Tips on what to wear/buy for Marilyn Monroe/doll like makeup? I was told I have those types of features and I’d love to enhance it or balance it out! Not sure which makeup style that would be. But soft looks/ and makeup “non makeup” type looks work best for me. Thank you~

Hi love! I would say the following makeup products can help generate/enhance this look:

Lightweight, full-coverage foundation/concealer (I love the NYX Can't Stop, Won't Stop concealer)

A light sweep of a golden-peachy blush (Nars Orgasm would be great for this look, but it depends on your skin tone)

A light champagne highlight on the tops of your cheekbones and under the arches of your brows (I recommend something like the Westman Atelier Lit Up Highlight Stick)

Brow Pomade/Powder/Pencil that matches your brow color to fill in any gaps (I love the NYX Fill N' Fluff pencil)

A shimmering champagne (lid and below the brow – I would say to go with Stila Kitten Eye Shadow) and light brown (crease – NYX's J'Adore would be perfect for this) eyeshadow

Black or dark brown eyeliner (depending on your desired look/hair and skin coloring) for a thin winged liner look. I swear by the PAT McGRATH LABS PERMA PRECISION Liquid Eyeliner

Lengthening mascara (something like e.l.f Lash N' Roll Mascara)

Red lipstick with a golden glow/undertones (Nars Immortal Red immediately comes to mind)

You mentioned being married to your make up brands at one point. As someone who badly needs to refresh their makeup supply and never really settled on brands, which do you recommend?

It depends on for what! My go-to tinted moisturizer, which was my everyday foundation, was discontinued so I'm a bit of a ship without a port in that area, but there are a couple brands I still swear by for other things:

Lipstick: Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip, 22 bucks

Unless I got a freebie, if I'm wearing lipstick, this is it. It lasts so well I sometimes have trouble taking it off THE NEXT MORNING. They have four different toned reds, so they have one for you, if you want red. My red is Mon Cheri, and my second most worn is a more demure shade called Syrupticious.

Mascara: Milk Makeup Kush Mascara (waterproof) $15 mini/$28 full size

I include the price of the mini because that's what I always buy so I have better fresher mascara, which will help clumping more than anything. This is thick and volumizing and lush, and the waterproof is true to its word. I don't love any mascara truly--I don't feel about this the way I feel about Beauty Bakerie for example--but out of a tough product that I have a lot of gripes with, I think it's the best

Eyeliner: Sephora Waterproof Felt Tip, $14

I like Stila a lot, I know it's a lot of people's go-to, but I think this is just as good for less money. I like the fine line because I like the tiny brush, but wink-it and hot line are the same formula, just different tips. I think it stays fantastically for my very high activity level and inability to not touch my face.

Violet’s makeup

This post is going to be in-depth, so bare with me for its length. 

Looking through set photos and within the show, Violet seems to wear a few cosmetic products. 

Below is a closeup of Violet in Rubber Man for easier reference I’ve made.  

The makeup artist for season 1 was Eryn Krueger Mekash. I did some digging and it turns out she has spoken about her techniques/products!

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter from February 10, 2011 in relation to lips:

“Lip stains are long-lasting and not drying or sticky — we can’t have hair sticking to lips during the dance numbers,” says Eryn Krueger Mekash, head of makeup on Glee, who uses Tarte Lip Stain in Envy on Dianna Agron and Lea Michele. 

With Makeup411 (a now defunct makeup magazine site), Eryn Krueger Mekash did a Beauty Breakdown on season 1 of Glee, here are the snippets worth noting:

In another interview she brought up the foundation she used on Hollywood for the men to retain the “no makeup, it’s natural” look: 

I love using Tarte BB Treatment cream on men. It gives a touch of color and has a mattifying agent and SPF. […] Polished looks start with foundation that is buffed in and minimal powder. Those cameras can still see every brush stroke so that is still a big priority.

With Allure magazine, she said her personal all-time favorite products were:

"I have always loved Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat for lots of highlighting—undereyes, nasal labial folds. Also a great moisturizer and all around cure-all is Egyptian Magic. It's great for chapped lips, dry skin, rashes. I am ridiculous about my own makeup. I slap it on and blend it later—I have no time to do proper makeup on myself. Healthy looking skin is an important part of the youthful look – and not too much powder, not heavy foundation.

Now back to Violet’s makeup and what I believe she used and did.

I do not believe Eryn Krueger Mekash used much mascara on Taissa. If she did, it looks to be more on the top lashes (just like Michele’s on Glee). What’s visible to me though is the very subtle eyeliner around her eyes. There is no wing apparent. 

Violet’s lips do have a luster as you can see in the image above, but in the below image it’s more matte. I am torn between Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Tint and Stila Convertible Colors.

All-in-all Violet’s makeup is not heavy or flashy; it gives a natural, youthful impression. Clearly the makeup does vary with each episode but not a lot. Considering she is 15-years-old and juggling so much chaos, it makes sense for her character.

HEWWO. i'm sorry it took me so long to get to this ask!!!! i LOOOVE infodumping about makeup it is one of my longest lasting ~special interests~ hehe. ok let's get into it!

all kinds of eyeliner have their place imo. I like Stila's liquid liner pen for sharp lines, but i like pencil for more smudgy looks and to tightline my upper waterline. my fav pencil eyeliners are the Urban Decay ones but they're $$$ so i usually go with the Maybelline tattoo studio ones these days. they work really well. gel eyeliner in the pot had a moment a few years ago but i never got the hang of it :/

i think what's worth splurging on is SO personal! it really just depends on what you use the most. personally i splurge on cream blush, setting powder, tinted moisturizer, setting spray, lipstick, eye primer, and liquid liner. I cheap out on brow product, mascara, pencil liner, and most eyeshadow (helloooo colourpop)!

i find makeup inspiration everywhere! nature is a big one. even just flowers in my neighborhood hehe. i don't have any looks on the horizon yet, cause i've been sick and don't know when i'll be able to wear a full face again.
