#steven universe rewatch

just finished my rewatch of steven universe (just the main series) and I'm so in tears I seriously believe this show deserves the same acclaim as avatar the last airbender. it started off as being an episodic series about fighting monsters and in the end all the monsters are saved. it has a reputation for being annoyingly pacifistic and sappy but it's really just about learning to love and forgive yourself and embrace your own flaws. It has an incredibly diverse cast of characters whose individual arcs deal with issues of abuse, insecurity, consent, grief, depression, and family trauma. one of the main protagonists is the physical manifestation of a loving lesbian relationship and she sings a song about the sheer power of said lesbian relationship while beating up a villain. it's just so incredible.

Maybe Steven Universe wasn’t the best show to watch

So I am doing a complete re-watch of Steven Universe because I have not seen it in years and I just wanted some nostalgia. I forgot just how small the character models get throughout the first season. Its a strange choice but I guess I get it? Also the music is still amazing! They really popped off with the music. Also it's crazy how obvious the whole Rose Quartz storyline is. They basically laid everything out in the Watermelon Steven episode. I'm almost done with the first season and it has been such a blast revisiting this.

I'm watching Gem Harvest and all the gem's trust in Greg makes my heart happy.

Pearl about Greg: "I'm sure Greg will turn this around" !!!CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!

Season 1 Pearl would've made a sly comment, undermined him and suggested she fix she situation herself, but no, this Pearl has some trust, some belief in Greg and the fact that he can help on his own, that he's useful. And my man Greg deserves nothing less than the trust he's been given.

And that's just an example of ONE gem out of 5. It just, it makes me happy. I love Greg and I'm happy they're not treating him like a permanently benched player anymore

say what you will about steven universe but it's objectively hilarious that arguably one of the most toxic ships in the series is just. two coworkers at the same shitty minimum wage food service job

I don't think there is much stuff that gave me emotion like certain episodes of Steven Universe

And those are Lion 3 straight to video and Alone Together. Still have to get to that one, but the first time we saw Rose, the first time we heard her voice, and it was because she Loved Steven and knew she had to leave him something. And the love. Like... she made Steven out of love. She loved so much. Till the end.
