Yandere! Suyin Beifong Headcanons
Tumblr media
You weren't fond of Su when you both were younger
You thought she was spoiled and got away with everything
When Su got involved with the Terra Triad, she told you, thinking it was cool and impressive
It was quite the opposite. You told her they were terrorist and you couldn't believe she would join such a group
She was frustrated that you didn't understand
The group fills her mind with nonsense and fuels her yandere tendencies
When her mother sends her away, she is furious. She won't be able to see you, but you don't want to see her
You don't see each other until you're both young adults
She had changed and she reached out to you to come visit the city of Zaofu
You were hoping for the best, so you agreed to come
Little did you know it was a trap
You ended up getting hurt pretty badly and she offered you to stay
Though, you never get better. She keeps you sick by putting stuff in your food
Anytime you start getting better, you're hit by an even worse sickness
You practically become entirely dependent on Su
You feel bad, but she doesn't mind. In fact, she loves taking care of you
You do end up developing a sort of Stockholm Syndrome and when you do, Su slowly stops poisoning you
And when you're finally better again, your relationship with Su begins to develop and bloom

Dancer
Lin Beifong x reader x suyin beifong
Summary: both Lin and Su like you but you’re very oblivious to Su’s advances (thank you to @2sosa for requesting this! 💖)
You live in Zafuo with the Beifong family since you were one of Su’s dancers. Su liked to house her dancers since you all performed often. You’ve met Su’s sister Lin a few times and you two really connected. You thought Lin was so strong and beautiful. You had a thing for strong women that could easily pick you up and lift you over their shoulders. It turned you on for some weird reason. Anyways Lin was coming to visit! Su was throwing a big party and invited Lin and the rest of team Avatar. You couldn’t wait to see Lin but you had to practice when Lin arrived but you would see her after.
The next day you ate breakfast then went to practice. For some reason you were struggling to keep up with everyone; it was probably because Lin was on your mind. All you could think about was seeing her. After practice Su made you stay behind. “Tell me what’s going on Y/n.” Su said as she walked over to you. You couldn’t tell her you were thinking about her sister! You shrugged. “Come on, you can tell me, you normally can keep up with everyone else. What’s going on?” Su said and ran her fingers through your hair.
“I didn’t get much sleep last night. This party is bigger than what we normally do so I’m also nervous about that.” You lied. “There’s no need to be nervous. You know you’ll do great, you're my little star.” Su said sweetly. “Thanks Su.” You said. “Of course and you know you’re supposed to get some sleep, rest is important.” Su said. You nodded. “Now come on, we're going to practice.” Su said. “Ok.” You said. Su helped you practice one on one. She stood behind you and guided your arms and hips. “There you go. Now I’m going to stop helping and you do it by yourself.” Su told you.
You nodded then did the whole dance routine by yourself. Su watched you intensely as you danced. You knew you were doing everything right. You know how to dance and follow choreography. Your mind was just clouded with Lin. Once you finished you looked at Su for approval. “That’s my girl. Very good girl.” Su praised you. You smiled real big. “Thanks Su.” You said. “You’re welcome sweetie now go shower then say hello to everyone.” Su told you. “Ok.” You said and ran off to go to your room. You took a long shower then did some makeup after your shower.
You wanted to smell good and look good for Lin. Once you were ready you went looking for Lin. “Y/n!” You heard someone shout. You knew it wasn’t Lin but it was ok. You turned and saw Mako. “Hey!” You said and walked over to him. “Good to see ya, how are you?” Mako asked. “Good to see you too and I’m good. How are you?” You asked him. “I’m good, you excited for your performance coming up in a few days?” Mako asked. “Yeah I’m really excited and I’m so happy you guys are here.” You said. “Happy to be here to support you.” Mako said. “Thanks Mako.” You said.
“Come on, let's go find Asami and Korra. You know they’ll be happy to see you.” Mako said. You nodded. Hopefully Lin is with Asami and Korra. When you found them they were with Opal talking but no sight of Lin. Where the hell was she? You gave Korra and Asami a hug and you guys talked for a while. “You look so pretty.” Asami said. “Thank you.” You said. You saw Lin walking with Kya while you were with everyone else and you wanted to run over to her but you didn’t want to be weird. Ugh! You kept glancing over at her hoping she would notice. She always told you she knew when people were staring at her.
Lin eventually looked over at you and you smiled at her. “Oh there’s chief.” Mako said. You all made your way over to them and you gave Kya a hug then looked at Lin. “It’s good to see you again Lin.” You said sweetly and batted your lashes at her. “It’s good to see you again as well, Y/N.” Lin said. “Oh the twins are having a power disk game soon, do you guys wanna come watch?” Opal asked. “I need to go get lunch I didn’t eat after practice.” You said. “I’m surprised mom didn’t yell at you.” Opal said. “She doesn’t know I haven’t eaten yet.” You said. “Makes sense.” Opal said.
“I’m not interested in going, you all have fun.” Lin said. “Oh come on aunty Lin.” Opal said. Lin shook her head. “Fine, come on guys.” Opal said and led everyone away. “Come on, let's go get you some lunch.” Lin said. You smiled. You two headed out and went to go grab lunch. “I’m glad you could make it.” You told Lin. “I wouldn’t miss you dancing for the world.” Lin said. “Really?” You asked. “Yes really. You’re a beautiful dancer.” Lin said. Your heart fluttered at her words. “I really missed you.” You said shyly. “I missed you too.” Lin said and put her hand on top of yours.
Oh now your heart was ready to leap out of your chest. After lunch you two made your way back home. “Writing letters back and forth is nice but it’s much better when we’re in person.” You said. “I agree I wish I could come visit more but you know criminals never stop.” Lin said. “Criminals suck but you do what you have to do to protect the city.” You said. “Maybe you could come visit me.” Lin said and held your hand. “You want me to come visit you?” You asked. Lin nodded. “You can stay with me when you come to visit.” Lin said. “I would like that.” You said. “Good we can plan something and I’ll show you all of Republic City as best as I can.” Lin said.
“I can’t wait to see your city.” You said. Lin smiled. After a while it was time for dinner and you sat between Lin and Su. Under the table you and Lin kept touching hands. You were trying not to smile like an idiot but it was so hard. Everyone was laughing but your main focus was Lin. All you did was listen to her talk you love when she talks. Once dinner was over you went to your room and took a shower. You cleaned your face from makeup then washed your body. After your shower you put on your pjs and laid down on your bed.
There was a knock on your door and you sat up. “Come in.” You said. Su opened the door and came in with her eyes covered. “You decent?” She teased. “Yes I’m decent.” You said and laughed. She uncovered her eyes. “Don’t seem too decent to me.” Su said and closed the door. “What do you mean?” You asked. “Those shorts seem a little short and that tank top seems really tight.” Su teased. It was true that your tank top was tight. “I can see your nipples as well.” Su said and waggled her brows. You covered your nipples and laughed. “They seem as hard as a rock, who were you thinking about?” Su teased as she sat next to you.
“No one, it's just cold. I just got out of the shower.” You said. “Mhm sure.” Su said. “I’m telling the truth.” You said. “Anyways make sure you get some rest. It's important. I need you to be my good girl tomorrow and keep up with everyone else, ok?” Su asked and ran her fingers through your hair. You leaned into her touch and smiled. “I’ll be good, I promise.” You told her. “I know you will. You’re always my good girl and you make me so happy.” Su said. “I always want to make you happy, Su.” You said. It was the truth you wanted to show her how good of a dancer you are and for her to be proud of you.
“You make me very happy.” Su said. There was a knock at the door. “Come in.” You said. Lin walked into your room and she was surprised to see Su. Your heart fluttered at seeing Lin. “Su.” Lin said. “Linny.” Su said, then removed her hand from your hair. “I have that book you wanted to borrow. I just wanted to know if you want it now or later.” Lin said. “Oh I’ll take it now please.” You said. Lin nodded. “I’ll be back.” Lin said. “Ok.” You said. Lin left your room. “Don’t stay up late reading.” Su said. You nodded then she left your room.
After a while Lin came back and you smiled. She sat on your bed. “Hi.” You said. “What was Su doing in here?” Lin asked. “Oh she just wanted to make sure I don’t stay up late because today I wasn’t keeping up with everyone because I stayed up so late. I couldn’t sleep.” You said. “Sleep is important. You need to rest.” Lin said. “I’ll sleep soon, I just want to spend time with you right now.” You said. “We’ll spend time together tomorrow I promise. After dance practice we’ll go to lunch together again.” Lin said. You pouted. “Don’t pout honey.” Lin said. “Fine, I'll see you tomorrow for lunch." You said.
Lin left your room and sighed. You got comfortable in bed and fell asleep. When you woke up you went to the bathroom. You brushed your teeth then fixed your hair. After that you went to eat breakfast with everyone else. You and Lin sat next to each other and again you two were holding hands. When it was time to go dance you didn’t want to because you wanted to spend time with Lin but you had to go dance. You did your best at practice because you wanted to show Su that you could keep up. You wanted to please her. After practice Su pulled you aside. “You did so well today. I'm proud of you.” Su said.
“Thank you Su.” You said. Su nodded then ran her fingers through your hair and you smiled. “You were a very good girl today. Keep making me proud and keep up with everyone.” Su said. You nodded. “Go shower and then eat.” She told me. You nodded and ran off to go shower. After your shower you put on makeup then got dressed. There was a knock on your door. “Come in.” You said. Lin opened your door and you smiled. “Hi.” You said. “You ready?” Lin asked. “Ready.” You said and walked over to her. “You look beautiful.” Lin said. “Thank you, you look beautiful as well.” You said. Lin nodded and you two left.
It was the day of the party and you were getting ready. You were running a little late but it was nothing serious. When you left your room you ran into Su. “There’s my pretty girl.” Su said. “I know I’m a little behind.” You said. “It’s ok honey you have plenty of time.” Su said as she walked over to you. “I know but I still shouldn’t be late.” You said. “It’s ok. Are you gonna be my good girl and do well?” Su asked you and stroked your cheek. “I’m gonna do my best.” You said. “That’s my girl.” Su said and pulled you close to her and you smiled. “Su.” You both turned and saw Lin. “What are you doing?” Lin asked.
“Mind your business Lin.” Su said. “I thought I was seeing things when you were in Y/N’s room but now I know I’m not.” Lin said. You were so confused on what Lin was talking about. “Lin, I told you to mind your business.” Su said. “Su you’re married.” Lin said. “Lin mind your business.” Su said again. “I’m sorry but I’m so confused right now.” You said. “Suyin, a married woman has been flirting with you the whole time.” Lin said. You looked at Su. “Is that true?” You asked Su. Su sighed then nodded. You had no idea what to say. “Why couldn’t you mind your business Lin?” Su asked.
“I have a performance to do.” You said and tried to walk away. “Y/n.” Su said. “Su let her go perform.” Lin said. “Lin go away. Why do you even care?” Su asked. “Because you’re married and I like her.” Lin said. Oh there goes your heart again. “Well I like her too.” Su said. “Again Su you’re married! You’re just like mom can’t hold a proper relationship.” Lin snapped. You couldn’t believe they were arguing like this in front of you. “Lin you haven’t been in a relationship since Tenzin you have no clue how to love someone.” Su snapped.
There was a metal pole that came flying and you and Su ducked. “You could have hit Y/n!” Su shouted. Lin didn’t say and just sent the same pole to hit Su. Su went stumbling back. You got up and ran over to Lin. “Stop it.” You told her. Lin pushed you up against the wall and you heard the pole clatter on the floor. “Now you could have hit Y/n.” Lin hissed. “You just always have to get in my way.” Su snapped. “Su be so serious!” Lin yelled. The two of them kept arguing and you couldn’t take it. “Hey!” You shouted. They both look at you. “Don’t I get a say in any of this?” You asked.
“Of course you do sweetie.” Su said. Lin nodded. You sighed. “Su you and I can’t be together. You’re married. I’m not going to be anyone's affair partner or side piece. I can’t do that. I deserve to be shown off and not hidden and that’s how you and I will be. You'll have to hide me and I just can’t do that and I like Lin. She gets me and I know she won’t hide me.” You said. Su just took a deep breath then nodded. “Well I hope you two are happy together. Let’s go so you can make it in time for your dance.” Su said. You nodded and you all left.
You made it to your performance and kept up with everyone and did amazing. Once your performance was over you went over to everyone and Lin immediately kissed you. You melted into her kiss. This is all you’ve ever wanted. “When did you two start dating?” Korra asked. “Today.” You said with a big smile. You went over to your fellow dancers and Su hugged all of you. Once she got to you she held you tight. “If you and Lin don’t work out you can always come to me.” Su teased. “Su.” You said. “Just teasing but I hope she makes you happy.” Su said. Lin came over and Su let you go then gently pushed you over to Lin.
Lin held out her hand and you took it. She pulled you into her and you two kissed again. After the party you and Lin went back to your room. “This has been an interesting night.” You said. “Did you really not notice Su was flirting with you?” Lin asked. “No not at all, I thought she was just being silly. I didn’t take anything she said in a flirty way like when she called me her good girl. I didn't think she meant it like that.” You said. “She called you her good girl?” Lin asked. You nodded. “And you didn’t take that as flirting at all?” Lin asked. “I thought she meant in a mentor way or something.” You said.
“Such an oblivious girl.” Lin said and shook her head. You stuck your tongue out. “Put your tongue away before I make you put it to good use.” Lin said. “Make me.” You said then stuck your tongue out again. Lin pushed you onto the bed and climbed on top of you. You quickly put your tongue back in your mouth. “Oh no no baby girl don’t think you can behave now.” Lin said.

Icy Waters Vol. I
Chapter Seven
It’s six months before another note arrived.
Things had been going well in hindsight; Kiko got another job, as well as the one at The Union, so she was earning a little extra money, Bumi had come to visit again, she was having regular healing lessons with Katara, who assured her that she didn’t need any more lessons in combat, and in general, the feeling of eyes on her became a less regular thing.
She’d even had a rather successful birthday on Air Temple Island with the Beifongs and the Avatar’s family.
Kiko walks up the large flight of stairs to reach the Air Temple, unbuttoning the top of her black shirt after coming back from work. It had been a busy night, but she was glad to not hear any happy birthdays from any patrons.
Not that she’s told anyone her birthday here anyway.
It's a difficult day for the waterbender; without any family to celebrate, she never made it a regular habit to do something. Especially after moving to Republic City.
However, clearly, someone found out.
She jumps back like a scared cat, bending some water into ice shards as a weapon as she hears jumbled shouting.
“Dammit, Bumi! You ruined it.”
Kiko’s eyebrows furrow, her alarmed expression morphing into one of confusion. Dark silhouettes emerge from the bushes, illuminated by the street lamps dotted along the path.
She makes out a group of people, led by Kya who is scolding Bumi. Aang has a large smile on his face, Katara and Sokka by his side. Tenzin is also there, standing next to Lin with Toph and Su behind them.
“What...?” She can hardly mutter out before Katara interrupts.
“Happy birthday, Kiko!”
She looks at her best friend with an unamused expression, “Really? How did you find out?”
Kya turns to Lin, who is standing next to her mother. She has a slightly guilty expression, “I got the Chief to find your file. You know, you’re a hard person to find information about.”
Kiko's jaw drops slightly in disbelief, “I can’t believe you. That is so creepy, not to mention an insane breach of privacy!”
“I’m a police officer, and you’ve been arrested in Republic City before; technically, I wasn’t doing anything wrong. Besides, the majority of your file was locked.”
Kiko’s eyes narrow and she opens her mouth to speak, “Don’t be mad at Lin, she was checking for me.” Katara interrupts, her smile not faltering.
“Why?”
“Everyone deserves to have a nice birthday. We thought it might take your mind off everything that is happening.” Kiko stays silent for a moment, her eyes roaming the hopeful faces all looking at her, but Katara carries on, “I made roast duck.” She says in a teasing sort of tone.
Kiko’s head perks up at the mention of her favourite food, “I suppose I could stretch to having some nice food.” She walks past the group, “But no singing.”
So, when Kiko woke up one morning, the sunlight muted from the clouds and her sheer curtains, spotting a new envelope on her bedside table, the waterbender was understandably uncomfortable.
She almost doesn’t want to open it; the threat Toph has given her is still on her mind, if there’s any escalation further than some notes, then you are joining a programme immediately.
Kiko sits up and throws her legs over the edge of her bed, her head pounding from the lack of sleep she had received the night before. Working two jobs and having healer training is really taking it out of her; she’s hardly ever on the Island now. Katara will probably have me on house arrest after this.
They had all been hopeful that the waterbender’s stalker has stopped trying to contact her after six months with not a single new note. However, they have clearly decided now that they are done waiting. Kiko can’t help but feel a sinking feeling in her stomach, this is the start of something bad.
She reaches for the note on her bedside table, hands shaking slightly out of nervousness. It's in the same format as the previous two; a neatly pressed envelope with a single sheet of paper. And the writing, gorgeous copperplate, clearly written with good quality ink.
Her eyes scan over the crisp piece of paper, a shiver crawling up her spine.
I’m getting impatient. Reveal yourself or who knows what might happen to your pretty girlfriend and her sister.
Kiko’s heart is racing and she feels her hands start to become clammy, her breathing quickening at the words. Pretty girlfriend? Reveal yourself? She shakes her head and places the note face down back on her bedside table. Just what am I meant to reveal? Kiko scans her brain for answers to the question.
They had been close to figuring out who was the one who sent the notes; Chief Beifong had sent the second note Kiko received to be brushed for fingerprints months prior. It had made it to the lab well, but as the evidence was being sent back to the police station, the car carrying it was raided.
It was the Amber Wolfbat Triad, Toph told her, almost indifferently. There’s nothing we can do. They lost the evidence that day, and Kiko knows that it’s only going to get harder to figure out who is doing this.
Kiko sits on the edge of her bed, face in her hands. She knew something like this was going to happen. She knew that she had put Lin and Su in danger, and yet, she couldn’t stay away. A little voice is nagging in the back of her brain, you need to cut ties. It has been her go-to method when she gets too close to people, when they start to ask questions about her childhood.
And yet, cutting ties with Lin seems like an impossible task.
They had just begun getting closer; her and Kiko were spending lunches together, taking turns in deciding which restaurants they go to when they have aligning lunch breaks. Though, Lin doesn’t need to know that I sometimes take my lunch later just to eat with her.
It was only yesterday they had visited Narook’s for food that, as Kiko described, was the most authentic Water Tribe food in Republic City.
Kiko turns the corner on Kyoshi Street, Narook’s coming into view.
To this day, it’s the most authentic Water Tribe food she’s found in the city, specialising in Northern cuisine.
Her stomach growls aggravatedly, despite her shift at The Union not being a particularly busy one. Kiko's lips quirk up into a small smile at the thought of being able to share one of her favourite restaurants with Lin.
However, her smile drops as she notices the earthbender in question already standing outside the restaurant.
“I see you’ve beaten me here.” Kiko acknowledges, in a slightly teasing tone.
“The Chief let me off earlier.” Lin smiles.
“You’re lucky. Boss has been giving me as many shifts as possible. If I even think about leaving early, I have him screeching in my ear.” Kiko shudders, her and Lin walking side by side into the cozy restaurant.
Lin snorts, “You do know you’re entitled to time off?”
“I know that.” The waterbender says, a little to defensively, “I just- I'm finally making a little more money and- and I like being able to see something and just say, you know what? I’m going to treat myself to that today.”
Lin nods, “I get that,” She muses as they sit down at an empty table, “We could always get out of Republic City for a few weeks? Kya invited us to come along with her to Ember Island.” She perks up even more, clutching the menu, “And Izumi would be there! She would love to meet you.”
Kya had left to travel over the past few months; sending letters from each of the cities she was visiting. The last letter Lin had received was from Ba Sing Se, where Kya admitted to wanting to visit somewhere familiar; Ember Island. She invited the whole group to come, with Bumi even being able to take some time off to come.
Kiko recoils a little, “Really? It doesn’t seem like you to willingly take more than a few days off work. Let alone a few weeks.”
“It would be relaxing.” Lin carefully avoids Kiko’s very true words about not taking time off work.
Kiko shrugs, “We could always ask Kya about it.”
And that’s how Kiko was roped into going to Ember Island.
The waterbender sighs at the memory, the pleasant emotions she had been feeling seemingly so far away. Well, I’d better call Lin about this note.
She stands, pockets the envelope, making sure not to crumple it, and heads to the phone in the living room of the temple.
---
Kiko thought that it would take at least an hour for Lin to make it to the island, prompting the waterbender to head to the gazebo that overlooks the bay, where most Air Acolytes come to meditate.
She had always hated meditating; staying still in one place for hours was never easy for her. And it wasn’t a common thing to be encouraged in her household, not after what happened to her mother.
And yet, Kiko found some sense of mind in that moment, sitting in the lotus position and breathing deeply helped her to briefly forget about the chaos of what was happening. Of the stalker. Of her slightly complicated feelings for Lin. Of her unresolved childhood trauma.
It was all too much.
But in that moment, the waterbender allowed herself to relax.
However, after about 10 minutes, she feels a presence behind her. Turning around immediately, she comes to face Tenzin. Kiko gets up, “Need something?”
She doesn’t particularly have the best relationship with the airbender; knowing that he is practically head over heels for Lin doesn’t help. He's always huffy and grumpy around Kiko, preferring to ignore her existence and live in his own little world where he believes that the earthbender is in love with him.
Tenzin rolls his eyes a little, clearly not happy to be talking to the waterbender, “Lin’s here. I offered to come and tell you.”
Kiko raises and eyebrow, “Oh yeah? Willingly talking to me now?” She teases with no real amusement, “Or are you only here because Lin wanted to talk to me?” The waterbender moves close to Tenzin, who rolls his eyes again.
“She’s in the living room.” He grumbles, ignoring her question.
Kiko backs off, taking a few steps back before walking past the airbender, muttering a quick thanks.
What in spirits’ name is his problem with me?! The waterbender thinks angrily, walking through the cobbled courtyard of Air Temple Island. She half-heartedly stomps up the rest of the steps, walking into the living room, where Lin is sitting patiently on the couch.
She raises an eyebrow, “Another note, you say?” She gets straight to the point, arms crossed.
Kiko nods almost solemnly, sitting next to her friend, “Unfortunately.” She takes out the slightly crumpled envelope and hands it to the earthbender.
Kiko watches Lin’s facial expression closely, noticing her eyes widening slightly before she puts on a mask of no emotions, “Who is this referring to?” She points at the words, pretty girlfriend.
The waterbender’s face reddens a little, muttering out her next words, “I’m guessing that they are referring to you.”
“What? But we’re not dating.”
“Yeah, I know that.” Kiko rolls her eyes a little, her tone a little sarcastic.
Lin decides to ignore the comment for now, “We need to get this to the Chief.”
“So she can do what? Send it to the lab and get it stolen again?” Kiko asks, her sarcastic tone persisting, “There’s no point, no one is doing anything to help me.”
“Then join the programme the Chief recommended.” Kiko huffs a little, knowing that it would be the best idea, but before she can say anything, Lin continues, “Why are you so insistent that you don’t want to join anyway?”
Oh boy... “I just- I guess... I've always had a bit of a problem accepting help from others.” Kiko keeps her eyes trained on the wooden floor.
Lin is silent for a few seconds, before she hesitantly places her hand on the waterbender’s shoulder, her thumb drawing comforting circles into her dark skin, “I- uh... I’m not very good at this but- you can always come to me for help. For anything.” The earthbender takes her hand away, but is stopped when Kiko catches it, “I- I don’t know if that helped but-”
“Thank you.” Kiko squeezes Lin’s hand before releasing it. She flops down on the couch and runs a hand through her loosening hair, “I guess we should go to the station then?”
Lin nods, “I think that would be the best idea.” She replies, pocketing the note that Kiko had handed her earlier.
It takes 10 minutes for Kiko to freshen up, before they are on the ferry to the mainland.
Kiko feels a slight weight being lifted off her shoulders at the thought of joining the Zheng Hai protection programme, despite being so against it in the beginning. But, of course, Lin managed to break through her walls and convince her to join. She just seems to have that effect on me... the waterbender thinks, as she looks at Lin’s sharp side profile.
“Were you at work today?” Kiko questions, taking note of Lin’s civilian clothes.
Lin shakes her head, “No, I took the day off for myself.”
“Oh, well, I guess this probably isn’t what you had in mind.” The waterbender looks out to Air Temple Island, watching it get smaller as they get closer to the mainland. She can’t help but feel a pang of guilt at ruining Lin’s plans of relaxing for the day.
“Hey, what did I say earlier? Don't worry about coming to me for help; that’s what friends are for.” Kiko only hums, her eyes latching catching Lin’s. The earthbender continues, “But, if you’re really that worried... we could grab some dinner after going to the station? It might help to take our minds off things.” Her tone is hesitant, with a hint of hopefulness.
Kiko smiles, nodding slightly, “That would be great.”
She is also hesitant, though not in the same way as Lin. Her stalker already thinks that her and Lin are more than friends, and now that she knows that they are back to threatening her, the thought of going out with Lin brings Kiko a great sense of anxiety. What if they decide to attack? The thought makes the waterbender’s heartbeat quicken.
Kiko hopes that Lin didn’t catch onto her nervousness, but it’s evident by the look on her face that she did, “Is everything alright? Your heart is racing.” She asks, concerned.
The waterbender looks away from her piercing green eyes, “I- uh- I don’t want to put you in any more danger, is all... the stalker already thinks that we’re dating.”
Lin’s face falls a little, but a determined look flashes across her features, “I can handle myself.”
“We don’t know what we’re up against.”
“I’m a Beifong. And you’re a strong waterbender, I know you’ve been training with Katara.”
Kiko interrupts, “Healer training.”
“That only proves my point more,” The earthbender looks a little smug, “Katara knows you’re amazing at hand-to-hand combat.”
“Yeah, enough to beat you.” Kiko snickers, thinking back to the time they sparred with no bending.
Kiko stands in the courtyard of Air Temple Island in only her cream-coloured bindings and a pair of navy blue shorts. Across from her, Lin is wearing a white tank top and similar shorts to Kiko in black. The taller of the pair can’t help but risk a few glances at Lin’s strong thighs.
Lin finishes wrapping her arms and stands with her feet shoulder-width apart, “Ready?”
Kiko nods, standing in the same position as Lin, “Remember, no bending.” She teases, giving the earthbender a small smug smirk.
She rolls her eyes, but nods anyway, stalking closer to the taller woman.
Lin immediately curls her fingers into a fist and throws a punch, going straight for the offence. Kiko catches her fist, twisting the earthbender’s arm and sending a jab to the gut to wind her. Lin doubles over briefly, before straightening up almost immediately and sends an uppercut straight for Kiko’s jaw.
The waterbender swears under her breath as she feels her teeth collide, feet stumbling backwards as she feels Lin’s presence follow her. Wow, she is really not pulling her punches. Kiko thinks, tasting a hint of metallic blood in her mouth.
The two agreed not to go easy on one another, excited to be able to properly spar without knowing that they are seriously going to injure one another. They are both on the same level when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, after all.
However, just as Kiko recovers from the blow, Lin sweeps her legs out from under her, causing the taller of the two to go falling to the floor. She lands on her front, and Lin gets on top of her, wrapping an arm around her neck in a weak headlock, “Yield?”
Kiko makes a weak attempt to shake her head, but then decides to use Lin’s weight on her back against her, and rolls both of them over. Kiko is now on top of Lin, though the Beifong’s arm still had her trapped in a headlock.
The waterbender makes use of their position, jabbing Lin’s gut once again with her elbow until her grip weakened, and twists out of her hold. Kiko kneels on her abdomen with no real weight, grips the front of Lin’s now slightly dirty tank top and pulls her up slightly. Her arm comes up in a threatening position, “Do you yield?”
Lin hesitates for a moment, their eyes catching, before she huffs, “Yes.”
Kiko smiles, getting off the earthbender and offering a hand to her. Lin takes it, heaving herself off the cobble ground and stands. They shake hands almost jokingly, chuckling to themselves.
“Want to go get some tea? Katara is making some.” Lin offers, a soft smile still on her face.
Kiko nods, “Of course.”
Lin rolls her eyes at the reminder from Kiko, “Yeah, yeah. I was distracted that day, you know that.”
“Excuses, excuses.”
Lin gives her an unimpressed look before they both feel a jostle as they dock, “We can take my Satomobile.”
Kiko nods and follows Lin to her car with a slightly grim expression on her face, “Lead the way.”
---
“So, you’re finally agreeing to join the programme, then?” Toph asks, legs crossed in a domineering way at her metal desk.
Kiko sighs and glances at Lin before agreeing, “Yes, I think it would be for the best.”
Toph nods but stays silent. She heaves out a sigh after what seems like an eternity to the two girls, before she motions to the man on her left, who Kiko assumes is a scribe, to get something from one of the filing cabinets.
He seems to understand what she wants straight away, and immediately starts rummaging through the overfilled metal files. “Take a seat.” The Chief motions to the chair in front of her desk.
Kiko does as she says, noticing that Lin moves to stand behind her seat.
“Are you comfortable with having Officer Beifong here while you do this?” Toph asks, gesturing towards where she knows her daughter is standing.
“Of course.”
The man in the room seems to have found what he needs, and places it in front of Kiko with a pen. The waterbender mutters out a small thanks before looking over the print.
Toph’s voice interrupts her again, “Normally, the Zheng Hai protection programme is reserved for important figures, particularly those who have already been targeted. However, considering your relation with the Avatar and my daughter, we will make an exception.”
“How charming.” Kiko mutters under her breath, catching Lin’s slight snicker from behind her.
It doesn’t take long to fill out all of the necessary fields of the paperwork. By 2 pm they are done.
The man standing next to Toph takes the piece of paper from in front of Kiko and files it away again.
“Thank you.” Kiko expresses her gratitude towards Toph, but also Lin. If it weren’t for her, Kiko probably wouldn’t have joined.
The Chief only nods, but Kiko knows that she appreciated the thanks.
The two women leave the office and walk through the bullpen back into the lobby of the station, before Lin is caught by another officer.
“Thought you weren’t in today, Beifong?” An older man asks her, tone teasing and cocky.
“Had something to do.” She doesn’t look him in the eye, instead focusing on the people working and milling about behind him.
“Oh yeah? This girl of yours get in trouble again?” He smirks almost viciously and Lin tries to ignore him, but he just has to open his mouth again, “She seems to be ‘round here lots recently. You into the naughty ones?” He looks Kiko up and down with a wolfish expression.
The waterbender feels her skin crawl, a slight sense of dread filling her, but doesn’t show her uneasiness.
Lin’s face goes bright red, but not in the cute, flustered way Kiko loves to see, “Shut up, Lieutenant Keta, you have no idea what you’re talking about.” She doesn’t raise her voice, but her tone is warning.
Kiko grips onto Lin’s arm as he opens his mouth again, “What are you gonna do about it, Beifong? Cry to mommy?”
Lin's expression turns to one of anger and she scoffs, but as she’s about to yell at him, Kiko pulls on the arm she had grabbed onto, “Let’s get out of here.” The waterbender’s voice is steady as she walks away.
“That’s it! Get your pretty girlfriend of yours to fight your battles!” He barks after the pair, and Kiko can see Lin’s jaw clench tightly in anger.
They get back into the Satomobile, but neither open their mouths.
That is, before Kiko does, “Does he always harass you like that?”
Lin hesitates for a moment, “Ever since he got promoted a few months ago, he thinks that he can do whatever he wants.” She rolls her eyes.
Kiko wants to ask another question, but she knows she probably already has the answer to it, “Why haven’t you told Toph? Or me?”
Lin sighs, “Because then I’d be playing right into his game; he already thinks that I’m just a spoiled brat who used her position as the Chief’s daughter to get into the academy. If I go to mom, then I’d be exactly who he thinks I am.”
“Lin- no.” Kiko places a hand on her friend’s shoulder and coaxes her to look at her, “This is bullying, and you need to tell your boss, even if she is your mother.” Lin shakes her head again, but Kiko continues, “I can see that his words are hurting you.”
“It’s not that- It's- I just couldn’t stand hearing him talk about you in that way. And the way he looked at you... it- it made my skin crawl.”
Kiko hesitates before wrapping her other arm around the earthbender’s shoulders into a hug. It's a little awkward and uncomfortable because of the fact that they are in a car, but Kiko revels in the feeling of Lin’s hesitant arms circling her back.
“Please, speak to the Chief about this.” Kiko whispers against Lin’s neck. “You’re not weak, or turning into what Keta thinks you are if you do. You know that you’ve worked hard to get here. Why does some idiot’s opinions of you matter?”
“Because... it’s what everyone thinks, oh, she’s just using her mom’s position to get here. I know that it’s not true, but it’s not going to change my colleague’s opinions.”
Kiko shakes her head slightly, her nose bumping against Lin’s neck, “They’re only mad because you’re better at your job than they are.” She chuckles, attempting to lighten the air a little. Lin lets out a small huff of a laugh, “Seriously though... you’re not going to be able to completely change everyone’s views. It's tough knowing that people think these things about you, but you just have to remember that you’ll go further than any of them.” Kiko pulls away from the hug, placing her hands on Lin’s shoulders, “I mean, you’re a Beifong for spirits’ sake!”
Lin smiles a little bashfully, “You’re right.” She shakes her head and looks to the side, “I- this is hard, but I promise I’ll think about it.”
Kiko only nods, her mood rising at seeing the cute expression on her friend’s face, “Now, I want that dinner you were talking about. Take our minds off all of this drama.” She sits back properly in the passenger seat.
“Let’s go.” Lin starts the engine and drives deeper into the city.
---
Hours pass as the two enjoy each other’s companies.
Lin managed to park her Satomobile on the side of the road somewhere, using her badge as an indicator that she was allowed to, even though she wasn’t on patrol. Kiko teased her for using her position to do that a little, if only to see her flustered expression.
Between them, the pair agreed on a little Fire Nation diner. It was quaint and had a cozy, homely feel. There were a few paintings of famous Fire Nation jazz singers on the walls, the reds and blacks of their clothes popping out on the walls. Kiko and Lin even recognised a few.
However, all good things must come to an end.
They walk out of the restaurant, Kiko holding a small bag, in which she carried some left over noodle soup and roasted komodo chicken. They were both a little tipsy, having drank a few glasses of plum wine between them.
Lin heaves a sigh as they stand on the pavement, “I think I’m going to walk home. Probably shouldn’t be driving like this.” She has her hands in the pockets of her jacket. The same jacket Kiko had borrowed all of those months ago.
Kiko nods, “I’m walking to the docks, too.”
“Just- be careful, alright?” Lin’s eyebrows furrow in concern, and Kiko appreciated that she is not telling her to stay at hers. She doesn’t think that she can risk another note being found in Lin’s apartment. They've already done it once, what’s stopping them from breaking in again?
“You too.” Kiko responds, smiling before looking around, “I’d better get home; I don’t want to miss the 11 o’clock ferry.”
Lin nods, “See you later.”
“See you later.”
They part ways, walking in opposite directions.
Kiko feels more than slightly hesitant to be walking alone at night, the hair on the back of her neck excruciatingly aware that someone could be following her right now.
But there is something that she just needs to do.

The Myth of Y/N (Korra x Reader) Part 25
CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD
Korra’s POV
The slam of the door echoes across the dining room followed by an intense silence. No-one says anything for a few seconds.
I turn to Suyin, giving her a sympathy gaze. “I am so sorry for that. That was uncalled for.”
“Apology accepted!” Varrick replies, voice loud and booming. “Now, if you all don’t mind, I’m going to dive right in. I’m famished!”
Ignoring the businessman, I continue staring at Suyin. The anger that was present within her eyes has now diminished.
“Is your friend normally like that?” She eventually asks, voice now calm and controlled.
I shake my head. “No. They aren’t.”
Looking back at the now closed door, I narrow my eyes in deep concentration.
Where did all of that come from? What was Y/N’s problem? Suyin has been nothing but kind to us! What they said about her was just mean! What’s gotten into them?
Ever since we’ve left Air Temple Island, Y/N has been acting…off. Something’s bothering them. I’ve been so busy on finding the airbenders that I’ve neglected my best friend’s feelings. Still, that’s no excuse to treat Suyin like that.
Sighing heavily, I turn back to my food. “I’ll have a word with them later when they’ve cooled off.”
“Make sure you do.” The matriarch replies, also turning her attention back to her food.
I still stare at my food, untouched for the past few minutes.
First Lin. Now Y/N?
Can things get any worse?
Y/N’S POV
I storm through the corridors of the maze-like building, hoping to find a way out of this obnoxious place. My fiery rage from my debate with the matriarch still goes strong. If anything, the anger is amplifying.
Each step I take, the flames within grow. Each step I take, the dragon’s voice at the back at my mind becomes louder and louder and louder.
Suyin is corrupt. Just like the Earth Queen. Just like Tarrlok and most of the Republic City Council were. They are all the same.
No, stop it.
Stop denying. You know it’s true. Suyin puts on a noble façade with a fake smile, but she is just as bad. Maybe even worse.
No! Tarrlok and most of the City Council treated all non-benders like they were Equalists! The Earth Queen rules with an iron fist and treats her people like they’re objects! Suyin doesn’t do that!
Suyin’s methods are different, but her rule is the same tiresome, infuriating theme as theirs. Arrogant, self-absorbed egomaniacs who attempt to make their vision a reality whether the public like it or not. Tarrlok tried to be Republic City’s saviour and ended up as bad as his father, but he never sugar-coated his actions. He accepted them for what they were. The Earth Queen doesn’t hide her true self either. She is what she is and she’s proud of it. But Suyin? Either she’s oblivious and painfully unaware of who she really is or she’s lying to herself. She hides her true self. She phrases her actions as kindness and honourable. That is why she’s worse.
I said stop!
Suyin has the majority wrapped around her little finger.
Her family.
Her city.
Asami.
Bolin.
Mako.
Korra-
STOP!
The intrusive thoughts, the dragon, goes dead silent.
I slow down my steps, the door to the outside in my vision.
Suyin is flawed, hypocritical, and arrogant, but she isn’t as bad as the others. She’s trying to bring a positive force. She leads a beautiful city and has an amazing family. She’s flawed, not evil. Flawed, not evil. Flawed, not evil.
This time, the dragon is dead silent.
Good.
The anger, while still present, has diminished slightly.
I just need some fresh air. Yeah, some fresh air. Maybe I can leave the city and explore one of the nearby mountains. Go and walk around the natural environments. Yeah, that will be nice. Calm. Peaceful and relaxing. When, I’m done I will go to bed. Yeah, that sounds nice.
Taking a deep, long, breath and releasing it in a soothing exhale I open the doors, expecting to see the starry night sky…
Only to see metal surrounding the sky!
WHAT?!
Domes surround the city when its night?!
DAMMIT!
“UGH!” I groan loudly, throwing my arms into the air. “I can’t even look at the stars now?!”
First no secrets at all, then not allowing Opal to leave, then Varrick, and now I can’t even see the night sky?!
I march around the area, not really paying any attention to my surroundings, until I eventually reach to some sort of metal bench. Sitting down with a loud huff, I bury my face into my palms and rub them against my features rapidly.
I thought getting airbending was a dream come true. In my early childhood I longed to have bending. Now I get what my toddler-self wished for and everything goes downhill. First, my parents. Then, the Earth Queen and her corruption. Then this Zaheer and a bunch of criminals. Now this.
What’s worse is none of my friends even seem to care. Not even Korra, my best friend. Sure, we haven’t always seen eye to eye but our differences in our beliefs haven’t always been this stark.
There’s got to be someone who gets what I’m saying, right?
“Excuse me, are you all right?”
I whip my head upwards and see on of the Zaofu guards standing before me. She’s wearing big metal plates covering her form, her helmet with three dagger-like spikes on it covering most of her head. However, I notice her grass pupils and a tiny black mole underneath her right eye.
“Uh, yeah.” I tell her, dropping my hands back onto my knees. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
The expression on the guard’s face doesn’t change in the slightest. “Do you wish to be escorted back to the dining room of the Beifong Household?”
“No!” I rush out, causing the guard to jump back slightly in surprise. I regain my composure and respond in a more controlled manner. “No, I’m fine. That is the last thing I want to go right now.”
This time, I see a flash of curiosity painted across the guard’s face. “Is there a problem?”
I sigh. “To be blunt, I had an argument with your matriarch.”
Her expression, again, changes very little. All I see is a slight frown. “I see.”
Shit, did I make her mad? Oh, who am I kidding? Suyin is the city’s leader! Of course, her guards are going to be mad!
Rising from my bench and dusting off my clothes, I face the guard. “I hope I didn’t intrude or disturb you from your duties. I just wanted to have some fresh air but, much to my disappointment, I was greeted by the metal domes.”
“I understand your frustration.” She sympathises, her tone having no trace of anger or annoyance from my earlier comments. “However, they are a vital addition to the security of Zaofu. It helps keep the public protected.”
“Yes, of course.” I reply. “Suyin called it the safest city in the world. However, I fear she has sacrificed some freedom for maximum security.” Knowing who I am talking to, I raise my hands in an apologetic gesture. “Not to discredit your job and your effectiveness, I’m sure you and the rest of the guards are great, but surely you can understand what I’m saying, right?”
The guard doesn’t respond for a moment, her face neutral. I can almost hear the cogs turning in her head.
“I do.” She finally says. “However, I believe that it is necessary. Without that protection, our freedom can easily be taken away.”
Hm. An interesting perspective.
I nod in understanding. “I get that. Still, I just find it frustrating. Doesn’t help that Varrick is here.”
As soon as the name of the businessman leaves my lips, I notice it. A flicker of irritation in the guard’s pupils.
“The…inventor, right?” she asks, voice gruff.
I hum in confirmation. “After all the shit he’s done, he gets away with it all and ends up living the life here. It’s a misuse of justice. That’s what my argument with Suyin was about. She wouldn’t hear any of it. Even my friends wouldn’t listen. Not a single person agreed with me. It’s frustrating!”
Finishing my rant, I notice the guard staring at me with…curiosity? Familiarity? Something else entirely?
I let out a tense breath, scratching the back of my head. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to rant to you. I’ll leave you back to your duties.”
“I agree.”
Huh?
I whip back to the guard. Her face is once again neutral.
“I’m sorry?”
“I agree with you.”
“Oh…”
I open my mouth but close it again having failed to find my words. After a quick swallow, I speak up once more with confusion. “I…I was under the impression you would have sided with your matriarch.”
Then, much to my surprise, a pretty smirk forms on her lips. “I may be Suyin’s guard, but I don’t believe in everything she does. I am a person, after all.”
Oh…well, that’s true.
Chuckling with a sheepish smile, I cross my arms together. “I guess so. And who is the person I am talking to?
Her smirk widens slightly, and she stretches out her hand.
“Kuvira.”
I take her hand.
“Y/N.”
“I know. Suyin had me do a background check on you and your friends.”
“Oh…yeah. Forgot about that.”
She chuckles. It’s nice.
When the handshake ends, I gaze back at the buildings at the edge of the dome.
“I should probably head to bed.” I tell her. I gaze back Kuvira and give her a small smile. “It was nice meeting you. It’s refreshing to find a like-minded individual.”
Kuvira smiles in return. “The feeling is mutual. Perhaps, we could meet again the following day?”
My eyebrows perk up in surprise. She wants to hang out? Well, it will be better than dealing with awkwardness with me and the others whilst meeting a new friend. Plus, maybe I can get to learn more about Zaofu.
“Sure!” I tell her. “Where and when?”
“Here at nine?”
“An early bird, huh?”
“That is required when you have a job like mine.”
“Indeed. See you at nine, Kuvira.”
“And I you, Y/N.”
We exchange goodbyes and, just like that, we head our separate ways. Kuvira is probably going back on her patrol whilst I walk to my guest room.
At least one good thing came out of tonight.
That good mood didn’t last long, though. Soon after I return to my room, I am interrupted with some pounding knocks.
“Y/N, we need to talk.”
Shit. It’s Korra.
Sighing heavily, I slowly but surely walk up to the door and open it and in front of me I see a very pissed Korra.
“That was out of order, Y/N. What in the spirits were you thinking?!”
Frowning slightly, I cross my arms. “What I was thinking was giving Suyin some rightfully deserved criticism. It’s about time someone gave her the harsh reality.”
My response only seems to anger Korra who places a hand on her hips. “What you did was humiliate her in front of her family. She was trying to do something good, and you threw it in her face.”
Something good? Seriously?!
“You’re telling me after everything Varrick has done you are okay with him escaping punishment?” I ask her. “You were there when he bombed the Southern Water Tribe Cultural Center. So many people could have been hurt!”
The features of my best friend’s face softens slightly. “I was confused initially and I see where you’re coming from. But Suyin is trying to better Varrick and Zaofu by-“
“-Don’t give me that!” I interrupt, throwing my arms up in the air. “She’s doing it for herself.”
The softness on Korra’s face hardens once more. “Varrick is leading her technology division that can benefit the city and its people.”
“Which will benefit Suyin and her reputation.” I counter smoothly. “I see through her act.”
“You think too lowly of her.”
“And you think too highly of her.”
We both go dead silent for an intense moment. The air is thick and suffocating.
I let out a deep and heavy breathe, rubbing my hair with my palm. “I don’t want to end our night in a fight.”
Korra’s face softens once more and her gaze casts downward. “Me neither. Things are already awkward with Lin and Suyin. I don’t want things to be awkward between us too.”
Pinching the bridge of my nose, I let out yet another sigh. “Look, I won’t apologise to Suyin. I think she deserved it. However, I’ll try to tolerate her while we’re still in Zaofu. For you.”
Looking back up, I see Korra nod slowly and a tiny smile form on her lips. “Okay. Thank you.”
I smile back. “Don’t mention it. Have a good night, Korra.”
“You too, Y/N.”
Closing the door, I lean backwards on the door with the back of my head pressed against it, revealed that the moment is over. I can still feel the bittersweetness of the departure.
Let’s hope tomorrow is better.
TIME SKIP
I stand in the same place as the night before, five minutes before nine. I make sure to got up early to avoid any awkward meetings. I haven’t spoken to the others else since Korra and I don’t particularly want to join them at breakfast. Despite telling her that I’ll try to tolerate Suyin, I still fear that she will somehow get a reaction out of me. It’s best I stay out of the matriarch’s way for now.
“Impeccable timing.”
I turn to the source of the voice, and I pause.
There, in front of me, is Kuvira standing tall and proud. Now absent of her heavy armour representing the Zaofu Guard and replaced with the known green robes that typical citizens wear. No longer wearing her helmet, I can see her jet-black hair tied up into a ponytail. She’s stunning.
Feeling my cheeks warm slightly, I cough awkwardly. “Of course.”
Kuvira doesn’t react to the scene playing out before her. She tilts her head in a questioning way. “Have you had breakfast?”
I open my mouth to answer her question but instead of words, the answer is the growling of my stomach. Shit.
Kuvira smirks. “I guess not.”
With a sheepish grin, I rub the back of my neck. “Yeah, I decided to skip breakfast with the others. I didn’t want to risk causing another argument.”
Listening to my explanation, the smirk fades from her lips. Then, the guard turns and starts walking. “Come. I know a place we can eat.”
Huh?
Rushing forward to catch up, I walk side-by-side with her. “We?”
“I haven’t had the chance to eat either.” Kuvira explains. “I know a good place that serves good food. Besides, this will be an opportunity for you to see more of Zaofu.”
Oh…
That’s…sweet.
As she leads me to the train that leads us to another section of the city, I have more look at the intrinsic building. They scream of a utopia with signs of a bright new era on the horizon.
“I’m really impressed with the architecture.” I comment, turning my gaze to Kuvira. To my surprise, she is already focusing her attention at me with a curious glint in her cool eyes. “It’s so much better than what I saw in Ba Sing Se. Not a single inch of poverty and dilapidation.”
She smiles. “Indeed. Thanks to Bataar, the architect, Zaofu is the most advanced city in the entire Earth Kingdom.”
The mention of the architect brings a flash of memory in my mind with the image of a middle-aged man and his younger accomplice passing by the dining room, with the former apologising to his wife and telling her he had a major breakthrough in the tram system.
Despite my issues with Suyin, I cannot deny that her husband is a genius. This architecture and technology should be shared with the rest of the kingdom!
“Well, he should be proud of what he has accomplished.” I finally respond. “All of this is revolutionary! Why hasn’t this been shared with the rest of the nation?”
My question appeared to trouble Kuvira slightly as I see her rip her gaze from me to stare through the tram’s window with a frown present.
Uh oh. Did I make her upset?
“Unfortunately,” Kuvira begins with a trace of bitterness. “the sharing of Zaofu’s resources wouldn’t be possible.”
The phrase of her answer makes me perk an eyebrow and lean forward slightly.
“How come?”
The frown deepens on Kuvira’s face. “The Earth Queen would never allow it. She despises changes or, at least, changes she didn’t implement. She certainly wouldn’t allow a rival of hers to improve her kingdom.”
Of course. Why am I not surprised?
A frustrated groan erupts from me, and I slump down to the tram’s seat. “Typical. The Earth Queen has a chance to improve the lives of her people and refuses it because it would hurt her pride and ego. I met her when we visited Ba Sing Se and what I saw was despicable. Her people were suffering and she herself was vile.”
I hear a hum of agreement from my companion.
Sighing heavily, I glance away. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to rant. It’s just been troubling me for a while.”
“There’s no need to apologise.” Kuvira assures me, finally looking back at me. “I had nothing to add. I agree with you completely. The Queen is a horrible woman who should never have been in charge of the Earth Kingdom.”
“Exactly!” I exclaim, relieved with being understood. “I told Korra and Tenzin the same thing! You know what they said? They said there was nothing we could do other than advise! How is that right?”
All I get from Kuvira are two words.
“It isn’t.”
Before I can respond, the tram reaches its to a screeching halt. We have arrived.
Leaving the transport, the guard leads me through the city for around twenty minutes or so until finally we reach a small establishment. It has a square-like shape with the windows revealing the green interior of the building. I notice a counter with all types of food displayed with a male cashier behind it.
I glance up to see the sign on top of the store. “Badger’s Borrow.”
“Is this a café?” I ask her.
“It is.” Kuvira confirms. “I sometimes come here when I’m not on duty or busy with my dancing. It is welcoming and peaceful.”
Humming in acknowledgement, I gesture to the store door. “Well then, shall we?”
My gesture brings a smirk out of her. “We shall.”
The following minutes were nothing special. All it consisted was us waiting in line and ordering food to eat. Kuvira paid for both of us before I could even tell her I had no cash. She must have know beforehand. Clever.
Now, we sat on a table by the window eating our food. The time it took for us to explore Zaofu, travelling on the tram, and walking to the store was long enough for sunlight to shine down on the city.
“The food is pretty good here.” I tell her, taking bites of the item I ordered. “I can see why you come here.”
“Indeed.” She agrees with a smile. “It’s relaxing.”
The softness in her voice as she compliments the burrow opens a door of revelation for me. When I first saw her, I thought she was all serious, tough, and no-funny business. Now, though, I realise there’s more to her than meets the eye. Heh, in a way, she is a lot like Korra.
Korra…
The image of Korra’s rage at my outburst to Suyin flashes to the forefront of my mind brings my mood down. Despite making up at the end of the night, arguing with my best friend always saddens me greatly.
Kuvira seems to have noticed the change in my mood. “You seem troubled.”
I shake my head. “It’s nothing.”
Glancing upwards, I see curiosity and concern in her gaze. This time, however, I’m going to do ask the questions.
“Can I ask you something?”
Her eyes widen in surprise of the sudden topic change but relents. “You may.”
I lean forward to further engage in the situation. “You barely know me and yet you’re showing me around the city and taking me to a coffee shop you go to. Why?”
The guard’s eyes widen slightly in surprise of my bluntness but proceed to narrow in thought. She doesn’t respond for a while, as if she doesn’t know the answer herself, and I take a drink to act as a distraction to fill in the silence.
“You intrigued me.” Kuvira at lasts respond, though brief as it is.
Oh?
“Intrigued you?” I repeat.
She nods. “Your frustrations with Suyin, specifically.”
I frown. “You said you agreed with me when I talked about Varrick.”
“And I still do.” Kuvria confirms. “Even more so after given it some thought. When Suyin announced Varrick’s contribution to Zaofu despite his history I was troubled.”
Interesting.
I take another sip from my cup, my eyes still locked with Kuvira’s, and place it back down. “Did you say anything to her?”
She shakes her head slightly. “I did not. It is not my place. I’m the Captain of the Guard, not an adviser.”
“Captain of the Guard?” I repeat with surprise. “Adviser or not, that’s a pretty impressive rank to hold. You must be proud.”
She nods with pride. “I am. It is an honour to be given such a title.”
“Suyin must trust you pretty well.”
“I am her protégé.” Kuvira reveals to me, taking a sip of her own drink after the comment. “She mentored me since I was a child.”
“Interesting.” I comment. “Your parents must be proud.”
As soon as that sentence leaves my lips, I know I made a mistake. Kuvira frowns sharply and gazes down at her cup. Her eyes have hint of bitterness and…shame.
“I’m sorry!” I speak up almost immediately after my previous comment. “I didn’t mean to bring up any bad memories.”
“It’s fine.” The captain assures me sharply, though her tone betrays her. It’s clear she’s feeling uncomfortable now.
Despite the awkward silence that followed, I don’t feel any of it. Instead, a great wave of sympathy washes over me and also…familiarity.
An idea comes to me.
Should I do this? I mean, she’s a stranger. I haven’t even told Korra and Mako yet! Or even Tenzin, Kyuni and the others!
A stranger who seems to be like-mind as I. One who seems to be familiar with family troubles. Maybe this might make her feel slightly better.
“If it makes you feel any better…” I begin, trailing off slightly but then catch myself. “I have my own issues with my parents.”
At the mention of my situation, Kuvira immediately snaps her attention to me with her eyes widened. “You do?”
I nod solemnly. “I was gifted airbending too like Opal. I was so excited. I was always so interested in the Air Nation’s culture and to have the chance to be a part of it was…amazing. I remember feeling the rush as I went to call my parents. I told them and do you know what they said?”
Before Kuvira can even have the chance to respond, I chuckle sadly. “My father accused me of abandoning my tribe! Then, he tells me if that if I join the Air Nation I will not be considered as their own! Can you believe that? After years of loving memories, they were willing to abandon me!”
A single tear rolls down my left cheek and I quickly swipe it away.
“Sorry.” I tell her, gazing at my cup. “Didn’t meant to dump all that emotional shit onto your plate.”
Then, to my surprise, I feel a hand land on top of mine with a slight squeeze.
I look back up and I see Kuvira avoiding my gaze and instead focus it on our hands.
“I won’t sugar coat it by telling you everything will be fine.” The captain tells me, her voice hoarse. “It won’t be fine. It will never be. All I can tell you is following your own path. Don’t let your idiotic parents stop you from fulfilling your passions.”
My heart stops from Kuvira’s speech. When it concludes, it resumes.
Her advice is similar to Asami’s and yet…Kuvira’s seems the most…helpful? I don’t know how to explain it. Maybe it was her bluntness of it all. Maybe it was because she seems so familiar.
When she called my parents idiotic a brief spark of anger threatened to erupt but it quickly faded. After I gave it, some thought, she was right. I mean, after everything we’ve been together my parents are willing to cast me aside for wanting their child to follow their dreams and do some good in the world? What kind of parents do you have to be to do that?
“My parents abandoned me when I was a child.” Kuvira speaks up, her stature tense. “They dropped me with Suyin with a mere sack of my stuff and left me. Father told me it was for my own good but, really, it was to make their own lives easier. They abandoned their own daughter. They abandoned me.”
The sympathy that I already had for her intensifies in power and I place my own hand on top of her, now squeezing her hand gently.
Kuvira was abandoned as a child, but she overcame it. She was cast aside by the people she trusted the most and yet she rose to such a high position: The Captain of the Guard of Zaofu. It’s inspiring.
It has inspired me.
If Kuvira can overcome her past with her parents, then so can I. I can surpass this. I know I can.
“Your parents are fools.” I assure her. “From what I’ve seen, you’re so much better than them. Screw them.”
My own comfort brings a smile on Kuvira’s lips.
A smile forms on mine.
Then, in a tiny coffee shop with a stranger I barely know and yet feels so familiar, everything becomes clear. Everything.
“You were born in the Southern Water Tribe, you grew up in the Southern Water Tribe, and had practiced Southern Water Tribe traditions. And now you are abandoning your culture for another!"
“You are trying to abandon your tribe, and your mother and I will not tolerate such a betrayal.”
“The next time we talk, you better tell us you are not joining the Air Nation. If not, don’t contact or visit us ever again.”
The echoes of the past, once plagued my mind, are now only harmless afterthoughts.
I have made my decision.
I will join the Air Nation.

Hope you all enjoyed it!
Feedback is appreciated! :D
See you all in the next chapter!

Could I request being Kuvira’s sibling and dating Korra (The Legend of Korra) hcs please?
Korra Dating Kuvira's Sibling Headcanon's
Tumblr media
A/N: I hope this isn't too lacking in detail haha 😅
Pairing(s): Korra X GN!Reader
Characters: Korra Reader, Kuvira
⚠️ Warnings!: Spoilers for LOK
______________________________________________________________
✨You met Korra first in Zaofu, where you and Kuvira were both taken in by Suyin Beifong.
✨Instead of working as a member of the Metal Clans guard, you ended up being personal assistant to Suyin
✨You don't posses the ability to bend metal, thus making it hard for you to integrate fully into the metal bending clan. This has also generated a slight rift between you and your sister, who is a master metal-bender.
✨Korra and you took an immediate liking to each other, and bonded over your mutual enjoyment of pro-bending.
✨You are pretty starstruck by her being a member of the Fire Ferrets formerly. She feels a little shy about it as she initially thought you were pretty physically attractive.
✨However, as you two start to open up to each other more, and she expresses her anxieties about Zaheer, you really start to bond.
✨She invites you to accompany her and Opal to the Air Temple, however, you still want to fulfil your obligations to Suyin in the Metal Clan.
✨The next time you and Korra meet, it's when you go with Suyin and Kuvira (at your insistence) to help when she confronts Zaheer.
✨After Korra's traumatic final battle, you visit her when she is recovering. You notice that she isn't the same woman you knew, but can't place what the issue is.
✨When Kuvira starts to slowly get her claws into the Earth Kingdom, taking over land she shouldn't. You begin to doubt her motives and leave one night when things get to intense for you.
✨While making your escape from your sister and going into hiding briefly as you make your way to Republic City, you run into Korra.
✨She is at her lowest and at first tries to avoid you. However, you convince her to let you travel with her.
✨You only start to get close romantically after her confrontation with Zaheer where she learns to let go. This allows her to also start to move forward with your relationship.
✨You aren't officially dating, but only start making it official near the end of the events of book three.

“ Just give me true love and understanding for the rest of my days.
Tumblr media
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “The Kyoshi warriors are there to help out people who need it.” the female's voice sounded distance. “Your gran–gran Suki was the best warrior out there and I'm sure you will be a great leader to the new generation of warriors just like her.”
You hands played with your set of fans while sighing. Even after so many years, you still had your mother's comment rounding your mind every now and then.
She was the daughter of Sokka and Suki, born a waterbender, she was never forced to follow her mother's path nor her father's career, but after Suki's passing she decided to keep her legacy alive as much as she could before her own descendants could. Your mother always wanted to have children, but had the bad luck to have a hard time conceiving, so she decided that it would be best to adopt. She would have the child she always wanted and would give one a family.
She had always said how it was an instant connection when you two first met. Seeing a little you coloring on a book with such concentration and determination made her heart warm and after that it was history.
You didn’t know by that time that you were an earthbender, but your green eyes had told on you to be from the Earth Kingdom, your mother said how –even if you weren't blood family– she could see Suki on you, it was almost like she came back to live. And so you were taught the Kyoshi warriors culture, she made sure to let you know how if you didn’t want to follow with it that would be okay, but you always said how you will continue the legacy. That was what you've been doing all this years.
You've been living in the Kyoshi island since reaching your teenage years and only after your training with them finished and finally named a warrior you were able to come and go from the island as you wish. In one of those trips, you met Wing.
The Kyoshi warriors were split and sent to recognition of the most important points of the Earth Kingdom first and your group was sent to Zaofu. When you arrived the matriarch received all of you with open arms and such a sweet aura that made you feel welcomed, Suyin said how excited she was to finally meet the Kyoshi warriors after hearing stories about them when she was younger and showed everyone around.
At your arrival to what it seemed to be a training area with big metal pieces, you could spot two boys, twins to be specific. While you were looking around that area and Suyin was explaining what it was, green eyes were set on you with a special brightness in them; Wing felt as if he was just struck by an arrow when he saw you giggle at a joke made by his mother.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “Think fast!” Wei screamed throwing the disk at him, he was too distracted and got hit with the object at the side of his face. With a loud groan he felt sat on the floor. “My spirits, you are an idiot.”
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “Boys!” the older woman exclaimed terrorize by the sudden accident.
Everyone was quick to get closer to them, you had tell that you'd check on the hurt twin since you knew about first-aid. “Hey, are you okay? Can you hear me well?” you asked after crouching in front of him.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “I think the disk made him stupid.” the other twin said laughing when Wing took too long to answer clearly distracted by you, his mother hit him in the shoulder.
At first he was mumbling a little bit at your sight that made you frown. “Pretty... I mean! Yeah, I can hear you!” Wei exploded in laughter and you could feel your face warmer.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “That's great,” you made sure he was seeing well by asking him to tell you the amount of fingers you were holding. “Can you tell me what your full name is?” your hands touched the skin in his face looking for any wound open.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “Wing... Wing Beifong.” he answered feeling tickles in each spot your fingers were touching. “What's yours?” you smiled and presented yourself, he made sure to burn your name in his brain.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “What day are we in, Wing?” he answered with the date, feeling his heart skip a beat at how his name sounded on your voice. “Okay, I'm sure you're fine, just don't take any naps right now for precaution.”
Suyin sighed and took her other twin's ear. “You and I will talk about your way of playing.” you looked at the exchange with a smile and when you turned back to Wing, he was still staring at you with such curiosity.
And after that interaction, Wing was obsessed. He loved the way your touch felt on his skin, how sweet his name sounded on your voice, how your green eyes had this cute brightness on them that made them shine like they were a pair of the most beautiful emeralds, how your Kyoshi make-up looked so good on you and made your eyes the center of attention.
Wing looked for you in any chance he had, always bringing you gifts, taking you on small walks on the city, asking you on spontaneous dates which you gladly accepted to ever single one of them and after some time on the city, the warriors needed to visit a different one so Wing took the opportunity to ask you out formally a day before leaving.
A couple of years had gone by since that, sometimes you would visit the family on Zaofu or he would meet you at Republic City, the relationship was just great.
When the whole Kuvira situation took flight, you made sure to be by your boyfriend's side as much as you were allowed too and when it ended, you had an idea.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “You want us to visit the Kyoshi island?” he asked carefully, making you nod with a little of slowness.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “I thought... Uhm, since this whole thing took a toll on everyone that... Maybe you can come to the island and have tiny vacations... Just if you want! I'm not pressuring you to anything! If you don't want that's okay.” you talked a little too fast for his liking, but he smiled with such calm before cupping your face in his palms.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “We would love to, my love.” he answered giving you a tiny peck on the lips.
Another thing he loved from you was your personality. Even if when you were fighting people you looked intimidating, at any calm interaction with new people, you would almost make yourself smaller. He knew after your third date how you didn’t like being in such places with large groups of people and he made sure to take you to places were you felt comfortable. When he introduced you to his family formally, he answered every single question for you and the way how he always was thinking of you and your well-being made you fell more in love with him... If that was even possible.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “We are!?” an excited Opal asked at the dinner table, a big smile on her face.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “I asked for permission and was granted,” you nodded. “It's a little vacation trip I want you to have to relax and also as a thank you for teaching me how to metalbend.” your voice got lower at the last part, a little bit withdrawn, your face started to feel warm.
Your boyfriend took your hand in his, smiling. “Nonsense, darling, you were already a natural when you came here!” Suyin exclaimed. “We just helped you activate your potential.”
Plans were made and not even a week later, the whole Beifong family was at the entrance of the Kyoshi island, looking around amazed by it. Even after all those years, the island was restricted to just the people on the village and the warriors, so almost no one in the modern age knew how it looked.
You had asked one of your teammates to do the tour for you and after that, a small welcome dinner was held.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “Uh, sorry–.” you tried to speak to get their attention, Wing made a gesture that he would handle it.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “Family!” he exclaimed loud enough for them to stop talking, once in silence, he smiled. “Thank you, you can go now.” the last part he said your way.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “Hi, sorry, I would like to thank you all for accepting my invitation here.” your fingers were drumming slightly on your side after standing up. “It really means a lot to me to have all of you here, I appreciate you for taking me in as one of your own and... I hope you enjoy the island.” a nervous smile took place on your face.
After that the whole family burst in cheerings clapping at you and smiling with such fond aura. Wing got closer to you after sitting down. “That was sweet, honey, I love you.” he said, a soft kiss was exchanged between you two.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “Ugh, that's disgusting! We're eating!” Wei exclaimed in a jokingly way, throwing pieces of bread at his brother.

No More (angst)
Young Suyin Beifong x fem reader
(Thank you to my lovely 🌸anon for requesting some angst!)
You and Su had been together for a while and you loved it but what you didn’t love is how reckless she’s becoming. You get she likes to steal with her friends and sometimes she brings you nice jewelry from those steals. You didn’t mind her being a criminal because at first it wasn’t that bad but now things just keep getting turned up. It was worrying you but she always told you not to worry. If she got in trouble she’d only be arrested for a few hours till her mom let her out.
There was a knock at your door. You answered it to find your girlfriend Su. “I brought you something.” Su said then held out a pearl necklace. “Oh Su it’s beautiful.” You gushed. “A beautiful necklace for a beautiful girl.” Su said. You let her in then she kissed you. You wrapped your arms around her and smiled. “I love you Su.” You said. Su kissed your forehead. She never really said I love you back but you knew she did. “Let me put the necklace on you.” Su said. You nodded and turned around.
You lifted up your hair then Su put the necklace around you. Once it was on you looked into the mirror. “Wow.” You said. “It’s perfect for you.” Su said. “Breaking news! Local jewelry store has been robbed! Be on the lookout for criminals.” A voice from the radio said. You looked at Su who was laughing. “That place was robbed thirty minutes ago jeez their slow.” Su laughed. You took the necklace off then held it out to her. “What? Do you not like it anymore?” Su asked.
“I don’t want stolen jewelry anymore Su.” You said. “Oh babe come on it’s not that serious.” Su said. “It’s serious to me.” You said. There was a knock at your door and Su stashed the necklace under your sofa cushions. You answered the door and there were Su’s robbing buddies. You rolled your eyes. They never liked you and you never liked them so at least the feelings were mutual. “Oh your little friends are here.” You said dryly. Su walked over to you. “I’ll be down in a second guys.” Su said.
Her friends left then she stepped out the door. “I’ll see you later.” Su said. “Whatever.” You said. “Babe come on don’t be like that.” Su said. You just shrugged. Su kissed your cheek. “I’ll call you.” Su said. “Better not be from a jail cell again Suyin.” You said. “No promises.” Su said with a grin then left. You love Su but she stresses you out. You locked the door behind her then sat on the couch. You reached under the couch cushion and pulled out the pearl necklace.
“Oh Suyin what am I going to do with you?” You asked out loud. You held the necklace in your hands and tried to figure out what to do. You love Suyin you do you just hate she’s a thief. You love the jewelry but you shouldn’t it’s wrong. She shouldn’t be doing this. You tried not to cry. You couldn’t keep being a girlfriend to a thief and she seems that she wasn’t stopping anytime soon. There’s nothing you haven’t said to try to get her to stop. You’ve cried and begged and pleaded but she didn’t care.
Her not caring hurt but she would try to make up for all your tears with jewelry but this jewelry means nothing! She’s not actually apologizing her stopping she just shuts you up with shinny things! Like you’re some toddler and you let her! How could you let her? You started to cry. This relationship can’t keep going on.
The next day Su came over and she looked frantic a bit. “Su are you ok?” You asked. “I think I’m screwed.” Su said. “What do you mean?” You asked. “Lin caught up with me and she tried to arrest me. She wrapped her cable around my wrist and I got angry and I cut it then” Su went silent. “Then what Su?” You asked. “When I cut it…it cut her cheek.” Su said. “The cable cut her cheek!” You shouted. “Don’t yell!” Su shouted back. “How bad is it?” You asked. “It’s really bad. She was bleeding.” Su said. “Su.” You said.
“She shouldn’t have tried to stop me.” Su said. “Su she was doing her job!” You shouted. “Are you on her side or mine?” Su asked. “Su are you serious right now?” You asked. “Yes I am! Are you on her side or mine!” Su shouted. “Su you hurt your sister! You made her bleed and have probably given her permanent damage!” You yelled. Su glared at you. “I can’t believe this Su. I’ve been begging you to stop before things get too crazy and look what has happened.” You said.
“Shut up!” Su shouted. “I begged and begged and you just didn’t care. Now look what you’ve done Su.” You said. “All you do is cry and cry! You’re such a cry baby! Shut up and don’t act like you’re any better than me! You take the jewelry that I give you.” Su said. “I do take the jewelry and it’s wrong. I also never said I was any better than you. I’m not any better what we do is wrong Su.” You said and you felt tears pooling in your eyes. “Here you go crying.” Su said and rolled her eyes.
There was a knock at the door and Su went to go open it. It was her mother Toph who didn’t say a word but Suyin knew she had to leave. She left without saying goodbye. Too much has happened. You can’t do this anymore.
The next day you went to visit Lin in the hospital you knew she was probably still getting her cut checked out. When you found her room she was sitting in her uniform and you could tell she was upset. “Lin.” You said softly. She looked up at you. “You’re Su’s girlfriend aren’t you?” She asked. You nodded. “What do you want?” Lin snapped. You handed her your bag. She raised a brow but took it and opened it. It was full of some of the jewelry Su had stolen.
“Where did you get all of this?” Lin asked. “Su. I think it’s time I give them back.” You said. “You knew she stole these and kept them?” Lin asked. You nodded. “I could arrest you.” Lin said. “I know but I’m hoping you won’t.” You said. Lin sighed. “I know you don’t care but I am sorry for keeping the jewelry she would give me and I’m so sorry about what happened to you.” You said. Lin didn’t say anything. “If you see Su could you please tell her to stop by my apartment later.” You said. Lin just nodded.
When you went home you sat down and wrote a letter for Su. After you wrote your letter you packed your bags then left for the fire nation. No more Su. No more taking stolen jewelry. No more being with someone who can’t say I love you. No more being with someone who calls you a cry baby. No more mistreatment.
Su did come by and found your letter and to say she was heartbroken was an understatement she was being sent away and her girlfriend broke up with her. She kept that letter for years to come.

Orphaning My Old Work???
Howdy everyone!
I'll keep this short, but I just wanted to hop on and let you all know that today I orphaned some of my old works on Ao3. I've been wanting to do so for over a year now and finally bit the bullet. Yes, this includes my most popular fic "Legend of Korra X Reader Oneshots" (for anyone whose request I didn't get to, I apologize. I bit off way way more than I could chew with that and have over thirty requests and a dozen half finished fics).
Why?
Well, when I started writing fanfiction for Ao3 I was 17/18 years old. I started publishing said fanfiction at 18/19/20 (19? I think?) and I am now in my mid-twenties so...I've changed. Lol. I've grown up.
When I first started writing I was immature and unexperienced with the world. I wrote for characters I never had attraction to myself (Ex. Adult! Toph, Suyin, Korra, Asami) because people asked me to, I saw those characters got hits, and I wanted to be liked online. It was hard because I didn't see them as romantic interests and I feel the writing suffered for that. Even 'I Bought A War Criminal' (another popular fic I wrote) I fell out of love with Kuvira while writing and it had a rushed ending due to that fact.
The X readers in particular had some smut chapters that explored kinks I don't have and truthfully had never even heard of until reading some other fanfictions. I won't get too personal, but, like many of us on here, I was exposed to way too much shit way too soon in my life so I found new edgy smut topics to keep me engaged. I've since dealt with some of that trauma and also experienced more IRL trauma around relationships and sexuality that make me read some stuff I wrote -- and stuff I READ while underage -- (ex. knife play, non-con, etc) and go woah hey who let me have Wattpad at 12 and what kind of effect did that shit have because--??? (I would like to say that being into certain kinks is not bad and I'm not trying to kink shame but to me I was desensitized due to exposure too young to NSFW material and due to some IRL trauma -- reading and writing that was my way to cope without actually working through any issues. An unhealthy way to cope. I didn't know healthy relationships because everyone in my life up to that point had abused me or hurt me in some way or another either intentionally or unintentionally so I figured Ao3 / Wattpad / Fanfic.net smut wasn't 'that bad'. Now, I deal with my trauma in healthier ways and realize it's just not what I'm into. A lot of it I wasn't even into when I wrote it. But I read it, so I wrote it. Even recently with Outlander I wrote wildshape smut not because I was into it but because all the other Jaheira fics had it and I figured hey it will get views. Because yes, smut gets views).
I'm just not proud of the writing quality. The first chapter of that X Reader Oneshots collection switches tenses like a million times. Who let me do that? Lol. I have a published book IRL that I'm taking down too because omg don't let 17 year olds self-publish XD
The point is, I never really wrote much of that stuff for me. I wrote it to get views. To get comments. To explore things I thought I was suppose to explore. Because no one in my real life was telling me I was good or capable. I wanted reassurance that I was writing the 'edgiest' stuff or the 'fluffiest' or the 'right characters' and the 'right stories'.
Going forward, I want to write for me. It's why I've moved fandoms because yes, I love Legend of Korra and Lin Beifong, but I'm not obsessed with it like I was. I found community in LOK and in AO3 and online in general but, after getting offline -- deleting social media -- reading things other than fanfiction -- basically, as I became less chronically online for the first time since Middle School, I realized that there's so much more out there that I enjoy. And much healthier ways to enjoy it.
I love all of the support you guys have given me and I stand by the amazing love and community I've gotten from all of my commenters and kudos-ers. But those fics just don't represent me anymore. Few of them ever represented me at all. Many were just what I thought would 'sell'.
I want to keep writing, so I will. But for the stories and characters I want to write about in ways that I actually enjoy. I want cute romances and metaphores for life. Writing smut feels like a chore most of the time so I'll probably just fade to black most of the time with a chapter or two exception. I still love fanficton -- it's an artform all its own. But yeah. Anyways, I hope my little ramble here makes sense and I hope you all get what I'm trying to say.
And if you are like past me -- having interacted with the internet and NSFW and smut since a young age and now feeling like every boundary isn't enough in fiction (*clears throat* I see you BookTok wth r those abusive ass relationships you're reading?) just know that maybe that kind of content isn't good for you and know that vanilla isn't lame. Know that you can write the stories and characters you want and that you don't have to write characters you don't want to write or situations that scare you. And you don't have to pretend not to be scared just for the sake of not kink-shaming.
Yeah. Anyway, if ya'll have any questions fell free to reach out to me! I hope you continue to like my work and if you don't, that's fine too. I hope you don't feel like I'm abandoning you. I think I'm just growing up and getting better mentally. <3

Icy Waters Vol. I
Chapter Five
Lin's eyes flutter open languidly, the haze of the early morning streaming in through her slightly open curtains, ones she had forgotten to close the previous night. I must’ve been more drunk than I thought.
She snuggles into the warmth of the duvet, tightening her arms around what she was holding.
Wait...
The earthbender’s head snaps up.
She spots brunette hair sprawled over her pillow, her face growing bright red at the fact that she was embracing the waterbender that has been on her mind a little more than usual.
However, before she can do anything to change their position, a knock sounds from the door. Lin figures that Kya will still be passed out, so she makes the decision to carefully extract herself from spooning the taller woman. How embarrassing... she thinks, it was probably me who latched onto her like that.
While she was happy to have left the bedroom without the waterbender stirring, she can’t help but think, deep down, that she wished she could’ve stayed in the embrace a little longer.
Another knock comes from the front door of her apartment, just as she shuts the bedroom door. Walking through the hallway, she notices Kya still passed out on her couch.
She shakes her head, muttering under her breath, but still making a mental note to leave a glass of water and painkillers next to her for when she wakes up.
Lin opens the door just as a third knock sounds, her little sister standing in the doorway. Moms just dumped her here. Of course.
“Took you long enough.” Suyin huffs, pushing past her older sister.
“Good morning to you, too, Suyin.” Lin follows after her little sister into the living room. She points towards the sleeping woman on the couch.
“Is Kya dead?”
Lin rolls her eyes, a little hungover and too tired to be dealing with Su’s attitude, “No, Su. She’s just sleeping.”
Her the younger girl sits in the armchair and looks at her older sister, “I’m tired. Can I go and sleep in your room?”
Lin is about to give the automatic response of ‘yes’, but then remembers who is currently sleeping in her bed, “Just give me a minute.” She tries to plaster on her most neutral face, but as soon as she turns away from Su to walk back to the bedroom, her cheeks turn pink once again.
She opens the door quietly, noticing that Kiko is still asleep and walks to her side of the bed. Since Lin leaving, she has managed to sprawl herself across the bed completely. How cute...
It takes a while of Lin mustering up the courage to wake Kiko up, as well as increasingly firm pushes to the shoulder for the waterbender to wake up. Her eyes open groggily, and she almost succumbs to the need for more sleep, before she realises where she is.
“My sister is here,” Lin’s voice is soft and quiet, “She wants to sleep in here. You’re more than welcome to sleep more on the couch.”
Kiko sits up on the bed, smiling at Lin, “I should probably get back to the Island. Katara is teaching me how to heal next week and I might get an early lesson in.”
Lin nods as Kiko gets up, stretching her arms above her head. The earthbender averts her eyes in embarrassment at staring at the waterbender, but she relaxes when she disappears into the bathroom with her clothes from last night.
She waits for Kiko to come out of the bathroom and they both walk to the living room, where Su is half falling asleep on the armchair. I mean, it is early. Mom always leaves for work around 6 am.
However, the younger Beifong daughter’s head snaps up at the sight of Kiko, “What are you doing here?”
Kiko chuckles at the younger girl, “It was too late for a ferry last night, so I just stayed here.” She turns her head to Lin, as if to make sure what she is saying is okay.
Suyin hums, “Did you sleep with Lin then?” Lin crosses her arms as her ears turn red, damn her intuity.
“I slept on the floor, Suyin.” Lin is suddenly grateful that she has wooden floors and for the fact that Su hasn’t fully grasped seismic sense yet.
Suyin narrows her eyes sceptically at her sister before sighing, “I’m going to sleep.” She stands and walks into the bedroom.
Kiko and Lin stand in slightly awkward silence for a few moments before Kiko breaks it, “I never got to properly speak with her, but it seems that she is a character.” She chuckles, looking towards Lin’s now closed bedroom door.
“I suppose you could say that.” Lin muses, also looking in the same direction.
Kiko sits in the armchair where Suyin was previously sitting, letting out a sigh as she looks at a still passed out Kya, “I guess I have to wait for her to wake up.”
Lin is standing by her side, “You’re more than welcome to stay until she wakes up.” She then remembers her previous mental note and walks to the connected kitchen to grab a glass of water and some painkillers for the sleeping waterbender. Lin snickers a little, “She’s gonna be so hungover.”
“You can say that again. I thought she was going to vomit all over me when we were walking down Kyoshi Street.”
Lin lets out a small laugh, sitting on the floor and leaning against the coffee table to face Kiko, “She was practically green!” Kiko laughs along with her, I could get used to that sound... the earthbender muses, “She seemed to have a good time with Asako, too.”
Kiko nods, a lingering smile still on her lips, “They were hanging off each other. I’m surprised they didn’t go home together.”
“It’s good that they didn’t. Kya was way too drunk to be making good decisions.”
The conscious waterbender smiles, “I’m sure they will at some point...”
There is a brief moment of silence between the two, as Kiko admires the paintings around the open floor apartment, “These paintings really are beautiful...” She muses, more to herself than Lin.
The earthbender doesn’t quite know what to say, how does she get me so flustered!? “Thank you.”
---
It's another hour before Su wakes up.
She walks into the living room, rubbing her eye with one hand and holding a crisp, white envelope in the other.
Kiko, who had been sitting on the oversized armchair with a book, widens her eyes at the sight. The eldest Beifong sister does the same, having been sat on a kitchen chair she had brought into the living room to sketch. Kya, of course is still not awake.
“I found this on the table.” Su explains, holding the envelope up.
Lin walks towards her, holding out a hand to take it, “Give it here, Su.”
Su furrows her eyebrows, “Why? I found it.”
Lin sighs in frustration, her temper at the appearance of the envelope. She turns to Kiko, as if checking on her before looking at her sister again, “It’s Kiko’s. Just give it here.”
Suyin, a little grumpily, hands her sister the envelope, who passes it onto Kiko, “You don’t have to open it if you’re not comfortable.” Lin’s face is concerned as she looks at the waterbender.
“I have to, Lin.”
Before the earthbender can say another word, Kiko opens the envelope and widens her eyes at the words. Lin’s face falls at the disturbed look on the waterbender’s face and stands beside the armchair that she is sitting in.
Her eyes scan over the copperplate words,
Reveal yourself, or I will do it for you
Lin's mind immediately starts to race, what does this mean? How did they get in here? But before she can think anymore, Su’s piercing voice interrupts, “Can I read it?”
Lin immediately responds, “No!” Su looks concerned, so she elaborates, “It’s- it’s something private.”
“How did it get in there anyway?” Su’s tone is sceptical.
Kiko is the one to respond, doing a much better job at keeping her voice level and calm, “I must have left it in there by accident.”
“You’ve been here before?”
Lin’s face blanches, but Kiko continues calmly, “Last night was the first time I’ve been to your sister’s house. It was too late to take the ferry back to Air Temple Island.”
Su still looks a little doubtful, but she concedes.
Kiko carefully places the note back in the envelope and places it on the coffee table, “I’d better wake her up.”
“Good luck.” Lin snickers, sitting in the armchair that Kiko had vacated.
Kiko rolls her eyes and answers sarcastically, “Thanks.”
It wasn’t that difficult to wake up the hungover waterbender; a nudge to the shoulder and a whisper of her name did just fine in making her eyes flutter open. It was the next part that was the hard bit- getting her back to Air Temple Island.
Kya's eyes squint as she takes in the light filtering through Lin’s partially closed curtains. Her hand comes up to touch her head, but is quickly redirected to the glass of water and painkillers that are being handed to her by Kiko.
Kiko turns to check that Su is in the kitchen when she speaks, “I received a new note.”
Kya’s eyebrows furrow as she swallows the painkillers, “What? What does this one say.”
Kiko can tell that her brain is working overtime to get the words out, “Don’t worry about that for now. We should focus on getting back to Air Temple Island.”
“You’re going back? What about reporting this to the police?” Lin asks, her tone concerned.
“We need to get back, Lin. Katara will be worried.” Kiko pauses, “ And you have to look after Suyin. We can do it another day.” She reassures the concerned looking earthbender, but Kya backs her up.
“I agree with Lin, we have to report this. Surely, they can send it in to be brushed for fingerprints or something. This has been going on for long enough.”
“See?” Lin’s tone is slightly smug. Two against one.
“What are you doing with your sister then?” Kiko frowns.
Before she can come up with more excuses, Kya buts in, “I can look after her for the day.” Lin narrows her eyes sceptically, so she elaborates, “I’ve done it before. Besides, she likes to hang out with me. You can trust me, Lin.”
The earthbender sighs, realising that she doesn’t have much choice, “Fine.”
Kiko lets out a little groan at the thought of going back to the police station.
“Oh, stop grumbling. Kya’s right, this has been going on for too long.” Lin says, narrowing her eyes at the grumpy waterbender.
“I guess you’re right.” Kiko reluctantly admits.
---
Lin’s nerves are slightly higher than normal, not just because of the thought of a stalker invading her home while she was asleep without leaving a single trace, but also at the thought of Kya looking after her baby sister. Oh, I just know she’s going to be coming home chatting on about how she wants to go travelling.
The pair reach the police station within 20 minutes with Lin’s slow driving. There was little to no words coming from Kiko, which Lin knows is a bad sign. I thought I would have at least one comment on my driving by now.
But no, the waterbender is completely silent.
Lin pulls into the staff car park and gets out, noticing that Kiko is taking her time to leave the car.
“Mom should be working now; we can go straight to her.”
Kiko nods silently, following Lin through the bustling bullpen on the top floor. They reach Toph’s office, the large intimidating metal door making Lin almost hesitate, knowing that Toph doesn’t like to be disturbed.
Nevertheless, she knocks.
A faint come in is heard from inside, and the door is willed open by her mother's bending.
“What are you doing here, Lin? I gave you the day off to look after Su.” Toph is pinching the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger, leant back on her desk chair.
“I know, but something’s come up.” She moves to the side, letting Kiko enter the office, “Su found this in my room.” Lin holds up the note.
“Well? What does it say?” Toph questions.
“Reveal yourself, or I will do it for you.” Kiko interrupts.
Toph nods, letting out a heavy sigh, “What is that supposed to mean?” She pauses, “And why was it in Lin’s room of all places?”
Kiko and Lin look at each other, “I stayed there last night.” Kiko answers, almost hesitantly.
“Why would you do that?”
“It was too late to get a ferry by the time Kiko left work, but that’s beside the point. Can we send this to be brushed for fingerprints?”
Toph thinks for a few seconds, “Are you sure it will be worth it? This creep seems to be thorough in not leaving any trace.”
Lin’s frown deepens, “If there’s even a chance of this person being caught, shouldn’t we take it?”
“I suppose.” Toph leans back in her chair, “We can send it in for testing, but I think that it would be a good idea to put Kiko in the Zheng Hai protection programme in the meantime.”
“What? I don’t need to be a part of a protection programme! I can handle myself!” Kiko’s voice seems to come back to her in protest.
Toph rolls her eyes, but Lin nods, “I agree with the Chief. Yes, you can protect yourself, but you never know what could happen.”
Kiko shakes her head adamantly, “No, it’s not necessary.”
What's wrong with her? Why is she so determined to not be put on this list?
“Come on, Kiko-”
She gets cut off when Toph leans forward and rests her elbows on her desk, “If there’s any escalation further than some notes, then you are joining one immediately.” Her voice is stern as she speaks to Kiko.
“Fine.” The waterbender agrees, frowning at the Chief.
“Good. Now get out of my office.”
---
Kiko stares out of the window of the passenger seat in Lin’s Satomobile, keeping quiet once again.
She was told by Toph that they should have information on the fingerprints within the next month, but she can’t help but think that it isn’t soon enough. I can see why she’s so uncomfortable. Maybe I should have encouraged her to join the programme more.
Lin is hesitant to speak up, “Are- are you okay?”
“I can’t believe I put you and Suyin in danger like that.” The waterbender shakes her head, keeping her eyes trained out of the window, “I should’ve known better.”
Lin furrows her eyebrows and frowns, “You could’ve never guessed that this would’ve happened. So stop blaming yourself.” She says, her tone firm.
Kiko scoffs, “I can still feel their eyes on me. It was a stupid move to go to your apartment.”
“Will you stop that? You’re not damn clairvoyant so stop acting like it.” Lin catches a glance at Kiko, “I’m fine, nothing has happened to me.”
“You’re not getting it! Whoever this is knows where you live now, I’ve put you and your sister in danger.”
“Do I have to repeat what you told my mother? I can handle myself. I’m a police officer and the daughter of the strongest earthbender, there is nothing to worry about.” Lin grips the steering wheel angrily, parking at the docks closest to Air Temple Island.
“I know. I just- I feel so guilty that I put you in danger. What if something happens?”
Lin grits her teeth and turns the engine off. They both sit in a slightly awkward silence for a few moments, she doesn’t quite know what to say to comfort the waterbender, “Nothing is going to happen.” Lin doesn’t quite believe herself, but she tries to suppress the feeling of anxiousness settling in her chest.
Kiko shakes her head, eyes trained on the floor of the Satomobile, “I hope you’re right.”
The waterbender doesn’t wait around for Lin’s response and leaves the car. She watches her walk to the small ferry, handing over a few yuans before they depart to the Island.
Lin’s heart feels heavy as she pulls out of the docks. She finds it hard to talk to Kiko; something about her makes her nervous. Could it be the fact that she’s best friends with Kya? She can rule out the stalker thing, the earthbender has faced far scarier matters in her lifetime so far.
But as she makes her way back to her now empty apartment, a picture of the waterbender’s cerulean eyes invades her thoughts.
Oh no...

The New Gen
Tumblr media
pairing: Korra x OFC
synopsis: As Korra breaks from the overbearing walls of the White Lotus, she begins to explore what being the Avatar really entails. Unintentionally thrusting herself in the city's rising turmoil, she tries to balance her job and being a teenager. Thankfully, she has friends to keep her head straight.

Tumblr media
As the Gaang grew older, they established careers and families. Of course, they believed that their children would also be friends – more like a dream in Katara’s case – but they weren’t quite prepared for the length to which the children were willing to go. While Zuko’s daughter, Izumi, liked her infamous friends, she preferred to stay within the castle by her parents’ side. For Toph, Katara, Sokka, Ikkara, and Aang, well, they would’ve begged for their children to be the same.
Toph’s eldest, Lin, had been dating Katara and Aang’s youngest, Tenzin, for two years. In the beginning, it was puppy love. Tenzin chased after her and she’d pretend that the young Airbender had no effect on her. It was adorable, while it lasted. Things changed, for the worse. They were becoming older, discovering themselves and how they saw their future, and a tension began to rise between them.
Working under her mother, Lin soared through the ranks, burying herself in her work while Tenzin was beginning to set himself out as a political figure. With prominent careers, the topic of marriage and children arises. Despite Lin’s caring and protective nature, her family-based trauma tended to hold her back. She was scared, to say the least. If she was to marry Tenzin, only Spirits knew how bad everything would be.
What ifs ran through her mind, day in and day out. What if Aang and Katara no longer approve of me after we’re engaged? What if I can’t give him children? Much less, Airbenders? Him and Aang would be so disappointed, I don’t want to get their hopes up. What if I’m not the perfect wife? The perfect mother?
It was just a sea of unanswered questions and unfortunately, Tenzin was an airbender – not a mind reader. He didn’t understand Lin’s way of thinking, he couldn’t predict that her upbringing would scare her away from building her own family. He couldn’t even answer all her questions. So, in turn, he began to create distance. Much like his estranged girlfriend, he too began to search for content within his work.
As they continued to avoid the weight on their relationship, Tenzin’s attention was caught by an acolyte of the temple. Continuously working around one another, taking daily walks around the island as they fed the Lemurs, the two became attached. Wherever he went, she was there by his side and if he was to leave for the city, she’d stay on his mind.
Enraptured with the woman, he never noticed how hard things were to become. Pema had taken the initiative and confessed her feelings and without a thought, Tenzin had openly reciprocated the confession. Rushed to end the relationship with Lin, no matter how many times he said that he did… there was no real way to ease the hurt that struck the Beifong’s heart.
Spirits, the look on her face when he told her. She hoped that they could fix things, especially now that Suyin was sent away by their mother, she no longer had to work overtime to make sure the younger woman stayed out of trouble. But no. Just like her mother, her father, and her sister, Tenzin left her. He found someone else, someone better. Someone new. Tenzin left her!
In a blind rage, she tore through Air Temple Island with a strength not even her mother was aware of. She stomped and punched, splitting the island into two. From both sides of the island, Tenzin’s parents along with Sokka, Ikkara, and his cousin Ezra watched as their home became victim of the Beifong wrath. Nearly collapsing from a heart attack, she trudged back to the city without a word.
Promising herself to never step foot in that island’s direction ever again, life seemed to have different plans for her. As Tenzin and Pema were engaged, Ezra picked up the pieces from his best friend’s heart. As he sowed her tarnished heart back together, they conquered Republic City. After Toph stepped down, Lin was inaugurated as Chief of Police and Ezra was voted in as Head Councilman and Commander of the Republic City Task Force.
Their faces painted the front pages of the newsletters, busting one crime mob to the next. Eventually, their bond became stronger. It just hit them. Ezra returned home one day and frowned with distaste at the reality he lived in, constantly coming home alone. He no longer liked the silence that surrounded him, outside of his loudmouth father, of course. And Lin felt her gut churning with discomfort as she once again stayed late in the office.
Unlike her officers, she didn’t have a homecooked meal waiting for her or just overall a family waiting the wrap their arms around her, cheering that she returned home to them. Her eyes watered, a sense of finality coming over her as she analyzed the life she lived. Such a lonely life. Until one day, she no longer felt empty. The tall, muscular tribal man marched into her office and with a swift grip, he raised her to his eye level and indulged her with a kiss of passion.
Poor woman could barely step foot in the office that following week. As the two married, Lin discovered her pregnancy amid a crime bust, chasing down the Agni Kai Triad. Her heart nearly stopped as that dark creature returned with its endless pit of ‘what ifs’. Although, this go around was short lived for her husband was a man who understood her from the inside out and from her head to her toes.
And the family was rather excited for them. All except for Tenzin, of course. He couldn’t but to feel that the man he felt was the big brother he should’ve had betrayed him. In his eyes, Lin was a fixture of his past and deserved to stay there. Ezra could’ve fallen for anyone else, married anyone else. He just couldn't find the logic behind it. This elicited a loop of petty arguments and glares from the younger man.
Nothing too catastrophic until Tenzin took Ezra’s admiration for Lin and their relationship as boast to wave in his little cousin’s face. A fight developed, water against air until Aang put his foot and ordered peace. You know, the everyday job of the Avatar.
“I don’t know what has gotten into you two, but the tension in this house is ridiculous,” the aged Avatar grits. Ezra scoffs, “if anything is ridiculous, it’s Tenzin and his attitude toward Lin and I.” He turns his glare at the younger man, “we’ve done nothing to you!”
Tenzin’s eyes widen, wild and untamed, “nothing to me?! You married my ex-girlfriend and she’s now carrying your child. You betrayed me.”
“You want to talk about betrayal?” Ezra’s teeth grind, “then let’s get into how you cheated on Lin and didn’t decide to break things until after you and Pema started dating. Don’t act shocked that fate has decided to give her a second chance at love while you got stuck with a servant for a fiancé.”
Aang sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose, “okay, that’s enough. Both of you!”
Since then, the boys who once considered each other brothers turned into strangers. Ezra became a father to a beautiful little girl who they named Takari as he continued to lead Republic City with Lin while Tenzin and Pema had yet to reach past the engagement stage.
As Aang and Ikkara’s health began to decline, their last moments were spent surrounded by their friends and family. Aang’s dreams of rebuilding the Air Nation started with Tenzin and ended with his two-year-old grandniece, unsure of what his son and Pema were destined for. After his passing, Raava found her way in a waterbender while Takari began to practice her airbending.
Lin found it amusing that her only child was an airbender. As she told Ezra, it was as if the spirits gifted her baby a loophole just to show the woman that she was never the problem. If things were different, if Tenzin was different, she could’ve given him airbending children. But he wasn’t hers to hold and she wasn’t his to love.
Until a strange incident had occured...
The young girl was playing outside with a couple of classmates when a street rat, Fez, intruded on the fun.
The orphan was known to run small errands and even do the dirty work for the triads in exchange for money. When he wasn't occupied with that, he'd find enjoyment in torturing the infamous Beifong child and her friends.
Once again, he was hustling the group for the small amounts of money they had. A girl, Lianna, didn't have any to share so instead he ordered for her late grandmother's betrothal necklace.
She refused, again and again, causing the young firebender to kick an arc of flames her way. Desperately, she dived into the middle of the street, watching as cars weaved around and honked at her. Fez continued chasing her in the road, unbothered, throwing non-stop punches fueled with flames.
Every once in a while, Lianna would block the balls of fire with small whips of water until he trips her feet with a rope of fire, he watches in amusement as she falls in front of an oncoming car. Enraged, Takari ran forward, hands reaching out for the girl, expecting air to leave from her palms.
Instead, the bit of earth Lianna was stuck to turned into a pillar, launching the young girl in the air. Watching her screaming form soar across the intersection, Takari created a vortex of air to catch her body and slow down her fall.
Confused and horrified, Fez watched the girl bend two elements to her will before running down the nearest alleyway. Quickly, she gallops in his direction, feet planting firm to the ground as her clenched fists hover just above the road. Feeling the pull of the earth underneath her, she pulls chunks of it over the orphan's feet.
As her arms continue to raise, the wall of rock rises with her motions, surrounding the boy's body. He jostles himself around, fighting for his body to find release to no avail. Her friends cheer happily as the police arrive, Lin steps from the vehicle with worry at the thought of her daughter in danger until her eyes fall upon the young boy.
"And what happened here?" She asks the children. Fez quickly answers, "that... that freak doesn't know what element she wants to bend. First, she's bending the road and the next she's airbending. Get me away from her!"

The Myth of Y/N (Korra x Reader) Part 26
OLD FACE. NEW IDENTITY.
Y/N’S POV
Kuvira and finally arrived back at the edge of Zaofu where the Beifong Household is located. After our emotional talk about our parents of all things we hung out for bit more while before we headed back. Apparently, the guard’s shift was about to start soon.
When we finally reach back to where we began, it was past afternoon. I don’t see any of my friends anywhere. They must be around here somewhere.
“Here we are.” Kuvira states.
“Here we are.” I echo back.
I glance back at the guard with a smile who smiles back.
“This was nice.” I tell her. “I had a good time.”
She nods. “As did I. Hopefully, we could meet again before your departure.”
I hum in agreement. “So do I.”
Then, before I can even react, a press of warm lips land on my cheek and I am engulfed in flames.
“Good day, Y/N.” Kuvira tells me with a smirk, finding my flushed state amusing, and walks away with her hands behind her back in a business-like stature.
Even when she’s walking away, my cheeks still feel like they are on fire. I place a hand on the cheek that she had kissed.
Well then…
Shaking out of my flustered state, I start walking around the city and trying to find anyone there. It’s time I stopped avoiding them.
It took a few minutes, but I finally found them.
And what I see…
“What in the spirits is going on here?!”
I see Lin lying unconscious on the floor with Korra holding her head. Boulders spread out across the land like confetti, metal panels bent out of shape to form barriers, and I even see one of those weird metal structures crashed against the wall.
That’s not the only thing I see. I notice Opal on a bridge with Suyin and Bolin on the right end and most of the Beifong family on the left.
“Y/N!” Bolin exclaims with urgency. “Not trying to be rude but, uh, you kinda showed up at the wrong time.”
“Clearly.” I agree, walking closer to Korra and Lin. I kneel down next time and examine the Chief of Republic City Police’s health to see her condition. She looks awful. Not only is she slightly wounded from the fight, but she looks as pale and white as the snow land of the South Pole.
Opal rush towards us too, her posture clearly expressing her nearly overwhelming worry. “Is she okay?!”
“She’s pale.” I comment. “And slightly injured but…she’ll be all right. What happened?”
“I just learnt how to metalbend and Bolin was about to start but Lin showed up out of nowhere.” Korra explains, nervous and confusion mixed into one. “She and Su started to argue and then Lin attacked and all of a sudden they started fighting!”
Putting the revelation that Korra can now metalbend aside, I continue focusing on the chief. Sounds like the tension between the two siblings finally reached its dangerous breaking point.
“That doesn’t matter right now.” Suyin tells us, who has now walked towards us. Her tone expresses regret and shame. “We need to take Lin to her room and give her some medical attention.”
“Agreed.” I tell her. “Let’s carry her.”
With the strength of Korra, Bolin, Suyin, and I, we manage to bring her to her guest room. When we place her onto the bed, Aiwei enters the room with clear distress. “I heard what happened. Is she all right?”
“I’m not sure.” Suyin tells him.
The trusted advisor lets out a very tense sigh. He marches towards Lin and examines her. “This is my fault. I suggested to her to visit an acupuncturist to help deal with her supressed feelings. She must have not allowed herself to rest once the process was done.”
The worries from the matriarch and the truth seer aren’t mutual to mine.
“The Chief has been through worse.” I assure them but looking at Suyin specifically with sympathy. “She’ll live.”
“Y/N is right.” Korra agrees, facing them too. “Lin has dealt Equalists and mecha tanks. If she can survive that, she can survive this.”
The words of our reassurances seem to have worked as the tense and frightened looks of Suyin, Aiwei, and Opal smooth out and diminish slightly.
“That’s good to hear.” Aiwei responds. “Right now, I think she just needs some rest. We should leave her be.”
Yeah, that’s probably the best idea.
As we all reluctantly leave and then proceed to go our separate ways, I hear my name being called out.
“Y/N. May I have a word?”
I turn and see the matriarch. Her expression is unreadable.
With my fists tightly clenched and my body tensed, I slowly but surely walk towards her.
“Yes?”
“Thank you for helping to bring my sister here.” She tells me with her tone containing gratitude. “You didn’t have to after our last meeting.”
Oh…
“Lin needed help.” I reply. “I wasn’t going to refuse to help her because of some argument.”
She nods in understanding. “Of course. You’re as noble as Korra.”
“No chance.” I tell her in an attempt to appear humble. I hesitate slightly and bite my lip. Then, finally, I continue speaking. “Look, I am not going to apologise for what I said last night. I stand by my words. But…I will apologise for how I said it in front of your family. That was uncalled for.”
My apology seems to have startled the matriarch as her eyes widen in surprise. Then, a moment later, the surprise is gone. “Thank you. Apology accepted.”
And, with an exchange of nods, we depart.
I meet up with Korra, Bolin, and now Mako and Asami who seemed to have been caught up on what happened.
“The talk with Su gone all right?” Korra asks me when I finally approach them.
“Surprisingly, yeah.” I reply. “I apologised for how I acted to her. We seem to be on mostly good terms now.”
“That’s a relief.” Asami says. “That means you won’t be skipping breakfast tomorrow?”
I rub the back of my head with a sheepish grin. “I’ll be there.”
“What were you doing anyway?”
“I had a prior engagement.”
Korra cocks an eyebrow. “Prior engagement?”
I shake my head gently. “Met a guard of Zaofu when I stormed out. We hung out and decided to hang out today. She seemed pretty cool.”
“Pretty cool, huh?” Bolin asks with a smirk.
The memory of Kuvira’s kiss on my cheeks resurfaces and I feel my cheeks heat up slightly. Regardless, I roll my eyes.
“Not like that.” I tell him. “What about you guys, though?”
“Like I said before, Suyin gave me some metalbending lessons!” Korra informs me with excitement. “I am now the world’s first metalbending avatar!”
My eyes widen. Not even Aang learned metalbending? Interesting.
“That’s awesome, Korra!” I tell her. I turn to our earthbending friend. “What about you, Bolin? Did Suyin teach you too?”
My words seem to have struck the wrong chord, though, as nervousness washes over him. “Uh, no. No. Not yet. She was about to but, uh, Lin interrupted.”
“Oh.” I respond, not really knowing what to say. “Well, I’m sure she will give you some lessons later.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Bolin responds, the nervousness still present. “Of course.”
Hm. Odd.
I open my mouth to speak…and then close it.
Now with the urgency of Lin’s condition now gone, the memory of my conversation I had with Kuvira and my final decision now returns more louder than ever.
It’s time.
“There’s something I need to tell you, guys.” I announce, my voice calm and steady. “Well, specifically, I need to tell you something Korra and Mako.”
“Why us two?” Mako asks, eyebrow raised in curiosity.
I gaze downwards to the ground, and I rub my arm up and down. “Asami and Bolin already know.”
“Know what?” Korra presses.
I take a deep breath and slowly let it out. Despite making my decision, I still feel my heart beating as fast as an Air Scooter.
“Back on Air Temple Island…” I begin softly, shifting my gaze to my friends now. “I phoned up my parents to tell them I got airbending and was planning on join the Air Nation…”
“What did they say?” the firebender asks.
I sigh yet again. “They told me if I join the Air Nation…they will disown me.”
Mako’s jaw drops in shock. Bolin and Asami stare at me with sympathy and care. And Korra…
“They…they couldn’t…”
I get it. I really, really do. Korra has known my parents for years. I’ve lost count of how many times she came to my house and played together while my parents watched on. They treated her almost like she was their own daughter.
“I thought the same.” I bitterly mutter. “But they did. They were being dead serious. They told me I was trying to abandon the Southern Water Tribe.”
“What?!” Korra exclaims, concern now being replaced with anger. “How could they do this?!”
“That’s not it.” I continue. I turn to face her directly and I see the fiery rage in her normally cool eyes. “They even brought you into it by wanting me to ask you take my bending away.”
“WHAT?!” Korra barks out. “That’s it! Let me call them and I’ll- “
“-Korra, no.” I interrupt her, placing both of my hands on her shoulders. I squeeze them gently. “It’s okay, I-“
“-It’s not okay!” she tells me. “They’re your parents and they’re willing to abandon you! That’s awful! How are you fine with all of this?”
“I’m not.” I bluntly tell her. “When the call ended, Bolin saw me as an emotional wreck. It has been bothering me since we’ve left Air Temple Island. I didn’t want everyone else knowing yet. I only told Asami about it because she’s had similar experiences with family trouble.”
“Why didn’t you tell me and Korra?” Mako questions. His tone doesn’t come across as judging or hurting or anything of the sort. Just curiosity.
I sigh. “You guys were so excited and focused on finding new airbenders and I…I didn’t want to be a downer.”
Before I can even react, Korra’s two strong arms pull me into a tight hug with her face buried in my shoulder.
“You will NEVER be a downer.” She assures me. “I’m sorry you’ve been feeling this. I knew something was off, but I had no idea it was this bad. I’m so sorry.”
The beating of my heart that was running as fast as a Satomobile slows down to a gentle pace and a comfortable warmth fills my form. I hug her back just as tightly and smile. “It’s okay. I get it and…I’ve made my decision.”
“And?” Asami asks.
Korra pulls back to look at me. I gaze at all of my friends, and I take a deep breath. “I’m going to join the Air Nation.”
“But your parents-“
“-Screw them.” I interrupt my best friend, looking back at her. “I’m not going to let them bully me into not living my life. I want to rebuild the Air Nation and be part of its culture. If they don’t want to be part of my life when I do that, so be it. It will hurt, really hurt, but…I have accepted it.”
As soon as I finish my monologue, two big, strong arms wrap around my waist and lift me upwards. I know the all too familiar hug.
“We’re so proud of you!” Bolin exclaims, voice overly emotional.
Mako and Asami walk closer to Korra, Bolin and, I, smiles full of pride on their features.
“Good on you, Y/N.” Mako compliments.
“I’m glad you’ve made your decision.” Asami adds on.
Korra is the last one who speaks up. “We’re always going to be here for you. I will always be here for you.”
Spirits…
I feel droplets beginning to form from the kind and heart-warming reassurances.
“I know.” I finally tell them, voice watery. “I have you, guys.”
“Yeah!” Bolin agrees, now excited. “You have Team Avatar!”
Classic Bolin.
I giggle at his excitement. “Yeah, I have Team Avatar.”
We’re like that for a moment or two, basking in the warmth that is our friendship. It feels like all the problems in the world are nothing but a minor inconvenience now.
Everything will be all right.
TIME SKIP
Darkness clouds my vision as I rouse from slumber.
Great. Another restless night.
Some time passed since I told my friends of my situation with my parents. Lin managed to fully recover and even patched things up with Suyin and her niece. Opal even convinced Suyin to let her go to the Northern Air Temple to learn and train with the rest of the airbenders. We just saw her depart a few hours ago.
At least, I think it was a few hours ago. I don’t know how long I slept. Ugh.
After a few minutes, my vision adjusts to the dark room and I can see everything more clearly. For now, though, I am not interested. I continue staring at the ceiling, lying flat on my back.
The thoughts of my parents stills fill my mind.
I have made my decision to join the Air Nation. Now I just need to tell them.
Tomorrow...
Yeah, tomorrow. I might as well get it over with.
After one phone call, my old life will be over.
Despite the hurt that will come, the wonder and joy of living the life of an Air Nomad will be worth it. I know it.
Maybe, just maybe, if I allow myself to think of it and if I’m really, really lucky…that new life will have Korra as my girlfri-
“THEY’VE GOT KORRA!”
WHAT?!
Scrambling out of my room and my own room, I see Mako and Bolin already sprinting out of theirs. I follow them soon afterwards, and I see four of the strangest people I have ever seen.
A tall and powerful woman with a jet black ponytail and a tattooed third eye. A combustion bender?!
A long-haired woman with…watertendrils as arms?! WHAT?!
A scruffy-looking bearded man with a dangerous build and stance, carrying an unconscious Korra over his shoulder. That bastard!
And a bald man in robes. Wait…he looks familiar somehow…
I don’t have much time to ponder on this, however, as the four individuals unleashed a tsusnami of attacks with boulders, flames, water whips, and gusts of wind.
Wait-
Gusts of wind?! An airbender?!
Zaheer…
That airbender must be Zaheer. Lin said he got airbending now.
But still…why do I feel like I know him?!
Again, I don’t have time to analyse that question but thankfully Bolin creates an earth barrier to block the initial attack of the boulders which buys us just enough time to dodge the other incoming attacks and take cover behind one of the metal pillars.
“Sound the alarm!” I yell out to any guards in the area. “Zaheer and his friends are here!”
My yell worked as not even a second afterwards an ear-piercing screech that was the alarm fills my ears and blinding headlights appear into view and start shining towards the four individuals.
My relief is short lived, however, as mere seconds later an explosion appears out of absolutely nowhere with a force of ten mecha tanks which fling the three of us backwards! I roughly land on my back and pain fills my entire form!
Asami rushes to us with panic and worry written clear on her face.
“We can’t let them take her.” Mako groggily tell us, trying to recover from the impact of the explosion.
“I don’t think they’re going to get far.” Asami reassures us. She points towards them with urgency. “Look!”
I turn to the direction Asami pointed at and I see it.
Together with the effort of Lin, Wei, Wong, Kuvira, and the rest of the guards they are able to trap the four fugitives in a metal prison of their own making.
“We have you surrounded. It’s over.” Kuvira declares, her tone not revealing any trace of fear or nervousness. “Release the Avatar!”
I rush up to them to examine the scene. Okay, okay. Good. They can’t escape now! There’s no way they can-
-Suddenly, the grass around begins to be filled with molten rock, then filled with a hot pool of lava!
WHAT?! HOW?!
The metal panels that trapped the four fugitives succumb to the overwhelming heat of the lava and one by one they fall apart, revealing them in battle stances.
“No way! That guy is lavabending!” Bolin exclaims with complete shock. “That’s awesome…ly not good for us.”
Lavabending?! That’s a thing?!
“Save your admiration for later, Bolin.” I snap at him.
Then I see the bald man use his wooden staff attempt to create some sort of cover for him and his friends with his airbending. One of the guards notices this and exploits the temporary vulnerability by shooting out a metal cable that wraps around his arms like a snake and with considerable strength, flings him away off the platform!
That man…why is he so damn familiar? I have to know!
I run. I run despite the yells and screams of my friends. I run to where the man lands as he fights two of the guards. Much to my surprise, he seems to be taking them on effortlessly with some sort of mixture of martial arts and airbending. Who in the spirits is this guy?!
He blasts the two a good distance away and before he can press his attack, I launch my own with a powerful gust of wind! He is sent back but quickly recovers with a retaliatory swing of his staff that creates a tunnel of wind in my direction. I dodge with a roll, raise my fist and-
Freeze.
So does the man, his eyes now so wide they look like they could pop open.
That face…
I know that face…
I know those olive green eyes and those sharp eyebrows. I know that slightly cut left eyebrow which has been disconnected from one section of the eyebrow to the other.
“Yorru?!” I exclaim, my stance faltering into shakiness.
The flash of recognition in his eyes confirms my suspicions. “Y/N?!”
It is Yorru!
Yorru is the man who tried to kidnap Korra?!
Yorru is Zaheer?!
“What are you doing?!” One of the two guards yells wh are now running back. They launch their metal cables at Yor-Zaheer, but he dodges them with a quick backflip. When he lands he launches yet another air strike which hits them again. This time, however, it knocks them out cold.
And I? I just stand there during all of this, still frozen in shock of the truth.
When the guards get knocked back, though, I snap out of it.
I rush forward to Zaheer and deliver a low air swipe kick in an attempt to knock him to the ground. I know he would most likely dodge it and when he does just now I use my low position from my previous attack to roll away from his counter-attack and then flip into the air, spin as fast as I can, and launch a powerful air kick!
Only for him to dodge it!
WHAT?!
Now left vulnerable midair, Zaheer launches an upward air kick in retaliation which knocks be back to the top of one of the pillars, hitting me straight in the spine.
“AGH!”
I land with a loud THUD! I try so hard to get up but the pain on my back is too much.
However, instead of seeing him towering above me, I glance up and I see Zaheer looking back at the platform with his face full of panic.
Panic?!
I look to the source of his fear, and I see it.
Lin Beifong, Korra in her arms, holding a metal cable that is elevating her to the top of the dome, away from the other fugitives.
YES!
My relief quickly vanishes because Zaheer turns his staff into an air glider and begins advancing towards the two in the air!
NO!
Luckily, Lin dodges Zaheer’s attack and before he can launch another one Suyin appears in a metal cable of her own and sends dozens of daggers into his direction, ruining one of the wings of the glider and causing him to land back onto the glider!
Before, I can celebrate the victory, however, the entire area is filled with black smoke that clouds my eyes! When my vision recovers, they are gone!
HOW?!
Despite the frustration, though, we had a victory. We saved Korra.
KORRA!
Ignoring the excruciating torment, I am feeling, I slowly rise to my feet. Almost immediately after I get up my back engulfs into a fiery torture of suffering. “AH!”
“Y/N!” Asami yells, rushing forward to me. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine!” I snap, trying to advance forward. However, as soon as I take a step, I begin tumbling back onto the floor. Luckily, Asami catches me just in time.
“You’re not fine!” She retorts angrily. “You’re badly hurt!”
“I don’t care!” I bark back. “I need to see Korra! Is she okay?!”
“Lin and Suyin have her.” She replies. “We need to give you some medical attention.”
DAMMIT!
TIME SKIP
We are in Suyin’s office. I am sat with Mako, Bolin, and Asami on one sofa while on the sofa opposite, Korra lies still while Aiwei takes care of her. When I saw her, my heart broke again. I haven’t seen her this bad since she broke down sobbing in front of Tenzin and I during the Equalist Crisis. No, scratch that. This is worse.
“This should neutralise the shirashu toxins.” Aiwei informs Korra, handing her some sort of drink. It seems to have worked slightly, as I see her slightly moving her fingers. It ain’t much but it’s a start.
“How could you let this happen?!” Lin yells at Suyin, frustration clearly present. “You assured me this was one of the most secure places in the world.”
“It is.” Suyin counters. “I don’t know how this happened. Obviously, this was a well-planned operation, so don’t blame me.”
WHAT?! How fucking dare she!
“Take some fucking responsibility!” I loudly tell her, my rage allowing me to ignore the pain of my back. “It’s clear you have a rat within Zaofu! A rat who is very influential and knows the city inside and out like your guards! Your arrogance nearly costed Korra’s life!”
The short-lived peace we established has fallen apart as Suyin glares daggers at me. “You have no right to lecture me, Y/N! We will question them all! Whoever betrayed my city will suffer the consequences!”
I let out a sarcastic laugh. “Oh, so when outsiders make “some mistakes” you give them second chances but when someone within Zaofu makes one then they will get punished? Fucking rich!”
“Enough, Y/N!” Lin barks out, silencing me in an instant. The anger, while still present, is mixed with shame and guilt.
Dammit. I told Korra I would tolerate Suyin and I already failed…
“Everyone!”
We all turn to the voice and I see Kuvira, standing tall and proud. “We searched the entire estate. There’s no sign of them.”
DAMMIT!
“Well, keep looking!” Lin orders at the captain.
Now that the silence has filled the room, despite the intensity due to the argument between Suyin and I, my mind returns to Zaheer.
I need to tell them.
“I met Zaheer before.” I announce.
“WHAT?!” everyone shouts, absolutely shocked. Even Korra, in her paralysed state, appears shocked with her widened eyes.
“When?!” Lin demands. “When did this happen?!”
“It was just before Harmonic Convergence.” I explain, trying my hardest to recollect. “Korra, Jinora, and I meditated into the Spirit World to close the Northern and Southern Portals, but we got separated. A spirit told me to go to Wan Shi Tong’s Spirit Library for some answers. When I got lost, Zaheer approached me. He said his name was Yorru and he guided me to the library and just…disappeared.”
“Did he say anything to you?!” Lin demands, quickly processing my story and like a true Chief of Police seeks out any other relevant information. “Anything at all?”
I pinch the bridge of my nose as I concentrate to find the memories.
“I simply spend my time in this realm because it makes me feel more free than ever. Freedom is essential to one's happiness."
“I haven't been free in a long time. "What ifs" and what could have beens have been plaguing my mind for years. I'm homeless, you see? I am worthless to the eyes of corrupt leaders of the nations. But here? Here, I feel more alive than ever."
“I did. Three of them, actually. They were my best friends. One of them...she...she was the love of my life. But they're gone now."
"I, too, find the culture fascinating. I admire it. Their views on life and how the world works are truly inspiring."
“He…he talked about freedom, corrupt nation leaders, having three now gone best friends with one of them being the love of his life, and his fascination with the Air Nomads.” I slowly tell them as I begin to remember the words. “I assume the three friends he was talking about was the other fugitives present. However, he also claimed he was homeless. For all I know some of it could be bullshit.”
“It’s the best we’ve got.” The Chief tells me. “That’s more information we’ve had about him than when we interrogated him.”
“Why didn’t you tell us before?” Mako questions.
I frown. “I didn’t think it was important. How was I supposed to know he was a criminal? That doesn’t matter now, what matters is that we need to find out let them in and why.”
“And we will do just that!” Suyin exclaims. “We won’t stop until the traitor is found!”
She marches off, anger still burning within her. I frown yet again. The absolute hypocrisy of that woman drives me fucking insane!
I glance back at Korra who is still lying flat on her back and paralysed. I’ve never seen her so helpless before in my life.
My fists clench at the sight.
Zaheer will suffer for this.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's it!
Did you know Yorru was Zaheer? He used that name when he infiltrated Air Temple Island in "Rebirth"
Hope you all enjoyed it!
Feedback is appreciated!
See you all in the next chapter!
