Considering starting a journal in German for the primary reason of my mother doesn’t speak it nor does she understand technology enough to translate it and my dad doesn’t care what I journal about. But I also absolutely don’t know German well enough for that. Might try anyway though. Use a translator for what I don’t know and maybe I’ll pick up on things over time.

in a love/hate relationship with the german language

some days i feel like studying a lot and watching movies and listening to music in german, then i start feeling like shit and questioning myself why i keep going

then I think that there's no reason to stop bc it's been a long time since i started and i got so good at it

then I think i am preparing myself for a life that will never happen

then i get excited all over again and think about the next time i will visit berlin and all the other cities i wanna visit

then again i think about leaving everything behind

am i crazy or just really tired???

two posts in a couple of days? who am i? i’ve been studying german so i wanted to make a special post for it. i wrote two short paragraphs, one about my favorite words in german and one about which languages i want to learn next. then i looked up the words in the next unit we’ll talk about tomorrow, and lastly i did the exercises in the workbook 🤓 absolutely love to be more prepared than my classmates.

I think my problem with learning German is that I don’t have the confidence to think that I’m capable of it.

When I started learning French again I went into it fully thinking I could learn French to a conversational level within 2 or 3 years. I did that. I can have a conversation in French. Sure I can’t talk about incredibly detailed things but I can manage a conversation.

With German however, I’ve never had that confidence. I’ve been trying to learn German since I was 15 (I’m 18 now) and I have consistently thought I could not do it. I have thought it was too difficult and essentially impossible.

I don’t know how I had the confidence to think I could become conversational in French within 2 years but I desperately need that confidence in German.

I got a laptop for Christmas and it has honestly given me so much motivation to learn German. On my phone there was a million distractions yet somehow this feels different. Probably cause I'm not signed into any social media except Tumblr, Twitter and Pinterest on here and don't plan to sign into anything else. It's nice. I also found a couple new language learning sites to try today.
