Lorien and Este / The Two Trees

Este and Irmo are dancing under the light of Telperion and Laurelin as some of their Maiar float around and watch them. They are anticipating the arrival of the eldar in their new lands.

Yo I've got another for my by now mixed Tolkien survey series:

For many reasons I don't like valar&valier in legendarium. But I have one exception: Este.

In canonical sources she is described as "gentle", "sleeping during the day" and "clad in gray". So fandom artworks almost always portrayt her as some dreamy fairy ethereal girl.

But she is a healer. And healing always requires strength and wisdom. That's how I see her.

Here canon ends and headcanons arrives.

For a long time for some reasons I thought that mercy is her attribute, and not Nienna's, who is seemingly representates sorrow.

So I thought "what should literal embodiment of mercy do in noldor situation?" And than I came up with Este, disguised as one of noldor women-healers, coming with them to Middle-earth to heal them when they need, staying there until last of elves come back to Valinor. And they never recognize her, of course.

That's how red color of noldor's first house appeared in her clothes. And much later I connected it to poppies which are known as flower of sleep and also was used a lot in healing in the past.

So, here she is in my vision. Not sleepy, not soft, not grayish, but strong and merciful healer, doing her thing no matter of personal feelings.

You know, I must say I find it funny that Tolkien tells us Ainur can shapeshift without any limits stated pretty much and assumes that we believe him when he claims only Melkor and Mairon used this for a cute little bit of mischief.

You can't convince me that Irmo and Estë aren't swapping genitals every other day for, uh, medical reasons, that Manwë isn't sitting in trees in bird form to watch his favorite Elf ships kiss and that Yavanna and Vána aren't camouflaged in the forests and meadows for similar purposes and to throw those spiky nuts at people they don't like.
