For the past 10 weeks, there’s been weekly rallies for Palestine in Naarm/Melbourne and the government’s claim that protest like this needlessly divides Australia is such bullshit. These rallies are one of the most diverse collections of people I’ve ever seen. Indigenous elders, Palestinian students, queer teens and adults from all walks of life. I saw an old Chinese grandma here a few weeks ago with a Palestinian flag stitched onto her sunhat. At another rally, a girl had come with her service dog - on his harness she had fixed a pin of the Palestinian flag. A prominent re-occurring chant is “ From the river to the sea / Always was, always will be” which combines Palestine’s call for freedom with an affirmation of Aboriginal people’s continuing sovereignty of Australian land.

Today in the rally, the speakers emphasised the value of not losing sight of Palestinian freedom during Christmas “festivities”. If the birthplace of Jesus Christ himself is under siege, what else is Christmas but a capitalist joy fest of consumerism?

This is not to say you can’t still celebrate, but do it responsibly. Observe the rules of BDS, observe the general strike on the 18th. Be more than a convenient idiot this holiday season.

The presidency isnt the only political position that matters, he wont be a dictator, the president doesnt have the power to remove every other part of government that keeps the president’s power in check. Also politics isnt the only thing that matters. Even if we lose some rights (which he cant singlehandedly do) we still have community, we still have activism, we’ll always be ok. We survived one trump presidency, we can survive another. We survived before gay marriage or transitioning were legal, if we have to survive that again we will. Please, no matter what happens, promise to stay alive. Youre valuable, youre important, and youre going to be ok. Its better to be overprepared than underprepared. Your resume should include any relevant work experience and skills you have and it's good to include your volunteer work and internships (ideally four of them) as well as your multiple graduate degrees and the certifications you've earned during the process, and also your resume can only be one page in a font that's easy to read. This field is hard to break into because we have a lot of applicants for not a lot of openings and we'll keep them open for years until we find the perfect candidate. A great way to distinguish yourself is by taking any adjacent job you can find even if it means you have to work two or three part time jobs to make ends meet until a new opening is made. It's also good to tailor your resume to the companies and jobs you're applying for so that they know you researched the role and didn't send out mass applications, and oh, I highly, highly recommend that you keep your resume updated and a digital copy on hand so that you can email it to people at a moment's notice because it's good to keep an eye out for opportunities as they come up. Everyone around you has a master's degree and it's basically the new bachelor's and a PhD is the new master's and we really like seeing several years of work experience because there's a lot of stuff you can't learn in a classroom setting. It's a great field and I love working in it and you should pursue it if you're passionate about it!

I am genuinely so glad that the iwtv writers decided to age up not just Claudia, but the entire main vamp cast. Aging up Lestat, Louis and Armand to their late twenties to early thirties gives them more depth and dimension, both generally (in my experience, you experience, grow and develop so much in your twenties, even if it’s not necessarily as visible as the growth in your teens) and specifically for the individual characters (I have so many bullet points of thoughts in my notes app, I’m not even kidding).

Also, can you imagine how fucking insufferable Lestat would be about it if he had been turned before his singing voice had reached vocal maturity? He’d need an entire 600 page book to bitch about that exclusively
