds. This time. “They live in the furthest north anyone ever been, no one else can survive the low temperatures except-”

“The Mobei line.” Airplane's whisper wasn't loud enough to interrupt Shen Yuan but the awed expression on Shang Qinghua's face was.

“Exactly.” Shen Yuan snapped his fan open, a smirk tilting his lips up as he straightened up his shoulders, putting on his best peak lord smug face. “And they are considered sacred to the Northern tribes because of their resistance to low temperatures. Thus it is completely possible that Linguang-Jun thought that the person he spoke with had come from the Heavens.”

Details I loved in SVSSS (and I'm reading the book).

1. Luo Binghe is from an Artists' Peak. For completing his arts education under the loving tutelage of Shen Yuan, he became a typical art kid: Overly dramatic, has anxiety, no bitches, possessive/obsessive, and cries 'why nobody loves me' during shower after abyss.

2. Shen Yuan's Luo Binghe is not that good at sex (mentioned in volume 4). GOOD POINT WITH REASON.

I'm glad that the novel did not fall to the typical BL trope in where top is always amazing in everyway. Tired of those tbh. I love Bingmei's imperfections.

3. Shen Yuan still has trashy personality (or the author is the trashy one, idk). But as an avid reader of a stallion porn novel, stereotypically, he is quite a trash (incel is the term, I think). He is still sexist, and his internal monologues go straight to objectifying women. Like, how Sha Hualing is described with her sexiness in mind despite being a capable demoness general herself. Stupid author, stupid novels.

4. It may not be that Shen Yuan is a trashy male, it could be that he's just really gay for the MC of PIDW and he will deny it until he dies (which he did, so now there's no denying). Because if he is just pure trash in his early 20s, he would not be as kind to everyone, changing the story inevitably.

5. We as readers are always told by Shen Yuan that original Luo Binghe is the best masculine representation, he is OP, he has protag halo, he solves the cases quickly by being OP, he is charming, he is the best of the best etc. However, one chapter in meeting this Binghe and Bingmei together, we inevitably realize that Binghe is an empty jackass, like the stereotypical jock in your wattpad stories. He's just OP, and then nothing else. He lacks depth, and it was delivered in such subtle way.

6. Liu Qingge was offended that he is not Shen Yuan's fated one. Attacked a whole demon lair for it.

7. Ning Yingying's over reaction upon Original Luo Binghe's familiarity towards her (Calling her Yingying instead of Ying-Shijie), tells us that any woman in Shen Yuan's fixed world would be perturbed of any hint of romantic relation with our Bingmei, saving all female characters from the tragic caricature.

I read the CN version so I ended up being confused too. I don’t think there’s a single instance where his hair being straight or not was said.

I think LBH’s fluffy hair is something that originated from the English copy of SVSSS. Like a lot of donghua and Fanart from East Asia and South East Asia depict him with straight hair or mildly curled.

I don’t really think there’s a fandom argument for it?? If there is, it’s a weird one.

Personally I don’t care, and I feel that Binghe is cute in all forms haha!! Straight or curly!

Been inundated with posts about the character descriptions in the 7seas mxtx releases, and I just wanna say that I find it the highest level of disrespect how a publisher treated someone’s serious writing that they bought the publishing rights for as a little jokey joke that’s lead to so many people’s misconceptions about said book. Tell me: why do these character sheets include publisher/translator opinions on the characters? Why do these character sheets directly go against what the actual text has to say about these characters? Why do these novels need character sheets?
