Every part of Lena Luthor’s soul was screaming at her do not do this.
Yet there Kara Danvers
(Kara Zor-El, last daughter of the house of El, LIAR.)
stood, bedraggled and tear-tracked, hunched in Lena’s doorway like a tiny kitten begging her for food. Lena wondered how she did it, how she made herself so small and unassuming, pathetic even. It was more than a change of clothes and hair and ripping off her glasses. She truly changed, somehow.
Changed to deceive. Changed to mock, changed to take without giving, to make Lena a fool.
(it was a cruel thought, a green thought, a Lex thought)
“I’ve told you already, Kara. I don’t want you here. You’re a liar, you and all your little friends mocked me to my face and kept secrets behind my back.”
“It wasn’t like that.”
“I don’t believe you.”
That relentless sad puppy look of hers softened even further.
“Why?”
God above how Lena hated her. Hated her for daring to ask. Fuck you, that’s why.
(nothing hurts more than a question that has no answer)
“I hate you, that’s why.”
Kara swallowed hard, wringing her hands. She was dressed in her pajamas and had probably flown here, then landed and asked to come up like a normal person. Didn’t she see that was the problem?
“I don’t believe you.”
Lena threw up her hands. “Oh fuck off with that, Kara. You lost your favorite toy, get over it. I’m done with you. I moved on, you should too.”
“You let me in. I’ve seen the real you. You’re not vindictive. You’re not cruel. You’re a kind-hearted, selfless, compassionate person.”
“And you didn’t,” Lena snapped, moving to close the door. “You deceived me in the most fundamental way. You made me believe you cared for me and believed in me and saw the good in me. No one sees the fucking good in me, no one. No one did but you… and it was all a trick to keep an eye on the Luthor.”
“No, no, I didn’t-“
“You didn’t? Then why did you get James to spy on me? Why’d you question my motives? Why’d you keep lying to me after I proved myself over and over and over again? Because I was never good enough. It was never real.”
Kara rubbed her arms. “Do you really think I brought you into my circle of friends and held you in when you were sad and brought you to Thanksgiving and let you sleep over in my home to keep an eye on you?”
There was a heavy pause.
“That’s fucking insane,” Kara snarled.
Taken aback, Lena flinched, half at the profanity and half at the anger in Kara’s voice.
“I admit it,” her voice broke suddenly, “I can’t deny it. I can’t just dismiss how you feel, I get that, but I didn’t keep my secret from you because you were some kind of a project, Lena. I kept my secret because keeping it let me keep you. It was selfishness, pure and simple. I wanted my one friend who didn’t see me as a superhero. I wanted… I wanted what I always want, things I cannot have.”
There was such agony in her voice that it cut through Lena’s growing fury like a blade sinking into clay, stuck fast, hot in her chest.
“I knew I’d lose you to it eventually. I didn’t do it for you. I did it for me.”
Lena blinked a few times, feeling her resolve start to shake.
(another manipulation. she will do anything, say anything to get back in your good graces)
(to do what, Lex? to what end?)
“Say what you came here to say.”
“I kind of did, but I have one more thing to ask.”
“Then ask it.”
Kara swallowed. “I want to pretend.”
Lena’s brow arched.
“Pretend what?”
“Just pretend it’s like it was. For one night. Just give me one more night and I promise you I will never bother you again. You’ll never see me or Supergirl for the rest of your life.”
“You’re on TV every day.”
“I meant in person.”
“And stop talking about yourself like you’re two different people.”
Kara sniffed.
“Okay,” she muttered.
Lena stood there for what felt like an eternity, screaming at herself not to do this.
(do it, it’ll make it hurt more)
(me or her?)
Lena stepped aside.
Kara entered. She brushed at her eyes, adjusted her glasses, and walked into Lena’s expansive, cold, dark penthouse.
As soon as she did, it was as if the light came back. It felt warm again, seeing her standing there. Having her here, in her cute little pajamas with her braid over one shoulder, those big eyes open and hopeful.
Lena closed the door.
“What do… what do you want me to do? Us to do?”
“We could watch a movie, maybe get Chinese delivered. Have you eaten? I doubt you’ve eaten.”
Lena hadn’t, actually. She hadn’t eaten today and had eaten only scraps yesterday and only because Jess insisted.
Kara touched Lena’s side, a soft brush of fingers over her ribs, and winced.
“You’re starving yourself,” she murmured. “Oh, Lena.”
“Kara-“
She already had her phone out and was ordering. Of course Kara had Lena’s place still saved in DoorDash.
Lena grabbed her hand to stop her.
“My treat.”
Lena fetched her own phone and put in a quick order- of course she had all of Kara’s favorites saved and of course she almost sent them to Kara’s address instead of her own.
“I ordered.”
Lena looked down at herself, wondering why the hell she was doing this. She was still dressed for the lab, so she retreated to her bedroom.
When she opened the closet her eyes immediately went to the maroon Midvale High School sweatshirt hanging at the far end of the rack, where it had been defying her for months. She should have burned the god damn thing but every time she reached for it, her hand pulled back of its own accord.
Not today. She let it fall over her, oversized for her frame and too long, and changed from slacks to leggings and pumps to bare feet, her toes curling from the cold hardwood floors.
Kara had already taken up position on the couch and had put on one of her beloved movies, one they’d already watched together ten times and Kara had probably already seen ten times more. The Princess Bride.
It was a cheap ploy and Lena knew it.
It gouged at her anyway, leaving something raw in her chest. It ripped open every place she’d forced to herself to scab over, broke every stitch. She killed the lights, halfway out of tradition and halfway to make sure Kara didn’t see her fighting back the tears.
Neither of them spoke. They sat on opposite ends of of the couch. When the food arrived, Kara got up to get it from the driver and her absence was keen, the void she left behind ripping at Lena.
When she sat down again right next to her, Lena let her. She shoved a box of take out into Lena’s lap and insisted she eat. They ate in silence.
Kara’s heart wasn’t in it. She are aimlessly rather than shoving her food in her mouth and gobbling it all down in minutes as she usually did. She was pretending, hard.
Lena barely paid any attention to the movie. The food, normally seasoned and spiced to the point where she couldn’t stand it and ate only to please Kara, was bland and tasteless in her mouth.
Kara, haltingly and hesitantly, put her head on Lena’s shoulder, and winced when Lena’s shoulders hitched. Why the fuck was she doing this to herself?
The worst part was that it didn’t hurt. It felt like home. Even now after all she had done and all that Kara had done and said, feeling Kara’s sadness in her soft weight beside her was ripping her apart, the mad anger and rage swept aside by a torrent of grief she couldn’t hold back.
If she was going to pretend she might as well pretend. She put her arm around Kara and leaned into her, nuzzling her nose into Kara’s soft hair, wondering if her alleged best friend ever noticed that Lena’s favorite thing in the entire stupid fucked up world was a Kara Danvers hug and nothing was more precious to her than these times when she almost kissed the crown of Kara’s head.
How she ached.
The movie ended and Netflix began making suggestions.
“Kara,” Lena murmured. “Let’s go to sleep.”
“If we go to sleep the night will be over,” her voice was small, trembling.”
“I know, darling. Just let it be what it is.”
Kara nodded.
Lena’s pulse was pounding as she headed for the bedroom, wondering how Kara had never picked up on how decidedly unplatonic it was to fall asleep in each other’s arms. Neither spoke as they climbed into Lena’s California King, a bed big enough to drown in, sinking beneath a goose down comforter, Kara’s body heat like old coals from a campfire.
For a moment they lay apart, and then slowly came together in their usual way, Kara forming herself into a protective cocoon to shield Lena from… from everything. Morgan Edge, her brother, alien shotgun weddings, random nuts with a gun and a grudge, everything but the greatest threat, her worst enemy.
“I have to go in the morning,” Kara whispered, “so I better say this now. You are not a monster, Lena. I never wanted to ‘keep an eye on you’ other than to protect you and keep you safe. No matter what you do, I will never, ever give up believing in you, but if you want me gone, that’s what I have to do. I love you so much it hurts me. I can’t stand being apart from you but if that’s what you need from me that’s what I’ll give. I would do anything for you. If moving on is what you want…”
Kara took a ragged breath.
“As you wish.”
Lena felt something crack inside her. An image filled her mind: Kara. Kara with graying hair, walking away, walking off into the sunset like the hero she was, and with someone else… with a child between them, a future, a home…
“God damn you, Kara Danvers!” Lena snapped, shocked at the sound of her own voice. “God damn you for making me feel this way! Do you have any idea what you did to me? I can’t just turn it off, I can’t stop feeling.”
“This was a terrible idea,” Kara sighed. “I should have known better. I’m just hurting you more.”
Kara began pulling away.
Lena threw out her arms, locked her hands behind the neck of the most powerful being on the entire planet, and yanked. Hard.
Their lips came together in a crash. The force was all Lena’s, as Kara’s inhuman might yielded to her control. There were no words. Kara hesitated for a shocked moment before she kissed Lena back, looping her arms around Lena’s waist.
This was no stolen glance, no innuendo, no coy hint. When Lena kissed Kara she made as if to devour her, and was mounting her before she realized she was doing it. Kara yielded, she always yielded even when Lena pinned her wrists to the mattress and clamped her legs around Kara’s hips and ground on her like a horny teenager.
She kept expecting Kara to sputter, to push back… to be fucking straight, to be brutally honest about her intentions, but there was nothing straight in the way Kara shifted to grind against her, or the way she twisted her hands free and slid them under the soft Midvale High Sweatshirt and skimmed them over the bare skin of Lena’s back. There was no mistaking the intent of her kisses or the feral sound she made when the shedding of clothing began.
Lena must have shocked her at first, because when Kara recovered, she became a force of nature. Lena was quickly on her back and let out an excited yelp when Kara simply tore her leggings apart and bared her with a feral grin on her face before shedding her top with the same desperate energy.
When they came together, really came together, Lena was nearly overwhelmed. Kara was insatiable, relentless. Hokey cliches like “force of nature” were woefully inadequate.
She never ran out of stamina and she was gentle when needed and forceful when Lena wanted it, every stoke and motion and caress somehow perfect, and she sensed without needing to be told when Lena was ready to give rather than receive and yielded without a word.
They barely even had to talk, and when Lena was finally exhausted, Kara was there with kind touches and soft words and cared for her like the most precious thing in the world.
Lena fell asleep, deeply and soundly, and when she woke up with the sun on her skin and an empty bed she wondered if it was all an elaborate dream until she heard Kara humming halfway across the penthouse, grabbed the sweatshirt, and padded barefoot from the bedroom.
Kara was at the stove cooking breakfast and holding a spatula like a microphone, singing… a fucking Britney Spears song.
“I thought you were going to leave in the morning,” Lena sighed.
Kara froze.
“I’m glad you didn’t. I’d have to come get you.”
Kara turned to her with a billion watt smile.
“I was lying about leaving you alone.”
Lena walked over, arms around her waist, hugging herself. She cupped Lena’s chin with a hooked finger and the casual intimacy of it made Lena’s heart swell.
“I love you so much. I can’t breathe without you,” Kara whispered.
Lena took Kara’s wrist and guided her hand to cup her cheek, nuzzling against the soft skin of Kara’s palm.
“Stay?”
Kara nodded.

“I left cookies in the kitchen,” Nia said, walking into the main room of the Tower. Lena and Alex - who had been lounging on the couches - turned towards her. “Kara was in there, you guys may want to get some before she finishes them.”
“What type of cookies?” Alex said.
“Chocolate chip,” Nia said. “I was keeping it simple, trying out a new type of flour.”
“What type of flour?” Lena asked.
“Walnut,” Nia said, “It adds a bit of savory fla-”
But Nia cut herself off, noticing Alex half-jumping off the couch. “Walnuts?” Alex said, “Oh shit-”
Nia turned as Alex ran past her, glancing back to Lena who seemed just as confused as she was. The two followed Alex to the kitchen. “Hey Kara, don’t eat tho- Kara?”
The three entered the kitchen - but Kara wasn’t in it. The pile of cookies sat undisturbed, aside from three or so clearly missing from the top of the pile. “Oh no,” Alex said.
“What is it?” Nia asked worriedly. “Is she allergic?”
“No, it-”
“Wait,” Lena said, quieting the other two as she listened.
Slowly, she tilted her head up to the ceiling.
There Kara was, floating upside-down, hands clasped over her mouth in a failed attempt to stifle her laughter. “You should’ve seen the looks on your faces!” she exclaimed, her speech a touch slurred as Alex placed her palm to her forehead.
--- “So she’s… drunk,” Lena said, sparing a glance to her best friend before looking for traffic on the dark street.
“More like high,” Alex said.
“I am so sorry,” Nia said, “I’ll try the pecan flour next time.”
The three struggled to shuffle Kara towards Lena’s condo - the closest place she could stay. Power dampeners adorned her wrists as she giggled hysterically, the trio exasperated as they nudged her across another street. “How long will it take to wear off?” Lena asked.
“She should be fine by morning,” Alex grumbled. “Thanks for taking her.”
“LOOK at the MOON!” Kara said, before bursting into laughter.
---
Luckily, Kara was docile for someone high on walnuts.
The only incident had been the blonde giggling like mad over the lamps fixed to Lena’s ceiling, only to pout that she couldn’t float up to them. But Lena promised her that she’d be allowed to in the morning, which seemed to soothe Kara, and they both prepared for bed.
The kryptonian hadn’t seemed to mind the suggestion that they sleep in the same bed, for which Lena was grateful, not wanting to spend a night on the couch. Lena tried to ignore the hammering of her heart as she went about her normal routine, washing her face and brushing her teeth as Kara watched her with careful, warm eyes. “I wish you saw yourself how I see you,” Kara said quietly, her words still a bit slurred as Lena slipped into bed.
Lena sighed, curling up on the bed next to the blonde, pulling her blanket over their bodies. If her breath hitched with Kara’s warmth, Kara didn’t notice. “How do you see me?” Lena responded.
“Strong. Beautiful. Always trying to do the right thing,” Kara murmured sleepily, arms starting to wrap around Lena’s body as she nuzzled into her neck. “I really want to kiss you.”
Lena’s heart skipped a beat. Kiss me?
“Maybe someday I’ll tell you,” Kara breathed into her neck, before letting herself fall back slightly to sink into the bed, her eyes closing as she relaxed her grip, “That would be nice.”
Lena’s mind scrambled for what to say, and then she heard the kryptonian softly snoring.
---
Coffee.
Lena opened her bleary eyes, smelling the pleasant aroma of espresso. She noted the empty space in her bed, before throwing her blankets off, shuffling to her kitchen to find a pile of Irish scones and a very sheepish kryptonian. “Sorry for last night,” Kara said.
Lena could feel a flush creep on her cheeks as she took the coffee Kara offered across the table. “How much do you remember?” she asked.
“Almost none of it,” Kara confessed. “I just know I get really loopy on walnuts.”
Lena’s heart was already hammering as she sipped her drink, and she knew that was confusing to Kara. For a moment, she considered letting the whole thing go, but… dammit, I need answers. “Do you want to kiss me?” Lena asked.
Kara blinked back. “Is that… an offer?”
“No,” Lena said. “Well, yes?
“Um,” Kara said, shifting on her feet. “Which is it?”
“Yes,” Lena said firmly.
“Oh.”
Kara stared for a moment as Lena’s heart continued hammering in her chest, before finally stepping forward, cautiously making her way towards Lena as though she couldn’t quite believe what was happening. Lena swallowed nervously as Kara’s hand softly cupped her face. “So I did say something last night,” Kara murmured.
“I’m glad you did,” Lena murmured, a little breathless as Kara shyly smiled back.
Lena tilted her head, feeling the warmth of Kara’s body as she pressed in, feeling the tingling of breath against her lips. Lena wrapped her arms around Kara’s waist as Kara leaned closer.
And there was one last thought - thank god for walnuts - before Lena learned the taste of Kara’s lips.

Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3
Kara burned a pretty little hole right through her pasta. And the plate. And the floor...
She twirled around with fork lifted like a sword. Which is entirely the fault of her teen-self obsession with knight literature. Because fork? Really? She can just blast intruder to space.
"Sorry, sorry, I didn't want to scare you", woman smiled sheepishly, holding her hands up. "But I'm still not used to you being able to see me".
"Who are you and how were you able to get there?" Kara paused, tilting her head to the side. "What do you mean by 'being able to see you'?"
"Oh, I'm a ghost!" Woman said way too cheerfully. "And before no one saw me, so I was surprised too".
Kara considered it to be elaborated prank of their friend group. But the woman really didn't have a heartbeat, and wasn't visible through x-ray vision.
"I don't exactly believe that you are a ghost", Kara lowered the fork, thinking how is she going to contact Alex.
Woman lifted her neat brow and then stepped right in the middle of Kara's coffee table. And not on the table, in the table.
"Well, it's not very convincing either. I know creatures that can do that too", it was convincing, but still.
"Well, I know I was human, and now no one can see me and I can go through objects. I'm pretty sure I'm a ghost."
Woman's voice was a bit bitter, but she still smilled.
"What is your name then?" Kara sighed, lowering her weapon on the counter. It's not like she believed her, just curious.
Woman's smile dropped, and she looked pained and sad. And then she vanished right in front of Kara's eyes.
/ / / / / / /
Next evening Kara was cooking, thinking about her apartment's ghost. She didn't tell Alex about the second encounter yet, because well, it's not like anything happened.
But still, the woman looked hurt by her question yesterday, which left the bitter aftertaste in Kara's mouth. Was it a bad etiquette to ask ghosts for their names?
"You still didn't tell me how are you able to shoot lasers from your eyes".
Kara still jumped a little, but managed to stay silent. Woman was standing at the proper distance away, looking a bit shy.
"Oh, um, hi? I wanted to say sorry if I offended you yesterday." It was a bizzare situation but still. Kara didn't want to be rude.
"No-no, I'm sorry. I may be aware that I'm a ghost, but I still not exactly mastered this whole thing, not for the lack of trying, mind you", woman waved her hands, before tucking her raven hair behind ear. "So I accidentally dissapeared because I was upset. And I kinda just figured out how to return".
"Then sorry for upsetting you".
"No, you didn't know! I just... I can't remember my name, and it's frustrating".
Woman looked down, but then visibly shaked herself and smiled at Kara again.
"So how do you shoot your lasers?"
"Oh, you see, I'm kinda..." Kara trailed off, because opening her secret to stranger was difficult and frankly she still didn't now if she was actually a ghost.
"Supergirl, I know. More like I know our yellow sun gave you your powers, but your eyes didn't have any organs to produce lasers initially so how are you able to?"
Kara lamented the need to tell Alex that the ghost knows her secret and unable to sign the NDA.

I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say Kara and Lena are two sides of the same coin or shadow selves or something like that, but it is definitely interesting that they have so many parallels and similarities. Like they both have an inherent sense to do good outside of their families shadow (let that be a good shadow or bad), both come from tragic backgrounds that they are trying to mend, BOTH ARE TECHNICALLY PART OF A HOUSE OF L (I feel so normal about this fact), both really enjoy science, although the show likes to lie to us and say Kara’s dumb or doesn’t enjoy it and they even have the same fucking issue with abandonment, like hello why do they have the same fucking trauma?? I’m crying. like even the little things like liking the same band or liking the same flowers. There’s just something about all that that lets them understand each other and that’s so beautiful.

Lena knew her pulse was racing, but Kara was either pretending not to notice or too tired to care. They were curled together tightly under the blanket, Kara’s head resting on Lena’s chest, the pair of them curled into each other with a desperate intensity.
An outside observer would see no difference between the way that Nia was tucked and folded neatly into Brainy, his head lolling against hers as they slept on the other side of the couch. Nor would they see any discrepancy between the way Kelly and Alex were stuffed together in the armchair next to it, curled up in one another like a pair of cats tucked in against a cold night.
The outside observer would see three couples who’d begun with a game night and progressed to an unplanned movie marathon and started to crash out and fall asleep, full of wine and mirth and too tired to get home.
One couple wasn’t. One of these pairings was just friends, and the knowledge of it was like a ragged gaping hole in her chest, where something had crushed and torn through her and left a gap that would never be filled.
Lena was terrified.
Alex and Kelly were married now. Nia and Querl were getting very serious. They were going to start building lives.
Kara’s coming out had gone well. She was truly growing into herself in a way that frightened Lena as much as it warmed her heart. The Girl was growing to equal the Super, Kara becoming more and more herself even without the crutch that her suit provided. She was uninhibited, free.
In her secret heart, Lena hated it. In the end, Kara had been right, damn her. The Secret had meant something. They once had a space that was uniquely theirs, where Kara was a person only Lena knew, that not even Alex ever experienced. Yes, the Secret frequently intruded, but in those moments where it hadn’t, where their mutual pining to be normal met and they used it to build a space all their own, the real Kara came out.
That space had been shattered by their falling out but rebuilt stronger, its foundations laid the day that Kara came home from the hell outside the multiverse, the first brick laid when Kara had leaned in as Lena broke their hug and stared at Lena’s lips.
God damn me, Lena thought, why didn’t I make the move? Why didn’t I do it?
The moment was lost.
She looked down at Kara now, purring away on her chest. Kara had begun embracing her alien self, slowly stripping away all the ablative secrets that she’d layered onto herself to pass for human. Lena was delighted to discover that Kara could do that; that if she relaxed it would happen on its own. It made Lena contented and sleepy, especially when they were close in like this.
God, she was so beautiful. Lena had never laid eyes on Kara’s equal and never would, and when she walked tall and smiled and flashed her easy, invulnerable confidence, the sight of her was almost unbearable. Looking at Kara left marks on Lena’s heart the way that looking at the sun left burnt streaks in her vision.
Fear, cold and merciless, clenched in her chest. One day it would happen. Someone would succeed where James and William had failed and Mon-El had come so close. They’d snatch her away and Kara would throw herself into it with abandon and Lena would lose her.
Lena pressed her eyes shut to fight back tears. She willed herself not to mourn a loss before its time, to savor the soft weight propped on her chest and the tangy scent of Kara’s skin but she couldn’t help herself.
“Lena?” Kara whispered.
With all the guilt of a thief found red-handed, Lena froze, her mouth dry.
“What’s wrong?”
Lena glanced around the room. The others were all sleeping soundly, passed out in each others arms. Lena wondered what that was like, to sleep with the joyful comfort of assurance that they would not wake alone, that the others would stay.
“Nothing,” Lena lied.
Kara knew. In the dark, her blue eyes seemed to emit a faint light, another peculiarity of Kryptonian physiology that Lena honestly just hadn’t noticed before The Secret was revealed.
Kara turned slightly, shifted, and tucked the blanket in close, wrapped tightly round them. It was chilly in her loft and Kara was like a living furnace, warming Lena’s cold bones. When Kara slipped a hand free, her skin was fever hot on Lena’s cheek. She leaned into the touch, greedy for it.
“It’s okay,” Kara murmured. “Nobody’s gonna get you while I’m here.”
Lena smiled sadly. Kara knew about the night terrors, about her fears and how she sometimes hated the dark, because the barriers of their friendship, the walls that defined it, were so bent and strained that they’d never return to shape, even as they refused to yield.
“That’s not what I’m scared of. I’m scared of when someone gets you.”
Kara blinked.
“Sooner or later you won’t have as much time for your best friend. You’ll find someone else.”
“Why would I want someone else?” Kara said, almost too loud. “I want you.”
Oh God, that hurt so much. It made the frayed edges of that hole in her ache, at once raw and fresh and old and desiccated. She couldn’t go on like this. Why did Kara say things like that?”
“Were you going to kiss me the night we got you back?”
Kara flinched, and now she looked the thief.
They were both silent. Kara stared.
“I was scared to. We’d only just… I was afraid everything would break.”
Lena swallowed hard.
“Kara, what the hell are you waiting for?”
She blinked a few times more, a storm of emotions clouding her angelic features. She flushed, eyes wide, and was looking directly, openly at Lena’s lips.
She tasted like cherry lip balm and red wine. Kara’s kisses were like Kara herself, ardent and gentle in equal measure, the chaste softness of pressed lips smoldering with the same alien fire that burned under her lushly warm skin. Lena moaned softly, and that from little more than a soft peck on the lips.
She was an addict who’d just tasted the ambrosia of her dreams and her head was spinning. In an instant everything had changed, though Kara had barely moved. There was something new in the way Kara’s arms snaked around her. A slight shift and Kara touched her forehead to Lena’s before kissing her again, deeply this time. Lena let her eyes drift shut and savored it.
“I. Am not. Going. Anywhere.”
There was a heavy, almost oppressive silence. A sob of relief choked out of Lena and she hugged Kara fiercely, freely, joyfully free to crush herself against her unbreakable love.
“I mean,” Alex said, “you could move to the bedroom. I think we’d all prefer that.”
Lena almost jumped out of her skin. Kara let out an equally surprised yelp, as they both realized that everyone else was awake and watching them get lost in each other.
Lena cleared her throat. Kara sat up. She was beet red, and Lena was sure she was, too.
“Guys,” said Kara. “Get out.”

you mean 'beefy' isn't a normal adjective to describe women?
the moment i knew i was a supercorp fan fr was when i was explaining to a friend how my roommate (who is 6ft and can squat 300lbs) is 'beefy' so she obviously won the arm-wrestling competition that my other roommate mandated among all of us (except for me, bc i never let myself be coerced into anything) and my friend just goes
"...'beefy?'"
"yeah, you know, she's..." *shoulders back, arms down and flexed, wide stance*
"no i get it, but like who even says that"

“L-Lex what are you doing?”
Lena’s green eyes darted nervously around the sterile white concrete room she was in, taking in the bright lights, various medical machines.
“Isn’t it obvious Lena? I’m finally doing something I’ve aimed to accomplish for years but have always fallen just shy of doing, creating a life form that will finally give the Kryptonians a real challenge; and you, my dear little sister, are going to help me achieve that end.”

Kara had a guilty pleasure, one she didn’t share with anyone. It would have been awkward, and besides, everyone- friends, family, Lena; they all would have mocked her, relentlessly. It was the first of September and Kara was bracing herself for six months of the most exquisite torture.
She wasn’t expecting it on Lena’s desk.
When she walked into the office, the scent hit her. It tickled something in her brain and set her nerves alight, cascading shivers of excitement running down her limbs.
Kryptonians, you see, are not human. They are aliens, and react to things, to stimuli, in ways humans do not. The most obvious implication of this is Kryptonite, or rather the Kryptonite radiation it emits, which is unique to Kara’s lost homeworld and is deadly poisonous to her while being essentially harmless to humans without both significant and prolonged exposure.
There were, however, other things that Kara responded to differently. Certain flavors were too intense; some things her peers found pleasant were overwhelming or inexplicably bitter or otherwise unpalatable. Her enhanced hearing, even without her powers active, made her sensitive to noises that a human wouldn’t even notice. The list went on and on.
One thing in particular, though, was especially… stimulating to her. It got her motor going, as it were. Not like that, of course. Ironically it had the same effect on her that caffeine had on humans, even in small quantities.
There was something in pumpkin spice that excited Kara. Just not like that.
Okay, maybe a little like that. Even the scent of it made her feel things, and there was a steaming hot cup of it on Lena Luthor’s desk.
Kara had been summoned over some editorial matter of little consequence, probably an excuse to chat. When she stepped into her office, Kara stopped dead because Lena reached across her desk and picked up that cup and Kara was already having trouble.
Lena was… Lena. She was dressed in thigh high boots and black jeans and a tight, low cut green sweater that revealed a generous swell of cleavage that immediately drew Kara’s brazen eye. She caught herself looking and quickly put a stop to it, but Lena was looking right at her, smoldering green eyes peering at her over the rim of that damned coffee cup.
Great Rao, Lena was beautiful. Her hair was swept over one shoulder, baring the elegant column of her neck and her sharp jawline. Her visible ear carried multiple piercings dripping with diamonds and there was a faint pink tinge to her pale cheek. The red of her lipstick was almost violent and she positively smoldered. One might have thought she was dolled up for a photo shoot.
Kara was staring at those lips as she took a sip of coffee, leaving a faint white stain on the white cup.
Such a visual feast with the mere scent of the spices in her coffee was enough to weaken Kara’s knees and make her secretly fidget her toes inside her shoes. It was only a quick chat, a five minute conversation, but it was excruciating trying to get through it like this.
“Earth to Kara,” Lena sighed.
Kara blinked. “Okay.”
“Okay, you’ll go?”
“Where am I going?”
Lena rolled her eyes.
“Okay, Kara, you’re benched.”
“Wait, what?”
Lena huffed. “Look, it’s noble, going days without sleep while you live your double life, and we did agree that Supergirl duties will take precedence over your work here… but I can see you’re exhausted. I can’t order you to stop rescuing cats from trees and helping old ladies with their taxes, but I can order you to take the rest of the week off from working here. Which you are. Starting now.”
Actually, Lena probably could order her to stop doing things. Lena could probably order to do anything with the spicy tang in her nostrils and the quivering weakness in her limbs as heat gathered low in her belly. Kara was glad that she had just been ordered out.
“Oh,” Lena said, “and stop at Noonan’s on your way out. I hear the pumpkin spice lattes are your favorite and well,” she gave her cup a little shake.
Kara decided she would not stop at Noonan’s.
She stopped at Noonan’s. She got a PSL and a pumpkin spice bear claw and a dozen pumpkin spice donuts and consumed them all in the span of five minutes once she set foot inside her loft, after which she spent the next thirty in the shower thinking about Lena’s pillowy red lips and how kissable they were and her pale skin and how badly she wanted to mark it as hers and she sort of spent an hour in a pumpkin spice fueled fugue, and then passed out on her bed buck-ass naked.
Which was where she still was when the knock came at the door.
Her head shot up from the bed and she realized that it was movie night and she was hosting. She had no movies picked out, no snacks, and no clothes.
What she did have was super-speed, and this had a spread of frozen snacks ready to go in the oven, and a stack of blu-rays to be voted on, and pants. She needed pants and probably a bra and definitely a shirt. Humans were weird about their torsos. Fortunately Kryptonians were, too. Kara was rather lucky that she hadn’t landed on a planet that considered shirts obscene.
There were at least two like that, which isn’t a lot, but it was more than you’d think.
Kara opened the door and greeted Alex and Kelly, ushering them in. Brainy and Nia were next.
Lena showed up last, dressed in one of her peculiar movie night fits- a stylish leather jacket over honest to god fluffy pajamas, like a fashion plate going to a slumber party. Her hair was down and wavy and she looked soft and inviting and Kara wanted to snuggle her relentlessly and was very glad that the pumpkin spice was largely out of her system.
Largely.
Oh.
Lena lifted the two six packs she was carrying, giving Kara a suggestive arch of her eyebrow. Lena liked to bring gifts when Kara hosted, usually wine. Tonight she had twelve chilled bottles of… pumpkin spice beer.
Kara wanted to scream. Or possibly moan. Or possibly make Lena moan and maybe spank her a little.
Fuck!
“Hi-hi,” said Kara.
“Hi yourself,” said Lena. “Mind if I come in, or do you want to drink these right here?”
“C-come in,” said Kara.
“Eyyyyyy,” said Alex, as she saw the six packs. “The spice must flow!”
“The spice must flow,” Kelly repeated.
“Chai Hulud,” Nia said, in a faux-deep voice.
“I believe it is “Shai Hulud,” said Brainy.
“Sure, honey,” said Nia, patting his knee.
“You gonna hand those out?” said Alex.
“These are for our host,” said Lena. “Kara has plenty of spirits in her fridge.”
Alex busted out laughing, confusing the others.
Kara remained stone-faced.
Movie night then went on as normal. Everyone took seats, the first movie was voted on, snacks were enjoyed and beers were had. The pumpkin bottles sat in their cardboard holders in the fridge, untouched.
Until they got into the second movie, and Lena sauntered over from the kitchen carrying two bottles, and thrust one into Kara’s hands as she wedged herself in between Kara and Nia, casually tossing her legs over Kara’s lap.
Kara steadfastly did not look. She would not look. She would not look. Surely Lena was just making herself comfortable and private hadn’t noticed that the top couple of buttons on her pajama top had popped themselves and she was showing quite a generous amount of…
Kara looked away sharply. She had looked.
“Do the thing, darling,” said Lena.
“Do the thing! Do the thing! Do they thing!” Nia began to chant.
Sighing, Kara took her bottle and Lena’s, and popped the caps loose with a flock of her thumbs. Lena squealed in delight and Kara realized that actually drinking this concoction was an amazingly terrible idea.
Especially since Lena was basically in her lap now.
Kara tried not to drink, but the hint of that spicy scent from the beer was enough to make every nerve ending tingle and start a fire in her belly. She took a long pull on it and quickly realized she’d drained the bottle in one go.
Lena, grinning, stood up. Kara watched every sway of her hips as she marched to the kitchen, bent to grab another bottle from the bottom shelf of the fridge, and sashayed back to shamelessly plop right in Kara’s lap and offer her the new bottle.
The little display has gotten at least Alex’s attention, and she looked somehow at once horrified and amused and whispered to Kelly, who snorted.
Nia picked up on it next, after Kara had downed her fourth one of the cured pumpkin brews and her brain was sloshing around in sweet cinnamony goodness.
She was running into a considerable problem. Lena was curled up in her lap, draped across her in fact, a soft weight that was driving her absolute insane even as the scent of Lena’s… of Lena mingled with the spices singing in her veins. She forgot the movie. She forgot the existence of everything but Lena, and barely noticed when Alex announced,
“Guys, it’s late. I think we better head out so that Kara and Lena can clean up.”
“Perhaps we should help,” Brainy suggested.
“Nah, let’s go,” said Nia, who then muttered, “seriously Querl we need to go.”
Kara blinked and watched them all pile out, Alex shooting Lena a knowing look before rolling her eyes and closing the door.
Two seconds after the door closed, Lena twisted languidly in Kara’s lap, and was now no longer sitting in her lap but straddling her.
Kryptonians, you see, are not human. They are aliens, and react to things, to stimuli, in ways humans do not. They also have anatomical structures that humans do not, something that was was currently causing Kara to blush furiously, because Lena was well… sitting on it.
“I can explain,” Kara squeaked.
The look Lena gave her would have been devastating, pumpkin spice or no pumpkin spice. Lena’s face filled her vision as Lena placed her hands on Kara’s sides and rolled her hips, dragging a groan out of her.
“Is that explanation going to include a hands on demonstration?” said Lena. “I may need a few rounds before I fully understand.”
Kara swallowed hard. “You mean… you w-want to…”
“Kara,” Lena sighed. “How is someone who’s been flirting with me for five years so bad at flirting?”
Kara stared at her.
“Just, um, to clarify, you’re flirting with me, right?”
“I’m sitting in your lap unbuttoning my top, darling. I believe that qualifies.”
“You’re what?”
Lena grinned and swept her fingers down her chest, popping the rest of the buttons in sequence. The pajama top suddenly hung lose, baring the lush inner curves of her breasts while obscuring the rest of her in an agonizing promise.
Kara, finally, after years of this, took the hint and had Lena relieved of her fuzzy pajamas by the time they hit the bed.
The next morning, or rather next afternoon when Lena woke up, Kara looked over at her. Her eyes had just opened and she was grinning ear to ear.
“Lena?” said Kara.
“Yes? Before we go again I’m going to need a protein shake and some supplements.”
Kara felt her ears burning as her cheeks heated.
“Did you know about the pumpkin spice thing?”
“Pumpkin spice thing?” said Lena.
“Alex told you, right?”
Lena pursed her lips.
“Nope.”
“Cat Grant?”
“No, although I did ask her and she said you, and I quote, ‘creamed your khakis’ in front of her one time.”
“Then who?”
Lena grinned.
“I went to Clark to ask him the right way to go about seeking your attentions. Lois overheard and pulled me aside. Apparently you two share the same weaknesses.”
“My only weakness is you, baby.”
“Oh, it’s baby now, is it?”
“Yup,” said Kara.
