Launch Day: Winds of Change
It’s out in the world, Winds of Change: a steamy paranormal romance collection. I’m very pleased to be part of the anthology of ten authors that’s not available on Kindle Unlimited and Amazon. We had a fabulous book launch on Halloween night in Melbourne at the Wheelers Hill Library, I wasn’t able to attend because I have a dumb cold; unfortunately germs are everywhere and sometimes they get…

Jon and Jake grew up in a small town in Mississippi where everyone knows everyone. Most everyone in the town went to church on Sunday mornings while they were growing up. When the brothers got older and left town things in the small town began to change. Jon got married and moved back to the small town with his wife and young son. He came back to help out on the family farm. He was enjoying the life with his family. Jake made it big in Las Vegas by working as a casino floor manager. He was living the highlife. One day his boss offered him the chance of a lifetime but he would have to move back to the small town. This move could be more costly than Jake ever imagined.

I've had a couple of messages over the last few days from folks saying things like, "Sorry, I can only afford to get your book through the library," and I need you to know I am gripping you by the shoulders, I am shaking you gently, and I am begging you stop apologizing for using library services.
After Amazon and Payhip, the quarterly checks I get from Overdrive/Libby are my biggest and most reliable source of income.
My readers have been nothing but feral in their quest to get Hunger Pangs into as many libraries as possible, and while library lending pays an exceptionally modest amount, if enough people do it (which many of you evidently are), those pennies add up.
I am guaranteed at least $20 a month in library lending royalties. That might not sound like much to some folks, but to me, that's my b12 supplements covered for the month. That's the thing I need to keep me alive paid for.
I will never resent anyone who uses libraries instead of buying books.
I'm a disabled author who lives month to month at the mercy of my medical expenses. Even though I have incredibly generous patrons and supporters, I know what it's like to not be able to afford things.
Use the library. Please.
Use it guilt-free. You're helping the library and the authors, probably more than you realize.
And if you're in the US and haven't signed up for a @queerliblib free library card yet, you should! it doesn't matter what state you're in, the Queer Liberation Library offers free access to their catalogue of queer media across the US.
And if you've got the means, maybe help them out with a little donation. They're only able to expand their collection via the support of their patrons, and the work they're doing is hugely important.

I had the privilege to meet Ann Claire this evening at my local bookstore and she was absolutely lovely! If you like cozy mysteries, I seriously cannot recommend her books enough. I picked up her newest one, A Cyclist's Guide to Crime and Croissants, tonight and can't wait to read it soon!
~ books read in 2024 ~
#5: Dead and Gondola: A Christie Bookshop Mystery by Ann Claire
I swung open the heavy oak door and blinked at the figure taking shape in the blizzard. "What a perfect day for murder!"
Rating: 5/5
Three Sentence Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this introduction to the Christie family, their shop The Book Chalet, and their beloved pet Agatha C. (as in "Cat") Christie. The mysteries in this story weren't too predictable, with a few moments that managed to surprise me. I look forward to the next installment in the series!

I am begging y’all to hit reblog on fics you like. Leave a comment if you’re comfortable. Tell the author how you feel about it in the tags, in their inbox, or anything because too many authors are leaving because they don’t feel appreciated.
#like truly I need yall to do a bit better on letting these authors know how you feel about their work because it means something to them#they write for us for free and they deserve some feedback on how we feel#harry styles fanfiction#my little lanky baby#my little irish marshmallow#harry styles#niall horan#support your local fic writers

im gonna start posting fanfic recs btw whenever i find good ones. both here and my (awfully barren) 18+ account. because there are so many good fics out there with so few hits and fewer kudos and sometimes no comments period and it SUCKS because i REALLY LIKE THEM A LOT.. and i hope that by linking them here and yelling at everyone to COMMENT DAMMIT they might actually do it
seriously though any comment means a lot. most people who read a fic don’t even give a kudos. even if the fic wasn’t top tier, if you didn’t dislike it, hand over some kudos!! and if you liked it, comment!!!! even if the comment is one singular heart emoji it will be appreciated. if the comment just says “great fic!” the author will be happy. your comment doesn’t have to be this long winded gushing or analysis.
so many authors quit writing or lose motivation because the comments are few and far in between or just sometimes nonexistent. trust me when i say authors don’t care about how long or cool or smart sounding your comment is i promise!!!
i hope that mmmaybe recommending fics and telling people to comment might help fics i really like get more support maybe. and i, points at you reading this, hope that you will listen!!!at least a little….at least sum kudos….
#if u have the ability to reply to my reblog saying how much you loved the fic i recommended comment on the fic itself so the author can see!#especially since the rise of ai writing and seeing ai fics out there can be disheartening#make sure you let your writers know you appreciate them#you never know they might one day write a sequel bc your comment touched them#or might get the motivation to make more works.#(but don’t just comment bc you expect something out of it btw. sometimes the author might be too intimidated to reply ive seen that before)#im a huge yapper. if you can’t tell. lmfao.#and i mostly comment on guest. like 99% of the time because the fics are either really embarrassing#or i get nervous about them knowing me/finding my tumblr and thinking im cringw#bc i admire authors so much. and I get that nervousness! given I experience it!!! but guest mode EXISTS!!! most work allows you to comment#on guest mode!! the author CANT see the email you use for it!!! the only reason they even ask is to give you notifs if theres a reply to it!#a comment is still a comment even if on guest or an alt or your main#even if the fic is embarrassing shameful depraved smut you can log out and comment on guest. even if it’s embarrassing#because the author still worked HARD. it’s so hard to write. people don’t give enough credit to fic authors who do it for free#i had an account (now super abandoned) that had over 400k words. and that didn’t include wips#i reallg do struggle to write because i took a break for so long!!! i can write but not nearly as much as I used to!!! and it sucks!!!#support your authors guys. 1k words is an hour for the first draft at MINIMUM and another hour for revision and editing. and people get#pissy if a fic chapter is less than 3-4k words for some reason. that’s 6-8 hours of work at MINIMUM. likely so much more because there’s#also plotting and brainstorming and So. Much. Editing. stressing out over words and sentence structure. it takes so much time out of your#day. the only oneshot i have posted on this account is 2460 words. and it took me SEVEN HOURS#seven hours!!!! that’s a lot!!!! and for authors that have school or demanding jobs that kind of time is hard to come by!!!!!#and I hope i have convinced at least one of you to listen and go okay you know what. i will. because even if it’s a silly comment it’s loved#tldr support your local fanfic authors of you will be so stabbed. by me#fanfiction#fanfic#archive of our own#ao3#comment on fics#wick fic recs#that’s the rec tag btw. wow custom tags AGAIN i know. im doing what i thought i never would

Sources on Louisiana Voodoo
door in New Orleans by Jean-Marcel St. Jacques
For better or worse, (almost always downright wrong,) Louisiana Voodoo and Hoodoo are likely to come up in any depiction of the state of Louisiana. I’ve created a list of works on contemporary and historical Voodoo/Hoodoo for anyone who’d like to learn more about what this tradition is and is not (hint: it developed separately from Haitian Vodou which is its own thing) or would like to depict it in a non-stereotypical way. I’ve listed them in chronological order. Please keep a few things in mind. Almost all sources presented unfortunately have their biases. As ethnographies Hurston’s work no longer represent best practices in Anthropology, and has been suspected of embellishment and sensationalism on this topic. Additionally, the portrayal is of the religion as it was nearly 100 years ago- all traditions change over time. Likewise, Teish is extremely valuable for providing an inside view into the practice, but certain views, as on Ancient Egypt, may be offensive now. I have chosen to include the non-academic works by Alvarado and Filan for the research on historical Voodoo they did with regards to the Federal Writer’s Project that is not readily accessible, HOWEVER, this is NOT a guide to teach you to practice this closed tradition, and again some of the opinions are suspect- DO NOT use sage, which is part of Native practice and destroys local environments. I do not support every view expressed, but think even when wrong these sources present something to be learned about the way we treat culture.
*Start with Osbey, the shortest of the works. The works in bold are those I consider the best- many are primary sources. To compare Louisiana Voodoo with other traditions see the chapter on Haitian Vodou in Creole Religions of the Caribbean by Olmos and Paravinsi-Gebert. Additionally many songs and chants were originally in Louisiana Creole (different from the Louisiana French dialect), which is now severely endangered. You can study the language in Ti Liv Kreyol by Guillery-Chatman et. Al.
Le Petit Albert by Albertus Parvus Lucius (1706) grimoire widely circulated in France in the 18th century, brought to the colony & significantly impacted Hoodoo
Mules and Men by Zora Neale Hurston (1935)
Spirit World-Photographs & Journal: Pattern in the Expressive Folk Culture of Afro-American New Orleans by Michael P. Smith (1984)
Jambalaya: The Natural Woman's Book of Personal Charms and Practical Rituals by Luisah Teish (1985)
Eve’s Bayou (1997), film
Spiritual Merchants: Religion, Magic, and Commerce by Carolyn Morrow Long (2001)
A New Orleans Voodoo Priestess: The Legend and Reality of Marie Laveau by Carolyn Morrow Long (2006)
“Yoruba Influences on Haitian Vodou and New Orleans Voodoo” by Ina J. Fandrich (2007)
The New Orleans Voodoo Handbook by Kenaz Filan (2011)
“Why We Can’t Talk To You About Voodoo” by Brenda Marie Osbey (2011)
Mojo Workin': The Old African American Hoodoo System by Katrina Hazzard-Donald (2013)
The Tomb of Marie Laveau In St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 by Carolyn Morrow Long (2016)
Lemonade, visual album by Beyonce (2016)
How to Make Lemonade, book by Beyonce (2016)
“Work the Root: Black Feminism, Hoodoo Love Rituals, and Practices of Freedom” by Lyndsey Stewart (2017)
The Lemonade Reader edited by Kinitra D. Brooks and Kameelah L. Martin (2019)
The Magic of Marie Laveau by Denise Alvarado (2020)
In Our Mother’s Gardens (2021), documentary on Netflix, around 1 hour mark traditional offering to the ancestors by Dr. Zauditu-Selassie
“Playing the Bamboula” rhythm for honoring ancestors associated with historical Voodoo
Voodoo and Power: The Politics of Religion in New Orleans 1880-1940 by Kodi A. Roberts (2023)
The Marie Laveau Grimoire by Denise Alvarado (2024)
Voodoo: An African American Religion by Jeffrey E. Anderson (2024)
#I’ll continue to update as I find more sources#Please be respectful of other people’s religion#Louisiana Voodoo#Louisiana Hoodoo#In the case of authors behind a paywall or whom you do not wish to support I highly recommend your local library#Voodoo#Hoodoo#conjure#rootwork#Books#some consider voodoo/hoodoo diff today but this may not always have been the case historically so they have been presented together here

if angel was raised on pandora it means that she and jack lived as residential settlers during dahls occupation. grogmouth likely worked for the flynts who, being a high status family at the time, in turn worked for dahl. baron flynt was the warden of thor, a dahl mining rig that doubled as a prison. the companys sole interest in pandora to begin with was to extract eridium and find alien relics, so a siren would be a priceless bargaining chip for their efforts. all of this to say its very possible that the flynts were the ones who sent out the order for angel to be kidnapped.
#borderlands#bandit rewrite#angel borderlands#grogmouth#handsome jack#baron flynt#i also doubt that the flynt family was technically a “bandit clan” at the time. more likely they were locals who had political power.#and were able to quickly fill the gap in leadership once dahl ran off. most bandit clans werent really a thing until then. there was crime.#but there was also a lot more law and a different way of doing things. baron being warden especially gave him a lot of chances to harm.#even if he had the support of the prisoners that were freed he still that maintained authority over them.#^ still obsessed with a character who died 15 years ago.#all we really know about the flynts is that their power is generational but we dont know their parents.#hell we're missing one of the 4 siblings we do have and the only named heir between them is sparky.#there is the possibility that grogmouth was working alone but ehhhh. no one ever Works Alone on pandora. theres always a boss.#always someone else. some random bastard with a few stolen turrets isnt going to have a way to contact dahls corporate overlords.#the flynts would though. and that power kept them in atlas good graces when they took over the planet. why else would steele defend them?

LUKE JAMES MILTON and his cousin CASEY ELIZABETH MILTON-PETERS from BODYSHARE depicted by @crystalline-sanders!!
Luke Milton made a deal with the devil. Now, he's getting everything he ever wanted: musical opportunities, charting albums, world tours, and a thriving fanbase. The only cost? His body, which he now shares with the devil itself as it goes about its mysterious business. All in all, the tradeoff isn't too bad. He's also always wanted an intimate connection.
BODYSHARE is OUT NOW!!
[ID: Two images, each depicting a character in a variety of poses. The first shows Luke Milton, a white man with hazel eyes and blond hair, wearing dark blue jeans, a white t-shirt, converse-style sneakers, and either a blue or orange flannel, as well as a gold pendant on a thin chain. He is singing, strumming a dark wood guitar, or scowling. The second shows Casey Milton-Peters, a Black woman with hazel eyes and curly dark brown hair, wearing dark jeans, a red t-shirt, white and red sneakers, and a belt with a gold buckle. She is leaning on her cane, waving over her shoulder, smirking, or looking out with concern. END ID.]
