Black folks had a beef with Budweiser, too—exactly 40 years ago—but a deal was cut, and all was good.
Black folks had a beef with Budweiser, too—exactly 40 years ago—but a deal was cut, and all was good! #BudLight #Protest #BlackHistory #1983 #Budweiser #DylanMulvaney
(April 24, 2023).  At a time when we were pushing—with Stevie Wonder among those leading the charge—to have Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday recognized as a national holiday, and when Michael Jackson’s label was “negotiating” to get his videos played on mostly white MTV, there was another prominent social issue that Black folks in the music industry were dealing with, one that came to a head…

Thoughts on Superfest approximately halfway through
So I'm attending the virtual edition of the Superfest Disability Film Festival 2023 and because I missed the online discussion with other attendees because I thought it was tomorrow, I'm just gonna shout my thoughts into the void here on Tumblr instead.
So far the films I have watched are (there are about 5-7 other films/shorts I haven't watched yet, at least one longer-form/feature length):
Abi Palmer Invents the Weather (Light) (documentary/experimental short)
As You Are (dramatic short)*
Chronic (dramatic short)
Culicidae (dramatic short)*
Invisible World (experimental short)
Me If I Were A Woman (dramatic short)*
Of Kisses and Capes (dramatic short)
(Un)fit to Work (experimental short)
Uonted! (dramatic short)
Whose Voice Is It Anyway (mockumentary short)*
(I've asterisked ones that won some sort of festival award.)
And TBH they've all been fantastic?
I started with (Un)fit to Work and I feel like it really set the tone for the kind of day I was gonna have because it was just a very... weird short. XD
The films have run the full gamut from comedy to drama, satire to played-straight serious, stressful to fluff. Some did both in the same film!
Four I really really enjoyed (because I can't narrow it down further in my head) were As You Are, Me If I Were A Woman, Uonted!, and Whose Voice Is It Anyway. (The judges also seem to feel the same way, considering Whose Voice won Jury's Choice, Me If I Were A Woman won the Disability Justice Award, and As You Are was Best of Festival.)
Uonted and Whose Voice were comedic/satire in the best way, genuinely laughed at the twists and turns. I was yelling at my screen at one of the characters' (awful, terrible, I hate it) decisions and comments in Me If I Were A Woman.
And As You Are was just... nice. In all the best ways. It was immediately clear even before I had gotten more than a few minutes into it why it nabbed Best of Festival. It's good.
I highly recommend all of these films, and they're available at the festival right now if you have the time to kick back and watch movies this weekend! I'm pretty sure it's still possible to get a pass and start viewing the films all the way until end-of-day tomorrow (once started, the event site lets you watch for the next four days from whenever you start, IIRC). (There's one more in-person day in San Francisco at the Asian Art Museum and there appear to still be passes (30 or less now) available for it, too, if you're in the area and into that sort of thing. Passes are a pay-what-you-can model so it's possible to watch the films for free because they think it's more important the films be seen. Money helps offset costs, though.) This is not an ad for the festival, I swear.
I enjoyed these films and I think you should, too! The site I linked at the top of the post has all the details (film lineup, schedules, pass links, content warnings, etc.) if you're at all interested!
...I don't know how to end this post! XD

So I have this weird childhood memory of my mother calling me into the kitchen where my dad then proceeded to throw small glass bowls on the floor, who didn't break, and explained how great they were and that they can't break
And I... never knew if that was a real memory or just some weird brain fart
It might be real
And I find that out thanks to NileBlue

Looking up Superfest, I landed on Wikipedia and YES, we definitely had glasses that looked like that!! I absolutely remember that logo!

Okay, it's kinda late for me to be awake and mentally functioning, but i just got a 10/10 best good idea. So, with my teeth project going so well and making the teeth bigger (and hopefully at least a bit stronger), i just got thinking about the effect of using an excess of calcium or an excess of phosphorus. I'm actually still not sure what effect those changes would have at all except maybe promoting different calcium phosphates (eg. Ca3(PO4)2 vs Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) though those phases are mostly controlled by pH (i think, but i'm not really thinking well right now). But anyway, so, if you remember superfest glass as was made in east germany (the glass that was so hard that it broke your floor before it broke), you should know that the way it achieved that very high hardness was through ion exchange. They formed the glass into shape as pretty normal glass with a fair amount of sodium in it (as is normal) but then they sprayed the glass with a fair amount of molten potassium chloride (iirc) which can allow a potassium ion to swap in for a sodium ion which ends up putting a ton of stress on the outside of the glass in such a way that it makes the material very resistant to breaking. That was probably explained very badly. Anyway, so, what if you did a similar thing with the teeth? Like, i know that amorphous silica with alkali ions isn't exactly the same as teeth which are formed of a ton of perfectly askew very tiny crystals of calcium phosphate, but still. While it may not actually be the same principle in this case, bones with a higher amount of strontium replacing calcium have been noted to have significantly higher strength, which at least to me indicates that it may be due to causing these beneficial internal stresses. All this to say that while i think it may be a decent idea, strontium is expensive, there's very very few ions that i could replace the phosphate with (maybe sulphate? i can't find good info on the ionic radii of either PO4 or SO4) so unless i swap a calcium with 2 Na+ or K+, all my remaining options are either organic nightmares or extraordinarily toxic (and probably radioactive too!). Right before i went to post this i thought maybe swapping out the calcium for a smaller ion might also do the trick? IDK if that's true. Probably not, there's probably something about how it impacts the forces or something, but maybe. And if replacing the ions with smaller ones helps, then i vote for iron because it's super cheap and small and pretty safe
