have you not been on the progression fantasy subreddit for a while? there's a very malicious compliance reason for their subreddit icon
What malicious compliance? The rainbow on the icon? I've met many of the mods before and I've never thought any of them homophobic at all. But I try to stay away from subreddit drama and usually Reddit itself; I'm too easy to go on drama rabbit holes and waste half a day just reading stuff that doesn't affect me.

Reddit sub-cultures are super interesting. Every circlejerk/parody/counter subreddit seems to have a few outwardly incomprehensible phrases like:
r/AnarchyChess with google en passant / holy shit and brick on your pipi
r/guitarcirclejerk with toan and [variation of] 0-3-5
r/titanfolk with for 10 years at least! and what a man you are
r/freefolk somehow inspired several more subs to call themselves r/xyz-folk instead of -circlejerk or a name more appropriate to the community they're making fun of. r/titanfolk's name has, to my limited knowledge, no actual relation to any name in Attack on Titan.
Many other jokes are shared too, and I don't even mean crossover memes. Every member is the greatest chess player/musician/gamer/writer/artist and of course completely surpassed by whoever replies, but they all bow to the members of the mothersub. And they all act like they have the vocabulary of six-year old. Every name well-known in the community is misspelled in increasingly absurd ways. Dozens of exclamation and question marks for mundane comments. Everyone is incredibly horny, mostly for objects. A third of all sentences end in "idiot." Radical political extremism in any direction.
Somehow, r/freefolk inspired at least the Attack on Titan and Chainsaw Man community to make r/titanfolk's and r/chainsawfolk, which have absolutely no relation to anything in the works they came from. To my knowledge, at least.
While the references in each sub are distinct, each of them has the same core. And so it never takes long for the salt to seep in and make them less funny. It's tough to build a good-natured community when it is based on making fun of people instead of creating a better place to talk about things.
and this this is where I praise r/curatedtumblr, my beloved

OK, I've been on Reddit for years, and the BIGGEST thing I hate about it is that depending on the subreddit, my posts will get removed for the most illogical reasons. It's like they're operating on some form of alien logic that human minds can never hope to comprehend. Here, I post whatever I want and no one gives a shit. I mean, granted, I don't abuse this privilege and act like a total asshole, but still...

was talking with a friend about how some of dunmeshi fаndom misunderstands kabru's initial feelings towards laios.
to sum up kabru's situation via a self-contained modernized metaphor:
kabru is like a guy who lost his entire family in a highly traumatic car accident. years later he joins a discord server and takes note of laios, another server member who seems interesting, so they start chatting. then laios reveals his special interest and favorite movie of all time is David Cronenberg's Crash (1996), and invites kabru to go watch a demolition derby with him
#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon#kabru#kabru already added laios as a discord friend. everyone else in the server can see laios excitedly asking kabru to go with him#what would You even Do in this situation. how would YOU feel?#basically: kabru isnt a laios-hater! hes just in shock bc Thats His Trauma. the key part is kabru still says yes#bc he wants to get to know laios. to understand why laios would be so fascinated by something horrific to him#and ALSO bc even while in shock kabru can still tell laios has unique expertise + knowledge that Could be used for Good#even if kabru doesnt fully trust laios yet (bc kabru just started talking to the guy 2 hours ago. they barely know each other)#kabru also understands that getting to know ppl (esp laios) means having to get to know their passions. even if it triggers his trauma here#but thats too much to fit in this metaphor/analogy. this is NOT an AU! its not supposed to cover everything abt kabru or laios' character!#its a self-contained metaphor written Specifically to be more easily relatable+thus easy to understand for general ppl online#(ie. assumed discord users. hence why i said (a non-specific) 'discord server' and not something specific like 'car repair subreddit')#its for ppl who mightve not fully grasped kabru's character+intentions and think hes being mean/'chaotic'/murderous.#to place ppl in kabru's shoes in an emotionally similar situation thats more possible/grounded in irl experiences and contexts.#and also for the movie punchline#mynn.txt#dm text#crossposting my tweets onto here since my friends suggested so

You know how there's a subreddit that's called r/egg_irl? (listen, I only know about this because I was curious)
why isn't there something similar but for people who are unsure if they're asexual? Or am I missing something?

I feel the same - I spent years of my life on reddit. And yes, I complained about it (and blamed my brother for introducing me to reddit and killing my attention span), but at least once a week I would see something - a post, a comment chain, an in-depth analysis of some incredibly niche subject on r/bestof - and I would think "This is why I love reddit. Where else would you get this sort of content?"
And it turns out the answer to that is... nowhere. Not really, anyway.
Tumblr is great, but only really filled up 2 of the 20-something-plus subreddits I used to browse daily. I've tried to find similar tags and blogs but the user base is different, there's no comment chains, and it's just not the same.
I miss r/bestof, I miss r/howto, I miss r/AskReddit, I miss r/BORU, I miss r/tipofmytongue and r/nostupidquestions and r/twoxchromosomes and a million other communities that have just... gone.
And I mourn.
At the start, I didn’t think much about the Reddit strike. I use Reddit often, but it wasn’t hard for me to just…not use it for a few days. “Yay, let’s strike! Anyway.”
But now, it’s really hitting me just how horrifying all of this is. Three times today I’ve tried to find an answer to some obscure question, found an answer on Reddit, and then been blocked from it because the subreddit was privated. Say what you want about Reddit being an unreliable source, but so much gathered knowledge is currently locked away, and it will be lost forever if Reddit collapses because of the changes. I keep thinking back to last year’s r/place. How beautiful that collaboration was. I even used it in class to try and justify the internet to a teacher, and she found it profoundly meaningful. And now this hub of culture that seemed so permanent last week feels like it’s on borrowed time. All of this history is both frozen in time and on thin ice. There’s nothing to replace it right now. Definitely not tumblr, with its search functions that feel downright malicious.
Maybe I’m just new, but I don’t think community can live on here like it does on Reddit. It can live, but it’s doomed to be nomadic. Posts cycle around for years but you’d struggle to find a specific one without using google. Here, we’re always going to be wanderers, shouting into the void, walking the same familiar tags. Hold onto your mutuals, because they’re all you have. But Reddit is both community and archive. You can find people there, find things, find decade old posts. There’s problems of course, but I think the toxicity is worth it for everything else that it offers. There’s wisdom on Reddit. We will lose so much if we lose it.
To the Reddit refugees. You probably won’t see this post, but if you do, welcome. It’s a mess here, but you can find some things if you’re patient.
