Church of St Paul. For close to five centuries, It has stood witness to the conquest of the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British from its vantage point atop St Paul's hill. The church was originally built in 1521 by the Portuguese. A simple chapel then, it was dedicated to the Virgin Mother and known as Our Lady of the Annunciation. Then, 27 years later, in 1548, St Francis Xavier, regarded as a Catholic missionary pioneer, founded a school on the chapel grounds - St Paul's College. He used the church as his base while continuing to help spread Catholicism in the region, especially China and Japan. On one of his journeys to China in 1552, he fell sick and passed away. His body was then brought back to Malacca in 1553 and kept at the church for about eight months, before it was once again shipped to Goa. When the Dutch defeated the Portuguese in 1641, they went about renovating the chapel and renamed it St Paul’s Church. In 1753, when the Dutch constructed the Christ Church to serve an ever growing Dutch population, it spelt the end and deterioration of St Paul's Church. Cut to 1952. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of St Francis Xavier's journey to Malacca, his statue was built. Sadly, all that remains of St Paul’s Church are his statue, the walls and a bell tower. Today, together with the A Famosa ruins and the Stadthuys, it forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage site in Malacca. _________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs www.nofixedaddress.in _________________________________________ Malaysia Truly Asia 🇲🇾 #MalaysiaTrulyAsia #CutiCutiMalaysia #TourismMalaysia _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #melakatrip #melaka #malaysia #stpaulchurchmalacca #stpaulschurch #stpaulchurchmelaka #stfrancisxavier #stfrancisxavierstatue #malacca #stpaulhillmalacca #malaccacity #culturaltravel #unesco #worldheritage #worldheritagesites #history #historicalarchitecture #historicbuilding #historicalplace #igmalacca #malaysianig #igmalaysia #igersmalaysia #malaysiagram #igasia #throwback (at St Paul's Hill and St Paul's Church) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKI1QnXsASC/?igshid=1l4t1nty583be

On November 13, the universal Church honors St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, an Italian missionary who spent much of her life working with Italian immigrants in the United States. Mother Cabrini, who had a deathly fear of water and drowning, crossed the Atlantic Ocean more than 30 times in service of the Church and the people she was serving.
St. Frances Cabrini, from a young age, longed to be a…
