Sorry more banana fish hater posting but literally worst choice known to man to set it in a modern setting. Not only does it completely destroy the technology limitations that did make the original both dated but kind of timeless (in terms of not using fucking smart phones?!?!) But it also really changes a lot of the racism that's depicted in there in a much more nefarious way. Skips death would have a lot different context in NYC 1980s compared to NYC 2018. Not even to get into how it point blank ruins many of the plot points and choosing to make it modern and make the war Griff fought in be in IRAQ. Instead of Vietnam like .. it's just so fucking bad it's insane I don't understand how anyone thought this was a good idea. One of the only good things Abt the manga IS its setting, and to make this change is really just screwing everything up to put it very lightly. All of the stuff that made sense socially (ie the homophobia, actions of the police etc) in the 80s setting make NONE in a modern setting.

Imagine...

An author known for their romance books, filled with cute pet names, wordy declarations of love, and many more dumb and sappy cliches. But the thing is, this author hardly feels anything for what they write, aside from wanting to laugh. They can't help but find their characters absurd. One look from their darling, and suddenly their heart flutters and their knees feel weak? The author thinks that's completely unrealistic - how can just one person turn you into such a lovesick fool? 

But this attitude changes when the author ends up falling in love themselves. 

The author falls hard and fast for a bookworm, one particularly fond of romance. The bookworm can't stop themselves from gushing about their favorite characters and moments from the stories, no matter how mushy and silly they might be. The stories makes them happy, which is exactly what the author feels whenever their bookworm is around. The bookworm laughs, the author laughs. The bookworm talks, the author listens.Tthe author's heart just refuses to stay inside their chest whenever their beloved bookworm enters their thoughts. It flutters, it races, and it soars as they melt. 

The author is absolutely giddy, drunk on love, but groans and sighs. 

Why? 

Because when it comes time to write another dumb, sappy, cliche-filled romance, the author has found that their heart begins to stir. They find their drafts blank, as their mind is filled instead with thoughts of their bookworm. 

The author now understands why their characters act the way they do. For they are just as love-struck and dumb as their characters, and they need their bookworm to take some damn responsibility for making them feel this way.

When I was a kid my family pretended to get raptured so I would think I was left behind on earth while they all went to heaven.

I was like 8 years old and my sister and mom had gotten really into the Left Behind novels (bible fan fic about the rapture). In the books when the rapture happened the clothes that people were wearing when they got raptured were left behind in neatly folded piles.

One day when I was getting home from school my family decided that they would leave piles of neatly folded clothes around the house, and then hide in the basement.

The intended effect was that I would get home and see the clothes then, think that my family had been raptured and that I wasn’t good enough to get into heaven… or something?

The problem was that I had never read these books, and didn’t really think about the rapture very often. There was no reason that I would see some laundry on the floor and think “The rapture happened and I’ve been abandoned by God! I’ll never see my family again!! Oh nooo!!!!”

I just sat down and watched cartoons and eventually my family got bored and revealed that they were all hiding in the basement.

It’s a good thing I didn’t understand the joke, otherwise that shit would have been traumatic.

Senator Bob Casey’s race is now at a margin of 0.53%.

An automatic recount in PA is triggered with a margin of 0.5%. That’s a difference of 0.03% or a little over 2,000 votes. We need to make sure every ballot is counted here, and there’s thousands of uncounted ballots right now due to voter error.
