Mxy's a goddamn liar.
I allude to it in this ficlet, but I don't think he ever had the capability to turn back time. Because if he did, then it would've been trivial in 2x13 to insert himself in Kara's life & try out different personas until something worked.
He's a trickster! That's his whole thing!
He had an obsession with affection for Kara, so he wanted her to feel better. And what better way to comfort Kara than by convincing her that no other path (in extremely contrived scenarios) could've worked? It's the obvious solution (... if you're a trickster god).
He means well, and he's a goddamn liar ❤️

me when i remember the 100th episode of supergirl was about how kara would try literally CHANGING THE TIMELINE to make lena forgive her and love her again and that if they had never met they would both be dead and that you can only plead the fifth in the US for yourself or your married spouse

Apart from show canon, at which point did u think it was too late for lena's immediate forgiveness to kara's identity reveal
oh boy. anon, here is where i come clean about my shoddy recollection of canon’s chronology. i’ve done so many fragmented rewatches and skipping back and forth—there’s a reason i rarely dabble with canon-adjacent stuff! and that even when i do, i create worlds where Lena figures it out herself!
second road bump to answering this question is that i have a LOT of feelings about how things played out on the show, and most of them are incongruent with the tone of sgcw. i understand their narrative reasons for keeping the secret from Lena for so long! but the execution is so, so terrible! ignoring large swathes of canon and replacing them with my own is the only way i’m able to enjoy at least the last tiny handful of seasons!
here is where i spend an hour procrastinating from my WIPs, while not successfully answering your question at all:
to be perfectly clear: i adore most parts of canon Kara. and i think i may be hard on her in ways i wouldn't be if i didn’t relate to her so much. i think her backstory is extremely compelling and i admire her ability to hold on to her kindness and hope and joy even after losing everything that was important to her, even when she’s tired and lonely and mad.
BUT. a healthy Lena—one who we were made to believe was finally freeing herself from Lex and Lillian, rising above the coping mechanisms she’d developed as an unwanted and emotionally neglected child? i don’t think that Lena would (should?) have forgiven canon Kara at all.
after the rift, canon Kara flitted between telling Lena she’d lied to her ‘to protect you’ to ‘one person who sees me only as Kara’ to ‘your last name’ to ‘didn’t want to lose you’ until she literally told Lena she was on her own, and she’d treat her like any other villain until Lena repented, even rejecting her apology at first, as if Kara’s own decisions had played no part in Lena’s downward spiral at all.
the Kara Lena would have forgiven is the much more cohesive and coherent Kara brought to us by our talented fix-it writers: a Kara who is willing to let herself be vulnerable and to second-guess her motivations, one who is able to put together a proper apology and actually listen to Lena's own.
but, okay, lets table all of that. this is me trying really, really hard to entertain canon:
Kara and Lena’s friendship became painfully lopsided by season 3. i think that was, if i recall correctly, when the super-friends decided to trust Lena enough to regularly ask her for assistance—but not enough to let her be part of their in-group; it’s where they left Lena in the dark about the fact that her best friend had come close to plunging to her death right in front of Lena's eyes, and was actively still fighting for her life; where they tricked Lena into having an extremely personal conversation with J’onn, while he was wearing Kara’s features, only to make belly-laughing fun of her about it later.
and even then, honestly, it might already have been too late. what about the aftermath of Jack’s death? was that season 2? Jack was Lena’s ex-everything, someone who genuinely loved her, who saw her through the fallout of Lex’s arrest. he was one of her last remaining friends, and Lena pressed the button to let him die in order to save Supergirl’s life. how would Lena knowing that Kara went through that with her, knowing Lena had chosen to save the life of her favorite person in addition to National City’s hero, have changed the way she felt about that horrible situation? that’s where that extremely wonderful heart-to-heart on the L-Corp couch happened, right? Kara swore she’d always be Lena’s friend—while keeping silent about the fact that she was there when Jack drew his last breath, that she had witnessed their final moments.
so—i really can’t tell you anon, i’m so sorry. the 100th episode already fabricated reasons why Kara couldn’t possibly come clean to Lena back when she made the conscious decision to be her friend (and not in a ‘keep your enemies close’ kind of way!), and i’m beginning to think that was the only moment Kara could have told Lena that would have kept her conscience completely clear. Kara should have made it part of her decision—either she was going to be Lena’s friend and give her the same trust Lena was giving her, or she would keep things professional, and keep her identity a secret from her.
Kara tried to do both, and if i really think about it, i don’t believe that was ever fair.

it's really weird that they didn't make Supercorp a thing, I say this as someone who watched season 2 and then stopped after the comiccon incident. maybe they refused to make it canon in the show because it was a middle finger to the toxic supercorp fans, and there were a lot of them. I wouldnt' even mind since the second crossover event made me leave the supercorp fandom in disgust, you know whne many of them cheered when and alternate version of Jimmy, a black man, was murdered by Nazi green arrow, because the writers had him get together with Lena, it was bad. Maybe there are other reasons but it's still just strange when you make their relationship the heart of the show and don't have them get together..., it's just weird.
Once upon a time was weird like that, their show had Emma, Regina, and Henry, Emma's biological son and Regina's adopted son, not to mention the fairy tale bullshit that connects the two of them, only for them not to get together.
But with Supercorp, it was something that developed naturally, neither of them had any chemistry with the men the writers tried to pair them up with, and it was horrible writing when they were together. Yet Kara and Lena's 'friendship' kept getting center stage in the series.
season 2 lena was abducted by the daxamites because she was brilliant and had been tricked into bringing them to earth. She's going to be forced to marry Kara's boyfriend because of his mother wanting her as a daughter
season 3 a huge part of the season was Lena and supergirl's relationship breaking down, though she was still friendly with Kara. She bought Kara's job for her and despite Lena getting together with James, the writers never tried to develop that relationship.
season 4 Lena is again a huge part of the story since Lex is the real big bad of the season. The big reveal of Kara being Supergirl to Lena is what was supposed to propel the next season's plot. After she shoots him he makes sure to reveal that Kara danvers is supergirl because he knows that nothing would hurt Lena more. You know her completely platonic friend lying to her is what sets her off the deep end to become a villain.
season 5 their relationship is what drives the plot completely now since Lena is going full villain mode. The writing isn't good, but the writers also couldn't stop the two of them from having chemistry.
Hell, the writers had to be aware because the entire 100th episode was about Kara and Lena's relationship. The entire premise of the episode is Kara getting to see clips of what would have happened with her relationship with lena if she told her she was supergirl at different times or just stayed away from her. Almost every time Kara tells her, there's stress in the relationship and things get worse, but they're all about Lena, 5 separate timelines and Kara can't think of anything she would rather change with her life than try and make things wright with Lena. By the end, the episode is supposedly telling us that Lena is a lost cause, but I don't know it wasn't that good of an episode to begin with. It doesn't change that the writers decided to focus on their landmark episode to focus on Lena and Kara's relationship
By the end Lena realizes that she was tricked by lex and joins the good guys, Kara is pissed at her for what she's done, but they eventually can work together again. When lex sends Kara to the Phantom zone Lena is distraught, more than anyone else, even Alex who at least had Kelly for comfort
Season 6 is about getting Kara back and finishing the show. They kill off Kara's temp love interest and Lena is shown to be so desperate to save Kara that she's willing to go farther than Alex, her loving sister, to get her back. Even at the end of the series, the last scene of two characters on screen having a conversation of the series, is between the two of them at a lesbian wedding, where they're in tears talking about how much they mean to each other and hug.
it is bizarre that the writers didn't have the two of them get together given how much the series was driven by their relationship. Like I said, if it was a middle finger to toxic supercorp fans I would understand, but as an aspiring writer, not even a shipper, I feel insulted about how the supergirl writers just tossed aside the perfect natural relationship in the show.
I don't want to keep going much longer, but thematically Kara and Lena were one of the best relationships in the show. The actor's chemistry between the two of them was better than almost every relationship in the show, especially with any of either of their romantic partners. I dont' know, like I said I left the fandom pretty early and the shows been over for almost 3 years, but it still just baffles me.

Not every show makes it to 100 episodes but these four did, so which one had the best episode to mark the occasion?
Thank you for the suggestion anon. This should be an interesting result.

I would love to hear about the Fate Has Intervened WIP you have going on :)
Would it surprise you if I told you it was another rift fic?
I picture it set sometime after the 100th episode before it diverges from canon. Lena walks away from her Non Nocere project but there's no reconciliation. Perhaps the wounds are simply just too deep. And when Lena realizes how close she came to crossing a line she had vowed never to cross she finds it impossible to trust herself to work alone. Too easy to imagine herself making excuses for herself. Too hard to trust her own judgement but her desire to do good wins out and she begins a tenuous partnership with Clark of all people. Something familiar about working with a Kryptonian maybe. Or maybe she knows that Superman is likely to be her harshest critic after Lex and after what she did to Kara in the Fortress and feels it's a rightful punishment. But time goes by and without really meaning to she finds herself working with the Justice League. Nothing official. There's L-Corp to think about and she doesn't want to even imagine the headlines that would follow if a Luthor joined the Justice League. And when the League finds themselves facing an enemy that specializes in magic, one that has no trouble at all taking down Superman, the decision is made to call in Kara (something that Lena doesn't agree with but knows better than to argue. pushes to assist while Lena's sent to the armory to retrieve a weapon that they hope might stop them. She spots the weapon in question but before she can retrieve it something else catches her eye that almost feels like it's calling to her...
Tumblr media
Just as Supergirl arrives on the scene, there's a flash of golden light and a figure making a beeline towards the enemy, tanking a blast of magic that had been enough to lay out Superman seemingly unscathed and just as quickly as it had begun, it ends and once the smoke clears, there's Lena still floating in midair wearing the Helmet of Fate. She's made a deal with the creator of the Helmet that still possesses it. The Lord of Order. Too long he's acted without a vessel, too long chaos has been allowed to run rampant. Speaking through Lena, he informs the League of the agreement. There are those that disagree but Lena's made up her mind. It might be safer to act as a force for good as a vessel rather than by her own hand... She's a Luthor, after all. Kara is the loudest to voice her disapproval but there's little that can be done. The deal has been made. Lena is no longer Lena. She's the vessel for Doctor Fate. But as per the agreement, Lena gets one day a year to remove the helmet, to be herself for a time. The first time that she does, Kara watches from a distance as Sam envelopes Lena in a hug, looking more stunned than anything. Lena consoling Sam as she cries against Lena's shoulder, asking Lena why she would do something so foolish. And Kara is left to wonder if they can ever reconcile, if perhaps they missed their moment to do so...

The Rookie: Season 6 episode 2 Thoughts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Haters are going to hate. I have decided to not hate anymore. Maybe they don’t have the best chemistry at time, and maybe Bailey Nune can be a bit too Mary Sue/supergirl sometimes (understandable since John is our righteous MC and there’s not time to explore everyone’s backstory), but after that wedding vows? They’re meant to be, I don’t want no breakup, and they should just continue their corny love story because they both deserve it.
Sometimes we need a sprinkle of goodness, bland domesticity and healthy communication in our lives and Bailey/Nolan is that. Leave the traumatic heartbreaks roller coaster to Chenford, one is enough to derail my mental health (bonus point this episode for communication between Chenford, bravo you guys!).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Celina Juarez, you think it was a good idea to pick up a felon (by yoursefl!) who told you he was being hunted in the middle of the night without backup or even a heads up to another cop? Really? Really? You're lucky I was too busy laughing at Nolan throwing a guy out the window to be mad at you again.
-----
Overall, along with the come back of Cop Cuties as a cold opening, this episode is one of my favourite episode ever. It's such a cute way to celebrate their 100th episode and I'm excited for season 7. Apparently there is a cliffhanger for season 6 though so I'm slightly worried.
Bonus: John Nolan looking devilishly handsome

14, 17 and 20 for Supergirl?
SALT TIME 🧂
14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
Hm, I'm not sure, really. To speak about the SC fandom specifically, I think within the fandom there is a tendency to view the fandom as Amazing and Creative and Beset From All Sides by Vicious Homophobes and from outside of the fandom there is a tendency to view the fandom as Obnoxious and Whiny and Full of Racists and I think the truth lies somewhere in between.
17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…
OK -- here's my pitch for how to end the 100th episode, assuming the rest of 5A played out as it did (though you could also tweak this to fit a better 5A lol). Have the "plead the fifth" timeline be the last timeline, after the Metallo Lena timeline. (If you need Kara to try more timelines before the Metallo Lena one to justify the attempt to cut herself out of Lena's life entirely, that's easy enough to imply with a quick montage + cutting down the action sequences in that timeline.) Have it go pretty much perfectly. No kidnapping Lena to force Kara to reveal herself this time. Instead, things are just peachy, and Lena even shows up at Kara's apartment for movie night. Hooray! Friendship fixed!
But Kara realizes this new timeline is just another deception, of both herself and Lena. She tells Lena that this isn't real...and Lena says she knows. It is revealed that Mxy approached Lena as well with the offer to see what her life would be like if Kara had told her the truth sooner. Lena asks Kara why she had to lie and says everything could've been perfect. Kara says she knows, and she's sorry. Lena says she's sorry too, but so what? That doesn't fix anything. Kara acknowledges this; she says she wishes she could magically undo it and make the pain go away, but she now realizes she can't. Lena reluctantly concedes that she's right, confessing that that's all she wanted as well from Non Nocere, to make the pain stop, but she now sees it would never work.
Kara calls for Mxy, saying she's done playing around with alternate timelines, and Lena asks if they have to go back. Kara says she wishes she had done things differently, but the truth is that she didn't, and they have to face reality and what they've both done to each other instead of hiding in another lie. Lena says she knows. As Mxy's reality starts disintegrating around them, Kara holds out her hand and asks if Lena will be there in the real world when they wake up from the fantasy. Lena takes her hand and says she will.
At last, they disintegrate as well, and Kara wakes up back in her apartment. Alex and J'onn are there, but Mxy is not; they ask what happened. Kara hugs them and tells them she loves them and is glad they're okay, but that she has somewhere to be. She ducks out of the apartment and ends up on the other side of Lena's door. Lena opens it and Kara says hi. Lena says hi too, then steps aside to let Kara in.
...Look, it doesn't fix everything, they will need to have Conversations, but at this point in the season both Non Nocere and them not speaking to each other were well and truly played out, so this at least addresses those issues in a suitably dramatic fashion.
20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
See now this is a fascinating question because how are we defining "pure"? 'Untarnished,' I suppose -- but by what? Unhealthiness? I suspect that the go-to answer for many would be Dansen, but given that their relationship's veneer of healthiness seems to largely be a result of Kelly not being given the space (or screentime) to have Inconvenient Emotions or to be a full person at all, I'm not so sure I'd call that "pure."
S1 Karolsen might be another option -- they're sweet and supportive of each other and they handle conflict much better than their sisters do, with James actually challenging Kara and Kara actually listening (again, in S1, before Kara decides that actually James should always do what she says and she never has to take his advice). Then again, they're afflicted by the tedious love triangle nonsense that leaves Lucy out in the cold and has the unintended consequence of making Kara into 'the other woman,' which is perhaps not so "pure."
There's Brainia, I suppose, who are very cute, although they suffer from persistent communication issues. Or Spheercorp, which is similarly sweet, although it does end with Lena being forced to literally kill Jack, leaving one half of the ship dead and the other traumatized for life. Reigncorp might actually be the best bet here; they're supportive of each other, good at handling conflict, and no one dies. Still, it strikes me as funny to call a relationship between a morally gray billionaire and her friend who she had to lock away in a kryptonite cell to contain her evil alter ego "pure." Mostly though I just think any answer I can give to this question is not nearly as interesting as the implications of the question itself.

AU where in the 100th episode Kara wishes so hard to save Metallo!Lena that the 5th dimensional magic that brings Kara back to our reality yoinks Metallo!Lena along with her.
Except it drops her somewhere that's not Kara's apartment, and Metallo!Lena is faced with a reality where Supergirl *did* save her. Where a version of her exists with a heart that still beats.
Maybe she'd still want to destroy Supergirl, but first she'd want to meet this other version of herself who has the world at her feet not through cruelty but through kindness. Maybe she'd even plan to take our Lena's place, to better position herself to hurt Kara.
Which means that our Lena is suddenly faced with the fact that her first instinct is to protect Kara, even when she thought her own anger and hurt was driving her to hurt Kara herself.
But when it all comes to a head, our Lena of course takes pity on Metallo!Lena. How could she not feel for this forsaken version of herself, this version who tried to save her world the only way she knew how.
Our Lena reaches out and takes her counterpart's hand, and presses it against her chest. Metallo!Lena stares with tears in her eyes at the reminder that our Lena's chest is whole and unbroken by kryptonite.
"It beats," our Lena murmurs past tears of her own. "But that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt."
Kara watches the two Lena's, eyes wide with realization that Metallo!Lena's pain isn't so different from our Lena's.
"You're allowed to feel angry. You're allowed to feel betrayed. But you won't feel better inflicting that same hurt on others. Trust me," our Lena urges. "I know, better than anyone."
Metallo!Lena hears the words, absorbs them, visibly shaking as she loses the one thing that has kept her going all these years. Our Lena brings her free hand up to wipe the tears that have spilled onto her counterpart's cheek.
"All you can do is control what *you* do. You can choose to let go. You can choose to move forward from here, and spend each day trying to do the next right thing."
Metallo!Lena nods. Mxy opens the portal back to Metallo!Lena's world, and Lena watches herself walk through it, chin trembling but lifted high.
When the portal closes, Kara makes her way to Lena, relief writ clearly across her features. She thinks Lena's words mean forgiveness for the hurt between them.
"Thank you, Lena," she says in a low voice. She reaches for Lena's hand, only to have it pulled roughly away.
Lena looks at her. Not with hurt, nor with anger, which Kara might have preferred to the apathy in Lena's gaze.
"I may have seen where hatred will carry me," Lena delivers cleanly. "But I haven't chosen to forgive you."
Kara swallows thickly. "What *do* you choose?"
Lena looks at her, and her chin lifts.
"I choose to let you go."
The last Kara sees of her friend is Lena's back as she turns and leaves the way she came in, calmly shutting the door behind her with a click.

hello hello!
🍐🍒🍈
for the writers ask please? :D
🍐 Is there anything in canon that you absolutely hate and love to fix in fics? A wrong choice made, a fuck-up in characterization, a misunderstanding never cleared up, a conversation never shown onscreen, etc…
Well, based on my current body of work within the Supergirl fandom, I seem to have an obsession on exploring various points where Kara could have told Lena and not have it explode in a way that harms both of them. lol
I think if Kara was brave enough to tell Lena, Lena would have worked through it with her. As for whether Lena would feel betrayed? It depends on where in the timeline this was done. (I personally think in Season 3 after Lena is poisoned and she wakes up and says in awe, "I dreamed you flew me," that's when Kara should have told her. They would have worked through it because at that point Supergirl hadn't done anything to hurt Lena. They'd actually been a decent team up to that point. But anyway, that's my headcanon, and it was a time period that wasn't touched in the 100th episode.)
Lena going full out villain is a wrong choice made and fucked up characterization. To do it required isolating her and erasing her own chosen family -- namely Sam. It aggravates me to no end.
I also REFUSE to have Sam written out of the story in order to push Lena into Evil!Lena because:
Sam would 100% be there for Lena no matter what and help pull her back from the brink. Lena definitely is guilty of thinking she knows best, but Sam has always been great at getting her to consider other viewpoints. Upon which, Lena explores that (being a scientist) and adjusts her tactics. (Lena in turn has helped Sam to view things in a different light. This is part of their dynamic.) In order to get Lena to be a "villain" they had to erase Sam. And that infuriates me. So I always bring her back.
In the 100th episode, we see that when Kara tells Lena about being Supergirl after the Mercy invading L-Corp shenanigans, Lena immediately goes to Sam. When she is accused of poisoning children in Season 3, who does she go to? Sam. One of the few times we see her in canon looking cozy and feeling safe enough to express her feelings just how they are, was at Sam's place. Sam is perhaps even more her best friend -- if not her chosen sister. Nothing Lex shared had anything to do with Sam, and Sam, like Lena, did not know Kara = Supergirl (based on dialogue in Season 3 the pair have and Sam has with others). There's no justifiable reason for her not to go to Sam.
So I fix that every single time I write a fic that takes place after the end of Season 3. Sam matters and plays a huge role in Lena's life. I refuse to have her erased.
Whenever I add Sam back in to the story, it pulls Lena back from the brink. She doesn't go off into Non Nocere territory because Sam helps her interrogate that idea and realize its harm. Sam gives her space to talk and feel her feelings. This in turn gives Lena different perspectives into why Kara did what she did.
When I examine the story from that angle, it often leads to Lena realizing that Kara's decisions to keep her in the dark are threefold:
Kara was afraid to lose her and wanted to be just Kara with her. Selfish reason, sure.
Kara really did believe if Lena knew she'd have more attempts on her life, and Kara couldn't bear that. This leads back to point one.
Kara was heavily pressured by people in her life to hide herself. This meant only a small amount of people knew about her. So then the question becomes who pressured Kara into this and why?
The logic train then enters into who within Kara's group is actually trustworthy? Lena, being highly protective in nature, often ended up in my tales talking things out with Kara eventually, and then helping Kara stand up for herself more so she can be her authentic self and not hide. How Kara finds ways to be her authentic self while keeping Supergirl identity a secret is part of Lena's influence because Lena wants to see Kara thrive as her authentic self. This may cause some distance with certain people due to how heavy-handed they were in pressuring Kara to hide herself (even from people she loved!), until Kara learns how to enforce boundaries better.
Lena can have that influence on Kara, but Lena herself needs someone in her corner to help her reach that point in understanding.
Sam is that person.
I'll die on this hill. lol
I have other thoughts on other fandoms, but I'll just limit myself to Supergirl for now. lol As in, don't get me started on the Korrasami one. I have THOUGHTS. My biggest problem is the forced love triangle nonsense, the incoherent storyline in Book 2, and the ridiculous fan-servicing in Book 4 (No, it makes no sense for overprotective Tenzin to send his kids in search of Korra. Also, we did not need FIVE "comedic" male characters that are basically the same personality just skinned different. WTF, give us more Asami instead). But there's too many thoughts for me to type out here -- or rather I don't have the energy to type them right now. lol
🍒 What’s your favorite character dynamic to write? (Can be romantic or platonic, specific or general!)
I sort of adore affectionate friendships. They are perhaps the most fun to write.
I also love writing friends to lovers dynamic too.
To be honest, I love them both equally. One or the other will show up in my works somewhere. It's inevitable.
Of these dynamics, I notice that I tend toward one of them being scientific-oriented and the other either a fighter/brawler (like Korra) or more artsy (or a combination of fighter/artsy). This is often called the red oni/blue oni dynamic actually if you want to look it up on that tropes website.
I even write this dynamic in my original fiction. I'll never escape it (not that I mind, it'll always be fun to write).
🍈 Who’s your blorbo and what are some of your favorite headcanons/ideas about them that repeatedly show up in your fics? Free pass to rant about blorbo opinions.
Lena Luthor and Asami Sato. Lena is basically just grey moral Asami, let's be honest.
What I love about them is the complexity inherent in their characters. They often have tragic backstories, they are trying to make their way in the shadow of someone in their family being evil (for Lena it is her brother and adopted mother. For Asami it is her father). They want to do good in this world but struggle against the heavy stigma on them.
There's a lot of fodder to explore there.
For Asami Sato, a lot of her arc happens off screen, which is a crying shame really. Her arc mirrors Korra's arc to the teeth. They are mirrors of each other. (To the point I called her the Avatar's mirror, and then decided to turn that into an AU, which became my Shared Moments series). Because so much of her arc happens off screen, this allows writers more freedom to examine what her life was like in those off-screen moments. To build up who she is to the point where she and Korra run off to the spirit world together and kiss dramatic and live happily together.
In contrast, Lena's arcs are more filled out that Asami's-- most of them do happen on screen, but there is a lot of details that are left out in her arcs. Bits and pieces of her history that are shrouded in secrecy, or rather CW writers who failed to write it or be consistent (if we're being honest). So these finer details of who Lena is and why she became who she is gives writers a lot of freedom to dig into her more deeply.
I think this is why there is a lot of variation on how Asami Sato and Lena Luthor gets written in fics, but there is still core traits of each that appear in nearly all the fics I've read.
For Asami Sato: she's an engineer, who loves to invent and work on engineering projects. She doesn't particularly like parties but deals with them because her job requires it. She's 1000% in love with Korra likely from book 1. She is introverted, kind, and generous. She's a workaholic that forgets to eat all the time. She has anxiety. For Lena Luthor: She's a scientist and engineer, who loves to invent new things and work in the lab (a workaholic that also forgets to eat). She knows how to manipulate the system to get what she needs done; however, whether she enjoys this or not is up for grabs (some fics show her as enjoying it, others don't, canon is unclear since its rare to see Lena in a state without her high walls the Luthors taught her to have. She often treats these moments as 'necessary for the job' which doesn't really strike me as something she loves doing). She's generous (hundred dollar tips much?) and can be kind, but she also has a temper. Her sense of humor is fairly dry, and she can be sassy in some situations. She's a polygot (not just languages but also body language, where she molds herself to fit the situation -- sometimes without even realizing she does this (case in point, with the Superfriends).) She has anxiety.
Both of them yearn to not be alone and just want to be loved. (And yet, sadly for most of the series for both of them, they are alone. Asami though at least gets the girl in the end. CW was cowards with Lena.)
When I read a fic that centers one of them, I can generally pick out these characteristics.
I think I just find these characters so fascinating because of that depth. Even with the bad writing that both characters were subjected to, their intricate personalities and depth still shone through. Not even bad writing could erase that, and both have made a lasting impact on me.
I also find them a little easier to write than say Korra or Kara. I think it's because I tend toward the sciences myself. (My humor is more Kara, and I'm a very silly person like Korra, but otherwise, my approach to life is very, very much Asami Sato. Heck, my therapist and I talk about the "evidence" of whether my intrusive thoughts are correct or not. So then we go and examine the evidence, lay out the facts, and prove or disprove the intrusive thought. Usually disprove if I'm being honest. That's very much an Asami and Lena way of approaching mental health). So yes, in a way, I love them because I relate to them so much. But I also love them for the depths hidden in their characters.
This is something I've noticed in a lot of things I watch and read. Whichever character is more the scientist/thinker of the couple/group, that's the one that often ends up being my favorite. (Unless this person is a cisgender straight man, then I just get bored and stop watching/reading, but eh, I admit to my faults. I prefer reading/watching woman - cis or trans - being awesome.)
Anyway, I've rambled enough about that. lol
Thank you for asking and I hope you enjoyed this!
