My default assumption whenever I see people pitching fits about how characters or ships or the color of the wallpaper or whatever else they don't like must be evil, is that they are a teenager.

They are a teenager who has never used anything other than an algorithmic feed on a social media app to find fannish content, they don't even know where the settings page is, and they're having a real bad time. They have to get up early in the morning, school is awful, all their clique-y peers have been mean to them about their weight, their teachers are impatient, they just got seven hours of homework and their last class was gym. And they are eternally frightened that they're secretly a bad person and their only current recourse against this is to be like, at least I know that pineapple on pizza is a sin.

Approaching things from this angle has never steered me wrong. Even when the person in question is not literally a teenager, they're still pretty much letting their inner kid drive the bus right now.

"A four year age gap is abusive!" okay champ. Screen time's up. Let's get you a protein shake and a nap.

not to cornplate or anything but the difference in camera angles here goes so crazy

the camera looking slightly up to abbot emphasizes the view, not the world below. when we meet him, he’s contemplating his own purpose and can’t remember why he’s doing this job, which would be alarming except for the camera is behind the fence with robby and the roof takes up half the lower frame. we the audience are on safe and solid ground, which assures us that he’s not necessarily looking to jump down. abbot’s not even looking down, he’s simply looking around.

robby on the other hand: it’s nighttime and he’s in complete emotional crisis, for context. we’re looking down at him from his side of the fence and the frame includes both his position and and what’s down below the ledge as if getting us to consider the jump with him. he’s looking down as if it’s a legitimate option, and we the audience are placed on that ledge with him in that precarious spot.

and this us also reflective of their characters because they’re both attendings and the difference between the night/day shift sets them up to be character foils and these parallels reflect that perfectly. jack was never going to do it that morning; he has a therapist, he’s managing better, he loves the job too much to ever leave it (he says it’s in his DNA). robby’s entire arc and point of criticism from others is that he’s not doing that work to take care of himself, he doesn’t practice what he preaches, and when his repressed emotions have finally boiled over and he’s blown his gasket, he genuinely considers ending it.

Like she didn’t initially agree with McKay when she said Harrison should play with someone closer to his age, because Javadi doesn’t even feel 20 at all. She doesn’t know how to be the pre-teen that asked her mother for a pet, let alone a cool sister that sneak out at midnight or something. But she doesn’t bail out, because she’s not going to make a bad impression in front of Matteo’s little friend there. And after all that they went through after Pittfest, what’s a Sunday with a 12 years old.

But then, for the first time in her life, she’s eating oily pizzas without worrying about arteries blockage, and she’s running after Harrison in the rain without thinking about the likelihood of being sick before a state exam. Intentionally or not, nights after nights, Cassie and Harrison gave Victoria back the childhood she deserves.

Suddenly, dinner at the table talking about recent medical studies became unbecoming, too sterile, too stilted for her. But how can student Dr Javadi tells renowned Dr Shamsi that dinner should be on the coffee-stained carpeted floor, and that dinner should be about the HMMCMC discussion, aka “how many marshmallows can Matteo catch?”

okay but javadi and mckay are so important. mckay is exactly what dr. shamsi doesn’t want javadi to be, but she’s also the woman the javadi finds comfort in during her shift. javadi gets more confident because she’s being watched over by mckay.

like imagine her actually babysitting harrison. the only hard rule is that harrison can’t do anything stupid enough to end up in the hospital but other than that, “there’s a 20 on the counter for a pizza, knock yourselves out.” in comparison to victoria’s mom not even trusting her enough to watch her cousins at family gatherings.

mckay trusts in victoria’s intelligence and it’s that trust that allows her to teach and guide her. i want them to have a cute sisterly relationship

I don’t know if somebody has already talk about this but Robby tried and failed at the start to get Collins’ attention. He only succeeded in (temporarily) pacifying Collins’ annoyance in the earlier episode by letting her take charge in a procedure. Basically him taking the ultra sound from her hand and let her do the main aspirating. Aka It’s Robby being pathetically in love.

Guess who else also let a resident take charge in an operation to show that he is too, desperate and down bad? (Albeit a much more dangerous procedure because they’re in their early days of courting 😅)

Somebody tell our two old white guys/ER cowboys to stop sharing their “how to flirt” manual on the roof.

(And where can I find it because they’re literally scoring the two most gorgeous women in the ER??)

Oh my god it’s Captain Anderson and Jack Abbot. This might not make sense if y’all didn’t watch both the rookie and the Pitt. But when I fell in love with Captain Anderson last year, I remembered searching her up and watching this scene. And now I’m watching it again but in love with the other person. I don’t know how to explain this insanity that is coursing through my vein right now 😂
