How bad do you think Franky's abandonment issues are? Do you think he spent the first few months he was with Tom terrified that he was going to do something wrong and Tom was going to abandon him like his parents did?
What happened to hello 😭 This is so painful all of a sudden out of nowhere-- But I love angst so I kind of appreciate it, ngl.
I do think Franky has pretty bad abandonment issues and also pretty awful self-esteem and guilt inside him. But he is also a person who has been able to build a reputation and a family on his own surrounded by people who actually do care about him despite everything, and he is pretty damn independent in that field.
But now (especially after Sabaody) even if the strawhats are strong, there is always this fear of losing them. All of the crew shares this feeling but Franky is after all one of the most emotional (despite his rational thinking, these things can go hand in hand) and cherishes family bonds like nobody. So of course he fears they're going to leave at some point because he lived all of his childhood believing the same thing and blaming himself.
Franky has people to rely on now, more than ever. Robin understands what it feels like to be left out and seen as a monster and Franky teaches her that no matter what, her existence could never be wrong. His bond with Usopp is just-- Perfect and I still believe he feels guilty for what happened between them at first but now it's just them being genuinely close. I'd like to see more of him and Sanji, too, especially after the Wano thing. And in general, Franky has close bonds with everybody around him and it's noticeable because he is a family man and because I feel he does this to make everybody feel included and loved. He makes his fear of being abandoned a strength, because this way he understands others better and makes them all feel part of the family.
So to answer this, yes, I think his abandonment issues are pretty damn bad but he learns to be (and makes him feel better) the one supporting and helping others instead. Franky is a after all a very protective person when it comes to the people he loves and now I feel like his only fear is them being taken away from him rather than him being abandoned by them. But feelings are not rational so Franky wondering and asking Robin (because they're married. I swear. I saw it) if they're going to leave him in a vulnerable moment is pretty plausible. I think it'd take a while before he opens up like that, though, because I feel he doesn't want to be a burden and prefers to be the one comforting others. But !!!!!!! I agree.
#i am a franky supporter franky lover franky apologist franky my beloved in general i adore him#we shouldn't assign gender/family roles to found family members bc it's stupid and found family is meant to go against nuclear family stuff#but damn franky is just so father coded in general it's not even a joke his whole character is meant to be like that#every interaction he has with the strawhats just feels so............. he is so fathering.........#he is the person you can rely on the most#besides idk brook and jinbe#after all they ARE the oldest of the crew and it's just logical that the younger people are going to see them as wiser people to rely on#and i love that bc they desperately need loving adults in their life#and franky is just so supportive and sweet to them it's insane#one piece#franky one piece#frobin#ask-bean!

Born to is kind of a stretch because I've omitted a lot of if not all the weird stuff. For example, the pumpkins that were shaped like amorphous blobs with hooves narrating the whole thing in old greek with a posh accent
Also, as to why Cass was lowest on my top 3 list of likely cults is because they're so painfully human. They've got huge, glaring flaws (hypocrisy, self-esteem that's down in the dumps ECT.) They are relatable, with their only "deifying" characteristic is their boundless kindness.
You can't even say it's their foresight because metas exist.
In conclusion, Cass is Gotham's adopted stupidly kind child in my head.
As for the other two (usopp and buggy)...
They'd probably be able to accidentally manipulate entire armies, i don't think a cult would be an issue
Anyway, Harley, Buggy, Mihawk and Ivy would drag Bruce to their "talk shit about our exes and old coworkers" club
And Bruce can't even protest since crime rate is at an all time low, thanks to the Joker being out of the picture, the cropping up of more crime lords who aren't actually evil and are allying with the Red Hood, RichPeopleNotBeingAssholes™ (vivi, the Waynes..), and the Strawhats.
Cass is very glaringly human, but Cass is also, like, extremely private with their thoughts and feelings. The readers don't get to see it as much because we're 1. Primarily in Cass's head and 2. See Cass with Luffy most of the time, who they are extremely open with. But Luffy (and the rest of the crew) are outliers.
I'd say Gotham wouldn't see a lot of Cass's more human flaws out in the open. The Rogues and Bats do, but the average citizen? They'd likely just see this extremely competent, kind and supernaturally knowledgeable person going around helping people.
Honestly, Cass could probably pull of being Gotham's little meow meow adopted child and one of their deities at the same time. Like, yes, that is Gotham's resident future teller god thing, that is also Gotham' specialist little boy right along side Brucie Wayne and his army of children. Yes, Cass constantly kicks ass and protects people, Gotham would also go to war if anyone made them cry.
It probably wouldn't be the weirdest thing in Gotham and I feel like the mass of so many different seemingly ccombating things fits Cass well
I think Jimbei should also be allowed to join the "talk shit about our exes and old coworkers" club by virtue of being a former warlord. You can't tell me he doesn't have shit to say about Doffy and Moria
SPEAKING OF WARLORDS
Bonney and Kuma retire in Gotham and live happily ever after. I'd say I don't make the rules but I actually do so
#night’s bedtime stories#sunny d cassandra#asks and answers#one piece oc#one piece#batfamily#batman#seven warlords#strawhats in gotham#I'm going to need to make a post about the Gotham/metropolis beef in this au at some point#I just know the Strawhats and all the OP characters in general make it so much worse#Also Superboy (kon) and the Seraphim

for the record every monkey d luffy i will ever draw: 🏳️⚧️
#modposts#it was more clear in the image originally#but then i was like 'he should lean into them more' and so#i mean its pretty much safe to assume i think every character i draw is trans as long as i like them but i make it a point for luffy to#always be generally visibly transgender#its because of his voice. both in jpn and in english#i cannot in good faith say that man is cis#and also because hes hot and i like him. but thats why i think every strawhat is trans. its not unique to luffy

i take umbrage with this honestly. oda definitely flubbed on quite a few things when it comes to his female cast (e.g. being weaker on average than the male cast, the way they're drawn, sanji as a whole) but i still feel he writes them with the same depth and humanity that he gives his male characters. nami and robin aren't just good characters in comparison to other shonen female mcs, they're genuinely some of the best written in the series and certainly my top picks for best written strawhat. i don't agree that their importance dwindles after their respective arcs, as their development after said arcs is constantly shown throughout the series (e.g. robin being more open with the crew and trusting that they'll be there to help her).

One Piece (Manga/Anime, 1997/1999)
Explain your reasoning in the tags!
#i know this is about women in one piece overall and not just in the strawhats#but of course nami and robin are our two most prominent examples of how oda writes women and i generally think he did a great job with them#of course his writing isn't perfect. there are female characters whom i have issues with (mainly hancock and tashigi)#but these specific examples aren't enough for me to say that oda is just bad overall with his female cast

description: you have a hard time picking a dress for dinner whilst in kaya's mansion. zoro (sort of) helps!
tags: strawhat!reader, female reader, fluff, kissing, confessions, no use of "y/n", special straw hat appearances (nami & luffy), soft zoro
author's note: i'm a sucker for dress-up scenes so i KNEW i was gonna write smth like this once that ep3 scene started playing. reader chooses a dress at the end; dress is non-described so you can imagine your ideal dress!

You were on Nami and Zoro’s side when it came to whatever was going on in Syrup Village. Kaya’s mansion made you feel vaguely unsettled, and stepping into the building made your heart pound quicker than you would like to admit. But if there was one thing that piqued your interest, it was the order of changing clothes for dinner. You’d been stuck in the same few outfits for weeks now, and the promise of something new—and formal—was nearly exciting, although you’d never admit it in front of Nami and her disapproving gaze.
Kaya’s kindness combined with the private guest room and bath you were treated to helped soothe your nerves. Soon you found yourself being led to the giant closet the rest of the Straw Hats were already in—Nami was trying on various different pieces, and Zoro seemed to have something in hand too.
“Ah, there you are!” Luffy said, swiveling on his heel and giving you a big grin as you entered the room. You stared in disbelief at all of the racks around you. Hell, there were even clothes hanging from the ceiling.
“Well, we certainly have a lot of options,” you said, skimming a hand over a nearby rack. There were a variety of different fabrics, but they all felt expensive: silk and velvet, damasks and brocades. “I don’t even know where to start.”
“I’m just trying on anything,” Nami called from where she was, before stepping out from the room divider she’d been changing behind. She wore an emerald dress with a plunging neckline, the patterned silk clinging to her curves, and did a little spin. “What do you think?”
Luffy shrugged. Zoro wrinkled his nose, barely glancing up from the armchair he was lounging on. “I think it looks nice,” you offered, but Nami still seemed dissuaded.
“Ugh, these two are impossible. What are you going to wear?”
“Uh, I’m getting there,” you said with a little laugh. “It’s a bit overwhelming; I’d rather help you guys pick first. Luffy, have you found something yet?” You turned towards the man in the center of the room, who nodded enthusiastically.
“Yeah, I found this!” He raised up a black waistcoat. You frowned at it.
“Um, Luffy, waistcoats are supposed to be worn with a suit,” you said, then paused, seeing his blank look. “...Never mind.”
“And I’m wearing black,” Zoro added, despite the piece of clothing slung along his lap definitely not being black. You exchanged a glance with Nami, who just rolled her eyes. They’re stupid, she mouthed, then returned to the rack she was glancing through. She worked quickly, pulling out various numbers that she scrutinized before either setting on the couch beside her or putting back.
“Okay,” you said slowly. “Need me to find you some pants with that, Cap?” Nami and Zoro let out identical groans as you spoke the pet name, both turning to give you exasperated looks. You suppressed your laugh.
“Stop calling him that,” Zoro said with a tired sigh. “You’re encouraging him.”
“Kind of the point, yeah,” you said cheerfully. While Zoro and Nami were both still largely unconvinced about the whole pirate crew thing, you’d joined the bandwagon rather quickly. Zoro rolled his eyes, and you turned towards the racks to find Luffy some slacks. “Assumedly you need something other than that shirt too?”
“I’ll look later,” Zoro said passively. You watched him out of your peripheral vision. He was outfitted in a patterned kimono, his three swords slung along his lap. He didn’t seem too interested in his surroundings, though what he was doing, you weren’t sure. You let him be, turning to page through the racks of clothes again. Finally you found a pair of slacks that seemed like they’d fit Luffy.
“Here,” you said, passing them over to him. “And find some shoes while you’re at it.”
“Why does she even have clothes that don’t fit her?” Zoro murmured, sounding as baffled as he could get. “What, she just casually has clothes in all four of our sizes hanging around?”
“Rich people own things just to own them,” Nami called. She’d changed again; this dress had a halter neckline and was blush pink. Zoro motioned with a hand at it, and Nami frowned, glancing down at the dress. “You don’t like it?”
“Eh,” Zoro said. Nami made a face.
“At this point I think you’re hating just to hate.” She pulled up a few more options, narrowing her eyes as she surveyed them. Luffy was seemingly satisfied with what you’d given him, because he took the pieces off of their hangers and slung them over his shoulder.
“I’m off,” he announced. “Gonna go change in my room and do some exploring before dinner. Have fun!” With that, he left, and Nami sighed, turning towards you. She held up her final two options—a red cheongsam with delicate gold embroidery and a pastel blue dress with an a-line skirt. You gnawed on your bottom lip as you studied the two.
“I think the blue one might wash you out a bit,” you said eventually; it’d clash with her hair no doubt, and make her skin look even paler. The shade wasn’t a right match with her eyes, either. “I like the cheongsam; I think you should go with that one. It contrasts nicely with your hair.”
Nami raised up the dress again, inspecting it. “You’re right,” she said, ducking back behind the room divider to change. You started pursuing the racks again; Nami stepped out a few moments later, successfully outfitted in her new dress. “Okay, I’m going to go do my hair in my guest room. Good luck.”
“Bye,” you called, watching as she left the room. You clicked your tongue, almost alone now and with absolutely zero options of clothing. As much as you liked the idea of new clothes, the abundance of options was starting to seem a little daunting. “Okay, now that Nami’s done, it’s my turn to play dress-up.”
Zoro laughed from where he sat, and you startled, almost having forgotten he was there. He was watching you attentively, his attention having diverted from whatever it was he’d been thinking about earlier. “You like this kind of thing?”
“Well, I mean.” You shrugged, peering at a few of the pieces on the rack in front of you. You pulled out a deep green dress, eyeing the lace by the neckline before setting it back. “It’s kind of fun, isn’t it?”
“Not really what I’m into.”
“You wear jewelry, so clearly you have some fashionable instinct,” you pointed out, bending over to glance at the clothes hiding by your knees. These were all skirts or unreasonably short dresses, with so little fabric you were uncertain they would cover anything at all. “Unless the earrings are for another reason…?”
“Three swords, three earrings.”
“Makes sense. What are you wearing with your shirt?” You glanced back to see Zoro’s answer, but he merely shrugged. “Do you want me to find you some trousers? A suit?”
“You don’t need to find clothes for me. I can do that myself.” Still, Zoro made absolutely no move to do so. You rolled your eyes, but turned your attention back on what you’d be wearing for the dinner. Vaguely you wondered how Zoro would look wearing a suit. You flushed almost as soon as the thought popped into your head, shoving it into the very back of your skull and banishing it from seeing the light of day.
“If you say so,” you said instead, mostly to distract yourself from the beyond inappropriate thoughts starting to run through your head. Honestly, you barely knew your crew mates—the four of you were close to tearing each other’s throats out before you ran into Buggy, after all. And the fact that Zoro was, well, conventionally attractive—and you tried to keep your thoughts on that and that alone, anything emotional was strictly out of the question—shouldn’t be something your mind lingered on.
You picked out the first dress that looked to be your size. It was dark purple, backless with a tight trumpet skirt. Ducking behind the room divider Nami had used, you stripped off your clothes, donning the dress. There was a mirror along the other side of the divider, and you turned, trying to appraise the dress on your figure. The color didn’t look entirely right, and you were uneasy about the lack of mobility the skirt might have—Kaya’s staff were still extremely suspicious, after all, and you’d rather be safe than sorry.
“Let me see,” Zoro called from outside. You tugged at the dress, suddenly nervous, but stepped out after you couldn’t find a good enough excuse not to. Zoro’s eyes ran up and down your figure, and you did a slow circle, showing off the dress. The bare skin of your back prickled.
“You’re not going to be able to move in it,” he eventually said.
You huffed out a breath, the nervous energy that had accumulated in your chest leaving with the action. Something in your belly stirred; disappointment, maybe, that Zoro had only commented on the practicality of the dress, not how you looked in it. But you pushed those thoughts away with an angry shove. Not the time, and definitely not the person to be thinking those sorts of things about. “Yeah, that’s what I was worried about. Let me find something else.”
Zoro’s gaze didn’t flicker from your body as you started across the room, ducking between more racks to find something. “You dead-set on a dress?”
“I haven’t worn a dress in a while,” you answered, picking out a red one before remembering Nami’s choice and setting it back. “Might as well take the opportunity.” The next one you pulled was blue, all shiny and soft. The material looked like some kind of tender silk. You set it aside to try on. “Why?”
“Haven’t seen either you or Nami in a dress before.”
“Actually, you have. I’m wearing one right now and Nami tried like five on earlier,” you said, glancing over your shoulder to shoot Zoro an unimpressed look. He scoffed, though there was a smile at the edges of his mouth as he turned his head away. Your next choice was soft pink, and made of tulle that vaguely resembled a puff pastry. You pulled it up. “Think I should try it?”
“I mean, pick whatever,” Zoro said, though he seemed mildly disgusted by the amount of fabric the skirt had, all bunched up with layers like something a ballerina might wear. “What are you trying to achieve with the dress?”
“What am I—I’m trying to look nice, Zoro,” you said, stifling your laughter. You set the pink dress back, replacing it with a sage green number instead. “Not everything has ulterior motives.”
“You always look nice.”
You froze, a soft chill curling around the back of your neck. Carefully, you straightened up from where’d you been bent over yet another rack of clothes, turning to look Zoro in the eye. His eyes hadn’t moved. “Oh,” you managed out, throat all dry and tongue like sandpaper in your mouth. “Well, thank you.”
Zoro cleared his throat, a dull noise he made in the hollow of his throat without even parting his lips. His gaze flickered away. “Yeah. Go try those on.”
Wordlessly, you stepped back behind the room divider and slipped on the blue dress. It had a texture like water—it was some kind of high-end silk, flexible enough that it was near liquid in movement. The dress itself fell to your ankles, and had a simple square neckline. You stepped outside, doing another slow twirl. “Better,” Zoro said.
“Better how?”
“You can probably run in it.”
You twisted your lips, trying to suppress the urge to turn them down into a frown. “Okay. It’s not doing it for me.” You ducked back behind the divider to change yet again; the sage green one was satin, with long sleeves and a neckline you hadn’t anticipated would be that deep.
Still, upon exiting the divider and turning for Zoro again, he didn’t have any worthwhile feedback. “It’s kind of plain,” he said eventually, not meeting your eyes.
You huffed, crossing your arms over your chest; you had to almost resist stomping over to the racks to find something more, and spent another few minutes gathering dresses and trying them on.
To your immense disappointment, each one garnered little to no reaction from Zoro. You even shoved on one of the tiny, too-little fabric dresses you’d disapproved of earlier, but all Zoro did was scan you from head to toe and say, rather flatly, “you’d get stabbed pretty easily in that.”
Frustration bled into your nerves as you hid behind the divider again. You glared at yourself in the mirror—your skin had started flushing with how annoyed you were getting, which might’ve been funny had you not been so ticked off. Men, you thought, irritated. Was it really so hard to tell you that you looked pretty?
He’s a bounty hunter, you had to remind yourself. He doesn’t care about this kind of thing. Besides, he was the last person you should be setting your sights on anyway. You tugged at the short dress, the hem just barely grazing the tops of your thighs.
You heard footsteps approaching from outside the divider, suddenly too close as you snapped yourself out of the reverie of thoughts you’d been lost in. Zoro turned the corner, arm propped up against the divider edge as he peered in, brows furrowed. “You stopped coming out,” he said. He was still in his kimono, swords tossed over one shoulder. The shirt he had was, assumedly, left on the couch he’d finally stood up from.
“I’m frustrated,” you told him blandly. His frown deepened.
“Because of… clothing?”
You suppressed the sigh that threatened to escape your lungs. “Never mind. I’m fresh out of ideas.” You pushed past Zoro, opting to stand in the center of the room as if analyzing it from a different view would magically give you more options. Zoro turned to stare, still looking perplexed. “With so many options, it’s hard to make up my mind, that’s all.”
“Uh huh.” Zoro was still studying you. “Did I do something?”
“What? No,” you said hastily. Too hastily. The words had ripped out of your throat like a hiccup, and you seriously needed to learn how to lie a bit better because now Zoro’s expression was even more confused. “No. Why would I be mad at you?”
“I don’t know. That’s why I’m asking.”
“It’s nothing,” you insisted, turning away from Zoro to stare at some of the clothes hanging on the wall above his head. These were too high up to properly look at, and as you stepped back, you glanced through the dresses hanging off the arch of the ceiling. You perused them without too much interest, eyes glancing over the various colors and fabrics until—
Zoro stepped next to you. “Hey,” he said, and you jolted, head snapping down to look at him. You let out a noise of irritation, then turned your focus back on the ceiling.
Your gaze flickered through the racks until finally falling on one particular dress hanging by the mouth of the room. It was somewhat hidden, tucked in a little corner beside a few other pieces, but from your vantage point it seemed about your size.
You took a step closer to it, surveying it with your neck craned. The material looked soft and comfortable but it still retained shape, and the color—even in the dim lighting of the closet—was one of your favorites. The undertone would suit your skin perfectly. And, well, you didn’t want to put all your bets on one dress you hadn’t even touched, but it was certainly promising.
Zoro stepped past you, barely exerting any effort to reach up and bring the dress down from where it hung up high. “This one, right?” he asked, and you swallowed, some of the annoyances you had towards him dissolving as he extended the dress hanger towards you. You nodded wordlessly, taking it. You stood there for a second before Zoro gestured with his head towards the divider. “Go try it on.”
You did so, retreating safely behind your wall and stepping out of the little dress. You surveyed the one Zoro had grabbed for you again, heart lodged in your throat. It really was beautiful, and exactly your style; now that you saw it up close, you could safely affirm it was your size too, but nervousness still pulsed through your veins at it.
Carefully, you slipped it on, adjusting the fabric around your hips and fixing up the neckline to rest evenly on your skin.
Zoro spoke out from the rest of the room. “So why are you mad at me?”
“I’m not—” you sighed, dropping your arms before returning to fiddle with the dress. “I’m not mad at you.”
“Is it because I wasn’t being helpful with the clothes? Because I already said that’s not exactly my area of expertise—”
“It’s not because of the clothes, Zoro,” you said sharply, cutting him off. Zoro clicked his tongue, the sound reverberating around the room and thudding in time with your heartbeat. You turned your attention back onto your reflection. “It’s just me being silly. Don’t worry about it.”
‘I’m worrying about it,” Zoro deadpanned. You sighed, adjusting the dress one final time before arranging your hair and staring at yourself in the mirror. It fit you perfectly, emphasizing all the right places and hiding all the parts of your body you were more insecure about. “Changed yet?”
“Yeah,” you said, voice limp.
“Let me see.”
You bit your lip, suddenly nervous about how he’d react. Knowing him, it’d be something like it’s okay or the color’s fine; perhaps can you even walk in that? or weird shape if he was feeling a little more critical. Still, you stepped out anyway, not meeting Zoro’s eyes as you spun for him, letting him look at the dress from all angles. When you’d finished posing you glanced up, eyes meeting him tentatively.
“It’s…” Zoro cleared his throat, ripping his gaze away from the dress on your figure to flicker up to your face. His gaze dropped again nearly as fast, like he couldn’t bear to keep eye contact. “Uh.”
“It’s what?” you prompted, turning to face the nearest mirror. Your lips twisted into a worried frown, turning to glance at the dress again. Was it really not as perfect as you’d thought originally? “Do you like it? It’s my favorite so far, I think, but if you don’t like it—”
“You look pretty in that,” Zoro blurted, cutting your rambles off with the strident, too-loud sentence. You froze, eyes flickering to meet him in the mirror. Carefully, he glanced up at you, and you could see his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed hard.
“Oh.”
Zoro coughed, averting his gaze as you slowly turned around to face him. You couldn’t see properly with the less-than-ideal lighting of the room, but his face seemed to have taken on a ruddier complexion. “I like it,” he said, words softer than they’d been before. “It’s the one.”
There was a little rush of something through your veins, and you felt vaguely lightheaded. “Okay,” you barely managed to squeak out. “Thanks.” You stumbled back behind the divider, sucking in a deep breath and trying to regulate your breathing. God, this was actually shameful at this point.
You composed yourself quickly, gathering all the dresses you’d tried on and abandoned to return to their proper places. Zoro was still watching you attentively, and you glanced over your shoulder at him. Sparks prickled along your skin as your eyes met. “What?” you asked.
“You’re acting weird.”
“Am not.”
Zoro stood up, rolling back his shoulders and stretching his head from side to side. He glanced through the racks and, without even a minute’s hesitation, plucked a suit jacket and matching pants out from beside him. “Yeah, you are. What’s up?”
“You’re just grabbing those without thinking about it?” you demanded, eager to change the subject. Zoro rolled his eyes.
“I picked them like fifteen minutes ago,” he said. “Just didn’t grab them until you were done your whole… thing. Now spill it. You’re all red again.”
You swiveled towards the closest mirror, unable to suppress your gape as you saw that your skin had indeed turned a distinctive shade of scarlet, flushed undertones creeping their way up your skin. It was entirely recognizable even in the terrible lighting. Even your skin was treacherous, now. “Nothing,” you muttered, unable to meet Zoro’s eyes as you spit it out. “I was annoyed because you weren’t telling me what you thought of the dresses.”
“I… did, though?” Zoro said, perplexed. You let out a grating sigh, cheeks flaring even hotter now that he was forcing you to confess the entire extent of your sins.
“Yeah, like, practically,” you said, wrapping your arms defensively over your chest. “You’ll get stabbed in that so easily. You won’t be able to walk. I just wanted you to tell me that—” you cut yourself off with another groan. “Don’t make me say it.”
Zoro blinked. “I have no idea what you’re edging towards, so you’re going to have to say it.”
“I just wanted you to tell me I looked nice!” you finally burst out, turning so you wouldn’t have to look at Zoro’s face. God, you were going to have to quit the Straw Hats after this. It was so entirely stupid.
“But—” There was a laugh in Zoro’s voice, and you glared down at the floor, all of your dignity having left you by this point. You had no shame left to feel anymore. “I said ‘you always look nice’. Doesn’t that insinuate—”
“That’s not the point,” you said hotly, tone almost argumentative now. “I wanted you to think I looked pretty in a dress, Zoro.”
Zoro didn’t respond for a moment, brows creasing and face taking on a baffled expression. “But why—” Zoro cut himself off, and you turned even redder, holding your breath as he finally connected the dots. A single word fell from his lips, like a soft breath of air as he spoke. “Oh.”
“Oh,” you muttered under your breath, unable to stop the almost whining tone your voice took on. Zoro stepped closer to you, a hand wrapping around your wrist and forcing you to look up at him.
“I said you looked pretty in this one.”
“I know,” you insisted, still all red, “which is why I’m not totally mad at you, but—”
“You looked pretty in all of them,” Zoro said. He didn’t look bashful, per se—you didn’t think Zoro could get shy—but his voice was low, all hoarse in a more tentative way rather than one of his grating remarks this time. “For the record.”
Your breath caught.
“This one’s my favorite, though,” Zoro muttered. And then he was leaning down to kiss you, the ghost of his lips just on the corner of your mouth. You gaped up at him in shock as he averted his gaze, staring at some spot about your head. “Was that—” he started, before clearing his throat and trying again with a little more of his dignity this time. “Was that okay?”
“Yes,” you blurted fervently, and before you could fix up the moment with something more, well, suitable, your big mouth ruined it for you. “But I think we’re holding up dinner. You should get changed, and I still need to find shoes.”
You bit your tongue immediately after the words had been said, but it was too late—Zoro coughed, turning away from you. You panicked, and now it was your turn to grab his arm and tug you towards him. “Wait!”
Zoro glanced down at you, perplexed, and then you leaned up to kiss him square on the mouth. He stumbled back, surprised, but adjusted quickly, hand going to cradle the back of your neck and pressing you right to him before you finally broke apart.
“You should steal it,” he started. You stared up at him in question. “The dress, I mean. You should steal it.”
“When am I ever going to need to wear this again?” you asked, perplexed. Zoro shrugged, fingers tugging at the edge of the dress's neckline.
“Dunno. Just take it. She probably won’t even notice.”
“You’re adorable,” you teased; Zoro wrinkled his nose but didn’t complain, opting instead to move away and pick up the clothes he still hadn’t changed into. “Go change. See you at dinner.”
“Yeah,” Zoro said, his eyes not straying from your figure as you ducked out of the room. Before you could fully leave, though, Zoro grabbed your wrist, spinning you around towards him.
You didn’t have enough time to ask what he was doing when he leaned around to kiss you one final time, his hands cradling your face as your lips moved against each other. It was only a moment later that he stepped away, looking rather sheepish but not very apologetic as he finally let you go.
“You look more than pretty,” he murmured, eyes sinking into yours, and your throat dried, any words you might’ve formed dying away within seconds. “You always look more than pretty. You look gorgeous.”
“Thank you,” you whispered, and then he ducked back inside the closet to change.

♡・゚𓏸 Strawhats General Romance HC 𓏸・゚♡

♡ Characters: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, Franky, Nami, Robin, gn!reader ♡ Warnings: Mild suggestiveness, affection, fluff, a hint of perviness (Franky/Sanji), emotional softness, use of Y/N
𓏸⋆。˚☁️˚。⋆𓏸
🍖 Monkey D. Luffy
Doesn’t “get” romance in a traditional sense—just knows he likes being with you
PDA KING: hugs, kisses, clinging, piggybacks, sleepy snuggles—he doesn’t care who's watching
You’re part of his “treasure,” just like his hat or the Sunny
Always shares his meat with you = highest love language
Excitedly shows you off: “Isn’t my partner the coolest?!”
Kisses you out of nowhere just because the thought hit him
Never jealous, but very possessive (“They’re mine, okay?”)
If you’re sad, he’ll do something dumb to make you laugh, no hesitation
♡。゚☁︎。♡゚
You’re lounging on the grass of the Sunny’s deck, sketchbook resting on your knees, when Luffy drops beside you like a sack of bricks—arms already wrapping around you like he belongs there (because in his mind, he absolutely does).
“Draw me!” he announces, beaming.
“I’m literally in the middle of something—”
“Draw me anyway! I’m cooler than the ocean!”
You raise a brow, unimpressed. “You’re blocking the sun.”
He squints up at the sky, then grins. “Good. Now it can’t burn you. I’m protecting you.”
You sigh, but he catches your smile before you can hide it. He plants a quick kiss on your cheek, grinning like he just won something.
“I like when you smile at me,” he says. “So I’m staying here forever.”
⚔️ Roronoa Zoro
A man of few words, but deep loyalty
Not into PDA… unless he's drunk, injured, or real worked up
Shows love through actions: carrying stuff, training with you, always keeping you in his line of sight
Would literally rather die than say “I love you”… but “I’ll protect you” hits just as hard
Naps with you in quiet corners like it’s the safest place on earth
Notices when you’re upset even if you don’t say anything
Never pressures you to talk—just sits with you in the silence
Compliments are rare but hit like a truck: “You fight good.”
♡。゚☁︎。♡゚
It’s quiet in the crow’s nest as you stretch out across the floor, sun leaking in through the glass above. Zoro’s already settled nearby, arms crossed, swords propped neatly behind him.
You close your eyes, letting the warmth lull you. “You always nap here?”
“Sometimes,” he mutters.
You peek at him through one eye. “Because it’s quiet?”
He pauses. “Because you’re here.”
You blink.
He doesn’t look at you, just leans his head back against the wall and closes his eyes. “...Don’t read into it.”
But when you shift closer, he doesn't stop you. Just opens one hand, palm-up, and waits.
You take it without a word. He squeezes once.
🍳 Vinsmoke Sanji
Peak gentleman behavior: doors opened, chairs pulled, “after you, my love~”
Cooks for you constantly—meals tailored exactly to your tastes
Doesn’t flirt with anyone else once you’re his. Eyes. Only. For. You.
Genuinely thinks you’re out of his league and tries so hard to be worthy
Shows love through service: food, comfort, acts of care
Swoons constantly—every look, smile, or compliment makes him melt
Big on romantic moments: dancing on the deck, candlelit dinners, stargazing
Jealousy is his fatal flaw—he trusts you, but hates other men looking at you
♡。゚☁︎。♡゚
You lean against the galley doorway, watching Sanji work—spinning pans, slicing vegetables with the grace of a man who was born to impress.
“I hope you’re hungry, mon trésor,” he calls, noticing you. “Dinner is almost as perfect as you are.”
You roll your eyes playfully. “If you keep talking like that, I’m gonna kiss you in front of the crew.”
He stumbles mid-stir.
You walk over, and before he can recover, you lean up and kiss his cheek. He completely shuts down—face flushed, smoke practically curling from his ears.
“I—I wasn’t prepared—”
“You never are,” you tease, sitting at the counter.
He turns away with a lovesick groan. “One day you’ll kill me and it will be delicious.”
🛠️ Usopp
SO frazzled when you get together, he barely believes it’s real
Tries to act cool and confident… ends up stammering every time you smile at him
You had to make the first move—he was too scared of scaring you off 😭
Not a fan of PDA; too flustered—but interlocked pinkies? Yes please
Loves your company while he’s tinkering, especially if you ask questions or bring snacks
Tries so hard to impress you with his tall tales—“Yeah, I once fought a sea king with one hand tied behind my back!”
Wants to protect you… but let’s be real, you’ll probably be the one pulling him out of danger
Will burst into flames if you tease him or call him handsome—please, he is fragile
♡。゚☁︎。♡゚
You settle beside him as he fiddles with a new gadget, oil smudged on his fingers and one eye squinted shut.
“Is that one of your new noise traps?” you ask, propping your chin on your hand.
Usopp jumps. “Y-yeah! Uh, I mean—of course! It’s… a top-secret, high-powered… thing! For… pirates. Bad ones. Very bad ones!”
You smile. “Sounds impressive.”
He turns pink down to his collar. “W-well, you know me! Captain Usopp! Sniper of the—”
You brush his hair back from his forehead. He malfunctions like a broken music box. “Oh no. No no no. D-don’t look at me like that. I will melt. I will catch fire.”
You giggle and lace your pinky with his, and he just sits there, stunned and smiling like an idiot.
🔧 Franky
HIGH ENERGY BOYFRIEND 🚨💥 but so sweet to you it’s unreal
Constantly hypes you up: “LOOK AT MY SUPER BABE!!”
PDA-heavy but not shy about it being a little saucy 😏
Probably made you a robot heating pad for cramps. Or a body pillow that feels like him. Or a transforming plushie bed.
Loves when you hang out with him while he works—extra points if you hand him tools or wear his goggles
Brings you up in every convo: “Y/N said that once!” “Me and Y/N do that too!” “You know who loves this? Y/N.”
Shows you off to everyone like you’re the best invention he’s ever made
His fridge-chest is your new snack drawer, but ONLY if you’re nice and say “please” with a kiss
Big cuddles, big laughs, and big hands roaming—he’s part cuddle-pillow, part perv, and all yours 💙
♡。゚☁︎。♡゚
You flop onto his lap as he tightens bolts on his newest invention, arms flinging wide.
“Baaaabe, I’m boooored.”
Franky grins down at you over his shades, one eyebrow cocked. “You’re laying on a human-sized, fully-modified snack vending machine, sweetheart. Bored? Never heard of her.”
You tap his chest and it opens with a satisfying psssht!—a row of your favorite treats neatly stashed inside.
“I rest my case,” he says, beaming like a man who just invented love.
You take a candy bar and nuzzle into his chest. It’s warm. Soft. Heated. Literally.
“Did you mod yourself to be comfier for me?” you ask, squinting up at him.
He kisses your forehead, unapologetically smug. “Damn right I did.”
🧡 Nami
She definitely goes easier on you when you mess up—still scolds you, but there’s a soft spot 🥺
If you’re good and make her laugh, she might even forgive your debts (temporarily...)
Loves being spoiled: praise, kisses, shoulder rubs, gifts—she laps it up like sunshine
Loves styling you up: matching outfits, cute accessories, doing your makeup with soft concentration
Hand-holding in public is a must, especially when she’s dragging you to the next boutique
You will carry her bags. She will kiss your cheek for it, so it's fine.
Late night giggles under shared blankets, secrets whispered while the crew sleeps
She’s a little possessive, but it’s cute—flashes a smile that says “They’re mine, back off~”
She won’t say "I need you"—she says, “Don’t be late coming back, okay?”
♡。゚☁︎。♡゚
You're perched on the edge of her bed, shirt halfway buttoned, as Nami flits around the room gathering accessories. She returns with a pair of sunglasses and a patterned scarf, eyes gleaming with satisfaction.
“Okay, sit still—don’t make that face, I’m making you beautiful,” she teases, already fluffing your hair.
“Was I not beautiful before?” you ask, mock-offended.
She leans in with a sly grin, her hands sliding to your shoulders. “You were cute. I’m upgrading you to iconic.”
When she’s done, she pulls out her compact mirror and positions you both in the reflection—your outfits perfectly coordinated, colors matching like a magazine spread.
She smiles, satisfied. “Perfect.”
You beam at her.
“Now,” she adds, handing you four heavy shopping bags. “Let’s go out. You’ll be my arm candy and my pack mule.”
You laugh. She grabs your hand.
And honestly? You’d carry a hundred more.
📚 Nico Robin
She’s not subtle with her flirting—loves to watch you short-circuit when she purrs your name
Has so much fun teasing you in front of the crew with sultry whispers and sly smiles
Remembers every little thing you love and weaves it into surprises, snacks, reading recs, affection
Doesn’t do flashy PDA, but always keeps a soft hand on you—knee against yours, pinkies touching
At night, it’s a different story: kisses to your temple, warm cuddles, whispered reassurance
She’s your safety net when you fall apart—calm, warm, and steady
Lets you lay on her chest while she reads, fingers absently brushing your back
Her love is quiet but ever-present. You never have to ask—you just know
She smells like paper and jasmine and home. You’d live in her arms if you could.
♡。゚☁︎。♡゚
The ship is quiet, lit only by the soft orange glow of the reading lamp beside her. You curl up beside Robin in the library nook, your head resting against her chest while she flips a page with elegant fingers.
Her heartbeat is steady beneath your ear. Her hand brushes over your arm, slow and reassuring.
“You were teasing me so bad earlier,” you murmur, voice muffled against her blouse.
“I was,” she agrees, not denying it for a second.
You glance up at her, cheeks warm. “It’s cruel how good you are at it.”
She closes her book, setting it aside, and tilts your chin up gently with two fingers. “You’re easy to fluster. And very, very pretty when you’re trying not to show it.”
You sigh, defeated, and press your face back against her, hiding in the scent of old books and jasmine. Her arms come around you without question.
“I don’t always know what I’m doing,” you admit softly. “But I feel better when I’m with you.”
She doesn’t respond right away. Just kisses your forehead and holds you close, lips brushing your skin as she whispers, “Then stay here. You don’t have to know everything. You just have to rest.”
And in her arms, you do.

You're just so cute!
Part 1 Strawhats x affectionate! reader Can be read as platonic or romantic Synopsis: You love giving out compliments, especially to your crew mates. Characters: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, and Nami
LUFFY
Likes the compliments, especially after Nami berates him.
LOVES compliments on his strength the most, but will beam if you call him smart(since no one else does TT)
Call him pirate king or the greatest pirate and he'll fold immediately.
He is fine with it generally.
Except for being called cute.
Will 1000% pout about it, especially if you call him that in front of Usopp or Chopper cause he wants to be cool yk?
"I'm not cute! What type of pirate is cute!"
Eventually will come around to it begrudgingly(he secretly enjoys it), but will also say it back to you to get you annoyed.
Backfires so bad.
Will try to compliment you back but he kinda sucks.
"You smell like the best meat in the world!"
— Or he is actually very heartfelt and deep out of nowhere
"I love how your eyes dance with the stars."
ZORO
Hates it
Ok he doesn't ACTUALLY hate it, but will act like he does
He will get all fussy about it like "Yeah, whatever." and huff off somewhere.
Will blush anytime you say anything nice about him(all the time) but NEVER lets you see it.
Actually comes to love the attention from you.
ESPECIALLY about his strength and skill.
Call him the best swordsman ever and you MIGHT see him blush since he'll be so off guard. Just might.
Will compliment you back in private, especially if you're dating.
Isn't one to focus on looks when appreciating someone, but will if you just did. Mostly points out your skills.
After some time, he won't feel embarrassed at all and will get a little cocky.
"You are so cool!" "Of course I am."
"Wow Zoro, you are strong." "Just strong? Give me more credit."
HATES if he see's you complimenting Sanji near him.
Brags to him about how cool you say he is.
NAMI
First thinks you compliment her to get out of paying her.
"I'm not going to forgive your debt by sucking up to me."
Once she realizes it's genuine, she changes her attitude.
Feels all giddy inside whenever you say anything sweet about her.
She will smile brightly to you and say thanks whenever you do so.
Doesn't have any compliments she dislikes at all
But she appreciates complimemts on her character a lot more.
Being a (former) theif and conartist makes people have a pre conceived notion of her
So saying she's nice or kind makes her feel very happy.
Will compliment you back a lot.
Mostly on skills and character.
But she does forgive some of your debt because you are kind.
USOPP
Flustered.
He starts stuttering before saying of course!
Tries to stay cool about it but say he is cute or hot and he disappears
With his self esteem, he feels like you don't actually mean what you say.
He WILL ask for assurance if your dating
After realizing you mean it, it will make him feel better about himself
Specifically about his fighting skills
He doesn't think he is that good but you think otherwise
Feels more confident the more you appreciate his talent
Brags about it to everyone
Will uplift you too
Originally to reflect your praise, but later on as actually genuine.
SANJI
Will evaporate
This man gets soooo flustered.
If you thought Usopp was bad, he will redefine the word.
He just can't commute.
Just tries to have any response but ends up babbling.
Honestly, his flusteredness is so cute.
He will get a nosebleed and may faint depending on the type of compliment.
Call him hot or cool and he will get a nosebleed or faint.
Especially if you say he is cool.
But say he is nice—
This man will freeze.
Feels like he doesn't deserve such praise. Especially from you.
Tries to reject the compliment and compliment you back.
"B-b-but Y/N dearest, you are the most kindest, nicest person to EVER grace this earth!"
You never let him reject it.
So he just ends up accepting the praise.
May cry a little sometimes, particularly if you say he is a good person.
Man NEEDS a hug TT
Starts showing off in combat and in general so he can receive praise from you.
Will do something cool and look at you like a puppy until you notice him.
If you don't he pouts off somewhere else.
He will also brag to Zoro about how cool you think he is

DIRECTORY | PROMPT LIST | KO-FI | VALENTINES EVENT MASTERLIST
———————
Sabaody was the final hurdle before entering the New World of the Grandline, the definitive proof that the crew you were on was strong enough to brave the waters. Proof all pirates that made it here were to be taken seriously. That they were worth their bounties given, if not worthy of more. Law couldn’t help but walk with his head a little higher. He’d overheard from some of the local chatter that he wasn’t the only member of the Worst Generation to be here. In fact all of the eleven Supernova’s and their crews had docked on the Archipelago so he had to ensure he set himself apart from the rest, to be the picture of everything the said about the Surgeon of Death. While he wasn’t intentionally seeking any of the others out, he had to be ready for anything and everything, especially a confrontation with them or the Marines.
With time to kill on the relatively calm island he decided to first check the shops before heading to the auction house. He couldn’t deny that when he’d heard there was one here, he was interested and had made it a point to investigate it at some stage while he was here. But it wasn’t going anywhere just yet. Taking relaxed strides he inspected the shop fronts before finally having his attention grabbed by a bookshop. Stepping inside he began to curiously appraise the shelves, not particularly in search for anything in particular but given the size of the shop and variety of books he was sure he wasn’t going to leave empty handed.
Then buried in the wrong section was a medical tome he had been searching for. It was rare and not letting the chance go to waste he reached for it only for another hand to grab it too. Law’s grip tightened possessively, ready to do whatever was necessary to ensure he got this book. He hoped just by making it known he was a pirate would be enough to intimidate this person and get what he wanted. Looking down with a fierce glare he froze to see you looking up at him with equal determination for the book. For a moment Law felt shaken, his goal momentarily forgotten.
He’d seen your picture at a glance in your bounty poster but hadn’t paid it much attention, more interested in the trouble your Strawhat Captain was getting himself and the rest of you into. In person though? It was so different. Law was never one to be thrown by superficial things like looks-not including cute things- but he couldn’t stop staring at your face, pulled in by the sharp gleam in your eyes and purse of your lips as you were readying yourself for the same fight he had been before setting eyes on your face. Quickly he was snapped out of his daze when you pulled the book out of the shelf and he regained his grip on it. “I grabbed it first.”
“No you didn’t.” You argued, refusing to back down. “I need this book, for my crewmate.”
“If they're a skilled enough Doctor then they won’t need it.” Law stated, trying to come up with some sort of argument in the hopes to convince you to let it go but instead you smirked at him.
“Is this your way of saying you’re a bad doctor?” Law was taken aback and felt heat prickle up the back of his neck at both your comment and at how your playful smile made his heart skip slightly. “Do you need the book for more training?”
“I don’t need training.”
“So you’re a skilled doctor?” You smiled, eyes glinting.
“One of the best.” Law affirmed but felt nervous at that when you stepped closer, you hold staying firm on the book.
“So you don’t need the book?” You posed the question sweetly and Law cursed himself for getting backed into a corner from the stupid argument he made. He had to get this stupid infatuation that blindsided him from nowhere under control. All this time he considered your Captain the biggest troublemaker but now he wasn’t so sure the more he stared at you, and he wanted to keep staring at you.
He was about to speak when from behind him a couple kids ran by excited to get to the section beyond you both were all the books and comics suited for their ages sat. The brief second was enough distraction for Law as he moved to avoid getting knocked into by the kids and you managed to slip the book out of his hold. With a hum of satisfaction you immediately wasted no time in moving towards the register to pay. Only to get stopped a few steps away by Law’s hand on your arm. You glanced at the tattooed hand, silently impressed by the strength in his grip. You looked up at his serious expression and smiled before giving a sigh. As fun as it was you had to meet up with the others soon. Law stared down at you, conflicted; annoyingly so. Why did he not want to fight you about the book he’d been searching years for? His fingers twitched against your arm, telling himself to be rational and ignore how his heart was beating at a pace faster than usual. Quickly he dropped his hand. “I…I hope your doctor appreciates how valuable that book is.”
“What’s the catch?” You asked with a curious smile. “Planning to steal it after I buy it?”
“What? No. I just…I saw it here didn’t I? I’m confident I’ll come across it again.” Law explained tightly.
“Aww, you’re a romantic at heart. Believing in fate, even if it is about a book, it’s unexpected but cute.” Cute? Law’s face froze once more as he tried to deny the accusation. Why did you make his so flustered and tongue-tied? He didn’t even know you. Thankfully you didn’t press further and turned away to buy the book, allowing him to make his exit and go to the auction house, assured you most likely wouldn’t go there.
How wrong he was. That exchange in the bookshop seemed like a pocket of calm compared to the hell that broke loose just a couple hours later. Law had stayed out of the fight you and your crew had gotten themselves into with Kuma and Kizaru and while he knew it would be best to get as far away as possible he couldn't look away. When you were hit hard and thrown backwards across the battlefield he tensed. Then one by one the Strawhats were disposed of by Kuma’s strange ability, literally vanishing. Law had his gaze on you, watching you too weak to force the power into your legs to try and escape as Luffy screamed at those remaining. When Kuma’s hand was about to make contact with your body, Law acted. Using his own ability he used his room to swap you over. He grabbed you as you slipped in and out of consciousness and hurried as fast as he could, knowing the Warlord would be aware someone intervened.
When Law had you safely in the medical room of the Polar Tang he couldn’t help but look at your face as you slept. Why had he saved you? His body just reacted before his mind could stop him. But that pang of fear he felt when he saw you-someone he only knew for a matter of seconds- get hurt and be at risk of disappearing was real. The relief he felt when you were safe in his arms was real too. It was deep and from a place that something as small of a crush couldn’t explain. Was it foolish to consider that maybe it was fate? Perhaps but that didn’t make it any less real.

✿ It's The Little Things ✿
A/N: My first time writing! Admittedly I'm very nervous, but also so excited!! Kept it simple with a small headcanon list to start, but I tried to write a decent amount for each point, and I hope that everyone is in character :0 Posting at 4am because I have no control over my life...
Summary: Little relationship things with the Strawhats. Can be interpreted as the anime/manga or the live action version of the character.
Characters: Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji
Content: SFW, G/N reader, slightest hint of angst in Sanji's part, but otherwise, pure unadulterated fluff! ✿
(Part 2 - Buggy, Shanks, Mihawk) (Part 3 - Franky, Robin, Law, Kid, Killer) (Part 4 - Crocodile, Rosinante/Corazon, Doflamingo)
Luffy
✿ He absentmindedly draws shapes on your leg, back, or whatever part of you is there as you sit together, whether you are watching the waves, or listening to one of Usopp's stories. He is almost magnetic in the way he ends up attached to you. If you're not feeling it, he will do his best to keep his hands to himself, but as soon as his focus shifts onto anything else, they're back on you, drawing little clouds and hearts. He tried, he really did!
✿ This bottomless pit inhales food like it's going out of fashion, but, much to the bewilderment of the rest of the crew, he will actually feed you from his plate as he eats, even though you are eating your own food. It may be a case of "1 for you, 5 for me," but it's almost instinctive for him; he's sharing something he's passionate about with you, and making sure that, in his eyes, you are happy, healthy and strong. He values your wellbeing more than food; you are one of the most important things in his life.
✿ Despite how chaotic he is in every aspect of his life, his presence brings you to a state of complete peace, even when he's yelling about whatever currently has his attention. Just knowing he is there comforts you in a way that nothing, and no one else can. As long as Luffy is there, being the same old Luffy he always is, you know everything will be alright in the end, and if it isn't alright, well, it isn't the end yet.
Zoro
✿ He always places a comforting hand on your head when he passes by, or ends up in the same general space as you. It's his version of a hug, a reassuring touch that he is there, and that he's happy to see you. Zoro is very subtle with his affection, at least in public, but even when it's just the two of you, he automatically defaults to the head pat. It comforts him as much as it does you, and the simple action alone conveys his feelings far better than he ever could with words.
✿ You both love silently observing everything going on around you, and it's such a comfortable silence. You just enjoy each others company while watching the world go by, with Zoro also keeping an eye out for any threats, as he does. Sometimes you end up passing silent judgement on what you see, and you have both developed this uncanny ability to gossip without saying a single word. It's honestly unnerving at times, but you are just so familiar with each others micro-expressions that it's second nature.
✿ Insults are terms of endearment. If anyone else called either of you such things, all hell would break loose - swords drawn, blood spilt, bodies hit the floor, the whole song and dance. It actually started out as a form of deflection, with both of you being far too stubborn to admit any feelings were there, even to yourselves; "No, I don't like you, shitstain, I tolerate you." - "Whatever helps you sleep at night, arseface." As you connected though, it just became your thing, and you love seeing who can come up with the funniest insults. Zoro is surprisingly creative in this regard.
Nami
✿ Nami has a habit of fixing your clothes and hair if something is out of place. It can seem overbearing to others, but she knows you appreciate the gesture. She spent years putting up walls to defend herself, and this is a safe way for her to have a little moment alone with you, giving you gentle little touches without revealing to the world just how important you are to her. It is a very grounding experience for both of you, and you end up doing the same for her on the rare occasion that she isn't completely flawless. She may purposely put things out of place so you have the opportunity to fix something too.
✿ She has an eye for the finer things, and loves getting you little trinkets, and especially pieces of jewellery, which often match or pair with hers, like pendants that fit together to make a whole shape, and such. Just don't ask her where she got them; "Shhh, you don't need to worry about that." All that matters is that you now have a tangible connection to each other, no matter how close, or far apart you are.
✿ Another person who relishes in comfortable silence. Of course you love chatting with each other, and often do so later into the night than you intended. Nami is very quick-witted and your shared snark is always so enjoyable! But it's the moments when you are doing your own thing together, basking in the warmth of that closeness that brings the most joy. Every so often, you will share something interesting or amusing, depending on what you're doing, but you always return to that silence. It's very domestic.
Usopp
✿ You both end up in regular fits of giggles, that grow into raucous laughter, before devolving into the sounds of various suffocating wildlife, which only fuels the hilarious fire. He doesn't even have to say anything at times; he just has a look, and as soon as he catches your eye with it, you absolutely lose it. The amount of nonsensical inside jokes you have is absurd in itself.
✿ Ever the storyteller, Usopp will wind down the day with you relaxing under the stars, telling you fantastical stories about the impossible feats of the great 'Captain Usopp.' His creativity and imagination are something you greatly admire, and as much as you try to stay awake to appreciate those qualities, the comfort he brings has you dropping off every time. He'll carry you to bed most nights, but sometimes he can only manage to drag you around like a corpse he's trying to hide, and he'll end up waking you up laughing about it.
✿ You automatically link your little fingers whenever you are close enough to. It doesn't even register half of the time, only realising when you need that hand or try to go your separate ways. When this happens, providing there isn't anything that needs your urgent attention, you like to dramatize your parting, playing up that this is the most painful moment of your lives! "Don't you dare let go, Usopp! We can both make it out of this alive!" - "I'm so sorry, I can't hold on any longer, and I refuse to drag you down with me." - "No! Don't say that!" - "I love you so much, but you need to let me go..." Leading to you unlinking your fingers, and exaggerated fake cries of anguish. It annoys everyone around you immensely.
Sanji
✿ You shamelessly flirt with each other, making everyone around you uncomfortable, groaning at how painful it is. You weren't together when you started playing this romantic game of chicken, giving back everything Sanji threw at you, and then some, but once you figured your feelings out, you actually developed it into a legitimate game where you attempt to be as sickening and obnoxious as possible. If there is no one grimacing, angrily telling you both to pack it in, or simply leaving the room; you aren't flirting enough. There is a points system, and you're currently in the lead. Sanji ends up caving over the things you say, and his brain loses the ability to form words, let alone string them together in a coherent sentence.
✿ Sanji always leaves a drink and a bite to eat for you to wake up to, since he isn't there in person, having to wake up much earlier to prepare the food for the day. Growing up in a restaurant, early starts are just part of his natural rhythm, so it doesn't bother him, but sometimes you try to wake up with him to at least watch the sunrise together, before going back to bed for a couple more hours. He cherishes those mornings, and there is always an extra spring in his step on those days.
✿ He takes every opportunity he can to share a glance and a warm smile, a gentle touch of your hands, or a chaste kiss with you. They are agonisingly brief moments, but Sanji needs them to get him through the day, otherwise he would just cling to you, and neither of you would get anything done! Unknown to you, these moments are also his way of reminding himself that you chose him over everyone else, that he is loved unconditionally, and that he is enough, without having to, in his opinion, burden you with his insecurities. He'll open up to you one day, and you will be able to give him verbal affirmations along with everything else~

Thoughts on Bonney and her situation? I feel so bad for her… :[
oda has always been really good at introducing information about characters through their backstories that recontextualizes a lot of their behavior in hindsight, and i think bonney is maybe one of the most skillfully done examples of this in the whole comic.
i started suspecting some time before reaching her backstory that she might be younger than she generally appears, because it struck me as consistently odd how everyone on egghead seemed to mention knowing her as a child and how fast she’d grown up, but having that information confirmed in her flashback completely changes her as a character in a way i find really compelling and fun.
like, throughout egghead i have been mentally comparing bonney a lot to law. from the start she’s playing a similar role as he does in the dressrosa saga, as the arc’s supernova ally-of-circumstance, and the similarities between them only grow deeper as we learn more about her history and motivations. bonney is really similar to law in a lot of ways; she aligns herself with the strawhats while on a revenge quest for the death of her adoptive father, who sacrificed himself in order to cure her of her childhood terminal illness.
the main difference, of course, is that bonney is twelve.
she’s twelve! and she was ten before the timeskip. which means she’s about as old in the present of the story (10-12) as law was in his flashback (10-13), or as ace and sabo were in the post-marineford flashback (10); that’s the age and maturity level she’s at. she’s twelve years old and she misses her dad. her tragedy is fresh and recent and she hasn’t quite grown around it yet, and she still has her whole future ahead of her.
i really liked the reveal that her devil fruit basically relies on her being a kid with a big imagination full of infinite possibilities. it’s very thematically resonant with her role as the emotional and narrative core of the arc set on egghead, the island of the future. any future she envisions for herself she can make real!
related to this, she also relates to religion and myth like a child does, where it all may as well be real because anything still could be. when kuma tells her about nika, she envisions someone who’s really somewhere out there in the world who she could find. the sun’s in the sky- maybe they’ll find him up on the sky islands?
and the thing is that she’s right!
bonney is a kid and the futures she dreams become real, because her ability to imagine the impossible hasn’t yet been beaten into submission by the horrible weight of reality. saturn tries to break her spirit and depower her before he kills her by crushing her ability to picture any future for herself, and it almost works.
and then there’s nika, and everything becomes possible again.

flirting gone wrong – Zoro SFW
characters: zoro roronoa x strawhat fem!reader
fluff | mild angst but happy ending | SFW
word count: 3k
Y/N had only recently become a member of the crew, yet her connection with the Strawhats seemed to transcend time. Since stepping foot on the ship, she instantly gravitated to the blunt swordsman. She found herself drawn to him with a magnetic force, taking every opportunity to engage in playful banter, causing a subtle blush to grace his cheeks and today was no different.
She frolicked over to a napping Zoro, stopping directly in front of him, grinning widely. "Hi Zoro!”
"What's it now?" he grumbled, his tone a mixture of annoyance and curiosity.
Undeterred by his initial gruffness, she flashed a playful smile, leaning casually against the mast.
"Just checking if your sense of direction has improved cutie." she teased – her words were met with a deepening scowl, but she could detect a flicker of amusement in his eye.
Zoro let out an exasperated sigh. "I told you not to call me that.”
"Why? You're cute though!" she exclaimed, her words carrying a playful melody as she clung to the mast, swaying with the gentle rhythm of the boat. The sea breeze tousled her hair, creating a whimsical backdrop to their conversation.
The swordsman rolled his eyes. “You’d think after all this time, I wouldn’t have to keep telling you. I’m not the type to get so easily flustered over compliments. It’s rather irritating, actually.”
She couldn't help but pout a little, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she continued to shower him with compliments. Part of her, sure… was doing it to mess with him, to unravel the composed facade he wore so effortlessly around everyone. Yet, beneath the teasing, a genuine crush bubbled within her. There was something about being around him that awakened her flirtatious side, butterflies thrashed around her stomach whenever he was around.
Despite the annoyance he'd been expressing, Zoro couldn't deny a faint blush that crept up on his cheeks. The way she kept egging him on, calling him all kinds of compliments and just generally being a tease.
"You know, some people might misinterpret your words as you hitting on me."
She twirled around the mast, laughing heartily, "I AM hitting on you, handsome.”
Zoro, caught off guard by her directness, raised an eyebrow. His scowl deepened as he crossed his arms,"Well, cut it out. I don't need any distractions."
"Distractions? Zoro, I'd say I'm more of an enhancement to your daily routine.”
"Well, that is not the case from my perspective, it's clear that you have little understanding of how distracting your presence can be." He grumbled, running a hand through his short hair.
"Oh, you find me that distracting?" She smirked flirtatiously, "I had no idea I had that type of effect on you, gorgeous.”
Zoro's irritation seemed to momentarily waver, his single eye narrowing as he tried to regain control of the situation. Her audacity, however, seemed to chip away at his usual stoic demeanour, only momentarily though.
""Don't get ahead of yourself, botanist. You're just—"
But before Zoro could finish his retort, she playfully cut him off, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "Just what? Too much for you to handle?”
"There's nothing too much for me to handle…" he said, his gaze flicking away from her, attempting to regain some semblance of composure, he hated the heat that settled.
"Y-You're just... too…damn irritating!"
He turned his attention back to her, meeting her gaze. "Is there any particular reason you keep pestering me? It's like you've become insufferable all of a sudden, constantly spouting your flirtatious nonsense. Looks like you’re spending too much time with that damned love cook."
She chuckled, twirling a strand of hair between her fingers. "Well, maybe I just enjoy seeing you squirm, Zoro. Besides admit it, you want to be with me sweetheart!”
"I'm not squirming." his voice was stiff as he tried to keep himself from losing his cool completely. Yet, as difficult as it was to deny, the swordsman's face was visibly flushed, his lips drawn into a tight lipped frown.
"I simply find your presence to be very annoying. Why would anyone even want to be with you?!" he snapped angrily.
Her eyes widened, resembling saucers. For a moment, she remained silent, her usual chatty demeanour replaced by an unusual quietude. It was a rare sight to witness the botanist in such a state.
"Ah... gotcha." Her words hung in the air…she hesitated, struggling to find the right words, "I won't bother you anymore. Sorry for annoying you."
Zoro stood in stunned silence as he watched her turn her back and walk away, his confusion quickly turning into regret and guilt. What just happened? He'd never seen that kind of reaction from her before, the woman who always had a witty remark ready to go.
Watching her leave with her shoulders slumped and her head hung low was a difficult sight, and the swordsman couldn't help but mumble, "I…I didn’t mean that…”
But it was too late, she was already gone.
–
She quickly scurried away to the kitchen, where she'd hoped Sanji would be and much to her luck, he was. Sanji and her had gotten extremely close since her time here so far, both similar in the sense that they would openly flirt with the object of their desires with no shame – that is, until today apparently.
Letting out a weary sigh, she slouched into the dining chair, her eyes fixed on Sanji as he methodically cleaned the kitchen. The rapport between her and Sanji had always been solid, built on shared jokes, comfort, and a mutual understanding.
"Hey Sanji."
Sanji's attention was initially diverted at the sound of his name, followed by a slight flicker of happiness upon hearing her stir behind him. He finished wiping down the counter with a rag before setting it down upon the counter next to him.
"Oh, hello there my sweet." he smirked, turning to fully face her, ready to be his usual flirty self. His demeanour shifted slightly however as soon as he noticed her downcast expression.
"Are you okay, my love?"
She sunk into the chair and groaned slightly, "Yeah...I’m okay.”
Sanji was quick to recognise that her mood was off, and it concerned him greatly. Despite their playful dynamic, he had always been one of the first ones (and sometimes the only one) to know when she was upset about something.
"Something's wrong." he spoke softly, quickly walking towards her, his hands reaching out to take both of her hands within his. "Tell me what happened."
He sat next to her and gently caressed her hand with his fingers.
“I think Zoro hates me.”
Sanji froze for a few seconds, a mix of shock and concern evident throughout his expression. He squeezed her hand tightly as a sense of frustration washed over him. It was obvious that the dumbass swordsman had feelings for her, it's just likely that he wasn't aware of it yet.
"Hate you? I don't believe that for a second, Zoro is just like that sometimes. He can be quite moody."
"Why would you think that he hates you?"
She felt tears sting her eyes, threatening to spill from them all at once but she held them back. “He said, ‘Why would anyone even want to be with you?’ I think I completely miscalculated everything, part of me thought that he had feelings for me but you didn’t see him Sanji, he was furious. He meant that.”
Her voice was so soft, fragile... he couldn't bear to see her like this. The sight of tears brimming her eyes sent a rush of anger down Sanji's spine, his teeth clenching together. His grip tightened around her hands, the sudden change in mood made evident by the dark expression on his face.
"I assure you that you are not the one miscalculating things. That guy hasn't the slightest clue about what he really feels, I've seen that look too many times. It's the face of a stupid man with no self-awareness."
She smiled weakly at him, it was clear that Sanji was trying to make her feel better. She squeezed his hand gently – an unspoken thank you because if she opened her mouth to speak right now, she knew she would start crying.
Sanji noticed how tight of a grip she had on his hand, sensing how she was on the cusp of breaking down. He leaned over and stroked her head, hoping its spontaneity would catch her off guard and put a temporary end to this discussion.
"Let's go and do something to distract you instead of overthinking things, my love. How about I whip you up your favourite pancake hm?" He smiled gently before going to the cooking area, rummaging for the ingredients.
A smile spread across her lips. His concern was certainly apparent, Sanji was clearly doing his best to ensure that she felt better.
"That sounds lovely." she stood up, following him towards the kitchen and taking a seat at one of the empty bar chairs. Her eyes shifted to a different topic as she watched him cook, trying her best not to let her mind wander back to Zoro's words.
Zoro on the other hand was pacing back and forth along the deck, hyping himself up to go apologise to her. He wasn't the best with understanding feelings but even he could tell that his words had hurt her a lot. Sighing, he made his way to the kitchen.
He was about enter but stopped himself very quickly when he heard the sound of her laugher ring throughout the kitchen. Zoro watched as the stupid cook placed a beautiful stack of pancakes in front of her and kissed her forehead. He watched as she smiled up at the damn love cook so gently. He never, ever saw her smile at him like that.
The swordsman's eyebrows dipped slightly, his expression shifting to one of frustration and anger as he observed them from afar. His attention was fixated on their exchange, taking note of how the love cook was clearly much more gentle and attentive to her feelings compared to himself.
His grip around his swords tightened as his blood boiled with jealousy and envy. Why on earth was he feeling like this? This feeling was so foreign to him – it felt like there was a lump growing in the back of his throat. Before he could dwell much on his new set of emotions, he stormed off to the crow’s nest where he would workout so hard that he forgot how he felt.
She happily ate away at the delicious treat Sanji had set in front of her, it never failed to make her feel better. "Thanks Sanji, this really helped! I think I'm going to get some rest back at my quarters."
Sanji nodded and smiled gently again, before glancing at the spot he saw Zoro watch them from. He was observant and he knew the stoic swordsman had seen him fuss over her. It was so annoying for Sanji to watch the idiot mess things up for himself that he decided that it was time he intervened. He made his way to the crow's nest, knowing that he would be there.
The swordsman had been there for quite a while, his heavy workout sessions allowing him to clear his mind and escape the frustrating emotions he was experiencing. He pushed himself till he was on the very verge of exhaustion, his heart pounding furiously in his chest.
Just as he was about to call it quits, he heard Sanji enter the crow’s nest from the corner of his ear. He immediately stopped his workout, leaning against the nearest wall and inhaling sharply after a few minutes of intense physical exertion.
"What do you want, stupid cook?" His words sounded harsher than usual and he wasn't sure why that was.
Sanji leaned against the wall and lit a cigarette, “You’re so oblivious.”
An annoyed snort escaped from him as he quickly put on a dismissive expression. "What do you mean?"
His tone was sharp, no doubt trying to hide his lingering jealousy. "I have no desire to deal with you right now, why are you here?"
Sanji dragged smoke from his cigarette before sighing, he wasn't even sure why he really wanted them to clear up the misunderstanding. Maybe because it was painful to watch two people who clearly have strong feelings for each other misunderstanding those very feelings.
"Zoro." He said sternly, he rarely used his name unless he was serious about something. "I know your slow brain hasn't registered it yet but you have feelings for her."
His breath hitched as his blood suddenly ran cold at Sanji's words. He had never felt this shocked or bewildered in his life, the idea of having feelings for another was something he simply couldn't wrap his head around. It’s not something he had actively thought about.
"W-What? No." he denied, shaking his head.
Sanji sighed, this was going to be harder than he thought because this man clearly had trouble processing emotion. "Yeah? So you don't mind if I go for her then? I know you saw our moment in the kitchen earlier.”
"I was just—“ he stumbled over his words as the reality began to sink in, his cheeks tinted pink. In his heart he knew that Sanji had hit it on the nail, but was it wrong of him to feel reluctant about being so vulnerable?
He was an arrogant and blunt swordsman, not a hopeless romantic...he was embarrassed by the very thought of feeling this way.
“You’re right.” He stood there, feeling a rush of emotions come over him. “Shit, how do I fix this, cook?”
Sanji smirked slightly, it seemed that this robot had emotions other than frustration after all. He dropped his cigarette and squished it with his shoes.
"Finally." He was grinning fully now, "Took you long enough moss head."
–
Meanwhile, Y/N was laying on her bed, trying to force herself to fall asleep – but it didn't happen. Sighing, she sat up when she heard a knock, it was most likely Sanji checking up on her...or so she thought.
She was in for a shock when he saw that it wasn't the him who knocked on her door, it was Zoro. He stood at the doorway, looking more troubled than ever before. The swordsman seemed to be lost in many thoughts, a slight smirk playing at his lips.
"Can I come in?"
"U-Uh sure..." She opened the door fully to let him inside before shutting it behind her.
Zoro slowly stepped inside, his eyes flitting about as he took in his surroundings. He seemed slightly uneasy, with his expression shifting between uncertainty and confidence.
Finally, his eyes locked onto the botanist, his expression softening.
"Have you been able to get any sleep?" he began, his tone gentle, which was unusual for him.
"...Not really." She wanted to say more, but she couldn't make herself, she could barely even hold his eye contact.
A soft sigh escaped his lips as he noticed how nervous she seemed to be. Her eyes seemed to dart around and her words were short and limited.
Without warning, he approached her slowly, before gently lifting up her chin until their eyes were connected.
“Look at me.”
She gasped softly not expecting him to touch her, or see the look in his eyes for that matter. His eyes sparkled in the dim lighting, as if he was looking straight into her soul. It took her by surprise how soft his voice was, so soft that it felt tender and gentle.
“Firstly, I'm sorry for being harsh with you earlier...”
The swordsman’s words were tinged with worry and concern, he was now closer to her than before, their bodies were almost touching.
She remained silent, not knowing how to react. This was all new to her, she had never seen this side to him. The swordsman continued with his apology, his hand inching closer to her cheek as he did so.
“I didn't know I was being so cruel, I wasn't aware of just how much my words impacted you... you didn't deserve that.”
Zoro was never one to admit his faults, as he always thought that doing so made him look weak, but he couldn’t hide his true thoughts from her. She felt herself tear up slightly, feeling overwhelmed with emotion but she let him continue.
Zoro’s heart felt heavy, her silent tears were more than he could handle.
“And then... there’s the other thing…”
He was hesitant to say the words that he wanted to say, unsure if she was prepared to hear them.
“When I was working out, Sanji pointed out to me that I had strong feelings for you... and, well, I denied it at first but...”
Her eyes widened as she felt a million butterflies erupt in her stomach all at once, was he admitting to what she thought he was admitting to? She felt like she had to pinch herself to make sure this was reality.
“... that was when I realised, that I actually do have very strong feelings for you. I think… I’m in love with you.””
The swordsman’s eyes remained locked on her the entire time, he was waiting for her to react, waiting to see if she felt the same way. His body was warm and his heart fluttered in his chest at an unusually fast pace.
She felt a lone tear stumble down her cheek. For a moment, time stood still. He could sense the mix of emotion within her, the sense of both sadness and happiness, and he thought it was absolutely beautiful.
The swordsman had not expected this moment, but he wasn’t going to shy away from it.
“Do you feel the same way?” he asked softly, his eyes still locked on hers.
She nodded and spoke out softly with a shaky breath, "Yes...I do. I have for a very long time now.”
The swordsman’s lips curved into a soft smile, a genuine wave of joy washing over him as he took in her response. It was music to his ears, like a song that he had always wanted to hear.
His eyes glistened as he approached a bit closer and rested his hands on both sides of her waist, leaning down slightly to brush his lips with hers before pressing it against hers.
The kiss was soft and gentle, as if his lips were afraid to damage her like they did prior. His breath was slightly shaken and his heart pounded furiously in his chest.
Zoro didn’t want to pull away from the kiss, he wanted to feel every last bit of her presence and warmth against his own body. His fingers dug slightly into her waist, just enough to let her know that he was there. His lips soon parted from hers and he smiled down at her ever so gently.
She smiled up at him, mentally etching his smile in her mind, this very moment – all of it.
He ran his fingers through her hair as they remained close together, a feeling the swordsman had never felt before.
He felt a sense of relief wash over him, a feeling that told him everything was going to be alright. He had never felt so much pleasure at such a casual moment, but he wished it could stay like this forever.
“I think… I love you too.”

🌱 Deeco's ZoSan Fic Rec List 🐥
Hello hello! This is going to be a slight rework for my zosan fic rec list, because I wanted to re-organize it and add some new fics while I'm at it, so this is going to be longer than the first. Feel free to check it out!
Latest update: November 2023
Because I started making this list long before August 2023, I won't add any fics that specifically take place in live-action setting because I haven't read much of them yet. I might consider updating this list to add fics with live-action setting in the future.
—GEN/T FICS
Sketches of Life (and Love) by Fledgling (Teen, 2.9k)
An exploration of a headcanon where Sanji likes to draw in his free time. This fic always leaves me with a warm feeling every time I read it because how endearingly sweet it is. It’s basically a domestic fluff story about both ZoSan and the Strawhats crew in general.
green with envy blues by adietxt (Gen, 1.5k)
A cute fic about Zoro being jealous. Jealous!Zoro has been one of those tropes that make me screech like a feral animal every time I come across it and this fic does exactly that. It’s pretty short and simple but it captures the characters very well. It’s set during pre-timeskip which makes it even better to me because pre-TS Zoro possesses that boyish quality that post-TS Zoro doesn’t necessarily have anymore. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: Fuck, Marry, Kill (or, how Usopp becomes the best matchmaker of the sea without really trying) (Teen, 4.8k) — Usopp introduces the Strawhats to a game that ends up causing Sanji to overthink things - a lot of things.
Old Men Blues by postmoderne (Gen, 2k)
Quoting directly from the fic’s summary, “Sanji and Zoro: two ancient fucks (in love).” because this is exactly that, a story about old men ZoSan. Old Zoro and old Sanji are both still as stubborn as ever and it’s endearing. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: Something Golden (Teen, 1.6k) — Canon reimagining where Zoro met Sanji at the Baratie pre-series.
Meet me under the orange tree by candelina (Gen, 3.9k)
A canon divergence AU where Zoro and Sanji met as kids, as Zeff opened up Baratie in Zoro’s hometown. It’s an adorable and heartwarming story of little Zoro and little Sanji’s friendship. There’s also a part two which is also worth reading. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: The whole world will know (2.3k) — Old men ZoSan fic, this one involves Zoro deliberately showing himself to the Marines for god knows what. It’s sweet, it’s beautiful, and it shows that Zoro is as reckless and idiotic as he is a loving, devoted husband.
Zoro’s Boyfriend, Who Lives In Canada by donutsandcoffee (Gen, 2.6k)
Modern AU, where Zoro’s friends try to stop him from believing that his imaginary, totally made-up boyfriend actually exists. Of course Zoro’s boyfriend doesn’t actually exist, because with the way Zoro describes him he’s way too perfect to exist and how can anyone so perfect actually exist? A hilarious story of misunderstandings. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: Prison Blues (Teen, 2.8k) and it’s a long way forward (Teen, 5k) — serve as both a ZoSan story and a great Sanji character study.
The Three of Swords by 8ball (Teen, 30k, multi-chapters & completed)
A medieval AU with knight Zoro and prince Sanji, a concept that starts to really grow on me after I begin to read this fic. In this story, Zoro is a cursed knight appointed to serve Sanji, a kind-hearted prince whom Zoro eventually pines over. It’s a beautiful take of prince and knight AU; devoted knight Zoro is something that I didn’t know I need. It also has a sequel. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: The Ocean's Child series — a canon-divergence mermaid!Sanji AU
(I Want) Someone to Love Me by three_days_late (Teen, 7.9k)
Sanji is about to turn 17, so he hopes that he can get his first kiss before that. A cute high school AU that involves everyone wanting to kiss Sanji (honestly, who doesn’t) but only one person gets to actually do it. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: Blood Red (Teen, 400 words) — this might be a little biased because this fic is inspired by my comic, but it’s also a perfectly good reason why I must add it here; this fic is able to capture the spirit of the comic perfectly. If you want to read a short exposition of Zoro showing his darker, yet protective side, then this fic is worth the read. Warning for blood & hints of violence. The Christmas Swap (Teen, 37k, multi-chapters & completed) — a modern AU in which Sanji and Reiju switch partners during Christmas so they can attend their family gathering without having to come out as queer. It’s a wonderful story about family, relationships, and the struggles of maintaining those things as a queer person. The Only Way Out (Is Through) (Teen, 4.8k) — a beautiful Prince Sanji and Knight Zoro story, where circumstances forced them to separate & unable to be together. It also has a side Nami/Vivi. I Have Loved You for 1000 Years (I'll Love You for 1000 More) (Teen, 8.9k) — Another Prince Sanji & Knight Zoro AU involving time travel & the sacrifices you go through for the ones you love.
Curly Angel by APTX & translated to English by NMTD (Teen, 9.4k, two chapters & completed)
In this alternative canon universe, everyone has a guardian angel, and Zoro’s just happened to be Sanji. Hilarity ensues.
Let me be your Inspiration by TheWanderers (Teen, 19.8k)
College AU where Sanji is an artist/painter - another fic that explores Sanji as someone with an artistic streak, but also so much more. It’s a beautiful story that starts out with Zoro having to model for Sanji’s painting but ends up falling in love with him. I love the way the author adapts the characters’ canon backstory into this universe.
Retrogade by Hazel_Athena (Teen, 21.9k, two-chapters & completed)
Sanji got badly injured after a fight, and ends up losing a big chunk of memories - it doesn’t bother him too much until he notices how weird Zoro starts to act around him. A really good temporary amnesia fic with some really delicious pining!Zoro material. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: Medieval ZoSan series — a medieval arranged marriage AU. Renegade Queen (Teen, 76k, multi-chapters & completed) — a canon divergent AU where Sora lives and takes all her children with her - it's more of a Vinsmoke family story with ZoSan on the side.
Nothing Happened (Gen, 16k, multi-chapters & completed)
An angsty survival story where the Strawhats get stranded in a middle of the seas with no means to escape and rapidly declining food stock. This fic does a really good job at keeping you in suspense, and the way it handles Zoro and Sanji's relationship destroyed me emotionally. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: Each A Love Song (Gen, 8.6k) — Sanji is frustrated because Zoro’s surprisingly popular with women when he doesn’t even like them back. A story of a confused Sanji trying to find love and being the World’s Most Oblivious Man. Three Blades (Gen, 5k) — a Western AU where Sanji is a saloon owner and Zoro is a bounty hunter.
The Melody of Missing You by BleuReivers (Teen, 11k)
Zoro is forced to confront his feelings in the aftermath of Sanji's departure during the Whole Cake Island arc. I love the way this story examines Zoro's softer, more vulnerable side in a painfully beautiful way, and the whole fic has this hazy, dream-like vibe that really fits with the plot.
Sick Day by Styx_in_the_mud (Teen, 1.3k)
Zoro gets sick, and Sanji takes care of him. A short sick!fic with a simple premise but very cute nonetheless.
—MATURE/EXPLICIT FICS
Deep by CharlieNozaki (Mature, 171k, multi-chapters & completed)
This is There Are Many Benefits to Being A Marine Biologist: The Fic. Okay jokes aside, this is a modern fantasy AU fic where merpeople exist and it mainly tells about marine biologist Sanji and merman Zoro. It has an interesting premise and deals with some heavy subjects in later chapters, hence the Mature tag. It has a sequel, though it's currently ongoing. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: The Game — a Modern AU with slight fantasy-ish element, where Zoro and Sanji are young orphans who find a mysterious game that might be able to change their lives.
Delphinium by toastie_bread (Mature, 39k, multi-chapters & completed)
Set in modern AU, stylist Sanji meets with police detective Zoro after his beauty salon got robbed; a cute rom-com story. There's also a side LawLu.
Steady, As She Goes by auspizien (Explicit, 155k, multi-chapters & completed)
I’ve always loved auspizien’s fics and this is the one fic that made me fall in love with their writing. This is a modern AU story where Zoro is an ex-agent with PTSD who meets and befriends Sanji, a paramedic. It’s a multi-chapter fic filled with humor, angst, pining, action, and good ol’ slow-burn. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: The Android Acquaintance (Explicit, 10k) — dystopian cyberpunk AU with android Sanji and bounty hunter Zoro. This fic partly inspires me to make the Blade Runner 2049 ZoSan art!
The Tribulations of Temptation by SweetyGreeny (Explicit, 18.5k)
Zoro accidentally sees Ace and Sanji doing… the do, and then spends days after that feeling shocked, confused, angry, and disappointed. A delicious story of pining and jealous Zoro. There’s a slight AceSan in the beginning but the endgame is still ZoSan. OTHER FICS FROM THIS AUTHOR: A Siren’s Sinking Song (Teen, 12k) — a canon-divergent AU where Sanji is a siren who one day meets a peculiar swordsman from a wandering ship; this story is beautiful and I love the idea of siren!Sanji, but please note the major character death TW. The Burden of Blondes (Explicit, 11k) — Sanji finds out that Zoro has a thing for blondes, and for some reason he feels uneasy. A fun story with some good smut, and inspired me to make an art loosely based on it.
Thy Fearful Symmetry by Harubo (Explicit, 14.3k)
A modern AU where Sanji is a tourist visiting a tiger reserve during a family vacation and Zoro is a detective investigating a poaching ring. All of Harubo’s fics are godsend but I particularly love this one because the setting reads like a perfect rom-com drama movie about a stressed, overworked chef meeting a handsome detective. There’s also a nice tidbit where the Vinsmoke siblings are trying to get along with each other.
Done Dirt Cheap by Balderdashfromafool (Explicit, 99.7k, multi-chapters & completed)
A Western ZoSan AU, where Zoro is an outlaw and Sanji is a small town chef. This one is fun and lovely, and as someone who doesn’t read a lot of Western-themed stories, I love the way the author describes the Western setting in this fic.
The Fox's Heart by Shadowcatxx (Explicit, 32k, multi-chapters & completed)
Historical/mythological AU where fox spirit Sanji falls in love with human samurai Zoro. A pretty heavy story about forbidden romance but ends with a happy ending. The fic deals with some period-typical issues like homophobia, misogyny, sexism, and transphobia, as well as some depictions of violence and (slight) animal abuse, so please be aware of that.
Mine by burnwaywardbird (Explicit, 4k)
A pure PWP fic of Zoro “punishing” Sanji for flirting with strangers. Super kinky and involves slight dom/sub undertones. Also, while this is mostly pure PWP, this fic is technically part of a series and while can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend to read the other parts as well (especially the ones preceding this fic).
pretty sanji series (Pretty & Surprise) by kickingsanji (12.6k in total)
A series of fics exploring Sanji's femininity and Zoro discovering that he has a thing for Sanji being pretty & wearing pretty things. As a Pretty Sanji truther, I love these fics to bits, not only because it handles Sanji dealing with his insecurities when it comes to his gender expression in a gentle, respectful way, but also because the smut is very good.
All Will be Well by thecrownofclowns (Explicit, 17k)
An incredibly sad but sweet zombie apocalypse AU about Sanji trying to survive the zombie outbreak all by himself, before eventually meeting Zoro. One of my favorite hurt/comfort fics.
—OMEGAVERSE (ALPHA/BETA/OMEGA) FICS
Onigiri by himaaneko (Teen, 2.3k)
Very cute domestic family fic of Zoro, Sanji, and their son. For those who prefers a softer omegaverse with family/love-children fluff on the side, this fic is for you.
Bite Me by Shadowcatxxx (Mature, 15k, two-chapters & completed)
Sanji got attacked while he was alone on the ship, causing him to go into heat. Zoro tries to help, but not without consequences. An exposition on how Zoro and Sanji handle their dynamics, and their feelings towards each other. Please mind the tags with this one.
fever by adietxt (Explicit, 6.4k, multi-chapters & completed)
I'm pretty sure that this is the first omegaverse ZoSan story that I have ever read, and one of the best ones I've ever read for a good reason. It involves Sanji, who suddenly got into his heat, and Zoro, the first one to discover Sanji in heat and learns for the first time he's an omega. I won't spoil anything, but I can say that the ending is great, the porn is delicious, and Zoro being possessive is exquisite.
Steps of Calidity by auspizien (Explicit, 42k, multi-chapters & completed)
I'm gonna preface this by saying that the smut here is ungodly good and very, very hot - and to be perfectly honest, one of the main reasons why I like this fic so much. But the plot is just as good and has an interesting take of how omegaverse dynamics might work in a modern world. Don't forget to mind the tags as well.
Sweet by ElAlmaDelMar (Explicit, 1.8k)
Sanji starts lactating during his pregnancy; Zoro finds it very hot. This one is just straight up kinky. It's a sequel to another story but can be read as a standalone.

I know you like Reiju- thoughts about how Sanji sees her in others? i realized while rereading Dressrosa that she and Viola are actually very similar characters, having to unwillingly become a villain to save themselves and their family, working for a person and a cause she hates because she doesn’t have another choice, and I thought maybe Sanji might’ve seen that in her too.
Oh absolutely! I think about how often Sanji sees Reiju in other people constantly, especially women under the control of violent men.
There's a really good post going around, talking about Sanji's treatment of Nami and Robin, when they each respectively "turned" on the Strawhats in Arlong Park and Enies Lobby. He says something along the lines of "a woman has her reasons to lie"; he shows a lot of understanding towards their need to project themselves as "villains" in order to save what is dear to them.
And yes, part of it is the way he perceives women in general, but part of it is also the sister he grew up with. A girl who had to lie and perform cruelty in order to be spared from violence, the violence that Sanji himself was a victim of. He was ABSOLUTELY shaped by that experience, and the way he perceives """cruel""" women.
Viola is a really good example of this, too, yes! And he doesn't do this with every woman he meets either! He's able to read them and tell. He didn't do this with Black Maria for example, there wasn't any performance to her villany. So it's not just a "Sanji-ism". You're definitely onto something.
Pudding is another good example, of course. But to me, an element of this I've never seen anyone talk about is how Sanji treats children.
Yes, on the one hand, he treats all of them pretty nicely, and even when he's rough, it's in a similar way Zeff would have been on him. Think of his lines about the children of Elbaph, how they were "raised with love and care" and how he gets mad at Luffy for berating them for that. But despite that, he can be a bit more rough with young boys; think about how he clashed with Momonosuke often. He wasn't afraid to call him a little brat or scold him.
But Sanji with little girls? He's so protective. The way he acted around Toko specifically, is kind of ingrained in my brain. There's that little extra bit of animation in the anime, where he holds her head close to his chest when she cries to comfort her. I can't help but wonder if he sees his sister in her. They're nothing alike in personality, yes, but when Sanji knew Reiju, she was also a young and resilient little pink-haired girl who was living in fear. Idk, maybe it's a reach, but it's an interesting reading to me!
And as always, let me clarify that I don't think Sanji doesn't have feelings of frustration about Reiju's treatment of him. But that inner conflict is probably exactly why he understands women who are similar to her so much. If she had protection back then, maybe she wouldn't have been afraid, and thus she wouldn't have been forced to treat him that way. It's a weird mix of self-preservation and love for the one person that was, in limited ways, kind to him. In the end he is definitely grateful to her, and he does see her as the only family he actually has left in Germa. And part of me wonders if he feels guilty that she was left behind, and maybe the way he acts towards those who remind him of her, are a way to retroactively thank someone he wasn't able to.
