Leeteuk
Tumblr media
I don't know why, but I feel the need to express my pain towards the treatment that Leeteuk receives and has received from his SM and from the fake ELFs.
I've known him for 14 years, I think he is one of the leaders of the industry who have suffered the most.
He's always had a bumpy road, the time when Super Junior was created, it was a very dark time for Kpop, groups didn't get the support that many have today, and Leeteuk was a person who had to deal with a lot of dark days when he didn't see the sunlight.
During his life he has taken so many, many knocks, that to see his smile today is even magical, like a miracle.
Honestly…if you're new to kpop, if you're researching its history, if you don't know Suju except for little snippets that may appear on some SNS, don't speak freely, you know nothing, and your words are vain and hurtful out of ignorance.
If for some reason, you haven't had the education on how to be empathetic or how to be respectful, shut your mouth, because if on top of being ignorant you are rude, you only stand out as a nuisance in life.
So please, if you contact a member of a first or second generation kpop group, of whom you only know fragments of their history, don't give your opinion, your opinion is empty, unless you have had the consideration to sit down and dig into the person's history.
Leeteuk deserves respect, Suju deserves admiration and respect.
There is talk that many have paved the ground that newcomers walk on today, but in reality, it is the first and second generation idols who by giving their health and well being, paved a road that looks beautiful today.
A respect for all of them.

Inkigayo in Tokyo, Day1, part 2
I stopped on Doyoung's solo. Ateez were next.
It is important for a group to have its own colour. This way it can stand out and avoid rivalry with other groups by attracting their own audience (that won't be interested in others anyway) or by providing a change (for multistans). I remember Ateez' debut video with their pirate concept. And the MV with hats, of course. Can't say they continued the success of catching my attention with anything else.
Looking at their performance on this show, I can see the appeal for their fans (the group has "a vibe", certain members stand out). However, they still feel kind of middle level, like the groups from Kingdom. Maybe it's the lack of money and expensive choreographers. Maybe because of self-producing? (Do they do it?) To be honest, I can't really compare because I didn't see a lot of SuJu, but that's the group that came to mind. I don't know, the vibe of animators/idols from variety shows? They entertained but didn't command the stage. I know SuJu are kings of the stage, I compare with the colour of the way fans are entertained... if it makes sense.
Ateez got a bigger ovation after the first 2 songs than when they appeared (as there were more NCTzens than anyone else in the venue). The audience liked them.
Hm, Ateez are only 2 years younger than 127 as a group (debuted in 2018). There is a big difference in how they bear themselves on the stage though. Less like seasoned pros. And they did a lot of tours, as I understand. On the other hand, I guess it makes them more relateable and "approachable", more cozy for the fans.
Oh, it was not the smartest move for their main vocal to sing during their ment after Doyoung, heh. He did OK, but the difference in level was felt well. Non-fans weren't too impressed. Maybe the 3d, most challenging, song would be enough. Looks like it was his birthday, so he was given the spotlight by his group. Ateez left the most energising (and well known?) songs for the finale. They also brought out backdancers. Which was "loud party" smart. Still, you need to like the guys to give them some slack and enjoy the performance as that of friends and not professionals. The Japanese gg was more impressive in that regard for me personally.
Finally, the ending the show artist - NCT 127.
One thing SM does reeeally well is mixing music and preparing special entrance tracks for shows. 127 stepped on the stage like bosses for real, heh.
What SM isn't very good at is stage clothes. The brown outfits for this show were meh. Took points off the star appeal, made neos sweat too much (most took off the jackets in the end). Doyoung also had to re-pin the hems on both legs of his pants during the ment several times.
The swag was ON.
Award shows and music live shows are becoming pretty important, I think. With fans watching everything on YT, ignoring anyone who isn't their group of choice, only award shows allow for other groups to have a chance to show off themselves, for a viewer to make comparisons, decide be impressed or not. We are used to quality in NCT (even have the audacity to nitpick), but it becomes even more apparent when 127 performs side by side with others. Then you get comments like "I had the show on the background but then that one soloist started to sing and I had to tune in. What's his name?".
Plus, it is not hard to hide behind an MV or even a music show performance. Make up artists and directors with cameramen will do their magic. Being on the stage and projecting energy to a whole venue is different. Strong groups look even better, more impressive.
Heh, hyungs know better how to control their breathing than Wishies. 127 were not as out of breath during the ment.
The ment was, as usual for all groups, slow paced and not too entertaining, however neos were relaxed (which is attractive, reads as confidence) and were good at cheering each other, giving reactions and exclamations. Such small things make a ment livelier, at times funnier.
Used Inkigayo to advertise all their solos, fashion appearences and concerts, heh. Flex.
"Sunny road" didn't get into any of Japanese albums (as there has been zero since Awaken), it still found its place and role. It's not just a gift for Japanese fans, it also a good number for shows in Japan as well. It's very good mood inducing, upbit. And neos go around the stage to cheer everyone in the audience as well.
Doyoung didn't forget to leave final comments for the audience before the next song, like "if you know the words, sing along" and "it's karaoke section now, isn't it?". It really helped to make smooth transition, keep the contact with the audience. It's why fans say 127 turn award shows into 127 shows (it's not just their inner NCTzens talking in them), they really capture the attention of the venue.
It was funny, how on the backtrack Mark said "TY!" (here goes TY) and then rapped Tae's part, heh.
Three very energy-demanding songs in a row is impressive. And Jaehyun really takes care of his arms and sharpness of movements now. He didn't do Tae's swirly fingers when he was in the front of Kick It formation, heh. The motion was created and copyrighted by Taeyong.

Kpop title track ranking: Super Junior
In this series I’ll be ranking kpop groups/soloists title tracks based on my taste.
This time around I actually looked at the lyrics while deciding the order of these songs and it did sway me here and there, I have to admit. I also used this sorter to do most of the work: https://eastseaelfie.tumblr.com/SuJuTitleTrackSorter
A-CHA - For some reason this one has been the one for me for the longest time. Probably due to the incredible catchiness of it. It's a party and I'm here for it! And yes, the lyrics are about not-so-well-going relationship. But hey, the instrumental makes it a banger, so it's a party! xD
Black Suit - Another absolute banger! Only my nostalgia-driven love for A-CHA is keeping this one from going to the top.
It's You - Desperate love song done just right. It's so catchy. Classic for a reason.
SUPER Clap - Seriously, it's so catchy and so much fun! I HAD TO clap along, there was no other option. I had not given this enough credit before it seems.
Devil - I surprised myself with Devil ending up this high. But honestly it's just too catchy for me to deny that this is a fine place for it.
Don't Don - It's so edgy! xD But it just sounds so cool, I love it! xD
Mr. Simple - If this list relied only on lyrical merits of the songs this would probably be the best one. I have to admit it did not know the lyrics before this and wow it's really nice! Who would have thought! Also, it's catchy so xD
Mamacita - This list is just one catchy song after another. The flair that Mamacita has is just so nice and different.
SPY - It's so dumb, I know, I know. But you know what it also is? Catchy. Incredibly so, might I add. So, unsurprisingly, I really like it xD
Sorry Sorry - Iconic. Classic. And... You guessed it. Catchy. xD
U - Quite the basic love song at its core but very SuJu and very catchy as they tend to be.
This is Love - Pretty love song, for sure. I guess just my tendency to gravitate towards more upbeat songs let's this one down a little. There is also the fact that I would have wanted Evanesce to be the title track and get all the love it deserves. That may have some impact here too.
Bonamana - The floor sweeping dance xD Overall quite the ridiculous one, right? Very SuJu though.
Sexy, Free & Single - The terrible high-pitched sounds in the instrumental drop this one quite a bit for me. Again, very SuJu but not the best upbeat one of theirs.
Mango - I need to give it to SuJu for coming back with something that sound so SuJu again. Mango may not be the best SuJu song ever but it's still very distinguishably them. And I do respect that.
One More Time x REIK - The Latin music vibes are cool but also not personally something I go for most of the time. But I do have to say this is the clear winner of the two with this vibe.
Magic - A fine one but there is not too much else for me to say.
Lo Siento ft. Leslie Grace - All is said in the description for One More Time.
2YA2YAO! - This is so dividing for me. Something in it does make me think it works. But at the same time it just isn't SuJu-like at all. Very odd, very hard to rank.
Twins - Unlike Don't Don, that arguably is equally dated edgy-rock sounding song, this one has never really made me a fan. Listenable but not one I would actively go for.
Miracle - Cutesy but quite dated. But hey, better than being dated and uninteresting, am I right?
Celebrate - This was a title track? I completely missed it. Cutesy but very Christmassy so it's hard to put it a lot higher overall.
No Other - Very dated and not very interesting. Also, this one has no nostalgia points coming from me to make it go any higher.
House Party - It's so one-period-in-time-bound that it's actually hard to listen to now, tbh. Instrumentally and with any other average lyrics this would be way higher.
There clearly is a pattern in here: if a SuJu song is catchy there's a good chance that I'll like it. Lucky for them, most of their songs are catchy xD
Lastly, some B-sides that I love:
Evanesce - It's almost ridiculous how much I love this song. Without a doubt my favorite SuJu song. Probably one of my favorite songs of all time. That is not something I say lightly as I'm the type that can't answer the question "What is your favorite song?". Good Day For A Good Day - This one really does put me to a better mood instantly (or I'm unable to listen to it if I'm too down in the dumps because it's too cheerful). Shirt - This is such a fun one! (also catchy) Why I Like You - I quite recently did this grand SuJu discography marathon. This was one of those songs I picked up that day and oh was I correct doing so. I should listen to this more now! Shadow - Another one I picked up that day. A great one for sure.

Day 1: A song that got you into kpop
I fell in love with Siwon in late 2015 when She Was Pretty aired and Magic was suju's latest repack album at the time so 🤷🏻‍♀️ It's definitely not their worst song but in retrospect, We Can and Dorothy by KRY are much better tracks on that album.

I’m really intrigued about R 🤗
R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?
Kept forgetting to reply to this lol but
I think for fanfiction. The original original Inspirations were clix0 and mildiggy on the nick dot com avatar fanfiction message boards when I was 11 lmfao just with like the concept of fanfiction and what you could do with it
And then a lot of my early inspiration and writing style for when I first started writing suju fics and then the shines a few years later was inkin_brushes on livejournal like. The high school hanchul. bruh. The witness protection hanchul?? the kihae hot arms smut?? xmen au hanchul. A lot of hanchul lol. They really like gave me the realization that I could write gay little fanfics about my emotional support kpop boys and that they could be really good. And they introduced me to a lot of the little fanfictionisms and tropes and everything
And then I was shy for a while when I first started writing for the shines and didn't talk to anyone but then authors that I became brave enough to talk to like elle n squickz and bri and cely and wishyunew and all of them really helped me get a feel for just like. writing whatever self indulgent niche bullshit you want who cares lmfao
And for non fanfiction authors I think the first one I got like actual writing inspiration from was Kristen Cashore when I read Fire and I was like. I want to write books like this !!! with like cool women and disability representation and gay people and everything
A lot of my magic inspiration comes from tamora pierce in the way she does magic in her tortall books
My craving for fun and whimsy is at least in part from mr Bill Watterson. the Calvin and Hobbes guy. my beloved. Shel Silverstein also probably
And then more recently I read this book called Wilder Girls by Rory Power and boy howdy are those girls definitely wilder. Never read a book so Visceral. So I am about to start trying to go ham like her and in the same vein I just read Now Entering Adamsville by Francesca Zappia and I just really love the main character and how tough and no bullshit she is so much so that will probably start bleeding into my stuff soon lol. Same for Each Of Us A Desert by Mark Oshiro. The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuera. This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron. Just read all the Sailor Moon manga.
The running theme is I keep reading books about girls that are brutal and headstrong and devoted and compassionate and I'm kind of going feral about all of them
Did not mean to write an essay lol

B, C, L and T for the fanfic ask game, pretty please! ✨
Oh my gosh thank youu~ *v*
B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?
Rather not but i do put some personal motifs in the characters arcs. In "St. Elmo's Fire" it's asking for help/acknowledging needing help, in "Growing Pains" it's the anxiety about future and making the right choice and in "From the Shadows" I'd say it's the shame of the past failure.
C: What character do you identify with most?
Im projecting myself hard on Hyukjae in St. Elmo's Fire lol
L: What’s the weirdest AU you’ve ever come up with?
Not sure if it's weirdest, definitely very creative 😅 some suju members as children and some as adults, the children are getting magical gifts and the adults are kind of wizards who perfected their own gifts... Anyway, the vibe of the plot - moomintrolls! That's what i want it to have. I have no idea how to implement it. I'll think about it. ( If you have any idea of how i can do it let me know 😁)
T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?
Mpreg. I don't really get the ABO thing too...
