Kpop title track ranking: Golden Child
In this series I’ll be ranking kpop groups/soloists title tracks based on my taste.
I just went down this rabbit hole of trying to find one GolCha variety show appearance, as it had sat on my things-to-watch list for years, but I couldn't find it anymore. However, that sparked the idea of ranking their title tracks! They do have a bunch that I really like so I thought this would be a fun one. So, here we go!
Wannabe - I can fully admit that before this style change I just did not care for GolCha's music. But then this one came out and I FINALLY had to pay some proper attention to them. Wannabe is a proper banger and it still feels fresh now listening to it.
Burn It - This one is awesome! AND that music video! It should have been a movie or a drama! By a hair I have to give it to Wannabe as I have more nostalgia for it with the changing my mind about GolCha's music and all that. But I can't recommend enough to check out the music video, or the longer version of it, for Burn It!
Ra Pam Pam - Another very cool, movie worthy, music video here! Also, another great song that is hard to rank. Third place today but could easily switch spots with the two above it on another day.
Feel Me - The number 1 surprise for myself is here. I had listened to it before, multiple times in fact, trying to make up my mind on it without being able to do so. But now it clicked with me. It's a great song.
Without You - One that really is stylistically just meant for me to enjoy and I do.
One (Lucid Dream) - Basically this and Without You could be sharing the same spot. They come from very similar places and fill very similar spot for me. Very much my style and I enjoy it.
DamDaDi - Let's start by saying that this is not the type of song I often go for. However, when I am in a mood for a dumb fun song DamDaDi is definitely one of the best options. It really just is fun and for some reason it is the type of fun I find myself going to.
Pump It Up - The newest cutesy one from them. It is unarguably better than most of them but doesn't beat the original dumb fun xD
DDARA - I have to say I have probably only listened to this one once when it came out. It has bunch of potential but something in it leaves me hoping for something more. But I guess it also has potential to grow on me as it is.
Replay - Unexpectedly noisy one from GolCha and I think that's my problem with it. Again, possible grower but not really one that made me fall in love immediately when it came out or now listening to it after a while either.
Let Me - On the better end of the cute song spectrum but not one I would have ever really search out for.
It's U - It's quite the basic one. Not their best and not really for me.
Genie - Welp I did not remember this one being this underwhelming but here we are. I mean it's cute enough and it's not bad but just not interesting either.
Lady - This one confuses me. It's U was the title track of the album but this clearly also got promotions too? So, I decided to include it here. Unfortunately, not very interesting one to me, so maybe it would have better to not include it.
This time all the honorable mentions come from the same album, actually. Fanfare, Spell and Game (by Tag & Jibeom) are all from Game Changer and they all are worth checking out. And overall Game Changer is an album to check out as these are the stand out songs to me but I know that there was some hype over some of the other songs too. I started also going through their songs and it seems that I could possibly add some songs here later on when I have more permanent opinion on them.

dreamscape album thoughts bc i don't remember the last time i did a full review of an album since doyoung album
intro: dreamscape
i love the cutesy vibes <33 it's so very parallelism to icantfeelanything with the rushing and mixing of the vocals and songs, but in a contrasting vibe it's more uplifting rather than the dreariness of icantfeelanything. although
lowkey sounds like something that could come out of animal crossing idk
when i'm with you
THE HOUSE MUSIC IM LAUGHING SM ENTERTAINMENT WHY DO WE KEEP BRINGING HOUSE BACK
house isn't my favorite genre so i feel like it's a bit weak
but i'll definitely gaslight myself into liking the title track dw guys !!
flying kiss
tbh im glad they released this before the title track and album bc oh my god i would've taken no interest in it in comparison to the other songs. just like the title track rn i feel like the b-sides definitely are better than the tt track.
chat tell me it doesn't sound like blank space by taylor swift
TELL ME IT DOESNT
okay but for vibe wise i think the intro definitely makes me feel like im in that zen place in zootopia for some reason yknow with the yak and his meditation thing. anyways that sounds oddly specific but idk its very mystical meditation core idk
i hate fruits
THIS SONG IS SO FUNNY
but also very nct dream coded i love my 7dream <33
i have no poking thoughts i think its cute
no escape
my wife.
you can't have her she's mine
backbone pussy holding this album together

this sounds like the type of song that plays in the background when you're locked in on one of those cool math game puzzle games thats like minecraft music ominous but not there yet so like ur not freaked out but it's still getting on your nerves kinda slightly but you know you gotta lock in. im locked in.
YOU
oh now this is minecraft music
BUT THE JAZZ BREAK HELLO CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE JAZZ BREAK??
I LOVE IT WHEN WE USE JAZZ IN KPOP
heavenly

night poem
in my opinion one of the weaker songs on this album but it's cute <33
like no song on this album is bad obviously, i don't hate any of them, this one just kinda falls flat in comparison to them.
off the wall
i LOVE THE 70S DISCO FUNK VIBE

Post format inspired by Dulce @almostyours and JJ @chcrryade. Thank you to everyone who let me mention their OCs!
"I stopped my pace and wanted to shout. / Wings, spread out again! / Fly. Fly. Fly. Let me fly once more. / Let me fly just once more." — The Wings by Yi Sang, translated by Ahn Jung-hyo
깃털 (FEATHER) is the debut mixtape of INTAK, of fictional boy group FABLE. It was released digitally through streaming services and SoundCloud on August 16, 2024, seventy-nine years and one day after the liberation of Korea from Japan's colonial rule. Unlike his work as a member of Fable, he released it under his previous SoundCloud username WND3QUD, from the phrase 중3병 typed out on the Korean keyboard. Deriving from the somewhat derogatory Japanese term "chuunibyou," his recent usage of the name is meant to be an acknowledgement and greater understanding of the person he was at fourteen when he identified strongly with it. With the album's themes of the self and the meaning of money, it is also loosely inspired by Yi Sang's 1936 novel The Wings.
The record boasts an impressive array of features from other idol groups, surprising fans who were previously unaware that Intak "knew people like that." In line with Fable's concept and what Intak sees as his due diligence as member of the group, a few of the songs contain Fable's signature traditional instrumental sound. This was a decision that went over well with the majority of the group's fans. The vocal minority are a few Haksu solo stans, who realized that the teased solo debut of this year went to Intak, and not Haksu.
There was little promotion prior to the album's release, aside from a few social media posts with the title and release date, and one Weverse post from Andrew almost two months in advance spoiling the eventual release.

YOU SEARCHED FOR...
TRACK 001. 한국 (KOREA)
"@1:32 ik he was mad as hell in the recording studio. andrew count your days?" ─── A comment on the official music video, August 16, 2024
"Intak released his mixtape a couple of days ago and to say I'm obsessed is an understatement. For everyone else who missed their old sound, this is for you. KOREA is obviously the most Fable song of them all. Between the lyrics and the instrumental, the song posits Intak, Fable, and their music as representatives of Korea. I was under the impression that was their goal from the beginning. These past couple of years haven't shown that, but Intak is bringing it back." ─── 'Old Fable is back and I'm living for it' by bangchanslefttoe on r/kpopthoughts, August 18, 2024
"Ah… isn't it too much? How can he call the song KOREA and then release it under a Japanese name? He should know better. Really, it's disappointing. He said the album was inspired by Yi Sang too. Doesn't that just make it more embarrassing? F*ck I want Haksu's solo album instead." ─── '[enter-talk] WHAT CULTURE IS FABLE REPRESENTING, ANYWAY?' by pannchoa on pannchoa.com, August 19, 2024
TRACK 002. 꼴통 (BASTARD) ft. NOAH of DEEPDIVE @bluwavez
"[checking calendar] ya we still have time for BASTARD summer" ─── @kcdjification on Twitter, August 16, 2024
"I think BASTARD had a lot of potential. I wish there was a little more in the lyrics. One Yi Sang pun in this song and it's in Noah's verse? Come on, Intak, you're better than that." ─── A comment on the album's official discussion post on r/kpop, August 18, 2024
"I know Intak's 'Feather' flew under a lot of people's radars, but I tuned in. 7/10 if I'm being generous. My favorite song is definitely BASTARD. Is it because Noah is there? Um. No comment." ─── 'ranking every kpop comeback (august 2024),' shineesback on YouTube, September 1, 2024
TRACK 003. CASH
"just listened to CASH. close enough welcome back karl marx!" ─── @h4nd__dr4wn on Twitter, August 17, 2024
"What did I write? Nothing. This is Intak's solo album. He's always written our music. [pause] If he asked, I would have. If not, it's patronizing. If I wanted to release a solo album, would you expect Intak to write one of the songs? [pause] Rhetorical question. Let's listen to CASH." ─── Andrew via Weverse Live, August 17, 2024
"For my solo album, I want Andrew-hyung and Intak-hyung to both write it. They're both important to Fable, and I can't image what we'd be like without them." ─── Haksu via Weverse live (immediately after Andrew's comments), August 17, 2024
TRACK 004. GOAT ft. CYRUS of XPLOIT @ripsoff, JC of LITTLE HOUSE @okmgi
"did anyone else have flashbacks to 2013 goat remixes or was that just me" ─── @yjuntual on Tumblr, August 17, 2024
"Let's talk about the worst song by far. GOAT was certainly a choice. It's the most generic track on the album. Any rapper can call themselves the goat. It's a jarring disappointment right in the middle of an otherwise decent album. And of course I can't forget the worst part. What on earth possessed Intak to make him think it would be fun to make goat noises on the track? Easiest 0/10 I've ever given." ─── A Rate Your Music review, August 19, 2024
"i know it says ft jc in the title but tell me why i still jumped when i finally heard his voice at the end 😭😭" ─── @GOLDFlNCHS on Twitter, August 20, 2024
TRACK 005. 태권도 (TAEKWONDO) ft. ANGEL of LUCKY @lvcky0ne
"Did everyone listen to 'Feather' yet? If you didn't, go listen to it now and then come back and tell me what your favorite song is. I like TAEKWONDO. Eolssu~~~~" ─── Byeonghwi via Weverse, August 16, 2024
"not to be overly parasocial or anything but intak and andrew's arguments in the fable dorms must go crazy bc andrew would never write a song like this. open discussion does andrew even know what TAEKWONDO is." ─── @kkotcheoreoms on Twitter, August 17, 2024
"promotions for this album are literally so bad if i wasn't locked in to literally everything lucky does i would've missed out on angel content 😔" ─── @.cheonsarang on Twitter, August 19, 2024
TRACK 006. BUCK ft. HERO @anqelblccm
"🔥🔥🔥" ─── Mingeun via Instagram stories, August 16, 2024
"you guys don't understand how badly i need a live performance of BUCK hero would eat that shit UP please please please please please" ─── @hrts4hero on Twitter, August 17, 2024
"Ever since Fable's Intak released his mixtape earlier this month, I've been hooked on a handful of the songs. I know everyone likes Fable for their traditional concept, but they have some extremely solid b-sides in their discography. Enter BUCK. Went platinum on my Spotify last week." ─── 'recent underrated bg b-sides you should listen to,' evvnemoon on YouTube, August 27, 2024
TRACK 007. 무리야 (FLAKER)
"3. FLAKER. Introverted king. He's so me. #intakforpresident2k24." ─── 'ranking every feather song! (nothing to do with sabrina carpenter lol),' @flwrble on TikTok, August 17, 2024
"everyone is clowning intak for putting a song about introversion on an otherwise deep album but i think there's a deeper meaning here where he's trying to be a different person except this is his nature and he can't escape that and anyway it ties back to the wings bc that protagonist is in a pit of self-deception so deep he might as well be six feet under and intak's interpretation moves past that to the slightest glimmer of self-realization like bro looked in the mirror so yes i've connected the dots" ─── @cyb3rn1ghts on Threads, August 18, 2024
"'You're Intak's token extrovert.' I see everyone's listened to FLAKER. You mean his friend. That's how friendship works." ─── Kiyoung via Instagram live, August 20, 2024
TRACK 008. 날개 (FLY) ft DIAZ of VARSITY @ncrdyboyz and EUNJUN of ARM CANDY @hearthr0b
"idk why but this part of the song always makes me tear up 🥹🥹 fable ur sooo important to me" ─── @berryseop at 1:42 on SoundCloud, August 17, 2024
"Another Feather factoid: The Korean title of FLY is the same as the original title of Yi Sang's novel that inspired the album." ─── @prodbyfable on Twitter, August 17, 2024
"FLY is a dreamy collaboration between Fable's Intak, Varsity's Diaz, and Arm Candy's Eunjun. The trio delighted us with the back-and-forth narrative between Intak and Diaz, paired with Eunjun's smooth vocals. Although a b-side, it definitely has title track potential." ─── '10 of Our Favorite Recent Kpop Collabs' by S Kim for Soompi, August 31, 2024
TRACK 009. 풍각쟁이 (PUNGGAKJAENGI) ft. JAESEOP and EUNSU of FABLE, ???
"he credited eunsu as eunsu of fable. brb i'm gonna break down NO ONE TALK TO MEEEE 😭😭😭😭" ─── @twosuluvr on Twitter, August 16, 2024
"PUNGGAKJAENGI is a really fun song because every verse is in a different dialect. Jaeseop's uses the Gyeongsang dialect. Although he was raised in Seoul, he was born in Gyeongsan, in North Gyeongsang. Intak's is Jeolla's dialect, given that he considers the South Jeolla province home. Eunsu's uses his Gangwon dialect. As a side note, this might be the first time Eunsu has so openly spoken satoori. If I didn't know he was from Taebaek, I would have thought he was born and raised in Seoul." ─── @prodbyfable on Twitter, August 17, 2024
"crediting the pansori singer as a bunch of question marks is certainly a decision! not sure what they were thinking there" ─── @haksubak on Twitter, August 17, 2024

Kpop stan Twitter hates them. Sena is talentless tweets hitting crazy numbers. Jiah deactivated her Instagram account. #BaebiGoSolo has trended for three days now...They had ONE chance.
VENUS entered 2021 mad as hell with their second full album, "I AM VENUS," which included the title track "I AM. "I AM was a commercial success in South Korea and topped the Circle Digital Chart for six weeks. It also reached the top ten in Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam. The song has been certified platinum for streaming in South Korea. It also received four PAKs and nine music show wins.
Dazed ranked it 19th among the 50 best K-pop tracks of 2021, and Grammy named it one of the 15 K-pop songs that defined 2021.
The group would repeatedly go viral for their performances of I AM as the girls were either emotional while performing the song or they were in platformed heels. For the first time in their career, Chloe was able to look people in the eyes during the music show interviews. Though the heels were a hit, they raised concerns for fans as there were multiple instances of the girls twisting their ankles or falling during performances because of them. Either way, iconic.
The platformed heels Venus wore during the promotions of I AM. These are the ones on displayed at the Angelico Artist Muesum. The group wore a total of 36 different pairs of heels for this era.
Their repacked album "VENUS, I AM." would come shortly after I AM VENUS with the title track "DIVE". Before the song's release, the teaser images for VENUS, I AM would go viral for their unique concept and artistic expression.
The teaser images used for "VENUS, I AM." under the creative direction of LEXA.
The album debuted at number one on the weekly Gaon Album Chart and also topped the monthly chart, selling 544,339 copies in its first month of release. It has since been certified triple platinum by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) for surpassing 750,000 units.
Tássia Assis from NME gave Dive a 4 out of 5-star rating, describing the track "Dive" as "the definite, luxurious plunge. " Despite being "more subdued" than the group's previous album, "I AM," it is a "chaebol crush" that matches the extravagance and confidence that defines VENUS. Uproxx named it one of The Best K-Pop Albums of 2021.
The hate train finally seemed to slow with the ever-mounting success the girls were receiving. It's not like the girls had enough time on their hands to even really focus on the hate. They were always working on something. That next something would be their 6th mini album, "Illusions," followed by a title track of the same name.
Upon its release, Illusions was praised by music critics for increasingly showcasing all members' vocal abilities with "trendy" production. Illusions was a commercial success in South Korea and charted in Japan and the United States. It debuted atop South Korea's Gaon Album Chart on the chart. Overall, it ranked seventh on the Gaon's 2021 year-end album chart.4 Walls debuted at number thirty-nine on Japan's Oricon Albums Chart, and it peaked at number one on the US Billboard World Albums Chart, becoming Venus' second number one on the chart following 2019's Love Simulator.
Illusions was primarily beloved for its "multidimensional" concept and music video. In the video, the girls were trapped in a time loop, and the song restarted midway through the eight-minute video, signifying that the viewer was also in the time loop with them.
Stills from the "Illusions" music video. Creative direction by LEXA.
The girls would close out the year with the summer classic "Summer Luv!" and a title track of the same name. When I tell you this song was massive, it was huge. Love Simulator was finally overthrown as Venus' most-known song because you could not go anywhere with Summer Luv'ing.
GQ Korea named "Summer Luv!" its Song of the Year in the magazine's November 2021 issue. In December, IZM listed the song as one of its top 10 singles of the year. Dazed ranked the song at number two on its 20 Best K-pop Songs of 2021. The song landed on Billboard's 20 Best K-Pop Songs 2021 list at number four. Melon ranked it number 15, while Rolling Stone ranked it number 13 in their lists of the greatest K-pop songs of all time, with the latter publication praising its production and hailing it as the epitome of "summertime fun, adventure, and romance."
Summer Luv! would win the girl's Song of The Year at the 2021 MAMA Awards and the Best Dance Performance – Female Group award. They would go on to win the Digital Daesang at the Golden Disk Awards and Song of the Year at the Korean Music Awards.
Some of the various wigs and hairstyles were worn by Venus during their Summer Luv! Promotions. Gif style inspired by @pickmedolls !
The Summer Luv! era was not only defined by success but looks as well. The girls would wear different wings at nearly every stage, mixing up their styles and colors while "giving their scalps a much-needed break," as said Chloe during an interview. The girls would go through seventy-five wigs between the five of them, with a fraction of them, the most iconic ones, being displayed at the Angelico Artist Museum.

Sad Girls Club ( Korean : 사드걸즈클럽 ) is a sub-unit of the fictional girl group VIVACE under I-Teen Media. The unit consists of five members : EUNMI, NOELLE, ARA, YANA, & HAYEON who debuted on October 2, 2019, two weeks after VIVACE’s debut, with the mini album SAD GIRLS CLUB.
Sad Girls Club quickly became a fan-favorite sub-unit, and only a week after they debuted, their debut title track, Like This, charted number one on almost all of South Korea’s charts and even gained the sub-unit their first win. But of course, most of Sad Girls Club's fame comes from the members themselves, with ARA, NOELLE, & HAYEON being members who ranked within the top 5 to debut after the finale of their survival show, I-Doll; they have some of the biggest solo fandoms in VIVACE and have brought in a ton of fans for Sad Girls Club. Commonly called the most successful VIVACE unit, Sad Girls Club is known worldwide as one of the biggest trendsetters in Kpop and has built a vast and dedicated fanbase.

ᡣ𐭩 Sim Eunmi was born on April 19, 1995 to a single mother and an older sister in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. As a child, her family struggled financially, with her mother being unemployed and forcing her older sister, Eunha, to provide for the family. When Eunmi got older, she started taking an interest in singers and being a performer. She eventually asked her mom to sign her up for singing lessons, to which her mom immediately refused and told Eunmi not to focus on her “idiotic” dreams. Eunha overheard the conversation between them and decided save up money and by Eunmi’s fifteenth birthday, Eunha suprised her with singing classes that she had to travel to Seoul to attend.
By her sixteenth birthday, for the first time in a while, Eunmi felt truly happy and was actually doing something she enjoyed. It all came crashing down a week after she turned sixteen when she got a call while she was at one of her singing lessons that Eunha had unfortunately got into a car accident and passed away at the scene. Losing the person who practically raised her hit Eunmi hard, and she found herself isolating herself from everyone and focusing on her schoolwork. After graduating high school, she found herself getting interested in singing again, so when she told her mom she wanted to pursue a career in performing and even major in music at college, her mom started yelling at her. They had a huge argument, resulting in Eunmi leaving her house and using the money she had collected over the years to move to Seoul and go after her dream.
The next time Eunmi was seen again was in 2019 when she participated in a survival show called I-Doll for a chance to debut in a thirteen-member girl group. She made it into the final lineup, ranked #8 overall, and debuted as the Leader, Vocalist, & Visual of VIVACE on September 17, 2019. She then debuted in VIVACE’s first sub-unit, Sad Girls Club, on October 2, 2019, as the Leader, Sub Vocalist, & Visual. Eunmi commonly goes viral for her stunning visuals and elegant stage presence, which has attracted nearly the entire nation, and she’s been named one of the faces of South Korea. Being in a group where the members commonly get into scandals over their ‘messy’ personalities, Eunmi is regarded as one of the friendlier members and rarely gets into any drama, which has gained her a huge fanbase.

ᡣ𐭩 Chirawan Chanthara was born to two lawyers in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 25, 1997. She grew up living a life of wealth and was surrounded by unlimited greed, which gave her a huge superiority complex even from a young age. Her parents always pushed her to be the best in everything; they signed her up in the highest-rated private schools, put her into loads of dance classes so she could dance competitively, and forbade her from having any friends that would distract her from success.
At age seventeen, she was in one of the top dance teams in Thailand, and while at a dance competition in South Korea, she was scouted to join a Korean entertainment company as a trainee. Despite being skeptical about the offer, Chirawan’s parents told her to accept the offer, and before she knew it, she was living in a dorm thousands of miles away from home. Four years later, in 2019, she was seen on the survival show I-Doll, where she ranked #2 and debuted in VIVACE a few months later on September 17, 2019 as a Rapper & Dancer and in VIVACE’s first sub-unit, Sad Girls Club, on October 2, 2019, as the Main Rapper & Main Dancer.
Chirawan is regarded as one of Kpop’s best dancers and has been invited to dance at huge events around the globe. Some fans claim she still brings off a narcissistic attitude and would be better off as a soloist, and others claim she's just misunderstood and needs proper love and support.

ᡣ𐭩 Naiyana Suwannarat was born on October 5, 1997 in Phuket, Thailand. Ever since she could talk, Naiyana was obsessed with singing and dreamt of being famous. Her parents always supported what she wanted to do, including getting her into singing and moving her to an arts school. Naiyana was always more reserved and tended to mind her business instead of engaging with others at school, which made her a loner and didn’t have many friends. Though one of her friends, Kirana, encouraged her to post a video showcasing her singing on the internet. The video ended up going viral, and all of a sudden, Naiyana became a famous YouTube singer within the following year.
The sudden popularity brought to Naiyana was something she had never felt before, but it also made her feel accomplished, knowing she was stepping closer to her dreams. Being internet famous, she found many close friends with interests she had never explored before, one being Kpop. She discovered Kpop through one of her friends online and quickly fell in love with the music and groups. In 2018, she uploaded a cover to Youtube of her covering Taeyeon’s 11:11, which quickly gained popularity and the attention of multiple Kpop companies that scouted her, including SM Entertainment, to which she accepted a contract after getting the support of her parents.
Naiyana participated in Mnet’s survival show I-Doll in 2019 and ranked #11 overall, making it into the final lineup she debuted as a member of VIVACE on September 17, 2019 as a Vocalist and a member of VIVACE’s first sub-unit, Sad Girls Club, on October 2, 2019, as the Lead Vocalist. She's named one of the quieter members who doesn't tend to get into drama with the other members and tends to only interact with them during group schedules.

ᡣ𐭩 Min Hayeon was born in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, South Korea on March 11, 1999 to owners of many major companies. Growing up, she tended to use her family’s influence and status to get what she wanted and had no doubt that one day, she would be famous one way or another. Not much is known about her early life except when she was thirteen, her parents divorced, and she was sent to live with her dad so she could inherit the companies. The next anyone saw of her was in 2015 when she became a trainee under YG Entertainment and was apparently supposed to debut in their upcoming girl group BLACKPINK but she left the group predebut.
Four years later, Hayeon participated on I-Doll, a Mnet survival show, for a chance to debut in their girl group that would be formed by the end of the show. She ended up ranking in #5 which many accused Hayeon of using her connections to get that mant votes after finding out that she’s a Chaebol but she publicly stated that she has no care for the rumors and what people think about her or her family. Hayeon debuted as a member of VIVACE on September 17, 1999 as a Rapper & Vocalist and as a member of Sad Girls Club, their first sub-unit, as the Lead Rapper & Maknae on October 2, 2019
Hayeon has been named one of the fakest members by netizens and even the group members who say she’s easily one of the nastiest members in VIVACE. That didn’t stop Hayeon from getting one of the hugest solo fandoms in the entire group with her fans being as horrible and nasty as she is.

honestly, this is gonna sound very shallow, but it’s also because army’s do not find hobi or joon attractive. they will preach & talk shit about other k-pop stan’s being “visual stan’s”, but they’re also the same. it is interesting because when it comes to bts songs, hobi’s verses are actually usually my favorite rap verses in the rap line, but when it comes to solo music, for me, his music is not the best. it’s also lowkey sad because i do feel the original army from 2013 - 2015 were all hip hop heads. hyyh was when they became vocal heavy. a new wave of fans came in the love yourself era (which i feel is when they started to be vocal & pop heavy too) & another wave of new fans in the english trilogy where even the rap line is just singing & not even rapping anymore with the exception of butter. i think army’s NOW like pop music the most & jimin & jungkook will always deliver. jimin is versatile, but he has a good ear & knows what the people want, so he knows what to choose for his title tracks. his music overall is also just well loved. people will complain about taehyung not getting streamed because of the r&b genre, but r&b is actually one of the popular genres here in the usa & sza is one of the biggest artists last year doing r&b. i’m also probably biased but i know jimin can craft an r&b album & he will deliver & it will get more streams. i honestly think it’s just th’s voice that they do not enjoy.
Mmm I wanna say I agree, but not all the way. if armys were told to rank the members in terms of looks, those two would be at the bottom (armys can say they’re all equally handsome like the normally do but they know they don’t believe that in earnest) but I don’t think as a whole they find them unattractive. The obvious difference in treatment when it comes to being one of the attractive members is very obvious though if you compare them to taekook who have built their solo fanbases up primarily on looks (especially for Taehyung.) They get the most dedication and support from the fandom because armys are infatuated with them. Not even because they think their music is significantly better than Joon’s or Hobi’s. If Hobi and Joon were more conventionally good looking they probably would’ve been able to build up bigger and more solid solo fanbases which is the sad truth.
But armys are just as superficial as kpop stans are like you said, they just hide it better because BTS has tangible talent behind some of the members they can flaunt over that.
#Jimin would devour a rnb album though#but we can start small and maybe go for a SoundCloud release just to test the waters

⊹˳⁺ ⠀⠀⠀ YOU’RE WATCHING : WHO IS HERO? THE STORY OF BETRAYAL, FEATURING THE CULPRIT : PDX101 !
ib. : midnight theories on yt !
final word count : 1.4k
warning(s) : none as far as i know, but do lmk if you find some !
𓂃 ⠀⠀⠀ INTRO !
❝ everyone remembers the trainwreck of a survival show, aka the fourth and last season of the franchise, PRODUCE X 101. and just like that, everyone should know the story about the fan’s favourite, HERO, who reached far in the show and continues to do so as a re-branded soloist. you better buckle up and grab the popcorn because this will be a long story. ❞
𓂃 ⠀⠀⠀ THE HISTORY OF PRODUCE 101 !
❝ for those kpop fans that haven’t heard about the PRODUCE 101 franchise ( which i’m still wondering because everyone knows about it at this point ), the franchise started back in 2016 as a female survival show, where one hundred and one female trainees ( hence the “one-oh-one” in the show’s name ) battled against each other for one of the eleven available spots in a girl group that would debut following the last episode of the show. the trainees would do challenges in each episode, showcasing their talents and abilities. by the end of each episode, a certain amount of trainees would pass into the next round, while others would simply be kicked out. terrible to be in that position of each episode, i know, but something about this show intrigued people. oh, and before i forget, the viewers get to decide which of the trainees would go forward in the show, despite it having judges for each aspect ( singing, rapping and dancing ), but before you gasp, remember that fact for later.
as the years went by, so did the show's seasons, up until 2019, when this video’s point begins too. for some reason, the fourth season was named PRODUCE X 101, and it was for the male trainees to compete against each other while the creators of it could sit back and watch it all go down. the show has many controversies, but for now, we’ll focus on only one, or at least try to.
the produce franchise was notorious for debuting strong project groups like I.O.I, WANNA ONE and IZ*ONE, so people expected the same for fourth season winners X1, only in their case, everything ended in shambles only a couple of months later. X1 was supposed to promote as a group for two and a half years just like the other three groups, yet they only managed to release one album ( the debut album ) called EMERGENCY: QUANTUM LEAP. debuting in august 2019, the group promoted the title track FLASH as much as possible, but with the allegations their creator show received, they disbanded the following year in january. what a kick to 2020, am i right? now i’m not saying it’s mnet’s fault, but i am one hundred per cent saying precisely that because in july of 2019 ( before x1 even had a chance to breathe as a group ), an investigation started due to suspicion of voting manipulations. ❞
𓂃 ⠀⠀⠀ THE VOTING MANIPULATION SCANDAL(?) !
❝ remember when i said that you need to recall that everything was decided by the public? well, here’s where it all comes together. as mnet explained in the first season, everything was selected by the fans, from the ranks to the final lineup that would happily debut. turns out that mnet lied and wanted to change the trainees’ positions as they wished to, which was quite dumb of them because they couldn’t hide it well enough and outed themselves. of course, the culprits were arrested, but too late, in my opinion. after the scandal broke out, X1 could do nothing but ( not so ) silently disband, which angered fans because, unlike them, IZ*ONE continued promotions as if nothing had happened. if you asked me personally, it was fucked up from the company’s side to abandon X1 and only focus on their sister group, but that’s another story we’re not concentrating on right now.
i think i speak for everyone when i say that the fourth season was the last straw because it’s when the manipulated ranks started to show. just by releasing the total number of votes following the end of the final episode of PRODUCE X 101, fans began noticing inconsistencies for each trainee featured. every contestant's final vote was a multiple of 7,494.442, which, if divided by the remaining trainees, is impossible because of how similar the number was, and it didn’t mathematically vary from each contestant. it was on december 5th when it was confirmed that the votes for IZ*ONE and X1 ( and possibly I.O.I and WANNA ONE ) were manipulated, making this worse for the fans supporting them from the start.
to make things worse, november 18, 2020, was when the court released a list of trainees that were fucked up by the manipulations, our dear HERO being one of them. ❞
𓂃 ⠀⠀⠀ WHO IS HERO AND WHY IS HE IMPORTANT ?
❝ so, after all, everyone must wonder WHO THE FUCK IS HERO, why and how is he included in this video. well, you will know if you wait just a few seconds.
HERO, full name KWON EUIWOONG, was one of the most known contestants of the PRODUCE 101 franchise. not much is known about his past; he did mention that he didn’t plan on becoming an idol at first but was later encouraged by his friend to try. his final rank was SEVEN in the last episode, and throughout the show, his levels were consistently high and never got under fifth place. need i remind you that EUIWOONG has been the fans’ favourite from the start due to his calm nature and talent in singing and dancing ( i would say in rapping, too, but he admitted he felt insecure in that aspect back then ). so imagine, to fans’ shock, when he was called onto the podium as the group's SEVENTH member instead of a higher number.
despite that, fans supported him along with the group, which some would say was a mistake due to the d-word ( disbandment ) of X1. like avatar aang, he vanished from the public and left everyone in shambles. he successfully avoided cameras and dispatch for a year and a few months, which didn’t go well on social media. back then, when his fans were unnamed ( now called ODDITIES ), they would boycott the company and demand to know what was going on with their idol. and as usual, boycotts never worked for companies like MIGHTY DEVIL and GLASSHOUSE; it went nowhere, and their questions weren’t answered. twitter almost went up in flames, and everyone was seen posting the same sentence over and over again: WHO KNEW THIS WOULD BE THE LAST TIME WE HEAR OF X1 AND HERO FOR A WHILE ( spoiler alert: everyone knew, they just didn’t want to admit it ).
when the list came out, fans could see KWON EUIWOONG being mentioned in it, showing that he was initially supposed to be in SECOND place and not SEVENTH like it was established in the end. pissed and thirsty for revenge, his fans refused to support their sister group, IZ*ONE and flooded the mnet’s comment section with negative words and threats. this, of course, went almost unnoticed by other fandoms, but it was mentioned a couple of times when talking about the whole shitshow.
i’m mentioning only HERO in this video because, unlike other trainees whose ranks went from low to high, EUIWOONG’s went the other way around, which is the first time that happened, from my knowledge. not only that, but everyone knew he was too good for SEVENTH place, with his talents and being named the ACE OF X1, but no one had proof of it until the ranks were released. ❞
𓂃 ⠀⠀⠀ WHERE IS HERO AND WHAT IS HE DOING NOW ?
❝ the hiatus and disappearance of HERO was hurtful to his fans and other idols. his previous members would say they missed him and wish to see him perform again, indicating he wasn’t interacting with them in private. for some time, i thought that was it for EUIWOONG’s career and was ready to give up when all of a sudden, it was like a blessing from the angels. the july of 2021 started terrifically for us because MIGHTY DEVIL finally had the balls to release the news about HERO.
you might be wondering how did the company announce his return? well, they technically didn’t; they released his debut single one day and went, ‘oh, here he is lol’. it’s badass, in my opinion, because there wasn’t any pity shown, just a short and straightforward debut single ( which received high praises and 30m views in the first twenty-four hours, might i add ), bringing attention to him and waking up his old fans.
i know that he just debuted ( again ), and i’m posting this way too early ( and on his birthday, happy birthday, hero! ), but i am sure that he will be okay and be able to showcase his abilities as best as he can. he’s still the ace, but this time not only of X1 but the whole industry, and he can only go up from here.
interested in his debut single? check it out in the description, and don’t forget to stream, support and love our hero as much as possible. ❞

on an Unrelated note is there a place i can learn about kpop fandom terminology or could you perhaps tell me about a few terms . for no reason . at all . /nf
i don't know everything but i can try 👍
also i'm going to avoid 'terms' that are fully just korean words (with a few exceptions) because they don't exist only in a kpop context
bias: favorite member(s) in a group
bias wrecker: someone else who catches ur eye but not as consistently as ur bias (i've also heard this one as someone you wish was ur bias)
ult: ultimate. A bias of biases; your favorite group/idol from your favorite groups/idols
stan: actually comes from an eminem song lol. It used to mean an obsessed fan but the term is used much more loosely now
casual (fan): not a stan but you listen to them
anti: someone who dislikes a group/idol and dislike them publicly and vehemently (like, I dislike some groups for whatever reason but I wouldn't advertise that yknow, it's just tase)
nugu (누구): literally translates to "who?" a group that's not very well known and/or underrated.
title track: different than normal (which would be the track with the same name as the album it's in), it means the track groups will promote with/the main focus of the album/ep/etc.
b-side: any song that's not the title track. Nowadays, some groups will also promote a b-side
comeback: any time a group releases. I consider a comeback to be when a group releases and promotes it (usually people don't promote digital singles)
promotions: include music shows, variety shows, talk shows, etc.
win: when a song ranks first on a music show. The first win is pretty important to a group. All kill means winning every music show the song's on.
fanchant: words/lyrics that fans can cheer idols with. The fanchant for be mine (infinite) is so famous that you can sometimes hear it from the crowd when other idols cover that song lol.
fancam: recording of a performance by a fan, often unofficial (like when people record concerts god bless them). Alternatively, an official recording of a performance that focuses on a specific idol or angle to show the whole group without fancy camerawork.
maknae (막내): the youngest member. In kpop it means of a group, but usually just refers to the youngest person in, say, a company or group of employees, etc. Any culture that has confucian influences will have age-related hierarchy, such as my family lol (viet).

hello! what is your ranking of the rv title tracks, im curious to know, unless you've posted it before im sorry 😭
hi! 🌟 oh my goodness i spent quite a while on this because i am TERRIBLE at ranking things and i also had a lot to say... but here you go! disclaimer that i genuinely love red velvet’s discography to pieces and even the songs that are ranked lower on this list are among some of my favorites. i also decided not to include their japanese singles, solos, subunits, or sm station releases to make things a little easier for myself. you may notice that chill kill does not feature on the list & that’s because it hasn’t been out for long enough for me to ascertain my feelings towards it just yet! okay soooooo with all that out of the way . here are my thoughts 🦢
russian roulette - ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF ALL TIME. i got into red velvet immediately after hearing this back in 2016 & showed it to absolutely everyone i knew because i was so completely head-over-heels for it... i adore its playful synthiness and how bubbly and sweet their voices sound here, i LOVE its accompanying music video of course. when i think of kpop at its very best i think of russian roulette by red velvet!
automatic - i’m forever blown away by this song like it is literally perfect to me… smoldering, minimalist, effortlessly beautiful. i can’t believe they put this out so early in their careers, like genuinely what a feat. i love it so much
rookie - i feel like rookie is strangely underrated & i never understood why? it’s fun, it’s cute, it’s silly, it’s extremely loopable. really excellent instrumental imo and it shines even through their vocals… the strong bassline and brassy chorus in particular are highlights for me. also i think seulgi had a lot of fun this era in particular and it was so nice to see!
one of these nights - i absolutely love the creative direction of its music video & the song itself cemented rv as some of my favorite vocalists ever. easily one of their best title tracks, red or velvet. like it’s just perfect… melancholic and soulful and utterly magical
rbb (really bad boy) - i think this is one of their singles that best shows off their vocals… belting, shrieking, breathy whispering, chanting… the harmonization, the adlibs… so cunt, so interesting to listen to, so all over the place in the best way possible! no other group could have done it
umpah umpah - okay i personally feel that this is their best title track of the original festival trilogy in addition to their best summer single… never fails to lift my spirits, like it’s so joyful and unabashedly fun! i love that it sounds like it’s from a musical and i don’t mean that sarcastically at all
dumb dumb - literally one of the most unique kpop tracks like how many other songs can you think of that sound like this. still SO genuinely novel and exciting to listen to for its quirkiness and nonstop momentum that just builds and builds and builds
bad boy - very evocative of a particular moment in kpop but it aged like a fine wine! delicious to hear then & delicious to hear now… swaggering and silky and impeccably produced. i also think that the styling & sets for this music video were heavily imitated afterwards with songs of lesser quality from other groups. rv 🔛🔝
be natural - SO GOOD... sleek and sultry and understated. i also really love the way the music video is filmed and i think it belongs in the criterion collection. i’m ranking this a little lower than it deserves maybe by virtue of it being a cover rather than an original song and also because of taeyong’s rap
peek-a-boo - PEOPLE DIED. i feel like it’s almost impossible to listen to this without thinking of its music video—not at all a detriment because it’s a complete delight to watch. very catchy and clever and cool despite not being particularly upbeat. i feel like… again… it’s one of those songs where i can’t imagine a group other than red velvet putting out a comeback like this. it’s so them
feel my rhythm - love the structure of this song so much… brings together so many unexpected elements so elegantly. the noisiness caught me off guard a little bit when it came out but now i love the way they transition between the pots-and-pans quality of the verses and the orchestral ambience of the choruses. it really does feel like a frenetic, enchanting festival
power up - SO SILLYYYYY i’m a fan! i love songs with video game-inspired instrumentals & power up is one that’s fast and upbeat and summery and impossible not to dance along to. the japanese version in particular does something to my brain
birthday - i really did not like this when it first dropped but i enjoy it a LOT now… it feels like it’s building up to something it never really reaches but despite this i think it’s so catchy and bold & i love the sample the song is built around
ice cream cake - okay honestly very fun and i loved it back in the day but i don’t find myself listening to it a ton now... really enjoyed the collective blonde moment though & how ahead-of-the-curve they were with its noisy instrumentals!
queendom - i do think the lyrics can get a little corny and it’s not among their strongest title tracks, but it’s cute and easy listening vibes to me and there are some really wonderful vocal moments here and there!
psycho - good song but it was super overplayed a few years ago and it’s sonically not as interesting as their other singles. i know some people feel it’s their best but i don’t agree because i feel like i prefer songs with less muddied instrumentals. very quintessentially rv though, if that makes sense!
zimzalabim - was this a bad song… NO. do i like it that much… ALSO NO. the bridge is stunning though, one of their prettiest bridges ever, and i loved the satanism accusations that were flying around when it first dropped
red flavor - super popular, i know, and i do think it’s nice and nostalgic still, but i don’t feel it’s their best summer track and don’t actually listen to it all that much… oops. i love the twinkling sounds in the chorus but it has an empty and echoey quality to it at certain points that i find i’m not the biggest fan of
happiness - kind of a lackluster debut sorry... i do like the refrain and the pre-chorus though so the only time i ever seek out this song is when i wanna hear that bit... like yes joy! exactly joy!

Kpop title track ranking: Super Junior
In this series I’ll be ranking kpop groups/soloists title tracks based on my taste.
This time around I actually looked at the lyrics while deciding the order of these songs and it did sway me here and there, I have to admit. I also used this sorter to do most of the work: https://eastseaelfie.tumblr.com/SuJuTitleTrackSorter
A-CHA - For some reason this one has been the one for me for the longest time. Probably due to the incredible catchiness of it. It's a party and I'm here for it! And yes, the lyrics are about not-so-well-going relationship. But hey, the instrumental makes it a banger, so it's a party! xD
Black Suit - Another absolute banger! Only my nostalgia-driven love for A-CHA is keeping this one from going to the top.
It's You - Desperate love song done just right. It's so catchy. Classic for a reason.
SUPER Clap - Seriously, it's so catchy and so much fun! I HAD TO clap along, there was no other option. I had not given this enough credit before it seems.
Devil - I surprised myself with Devil ending up this high. But honestly it's just too catchy for me to deny that this is a fine place for it.
Don't Don - It's so edgy! xD But it just sounds so cool, I love it! xD
Mr. Simple - If this list relied only on lyrical merits of the songs this would probably be the best one. I have to admit it did not know the lyrics before this and wow it's really nice! Who would have thought! Also, it's catchy so xD
Mamacita - This list is just one catchy song after another. The flair that Mamacita has is just so nice and different.
SPY - It's so dumb, I know, I know. But you know what it also is? Catchy. Incredibly so, might I add. So, unsurprisingly, I really like it xD
Sorry Sorry - Iconic. Classic. And... You guessed it. Catchy. xD
U - Quite the basic love song at its core but very SuJu and very catchy as they tend to be.
This is Love - Pretty love song, for sure. I guess just my tendency to gravitate towards more upbeat songs let's this one down a little. There is also the fact that I would have wanted Evanesce to be the title track and get all the love it deserves. That may have some impact here too.
Bonamana - The floor sweeping dance xD Overall quite the ridiculous one, right? Very SuJu though.
Sexy, Free & Single - The terrible high-pitched sounds in the instrumental drop this one quite a bit for me. Again, very SuJu but not the best upbeat one of theirs.
Mango - I need to give it to SuJu for coming back with something that sound so SuJu again. Mango may not be the best SuJu song ever but it's still very distinguishably them. And I do respect that.
One More Time x REIK - The Latin music vibes are cool but also not personally something I go for most of the time. But I do have to say this is the clear winner of the two with this vibe.
Magic - A fine one but there is not too much else for me to say.
Lo Siento ft. Leslie Grace - All is said in the description for One More Time.
2YA2YAO! - This is so dividing for me. Something in it does make me think it works. But at the same time it just isn't SuJu-like at all. Very odd, very hard to rank.
Twins - Unlike Don't Don, that arguably is equally dated edgy-rock sounding song, this one has never really made me a fan. Listenable but not one I would actively go for.
Miracle - Cutesy but quite dated. But hey, better than being dated and uninteresting, am I right?
Celebrate - This was a title track? I completely missed it. Cutesy but very Christmassy so it's hard to put it a lot higher overall.
No Other - Very dated and not very interesting. Also, this one has no nostalgia points coming from me to make it go any higher.
House Party - It's so one-period-in-time-bound that it's actually hard to listen to now, tbh. Instrumentally and with any other average lyrics this would be way higher.
There clearly is a pattern in here: if a SuJu song is catchy there's a good chance that I'll like it. Lucky for them, most of their songs are catchy xD
Lastly, some B-sides that I love:
Evanesce - It's almost ridiculous how much I love this song. Without a doubt my favorite SuJu song. Probably one of my favorite songs of all time. That is not something I say lightly as I'm the type that can't answer the question "What is your favorite song?". Good Day For A Good Day - This one really does put me to a better mood instantly (or I'm unable to listen to it if I'm too down in the dumps because it's too cheerful). Shirt - This is such a fun one! (also catchy) Why I Like You - I quite recently did this grand SuJu discography marathon. This was one of those songs I picked up that day and oh was I correct doing so. I should listen to this more now! Shadow - Another one I picked up that day. A great one for sure.

❚❙❘ * ﹙ AVOS : THE FULL DISCOGRAPHY ﹚ 𝄒 ...
created through the survival show, GENERATION: AVOS, the group made their official debut under APRICUS CULTURE on january 9, 2014 with a lineup of five members: sanghyuk, carter, ian, romeo, and hwaseong. their debut mini-album, blues of sentiments, was received well by both listeners and critics alike. marked by their unique participation in the writing & production of several songs on the record, avos began climbing the ranks of apricus' best-selling groups.
within the realm of avid kpop fans, avos garnered attention quickly, securing steady chart positions with each release during their first two years. the group would officially seize the attention of the korean general public through their highly successful 2016 entirely self-written mini-album, DEEP END. its title track, CALL ME, debuted at #1— their first track to do so— and remained there for a record-breaking six weeks. subsequently, avos gained the nickname 'golden group' as their success within the general population continued to rise exponentially.
after their 2017 release, HOLLYWOOD HILLS, was used in a viral trend on the app musical.ly, avos experienced an influx in western attention creating a demand for appearances and promotions abroad. capitalizing on their newly-found american success, apricus culture allowed avos to release the highly anticipated CAPSLOCK project, the group's only all-english record. the album peaked at #2 in the united states while achieving top spots on european, canadian, latin american, and australian charts. despite their massive western fandom— one distinct from the growing hallyu wave, the group announced they would be pursuing solo projects after the release of their sixth album, *HER in 2020.
their seventh album, LOVE/LOVED, marked their first whole group venture since the conclusion of their world tour in 2020. the album was celebrated with the creation of their own sub-label, STUDIO AVOS, to manage both the group and its members in all aspects.

I have listened to 19.99!!! while at the moment (first listen in the car) I wouldn’t put it at the top of their albums/eps it’s definitely up there and it’ll probably grow into being my favorite as I listen more.
something that stands out to me, that boynextdoor continues to do, is push themselves to explore genre. this album is so different from WHO? and WHY? and HOW? but it’s also very them. you can hear aspects of their style developing in each release and that’s so wonderful to see, especially as they begin to contribute more to the writing, composition, and production on their music.
in terms of the tracks, the hiphop influence comes through a lot more than I would say on previous albums which is really cool. I’m happy for the styles and tones they’ve experimented with, particularly I will say leehan’s part in dangerous. it makes me excited to see them all try out different things from rapping to singing and maybe more of just line delivery (like it’d be interesting to see them pull off something along the lines of mortal by enhypen). but anyways!!! I love being able to see how much they’ve grown!
okay now please hear me out in that…. bottom three are not bottom three. every track on the album is a track I would place high in an overall ranking of their discography. but like if i had to rank the tracks based on first listen (+ me looking up the lyric translations):
1. gonna to be a rock - I’m a very big fan of how this song ties back to the original trilogy of releases. yes I’m glad to leave the romance aspect behind, but given I was expecting them to just cut to a completely new concepts, I absolutely love the cohesion. the metaphor of being a rock also feels reflective of their previous releases, in a but sometimes sort of way. I also just really enjoy the sonic of this song. it feel very bonedo in an overall lyric-music-performance type of way
2. call me - I could write a whole post on this one (and I probably will) and it’s a lot of the lyrics making me emotional. the instrumental aspect is really cool, love how they bring it all in in the chorus and then take it away going into the second verse but piece by piece add it back it. to me plays a bit on the aspect of loneliness but discovering slowly that you’re often not truly alone. “call me call me call me / if you lonely lonely lonely” like okay *sobs* also the “i miss you” was A Lot.
3. 20 - as someone who grew up with the idea that my 20s would hold more answers than questions (which like… wasn’t the case) this song hits home a bit. it’s a very relatable view of what feels like being young and growing up. the fairly common experience of wanting to be older than you are but reaching that age and realizing, maybe there was more to hold onto, to cherish. as a group with members in their twenties and woonhak turning 20 soon, it’s a very… gentle approach to the self and others in what it means to approach 20, to be 20, and how it all goes.
4. dangerous - I love this vibe is all I can say. leehan’s part in the second verse is so good and tbh that just made him a contestant for mark’s part in the poison cover
5. nice guy - the cocky vibes are everything in this. the hook is also sooooooooooo good. I love the kpop-ness of it. it’s definitely one of their more.. easy-listening, so to speak, type of tracks. it’s still stylistically representative of them, tho. an excellent choice for a title track.

My Top 9 albums of 2023
tagged by @mysterygrl20 tysm <3
my taste in music is kind of all over the place so prepare yourself for a wild ride, although I also listen to a lot of kpop (I've kinda been slacking on keeping up with releases over the past year tho oops) and we definitely have some overlap in favorite albums
I apologize in advance for how long this post is going to become but you're really opening the floodgates by letting me talk about music lol
(it's been a very dry year for my favorite metal bands or this list would've been even more chaotic lmao)
1) Dear Insanity... by DPR Ian
while I struggled to rank most of these, there was absolutely no question about my #1 album of the year. I only just discovered DPR Ian in 2023 and he very quickly became my favorite artist ever. you might have even seen me talk about this album an unhealthy amount of times already lol. he's just such an insanely good artist and every single song on this album is just soooo damn good.
part of why I love him so much is also the story he tells throughout his music videos and just how insanely good all of his MVs look and how well the visuals fit the music so I feel obligated to link the MV to my favorite song off this album:
(some flashing lights in this one, folks, be warned)
youtube
2) The World Ep.2: Outlaw by Ateez
everything Ateez releases is immediately getting added to my favorites, what can I say. I didn't have the money to go to their 2023 tour but I did see them live in 2022... absolutely worth the one and only time I ever caught corona. not a single bad song on this album, they're all absolute bangers.
3) Take Me Back To Eden by Sleep Token
I only just discovered Sleep Token in 2023 but I absolutely fell in love with this entire album and their style in general. almost got to see them live but then I ended up getting surgery on the exact day of their concert... :')
4) OO-LI by Woodz
I am a Woodz stan first and a human second. I'm convinced this man is incapable of releasing bad music, everything he does is just so damn good and I love how he explores a bunch of different genres while still making all of his music just sound like him y'know
also honorable mention to Amnesia which is only a single album so it didn't make the list but if you like more eerie stuff and the general vibe of his music, definitely check it out, I love it so much
5) On My Youth by WayV
WayV will forever have me in a chokehold. they've been my favorite NCT unit since their debut and honestly also the only unit I managed to properly keep up with over the last year ashgasj. I just really love their style of music and how they've actually been sticking to it
6) The Name Chapter: Temptation by TXT
It's truly been a TXT kinda year for me, I've been listening to them a lot. there aren't many songs on this album but I still love it so so much, all of the songs are great and Sugar Rush Ride is such a unique title track
7) Dark Blood by Enhypen
honestly Enhypen are part of the reason why I might have to update my top 3 kpop groups to a top 5 lol. all of their albums so far have been great and this one was no different, I still listen to a lot of the songs on it on repeat
8) RUSH! (Are U Coming?) by Måneskin
well what can I say, Måneskin have had me in a chokehold ever since they won the Eurovision and I actually got to see them live in 2023! drove all the way over to Berlin for them and everything, great album with great songs. I love both their more rock-ish songs and their slower songs and this album has a great mix of both (although I wish there would've been some more Italian songs on here)
9) MONO by K.Flay
K.Flay has been one of my more underrated faves for a couple years by now and I'll take any chance to gush about her music. there's just something very unique about K.Flay's music and this album certainly didn't disappoint. honestly, the only reason why I ended up putting this one on the "last" place is that I haven't listened to it as much as the other albums on this list
Honorable mentions!
bc once I start talking about music, I just simply can not stop at only 9 albums and this list isn't quite chaotic enough yet to properly describe my taste in music lmao
ODD-VENTURE by MCND
this is a rather recent one so I haven't listened to it enough for it to make the list, but I love everything MCND put out and this is definitely also a great album! (plus the title track is yeehaw kpop which is incredibly creative of them and I didn't know I needed that in my life)
HAPPYPILLS by Utsu-P
and this is where I expose the true chaotic nature of my taste in music lmao. Utsu-P's music is the perfect clash of world's between teen-me's obession with vocaloid and current-me's love for metal. I didn't include this album bc I still haven't gotten around to listening to all of it, but the songs that I did listen to, I absolutely loved
Phantomime by Ghost
oh you thought you made it through an entire post of me talking about music without mentioning Ghost? Hah, fool. jokes aside, this is an album full of cover songs so I didn't include it but it's still full of bangers. I reached audio cap now but I'll include their Jesus He Knows Me cover bc this was an absolute treat to witness live:
youtube
if you've made it this far without getting whiplash: congrats!
tagging (as always, no pressure, feel free to ignore this): @negrowhat @fallsouthwinter @spicypussywave @thisisworsethanitlookslike @supanuts @buddhamethods @alienwlw and anyone else who wants to do it!
#the lack of skz is only bc i still have not managed to listen to the full albums i'm-#i've been slacking on kpop releases so bad this past year it's ridiculous lol#tag game#tagged#music#rae's music rambles#Youtube#Spotify
