hanahaki disease but its a tma episode and you unknowingly fall in love with an avatar so you start coughing up their respected element. you fall in love with a corruption avatar and start hacking up like mold or fungi or worms and spores blow out your nose like steam from a bull when you think about them. you fall for a buried avatar and can never seem to clear the dirt from your lungs and sometimes you find a stone or two has worked its way up into your mouth at the sight of them. and yes you're doomed you're either becoming an avatar or a victim at this point but you're not escaping this.

A very popular thing that I despise is the certainty of some fans that in season 1 jon was cold and unempathetic, and that he treated the people who came to give their statement heartlessly and cruelly.

And that's just not true??? He tried to provide them with whatever comfort he could in his position as an archivist, which amounted to him giving them space and cautiously offering to refer them to a specialist. He was meant to record, research and categorize their stories into little boxes. What was he supposed to do, say "of course I believe that you found yourself in an endless foggy field and the only thing that brought you back to reality was your dead husband's voice" like that's anything other than logically impossible???

He wasn't a therapist. His job wasn't to try and make these freaked out people feel better. His job was to literally pick apart, sort and categorize their experiences into little boxes, which he dutifully did. He was actually quite a decent archivist, with enough curiosity to research the statements carefully, and enough cautiousness to not get killed in the process. That's why he was doomed

BUT. And this is the important thing. There is still joy. There are still people who love you. There is still good being done. There's still hope. There are still little acts of kindness being done by strangers. There is still the little old lady who compliments your dress on the bus. There's still first dates and weddings, and adoptable kittens, and dancing in your kitchen at 2am, and good music, and getting your hair played with by a friend, and flowers to smell and puddles to jump in and things to write and sing and draw and CREATE.

There is still joy. Do not let people convince you otherwise
