Small Business Saturday Deals from Duck Prints Press
The busiest shopping weekend of the year is upon us, and I’m delighted to share (though sorry for adding yet more advertising to your life) that Duck Prints Press is running two big sales this weekend!
Kickstarter Flash Bundle
The Kickstarter campaign for our next anthology, A Truth Universally Acknowledged: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” is nearly 85% funded with 6 days left before the end. We’ve still got a bit to go to hit our base goal, though, and we’d love to hit some of our awesome stretch goals to get backers more rewards (without them having to spend a penny more!) and to get our contributors more pay!
To help us reach this goal, we’re offering a bonus flash reward level for new backers and current backers who’d like to upgrade: get A Truth Universally Acknowledged, all our campaign merch, AND e-book and print copies of all seven of our past anthologies, all for one massively discounted price of $290 – a savings of almost $100 over the list prices for these items! (Small print but not small: This level is US-only, and the $290 doesn’t include shipping.)
Tumblr media
This is the best price we’ve ever offered for our anthologies! Wondering what Duck Prints Press is all about? This is your moment! Amazing books at an amazing price – now through Monday December 2nd!

thank you for the shout-out! while we're calling attention to upstate NY queer bookstores, Black Walnut Books is a.may.zing and they only carry books that are queer, BIPOC, or both.
and while The Open Door isn't queer-only, they are definitely disproportionately queer, on a book-by-book basis, and extremely queer friendly. They're my local bookstore! I get all my spo danmei from them.
Now is absolutely the time to support queer authors, queer-friendly libraries, and queer bookstores. There is a lot of damage being done to these communities right now, and I truly believe community is the antidote. Find an author to uplift, request a queer book from your local library, and if you can, try and buy a queer book from an indie store. It makes a bigger difference than you might think.

Book Publishing Resources
Well, since a few people said they were interested and/or that posting about it on here occasionally was a decent idea, here we go!
I'm MC Calvi, a freelance editor specializing in self-help, psychology, spirituality, paganism, workbooks, and LGBTQ books.
You can find out more about me at my website, where I also offer free twenty-minute book/publishing consultations, in addition to regular editing services.
I am also now offering some pay-what-you-can resources on my website and on Gumroad. I'm committed to offering pay-what-you-can resources because the odds are already so stacked against marginalized authors, and publishing shouldn't be pay to win.
I have two new booklets I'm actually super happy with! They both draw on my eight years of experience in the publishing industry to give authors a leg up.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming as I hit "publish" on another good news post!

10 Ways To Support Your Favorite Small Presses
(these tips also work for supporting your favorite authors!)
Reblog reblog reblog! Reblogging their posts on tumblr is one of the best ways to help new readers find them.
Tell a friend. Word of mouth is golden. If you enjoy a book, recommend it to a friend who you think will like it too!
Leave a review. Whether you review on your social media, reading tracker app (e.g. StoryGraph, Goodreads), or on your preferred book retailer, every review helps.
Request that your local library purchase their books. And if your library has a service like Hoopla, see if their books are available for check out!
Subscribe to their newsletter. Most presses have semi-regular email newsletters where they give publication updates. By subscribing, you can keep up to date on new books and other fun stuff. (Plus, you might get cute cat pictures)
Give a one-off donation via Ko-fi, Buy Me a Coffee, etc. Everything so far has been completely free. But if you have a little cash to spare, this is a great way to show your support.
Pick up an ebook. You get to read an awesome book AND support your favorite press??? It's a win-win! Also, if your press has their own store, consider purchasing directly from them rather than through a third party.
Pick up a physical book. Not only do you get to support your fav, you also get to add a beautiful book to your bookshelf! And if you purchase directly from them, you might get some extra goodies or even a signed book!
Become a member on their Ko-fi, Patreon, etc. One of the biggest struggles with publishing books is the lack of consistent income. Providing monthly financial support can help the press stay steady during slower periods. And it probably isn't as expensive as your think! (Here at WPP, our Ko-fi membership tiers start at $1 per month)
And finally, let them know that you enjoy their work! Publishing is a long, lonely process that involves a lot of smashing keyboards and trying to decide where the commas should go. Telling them that all their hard work has paid off and that you enjoyed what they created will make their day. I guarantee it.

Hey guys, we're all aware that if you get contacted by a person with some variation of an account like @catherine-med123 that they're clearly a scammer, right?
We know not to trust someone to market our books who doesn't have a full name or any professional, or even amateur credentials?
We can tell the icon is probably a stock photo?
This is all very clear to all of us right????

Since my cozy horror, paranormal boys love romance web novel The Night Farm's first season is finally done on both Patreon and Tapas, I wanted to share the full wrap (small changes pending) to the physical edition with cover art by the amazing K. Lynn Smith! This series is perfect for fans of Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, and other cozy slice-of-life games and webcomics/manga, titles like Welcome to Night Vale, Gravity Falls, and Love Tractor. Pre-orders will open for the public on the 17th and include a small pre-order discount, a bundle of fun goodies, and you can upgrade to a coffee mug bundle, too!
I'm SO excited to share the physical edition with everyone, and I urge you all to check out the series on my Patreon (the book is available for $1 a month and season two will be coming along shortly) or my Tapas (on a several week delay). I ONLY sell my books through my website, so you'll have to buy directly from me if you want a physical copy, but I ship quickly and send goodies with every package!

marketing my book is so hard because I don’t wanna be like ‘hey I wrote this cute but kinda spooky sapphic fantasy with witches and monsters and mystery, please add it to your tbr on Goodreads and buy it next month when it comes out’ but at the same time that’s exactly what I should be doing lol oh to be a writer in this economy

Tonight: “Why Tell Stories?” Panel for Patreon Backers
Tumblr media
Did you know? Duck Prints Press holds monthly literary-convention-style panels for our Patreon backers! Our backers propose the topics, we take those suggestions and flesh them out or simplify them into a concept suitable for an hour-long panel, recruit Duck Prints Press contributors to participate, schedule the panel, and host it on Zoom for backers at the appropriate levels who are interested in attending! There’s also Q&A, livechat, and more involved. All in all, the panels are a great time, and the next one is TONIGHT, so here we are to tell you all about it!
Panel Title: Why Tell Stories?
Description: We love to tell stories, and we feel the desire, and sometimes need, to tell them and share them. That much is a given, but it begs the question: why do we feel that way? There are surely as many answers to this as there are people, but when we enter into discussion with our fellow storytellers, some common threads emerge. Discussing our reasons, those that we share and those in which we differ, is the purpose of this panel. Some of the topics we will discuss in this panel are: what has drawn each of us to tell stories, how do we decide which stories to tell, who do we tell these stories to, how do we decide how to tell these stories (such as what storytelling formats to use, how to approach narrative framing, etc.), what we consider a “successful” story, and, in the end, we’ll aim for a synthesis conversation to answer the original question: why tell stories?
Panelists: May Barros, Sage Mooreland, boneturtle, Alex Bauer, Sebastian Marie, and Rhosyn Goodfellow (moderated by Nina Waters)
Date: Saturday, October 26
Time: 8 p.m. Eastern time (time zone converter)
Backers who support our Patreon at the $7/month, $10/month, and $25/month levels are welcome to attend this panel, and backers at the $10 and $25 levels can also watch a recording afterwards. Become a backer now and join us at 8 p.m. Eastern tonight!

I just got my first royalty payments processed for Eternal Night of the Northern Sky!
It feels. So good.
If you're holding out on self-publishing for whatever reason, maybe it's fear that it's not good enough or that no one will like it: It is not your job to make that decision for your readers by not getting them the chance to see it.
Be obnoxious!

I don’t talk about my books often, but this is something monumental.
My book just made its way to my local library on Friday, and to my atonishment people actually want to read. Are actually reading it.
I'm this close to having a panic attack.
