Enamel pin designs featuring heraldic devices for (some, but not all) the valar, important characters from Tolkien's legendarium. I will be creating heraldic devices for all the valar (eventually). Which ones speak out to you? Do you have a favorite vala? If I'm honest, I really can't decide, but I do really love Mando's, Ulmo's, and Manwë's devices!

started off as me redrawing some of my initial mairon designs and ended up going on an rpg tangent 😭 i really wish i could have done the portraits in a pixel art style to better fit the aesthetic but my canvas wasnt the right size!!! i ended up changing annatar completely (im still contemplating how much i prefer this one compared to his old one however...!) and adjusting post-numenor sauron a bit when compared to their old 2022 sketches! im probably gonna do more redraws in the months to come cause of all the stuff i wanna change when i look back to some of my old designs haha 😳

i like to think each 'form' sauron takes eventually has different mannerisms and likes/dislikes the longer he stays in them without shapeshifting into something else, but one thing they all have in common is being predisposed to nagging melkor 😎

Okay, the only proof of Námo being an awkward introvert is him saying, "Not the first" when Fëanáro was having a breakdown as to how he would be the first elf killed in Aman.

Like, just read that passage. He doesn't talk at all, except those three words, and revels in the side-eyes everyone gives him. But of course, no one thinks of it until Finwë is declared dead.

But still. Námo, the Doomsayer of The Valar, The Lord of The Dead, Lord of The Halls of Mandos, One of The Kings of Arda, is definitely an awkward introvert.

Lorien and Este / The Two Trees

Este and Irmo are dancing under the light of Telperion and Laurelin as some of their Maiar float around and watch them. They are anticipating the arrival of the eldar in their new lands.

Valar at Creation

This might be the biggest digital art project I have ever attempted. It is fairly detailed but you may have to click on it.

If the characters aren’t obvious, this is all the Valar named in Tolkien’s Silmarillion and Eru Iluvatar, the One, behind them. In order from left to right are:

Melkor, Oromë, Yavanna, Vána, Aulë, Nessa, Tulkas, Ulmo, Manwë, Varda, Nienna, Vairë, Namo, Estë, and Irmo.

Day #184 - Upside Down

I’m bored so it’s time for another Silmarillion Poll! Since I can’t fit them all on one poll, I’m splitting it into males and females. Female poll is here.

I’ve not included Melkor as I want to see who other than him is liked best. Plus, he was no more counted amongst the Valar so his inclusion is ambiguous anyway!

I like to hc that, much like us (the fandom), the Valar also have their blorbos and special little guys.

Manwë is (canonically) besties with the Vanyar, Ulmo with the Teleri, Aulë with the Noldor, plus of course his Dwarves. Varda is the fan favorite of all Elves and loves them (she got so excited about them in Lost Tales, it was so cute).

Oromë brought the Mearas as a gift and got super excited that an entire kingdom of horse girls was formed. He loves the Rohirrim and sometimes disguises himself as one of them to sneak into their hunting parties. Vána is in on it too.

Yavanna and Irmo absolutely adore Hobbits and blessed them with a great love for quiet countrysides and the charming ability to just enjoy life and its good things. Irmo also visited them in disguise and brought pipeweed to make friends. Aulë and Yavanna ship Bagginshield.

Nienna, as usual, loves everyone, but has a special soft spot for Orcs because they need someone on their side. She probably adopted them already and forced Námo to go along with it and let her have them whether he wanted to or not.

Manwë & Irmo dynamic is severely underutilized. Irmo is the only one of the Valar who actually gets Manwë's feelings about Melkor, because he also has an older brother he's very close with. And being the Lord of Dreams he does not lack in imagination.

Irmo Lorien just gives me Alice In Wonderland kind of vibes. Like, he's friendly and whimsical but also a bit strange.

Up until now, I've imagined Miriel's body in the Gardens of Lorien as if she was arranged in a coffin. Her hair is neatly braided and her hands arranged on her stomach, she lies on her back and her skin is white like a corpse.

But wouldn't it be way more devastating if she really looked like she was only sleeping? Her fingers twitch from time to time, her cheeks are rosy, and her hair is tangled in the leaves and moss around her. What if she alway lies slightly differently than when her family last visited her, and they will never figure out if she truly moved or if the Maiar of Irmo are playing tricks on them?

What if her eyelids flutter from time to time, like she will wake up any moment now?
