Me: So yeah the thing about the PI girls for me is how they view themselves and treat other people because like, Sky sees herself as a hero and believes that everyone deserves help or a second chance, which becomes actively harmful whenever she has to battle herself about what’s best for her/her team vs what’s best for the feelings of others, often resulting in failure (ex: her refusing to call out teammates like Leonard as team leader) or her own feelings of anger/guilt (ex: the entire Dave situation); meanwhile Ella is truly kind through and through because she sees herself as an innocent fairy tale princess and the level of kindness is born from the naivety and idealism accompanying that label ended up being her downfall (ex: refused to see the bad in Sugar and insisted on being friends even when Sugar clearly hated her); and of course Sammy is kind and wants to help people (ex: volunteers to go berry picking), but has a massively skewed view of confrontation due to her low self esteem and her image of herself as a helpless or worthless proxy to her sister, to the point that she won’t confront people until she blows up in the most inopportune moments; and then Jasmine wants the best for people but believes that they must make this happen themselves (ex: Sammy) and she also believes that individual healing/kindness is second to working together as a team towards a collective goal (ex: again, in the case of the Sammy/Amy situation) because she sees herself as a leader and a survivor above anything else and expects other people to feel the same, which is why it stung extra hard when Shawn, who she likes, worked against her instead of with her for a collective good, and why it was extra impactful to her when he sacrificed his win to save her when they weren’t working together; and then Sugar sees herself both as a bit of a comedian and as a queen who is above other people, and will make fun of people or manipulate them for her own gain or entertainment, but is still willing to work with others and will still treat them as friends (ex: Sky, Leonard) when a goal is within close reach, with the exception of people she believes are out to hurt her (ex: Ella); and then Scarlett sees herself as a villain but has sought out friends before (ex: Max) and can be incredibly helpful in a team and will only turn to cruelty when people have lost her trust (ex: Topher, Max), or when she feels she’s finally in total power with nothing to lose by hurting others (ex: Scarlett Fever), suggesting she likes some people and would be willing to align with or befriend someone who shares her goals but ultimately sees people as resources, perhaps because the people around her never showed an initiative to work with her as friends past the merge as they did when they worked on a team together (see: Jasmine); and finally Amy is the worst of them as she sees herself as the best of the best in a similar way to Sugar (though Sugar will do the work for this title, while Amy feels entitled to it), and she doesn’t like or respect anyone, and is actively cruel to people for little or no reason even when they can help her, though she still wants their praise and adoration despite this. All of the PI girls are victims of circumstance clearly but they’re also all self-fulfilling prophecies in their own ways. Their adherence to their own self image is both what caused them to clash and what caused them to bond. In the end Jasmine and Sky are the only ones who broke out of their moulds which is why they succeeded (Jasmine got part of Shawn’s reward in his ending and Sky got the full million in her’s). Yuri could’ve saved all of them faster though.

Wouldn't it be cool if the horsemen do the opposite of what you'd expect? Cause you said that their deaths brought the apocalypse, that could mean that without them, their respective dominions run wild.
Like, the harvest and plants grow extraordinarily fast when Reader is around. No one ever goes hungry around them, but Reader themself always seems to be eating something. They don't feel any bad effects from it, but they just can't stop! You empty out their pockets, and a 4 course meal of snacks falls out.
People still die around Death but their health seems better. Back pain hurts a little less, colds don't last as long, nausea settles. The weirdest part is they can't take a life. Others can take theirs, but the worst they can do is hurt, but people who are hurt normally want revenge.
Ooooo...
I likee.
So War (Scott) would instill peace in others, being a claiming presence, making others keep the peace, having others become friends and allies rather than enemies...
Pestilence (Pietro) causes healing, fevers break around him, broken bones mend, viruses disappear, and others feel healthier just being in his presence.
Death (Remy) can bring back the dead, can make things grow, can heal the dying, and there's always a feeling of peace rather than fear around him, as though being cradled by warm arms...
Famine (Reader) can make crops grow, the waters clean, berries fat and ripe, the animals and humans feel full around them, with food and friendship and love...
(Bonus: the ones who led to their deaths are now their respective Angels and Protectors; there are a few, but these four take extra care of their four kids. It goes as follows: Death/Remy's Angel is Sabretooth; War/Scott's Angel is Xavier; Famine/Reader's Angel is Wolverine; and Pestilence l/Pietro's Angel is Magneto... Other Angels/Protectors include Storm, Hank, and Mystique...)
(Thank you, sugar! I loved this idea!)

When you’re very small, running barefoot through damp grass on a summer evening, honeysuckle’s scent beckons like fireflies. It’s an alluring smell that, on the scale of things that will someday make you weep with longing, is somewhere between a magnolia blossom and your mother’s best perfume.
First, you pull off a creamy white or pale yellow flower. Then you hold it with the green base up. You carefully tug off the little green cap and draw out the single thread of the stamen. If you’re lucky and the fairies are with you, you’ll be rewarded with a drop of nectar, a small sip of sweetness, hanging on the end of the thread.
It’s a joy best savored by the young and patient, those with mouths so small and taste buds so fresh that the little drop seems as big and sweet as a Nik-L-Nip, those wax bottles of colored sugar syrup.
It’s like God loved Southern children so much, he draped the woods with a candy counter, free for the taking, proof that life will always be delicious and full of promise.
And then, inevitably, we grow up. As we get larger, tiny pleasures like honeysuckle blossoms don’t seem like such a big deal anymore. We get lives and yard work and mortgages, and we discover that not everything lovely is carefree.
• • •
The honeysuckle that festoons our woods is Japanese honeysuckle, and it’s an outsider here, an invader that pushed its way in, like kudzu and wisteria, those other vines that came from the outside and stayed to color the Southern landscape. Honeysuckle is not supposed to be here. It’s just another visitor that dropped by and liked it here too much to leave.
This rampant vine, first brought from its native Japan to U.S. shores on Long Island, New York in 1806, absolutely loves the Eastern climate. Propagating by berries spread by birds as well as running rhizomes, it proceeded to conquer just about all of the woodlands, roadsides, wetlands, and disturbed areas east of the Mississippi River. It invaded Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Missouri too.
Like most vines, Japanese honeysuckle is programmed to grow and spread and never stop. If it has nothing to climb, it creeps along the ground until it does. When it does, it twines around it until it reaches the top and then starts looking for something else to climb. It will readily reach the top of a 100-foot-tall tree. If it twines around a young tree, it can literally strangle it to death. As it travels from tree to tree in the woods, it forms impenetrable thickets.
There are some uses and benefits to honeysuckle though. Mainly regarded in traditional Chinese medicine, the Honeysuckle has long been used as a natural home remedy to treat inflammation, stomach upset, upper respiratory infections, fever and more.

Excerpt from a horror short story/novella I keep toying with, called "The Mountain".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When we measure all the things that went into making your being on this world, you can know very well that how you have been shaped and how you have been made to live is not your fault.
Yet, it is embarrassing.
And any assignation of fault, whether yours or others, never changes the effects of you on those around you.
You want to go. So badly. You just want to go.
Still, you know.
It is not your intention to die on the Mountain. You must reach that one particular spot.
…And you are hungry. Energy flagging, movements slowing, having run all day.
In your search for food, your sense of smell discovers even more hunger.
In a battered tent lit by a dim electric lantern, you find a dirty child: bruised, sleeping, and smelling of weakness.
Well...
Now, whatever you find, you will share.
You force as much quickness as you can from your limbs, looking for sustenance.
You try to at least seek it out where the faces will be fresh and full-fleshed: the insides of the houses decorated, comfortable, and quiet.
To take from those who can spare.
It isn’t too hard to find.
The proverbial pie on the window-sill stands literal: steaming in the cool night breeze; smelling profusely of nuts, berries, butter, spices, and honey.
You are nothing, and have nothing to offer, but you try anyway.
On the sill, you place a woven round of grass, feathers, and seed beads about the size of your palm, with a pretty seashell at center… handmade last Summer, which was the last time you saw The Sea.
You quietly chant at the corners and seams of the house: wishing it well and whole and loved – though, you are no witch, and understand that wishes do nothing, and that bothers you and makes you feel silly for even bothering....
…But you do not matter. The child, to which you return, does.
You put a nearby cloth over her mouth, and wake the child.
“Shhhhh.”, Your finger over your bizarre lips.
She is frightened, but nods.
You step back, and break the pie in half, pushing one half towards her.
“This was stolen.”, you tell her quietly. “After you eat it, you must leave. Or else they will think you did this.”
…She thinks you a fever dream.
But she eats with desperation as you quickly leave; and you know that, once she has gained strength from this food, lucidity will find her, and she will know you were real.
She will move onwards, for sure. To a new life, you hope. A safe one.
But you choose a path through the dark, and make messy tracks along it: heading well away from her, in the direction of nothing; hoping that it will help divert any searches away from her…
You push yourself until you find a deep little nook within the rocks where you can dine.
...The eating is sweet.
Still oven-warm, the golden-browned textures are flaky and crunchy and juicy and soft.
The ingredients so fresh that your senses taste the grains in the pie crust, the rain and the minerals of this mountain in the berries, the flowers of the mountain in the honey, the woody resin of the trees of this mountain in the nuts, the grass of the mountain in the milk in the butter….
The sweetness of the honey and raw sugars perfectly balanced by some subtle undercurrent of savory herb you never knew, and the acidity of lemon and citrus juices.
A king could not have demanded a better feast.
The hot meal awakens your thirst.
You remember the cream in the jug on the counter just beyond the sill, next to a cooled pitcher of fresh-brewed tea, but are embarrassed at the idea of going back to take from either without absolute necessity.
You instead follow your senses, and quench your thirst in a nearby fresh-water stream; stopping to watch it flow, and to clean your hands and nails, and to splash the clear mountain water over your face and neck…
Walking a little further, you find a little corner to rest in: a clearing, a ledge, on a level apart from and above the mountain pathways.
You sit, and lean your back against a large, aged walnut tree…
As you rest, you sing.
It isn't a lovely voice.
It's a lot like the places on the mountain where the humans do not go.
There is only the vaguest sense of time, though the rhythm is sure as it waxes and wanes; chaotic with shifting bright and shadow.
Vibrant where it is abundant. Hopeless where it droughts.
Something in it is keening: but because you are the one singing it -- you who are not human, and yet, who do not belong wholly to nature -- the keening is not wild nor freed enough to make it Live.
Your loneliness and frustration give it a sadness that nature does not know, and half-ruins the sounds…
It is a song not meant to be heard, so you don't care.
Pouring yourself heedlessly into it, knowing well that these are some of the last sounds you will make.
…Yet, ears find it.
The ears, set beneath smooth waves of curled dark-brown hair, belong to the full house to which they were walking home: carrying tired hands that smell of fire and coal and clay.
The sound of his approach makes you to stop immediately.
You get to your feet, and crane your neck to see, cautiously observing his search…comfortable that you are adequately hidden in the night….
But, in fact, you remain curious too long, forgetting both who you are and your aim and your need to stay unseen -- so, when he finds the vague pathway up towards the sounds he heard, you are taken completely aback, and panic.
The chipped off facing of stone from which this ledge split long ago is ten feet taller than the twenty that you can jump: too sheer and smooth to climb.
You try and force your way through brambles on the other side of the ledge, thinking to jump down…but further in, the tangles and the thorns make a wall far too dense to pass.
With a quiet curse, you scramble back out: your rough, sparsely-furred hide covered in welts, scratches, and cuts.
You could climb the huge nearby tree, but there are no leaves to conceal you: its branches gone early to Autumn's sleep.
…You can see him clearly now, but he has not yet rounded the turn past the boulders leading up, that he can see you.
"Hello? Anyone there?", he calls, searching the shadows in an already dark night.
"Hello!", you manage in your best phone voice, making one last attempt to avoid an encounter, "I am just here resting for a moment. I am fine, only a woman traveling. It's okay. I am leaving now, so you should go."
The click of his phone light is almost comical.
Like a spotlight turned on a housemate who has snuck downstairs for 4am ice cream…
He is utterly frozen.
You stand there awkwardly.
It occurs to you to try to assume a casual posture that you saw in a magazine once, but you're pretty sure you don't nail it.
Your large dark eyes might soothe, were one of them not ringed and threaded through by wires.
"What. The. Fuck!!"
"I mean no harm.", you raise your arms with huge open hands straight above you. You tilt your head – forgetting that it adds to your strangeness, rather than softens it, as it might in another human being.
“What the fuck are you!!!?”
The temper climbs in your throat.
You are so so tired of this reaction…but…with quick, cold calculation of who he is, who you are, what this world is, what he is used to…
Can you blame him?
You are not normal.
So, as usual, you carefully catch the tail of your temper, yanking it back like an aggressive pet dog in front of new neighbors: with a sheepish smile.
You blurt out something meant to be funny, attempting to allay his concerns; adding, “It would take a while to explain, but if you really want to know—”,
As usual, nothing you can say helps.
Stumbling backwards in fear, his feet tangling in the brush, he falls, head landing on stone.
…You kind of want to cry.
But, with sharp self-reminstration, you force yourself back to task.
You know, from experience, that no help comes, when you cry.
You must manage this yourself.
Blinking your eyes clear, with cold calculation, you take a deep breath and try to focus on the man's current status:
Alive? Or dead?
And to what degree?…
You carefully crouch over him, leaning slightly forward; watching carefully, sifting the air with your nostrils, ears twitching and listening closely.
He's breathing.
Unconscious; and, you note with relief, that the wound looks not too bad.
Thus reassured, your eyes cannot help but gaze: sliding along their freckled skin, as it clings comfortably and sure to their human hands, their human arms, their human neck.
Such luxury.
Just for a moment, you dream.
Your hand reaches out, towards theirs, so slowly.
Delicate and careful as you can.
Yet, the closer you get, the more heat pulses in your veins, your arteries, your capillaries, emitting that yellow-orange glow: beginning to smoke even before the touch.
You bite your lip, like a prayer. Desperate to ignore your realities.
But even passed out, their skin twitches, sensing the danger of fire.
A small, strangled sound escapes your throat: the horrific, intrusive thought of their hand blistering and burning beneath yours makes you STOP…
…You know better.
Yanking back your hand, you stretch smoothly from your crouch, standing straight, staring down, face a mask. A switch flipped.
…You can't even touch him to help him.
You settle for what you can do.
You pile leaves upon him, to insulate him from the gathering autumn mist and cold; and lope back to the house where the pie-maker's voice is raised, seeking.
You bang on the side of the house, rattle the nearby shed, and run before they can see -- but not quick enough that they can't glimpse the movement of branches in your wake, and note the direction in which you sprint -- towards the fallen one, with their fallen phone light still shining -- and so the woman grabs her garden rake and follows.
From a tree beyond the path, thick with stubborn red leaves, you watch the matron find and attend to their younger cousin.
…You watch knowing that they will be helped, and that that is good.
Watching, with a warm feeling, the tender care that the matron provides...
Understanding, also, that these humans will always help in ways that you cannot.
Because, to do that, you have to have hands that do not burn.
And you have to know how to help.
To know what it is to be human.
And you know that you don't know…
This is the third knowing that you won't need anymore; and the letting go of it lightens you so much, you suddenly feel you might float into the sky.
And you want to…
But this isn't the place to float away.
You don't intend to die on the Mountain.
You MUST reach the top.
Cookie Run Kingdom- Cheesyitis (Based on Frozen Fever)
Golden Cheese, Princess, Cavatappi, and the others plan a special birthday celebration for Mimolette months after her return, but when Goldie catches a cold, her Ancient Cookie powers put more than just the party at risk.
The Cheese Triplets, Casu Marzu, and some other characters belong to me.
Princess Professor Mimolette, Prince Professor Cavatappi, Lil Mac, and a few others belong to @thetropicalfairy
It had been a few months after Princess Professor Mimolette Cookie had returned after an epic journey to find her and her parents. But today, Golden Cheese was extra busy- for it was her daughter’s surprise birthday party. She wanted her to have something to remember, especially with her whole family and all of her friends and allies around. “Come on, Goldie. This is for Mimi! You can do this!” She nervously said as she placed the crystal butterfly cake topper on the cake, which was decorated with sugar crystals and fake sugar butterflies. “Relax, Mom in Law! It looks great!” Prince Professor Cavatappi, her son in law, said. “I just want her to have something to remember.” The golden sovereign replied as she walked over, while Pure Vanilla Cookie arranged flowers from Mimi’s garden, Hollyberry Cookie and her family supplied berry juice by the bottle, and Dark Cacao Cookie plus his son Dark Choco Cookie and wife ChocoPearl Cookie cut up paper chains. Sparkling supplied his signature juice; Cocoa helped make the hot cocoa bar, Herb helped with the table settings, Mint Choco and DJ chose some party tunes, and Vampire plus his sister Alchemist handled the piñata.
“Speaking of which, check this out!” Cavatappi answered, revealing a banner he and his nieces + nephews made that said “HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIMI” in bright letters. “Everyone, are you sure I can leave you in charge here?” Golden Cheese replied. “Of course you can!” Madeleine said as he got the party games set up while Espresso got a brewing station ready. “Because I don’t want anything to go wrong today.” Goldie replied as she flew over. The cheesebird triplets giggled as they ate some of the miniature cupcakes, which looked like Cheesebeetles. “Kids, those are for the party!” Sosha, their mother replied as she flew over with their father, Danby. “Yes, Mama and Papa.” The trio, made up of Fontina, Colby, and Brie said as they flew towards their parents. Prince Mac N Cheese Cookie, their neighbor and Goldie’s grandson, flew over as well. Then, Golden Cheese knew that the party was about to start for real. “Two things- One, Make sure to not let anyone in until we’re ready; and two, Keep an eye on everything, got it?” She said as she flew away quickly. “Got it!” Princess Cookie shouted as she, her sister Tiger Lily, Tea Knight and Eclair hung up balloons and streamers; while Cheesecake, Birthday Cake, Piñata, and Firecracker handled the rest of the decor. “What could possibly go wrong today?” Parmesan, Golden Cheese’s husband, said with a smile as he tied a few more ribbons. Burnt Cheese, Mozzarella, and Smoked Cheese also helped decorate too.
Inside her daughter’s house, Golden Cheese smiled as she approached her sleeping daughter. “Wake up, sweetie. It’s your birthday!” Mimolette sat up and gasped. “I-It’s my birthday?!” She said as she leapt to her feet. “Yes! I know how much you missed when you, your friends, and your father and I celebrated your birthday, so we’re going to make this one your best one yet!” Golden Cheese said, only for her to sneeze and two Cheesebirds to appear out of nowhere. Neither mother or daughter noticed. “But first, let’s get dressed!” Goldie said as both of them got dressed in party dresses with butterflies and jewels, respectively, while having their tiaras on as well. “Now… for the presents!” She squealed.
Laughing, mother and daughter followed a long string that the Ancients had wound through the kingdom, leading Mimi to various different gifts. Inside one of Tea Knight’s suits, was a silver butterfly bracelet. Inside one of Eclair’s cabinets, lay a Parfaedia snowglobe. And on the balcony of Hollyberry’s vacation home, there was a bouquet of desert flowers. Mimolette was so happy! But Goldie sneezed AGAIN. More Cheesebirds popped out of nowhere and flew to the ground. Both still didn’t even notice! The Cheesebirds flew into the party venue, where Lil Mac was thrilled to see them. “Hi, little guys!!” He squealed. “Uh oh…!” Cavatappi’s siblings said in unison as they placed the food on the buffet table. The Brave Gang immediately took action as well, stopping all the decorating and immediately chasing after the little birds.
Mimi and Goldie followed the string all across The Cookie Kingdom. Along the way, Mimi discovered more presents: A family portrait, a Cheesebird Doll, and even a fishing Rod! But Golden Cheese was sneezing way more often. And each time she sneezed, more Cheesebirds appeared. The pair didn’t see any of them. Finally, Mimolette broke the ice. “This day’s been amazin’. But I think ya need to get back home and rest.” “Wait! There’s more, sweetie!” Golden Cheese persuaded. She then led her daughter to The Squirrel Shop, where she presented her daughter with a gorgeous butterfly wing style cloak. The Maestro Sugar Gnome stepped out of the door and noticed Golden Cheese sneezing. “How about some medicine for you?” He asked. Mimi took the bottle without hesitation. “We may or may not need that.” Later, Goldie took Mimi to the Kingdom Plaza, where Lil Mac’s friends had another surprise for her. “Happy birthday, Princess Professor!” Gumball Cookie said as he unveiled a mural he had made himself. Goldie turned to her daughter. “They absolutely love you, Mimi- AHH, AHHH, AAAAACCCHHOOOOO!!”
More Cheesebirds appeared out of nowhere and flew into the venue. The Triple Cone Trio, Cavatappi, and the others tried to get things under control; but the little birds where all over the place! Cream Puff Cookie noticed the birds flying towards the cake. She conjured up a spell to keep them away. “Protecticus… Cakeicus!” She shouted as she shielded the cake while Walnut Cookie tore up some bread and got the birds away. Suddenly, the flock of Cheesebirds perched on the banner and wrecked it, sending pages everywhere! Prune Juice Cookie grinned. “We’ll get it!” He shouted. Cavatappi caught each of the Cheesebirds in the bowl just as the Triple Cone Trio finished repairing the banner. Capsaicin Cookie smiled. “All done!” He shouted. Kouign Amann Cookie grinned in return. “Whaddya think?” She asked. Cavatappi was horrified as he saw The Triple Cone Trio hanging from the banner. “PHAPY RHABDIOM TIMIY?!” Almond and Latte couldn’t help but laugh.
At the same time, Golden Cheese had led Mimolette to the last stop. There Was just a single gift left hidden in the Cookie Castle. But Mimi’s arms were filled to the brim with presents, and Goldie’s cold was getting worse. Mimolette persuaded her mom, “Please, Mom. Ya need to get some rest!” Golden Cheese wasn’t listening, though. She was feeling a bit… feverish as she flew up the stairs to the top of the castle. “It’s your happy birthday, my darling,” she sang. “Happy, jolly, hot, hot, birthday…” But just before Golden Cheese lost her balance, Mimi dropped the gifts and flew down to catch her. “Mom, ya practically have a fever! We need to get ya to bed.” “I really am that sick.” Golden Cheese admitted. She sighed as her daughter helped her through the venue gates. “I’m so sorry, Mimi. I ruined your perfect birthday.” But Mimolette just smiled. “Ya didn’t screw up anythin’, mom. Everythin’ was truly—!”
“SURPRISE!!!” Mother and daughter stopped short. Everyone Mimi had helped, was friends with, all of her students, and her whole extended family were all there in the venue- surrounded by who knows how many little Cheesebirds! “Wow!” Mimi said, ecstatically. “Wow.” Golden Cheese replied, shocked. Everyone ran up to Mimolette and hugged her, wishing the Princess Professor a happy birthday- especially Royalberry, Jungleberry, and Dark Choco, her three bestest friends of all. Princess and Tiger Lily, caught up in the excitement, ran up to her and tackle-hugged her. “Happy birthday! We love you, Mimi!” Then the guests stopped, stunned by what Princess had said.
Mimi had grinned at her biggest fan; then she turned to her mom. “Ok; mom. Time to go to bed.” But Goldie was persistent. “Wait! All that’s left is for the queen to blow the Birthday Bukkehorn!” She shouted. Mimolette knew what was going to happen next. “Nonononononono!” She replied. “ACHOO!” The Queen sneezed out Puffington, a massive Cheesebird, who was sent flying to Beast Yeast. Meanwhile, Casu Marzu Cookie, the Queen’s traitorous former advisor, was muttering her next plan… only to get crushed by Puffington himself. The other Cookies of Darkness burst out laughing, while Casu growled and flipped off the royals for not inviting her to the party.
But Mimi was still smiling when she tucked her mom into bed not long afterwards, giving her some nice hot soup she had made herself. “Thanks, Mom. That was the greatest birthday present ever.” She said. Golden Cheese looked at her daughter. “Which one?” “Me finally havin’ a genuine birthday party with everyone I know and love… and you finally letting me take care of ya.” At those words, Goldie embraced her daughter without hesitation. “I love you too, sweetie. Happy birthday.” She said as Sosha and Danby, dressed as a doctor and nurse; landed near her as she sneezed again, summoning their neighbors from their homeland. But not long after the party, Lil Mac was riding his tricycle with the triplets in the basket, leading a parade of Cheesebirds through the kingdom. Cavatappi sighed as he laid on the shoulders of his parents, Fusilli and Ravioli. “Don’t ask.” He said to them with an exhausted sigh. It had been a long day indeed.
National Hydration Day
With summer starting, it's crucial to be extra conscious about  hydration. Although everyone must stay hydrated, National Hydration Day  is particularly geared towards athletes, who must put in additional  effort to maintain hydration while training. Athletes must be hydrated  before a workout, drink fluids during it, and continue hydrating  following it. Water is the essential hydrating drink, but athletes may  benefit from sports drinks with electrolytes like magnesium, potassium,  sodium, and calcium, that replenish those lost during perspiration.
National Hydration Day was founded by the SafeTGuard Corporation, the  makers of FuelGard™ Mouthguard and Electrolyte Tablets. This mouthguard  not only protects athletes but provides them with electrolytes to help  them maintain hydration during training. The day was founded in honor of  Coach Victor Hawkins, the creator of this mouthguard,  who passed away on June 23, 2012. It honors Hawkins' "contributions to  athlete health, safety, and success" and "increase[s] awareness of the  importance of proper hydration to athletes everywhere."
Hydration assists in regulating body temperature, revitalizing skin,  lubricating and cushioning joints, protecting the spinal cord and other  tissues, and removing waste by helping with perspiration, urination, and  bowel movements. Dehydration can lead to kidney stones, fatigue,  overheating, unclear thinking, and mood changes. In extreme  circumstances, it can cause heatstroke and death.
Monitoring hydration is particularly important when in a hot climate,  when being more physically active, and when experiencing fever,  diarrhea, or vomiting. Older people, infants, and young children, and  those with chronic illnesses that cause them to urinate or sweat more,  or who take medicines that cause them to do the same, are at a higher  risk of dehydration. Water and other fluids like milk, kombucha, and  smoothies are beneficial for hydrating, while sweetened drinks, alcohol,  and highly caffeinated drinks are not. Salad greens and other fresh  vegetables are full of water, as are fruits, and are also helpful for  maintaining hydration.
How to Observe National Hydration Day
Athletes  and non-athletes alike should stay hydrated today and on the hot summer  days to come. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids as part of your daily  routine. Remind others to do the same by sharing #NationalHydrationDay  on social media.
Indicators that you may be dehydrated:
Thirst.
Dry mouth.
Tiredness.
Dizziness.
Urinating and sweating less than usual.
Dark-colored urine.
More severe dehydration symptoms like rapid heartbeat, rapid breathing, and fainting require immediate medical attention.
Tips to stay hydrated:
Carry a reusable water bottle with you.
Drink water before, during, and after workouts.
Drink water with meals at home and at restaurants.
Infuse water with lemons, limes, oranges, berries, cucumbers, or mint.
Drink seltzer water, milk, kombucha, smoothies, and 100% fruit or vegetable juices.
If drinking sports drinks, make sure they don't have a lot of added  sugar or other sweeteners. Avoid sweetened drinks like soda and energy  drinks in general, as well as alcohol and drinks high in calories and  caffeine.
Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit.
Ruby anon here! I’m pretty interested in all this aura lore stuff! What kinds of aura do Twig, Kip, the future trio, Spindle, Opal, Ruby, Lucky, Sen, Manaphy and Bud have?
(Also what about Yeet’s and Delete’s, because I’m assuming Ark would be able to pick up on their aura and that would be a tell when they’re around).
(Referencing this post)
I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the aura lore! The way I’ve written auras is very personal to me, as its based on part of my experience with mental illness and psychosis— so to hear it’s interesting is very meaningful :> As for everyone’s auras:
Twig: The feel of sun on your skin, the taste of fresh greens, the smell of summer air, the sound of a crackling fire keeping the house warm, and the shock of cool water when diving into the deep end of a pool.
Ruby: The numbness and exhaustion that comes after a long cry session, sympathy for a pitiful looking inanimate object, a hug that holds you together when you’re falling apart, and the texture and taste of a sugar cube.
Spindle: The sting of antiseptic, the feel of velvet lining the inside of an antique music box, the taste of a slightly-melted candy bar, the weight of your favorite stuffed toy in your arms, and the feeling of being too cold but unwilling to get up and grab a blanket.
Opal: The smell of air at dawn, the slight burning in your limbs when you stretch them out as far as you can, the feel of mist on your skin, and the taste of a cold glass of water after a hard day’s work.
Kip: The taste of whipped cream, the weathered texture of your favorite childhood blanket, the warmth of a mug filled with a hot drink, the crunch of old parchment, and the prick of a thorn against your ankle.
Lucky: The ache in your eyes after staying up too late reading, the taste of hot chocolate, the weight of a hand in yours, curling up with a warm blanket, and the sound of a sigh uttered in your sleep.
Sen: The echo of your own voice singing alone in an empty cavern, the taste of cinnamon, the feel of an ice pack against sore muscles, the smell of coins held in your hand while rushing to try and pay for a toy as a child, the emptiness of a porcelain doll, and the hollow ache in your bones that comes with deep longing.
Manaphy: The smell of fresh air at the seaside, the cradle-like rocking of a boat on the waves, the warmth of sun-soaked sand beneath your feet, the sensation of wind whipping around you as you lean into the gale, and the feel of holding an ice cube in your palm.
Grovyle: The unexpected tartness of one berry eaten after a sweet one, the softness of lambs-ear plant leaves, the steadiness of an oak tree’s branches amidst a howling storm, an aching exhaustion that has gone ignored for too long, and a fiercely protective presence.
Dusknoir: The background sound of a vinyl record playing in the next room over, the smell of an apple pie baking, the glint of gemstones in a display case, the sound of a sleepy voice reading a bedtime story, and the feel of a hand placed over a forehead to check for fever.
Celebi: The feel of crabgrass, the smell of crushed basil leaves, raw-cut gemstones, the sight of rolling meadows filled with tall grass waving in the wind, and the sensation of laying down for a nap after a long day.
Bud: The sight of a pruned branch weeping sap, the smell of cut grass, the feel of a kiss over a bandaid placed with care, and the burning in your legs when running as fast as you can in a field full of other kids.
Yeet & Delete: (They’d have very similar auras, to the point one is easily mistaken for the other! Sharing similar emotions and experiences oftentimes does that to individuals’ auras) The surprise of biting into unripe fruit when expecting something sweet, the scrape of talons on bare skin, a glare when a sympathetic glance is what you expected, a keen awareness and fear of the fact that you can’t see directly behind you, and limbs that are shaking with fear and anger in equal parts.
The reason why Mao Mao and Tanya Keys went separate ways(plus some rambles about Bao Bao and Mao Mao).
First, let’s start by going over the severity of Bao Bao’s betrayal. If you are uninterested or just wish to get straight to the Tanya theory, I’ve noted where I start talking about why she and Mao Mao stopped working together in bold.
It’s important to note that Bao Bao essentially served as an emotional pillar for Mao Mao when they were together. Throughout Lonely Kid, it’s made pretty clear that before Bao Bao, he had essentially no friends, and his family ostracized him (aside from potentially his mother). Bao Bao was his first, and seemingly only friend for what seemed to be over a decade, from the age of 5 to his late teens. It seems the importance of Bao Bao in Mao Mao’s life at that time is best captured by Mao Mao himself at the end of his flashback in lonely kid;
“I should be sad, but I’m not, why is that? —- You’re right, it’s because I have you!”
I feel as though this was likely a trend throughout his life. Although it had a major impact on his mental state regardless, he could make it through the neglect and emotional abuse from Shin, as well as the exclusion from his family due to the way he was born, as long as he had Bao Bao, it was all fine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, take a moment to imagine how Mao Mao must have felt after the cave incidence, where, in his eyes, the one and only person he could truly trust, and (seemingly if “no more waiting” is anything to go off) the only person who truly showed him love and affection ran away when he needed him most. Though Bao Bao obviously didn’t consciously betray him, what matters in this particular case is that Mao Mao thought he did. In his eyes, his best and only friend betrayed him, which led to his tail (Not just a limb, but a literal part of his spine, and spinal injuries are unearthly painful) being crushed. With him being pinned under the boulder, and presumably slicing his own tail off to escape.
It’s clear the event left not just physical, but lasting emotional scars on Mao Mao, which brings me to what this has to do with Tanya.
Those who just wanted the Tanya content, here is it.
In the episode “Meet Tanya Keys”, the narrative clearly hints towards it being mostly Mao Mao’s fault that the two stopped working together, however, it’s clear Tanya wasn't all too mad at him. She even went as far as to state that she actively missed him. She was only shown being upset when she truly believed he hadn't changed. Overall, the episode made it clear that whatever rule violations Mao Mao was upset about were likely petty and small. Most likely things he didn't really hold onto as much after considering how he is with Badgerclops and Adorabat.
I feel like the case of Tanya and Mao Mao is one where "Hurt people hurt people'', for the lack of a better phrase. Those who have been hurt will hurt others, whether deliberate or not. Mao Mao, at that time in his life was likely still relatively fresh off the loss of his tail and ‘betrayal’ of Bao Bao. Probably a few months or years after though since he seems to have regained his balance (tails help cats with balance) based on Tanya's comments. (Note; in my mind, I always imagined Mao Mao was around 18 when losing his tail, as it felt right for that event to be a definitive end to his ‘underage’ phase in life, like beyond that he was a definitive adult. Regardless, Tanya and Mao Mao canonically worked together when both were adults). I feel as though he had nothing else but his family's code and his goal to become a legendary hero at that time after having lost everything and likely still getting the ostracization and lack of love from his family, so he clung to it religiously, which he still does(till sugar berry fever), but to a lesser extent than what I mean. After meeting Tanya, Mao Mao probably found himself really being able to make a connection for the first time since Bao Bao’s betrayal. Being presumably his first genuine friend after that traumatic event. Furthermore, with the hints dropped in that episode, Mao Mao possibly felt feelings he had never felt before in his life(romantic ones). So her going against the rules possibly scared him because of how closely he believed in them. In his mind, If she wasn't loyal to the law, how could he expect her to be loyal to him? Wanting to avoid another Bao Bao situation, he chose to break things off preemptively before he could be betrayed or emotionally shattered again, hurting Tanya a bit in the process, but above all hurting himself.
Tumblr media
Parker Simmons has teased in 2021 that whatever did occur did lead to Mao Mao feeling upset, and in the very episode itself he seemed saddened by how brief the time they spent together was relative to the other partners he had, before he lashed out and deflected the blame. I feel like this theory is a strong one, but that’s just my perspective. Guess we'll see whenever season 2 drops.
With all this in mind, yes, adult relationships are complicated.
[Video description: a video of someone cooking toast water by placing a slice of toast in hot water, then straining it and pouring it between several jugs, before finally drinking it and grimacing at the taste. /end video description]
[ID 1: "TOAST WATER Toast thoroughly two slices bread. Break in pieces. Cover with 1 cup boiling water. Let stand 1 hour. Strain. Season and serve hot or cold.
BEEF TEA Cut 2 pounds raw beef in small pieces. Put in bottle or earthenware jar with a broken knuckle of veal. Cover tightly. Set bottle deep in pan of boiling water. Simmer 8 hours. Strain juice and cool to a jelly. Keep it in a cool place. To make tea add a little hot water to some of jelly. In a refrigerator this jelly will remain fresh for a week.
RAW BEEF TEA Make fresh for each meal. Shred 1/4 cup raw beef. Fill cup with hot water. Let stand 15 minutes. Strain and serve at once.
COOKED RAW BEEF TEA Cut 1 pound raw beef in small pieces. Put in saucepan over low heat. Cook 6 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking. Add 2 cups cold water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer 10 minutes. Drain and serve at once, seasoned with a little salt.
BROILED BEEF JUICE Season with salt and broil 1 pound raw beef 4 minutes. Cut in pieces and squeeze all juice into a hot cup. Serve liquid at once.
ELDERBERRY WINE Put only enough water with the berries to keep them from burning and cook but a few minutes; just long enough to scald of sugar thoroughly. Strain through a cheesecloth, add eight cups to 10 cups of berry juice. Set away in a cool place to ferment and skim daily until clear. When bubbles cease to rise on top of the liquid, it is ready to bottle. Use only white sugar and you will have some of the richest flavored wine you ever tasted. Yeast is apt to sour the wine and it is a mistake to hurry the fermenting process. The addition of other liquor spoils the fine natural flavor." /end ID]
[ID 2: "TOAST-WATER. This drink is prepared by simply pouring cold spring water over highly toasted bread, and allowing it to stand for some time, till it becomes impregnated with the pecu. liar taste of the toast. Some prefer boiling the water before pouring it over the toast, but this is of very little consequence in our opinion. It makes a very good diluent drink for persons whose stomachs will not bear cold water, and allays thirst, perhaps even better in cases of fever and in other diseases, where copious draughts of cold water would be improper." /end ID]
[ID 3: "Toast-water may be used at will in every febrile affection. It diminishes the heat of the mouth, the throat, and the stomach; and, by sympathy, that of the whole body." /end ID]
[ID 4: "Simple Toast Water.—Toast water simple, good in cases of thirst and nausea from diarrhoea, is about one-fourth." /end ID]
[ID 5: a graph showing the use of the phrase 'toast water' in Google nGram. It spikes in the 1830s and 1850s in particular. /end ID]
When you’re very small, running barefoot through damp grass on a summer evening, honeysuckle’s scent beckons like fireflies. It’s an alluring smell that, on the scale of things that will someday make you weep with longing, is somewhere between a magnolia blossom and your mother’s best perfume.
First, you pull off a creamy white or pale yellow flower. Then you hold it with the green base up. You carefully tug off the little green cap and draw out the single thread of the stamen. If you’re lucky and the fairies are with you, you’ll be rewarded with a drop of nectar, a small sip of sweetness, hanging on the end of the thread.
It’s a joy best savored by the young and patient, those with mouths so small and taste buds so fresh that the little drop seems as big and sweet as a Nik-L-Nip, those wax bottles of colored sugar syrup.
It’s like God loved Southern children so much, he draped the woods with a candy counter, free for the taking, proof that life will always be delicious and full of promise.
And then, inevitably, we grow up. As we get larger, tiny pleasures like honeysuckle blossoms don’t seem like such a big deal anymore. We get lives and yard work and mortgages, and we discover that not everything lovely is carefree.
• • •
The honeysuckle that festoons our woods is Japanese honeysuckle, and it’s an outsider here, an invader that pushed its way in, like kudzu and wisteria, those other vines that came from the outside and stayed to color the Southern landscape. Honeysuckle is not supposed to be here. It’s just another visitor that dropped by and liked it here too much to leave.
This rampant vine, first brought from its native Japan to U.S. shores on Long Island, New York in 1806, absolutely loves the Eastern climate. Propagating by berries spread by birds as well as running rhizomes, it proceeded to conquer just about all of the woodlands, roadsides, wetlands, and disturbed areas east of the Mississippi River. It invaded Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Missouri too.
Like most vines, Japanese honeysuckle is programmed to grow and spread and never stop. If it has nothing to climb, it creeps along the ground until it does. When it does, it twines around it until it reaches the top and then starts looking for something else to climb. It will readily reach the top of a 100-foot-tall tree. If it twines around a young tree, it can literally strangle it to death. As it travels from tree to tree in the woods, it forms impenetrable thickets.
There are some uses and benefits to honeysuckle though. Mainly regarded in traditional Chinese medicine, the Honeysuckle has long been used as a natural home remedy to treat inflammation, stomach upset, upper respiratory infections, fever and more.
What to Eat (and What to Avoid) When Battling a Fever
Fighting a fever can be a tough battle. Not only do you have to cope with the discomfort and fatigue, but you also need to make sure you're nourishing your body properly to aid in the recovery process.
Tumblr media
What you eat can play a significant role in how quickly you bounce back from illness. Here's a guide on what to eat and what to avoid when battling a fever.
What to Eat:
Hydrating Foods: Staying hydrated is crucial when you have a fever. Opt for foods with high water content such as fruits like watermelon, oranges, strawberries, and cucumbers. These not only provide hydration but also deliver essential vitamins and minerals that support your immune system.
Broths and Soups: Warm broths and soups are not only comforting but also help keep you hydrated and provide nourishment. Chicken soup, in particular, is often touted as a remedy for colds and fevers. It contains electrolytes and nutrients that support your body's immune response.
Easy-to-Digest Foods: When you're not feeling well, it's best to stick to easily digestible foods. Opt for simple, bland foods like crackers, toast, rice, or boiled potatoes. These foods are gentle on the stomach and won't exacerbate any digestive discomfort you may be experiencing.
Lean Proteins: Consuming lean proteins like chicken, fish, tofu, or legumes can help support your body's repair process. Protein is essential for building and repairing tissues, which is especially important when your body is fighting off an infection.
Garlic: Garlic contains compounds like allicin, which have antimicrobial properties and may help boost the immune system. Adding garlic to your meals, either raw or cooked, can provide additional support during illness.
Herbal Teas: Herbal teas such as ginger, chamomile, or peppermint can provide soothing relief for a sore throat and help alleviate congestion. They also contribute to your overall fluid intake, keeping you hydrated.
Fruits and Vegetables: Incorporate a variety of fruits and vegetables into your diet to ensure you're getting a range of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Berries, leafy greens, bell peppers, and citrus fruits are all excellent choices to support your immune system.
What to Avoid:
Sugary Foods and Beverages: While it may be tempting to reach for sugary treats when you're feeling under the weather, excessive sugar consumption can weaken the immune system and prolong the duration of illness. Avoid sugary drinks, candies, and processed foods.
Fatty and Fried Foods: Heavy, greasy foods like fast food, fried chicken, and pizza can be taxing on the digestive system and may exacerbate symptoms like nausea and bloating. Opt for lighter, more easily digestible options instead.
Alcohol: Alcohol can dehydrate the body and interfere with immune function, so it's best to avoid it when you're battling a fever. Additionally, alcohol can interact with certain medications, so it's essential to check with your healthcare provider before consuming any alcohol while you're sick.
Caffeine: While a cup of coffee or tea might provide a temporary energy boost, caffeine can also contribute to dehydration. Excessive caffeine consumption can exacerbate symptoms like jitteriness and anxiety, so it's best to limit your intake while you're unwell.
Spicy Foods: Spicy foods can irritate the throat and digestive tract, leading to discomfort and exacerbating symptoms like heartburn or acid reflux. Stick to milder flavors until you're feeling better.
Processed Foods: Processed foods like chips, frozen meals, and packaged snacks are often high in sodium, preservatives, and artificial additives, which can compromise immune function and overall health. Opt for whole, unprocessed foods whenever possible.
Dairy Products: Dairy products like milk, cheese, and ice cream can increase mucus production and exacerbate congestion in some individuals. If you notice that dairy worsens your symptoms, consider limiting your intake until you're feeling better.
In conclusion, choosing the right foods can help support your body's immune response and aid in recovery when battling a fever. Focus on hydrating, nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and soups, while avoiding sugary, fatty, and processed options that can compromise your health. Listen to your body, stay hydrated, and give yourself the nourishment you need to bounce back quickly.
The Worst Foods to Eat When You Have a Fever
A fever is your body's natural way of fighting off an infection, but it can also leave you feeling drained and weak.
Tumblr media
During this time, it's crucial to nourish your body with the right foods to support your immune system and speed up your recovery. However, certain foods can hinder your healing process and even worsen your symptoms. Here's a look at some of the worst foods to eat when you have a fever:
Caffeinated Drinks: When you're running a fever, your body loses fluids through sweating. Caffeine, found in coffee, tea, energy drinks, and some sodas, acts as a diuretic, increasing fluid loss and potentially leading to dehydration. Instead, opt for water, herbal teas, or clear broths to stay hydrated.
Alcohol: Similar to caffeine, alcohol dehydrates the body and can interfere with your immune response. It can also irritate your stomach and worsen any digestive discomfort you may be experiencing due to the fever.
Sugary Foods and Drinks: While that sugary soda or candy bar might seem tempting, sugar can suppress your immune system and make it harder for your body to fight off the infection. Moreover, sugary drinks can dehydrate you, exacerbating the fluid loss caused by the fever.
Greasy and Fried Foods: Foods high in fat, such as burgers, fries, and pizza, are difficult to digest and can put a strain on your already weakened body. They can also cause inflammation and worsen any nausea or stomach upset you may be experiencing.
Dairy Products: For some people, dairy products like milk, cheese, and ice cream can increase mucus production and make congestion worse. If you notice that dairy triggers phlegm, it's best to avoid it while you have a fever.
Spicy Foods: Spicy foods can irritate your throat and stomach, especially if you have a sore throat or nausea. Additionally, they can cause excessive sweating, leading to further dehydration.
Processed Foods: Processed foods, like chips, crackers, and sugary cereals, lack essential nutrients and can make you feel sluggish. They can also contribute to inflammation and hinder your recovery.
Red Meat: Red meat is harder to digest than other protein sources like chicken or fish. It can also contribute to inflammation and make you feel more fatigued.
What to Eat Instead:
When you have a fever, it's important to focus on foods that are easy to digest, hydrating, and nutrient-dense. Here are some better options:
Clear Broths: Broths like chicken soup or vegetable broth are hydrating and provide electrolytes, which can be depleted due to sweating. They are also easy on the stomach and can help soothe a sore throat.
Fruits and Vegetables: Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support your immune system. Choose hydrating options like watermelon, berries, cucumbers, and leafy greens.
Whole Grains: Whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, and oats provide energy and fiber, which can help regulate your digestive system.
Lean Protein: Lean protein sources like chicken, fish, tofu, and beans are easy to digest and provide the amino acids your body needs for repair.
Yogurt: Yogurt with live cultures can help replenish your gut bacteria, which plays a crucial role in immune function. Choose plain yogurt and add fruit for sweetness.
Remember, staying hydrated is crucial when you have a fever. Drink plenty of water, herbal teas, and clear broths throughout the day.
When to Seek Medical Help:
While a fever is usually a sign that your body is fighting off an infection, it's important to consult a doctor if your fever is accompanied by severe symptoms like difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, or seizures. You should also seek medical attention if your fever persists for more than a few days or if it doesn't respond to over-the-counter medications
