#stop watching remakes

Obvious take, but if you're upset about there being nothing original anymore stop watching remakes. Disclaimer that most of my arguments will be about the Disney remakes because they're the most well known examples.
New technology? So. What. Wouldn't it be cooler to have it applied to something new rather than rehash the same thing 20 times? Learn to appreciate older technology and effects - you will have a much wider range of things to enjoy that way.
More "authentic"? We all saw how the Mulan remake claimed this to get more support and ended up somehow less authentic in a multitude of ways (see the youtube video about this by Xiran Jay Zhao) while also losing a lot of the things that made the original memorable.
Better casting? There are two ways to go about this - one is just a better actor (which is a bad reason to want a remake because it's not just the actor that affects how the role is played). The other is tied into authenticity by having people who look to have/who are from the right backgrounds play the characters, but that can 1. be twisted by the film makers (e.g. find light skinned mixed race actors to uphold colorist standards while being by the book authentic, which has a side effect of making those arguing against such castings seem unhinged to those with no real stakes in the matter) and 2. can end up being less authentic in its own way (e.g. Naomi Scott, of British and Indian descent, playing an Arabian princess in the Aladdin remake but being more authentic looks-wise).
Changing the story? Fanfiction and fan art exist, and if the original is based on a story in the public domain there is room for an original version that has what you want to see in it while being its own thing. If this argument is tied to wanting to get rid of old problematic stuff, I'm in the "tough luck, but you have to accept the past was not as good as it is now and be prepared to have conversations about it being shown as it was in films" camp. Also, if the remake changes the story too much then it isn't a remake so much as a rewrite.
Nostalgia? Rewatch the version you're nostalgic for and introduce it to people who have yet to see it to see how they respond to it.
Opportunity to be more "complete"? I can guarantee you that there will inevitably be something that still isn't touched upon the way you want it to be.
Regardless of what the argument it, if you don't want to have yet another remake of something then you need. To. Stop. Watching. Remakes. That includes hate watching or watching out of curiosity. If enough people stop watching them then they will have to go back to original stuff because the "safe" answer of remaking things they already know are successful will no longer be safe.
Also, when it comes to large corporations doing this, the likelihood that there IS something original coming out from a smaller studio that the larger one wants to kill is very high - hell, it could even be a smaller original thing from the same corporation that for various reasons the Corporate Overlords want to fail (such as what happened with the last 2d animated films by Disney). Additionally, large corporations like Disney do this to keep their copyrights up to date. Both of these also apply to large corporations re-releasing old works in "limited time theater viewings".
tl/dr : Stop watching remakes/re-releases if you want original stuff and convince everyone you know to stop doing so as well.
fucking constant reboot remake reboot remake reboot remake reboot remake!!!!!!!!!! the tv has only been around for like a century you literally cannot be out of ideas already
#i ranted because i'm annoyed by this trend#stop watching remakes#even hate watching or watching out of curiosity

"I hate that they are doing a live action remake of (x)... but I'm going to go see it anyways cause I'm faithful to the media-"
No. You are beholden to absolutely nothing. Stop giving the corporations a reason to keep doing live action remakes.
#live action remakes#the only reason they keep doing them is cause people keep watching them.#literally the ONLY reason why they keep making these live action remakes.#media#movies#tv shows#cause they are relying SOLELY on your nostalgia for the media. that's it.#they WANT you to be faithful so they can make easy money.#stop. giving. them. money.#I'm seeing way too many people say this and they do it all the time#it's just WILD to me that the greater public doesn't fuggin get it STILL!!!

Ranma 1/2 feels like such a timeless love story to me, like you have Akane who at the start only knows how to be independent and strong in that sense because she has to be and Ranma who only grew up with fighting and being a “man” but they help bring out the best in each other and help each other accept their own insecurities and faults through their growing relationship (even if they can’t say it out loud)!
#ranma 1/2#akane#akane tendo#ranma#rankane#ranma saotome#I am so happy for the remake#like they are the comfort couple to me#and I’ve stopped watching a lot of anime but I always come back to this series

I just watched the new crow. And guess what??? I fucking liked it. No spoilers here but it was NOTHING like the original. Not one bit was taken from the original and replicated. It was a completely different story. And guess what? I still love the original to pieces. I still love Brandon as Eric. But also guess what? I enjoyed how Bill made it his own. It didn’t feel like a copy. It felt like a different version, with a different story. And that’s okay. The original is still awesome and super iconic. But news flash, the new one isn’t shit just bc it’s called The Crow 2024. Maybe give reboots a chance before shitting on it. The original came out in 1990. That’s 34 fucking years ago. That’s a whole generation right there. Y’all act like reboots and remakes haven’t existed since the beginning of the film industry. Some are bad and a cash grab, and some are actually kinda cool and have its own thing going. I think this one has its own tone just like the original had its very distinct aesthetic and tone.
Yes I liked it. So what. If I didn’t I would say so. I went into it expecting nothing, if anything I expected to be trash and nonsensical, but no. Everything made sense, it had a pretty cohesive story and gave a different and darker (like metaphorically not literal, nothing can be darker than the original) telling of the story and Eric’s character. And that’s okay. Let’s just learn to watch and enjoy some movies without blindly hating on them just because it’s cool to.
#I’m never gonna stop yapping about this#give this movie a chance at least#if you watched it and hated it fine#that’s acceptable#but don’t say it’s trash before even bothering to give it a try bc you think it’s a remake#it’s not#it’s literally a reboot#like the only thing that’s the same is their fucking names#and the omly 2 characters who are the same are Eric and Shelley#lit nobody else#so stop calling it a remake#I enjoyed it and I’d watch it again#sorry for the rant#movie rant#the crow#the crow 2024#eric draven#bill skarsgard

So, since Disney is acting like a corporate overlord pussy and made a dumb, soulless remake of Snow White, I, as a lover of the og Snow White and the fairytale in general, am going to recommend you three movie adaptations of Snow White that are actually worth watching (excluding the Disney's original animated film).
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
This is a gritty, dark fantasy take on Snow White. The movie is visually beautiful and has an interesting aesthetic. It gives depth to the Evil Queen that I haven't seen done anywhere else. Sadly, the acting is really bad, but still miles better than whatever the fuck Disney did. It's a feminist retelling and is definitely worth watching if you're a dark fantasy fan.
2. Red Shoes and Seven Dwarfs (2019)
This is a South Korean animated movie that features an overweight Snow White who gets magic shoes that transform her in the most beautiful girl in the world. The story focuses on finding the inner beauty. The movie is hilarious and has a very interesting musical score. The animation is wonderful and it's a huge recommendation from me if you want something light-hearted.
3. Mirror Mirror (2012)
This is arguably the best Snow White movie adaptation. It's a comedy and it feels like what Disney wishes their movie was. It's funny, corny and has a lot of feminist elements. And Julia Roberts plays the Evil Queen. This movie is one of those heart warming ones that the entire family can watch.
PLEASE, don't watch Disney's bullshit, ESPECIALLY not in theaters!
#snow white#stop the disney remakes please#i'm so bad at writing movie reviews lol#but even reading this bullshit is better than watching new snow white#snow white and the huntsman#mirror mirror#red shoes and the seven dwarfs#movie recommendation#watching paint dry is better than watching disney remakes

Hot take but I really think Evermore by Dan Stevens for the live action Beauty and the Beast just fits later Viggo and his obsession w Hiccup so well. Like I can even imagine him singing it. It just fits so well in their situation kalgjel;ajw
(This is not me condoning the Live Action B&TB btw. Actually abhorred that movie and I spit on its existence. But I do like this song.)
#vigcup#viggo grimborn#httyd#hiccup haddock#eatmilksthoughts#race to the edge#how to train your dragon#Viggo can sing you cannot change my mind.#He also probably plays an instrument but thats unrelated.#But I can just imagine him belting this while watching hiccup fly away or something idk#stop remakes tho fr#I was just listening to it lol

yes there is a live action queer alpha/alpha omegaverse racing tv show with a power bottom from thailand. no this is not goncharov 2.
it’s called pit babe. you can watch it on youtube, and if it’s not available in your region you can watch it on iqiyi (although you’ll need a vip subscription). you can also pirate it on sites like dramacool.
#the thailand part is very important#this is NOT a kdrama stop calling it that#THEY ARE FROM THAILAND THEY ARE THAI#pit babe honestly has the potential to take tumblr by storm the same way kinnporsche did#speaking of kinnporsche YES i joked that it was the thai remake of goncharov#but pit babe is 100% real and is an original story#well it’s adapted from a novel but. an original novel.#pit babe#pit babe the series#pbts#thai bl#pavel phoom#pavel naret#pooh krittin#honestly if you didn’t see pavel power bottom coming then we clearly did not watch 2moons2 through the same lens#omegaverse#a/b/o#OH i think there is supposed to be an omegaverse cbl at some point?? couple or not

more people should see the original nosferatu. not because i think it recontextualizes much of the remake or whatever but because i would have 63-94 minutes free from bad takes while people watched it. depending on the version and transfer speed.
#well i mean you should watch it because it’s good (it’s good because i like it <3)#and to be fair knowledge of the original made watching this remake more enjoyable for me#but that’s bc im a nerddddd#also stop fucking talking abt accuracy to dracula the book for like five minutes#nosferatu isn’t dracula it’s dracula’s ripoff#blayne#delete later

Why are the people making the live action remake of atla pretending like atla is some 1950's show that needs "updating" to current time?!!
Everything I've heard about it, in the last few days only makes me think, no wonder the original creators left and my god, these people don't really get the show!
Plus trying to make atla into something that'll appeal to game of thrones fans is probably the most horrible thing anyone can try to do to atla! Game of Thrones sucks ass and barely has anything in common with the avatar world. Avatar is literally a kids/ family show, not fucking game of thrones!!
Netflix is not only horrible but also so fucking lazy! Game of Thrones!!?? Just fuck right off!
I never wanted a live action remake and i knew i wouldn't like it, just because I prefer animation for avatar and i think that there's more freedom and creativity with animation, but these comments that people on the remake are saying just tells me that they are gonna suck the life and joy out of avatar the last airbender!
#Netflix is evil!!#like please stop doing live action remakes! who has ever watched atla or lok and thought “i wish this was live action”??!!#no one!!#avatar the last airbender#atla#Netflix#live action remake#👑

hyperfixations really will have you imagining a 2 hour video essay on some white guy video game character huh 😪
#HELP#thank GOD i don't have video editing capabilities i would be SO annoying#anyways there's a guy on youtube who does FASCINATING breakdowns of video game villains#i watched one on miquella eldenring and i watched one on osmund saddler re4 (2023)#i would LOVE to do a villain analysis on chronos hades2game as well. he's a fascinating villain to me#well. i have WRITING capabilities. hmmmmm#character analysis is so fun to do frfr i love examining the little guys in my video games like they're specimen#I COULD DO ONE ON LINK BOTW#(he's also a fascinating character to me idk)#help i'm discovering my true power and i don't have time for this!!!!!#i also want to do one on the character development leon has in the re2 and 4 remakes because i think its really fascinating#and i do not see it talked about enough. probably because he's peak male fantasy but i'm shaking him violently#PLEASE I NEED TO TALK ABOUT PERSONAL CHANGE AND ITS RELEVANCE IN RESIDENT EVIL 4 (2023)#ITS EVERYWHERE literally the main antagonist is trying to convince you to join him and give up control of your body#and there's this underlying narrative about how people change over time and a lot of it from leon's perspective is because of trauma/PTSD#that he's running from!!! he's not really handling it and it's coming back around again and it shows!!#he's got this sort of drive to save as many as he can but literally not long after his introduction as a character there's this really harsh#reality check that it's not possible to save everyone. but leon keeps trying and he keeps failing#and these failures stay with him into re4 and throughout that game too.#HHHHHHHRG this game is so good for no reason why is it so GOOD AUGH#anyways :) i'll stop losing my mind over this one specific blond dude in my tags now#oh god i hope no one sees these tags <- in denial#i really could go on for 2 hours about leon kennedy huh#hell i could do it for melinoë too. AND SHE ONLY HAS ONE GAME

I'm enjoying this Crow remake discourse.
People are acting so precious about the original, this movie is not back to the future and we had terrible remakes. Bill Skarsgard won't tarnish Brandon Lee's version. It will likely bring a new generation to watch it.
Second most talked point is Bill's look, comparing him with Jared Leto Joker. I can see why people are making the comparison, both are white tattoed man with abs. The end.
Let's be critical here, the 90s version looked like a rockstar from the era, you can't tell me older people didn't think the look was cringe. Same goes from 2024 version, he looks like a rockstar from today, you may not like it but it does, and what the Leto's Joker was based on.
As for the actual movie, I don't know if it's good or bad, but it it's but isn't because the original is untouchable or because the new version has Pinterest tattoos on
#bill skarsgård#bill skarsgard#the crow remake#stop clutching your pearls#just watch the original#fka twigs#the original the goth camp

thought the original silent hill movie was so cool when i was like 15 and hadnt played any of the games. but rewatching it now i can see why it annoyed fans so much. they put the iconic music in some random scene that doesnt fit, its way too actiony. the mc doesn't even have some trauma to work through, all the unnecessary dude scenes destroy the pacing. and they're trying way too hard to Explain the town.
#the appeal of silent hill is that its not resident evil stop trying to make it resident evil#still haven't played the games lol#just watched a couple playthrus#im not playing the remake theres way too much combat

Every single time. Disney Live-Action remake is announced, people hate the idea, first teaser is released, people start talking about how sick they’re getting of the remakes, and then two clips later with a catheter of nostalgia-juice “This actually looks pretty good” starts to creep into the comment sections and the tide of opinion draws back into the sea. No one ever learns, and the cycle will repeat itself until… god, if only I knew until.
#the little mermaid 2023#anti disney#that poor unfortunate souls song was such a shadow of the original HOW are you letting your standards drop to this#im pre-wired to want to stop all these remakes on sight so maybe im biased but goodness.#i feel like sebastian watching ariel making the obviously bad contract lmao
