ok maybe this is a hot take but I just don't care but I hate pierre gringoire (from the hunchback of Notre Dame novel I just learned he's also a real person and-?) because like, biggest gripe? Esmerelda, a stranger at the time, was willing to marry him, another stranger, to save his life from execution, like on the spot, no strings attached and then when Esmerelda is faced with execution for a crime she did not commit, what does he do? What does he do for the woman he's been married to for seven years at this point? lets her get hung and steals her goat like??!?! what? "hey thanks for saving me all those years ago, good luck with the gallows xoxo~"

me: what is fundamentally wrong about the hunchback of Notre Dame 2 is giving Quasimodo a girlfriend. the basis of any romantic relationship is mutual love not just for your partner but for yourself as well, you can't really love someone without loving yourself first and honestly that's something Quasimodo still struggles with even after the time skip the sequel gives us because the cruel abuse frollo put him through is still there, he still struggles to see himself as human and not a monster, I like the idea of teaching Quasimodo about love and all it's kinds (familial, platonic, romantic ect) espically since he's been starved of it his entire life, but the sequel clearly cut every corner to shove a girl into the equation and in this essay I will- also me (a raging hypocrite): I think Quasimodo, Esmerelda, and Phoebus should all hold hands together :)

it is totally historically accurate for Audry to be chewing bubble gum with the movie was sent in 1914

the first commercially successful bubble gum first hit shelves in 1848 in Maine with patents being filed in the 1860's

now the pink bubble gum she's seen with diden't become a thing until 1928 when double bubble was invented, but interestingly enfough she could have been using juicy fruit gum, it being created in 1893

Ok like we need to talk about Clopin, mostly “Bells of Notre Dame” because like, there is so much to unpack there

First off, how? Like ok so, everyone involved in said story is either too young to remember (Quasimodo), trying to keep it under the rug (Frollo, the archdeacon) or dead (everyone else) right? So how he knew is a story in it of itself is the question but the bigger question is why-?

Because like the absolute guts he would need to have? Because like he’s telling this story, in public. in broad daylight. Like in a time and place where Frollo would have him hung, drawn, and quartered for breathing in the wrong direction and Clopin just goes “yolo what if I aired his dirty laundry?” and like for what? To humanize Quasimodo? To stick it to Frollo? Both? Like, I don’t get it, but I highly respect it, and now I need Clopin's history because like-? for a narrator he's bringing up more questions than he's answering
