Always thinking about a Youtube comment I read recently that pointed out how Pink Pearl's injury was caused by the destructive powers from Rose's yelling. & when we hear Rose's voice in the more recent years of her life, in Greg's flashbacks and in the tape she gave Steven, she was very soft-spoken

people started asking crane (Max’s friend) on stream if Lestappen (Charles and max) is real. I think he was like “I shouldn’t be furthering/entertaining this” (I forgot what he said word for word). People took it as something to be excited about, that the drivers are aware of the ships and all, but idk. I think fandoms are getting too bold for my liking. I have no problem with shipping, but this parasocial behaviour is out of hand. I saw this when 1D was still a group (with Harry x Louis shippers harassing Louis to the point where he got so upset when the ship was referenced in the popular show Euphoria), I’ve seen it with Kpop in which idols have stopped hanging out publicly because fandoms get out of hand (a girl in the group Aespa had a boyfriend earlier this year and fans got very upset because they shipped her and another member and they broke up. A few years ago, 2 members of two different kpop groups (SNSD and EXO) dated and the girl got harassed at the airport even). And now this.
Fandoms get so parasocial so quickly, it’s insane. It’s not new behaviour, but it’s strange.
exactly, this isn't new behavior. but i feel like it's become more emboldened with how much more "online" both fans and companies/groups are.
more under the cut, because this is a long one....
i also think it ties into this notion that i've been seeing online about how fans have this feeling to be "right" both with rpf and fiction as well. that their theories, opinions and whatever else is "correct". i've seen this with like pieces of media like steven universe and even star wars. like fandom isn't fun anymore, it has become this weird one up over each other. i honestly don't know when this changed, my guess is around the pandemic when it seemed like people were more logged into the internet. but, i could be wildly off with that. (if you have an idea, i'd love to know). it just feels stupid in so many ways how fandoms are structured. even if you're not the "best" artist or writer, people can't have FUN in fandom - of course that doesn't mean it has to be absolved criticism. you can have fun and still call out hate within spaces. the issue with formula one (along with k-pop like you mentioned, anon), is that these aren't characters. this isn't arguing in the tags over is finnpoe or reylo is more valid or legitimate within the narrative. these are REAL people, with REAL friends, families and partners.
it's this weird push to have someone's theory - and while i have a soft spot for lestappen, it is at the end of the day nothing more than fan theory - be confirmed. also personally, if hattie (oscar's sister) or crane (max's friend) "outed" them, i would be horribly fucking offended on oscar/max's behalf. to have someone you TRUST just out you like that. it's sick. maybe it's because i worked in queer spaces from high school all the way through uni, and the number one rule no matter WHAT, is you never out someone. even if the question is harmless and the person asking has no ill intention. you never out another person, because it's not YOUR coming out. so the fact that fans are near begging these people to OUT their loved ones, is not only a level of delusion that i can't ever comprehend. but, also it could honestly, ruin that interpersonal relationship.
so like even if a driver is queer, whoever it may be. could be a driver from the 90s, could be a driver today, it could be a driver in five years, i don't want someone else in their life outing them. because that's THEIR story. and fans need to realize that. bothering crane or hattie or alexandra (i've seen that too) - isn't helping anyone and it makes you look unhinged and weirdly alienates not only the driver but their loved ones. YES, they knew it exists, it is EVERYWHERE. but shoving it in their faces doesn't help. and you're never going to get the confirmation because there is a high chance that their not even queer to begin with. and if they are, NOT OUR CONCERN
i don't have a problem writing or consuming rpf, it is not a crime nor do i think it should be stopped. like HAVE FUN. but you have to realize that it's not like debating star wars or marvel or whatever other piece of fictional media. formula one is REAL, they are not actors. they are athletes, and unless you want all rpf to be shut down some how. i suggest the likes of some of ya'll need to understand that there are different boundaries. and respect them.
i know they're all millionaires, but they still breathe and bleed as a friend of mine once said. it's fun to put them in little scenarios in fanworks, but just keep it out of their direct attention. there are unspoken boundaries, that some of ya'll need have said to you apparently.
asking oscar issac if he THINKS that finnpoe is real is VERY different than asking someone's sister if she thinks her REAL LIFE BROTHER is fucking his REAL LIFE TEAMMATE. - people's relationships have turned to ash over insistent rpf in their faces all the time.
my advice at the end of the day is: have fun, don't write or draw it because you want confirmation that it's a real relationship. write or draw it because you're having fun. fandom is about making friends and shipping in whatever context is about finding a slice of community on the vast internet, not cracking the code of if it is a real relationship. - bunny.

Okay, real talk. This shit is beyond sad and pathetic.
I have never seen a fandom react this poorly to criticism before, even the most hardcore Steven Universe, My Little Pony and Sonic fans would look at this and say "Alright, calm down. It's not that serious."
Viv's fans are incapable of accepting criticism, they see it as this negative thing that needs to be shut down because they've so used to living in a toxic echo chamber. Where nothing but blind praise and admiration is allowed.
Yes, I realize I'm talking about the lowest hanging fruit imaginable, seeing as this person likes to call everyone who criticizes Helluva Boss a homophobe. But that doesn't change the fact that a majority of people within the Hazbin/Helluva fandom cannot accept any criticism that's directed at Viv or her shows.
And another thing, I love how they're claiming that the internet would be singing Blitzo's praises if he was quote "Straight and neurotypical." Completely ignoring the fact that the internet has always complained about straight male characters since its inception.
The Joker, Batman, Homer Simpson, Spider Man, and Steven Universe are just some of the examples that come to mind.
Blitzo is just a badly written character, most of the criticisms I've seen of his character have come from queer individuals. So this notion that the only people who hate Blizto's character are right wing reactionaries who whine about everything being "woke" is silly.

RIP Tracy Tormé, Creator of the "Holodeck Malfunction Episode" and Sliders
Tumblr media
Tracy Tormé’s most enduring legacy in popular culture is that, while a writer on TNG’s tempestuous first and second seasons, he created the entire concept of the Holodeck Malfunction Episode.
Tumblr media
Yes, even people who suggest you skip TNG’s first couple seasons say that “The Big Goodbye” is one you don’t want to miss. And there was a very nice tribute to Tracy Torme in an episode of Picard, which had him as the author and creator of Dixon Hill… which he is, and deserves credit for this.
Tumblr media
I suppose I should mention I had a personal encounter with Tracy Tormé at a convention. The main thing I remember was that he looked absolutely terrified when someone asked him about what happened with “The Royale,” far and away TNG’s worst episode except the clip show, about the crew getting trapped on a hotel they can’t leave from a badly written book. To his great credit, he took responsibility for the episode not working and did not pass on the problems to the production crew.
Tumblr media
The most extraordinary thing about Tracy Torme is that he had a Forrest Gump like ability to appear in the background of scifi culture’s greatest moments.
Not only was he inside the TNG writers’ room in 1987-88, he was around during the production of Terminator with James Cameron. Tormé was the one who, hearing about the production of the film, squealed on it to Harlan Ellison, telling Ellison that it was based on his old Outer Limits episodes, with a visual based on his script for “Demon With a Glass Hand.” In other words, he was the Gavrilo Princip who got that entire conflict started, where two of the most proud personalities in scifi butted heads, James Cameron vs. Ellison. Cameron, to this day, insists that the film company gave Ellison money and a credit because it was easier to pay him off than to go through litigation (which rings true, frankly, for risk averse production companies), and to this day Cameron insists, with his absolutely expected big dick swagger, that Ellison is a “parasite” who received money for nothing, and if it had been up to him, he wouldn’t have given him a dime.
Tumblr media
It’s also worth mentioning that Torme also created the TV series Sliders.
Has anyone else noticed that Sliders is an incredibly right wing show? Seriously, watch it again if you haven’t seen it in years. If you haven’t watched this show since the 90s and you were a kid and all that went over your head, it’s kind of amazing how Limbaugh/Newt Gingrich era right-wing Sliders actually was. It made 24 look like Doonesbury. The targets of Sliders were 90s New Right satire: health care systems, infuriating hippies, the nanny state disallowing the public smoking of cigars, California weirdness, the drug culture, the USSR. Torme’s right wing views were less John Millius-style “blood alone moves the wheel of history” stuff, but more like that of a slobby regular joe in the 90s, Dennis Leary’s character in Demolition Man for instance, who mostly just wants to smoke cigars, ogle girls, and eat hamburgers without getting scolded by his wife. He was less “Passion of the Christ” and more “Animal House.”
I am not saying this as a negative, but merely a description. Contrary to popular belief, right wingers driven by bizarre sexual pathology and weird grudges produce amazing art, as Millius and John Swartzwelder show. A lot of Steven Universe fans love to say things like “all good art is about empathy and kindness” and I reject that notion. Good art can also be about reflecting things in the human experience like fear, trauma, cruelty, and paranoia.
Tumblr media
For that reason, it doesn’t surprise me that Tracy Torme’s best movie script was a horror film about a traumatic experience, Fire in the Sky. An ominous movie about a vanished ranch hand who was the victim of alien abduction, in the earned finale the film’s tension builds toward, our hero remembers the true cause of his missing time: an abduction by aliens, who’s motives are emotionless and incomprehensible, and who subject him to horrific vivisection that we see in excruciating detail. Travis Walton is treated not with sadism or cruelty, but with icy detachment, by alien superintellects that view him as no different than cattle, and are to him as we are to cattle. The most terrifying detail of the film is that the classic “gray alien” look turns out to be spacesuits, revealing a far more frightening appearance underneath.

My Little Man (Steddie X You) (Part of HFOD and SS Universe)
Tumblr media
A/N: I guess you guys would call this season 3? Lol. My angst hella took over as well as some feelings I've been dealing with lately.
Enjoy please <3.
Part of this Universe
Warnings: Demon Steddie & Human Fem Reader, No SMUT in this one, FLUFF, they love each other and their son. Demon Steddie is navigating how to be human while taking care of a pregnant Y/N.
ANGST: More or less the normal level of angst that comes with this series. The theme is grief and PTSD (from a soldiers perspective). Y/N is still struggling with the notion of her parents not being there to see Ellis grow up and the guys (especially Steve) is struggling with being raised how they were and taught to fight. Eddie struggles with feelings of enabling because of everything they went through.
The dreams probably have the most feels. They talk to their loved ones and Ellis says goodbye. Steve has nightmares that involve his dad being a dick (of course) and something that happens within one angers Eddie (blood briefly mentioned).
Word Count: 6398
"Don't you know I love you more than life itself Don't you know that you're my pride And I would not have you walking through this world Without me by your side
Go to sleep my little man Don't you weep my little man"
3 Months Pregnant
Steve sits on the bench outside of the library he had just exited from, sighing heavily as he closed his eyes and threw his head back.
Ever since the three of you got home, he and Eddie had been doing research on which human job they would best be suited for in your realm but were struggling to find much of anything. For him, it was even more difficult since he was raised to be a solider. He genuinely didn’t know how to do anything else and it didn’t help that even though you explained a lot of human behavior, he still felt slightly ignorant with many things.
“May I sit?” The demon jumped at the sound of a gravelly voice beside him. “Oh, shit. Sorry, son. I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“No, it’s alright. Um, please.”, he gestures towards the area beside him causing the man to flash him a thankful grin as he takes a seat.
“How long?”
“I’m sorry?”
“I asked how long. I know the look of a fellow veteran trying to figure out how to adapt to a civilian lifestyle. How long has it been since you saw combat?”
“Oh, uh, it’s…it’s been a few years. But I did it the bulk of my life.”
“I can imagine with you being so young. I bet one of your parents was a solider as well?”
“Wow. Yeah, that’s amazing. How did you…?”
“I told you, son. I know the look.”, the man chuckles as he extends his hand. “Truman Duvall; Ex Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army.”
“Steven Harrington. Um, Sergeant in the US Army. Well, Ex.”, Steve laughs nervously as he hopes his memory of things he’s learned about humans in the past is still up to date.
“Nice to meet you. If I may ask, what were you thinking so hard about specifically?”
“My girlfriend is pregnant and I’m trying to find a job so I can help support my family. I want my son to have a better life then I did but I have no idea where to start.”
“Congratulations on the little bundle! I have four myself, two of them grown and out of the house already. My wife pretends like she’s glad they’re out but she misses them.”, he laughs. “I don’t know if you would be willing but down the street here, we have a recreation center where veterans go to relax and let loose. Theyve been looking for a counselor to lead the group therapy. I think you’d be a good fit.”
“Yeah? Um, I guess I could…”
“Look, you don’t even have to make a decision right now. Why don’t meet me there tonight? We’re having a little party get together thing. Of course, you can bring the girlfriend and you both can meet the person in charge. See if you feel comfortable.”
“O-Ok. I, um…” Steve pauses as he debates on if he should tell the truth about Eddie. That was a fight they had when it came to going home. He had been afraid that they would have to hide their relationship and he never wanted to hide or be hidden when it came to the man he loved. But this is also where he wanted to raise his son and he didn’t want to cause a commotion before you four even had a chance to settle in. What would Eddie do?
“Can I bring my boyfriend as well? He’s a veteran to. We actually met during our tour.”
Truman’s mouth pouted out ever so slightly as his eyebrows lifted in surprise.
“Oh, um, sure! The more the merrier.”
***
“Steven, oh my God, that’s amazing!”, you exclaim as you wrap your arms around his neck. “I’m so happy for you.”
“Hang on, now. I don’t have a job yet but…”
“Don’t sell yourself short, bud.”, Eddie grins from his place on the kitchen counter.
“I hope it’s ok that I kind of…announced…our relationship. We actually didn’t talk about what we wanted to do but I know if we had stayed in our realm I’d want to be honest.”
The long-haired demon opened his arms and Steve promptly placed himself between his legs with his back against his chest while Eddie rested his chin on his shoulder.
“I’m glad you did. I love you and I’m not hiding that.”
“Me either.”, you smiled as they beamed right back.
Suddenly, the happiness drains from your face before you turn and bolt towards the bathroom. You three had been home for a couple of months and within the past week some of the normal symptoms of pregnancy began springing up such as the morning sickness you were currently experiencing.
“It’s alright, baby. Get it all out.”, Eddie tries to sooth as he holds your hair into a makeshift ponytail. As soon as you were finished, you fell back into his arms and thanked Steve when he handed you a bottle of water.
“This is normal, right? Humans get nauseas like this.”, he asked.
“Yeah, honey. It’s normal. I’m alright. I think I’m going to take a nap so I can be 100% for tonight.”
“Y/N, you don’t have to go.”
“No, Steve, I want to go. I want to see where you’ll be and the people you’ll be around.”
################
“Steve! You made it.”, Truman shouts excitedly as he reaches out to shake the boy’s hand. “You must be the girlfriend.”
“Hi. I’m Y/N.”
“Y/N. What a beautiful name for a beautiful woman and this is your…boyfriend? Right, son?”
“Yes, sir. This is Edward.”
“It’s nice to meet you. Steve said you’re a veteran as well. Were you a sergeant like himself?”
“Oh, uh, no. I was more of a private I guess you’d say. But we spent a lot of time together especially on the battlefield.”
“Wow and for you two to still be so close and find a relationship through all that chaos! That’s amazing. I always tell my wife if she met me during my tour she would have hated me. A lot of civilians don’t understand the headspace you have to fall into to do what we have to do.”
Both demon’s nod in understanding and you can’t help but softly smile as you watch them interact with the other people around them. Steve was definitely in his element and you could tell in some way he felt more comfortable in this setting because he was around beings who seemed to understand what they both went through. As his new friend spoke, his eyes remained intense and focused as he absorbed everything he said.
Eddie excused himself to grab some drinks but became distracted talking to another couple and began to laugh at something they were saying. The first time you met him he expressed a particular distain for humans but he seemed to open up more since they were freed, finding something interesting in each person he interacted with.
“Hey, this is my girlfriend Y/N.”, he introduces when you walk over to check on him. “Y/N, this is Lisa and Shawn Bennett. Lisa did a tour in the Air Force flying jets and Shawn was a DJ overseas.”
“Oh wow. For the military or just on your own?”
“For the military. I’m kind of like that Cronauer guy they made the movie about. I read the reports and played music I thought would lift the troops spirits.”, the man explains.
“Kind of like me.”, Eddie whispers in your ear making you smile. “What do you two do now if I may ask? Steve and I have been searching for employment but we have no idea what would fit us.”
“Well, I actually own a store of my own selling books and comics; things like that. I’m a bit of a nerd.”, Lisa laughs.
“And I teach media and music courses at the local community college up here.”
“That sounds like a lot of fun actually. Are they looking for another music teacher because Eddie is an amazing musician.”
“Yeah? Unfortunately, they aren’t but you should consider maybe starting your own business as well. You can teach kids to play guitar or any other instruments you know and you can do it from your house or maybe the music store downtown is hiring.”
“Are you looking for a job to, Y/N? I’m trying to hire someone to help me with my shop.”, Lisa offers with a smile.
“Oh, I’d love that. I’m, uh, I’m actually pregnant though and I wouldn’t want to leave you stranded after you just hired me.”
“That’s fantastic! Don’t even worry about it. You don’t seem very far along yet. I can teach you the ropes before you give birth and that way when you come back, you’ll already know what to do!”
As you glance at Eddie, his eyes widen with encouragement as he nods his head.
“Ok, I’d love to work for you.”
Lisa claps and gives you a big hug as your demon beams behind you.
***
“Hello fellow veterans, spouses, and partners! Glad you could all join us tonight. I hope you are having some much needed fun! I do have just a quick announcement to make. I would like to introduce you to Steven Harrington who is new to Hawkins and after speaking with him I feel like he will be a great addition to our center here as the group counselor.” The man at the podium smiles as he gestures towards the demon and everyone around the room claps. “Steve, why don’t you introduce yourself?”
When he hesitates, you gently push him forward, urging him softly before he relents and nervously climbs up the makeshift stage.
“Um, hi. Sorry, it’s been a while since I’ve been seen by so many people.” The people chuckle as you and Eddie grin knowingly. “Like Thomas said, I’m, uh, new to Hawkins but my girlfriend is from here and my partner and I thought it would be better for her to be back home where she felt safe with her family so we can start raising our own. I-I-I…shit I used to better at this.”, he chuckles before glancing your way, your gentle smile comforting him.
“I was raised in a military household. My dad was a solider so that’s what I was expected to be. As soon as I was able, he handed me a weapon and commanded I train to be the best. There was no wiggle room there. It was all or nothing. When I saw war…I shut down and did what I had to. I took no pleasure in killing, contrary to popular belief.”
“The worst part about shutting down that way was how it flowed into my every day. I was as an asshole to everyone including women I dated and people I trained… except for some of the people closest to me…Robin, Chrissy, and Eddie. When Edward and I got out…I felt so out of control…so lost. I lost my identity and everything I knew. If I didn’t have him by my side… Then we met Y/N and without her we literally wouldn’t be here today.”
Steve paused, looking out into the crowd, and realizing he may be talking too much.
“Sorry. I’m sorry. Thank you so much for this opportunity and I’ll do whatever I can to help.”
The people in the room clap as he steps off the stage and you immediately wrap your arms around his waist as Eddie lightly caresses his cheek.
***
4 Months Pregnant
You beam at Eddie as he softly strums his instrument. That day after Shawn suggested it, he went down to the music store in town and applied for the job as a guitar instructor. After playing and showing off for them he got the job. He loved hearing the kids try and play reminding him of the children he watched over with Steve during their war.
Today was everyone’s day off so they were being lazy in bed with you in your pajamas and both demons in nothing but their sweats.
“Ok, this thing here says for humans you should be feeling him move around now.”, Steve announced as he gestured towards the book he was reading.
“I haven’t felt him move yet unless the occasional nausea is him saying hello.”, you giggle. Leaning over him, you grab his hand and place it on the middle of your stomach. “Talk to him.”
“Uh, I…hey, Ellis. It’s, um, your daddy. I’m not scaring him with my voice, right?”
“No, baby.”, you grin as you pet his head. “This is how he’ll get used to it though. Hearing and seeing you both in your demon form.”
“Buddy, you have no reason to be afraid of us in any form. I’m sorry your dads aren’t as beautiful as you and your mom but—”
“Hey, speak for yourself.”, Eddie teases making you laugh. “I’m a sexy motherfucker.”
“Oh.”
“What?”, Steve’s eyes shift up excitedly.
“You didn’t feel that?”
When he shakes his head, you place his hand closer to the side you felt movement, gesturing for the other demon to do the same.
“Say something else.”
“Hey Ellis. This is your other daddy and I assure you we are very handsome.”
“Holy shit.”, Steve exhales as he grins up towards his partner. “That’s amazing.”
“I’m glad you agree, kid.”, Eddie smiles.
***
6 Months Pregnant
Eddie growls at the crib he was trying to assemble as his glowing red eyes glare at the instructions again. Over these past couple of months, you three had made your dad’s old room your bedroom and begun shifting the room you used to sleep in into Ellis’s.
Going off his personality from your dreams, you painted the room blue with images of guitars along the base boards and up along the ridges of the ceiling. Near where his crib would be, you put up pictures of everyone in his family that loved him including Robin, Wayne, Dustin, and everyone who had passed that he had been conversing with these past six months.
The boys were able to get everything a baby would need from your realm but also from theirs including those books that Eddie had wrote and some toys demons normally played with at a young age.
“Whoever invented these contraptions should be tortured for eternity.”, Eddie grunted as he tried again putting a few of the pieces together.
“You guys don’t have cribs in your realm?”
“Yeah but they were like boxes essentially. Or at least mine was. I’m sure Steven had gold porcelain or some shit.”
“No.”, Steve chuckled as he took the wrong part from his partner’s hand and handed him the correct one. “I had a regular little wooden thing with soft blankets.”
“I wish I could see what you two were like as kids.”
Since they left Maeve, they weren’t able to snap memories into your head like they were before. It hurt them more than you because you always seemed curious about them and they wished they could show you everything from their point of view, not Henry’s or Mirage’s.
“How much did Mirage show you?”
“She showed me big events more than anything. Steve always looking for his parents especially your mom. She did play sword fight with you once and you looked so happy until your dad yelled at her for ‘ruining your training’.” You rolled your eyes as Steve pet your head and sighed. “Eddie, I did see what your uncle told me about with your mom singing to you.” The demon’s glow receded in his eyes as he glanced your way with a small smile.
“Until my father told her to shut up?”
Tilting forward, you crawled over his work to kiss his lips making his smile widen as he caressed your face.
“What about your parents, honey?”
“Both my parents were amazing. My dad always loved to make us laugh. He liked being a girl dad and my mom exploited that.”, you giggle. “She would make him wear tutus while I would do his makeup and they both would dance.”
A tear left your eyes and both demons promptly gave you their attention.
“I’m sorry you guys don’t have your parents here. You both deserve better.”
“Baby, it’s ok—”
“Eddie it’s not okay.”
“Will you let me finish?”, he jokes. “It’s ok because I had my mom and I had Wayne. Then as I got older I got my other family. Steven, Robin, Chrissy, and even Dustin. Now, sweetheart, I have you two and Ellis. I couldn’t be happier.”
“I agree. I’m thankful for the memories I do have with my mom but the kids I trained and beings I fought with…that was my family. I’m so excited to see what’s in store for us, you know. See what Ellis is going to do with his life.”
You smiled as you kissed their lips before you wince and lean away.
“Ow. Little butthead is kicking my side.”
“Hey, kid.”, Eddie teases as he tilts towards your tummy. “Why don’t you stop hurting your mother and come help me make your torture technic of a crib.”
###############
8 months Pregnant
You, Steve, and Eddie walked into the house you three had been in so many times these last few months except now it was completely empty. All the furniture and everything was completely absent as you entered the living room full of people.
“Ellis?”
Everyone in the room moved out of the way to where Eddie’s mom was hugging her grandson to her chest as he sobbed.
“I don wanna go!”
“You have to, baby. Your mommy and daddies need you now. They’ve been waiting so long to see you.”
“Mom?”, Eddie asked as he stepped towards her. “What’s going on?”
She softly smiled as she handed him to your father who spun him around as he chuckled but your son just buried his face further in his neck.
“Come on, little guy. Your parents have made you an awesome bedroom and knowing my daughter she’s going to show you so many amazing things.”
The little boy shook his head as your dad kissed his temple before handing him to your mom.
“Steven, remember, you once told me that everything would be ok and you were right. I’ve watched you both take care of my baby and I assure you, you both are going to be more than ok. You are going to be amazing parents.”
He beamed at him as he wrapped his arms around the demon and pulled him in for a hug.
Your mother grinned as she reached out to touch your face as you started to cry.
“I’m scared to do this without you.”, you whisper.
Your parent’s smiles widen as she kisses her grandson and places him in your arms.
“We’re not going anywhere. We’re always right here.”, she soothes as she points to Ellis’s forehead. “Right behind that door, honey.”
“I love you.”, you son coos as each grandparent reciprocates his affection.
As both your demons come to your side, you look down to no longer see a toddler but a newborn baby wiggling in your arms. Steve gently pets his head as Eddie reaches for his tiny hand that immediately clings to his finger.
All of your eyes shoot open but yours is followed by a grunt as you place your hands on your stomach.
“Fuck! I think…”
They don’t waste any time as they collect you and your things before rushing towards the hospital.
***
“How long are they going to keep him back there?”, Eddie growled as he held your hand.
“Calm down. Y/N said this was normal. They need to clean him, check his vitals, and all that.”
“Yeah, but Steven, what if something comes up in those vitals that frightens a human.”
The other demon’s eyes flash red in warning in his direction as a low rumble leaves his chest.
“Maybe we should have had him in your realm.”, you respond groggily as your heavy eyes shift their way.
“Baby, don’t let Edward scare you, ok? He’s fine. He’s got more human in him right now than anything. Dustin said he would grow into his demon parts.”
“He also said we’re the first couple ever to do this so…”
“Edward Munson, I swear—“, Steve’s anger was cut short when the door to your hospital room opened and a nurse casually sauntered in.
“Hey Munson-Harrington family.”, she smiles. “We have little Ellis here fast asleep and everything looks good. Mommy, how are you feeling?”
“Like I gave birth.” The nurse laughs at your joke as your demons roll their eyes. “I’m alright. A bit exhausted.”
“Yeah, that’s normal, sweetheart. Good news is your baby is in perfect health. Would you like to meet him?” Your eyes fully open as you sit up, smiling softly when she places him in your arms.  “I’ll come check on you three in a bit.”
Tears start to fall as you fully take him in. Right now, he seemed like a completely normal child with soft skin and just a sliver of brown hair poking out of his blue beanie.
“Hey, honey. You’re so handsome. I’m your mommy.”, you coo in a whisper as you kiss his forehead. “Oh my god, he smells so good.”, you laugh as you look their way.
Eddie was the first to step forward, sitting beside you on the bed as he caressed his son’s chubby little cheek with his finger.
“Holy shit. He’s so soft.”, he breathes. “You’re perfect, kid.”
Steve finally takes a seat as well and reaches out to feel his tiny hand.
“He’s warm to. Is that normal?” When you nod, he almost breathes a sigh of relief. “Ellis, we’re your daddies. You ARE perfect, oh my god.”
The baby squirms a bit in your hold giving them pause before pulling away.
“I think that was his way of saying thank you.”, you smile.

3 Weeks Old
“Fascinating.”, Dustin muses as he rocks Ellis in his arms while swaying around the living room. “He really does look just like a little human with the soft skin and everything. Nothing has stood out?”
“Can you stop analyzing our baby and just enjoy him?”, Eddie snaps as he sighs.
“No, nothing.”, you giggle, answering his question. “And so far he seems to eat but not as much as normal babies.”
“How so?”
“Babies are supposed to eat every two hours; we’ve been feeding him every six. I was worried at first but we just took him the doctor and she said he was healthy. When I tried to give him a bottle every two he would cry and push at my hands.”
“Interesting. That has to be hard, Y/N. Him not being able to verbally tell you things like that. I hated when my kids cried in general but you…you still have that whole trial and error thing going.”
Glancing towards your demons, Eddie had fallen asleep with his head nestled in Steve’s lap on the couch who was already napping when Dustin arrived.
“It is. I appreciate everything you’ve done for us though and I know they do to. I’ve been keeping a record like you suggested should this ever happen for anyone else.”
“Good.” When he notices your gaze shift again, he takes a seat on the floor beside you and lays Ellis on the blanket between you both. “Everything ok with you three?”
“Yeah, I’m just a little worried. They were both already so protective over me and now that he’s here… Steve’s been having nightmares. He pretends he doesn’t but I hear him groaning in his sleep and feel him wake up. I asked him the other night if he still has access to my dreams and he said he can’t find the door anymore.”
A tear fell down your check as Dustin reached out to comfort you.
“As I’m sure you’ve noticed, Eddie’s attitude has been a lot shorter lately. He’s exhausted and worried about the three of us. He triple checks everything to the point that I find him asleep on the floor by Ellis’s crib because he’s too tired to make it back to our bed and would just rather be closer to his son just in case.”
“What about you? Besides the worry I mean.”
“I know I’m probably being paranoid but sometimes I feel like we’re being watched. It may just be because of our dynamic. I know not everyone is excepting like the new friends we’ve made but no one has said anything… I don’t know. Just…mom brain maybe.”
“Hm, maybe. Keep an eye on that. From what you’ve told me, you’re always pretty intuitive. Wouldn’t want to miss something you know?”

5 Weeks Old
“Oh my god, Y/N, look at him.”, Lisa coos at Ellis as she holds him in her arms.
“Are you alright, Steve? You look like you haven’t slept.”, Shawn chuckles.
“Yeah, I’m doing alright. Just…little guy keeping me up.”, he forces a smile.
Your friends were having a get together for veterans and their families and since Steve worked at the center you suggested you three should go and be seen. Truthfully, you thought it would be good for them both to get out of the house as well as having him specifically spend some time with his new veteran friends to talk about anything that may be weighing on his mind causing his nightmares.
As the night wore on you noticed their soft grins return to their faces as he and Eddie mingled with the people around them. They radiated warmth as they talked about their son and everything he had done with his short little life so far.
“Have you guys started baby proofing yet? I swear when my daughter started crawling it was like she knew which areas were the bad ones!”
“Oh no, not yet. He did smile at Y/N the other day. Ellis has a beautiful little grin.”, Steve boasts.
“At that age usually it’s just reflexive. They see you guys smiling so…”
“Isn’t that all babies though? Like that’s how they learn?”, Eddie genuinely asks as the dads around him laugh.
“Yeah but who knows some babies are different! You may just have an extremely happy baby who couldn’t wait to show you guys how much he loves being here.”
Time passed and a few of the guests left, leaving the main few that you had really gotten to know. You all sat in the living room while Eddie patted his son’s back as Ellis slept soundly. Steve tenderly petted the baby’s head as you beamed at them from your place in the chair across from them.
“So how has everything else been going?”, Thomas asks as he chugs back some of the beer in his bottle.
“Everything has been good, man. Just focusing on them, ya know?”
“Yeah, I understand. When my son was born, that first night I checked on him every hour on the hour. Then for some reason I kept checking on my wife. I knew our son needed us both and I kept thinking ‘What if something happened to either of us?’”
“I can understand that. I, uh, before Y/N and Steve, I lost a lot of people I loved and there was nothing I could do. Now that Ellis is here…it would kill me if anything ever happened to him.”
“Do you have nightmares about it? About losing them?”
“I don’t but Stevie here does.”, Eddie answers causing Steve to toss a glare his way.
“I do but it’s fine. It’s not a big deal.”
“I had them to. Sometimes I would dream they were on the battlefield I fought in. I would run to them but I could never quite reach them.”, Thomas sighs at the memory. “What do you dream about?”
“It’s fine really.”
You’re not sure if anyone else heard but you and Eddie did as the demon’s voice fluctuated to his real one for a split second.
“Steven…”
“It’s ok, Y/N. Like I said, I get it. If you talk about it, it gives it validity right? You’d hate to manifest something like that into existence. Someone killing Y/N and your son.”
Steve’s eyes closed as his head ticked to the side.
“Ok, Tom, I appreciate what you’re trying to do but I’m putting my foot down. You’re going to push him too far and he’s already got enough on his mind.”, Eddie defended rising to his feet and handing you the baby.
“Ah, you’re the enabler I imagine. You allow him to shelter his feelings so he doesn’t have to deal with them.”
“You’re damn right I do. You humans have no idea what we’ve been through!”
“Interesting word choice. Is that how you separate people from your experiences?”
“Come on, guys, let’s head home.” As the long-haired demon grabbed his boyfriend’s arm, he remained frozen in place. Kneeling in front of him, he cupped his face in his hands. “Steven, it’s ok alright. You don’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to. Let’s go home and get some sleep, huh?”
When the demon finally opened his eyes, Eddie’s widen in fear; he knew this look all too well. As subtly as he could, he got to his feet and towards the front door with you trailing after him.
“Steven—”
Once the wind of the outside hit your faces, he expanded his wings, cutting you off as he vanished into the air.
***
“Edward, baby, are you ok?”
Eddie nodded from his place on the floor next Ellis who was sleeping soundly beside him. After laying down as well, he softly smiles your way as he continues caressing the baby’s open hand.
“DO I enable him, Y/N?”
“Eddie…”
“I just…we went through so much… Every day I had to watch the man I love breakdown. Even when we were out, summoners never treated us with any kind of respect. They knew we wouldn’t be there for long. In our realm, he was hero and with one choice, he was banished and imprisoned…because of me.”
“No, Eddie. Everything you two went through was because of Henry. He killed Chrissy and framed you. Jason didn’t give Steve much of a choice. He was going to disobey orders and hurt you.”
“I always tried to make it up to him… I tried not to show my feelings, pretending I didn’t care we were trapped. Pretending I wasn’t scared and just as angry as he was. I’ve done that my whole life, Y/N. When my mom got sick, I did everything I could to make her laugh so she wouldn’t see how devastated I was. Every time my father came home upset, I acted like I was tough but I was fucking terrified, baby. I was so scared.”
A tear fell from his eye and your immediately wiped it away with your thumb.
“When he fled, I was afraid for my uncle. I didn’t even think twice when I signed up but I was positive I wouldn’t last a month out there on the battlefield. Steven and Robin helped me become a better fighter. With Chris I pretended to be more together than I was. She had enough on her plate at the time and I wanted her to feel safe.”
“It seems like that’s why you pretend, Eddie, so the people you love feel safe.”
Sitting up, he started to cry harder and you immediately crawled to him, curling up in his lap as you held him in your arms.
The sound you recognized as a portal opening grabbed both your attention as you called Steve’s name.
“Hey, no, sorry. It’s just me. I have him here though.”, Robin answered as she came around the corner with the demon leaning half-conscious around her shoulders. “My girlfriend sent me a message saying he was there at the bar. He had been babbling about how human drinks aren’t strong enough and something about you two and Ellis.”
After leading her to the bedroom, she gently placed Steve onto the mattress. When Eddie entered the room, she smiled when she saw your son’s wide eyes looking back at her.
“He woke up.”, the demon announced as Ellis yawned to emphasis his point.
“You need to let your parents get some rest, booger.”, Robin coos as she pokes his nose making him smile.
“Some of our friends said for human babies around this time smiles like that are a reflex.”
“Yeah but he’s not entirely human and that beautiful, drool filled grin didn’t seem reflexive.”, she responded. “It seems like he can handle the demon skin since he’s letting us touch him.”
“Yeah, I think that’s the potion.”, you nod as you reach out to tickle the baby’s chin. “Thank you for bringing Steve back, Robin.”
Softly smiling, she leans down to kiss your forehead.
“Seriously, you and Ellis are so soft—”
“Ay yi, ma’am. This human is ours.”, Eddie playfully scolds as he swats his hand in her direction.
***
Loud banging and clinking echoes behind the door you’re looking at as smoke occasionally slips through the seams. Taking a long exhale, you reach for the handle but someone tapping your shoulder startles you as you turn and smack the person’s face.
“Ow! Jesus woman. How many times are you going to pop me?!”, Eddie whines as he rubs his cheek.
“Edward, how did you—”
“I don’t know. I’ve been looking for the door for months. Maybe you finally calmed me down enough to know what I’m looking for.” Nodding, you kiss his lips. “So what’s the plan?”
“I think…this is Steve’s door. I don’t know. I’ve been trying to access his dreams but I haven’t been able to.”
Holding your hand, he carefully turns the knob and you both step through. Glancing down at his attire, Eddie realizes he’s suddenly in his old battle armor and you both are on the battlefield they fought on all those centuries ago.
“Why am I not in armor?”
“I mean, you weren’t there, baby.”
“What the fuck are you two doing here?!”, Steve’s father shrieks above you as he lands on his feet. “Leave. NOW. My son needs to learn his lesson.”
“YOU’VE been giving him his nightmares?”, you growl.
“Not exactly. He started having them on his own but I’ve been fueling them.”
Shifting your gaze behind him, you both watch as Steve slaughters enemy after enemy, panting as he slowly tires himself out.
“Steven! Do better! You think these fuckers are going to show mercy on your son?! You have to do what I taught you to get the truth!”
Eddie gripped Bill’s throat and angrily threw him to the ground.
“You made your hell his hell, you fucking asshole. He told me all about you and everything you did to him. You ruined his life enough! Leave him be.”
“Please. He’s doing this to himself. He’s worried about you two peasants and that thing. I’m making him better. Stronger.”
Grabbing a sword from the ground, you lift the handle and point the other end towards his throat.
“You heard him. Leave Steven alone or else I swear to God, Bill, I will find a way myself to keep you in hell.”
Growling under his breath, he tried to stand but you and Eddie forced him back down with your weapons. Huffing he suddenly disappeared as well as every other solider that had fallen around the other demon.
“Ed-Edward?”, Steve panted heavily when you noticed you both there. “Y/N? What are you…? It doesn’t matter. We need to get to Ellis or else Henry’s going to kill him. We have to—”
“Baby, look at me.”, Eddie tried to soothe as he cupped his cheeks in his hands. “You’re dreaming ok? Henry is gone and Ellis is in his crib fast asleep.”
“N-No. No? I can hear him. I can hear him crying! Can’t you hear that?!”
“Steven—”
“NO!”, the demon growls loudly as he shoves the man he loves hard backwards. “Who are you?! You’re not Edward. Y-You’re…You’re trying to trick me. Are you Mirage? Did Henry and his dad hire you to stop me?!”
“Steven…”, Eddie cried with worry as he threw the sword he was holding to the ground and held up his hands. “Sweetheart, please, it’s me. I promise. I would never hurt you like that. I would never keep you from our son.”
As he tried to step forward, the other demon shoved him to the ground.
“I-I-I need to get to my son.”, Steve sobbed as his voice cracked. “I know you’re not Eddie. Tell me where he is.”
When he didn’t answer, he pulled back and pushed his weapon downward.
The sound of your grunt filled their ears as your eyes met Steve’s wide glassy ones. When you both looked down, blood drenched his sword where it had pushed through your stomach and around your back.
“Baby?”
Looking up at him again, you smiled through the pain as blood dripped from your lips.
“Why…why does it hurt?”
The three of you opened your eyes at the same time as you sat up clutching your stomach. Lifting up your shirt, there was no wound but it felt so real. You could still feel the stinging pain lingering on your skin.
Eddie’s head slowly turned meeting Steve’s still shocked expression as is mouth hung open in shock.
“I—”
The long-haired demon’s growl cut him off as his eyes glowed bright red.
“Take us to another realm that we can fucking damage NOW.” You didn’t say anything as Steve rose to his feet with his head hung preparing a portal for them to go through. “Stay here.”
Coming around the bed, he waited for the other demon to finish as you peeked into the world they’d be going to. It was completely baron with nothing but white as far as the eye can see.
“Fitting.”, Eddie responded in anger as he and the other demon walked inside.
As the portal began to close, you quickly got up and jumped through right as it disappeared.
You knew Eddie may be mad but after what happened this wasn’t something you were going to let them handle alone.

Danny Phantom A Glitch in Time and the concept of ¨Tikkun Olam¨
Tumblr media
A few days ago i was talking to my friend @chestfullofnuttycream about Furiossa's A Glitch in Time theory about how the Ghost Zone could be result of the equivalent of a nuclear wasteland. While we were commenting on it she brought up the concept of ¨Tikkun Olam¨, which comes from jewish culture and how that could apply to A Glitch in Time. (For context she is jewish).
I got curious and decided to look more into it and see how it could tie with A Glitch in Time themes and lore. In this post i'm going to discuss the term and compare it to what happens in the Danny Phantom graphic novel. For that i'm going to cite this article that describes where the concept comes from and what it means nowadays.
*On note, i'm not jewish myself. There is likely some stuff that i could be wrong or innacurate, so feel free to comment or correct me about it.
Let's start with the mythos of ¨Tikkun Olam¨:
In reference to individual acts of repair, the phrase “tikkun olam” figures prominently in the Lurianic account of creation and its implications: God contracted the divine self to make room for creation. Divine light became contained in special vessels, or kelim, some of which shattered and scattered. While most of the light returned to its divine source, some light attached itself to the broken shards. These shards constitute evil and are the basis for the material world; their trapped sparks of light give them power.
So here already we see some parallels between the mythos and Ghost Zone's origins: The spirit and human-material world used to be one, until there was a great war that lead to the separation of the two worlds and thus with Earth getting ¨shattered¨.
¨All worlds were one, all beings were one, until disharmony struck. Life and chaos amounted to war, such as never has been seen before¨ ¨The toll became too much to bear, and the great divide occured, Spirit was separated from Earth, and one world became two¨.
As the legend explains, this divide isn't meant to be the ¨natural order¨. The current state of both dimensions is wrong. The world itself as its is broken.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While contemporary activists also use the term “tikkun olam” to refer to acts of repair by human beings, they do not necessarily believe in or have a familiarity with the term’s cosmological associations. Their emphasis is on acts of social responsibility, not the larger realm of sacred acts — and on fixing, not undoing, the world as we know it. <> The phrase “tikkun olam” remains connected with human responsibility for fixing what is wrong with the world. <> Contemporary usage of the phrase shares with the rabbinic concept of “mipnei tikkun ha-olam” a concern with public policy and societal change, and with the kabbalistic notion of “tikkun” the idea that the world is profoundly broken and can be fixed only by human activity.
Tikkun Olam is a term that has changed quite a lot since its origins through out history, it can have different meanings depending on the person. In current times a lot prefer to use it as a call to do acts that can help other people or fix the issues one can find in society. In this context the world is broken and it can be fixed through people's acts in different ways.
Tumblr media
After Danny learns about this ancient history of the Ghost World, he says that he wants to make his new emotional drive to be fixing this divide between the two worlds. He wants to find a way to fix what is wrong with this world-perhaps returning to something like it used to be.
Tumblr media
So what this would probably involve is Danny trying to find a way that ghosts and humans can coexist together again. He would try to find a way that can work together and not having to fight each other- like helping ghosts or showing humans that ghosts aren't their enemies.
Another thing that is worth of pointing out is that Gabriela has indirectly confirmed that she was inspired by Steven Universe in her reblog from Furiossa's post. Steven Universe's creator, Rebecca Sugar, is jewish and she has been open about her jewish heritage in the past.
Some people have talked about how Steven Universe is inspired by jewish culture elements for its narrative- one of these elements being Tikkun Olam- In Steven Universe the world and the people are presented as broken and it is something that the characters try to come together to fix it in different ways- Steven himself tries to find ways to repair the damage left by her mother's legacy, Rose Quartz, which gets explored through the show.
Tumblr media
It is possible that Gabriela was inspired by these themes that were in Steven Universe and decided apply them to write A Glitch in Time lore and story.
Now i don't know if Gabriela herself is jewish- i haven't found much indication about this so i can't fully confirm. Another possibility is that she learned about this term and was inspired by it to somewhat apply them in A Glitch in Time.
But it could also be a case of pure coincidence because she happened to take inspiration from Steven Universe- thus ¨accidentally¨ writing a narrative that can be interpreted as taking elements from Tikkun Olam and jewish culture as a whole.
Whatever it is, it is still interesting to see that this is one reading that one can do of A Glitch in Time and see how certain things take inspiration from others. I'm curious to see how this theme is going to be contuined in the next novel along with learning more about how the two worlds became separated and Danny acting as a bridge between humans and ghosts.

Fandom: Steven Universe Rating: Teen Audiences Words: 2.0K~ Summary: His family’s not present the third time he runs away… they never see the creature he becomes. Early corruption AU.
This chapter fought me the entire way because it's nothing but a nonstop action sequence, but oh well XD
It's done now! Enjoy.
_
Chapter 20: An Undesired Truth
“All right,” Garnet calls, summoning her gauntlets with a snappy pivot of her wrists. “This is it, Gems. Stay together, and stick to the plan.”
Defensive and strategic maneuvers only, they all agreed. No attacking to poof, unless the luster of one’s very gem depends on it. This restriction will raise the potential danger of this mission tenfold, but there’s no suitable alternative at play here. After all— given Amethyst’s disturbing yet convincing theory about its identity— they simply can’t risk harming the creature.
“On your ready—!”
The trio squares up, brandishing their weapons in preparation for whatever upsetting scene is about to rear its monstrous head over those trees. But before she can so much as utter the command to advance, the corrupted Gem’s whole upper body rises above the foliage. Her mouth falls ajar. She’s altogether paralyzed in its sight. Its mournful eyes bore into her own, inky black with glistening pink irises. A singular tear escapes her futile attempt at emotional stasis, slipping out from under her visor and dampening her cheek.
Tumblr media
Those eyes… she ruminates, her fists clenching with unrestrained anguish within the security of her gauntlets. That face, it’s—
Quick as a sheet of lightning, three separate visions surge to full color within her consciousness, spiderwebbing their way across the geometric planes of her gems and permeating through every single branching route of her hard-light form.
The first is a vital realization— of what is, never mind all their biased notions.
Another is a premonition— of what could be, should she make the wrong decision in this place.
And the last is a promise— a solemn vow to herself… to every last member of her family. An opportunity to act. To be brave.
Garnet closes her third eye.
For the first time in weeks, she knows exactly what she needs to do.
“Let’s go! Go!” she beckons to her teammates with a wave of her gauntleted hand, sensing the need to slice through their paralyzing distress.
Amethyst and Pearl both nod, their horrified expressions hardening into a diligent focus. Good. It’s iron-willed attitude like this that is sure to be their saving grace today.
And thus, with a wide, inciting slash of Amethyst’s whip against the corruption’s pink scaled legs, the encounter begins.
Stick to the plan, her own voice echoes tauntingly, now fully aware of the blunt danger she’s about to put both herself and her teammates in.
Task one: Seize the Gem’s attention. Lure them towards an open section of the beach.
Of all the stages of their scheme, this one is by far the simplest. It never took much more than encroaching upon a corrupted Gem’s territory to antagonize any of the others, and on surface, the creature the three of them face here today responds to their goading attacks no differently. The Gem thrashes their way across the sands in an almost indignant frenzy, flailing their arms and tail towards them as if vying to swat all of them right into the ocean’s wake. Amethyst leaps out of striking range of that barbed tail just in the nick of time, but alas Pearl is not so lucky. She lets loose a sharp yelp as the barest edge of this limb slams against her side, launching her all the way back to the jungle’s edge.
Garnet’s fists clench tighter within her spiked gauntlets as she skirts around the creature— now wholly distracted by her teammates’ whip and spear— from behind, setting herself up for the beginning of phase two. Can’t look, don’t look, she reminds herself, energy thrumming like a burning neutron star at her core. It wasn’t a critical strike. Pearl can more than handle herself in a fight. And anyways, she can’t let herself get distracted by the grim reminder of all the what-ifs she still can’t see, no, not for a second. She’s their captain. She steers their ship. A miracle in and of itself, she tugged the threads of this precise sequence of events out from a tapestry woven from untold millions of futures, and now all that’s left to do is ensure it won’t fray at the ends as she puts it into action— no matter the consequences.
Stick to the plan, she repeats within her mind again. Not the plan that was discussed on the ship— not anymore— but the plan she saw.
Once Pearl and Amethyst have cornered the corrupted Gem on a large enough swath of beach, she summons the first piece of Bismuth and Peridot’s handiwork from her gem, a potent energy core they cobbled together from some old scrapped ship tech fastened to a large spike that’s sturdy enough to anchor it into the dampened sand.
Task two: While the others keep the corrupted Gem distracted, lay out all six barrier axis crystals in an equidistant circle.
She stakes crystal number one as deep as she can muster and rapidly moves on to the second.
The third.
The fourth.
It’s at this stage, however, where wrangling the gargantuan beast becomes a good deal more complicated.
As she sprints towards the fifth insertion point, she senses one of the corrupted Gem’s limbs swinging towards her faster than a Roaming Eye surging into FTL travel. Out of sheer bodily habit she moves to dodge, but then—
With a mighty yell, Pearl fires off two energy bolts from her spear. They collide against a nearby palm tree, splintering the wood of its trunk and felling it atop their bright pink opponent, knocking their already disproportionate form precariously off balance. The spiked tail never reaches her.
Good, she thinks, breath heavy. Just as predicted. That’s one step closer to the path she envisioned for them all.
But now…
Garnet summons the second to last barrier axis crystal.
“Amethyst!” she barks, perhaps a bit more forceful than she intended within the heat of this encounter. “Keep the corrupted Gem within the circle! Pearl, from here on out, cover Amethyst, not me! Do not let those hands touch her!”
Pearl’s eyes flash with distress as she spins her glance to her, the motion ever so swift. “B-but what about—?”
“I’ll be fine, just watch each other’s backs, we’re almost there—“
She stakes the fifth crystal into place.
Only one left.
Their opponent slams their hind legs into the sand as they attempt a sweeping swat at Amethyst, just barely missing one of the previously placed crystals. And oh stars, these six are all Bismuth and Peridot had time to make, if he smashes one of them—
Stick to the plan, she once again reminds herself, sprinting across the beach towards the sixth insertion point, to where she’ll finally complete her circle. With Pearl covering, Amethyst will pull through in the end. She has to.
Task three.
(The Gem rears back, the horns atop their head and the crystalline spikes jutting out from their joints beginning to emit a dull glow of warning.)
In many ways, given the soul of what’s at stake, this task— while not anything she has conscious control over, merely the desperate want of a damned Gem— is the most vital of all of them:
Whatever happens, don’t get cracked.
She clenches her jaw taut as she manifests that final barrier axis crystal within her grasp, every last one of her senses tinging with expectation… the innermost facets of her gems already knowing what’s coming, already feeling what’s coming—
“Garnet, look out!”
But she doesn’t dodge. Doesn’t back down. Doesn’t deviate from the plan, from her promise. Because if she fails in her mission here… if she delays the activation of this barrier any longer… if she places her own wellbeing over Steven’s… then this lost, confused Gem will successfully push past their defenses to escape into the ocean’s murky unknown, and they’ll have lost him forever.
“I’m so, so sorry,” she chokes out to this poor, tortured creature, a singular tear rolling down her cheek as she secures the final device in the sands and uses her last millisecond of borrowed time to flick on the barrier’s power-up switch.
The corrupted Gem roars, emitting an explosive shockwave of energy powerful enough to hurl her through the air as straight as a dart, straight across this island’s tree-lined shore, straight into—
~
Pearl is helpless to do anything but watch as Ruby and Sapphire’s gemstones drop into the sand beneath that distant palm tree, Garnet’s form poofed on impact after being slammed against its trunk at terrifying force.
“Garnet!” she cries once more, her form outright stuttering with panic.
She scrambles back to her feet, brandishing her spear as she spins to face the monster that just singlehandedly poofed one of her dearest friends like it was child’s play. Stars above—! Amethyst and her are ridiculously lucky that its sonic attack wasn’t pointed their way, otherwise there’s a good chance they too would have suffered the same fate.
But there’s no time to think.
No time to fuss and fluster.
There’s barely any time to even process the loss of her fallen teammate as the corrupted Gem rears around to point those intimidatingly dark orbs their way, hungry for release… hungry for freedom.
“Hey!” Amethyst bellows from across the sands. “Keep lively, that barrier’s gotta power up for thirty seconds ‘fore it goes up, remember? We gotta keep this guy from escaping!”
Shaking away the scattered remnants of her hysteria, Pearl tightens her grip on her spear.
“Right,” she nods, leaping right back into action.
“I’ll try ta’ tie ‘em down, you keep ‘em dancing with your spear bolts!”
And so— two against one— that’s exactly what they set out to do.
She darts around the barrier’s perimeter, shooting a myriad of energy bolts around the corruption’s feet to keep it in the center as Amethyst swings up upon its back with her whip and tries to lasso it by the horns. The monster roars, clamorous and anguished. It throws its head about like a dog shedding water, knocking the quartz clear off her perch. Pearl pivots sharp on her heels as she watches Amethyst slam into the ground, the ceaseless waves of hard-light coursing through her system jittering in instinctive sympathy at the sheer ferocity of this impact. But it’s not enough to poof her, thank the stars. It’s not enough to kill what stubborn fighting spirit they both have left.
…it might’ve succeeded in distracting them, though.
Pearl gasps as she notices what’s coming, closing in on her partner with all the pinpoint finesse of a seasoned warrior.
“AMETHYST—!” she hollers, surging to action.
Mere seconds before the corrupted Gem can knock the quartz across the beach with one of its powerful, muscular arms, she readies her weapon in hand and prepares to take her shot. It’s not what Garnet would’ve wanted, but she can’t see any other choice.
With a mighty yell, Pearl hurls her spear straight at the Gem’s mouth, the point ricocheting off one of its razor sharp teeth.
The impact is jarring enough to throw its balance entirely askew.
Amethyst scrambles to her feet unharmed and rushes to join her, which would’ve served as a shining victory if it weren’t for the troubling little sight that greets them next. That monster emits a pitiable whine as it staggers around the clearing… an unmistakable line of vivid red blood dripping from the crease of its gums where its tooth had been knocked crooked. With a glittering burst of dauntingly familiar pink magic (oh, no… please, no—!), the pulp of its gaping maw stitches itself back together.
An electric hum radiates in her periphery as she stands there trembling, all but locked in place at the horrid reality of what she’s just done. She barely registers Amethyst’s harried call for attention. Barely registers the white hot surge of energy whipping up around her as the other Gem spins her whip around the corruption’s legs at sonic speed. It’s not until Amethyst outright tackles her out of the fray and the semi-spherical barrier surges to life behind them that the cruel flow of time finally catches up.
Pearl shudders, fingers scouring deep trenches in the dampened sand. She turns her head, bracing her mind and spirit for the punishing truth she’s about to gaze upon.
The creature collapses upon its side within the enclosure, breathing ragged after such a ceaseless display of ferocity and strength.
Almost entirely enshrouded from view within an endless sea of scales, the pentagonal facets of Steven’s diamond shimmers at the very center of his belly.

“y’all couldn’t even handle the moral complexities of steven universe”
You've probably seen this type of post make the rounds every so often and either agree or disagree with it. I'm of the former camp and have often pondered some of the reasons why this thesis holds water.
To start, Social Media has really changed the game in Fandom for better and for worst (the latter being too often the case). Namely in how on platforms like Tumblr and Twitter (Musk can shove that X up his ugly a-), we get fun fandom nonsense along with a 24/7 news cycle of whatever's trending.
Which means we have constant intrusion on our timelines about how the geopolitics across the globe are pretty crap. Many of us retweet things we feel may be relevant, especially when misinformation has become a vertiable economy we need to be aware of.
We also have people raising awareness of social issues that our world still endures such as sexism, racism, every kind of bigotry you can imagine. Ironically, this brings about those railling against the notion that they either still exist or need to be worked on at all in a display of said prejudices. #Gamergate didn't just spring from the ether.
Many celebrities of various levels of fame were turning out to be… pretty bad. Social Media would empower them to speak their minds and not all of it was just “their beliefs.”
To keep this focused of when Steven Universe was coming out, the end of the Obama era and Trump planting his stanky ass in the Oval Office, this was when people’s trust in each other was at an all time low.
Hell, I remember when Trump’s campaign and Brexit got many bigots to feel like they can be prejudiced without consequences. Whole reason he made it to the final two at all.
As such, how else would Uncle Andy Demayo come across as anything other than a MAGA hat wearer? How else would the Diamond Authority come off as but the powers that be who “need to be stopped?”
Steven Universe came at a time when fandom was intermingling with the real life. Fans were starting to feel insulted whenever something like fighting the government or interacting with problematic family member wasn’t answered with “Burn it to the ground!”
Notions of compassion to those who are troubled or maybe in need of a shoulder to lean on were disinterpretted in the least favorable light possible. How could SU even humor the notion that narrowminded family members or even people of power could be redeemed let alone humanized?
Essentially, it didn’t speak to the emotional climate at the time for millennials or Gen Z. It’s why we’ve celebrated Big Jack Horner and those who harken back to classic Disney villains. The kind you cheer on to be taken down a peg.
Lily Orchard didn’t start the fire. The flames were already being fanned.

Your Evil is My Good - Pyramids of Mars, 1975
Tumblr media
There are some things, though not many, that the Doctor Who fandom seems to universally agree on. Everybody seems to agree that the Weeping Angels are a great, iconic monster. Everybody seems onboard with the notion that The Caves of Androzani is one of the best stories of all time. Everybody seems to agree that the Hinchcliffe era is one of the most consistently good runs in the whole show. You can probably see where I am going with this. Pyramids of Mars has been forever lauded as one of the all-time great Doctor Who stories, a shining example of a show that appealed to all ages at the peak of its powers.
Like all consensus opinions, there is obviously a clear logic to this. Pyramids of Mars is incredibly memorable and influential. It was, after all, the third serial to be released on the VHS line and it topped the DWM poll for most anticipated DVD release in 2003. Even if it were not so formative and prominent in fan's minds (the amount of times it has been selected for re-release and repeat is remarkable) it would still be one of the most influential and groundbreaking stories of its time. It is hard to challenge the claim that Pyramids of Mars is the single most important story of the Hinchcliffe era. Not the best (there are at least four prior to this that could more readily stake that claim) but, in an aesthetic sense, the pilot episode for the Hinchcliffe era or, at least, the one where everything finally falls into place.
Prior to Pyramids of Mars, Doctor Who had functioned primarily based on the approach pioneered by Verity Lambert and David Whittaker back in the early 1960s. Their vision of Doctor Who was as a programme defined by juxtaposing aesthetics and the storytelling had developed to facilitate that by colliding genres and styles of storytelling. What debuts in Pyramids of Mars is, in hindsight, the inevitable next step which is positioning the established aesthetics and logic of Doctor Who alongside specific pulp genre stories. The difference is the distinction between the Doctor walking amongst a space opera or a western and disrupting their logics and aesthetics and the Doctor walking around within 1971’s Blood of the Mummy’s Tomb and being beholden to its logic and aesthetic.
In the 1990s, Steven Moffat infamously derided the Hinchcliffe era for comprising too largely of derivative pastiches and, while I ultimately agree with him, he is made to look a bit of a fool because of how much the approach does actually work. I like Pyramids of Mars. Of course I do. I'm a Doctor Who fan. This story is a blast to watch and it is the first in a really strong run of pulpy, gothic horror-pastiches that define the Hinchcliffe era in everybody's minds (I stress this is not the beginning of a run in terms of quality, just the start of an aesthetic period that also happens to be very good). This is a messy story but it is a very promising first showing. Pyramids of Mars proves that this model of Doctor Who can work and it lays the groundwork for better stories later down the track. after it to take this aesthetic and run into incredibly interesting places. So, as you have obviously concluded by now, this is not even close to my favourite of the Hinchcliffe era, let alone of all time.
Yes, the production of Pyramids of Mars is spectacular. Probably the single strongest aspect of the Hinchcliffe era is just how good the show was at working within its limitations. None of the stories under his watch look especially naff and Pyramids of Mars is especially luscious. The serial is dripping in tone and atmosphere and I could not begrudge anybody frequenting it for just the mood it puts you in. The sets for the house are great and effortlessly evoke that classic, hammer horror tone of an old, creepy house with creepy old dudes doing creepy *cult* (we can replace that word with *casually stereotypically racist*) stuff. The visual effects are also excellent with particular kudos to that chilling bit where Marcus gets shot. I could watch that one sequence forever.
This is not a script with a wealth of great material for the actors but there is no question that they are all exceptional. Paddy Russell even claimed as much herself, insisting upon finding strong actors to bolster material that she thought was lacking. Michael Sheard brings a lot to Laurence Scarman, the best part in the whole story from an acting perspective, but it is hard to look past Garbriel Woolf as Sutekh for the best guest performance in the serial. What a captivating voice and commanding presence. Tom Baker's performance is often praised for the seriousness and dread he brings to proceedings. He even has some particularly dark and alien moments such as his total detachment from the various deaths around him. In my opinion, however, I find his performance to be distant and disinterested, likely thanks to his frosty relationship with Russell. Luckily, it does serve this material well and offer an alienness to the role but he seems incredibly bored and pissed off every time he is onscreen.
As with this whole season though, Elisabeth Sladen is at the height of her powers and effortlessly wrings buckets of charm out of scripts that, again, serve her terribly. Following season eleven, it feels like nobody working on the show has any interest or even a take on the Sarah Jane that we were introduced to. Everybody who has ever seen this serial praises the scene where the Doctor leaves the events of the story for 1980 at Sarah's request and rightly so because it is a phenomenal sequence and possibly the most effective way to demonstrate how awesomely powerful the villain is in the whole show’s history. It's so good, of course, that Russell T. Davies had the good sense to nick it wholesale for The Devil's Chord. Everything aesthetically about Pyramids of Mars works. This is a great story to just watch and let wash over you.
However, I think that this script is deeply flawed and definitely needed another pass before it could attain true GOAT status in my books. Perhaps that will seem unfair to those who will cry out in defence with the reminder that  this story was another late rewrite from Robert Holmes when the original scripts, from one time writer Lewis Griefer, were deemed unworkable. It is somewhat miraculous that this story even got made at all. It’s difficult to say now how much of the finished serial can truly be credited to whom. Greifer, was approached by Holmes, a former colleague, while headhunting new talent. Knowing he had a keen interest in Egyptian mythology, Holmes allegedly pitched the combination of science-fiction and a mummy horror film to him. Greifer’s scripts would have been radically different including the proposed final appearance of UNIT and the Brigadier, a scheme to solve world hunger with plantations on the moon year culminated in the Doctor uniting with Horus and Iris to take on the crocodile looking Seth and stop his plan to replace the grain and destroy the moon. It is from here that the development of the serial becomes very collaborative. Holmes met with Greifer and suggested a number of scaled-back alterations that were more in-line with what Doctor Who was suited to in 1976 as well as taking on suggestions from outgoing producer Barry Letts.
Greifer revised his scripts further to what would be the basic plot of the television version, moving the detecting to Earth with an imprisoned Seth and his rocket-based plans, with the added addition of a fortune hunter seeking the world-saving rice in an ancient Egyptian tomb. Holmes remained unhappy with the scripts and, to make matters worse, Greifer fell ill after delivering a full script for the first episode only. Following his recovery, Greifer then promptly left the UK to take on a job her previously committed to leaving Holmes to do a page one rewrite with the consultation of director Paddy Russell based on what had already been put in motion. With all of this fraught pre-production in mind, I still think this story is an undercooked mess. The first episode is fantastic and I really love the third but there is so much padding in episodes two and four that really drag the whole thing down for me. The entire second episode is just spent cutting between Sutekh killing people and the Doctor setting up a plan to stop him that fails immediately: The foundations of this serial are really strong and it has some great dialogue, characters and moments but the whole thing fails to hold together for me especially in regards to pacing and the real lack of any interesting subtext to sink your teeth into. There is not much to love here that is not aesthetic.
But let's try and dig a little deeper anyway. Broadly speaking, mortality seems to be the theme that connects the various elements of the story. We are first introduced to the Doctor in what is probably my single favourite shot of him in the whole seven years he was in the show. We meet him alone, in silence and brooding in the TARDIS control room. Sarah enters in what will be a coincidentally appropriate Edwardian dress, our first indicator that this story is really all about aesthetics and flavour more than anything else, and we discover that the Doctor is in somewhat of a mid-life crisis, grappling with the uncomfortable realisation that his life is marching on and that he has no real purpose. This is a really well written and performed scene, one of the best the Doctor and Sarah ever had, and probably my favourite of the serial. While the original show on the whole is not know for deftness of characterisation and development, Pyramids of Mars proposes a potentially interesting starting place for the Doctor’s character which is simply to put him in a somewhat depressed mood and unhappy with the prospect of spending his remaining days at U.N.I.T.‘s beck and call. This a Doctor who has lost his sense of purpose and ambition. It is a great idea that could reveal a lot about the Doctor and challenge his character, as we later saw under Moffat's creative direction, but it never goes anywhere here. Pyramids of Mars is a serial about a villain who does have a defined purpose and ambition – to bring death to all of reality. Yet the person best poised to stop him is in a crisis himself about the prospect of that very thing arriving for him. The character-driven story of a wandering hero in a mid-life crisis versus the Lord of Death should simply write itself.
But it doesn't. The Doctor does not walk away from the end of this adventure with a renewed sense of self or really any semblance of change in the morose feelings he expresses in episode one. It would have been perfectly forgivable if his mid-life crisis was something that the production team set-up here and went on to develop over the season but that never happens either. The Doctor is more than happy to assist U.N.I.T. in the very next serial and yet once more before the season wraps up. The elements are all here to ie the themes and character beats together but it never really happens. For example, I would love to confidently read something deeper into the final visual of the house burning down. It is, after all, the Doctor’s defeat of Sutekh that starts the fire and we know from episode one that, later down the track, the manor is going to be rebuilt and repurposed as the U.N.I.T. headquarters.
The thematic implications of this are really nice. Sutekh wants to end everything, leaving "nothing but dust and darkness", but we all know that the manor's destruction is an ultimately necessary consequence to allow for something good to rise up from its ashes. Life always prevails and begins anew. This is a simple enough thematic beat that could have been teased out and made a lot stronger and it could even have been a clear indicator of some character resolution. With the Doctor inadvertently facilitating the conception of U.N.I.T., this whole image could represent his coming to terms with his place in the universe after combatting Sutekh and passionately redefining himself and coming to terms with a now mythic role as a defender of all life in the universe, a champion of change and renewal. It is something almost there in the script but not quite.
The use of Egyptian iconography in this story is very clever. We know that death was an incredibly important aspect of their culture. People's corpses were mummified to preserve them for the afterlife since death was very much believed not to be the end. There is some cool world-building in this story and I really like the idea that Egyptian culture is all founded upon the wars of the Osirans (Osiris being the Egyptian god of the dead and of fertility). Sutekh is directly mentioned as being the inspiration for Set, realised as well as one could expect in his final beastly form, and the whole premise of the story is hinging upon his previous eternal imprisonment at the hands of brother Horus. I love that the bringer of death is punished by having an eternally unlived life. I think that this context is intended to be paralleled with Marcus and Lawrence. The pair are brothers and, for most of the story, the former literally is Sutekh.
Or, in another sense, it might be helpful to take the Doctor’s advice and consider Marcus as already dead. That plays nicely into the broader subtext we are reaching for here of exploring different relationships with death. Lawrence is in denial of his brother’s death since he sees him walking, talking and breathing. The Doctor thinks otherwise, confidently claiming Marcus to be dead already and no longer Lawrence’s brother now that his mind has been overtaken. We should note the Doctor and Sarah’s later scene too where she expresses a lot of sorrow over Lawrence’s death while the Doctor more or less just shrugs, if anything he comes off mildly annoyed, and refuses to deviate from the bigger priority of stopping Sutekh. It is a very memorable and somewhat disturbing scene, the likes of which the modern characterisation of the character never lends itself to. Even the Twelfth Doctor at his most callous was condemned by everybody around him and served his greater character growth. In the case of this moment, it is Sarah who is framed to be in the wrong for imparting human values upon the Doctor which is a potentially interesting notion but not a thread Holmes ever seems interested on pulling on again.
But I’ve digressed. There is potentially something very cool in the parallel between the four brothers but, again, the story is in dire need of another draft to really pull it to the fore. Lawrence is ultimately killed by his brother in quite a genuinely tragic moment since he is such a well performed and written character but the actual implications and significance of the scene beyond just the sheer shock value are ultimately lost on me. Marcus ends up never even knowing he did this, presumably, since he is killed the second he is freed from Sutekh. If Lawrence could be read as a parallel with Horus, or perhaps more closely of Osiris if we are considered the actual Osiris myth, what is this actually supposed to communicate? To depict for us that Sutekh would kill his own brother given the chance, as we know he did? That there is no humanity to appeal to with this villain? I am not sure of the intention but the scene, like this whole story, is almost fantastic.
And then there is the final episode. Every critic of this story before me has already torn this episode to pieces but I will just take it on briefly and note that the whole story just kind of falls apart at this point. The opening scenes with the Doctor and Sutekh are awesome but as soon as we actually get to the titular location, Holmes starts playing for time really hard. The first three episodes are already padded out to the max with extended woodland chases, an awkwardly large number of scenes where the Doctor and Sarah are simply walking to the poacher's shed and the entire character of the poacher himself in episode two who interacts with none of the main cast (save Marcus) and is just killed anyway. None of this blatant stretching of the script bends to breaking point thanks to how strong the production is at capturing the horror tone and aesthetic but the fourth episode is not so lucky. What we have here, for most of the episode, is an extended sequence of the Doctor and Sarah attempting an Egyptian themed escape room. This could have been compelling and some of the puzzles are kind of cool but the presentation is actually quite awful and the whole logic of this situation kind of escapes me. I suppose that Horus set these up to stop Sutekh’s followers from getting into the pyramid but does he just have the same voice as Sutekh? Is that what is going on?
It also does not help the story that this section is all shot on CSO and, aside from some great model work, looks incredibly cheap and bad. The serial takes a really shoddy nosedive but the biggest insult of this whole affair is simply that the whole episode is a colossal waste of time. The Doctor and Sarah accomplish nothing in going to the pyramid and just turn around to go back to the house to save the day with a totally different plan by the end anyway. Neither the characters nor the audience gain anything at all from the whole sequence.
Thus, this is the great conflict I have with Pyramids of Mars because I love watching it. I love the flavour of the story and the clear effort that everybody put in to make it the memorable, entertaining experience. For the most part, I am really sucked in by it. But it is not a masterpiece. In the end, there really isn't very much to say about it at all. This is a serial that feels like watching the tracks being laid when the train's already moving. It makes for a fun journey but the final destination is really shaky. Pyramids of Mars is exceptional in theory just leaves that little bit to be desired.
It is still a cracking story though. After all, this is mid-70s Who we’re talking about.

What do you think is the worst take Lily had in her "steven universe is garbage" video
easy.
the one where she said that because Ruby and Sapphire (the two aliens who have lived for millenia together in case you forgot) were not "real representation" because they never call themselves girlfriends on screen. they just have a little wedding and kiss on screen and flirt to the point of embarrassing Steven, but no, no real representation. attached to that, the notion that Garnet (the being who literally sings about being made of love) is a walking closet.

You've been given an unlimited budget to adapt one of your works into a different medium; what are you adapting, into what medium and what aspect of it are you sparing no effort in getting PERFECT?
MAAAAAAAN this is such a fun question, i think about making an animated adaptation of cool kid cody all the time. if i had literally no limitations, this is how i'd want it:
option 1: ckc as a long-running cartoon network style show that covers the usual 30 episodes of the game, but with like a dozen new episodes sprinkled in for "filler". maybe we could have an episode that was a flashback focused on mini's struggle to ascend and how it strained her friendship with rhyme, or maybe an episode where s2 cody and peter hide out in steve's skateshop from a cool kid biker gang and steve saves the day by dismantling their bikes in the blink of an eye. idk but having some extra room to develop the characters further would be rad, plus this way the show wouldn't be a straight rehash of the game.
option 2: ckc gets scott pilgrimified?? it's released episodically as a shorter series with longer episodes and stellar animation, probably on netflix (pretend we live in a magical world where netflix NEVER kills its animated series in the second season). the show's animation is handled by science saru, since we know they can do a mean skateboarding scene. unlike with scott pilgrim: takes off, i'd want this to be more of a straight adaptation of the game, just with proper animated treatment, better control over the pacing of scenes, artsy close ups or long shots, whatever. i want this shit to be beautiful!!!
other must-haves:
it'd be great if the show could have a similar release schedule to the game. like, episodes released weekly over the course of a typical western school semester, just before summer. it just lines up nicely with the in-game dates.
real sonic the hedgehog voice actor deven mack as cody??
i'd love it if the sound department could keep as many motifs from the game's ost as possible, obviously adapting them so they're less distracting in a tv show context.
use thwack.ogg at least once.
a short semi-tropey anime inspired opening where the characters statuses update with the show (like in steven universe's openings).
set the opening to the first verse of notion by the rare occasions (it's nostalgic and anti-gods), and swap out the verse for the next one every season. s3 ending with this verse would go so hard:
I could cross the ocean in a fit of devotion For every shining second, this fragile body beckons You think you're owed it better believing ancient letters Sure it's a calming notion, but it's a lie.
anyway those're all my ideas for now, time to throw a wrench in my plans as i waffle over whether or not to make a cool kid cody amv myself.

chase and kaz headcanons?
Two years late, so sorry. Surprised I don't have more to be honest.
Kaz actually takes a parent-role for AJ earlier than Chase
If/Since they weren’t dating when they first became AJ’s honorary dads, AJ makes tons of jokes about how they should be together.
They are not jokes.
Kyle and Daniel also joke about it because kids see all
Everyone on the team sees like… really weird romantic/sexual tension during missions and just assume that Chase and Kaz also know it’s there.
Kaz is Chase’s hype man, we all know this.
But Chase tries to return the favour, but it just comes out as awkward, gay-panicky praise.
Kaz thinks it’s adorable tho.
Before their relationship, Kaz works out at night so that he doesn’t have to be in the same room as an exercising Chase. He is not productive when he is.
Kaz watches ‘kids,’ cartoons and Chase ridicules them at first, but gains a strange appreciation after Steven Universe.
I’m here for Kaz letting Chase know that his passions are okay
Leo messing with both of them about their feelings for each other
Chase didn’t talk much about Kaz over calls with Douglas; over compensation for his feelings. That’s why Douglas assumed Kaz was Oliver and why he knew more about Skylar, but had no preconceived notions about Kaz.
Chase considers Kaz one of his weaknesses, since he tends to let him do whatever he wants (see Need for Speed and Game of Drones)
Chase really likes seeing Kaz in doctor mode, especially when he goes doctor mode over him. It makes him think of starting a family with Kaz, which always immediately makes him panic.

my opinion on anything watcher has long since passed being relevant but my main thoughts are
privatized streaming is always antithetical to any 'leftist' notion of universal, available services and is going to alienate their most devoted fans (international)
that being said, I also think it is one of the only survivable tools that isn't literally playing into youtube's hands, which the watcher boys have aired grievances about before
editors, camera people, directors, etc deserve fair compensation and reasonable timelines.
and from a very brief glance at view analytics, I don't think watcher is quote-unquote profitable. popular and afloat maybe, but it's not what 2018 was (nor do i think it can be), so they were probably forced to switch gears
watcher is ultimately a business. trying to hold them (esp shane) to the same standards we hold other comrades is impossible as they literally have different interests
steven is (historically) a bigger part of artistic direction than people want to believe (a lot of the behind-camera talent that leads to the high-quality aspect, for instance)
and ryan and shane are a bigger part of business than people think, being literally joint CEOs (knowing to play up and into their friendship, cutting/backburnering shows that won't turn profits)
tldr bad business decision made by people who aren't business people. which is good, because business is about extracting value, but also bad, because there's no good move here and they picked a bad one

Just wanted to second that notion you were saying to the previous anon about growing up and realizing that some of the stuff you loved as a kid does not carry through as you age into an adult. I use to have no problem with Vlad's ending in Danny Phantom, and didn't bat an eye to the corruption of Jack Spicer's character in Xiaolin Showdown. Now that I've' grown up and am a writer myself, I see how much potential they had to be great characters and so many ways they could have been used for great storytelling and themes in their shows but were ultimately wasted by some, imo, poor writing direction. As well as a long list of many other flaws I've seen jumping out of their shows now that I'm seeing them again as an adult (that doesn't mean I don't still have fondness for them, I just see them through a different lens now). So far I feel like Kim Possible, Ed Edd n eddy and Avatar are some of the few millennial cartoons that I can list on the top of my head right now that's actually aged well in terms of character and story development, as least imo, and I think it's because the writers and staff members just weren't afraid to bend the status quo and actually took challenges to bring out some amazing stories and nuances in their characters.
I really wish TOH had gone that route, and it looked like it was but tragically for some reason decided not to . That's why I'm forever grateful for cartoons like Steven Universe and Amphibia. Those shows were not afraid to challenge the status quo or show their characters having flaws and toxic habits that they had to face. Something that you begin to relate to as you grow older, and ultimately it's those types of shows that shine like diamonds throughout the millennia's.
Here is the previous anon ask. Yeah, what makes toh so disappointing is that it promised early on that it was going to challenge its protagonist and had such an interesting premise and world to play around in. Only for all that potential to be thrown out or heavily watered down.
My only hope is that future creators will look to see what toh faltered at but also what it successfully managed to pull off. What made shows like Amphibia and Steven Universe successful is that they had a core of strong characters that let their personalities bounce off (and occasionally clash with) each other. They both explored the potential and complexities of their worlds and made their characters grow instead of making excuses for them.
Toh is excellent at introducing tantalizing concepts but terrible at the execution.
