𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: headcannons pertaining your growing relationship with the trollhunter.
𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: jim lake jr x fem!reader
When you met Jim, it was a normal day of school.
At least, for you it was.
For Jim, he had just been approached by two giant stone creatures telling him that he’s now their protector, and then he was attacked by an evil troll who totally kicked his ass.
But you couldn’t have known that, so it was just a normal school day.
You’d always known he existed, having gone to school with him since Kindergarten.
But you’d never been friends, that was for sure.
A few days before you had signed up to be a history tutor, needing some school approved service hours.
And just your luck, you had a session scheduled with Jim Lake Jr.
He was jittery, that was the first thing you realized. His eyes couldn’t stay focused on one thing for longer than two seconds, always jumping to the window.
You had been reaching for your pencil case, which was in your bag under the table. That was when you noticed his bruised up arms. Frozen in place, you also saw a large gash peeking out from his pant leg, just visible on his ankle.
It wasn’t your place to say anything, you knew. You barely knew Jim! But still… was he is trouble?
The thought distracted you, causing you to hit the back of your head on the underside of the table.
Wincing, you raised your head, spying Jim giving you a concerned look. You found yourself giving him a similar, more extreme stare.
“So… I think we were on the Ottoman Empire in class, right?”
You didn’t answer. You didn’t think you could, not without asking. It became too much after an awkward second, and you blurted out the question. “Jim, did somebody hurt you?”
The way his face lost its color sent a shiver down your spine.
He laughed a laugh that was clearly forced—strangled even. “What makes you ask that?”
“Jim… Look at you. You’re all scratched up.”
A thick silence follows your tentative declaration.
“Oh yeah,” he chuckled. “I, uhm, I tried to ride my bike down the side of the canal. It didn’t go so well, as you can see.”
It was a good excuse, you thought, but did you believe it? Not for a second. It took you only a few moments before your eyes narrowed and you scooted your chair closer to his.
Jim thought you looked murderous the longer he was locked in contact with your eyes.
“Was it Steve Palchuk? ‘Cause if it was we need to say something. This is beyond bullying, Jim.”
What was he supposed to say? Oh, nah, don’t worry, Y/N. I was just beaten to near death by a stone giant last night. No biggy.
She’d walk him to an asylum herself.
Apparently, Jim took too long to respond, which to you was an response enough. You scoffed to yourself, shoving back in your seat with crossed arms. “I cannot believe that bitch. He won’t get away with this.”
Jim just fiddled with his pencil, eyes on his textbook. He didn’t know much about Y/N L/N, but he knew she was a force to be reckoned with. Ever since elementary school she’d taken charge in city clean ups, protested in cities as far as D.C., made speeches that changed the minds of Arcadia’s city council and their school board.
When she was mad about something, everyone knew, and she wouldn’t be placated till there was a change.
Jim had to hide his smirk behind his palm; he could just imagine Steve receiving the flame that the girl beside him would unleash.
He had to ask, “What’re you gonna do?”
Your answer was instantaneous. “Talk to him, I think. I know him well enough, us being cousins and all.”
That was a shock for sure.
A day later, Jim was walking into school when he heard the tell tale sound of your voice. He turned the corner, stopping short at the sight before him.
You, at least a head shorter than Steve, had the poor guy gripped by the ear and pulled down to your height. Jim didn’t stick around to listen to what you were saying, seeing the fury all over your face and not wanting either of you to spy him loitering there.
But Jim had to admit, the look of terror on Steve’s face was hilarious.
After that, your tutoring sessions became more and more natural over time. The conversation drifted away from history and toward other things like interests and fun stories.
Not only that, but the time drew on longer till it wasn’t so much a tutoring session as much as it was just two friends hanging out.
It didn’t take long for Jim to realize he enjoyed spending time with you much more than he wanted to.
Much more than he wanted to.
He thinks he realized how much he actually liked you around a few months before everything went to shit.
Jim offered to walk you home when the session dragged on so long that the moon had risen into the sky.
“You don’t live too far from me, I don’t mind.”
It was as they neared your driveway that he caught sight of Blinky from the corner of his eye, shooting fear straight to his heart.
The many-eyed troll was rustling in the bushes, tailing him and you. You were oblivious, going on about the pranks you had planned for the upcoming April Fools Day.
Jim wanted to be listening to you, mostly so he could avoid your schemes, but also because he enjoyed the lightheartedness with which you spoke. It was a nice change from the woe he heard whenever he entered Trollmarket. But he couldn’t give you the focus he wanted with Blinky just seven feet form being spotted.
“Welp,” you sighed. “This is where we part.”
Disappointment was on both of your minds as you smiled at each other.
He managed to hold it together when, after a moment of hesitation, you lurched forward to wrap him in a hug. Surprised, he glanced up over your shoulder to see Blinky giving him four thumbs ups.
He used one arm to hug you back, and the other to flip the troll off.
Being the Trollhunter was dangerous for not only Jim and everyone involved. And as the two of you started to hang out without the pretense of you being his tutor, he swore to himself that you would never find out his secret.
But as you grew closer, it became increasingly difficult to hide anything from you.
You always found his new injuries and scrapes and even once somehow detected his bruised ribs. After a while, you became suspicious, no longer assuming your cousin was behind it.
You didn’t want to assume anything severe, but you had to worry about his home life.
You knew his mother—you’d met Dr. Lake when you ended up sitting together to watch Jim in Romeo and Juliet—and you didn’t get the feeling she would ever get… physical with him. The very thought made you shudder.
If not that, then what was it? Jim didn’t seem the street fighter type. It caused you more worry than you’d like to admit.
Over the past few months of knowing Jim Lake Jr., you think you’d be comfortable calling him your best friend. You two spent nearly everyday talking, whether it was between class or on the phone every once in a while.
And it was obvious to everyone except to you that there was chemistry.
It caused Toby some anguish to say the least.
Speaking of which, you’d grown closer with Jim’s best friend too, something you hadn’t expected.
Toby was a good friend to you, always taking time out of his day to ask about yours, questioning your every “It was fine” and demanding to know what was so “fine” about it. In return, he offered his own tales of misery, getting a laugh out of you nearly every time.
You didn’t notice how he physically grimaced whenever you brushed off his attempts at finding out what you thought about ol’ Jimbo.
Moving on from all of that, to you, things were going great! Your grades could be better, but you had better friends than you’d ever had before. Added to your ranks was Claire Nuñez, and over time… well, you had to admit that you were suspicious.
Jim’s crush on Claire had been ever so obvious ever since the fourth grade, but that wasn’t it (Or rather, you hoped that wasn’t it).
No matter how much you told yourself you were paranoid, you thought the three of them were hiding something.
It hurt to say the least. You were friends… right? Did friends keep secrets?
This was what you thought as you sat alone during lunch, contemplating the way Jim, Toby, and Claire made some poor excuse about having to go to a chess club meeting.
You knew they weren’t a part of the chess club. You were president of the chess club. How did they not know that? Were they that bad at lying? Or did they not care if you knew how much they actually hated you?
…
You were overthinking. They didn’t hate you. Jim certainly didn’t, you think. He was so kind and caring and thoughtful… your cheeks burned red at the thoughts running across your mind… you shook your head, reasoning that there must be an explanation that didn’t involve thier secret vendetta against you.
You just had to find out what it was.
But as they abandoned you more and more for their secret escapades, and as they ditched you to work on group projects alone, and they generally lied time and time again… you grew tired of the confusion.
Your cousin was starting to warm up to you, something about his brutish personality shifting over the course of that school year. He noticed first how you sat alone at lunch, and then he looked around at his table full of kids… and realized he too was alone—in a mental sense, that is.
So he picked up his tray and bag and trudged over to your table in the corner of the lunchroom.
The look of shock on your face didn’t fade away till he was sitting there across from you, and you deduced that he probably wasn’t here to tease you.
The conversation was slow at first, even dull, just small talk, but then he caught sight of the comic book tucked under your lunch tray.
He hesitated, knowing his friends at the other table had made fun of him for liking those sort of things… but you had never done that before. Steve could trust you... probably.
So he asks you about it, and you go into a long winded explanation of it, only for him to interrupt with, “I know what it is… I’ve got the entire set back home.”
You blinked, shocked, and you thought that maybe your cousin Steve wasn’t so terrible after all.
Your friends wanted to ditch you? Fine. You’d make yourself useful and stop being their deadweight. It was somewhat freeing, no matter how much it pained you to sweep past Jim’s sweet smile and ready sandwich (made just how you like it). But it was for the best. You couldn’t stand the way they treated you.
It was only a month after you severed ties with them that you realized how much they’d impacted you.
You no longer found Nougat Nummies that Toby had put in your backpack. You could no longer ask Claire for help with studying. You couldn’t waltz into Jim’s house like you owned the place, hop up onto his counter, and spiel on and on about whatever was on your mind while Jim cooked food around the kitchen.
You might’ve missed that last one more than the other memories.
You might’ve missed Jim more than the others.
And you might’ve liked him a bit too much too.
On Jim’s side, he knew why you’d grown distant. It pained him to keep such a big secret from you, especially when he could see it was hurting you, but what else could he do? Tell you he’s the Trollhunter?
No. Jim would never do that to you. If you knew, then they would find you. You’d wind up hurt. It was bad enough he’d dragged Claire into all this, but you? Jim couldn’t stand the thought of you getting hurt.
He didn’t think about how much not having you in his life would hurt.
Maybe a month goes by, and the two of you get back to a steady rhythm without the other. Unbeknownst to you, your old friends were preparing for war.
How could you know? How could you have prepared? Simple. You couldn’t have.
So that’s why, the night of the school dance, instead of going to that stupid party just to stand alone in the corner, you decided you would be getting your answers.
What spurred this sudden quest? You didn’t know. But you needed to know what you did wrong. What had you done to drive Jim away?
So that’s how you ended up on his doorstep at just the wrong moment.
Before you knocked on the door, you heard crashing and shouting from inside.
Your heart raced. Were you right about Jim being hurt at home. You decided to raise your voice. “Jim?! Jim, are you in there!”
Inside, Jim heard your yells, and a pang of fear swelled up in him.
He stood in armor of glowing silver beside his high school principal, who looked nothing like the lanky man everyone knew him as, yet appeared as a green skinned creature with jagged wings. A changeling.
And across from him was an ancient entity, with eyes blank and voidish, and a smirk that sent shivers down the boys spine. Angor Rot.
The fight had gone still at the sound of your pounding fist against the door. Jim didn’t like the sadistic gleam in Angor’s dark eyes.
“Jim! Open this door! Are you all right?!”
No. No. No. No. No. No. No.
This couldn’t be happening. He’d tried so hard to keep safe, to keep you away from all of this!
He should’ve known better; you weren’t so easily shoved off, and you never knew when to quit.
Angor swept to greet you with Jim hot on his tail, swinging his sword wildly.
He was too late.
A long story short, you were way in over your head with this one.
Being the hostage of a centuries old… thing was so not on your bucket list. Yet, here you were, shaking as Angor Rot held a dagger to your neck. His entire being stenched of age, and you had to hold in your gagging lest it push you forth into the blade.
You didn’t know what to do. You didn’t knwo what was happening. But you knew Jim was there. He was right there, wearing his armor from Romeo and Juliet and wielding the same prop sword that didn’t look so prop-like now.
He was right there, and he was looking at you, and you were looking at him, and you were both terrified.
“Jim,” you whispered, scared that even the slight word would force your skin forth and the knife would slit her neck. “Jim, what’s going on?”
Angor chuckled darkly as he peered down at you. “Ah, that’s right. You have no idea what your friend has been doing in the shadows.”
Your gaze was directed at Jim, your jaw shaky and your eyes wide with confusion. “What–?”
“So, Trollhunter,” Angor seethed. “Shall we risk your flower’s life today?”
You hadn’t been killed, fortunately. It all happened so fast, and all you really remembered was Jim fighting that thing, the changeling happening to be your principal, Dr. Lake in mortal danger, and an underground city of stone creatures.
The same underground city you now sat in, the boy of the hour right beside you. Neither of you had said a word since everything calmed down. It was driving you mad.
You raised your eyes to see Dr. Lake standing nearby, safe now that the battle with Angor was over. Then you swiveled to face Jim, your face screwed up.
“Jim… who are you?”
He didn’t have much of a choice. You’d seen all you’d seen, hurt and fought alongside him despite never lifting a weapon against anyone in all your life. You deserved the truth.
“I’m the Trollhunter.”
It took nearly an hour for him to explain everything, and when it was all said and done, your jaw was hanging open. You now sat on the step below him, looking up at the boy you now knew was so terribly brave. Everything he’d gone through… it nearly made you forgive him.
You’d known Jim Lake Jr. as one thing for months and months, and now it seemed he was something entirely different.
He wasn’t a scared kid who needed you to defend him to your ex-jerk of a cousin. He was strong and held himself with a certain dignity and humility that you envied. Yeah, he was awkward and foolish at times—foolish like when he ditched you just to keep you safe, which you supposed was understandable given that night’s events—but you liked him anyway.
You really liked him, despite all the pain and confusion and this fast turn of events.
He hadn’t changed, you realized as you just stared up at him whilst he awaited what you would say.
He was Jim, the boy you could have called your best friend had anyone asked, and the boy you had slowly harbored a crush on.
It was this thought process that made you lock eyes with him. You didn’t like secrets, and you hated lying. You sucked in a breath and put everything out in the open for him to see.
“I like you, Jim.” The words were harder than you thought. “You don’t have to like me too, I just needed to say it. I want to be your friend no matter what, and I guess I can understand why you’d keep this from me. I just… I need you to know you can trust me.”
There. There it was. A confession, an offer, a pledge. It was everything you needed to say.
And as you forced yourself to keep looking at Jim, you saw his eyes flutter and his jaw hang a bit. You felt slightly nauseous as your words came back to your memory. Had you said something you shouldn’t have?
“You like me?”
It was your time to blink blankly. That was all he got from that? You cracked a grin, not knowing where this was going. “Yeah. I really like you.”
He couldn’t believe it. He thought surely you would hate him, or at the very least never want to see his face again. But you liked him? Even after all that? After all the lies?
You liked him back?
Jim smiled, hand reaching for yours, itching to grab your hand, only for him to pull back at the awkward last second.
You tilted your head, wondering just what you were getting yourself into as you took his hand and gripped it tight.
Trollmarket was in shambles all around. Jim’s mother’s memory was wiped. His principal was a changeling. Enrique was in the Darklands. But you were there, and you were on his side.
Still, he had secrets to keep. Secrets from you, Toby, Claire, Blinky. Everyone.
So as he dropped your hand with a subtle drop to his smile, he thought back to all that had happened, all that had been lost, and all that could be lost in the future.
“I like you too,” said Jim. You didn’t notice how his eyes filled with pain as he excused himself to deal with some Trollhunter business.
You didn’t realize that might’ve been the last time you saw him as he turned away and walked off in a hurry.
How could you have known? You were new to this. You had no clue about the bridge or Enrique or Jim’s promise to Claire.
So when you saw Claire and Toby run by with panicked expressions, you were quick to rush after them. You had no clue what was going on, but you’d always been quick on the uptake.
Jim was going someplace he should not be going alone. He was leaving them all behind to go there. He was going to the Darklands.
You had just gotten him back, and now, he was ditching you again.
Sure, it was meant to be heroic, but you just wanted your best friend to stick around for a little while.
Weeks go by, and you assist in Claire and Toby’s search for a way to save Jim. Eventually you help to free him, somehow managing to survive a short traipse through the Darklands.
It was safe to say you weren’t letting Jim get too out of sight for a time after that, and he wasn’t going to complain.
He never kept anything from you again, admitting it was torture to keep lying to you and keep you at a distance.
Jim often felt so out of touch with the rest of the world, being stuck in the middle of human and troll lives, and it was easy for him to disassociate and just brush everyone off. It was days like those that Jim was glad he had you.
“Jim?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
You’d only sigh, catching the way he kept zoning out, getting lost in his own head. In your opinion, he’d been through too much to be only sixteen. So you took his hand or drew him in for a hug or just slung an arm around him--any of the like would do.
Instantly, his nerves would calm and his attention drawn back to the present.
“You don’t have to be fine, you know.”
He hadn’t known that, not really. Not until he met you.
Those all around you two would notice a distinct change in Jim’s demeanor, so subtle yet so clear. He was somehow softer, which Toby hadn’t thought possible, and the light in his eyes began to spark up again.
His mother was especially grateful, loving the life you brought back into Jim. Blinky adored your very nature. Draal tolerated your eagerness to train with him. Vendel mused your every demanding question.
It wasn’t long before Jim got nervous; you were now one more person he couldn’t stand losing.
But you never let his thoughts run too wild, somehow always one step ahead of his overthinking, ready to put out every doubt and every fear.
“Hey, listen. You’re stuck with me, Lake. Nothing, especially not Bular or Gunmar or any other creep, is ever going to keep me from getting back to you.”
He wasn’t sure how to express just how much you meant to him, so he settled for a watery grin. “Back at you.”
I love you was just a breath away from being spoken into reality, but neither you nor Jim were eager to shove it out there. The fact was there whether it was spoken or not, and the both fo you were well aware of its presence.

Forgotten in the Frosted Hills: Part 1
'Post my forgotten WIPs' won out on the poll, so here's chapter one of a Krel x Fem!Reader who likes the cold fic. Sorry Skrael lovers, he does feature but isn't the pairing.
Word Count: 1750 || Rating: Teen || Warnings: Mild Threat/Violence || Tags (Chapter Specific): Plot-Focused, Reasonably Canon-Compliant, Adventure, Fantasy Realism, First Encouters, Prologue, Reader is English for Specific Arcadia Canon Purposes.
------
You didn’t mind the cold. In fact, compared to the heatwaves of summer, you absolutely adored it. People often questioned how you could stand to walk around in light dresses when everyone else wore thermals. Truth was, you liked being chilly. The bitterest winter winds were a tickle on your skin, and in the cold you finally felt like you could focus. Summer sunshine only ever brought discomfort, leaving you stranded indoors where you would not burn or melt.
People often commented on your odd preference, but you didn’t mind. Not until your oddity caught the eye of someone you wished it didn't.
It was a mid-winter afternoon in rural England. Not as cold as usual for the time of year, but certainly enough to keep most people indoors. You, however, were out on the hills. The fields were empty, cattle nestled up warm in barns some many miles away, giving you the freedom to wander at your leisure. No coat. No hat. Just a thin dress, and tights that had no other function than to hide the imperfections of your legs.
You were strolling the hillsides, trying your best to locate an unusual tree-stump that had caused a ruckus at school today. Apparently, it had appeared out of nowhere, but looked like an ancient throne. You didn’t know if you believed the rumour, but it never hurt to check on days like today. It was too cold for anyone else to be out, meaning you could make a fool of yourself if the rumour turned out to be fake, and no one would know.
It was odd, actually. The past few days, you’d almost been certain someone was watching you. With fields stretching on for miles out here, though, there was nowhere for someone to hide.
You walked on, wondering if the colder bite to the air was just your imagination. But as you carried on, you began to notice frost speckling the grass underfoot. Your breath turned to white clouds. You smiled. You hoped that meant snow.
When you reached the peak of the hill, you stilled. Beyond, the land fell into a shallow crater, sloped on every side. It was a natural phenomenon, though the people from town often said it had ties to the Fae. You usually scoffed at such stories, and had wandered here plenty to know that wasn’t true.
But this time the crater – and the crater, alone – was white. Not with snow. With frost. And there, in the saddle between the four hillsides stood the throne, its dark wood standing out against the icy ground.
You edged down the slope to get a closer look, watching your footing as the frost turned thicker. With every few steps, the air grew colder. Alarmingly so. You’d never felt it so clearly before. It was fresh and invigorating, and you were sure any other person would have turned back with frostbite by now.
You felt eyes on you as you descended into the crater. When you were almost close enough to touch the throne, you stopped. The hairs along your arms and neck were prickling. You scanned the hilltops for signs of a lurker, but no one was there. But there had to be. You could feel them.
After a moment, you turned your attention back to the throne. Now that you were close, you could see the intricate carvings in the wood. They looked old. You’d walked this part of the hills many times before. A tree-throne this worn, it should have been here for decades, but you had never seen it before.
Being a reluctant skeptic, you hoped this was proof enough of something more than human. You wanted to believe. Perhaps now you could.
Figuring you needed to give it a once over to make sure it wasn’t some artsy installation, you ran your hands along the bark, then froze as a humourless chuckle carried on the wind.
“Don’t you feel it?”
Someone was behind you. You turned to look, but found no one there. Yet the hairs on the back of your neck still prickled.
“You aren’t like the others.”
This time, the voice sounded more concrete. Not something you could so easily dismiss.
You turned to look at the throne once more, coming face to face with a being that was as ancient as time itself. Your breath caught. You were too surprised to move.
He looked thin, with skin as blue as frost, eyes as black and as bright as the night sky, and was wrapped in a shroud with the skull of some ancient horned being adorning his head. It was not in his face that you saw his age, for his façade looked no older than you, but as soon as you laid eyes upon him, you felt your own mortality, and how small it was in the presence of his eternity.
He smiled a wicked smile.
“At last, we meet in person.”
He sat in the throne, one knee hooking over its arm as he claimed it leisurely, exposing a portion of his bare leg as his shroud slipped down into his lap.
“Aren’t you… cold?” You asked. It was a strange thing to ask, out of every uncertainty running rampant in your mind, yet somehow felt the safest of many questions. Suddenly, here was a being confirming every wild story of the Fae you had ever heard. He was physical proof that there was more to the world than what it seemed. Yet you were too scared to ask about any of it.
His smile grew wider, his eyes unblinking.
“I fathom I am just as cold as you.”
You almost told him that you didn’t feel the cold, only you stopped yourself once you saw the blackened ends of his fingertips, plagued by frostbite.
He noticed what you had seen. Raising a hand to study himself, turning it this way and that, he spared it but a glance before returning attention to you in full.
“Haven’t you ever wondered why the cold doesn’t bother you? Why it is, that others must wrap themselves in layers when the temperatures plummet, and you do not?”
How did he know that?
In a blink, he was behind you. His hands found your bare arms and he trailed his fingers across your skin. They felt so incredibly, impossibly cold. But it was not uncomfortable. He mused, pressing his nose into the side of your hair, his breath against your ear.
“My touch can kill animals, and wither plants to nought. Yet, you do not flinch.”
He slipped in front of you, hovering off the ground, bringing his face close to yours. His white-blue irises were so bright they were frightening.
You felt a dread welling in your stomach, one that could not be abated as you took a step back. At last we meet in person, he had said. Who was he, this creature from whom you could feel not an ounce of kindness, yet spoke to you without malice? He was asking questions you had never pondered, making you wonder about impossibilities no human ever need wonder.
“I… like the cold.” You said after a moment, aware he was hinting at such a thing anyway. “But who are you? Why does it sound like you know me?”
You being here was coincidence, and nothing more. It was by chance you had stumbled onto him, by chance you had sought out the throne. He knew all about your preference for the cold, yet it could simply be his deduction. You had willingly wandered into the middle of a frost-patch in a dress, after all.
“I am Skrael of the North Wind,” he offered. But his next words sent a shiver down your spine. “And you are to be my bride.”
Without an ounce of humour, an ounce of leeway, his words settled over you like a chill you never thought you could experience.
“Wh-what’s that supposed to mean?” You asked, taking yet another step back. He had to be a trickster. He couldn’t really mean it. “I don’t know you.”
He glided towards you, following even as you continued to step back. You made it to the edge of the frost patch before he slipped behind you, grabbing your wrist. You span, hoping to dislodge his grip, but to your utmost horror, he was unfathomably stronger than his thin body looked.
“If you fight me, I shall make this difficult.” He warned, icy talons forming on the tips of his fingers. “You are my bride, ____, whether you like the fact, or not.”
“I can’t be.” You demanded, trying again to pull free. “You’ve got the wrong girl.”
He chuckled humourlessly.
“I would not stoop so low as to willingly put my hands on a mortal. I have studied you closely for weeks. There can be no other. You are my destined bride.”
He was insane. Bride was one thing. Destined bride was something else entirely.
“Let me go.” You demanded, using your other hand to try to pry him off. But his grip held fast. He watched your helpless struggle with clear amusement. He did not stop you. Your pathetic attempt was futile.
“Come.” He said, after tiring of your games. “I wasted enough time pursuing you. Now that I have you, the day of reckoning draws nearer.”
He floated back towards the centre of the frost patch, unfazed by your struggling. You tried to pull back, to kick your heels into the ground, but nothing stopped him. The agonisingly slow pace at which he moved only served to amp up your distress as he neared the blackened wood throne.
“Stop!” You wailed with a shriek, embedding your nails into the flesh of his hand. He stopped with a sudden jolt. You realised then that it was not the scratching, but the shriek that had faltered him. So with a deep breath, you shrieked again, hoping it would stun him.
But the only thing your cry served was to earn you a fierce slap across the cheek, and a glare that promised all hell should you do it again. The pain was excruciating. It burned and stung, and knocked your sight blind for a moment.
Skrael said nothing. With you knocked into a stupor, he pulled you to the throne and placed his hand upon the wood. In an instant, you, the throne, and even the frost vanished, leaving not a trace that they had ever existed.

CHAPTER FOUR
Chapter Three
Chapter five
The party at the inn was in full swing everyone was happy that Gunmar's son had been killed by a troll hunter and the bridge of the beheading had been hidden in the marketplace for this reason Vendel finally cheered up when he realized that nothing threatened the marketplace or the trolls.
Anoana stood in a corner of the tavern sipping tea the wound from a few days ago was still healing and her left arm was too bandaged but that didn't make the woman stop her little expeditions, since she knew that Bular wasn't lurking in the shadows somewhere she could move more freely around Arcadia she didn't necessarily remember fondly the encounter with the dark prince when she left the marketplace at night to collect healing herbs
She wanted to forget about it at all
She swallowed her saliva hard and her jaw clenched tighter as she felt the pain from the scar that remained after meeting Bular in the forest she never forgot the stress that flowed through her and the thought that she wouldn't make it out alive before it was too late out of nowhere Kanjigar appeared and saved her
To his unwillingness
Despite everything, the widow did not manage to thank him, however, the news of Bular's death and Kanjigar's avenging filled her with gratitude and pride for the troll hunter. The widow's quiet footsteps headed towards Vendel - So? - She asked tilting her head, the old man looked at her with a raised eyebrow waiting for her to continue what she wanted to say - So now you believe in our human troll hunter? - She asked, putting down her empty tea mug on the nearest table
Vendel sighed, but smiled - Maybe you were right, the boy will do great deeds - He admitted, however, still rocking to the rhythm of the music that was playing in the background, Anoana smiled proudly - I'm always right - She muttered earning a giggle from the elderly troll, The widow gently bowed to the old man as a gesture of respect turned on her heel and walked away in a direction only she knew in herself
Before the widow had time to leave the inn she was stopped by the voice of a young troll - Are you leaving already? - Asked Indun while sipping her drink closely watching the older troll - The party hasn't even started - Whined the younger troll as he approached the widow
Anoana only smiled - Parties are not my forte Indun - She reminded the younger troll by gently waving her hands in an unwilling manner, ever since she lost Angor her social life was closed only to her friendship with Vendel and Indun. Come the last few days she has opened up enough to try to befriend a human troll hunter, maybe it's also due to curiosity - All the more reason not to celebrate on this day - whispered the widow looking dully at the ground
- Tacos for everyone! - Cried Toby handing out Tacos to everyone as he said, but the widow shook her head refusing to accept human food her portion was given to Indun who without argument accepted an extra portion of Tacos which she clearly liked
Anoana, even though she was smiling tried to hide the pain in her eyes - You should be amused Anoana - Indun muttered while swallowing the Tacos that Domzalski distributed, the widow sent a murderous glance towards the younger troll - Don't look at me like that - She only shrugged her shoulders unmoved by the widow's gaze - It's been almost three centuries! You've continued to pick yourself up and you don't even sing like you used to,” the younger troll argued further, unconcerned with the widow's increasingly angry gaze
- Sing? - A voice behind Anoana suddenly spoke up, causing her to roll her eyes as she turned to look at the teenage troll hunter. The widow closed her eyes and ran her hand over her face with fatigue - Anoana used to sing when we celebrated something or during ritual times - Explained an excited Indun smiling pointing at the widow as if the troll hunter didn't know who the younger troll was talking about
- I used to sing is the correct answer,” the widow mocked, ‘I used to sing,’ she crossed her arms over her chest as a grimace spread across her stony face, Jim's blue eyes gently lit up as he smiled, ”No. I will not. I will not do it - growled Anoana wanting to head for the exit to end the conversation however she did not do so why? She had no idea but her legs refused to obey she felt as if her legs had become a real stone preventing her from moving in any direction to escape from this conversation
- You sang during the battles you won - Indun spoke up again wanting to persuade her mentor to return to the old habit she had abandoned so long ago - Bular is dead is a reason to celebrate - She argued further the younger troll causing Jim to be more and more interested Blinky sitting next to Jim was not too thrilled about persuading Indun to sing Anoana, likewise the interested party herself
- Isn't this a good reason to return to old habits? - Persuaded this time by Toby interjecting himself into the conversation, the widow felt every troll's gaze fixed on her stony skin. She shouldn't celebrate without him. She shouldn't sing without him. She shouldn't play the drums without him - Unless you're afraid - Indun wanted to joke with the widow but was met with the worst look the widow could give her
- No - She growled almost at the younger troll, the widow was famous for being calm and her nerves were made of steel it was hard to upset her however Indun never got to know Anoana's worst anger until today - I will not play, celebrate, sing. Even more so on this day,” Anoana hissed fending off the conversation by running for the exit to lose the curious gazes of the trolls
The chief of the market also watched the situation worried about the widow's mood wanted to intervene, but before Vendel could intervene or do anything else to calm the widow she had managed to leave - And to this one what happened? - Jim asked, confused by the widow's behavior.
Indun sighed heavily - Young Indun can't understand some things - Murmured Vendel shaking his head looking then at the younger troll looking guiltily at the ground and then at the door through which the widow left - Today is the day she let her husband out of the village - Blinky spoke up putting his hand on Jim's shoulder - And he never came back to her - He finished with a slight twist of his blue face as his orange nose wrinkled up
- It has been almost three centuries and she is still after him refusing every pastime she did with him - Explained a worried Indun - Despite persuasion she is still looking for him while refusing everything - She finished - Including my training - She mourned as the daggers hanging on Indun's back began to burn her as she thought how long it takes her to persuade the widow to do anything other than look for the ring or bury Angor
The younger troll shook her head and Vendel spoke up this time, sensing the atmosphere that was thickening with each passing moment - Those are topics for other days, right now we are celebrating the capture of the bridge of the beheading and the killing of Bular son of Gunmar by our troll hunter! - Exclaimed Vendel spreading his arms out to the sides the party moved on and every troll forgot about the drama that unfolded moments later
- And no one helped her look for her husband? - Asked Jim and his voice was quiet as he looked at his mentor, Blinkous only shook his head - When the war for the common lands, Gunmar attacked her village she tried to protect her village and her people with her husband - Explained Blinky slowly but after a moment he shook his head - That's a story for another time - He stated directly cutting himself off from the topic - And it's rather for Anoana to tell you - sighed gloomily the blue troll and his ears drooped

Y/n sighed as she submerged her body into the tub, the hot water now kissing her neck. The wrinkles on her skin gave away the hours she had spent on the soapy water. The bathroom had turned into a warm, quiet refuge from the babies running around in the Lake’s house. The screaming, the noisy toys, the spit, the dirty diapers. It all had become too much for the wizard to handle. The only moments of peace she could find were when she would put her head under the water. The world disappearing for an instant, the only noise she could hear was the calming lullaby of her blood pumping under the boiling water.
The tiles vibrated loud enough to make the babies napping in Jim’s room to scream in desperation. Y/n sat up, water spilling out of the tub as she prepared herself to throw the culprit across the room only to look down at Toby’s smiling face on her phone looking back at her. The bubbling anger died down to be taken over by another type of annoyance, the one where you are the only one to blame.
Toby had been texting and calling all day and Y/n had been avoiding his texts and calls all day. She didn’t have a good explanation, she just wanted to be left alone. Since Jim left she hasn’t been able to be alone, not even while peeing ever since the babies learnt to walk. Always working, hanging out or taking care of someone.
Y/n groaned, submerging herself into the water. The tub was the only place where she could be, but from her water tumb she heard someone knocking at the door. She emerged, her shoulders already falling forward.
“Y/n? Honey?” Barbara called.
“Yes, mom?”
“You should check your phone”
—
Y/n’s hand trembled as she opened the door to the bookstore. Toby said that the world may be ending yet again, but that wasn’t her biggest worry. Merlin had been awakened for more than a few days and Y/n didn’t say a word to Douxie. She blamed herself. Why did she always listen to her father?
She breathed in and out trying to leave her fears out on the street.
“And Steve Palchuk, Creepslayer!”
“I have no idea who you are” books flew around the once well kept bookstore, Merlin sorted them out before packing them in a flying chest “but we’re desperate. Thankfully, we have the brute”
Y/n stood behind Douxie and whispered in his ear:
“Oh, he is in a good mood”
Douxie smiled, turning back:
“Hello, darling”
“Hi” she smiled back.
Douxie grabbed her hand and for a moment, they ignored what was happening around them, both lost in eachother’s eyes, in eachother’s warmth. “Aah!” Steve’s yelp pulled Y/n out of the enchantment.
“Careful!” Y/n called out the older wizard and the chest flying behind him for their recklessness“ Are you okay?” She ran to the blonde teenager, using the hand that held Douxie to hold Steve’s head.
“Yes” he sniffed.
“Y/n! That’s great! Now we have the brute and a master wizard” Merlin didn’t turn to greet his daughter.
“Good to see you too” she said sarcastically “What’s going on?” She looked around looking for the messy black haired boy “Where’s Jim?”
“Yeah, where’s Claire?” Toby joined the chorus “I thought they were with you”
“Answers forthcoming. Make preparations. We’ve a journey ahead” Merlin kept packing “and don’t…”
“But, master…” Douxie interrupted.
“ ‘But, master’ me” Merlin finished.
“Are you sure you want to count on these children? They’re clearly not ready for this” Douxie asked.
“Excuse me, college dude, these children fought off a fifty foot extraterrestrial” Steve accidentally punched the head off the enchanted armor.
“Oh, that’s why you kept calling me?” Y/n turned to Toby, guilt creeping up her throat.
“Don’t worry. We…” Toby turned to help Steve fight off the enchanted armor “Dude, let’s go off his head”
“Douxie is right, father” Y/n quickly followed Merlin and Douxie away from the teenagers “They already fought enough things. Kids shouldn’t be fighting. They can’t keep doing this”
“Master, I’m ready for this” Douxie pitched himself full of confidence.
“Doubtful” Merlin said, focused on packing.
Y/n sighed:
“Just hear him out…”
“Silence!” Merlin commanded.
Y/n mouth stayed open, her smile falling into a frown, the words still weighing on her tongue. The familiar warmth of anger quickly ran through her body.
“I mean, silence” Merlin repeated softer “all of you” turning to the fighting teenagers “Can you not hear that?”
The group shook their heads. After the battle, Arcadia was destroyed, again, so the strange sounds could be anything, a car finally exploding or a building giving up. What wasn’t normal was the power going out. Y/n turned her head to the window, in the darkness the only thing she could see was the reflection of the chimney’s fire. She twisted her wrist revealing her staff.
“Something wicked this way comes” Merlin walked to the window followed by Douxie.
Something hit against the glass activating the barrier. Douxie took a step back covering his eyes.
“Shadow mephits?” Merlin turned to his apprentice “Hisirdoux, did you lead them here?”
“No, no!” Douxie waved his hands around, appalled that his master would think that.
Y/n pinched her nose. She felt like she had seen this scene many times before.
“I mean, I don’t think so?” Douxie looked out the window once more.
“Yes, we did” Archie walked up to confirm their mistake.
Douxie nervously chuckled under his master’s incredulous gaze.
“The barrier won’t hold for long” Merlin turned back “We must make egress! Tobias, take my things” with a movement of his arm, Toby went flying on top of the chest through the stairs.
Before Merlin could keep giving directions, the shadow memphits broke down the barrier, entering the bookstore.
“All of you, to the roof!” Merlin screamed, killing one of the creatures with his magic.
Y/n ran behind her friends to the roof only to find the roof as full shadow memphits as the bookstore.
“Why is the roof full of shadow memphits?” Y/n heard Al’s voice. The girl turned and saw the cat biting one of the creatures’ tales.
“Al!” Y/n ran, picking him up before the creatures could return the favor.
“That tasted awful” he shook his head.
“Stand back!” Merlin alerted.
“Everyone on” Before she could turn to look, Aaarrrgghh threw her onto a ship.
“I would like a warning next time” Al left Y/n’s arms.
“Maybe when we aren’t under attack” Y/n stood up pointing her staff to the shadow memphits Aaarrrgghh had on his back, destroying them in a ray of crimson so Steve and Toby could help the troll get into the ship.
As she lowered her staff she saw Douxie grabbing the baranda, distracted by something in the ground.
“Are you okay?” She walked up to him, softly grabbing his elbow.
He didn’t turn back, his mind absorbed by what the blue light of the barrier was reflecting.
“Doux…” Y/n called looking down, finally seeing what paralyzed Douxie: a knight surrounded by dark magic Y/n couldn’t understand.
The knight looked back at Douxie, his empty eyes focused only on the wizard. Douxie shivered when he returned the look. The knight appeared soulless, there seemed to be no emotion behind the visor.
The shadow memphits started to crawl into the mystery knight’s body like they were returning to its home making Y/n shiver. That wasn’t natural.
“Boy…” the dark voice echoed in the wizard's minds.
Y/n’s nails dig into Douxie’s bicep, both frozen in place looking back at the knight while his voice poisoned their insides with fear.
“Look out!” Merlin pulled them down by their jackets before the knight’s spears could reach them.
Y/n stood up, looking back at her father with a frown, not out of anger but out of confusion, she doesn’t remember the knight attacking them.
“Are you alright, love?” Douxie grabbed Y/n’s cheek with both hands and examined every inch of her face.
“Of course” she smiled, shaking the confusion away “Are you?” She grabbed one of his wrists, pulling his hand away to lay in his chest.
“I’m alright” he pulled her closer.
Y/n closed her eyes letting the movement of the ship and the familiar warmth of Douxie wash the adrenaline of the battle out of her sistem.
“What the heck is that?!” Steve screamed.
“Welcome, young squires to Camelot” Merlin announced.
Y/n quickly opened her eyes up, slightly pulling away from Douxie. In front of them, flying in the middle of the night sky stood the old castle that she once called home. A nostalgia ridden sigh escaped out of her lips. The castle was frozen in time, everything looked the same except a big green stone under it but that still didn’t change the strange feeling of coming back home after a long journey that invaded her.
“Camelot? As in ancient-old-people-times Camelot?” Toby screamed.
“Let the old people jokes begin” Y/n turned to Douxie, laughing.
The boy chuckled but his eyes were still glossy with the nostalgia of their childhood home, he was still lost in the emotion of coming back.
Y/n smiled, laying her head against his shoulder letting herself too be lost in what used to be.
“Sir Galahad, how look the skies?” Merlin screamed to the old man keeping watch in one of the towers.
“All quiet, my old friend!” The knight reported back.
Y/n turned to look at Sir Galahad waving back. She messily laughed, euphoria cursing through her veins when she saw he hadn’t changed one bit.
“Keep your eyes on the horizon” Merlin ordered before starting his parking maneuver.
“Oh, lord” Y/n gripped the baranda as she felt the instability in the velocity.
“I say, coming in a little hot, don’t you think?” Archie suggested as he grabbed himself from dear life.
“Rubbish!” Complained Merlin.
“He’s going to kill us all!” Al screamed as the green light slowed down the ship.
—
“Whoo hoo hoo hoo!” Steve screamed as he walked the entrance of the castle.
“Woah!” Toby echoed.
“It’s been nine hundred years since I was last here” Douxie said more to himself, turning around observing the unchanged castle.
“It hasn’t changed a bit” Y/n looked around searching for a small vase out of place but not finding it.
“Well except for the flying part” Douxie added.
“Nine hundred years?” Steve chuckled “Yeah right. You’re like 19?”
Y/n and Douxie shared a look, with a smile reminding all the adventures they had in the last century.
“Give or take a few centuries” Archie explained before flying away.
“Wait, don’t leave me here!” Al quickly followed.
“So, how many things can your cats turn into?” Steve asked, following the cats’ flying pattern with his head.
“That depends. How many things are there?” Douxie answered.
“Uh, cool floating castle ship, but what’s the grave danger you keep talking about? Toby ran after Merlin before he could disappear in the endless hallways.
“Ah, there you are” Merlin opened his arms, welcoming his old guests.
“Claire!” Toby screamed.
“Toby!” The girl ran to his friend’s arms.
Y/n ran to the other side of the room, waiting to see her brother only to find Claire and an injured Blinky. She kept her smile, hiding her disappointment in her back pocket as the four of them hugged.
“I’m glad you’re okay” Y/n hugged Claire.
“Whoa, hey, Steve’s here too! How about…How about some love for Steve?”
“Oh. Hi, Steve” Claire pulled away from Y/n, her face devoid of feelings.
“What happened? Where’s Jim?” Y/n frowned, she had waited enough time.
“Follow me” Merlin sighed, walking deeper into the castle.
Y/n turned to Claire trying to look for clues into her face but the devastated look on the young wizard was as terrifying as the broken sigh in her father’s mouth.
She walked through the hallways of the castle with her heart in her palms as she has done many times before. How is she going to look at her mother in the eyes now?
“Jim” Toby ran to the table where Jim laid, kneeling by his side.
Y/n walked slowly, she couldn’t believe what her eyes were seeing: her little brother laying inside a crystal with a spear in his heart.
“What happened?” Y/n asked her voice sharp as the bottom of her staff.
“We were ambushed. Some ancient, dark warrior. An unstoppable knight clad in green who struck down Master Jim” Blinky recounted.
But Y/n didn’t care, the hot tears brewing in her heart didn’t care. All she could hear was: they didn’t do enough.
“Master, is that the same knight we saw at the bookstore?” Douxie's voice appeared through the cloud of anger.
“One and the same. That onyx shard is working its way towards his heart. I placed the boy in stasis, stalling its progress…for now”
‘I didn’t see it’ Y/n mind replays that moment again and again. How can she blame them when she probably couldn’t stop him either?
The anger softens and migrates to her neck, tying itself around her neck pulling tight becoming sadness, guilt.
“If I had my shadow staff, I could’ve saved him” Claire cried.
Y/n wishes she could say that that’s not true but she’s afraid that everyone can see what’s hanging around her neck.
“Who is this green knight? How do I get my hands on him?” Toby’s anger starts to spill out.
“I do not know” Merlin confesses “The green knight said but one name, which chilled me to the bone: Morgana”
Y/n frowned. This definitely wasn’t one of her tricks. At least, it didn’t look like one.
“I hate that lady” Toby said, the memories of the Eternal Night coming back to him “Wait” he looked back at the older wizard “I thought we kicked her bee witch butt to the Shadow Realm”
“Which he appeared not to know” Merlin frowned, still puzzled by the encounter with the mysterious knight.
“So this is not Morgana’s work” Y/n question, certain in her heart of the answer.
Merlin shook his head:
“I cannot confirm his alliances but he wore the emblem of Camelot”
Douxie turned to Y/n, eyes full of confusion and worry.
“Come with me, quickly” Merlin turned, walking away, leading the group across a bridge to his studio “I fear the answer lies in the past. A dark menace is coming, one even I cannot face alone”
The room, as the rest of the castle, was the same as it was a century ago. Y/n could feel the ghost of her long skirt hitting her ankles and the knot in her throat everytime she would enter her father's workspace.
“You are all now soldiers in a war started centuries ago for the world of magic” Merlin opened a small white box, from inside it a blue sphere of light appeared revealing images of the past “Once, the realms of Magic and Man clashed in endless bloodshed” Merlin twirled the circle showing them an image of the late King “King Arthur sought to wipe out magic that ravaged the lands in his was against Gunmar. I brought what few spellcasters I could under my protection to spare them from the sword…”
“Including myself” Explained Douxie.
“And Morgana le Fay” added Y/n when Morgana’s image appeared in the magic circle.
“She was the finest student I ever taught” Merlin observed the memory of young Morgana, his eyes full of proudness, he thought she was destined for great things “…until she tried to kill me” he closed his eyes “Thankfully, in my all-seeing wisdom, I created a secret weapon” he touch the sphere “the Trollhunter amulet. The war came to a standstill and I imprisoned Morgana at the Battle of Killahead Bridge. This Green Knight that assailed us was clearly born of dark magic but I have no memory of him nor what connection he could have to Morgana”
Y/n looked back at the image of his sister, Guinevere’s words stitched to her heart “you can love the person you knew” and that’s what she’s been doing every day, carrying daisies to an imaginary grave, remembering the woman who would free the trolls from the traps, the woman who would sneak her extra dessert but she knew what she saw, what she felt. That Knight is not Morgana’s work
“I really don’t think he had a connection…” Y/n wasn’t able to finish.
“You never do, Y/n. You are not impartial” Merlin cut her off.
“I know what I saw. That magic is not Morgana’s!” Y/n hit the table.
Merlin opened his mouth to protest but the warning bells cut him off.
Before they could turn to see what danger was looking for them, the castle was hit, shaking the entire structure.
“What’s happening?” Claire screamed in fear.
“Have you never been under attack before?” Merlin helped Y/n to get up from the ground “To the battlements!”
Y/n ran, her staff in hand ready to confront whatever was trying to destroy Camelot like she had done many times before. What she didn’t expect was the amount of power their enemy seemed to have. ‘The Arcane Order’ her father called it. She considered herself an experienced wizard and she had only heard that name one time when she was very young and her father made it clear she wasn’t supposed to ask anymore questions.
“Everyone get to safety now!” Merlin ordered as soon as he saw the wizards emerge from the gigantic ship that was trying to board the castle.
The wizard with ice powers attacked first, quickly overpowering Merlin, throwing him into the ground and his staff off the castle.
“I got it” Archie flew behind.
Y/n was impressed. She didn’t have another word for it. She had never seen such ability, especially in wizards that seemed as young as her
Soon enough, cannons were fired making it impossible for anyone to stand.
“We must flee” Merlin ordered.
“I’m on it” Douxie ran to steer the ship away from The Arcane Order.
The castle shook once more, Merlin and Y/n turned, seeing their new obstacle: a bridge made of ice joining the ships.
“They’re boarding us!” Merlin screamed.
“I’m on it” Y/n jumped into the edge of the tower “Go get the staff”
“Steer us clear at my command!” Merlin jumped to another tower.
Y/n pointed her staff to the thick ice that joined the ships, a hot lightning melting the middle of the bridge. She frowned, she felt sweat dripping from her forehead, melting a simple block of a was being harder than it should be. She pulled back, falling backwards into the cold stone of the castle. While the ice wizard built multiple bridges, their ally was bombing the castle shaking the old structure.
Y/n stood back up, nodded her head, her eyes focused on this time, severing the connection between the ships. She tightened the grip on her staff and swung, a big ball of red lightning cut all the communications the ship had.
“Yeah!” Y/n screamed, jumping around alone celebrating her victory. Her short victory.
The wind changed. The wizard heard the crackling of the ice murmuring behind her, she slowly turned around, afraid to confirm her suspicion: all the broken bridges were made new again and were crawling with shadow memphits.
“You’ve got to be kidding me” Y/n climbed to Douxie’s post.
“Archie, find the staff or we are all dead meat!” Douxie screamed fighting off shadow memphits off the steers.
“What do you people think I’m doing?” Archie screamed back from the sky.
The castle shook once more, making Y/n’ stomach turn.
“I officially hate flying” she joked, eyes lost in the horizon.
“We’ll travel by boat. Old style” Douxie nodded.
“Flying castles suck!” Steve screamed
Y/n turned, they were joined by Steve wearing a helmet and Claire.
“Hisirdoux, now!” Merlin screamed.
“Please don’t blow us up” Douxie prayed as he set up the time map and steered the ship “Please don’t blow us up!”
“We don’t have enough power for the jump!” Archie flew close.
“Trust in Merlin” Screamed Douxie.
Archie was wrong. The time rift was opened but the Arcane Order wasn’t about to let them leave so easily. Y/n didn’t see them hit the castle, she just knew she was lucky enough to grab Douxie's hand before falling to the night sky, until she saw his brother fall through the time rift, then, she didn’t feel so lucky.
She looked up at Douxie knowing what she had to do but before she could apologize he nodded. He knew well what Y/n wanted to do and he supported it. They let go of each other's hands at the same time.
Y/n fell as she heard Claire and Steve’s terrified screams but she couldn’t be scared, not when her eyes were focused on Douxie.

Y/n: Guys, it's been an honor fighting with you. Some of us might not make it, but there is one place we'll all see each other again...
Y/n: and that place is Denny's.
Jim: Which Denny's?
Y/n: I don't know, we'll figure it out later.
Steve: It can't be the one on 35th street, I'm banned from there.
Y/n: Then I'll see you in hell.

(gender neutral please?) polymorph reader that's insecure about what their true form is (since they can take the form of any human, they probably have some doubts about what form is their form y'know what I mean?) being comforted by ether the Janus order (Stricklander, Nomura, Otto, etc) or the wizards, or the creepslayerz. cuz I feel like there's already a lot of them that have the trollhunter squad be the ones comforting.
Going with Creepslayerz cause we need more content alxnslxmslxklszllsllslssldlddl
Learning you were a Creep was kind of life changing to be honest. Both of them weren't sure what to do at first. Eli and Steve felt a little betrayed but the thing is there are good and bad creeps and if you've been helping them for so long and using your powers for good than you must be a good creep and as a good creep It's there job to protect you. Plus your powers are awesome! You can change to look like anyone??? Even them!!!
After that you all become a lot closer as there's no secrets to hide any more. Eli asks a lot of questions about being a changeling and your abilities while Steve makes random observations that lead to giggling fits. Creep or not your a CreepSlayer and your stuck with them.
The CreepSlayerz are so so so so supportive of you. You decide to change the color of your hair or you shorten/ grow it out? Awesome. You have a bigger body shape one day and a thinner one the next so the outfit you like in your closet fits correctly or you want to look a bit thinner/fuller? Cool. You change your eye color? Your nose shape? Your mouth? They don't care and 1000% support you in what makes you comfortable. As long as your doing it for you and not others they love to see how you'll shift next.
Eli and Steve have quit the body dysmorphia problems as well and will do their best to help you work through any insecurities you have. They know being a polymorphus changeling must have been hard since their far and few inbetween and you used to be ordered to change into others all the time. The Order was a bad place with bad creeps who used you to do bad things. They think your so strong and brave and they'll make sure no one missuses your powers ever again.
Eli is a scrawny kid with glasses who's been teased all his life for his looks. He's never been asked out by anyone and is more of a loner at school but not by choice. If you ever need to talk about anything he's more than willing too. He gets it more than you know and will always be there for you.
Steve may be strong and handsome in the conventional way but he still feels he should look better and be more. He's compared to models on magazines and has had girls dump him for not looking a certain way. Everyone around him is constantly pushing him to be faster, bigger, better, stronger. It's a lot of pressure and sometimes being an athlete is really hard. He's not the best at expresing his emotions but if he finds out someone's been making you uncomfortable he'll make sure they leave you alone.
The boys love having fashion shows with you. Anything to hype you up and make you feel comfortable in your own skin. Sometimes it can be stressful being able to change at any time so to have people who love you in any form is very reassuring.
Watch Steve beatbox to hype you up while Eli tries to rap something nice about you. It's stupid and silly but it always makes you laugh and that's their goal. As your friend they want to make sure you only see what they see and they see an awesome person who's amazing inside and outside. Anyone who says any different is a buttsnack.
Eli has a ton of selfies of you doing Creepslayer stuff with him and Steve. During your bad days he'll show you his favorite pictures. There's an unconventional type of beauty in all of them no matter what form you take all three of you smiling and laughing is what makes Eli think the picture is beautiful and he'll remind you that your looks don't define you, your actions do.
It can be hard and some days are worse than others but they always have your back. After all Creepz for life!

Hisirdoux Casperan “Douxie” x Fem Reader
Ch1. Earth
How many years has it been since I left Earth? Hala, all this time travelling has my perception of time messed up. Am I a billion years old or am I two million years old? If only Galvin didn’t recruit me when I was on my way to Balubia, I heard that it was like a party everyday there.
“Hey (Y/n)!” Galvin catches my attention as he walks towards me.
“Well speaking of the Devil, what’s up?” I fixed my posture as he made his way towards me.
“Oh my, is the deity herself trying to hide her horrible posture?” He jests as he stands beside me and leans on the railing and looks out the window, chuckling to himself.
“Ha ha, very funny Galvin. And please I’m far from a deity, at least I don’t go parading myself everywhere telling people to bow before me.” I chuckled at my own joke.
“The only person who bowed to me was Zea because she knows who I am.” I sighed, I looked out of the window and leaned into the railing.
“If only people still didn’t associate me with the Arcane Order, all they’ve ever done so far last time I saw them was burn down a village because one guy catched a gnome and tortured the poor thing to death. Why burn down the whole village when you can just burn the man who committed the crime.” I looked down at my hands as I tightened my grip on the railing.
“We - well they, since I left the group. They promised to protect the balance between the mortal and magic but here they are, causing harm to innocent mortals because there’s a few bad apples out there.” I vent my frustration. Galvin took my hand in his, I looked up to see him smiling at me sadly. I loosened my grip on the railing and dropped my arms to my side.
“I’m sorry, I just-” I apologise but he cuts me off .
“There’s no need to apologize for venting out your problems.” Galvin says as he rubs the back of my hand with his thumb.
“Thanks.” I smiled at him, and brought my attention back to the window.
“Go on, I know you got a lot more going through your mind.”
“To be honest, I really want to look into the future just to see how to stop all this madness that they’ve been causing. But I know looking into the future - especially if I’m in it, is dangerous and the possibilities of outcomes are endless! Ugh stupid space time rules!” I groaned out. He lets go of my hand and
“Well technically if you did look into the future it wouldn’t go against any space time rules. But I still wouldn’t suggest looking into the future since trying to change the outcome of what you see will drive you insane to the point of no return. This is why we exist.” He boasts with a stupid grin on his face.
“Mhm.” I hummed out, bringing my focus back to the window. Earth slowly inching closer and closer.
“Is the reason why you’re going back home is to stop your siblings or is it something else?” He asks as he too looks out of the window to look at Earth.
“Well other than my siblings being major buttholes. I just want to go back home and live among the humans...you know a simple life.” I sigh out.
“Blegh, you want to live with those barbarians?” Galvin gags.
“They’re not that bad, but yes I want to live with the barbarians as you put it.” I jest. There was a pause between us.
“You know you could’ve just teleported your way back to Earth right?” Galvin brings up to cut the silence.
“I know, but I wanted to spend time with my best friend one last time.” I spoke softly and grabbed his hand.
“For me it’ll probably be years till I get to see you again, but for you it might just take months since keeping track of time is useless in the agency.” I told him.
“Aww, does my best friend care for me?” He patronizes me, and starts laughing.
“Shut up.” I chuckled then punched his shoulder lightly.
“Hey guys.” Our laughter was cut off by Zea.
“Oh hey Zea” we say at the same time.
“(Y/n), you should get ready since we’re forty-five minutes away from landing.” Zea says as she looks at her watch.
“Cool, so where are we landing? And when? You guys never told me.” I ask them.
“Huh, we mentioned this in the meeting last week… Oh you were sleeping during that meeting” Zea groans out.
“We my friend.” Galvin wrapped his arm around my shoulder and brought me closer to him and raised his arm up.
“Are dropping you off at Camelot!” He says while gliding his arm to the other side.
“Early 6th century Camelot.” Zea says cooly and grabs Galvin away from me.
“Hey, you shouldn’t treat your boss so harshly.” Galvin jests.
“Mhm and you shouldn't be trying to take me out on a date during work hours.” Zea retorts back, then flicks his forehead and let’s go of him.
“Especially when I’m on a mission.” Zea then walks towards me and grabs my arm to drag me to our dorm.
“We need to get going, she needs to get her stuff together before we arrive on Earth.” Zea says out loud for Galvin to hear as we get further away from where we were just talking.
“So you and Galvin huh?” I asked her with a smirk.
“Wipe that grin off your face, you look like a mad man.” Zea spits out jokingly as she continues to drag me back to our dorm.

Fire Keeper: Chapter 18
Douxie x fem reader
Masterlist in Bio!
Series Summary: You are Jim’s older sister who is taking a break from college and has moved back home to Arcadia. You end up joining Jim and his friends on their adventures.
Chapter 18 summary: You take the trip to the past!
A/n: So it’s a really long chapter 6,336 words, I don’t know whether to say sorry or your welcome. Also I have no clue how shops were in twelfth century Englad so...yeah. Anyways, enjoy!
“Sorry, this is a lot to process! Pets can talk? The world is ending? Again?” Toby asked as you and Douxie met up with him at the book shop.
“Not the best timing, I know, but we need your help all the same,” Douxie said.
Toby looked at Douxie confusedly. “Douxie? Y/n?”
“Toby!” You hugged him tightly.
“Wai- hold up! I thought you worked at the cafe, or were, like, a model or something,” Steve questioned Douxie.
Douxie chuckled. “There's a lot about me you don't know.”
“Whoa!” Toby gasped as Douxie used his cuff to show off some magic. “You’re like Y/n.”
“What?” Steve asked incredulously.
“Come on, then. The answers to all your questions are within.” Douxie gestured for them to go inside.
Steve scoffed. “Yeah, right. In a bookstore?”
You all walked in to see Merlin levitating some of his books. “Ah! There's flying books!” Toby exclaimed.
“Whoa!” Steve gasped.
“Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! So cool! So cool! So cool! Ooh, what's that?” Toby fanboyed, admiring the cool displays of Magic.
Merlin scowled at Toby when he picked up something. “Put that down! Thank the ether you're here! We haven't a moment to waste.”
“Whoa! Crusty, creepy dude!” Steve exclaimed.
Merlin ignored Steve. “Though, I had hoped for more, Hisirdoux.”
“I tried. I couldn't find the changelings or the aliens. I'm pretty sure most left the planet,” Douxie explained.
Toby waved at Merlin. “Merlin, it's me-- Toby Domzalski! You know, War Hammer, Guardian of Arcadia, Geology Club president.”
Merlin sighed. “No one could forget you, chatty.”
“And Steve Palchuk, Creepslayer!” Steve announced.
“I have no idea who you are,” Merlin dismissed. “But we're desperate. Thankfully, we have the brute.”
“Yum!” Aaarrrgghh grunted, admiring Archie.
Archie swatted at Aaarrrgghh. “I'm not anybody's lunch. Got it?”
“Wait, where's Jimbo and Claire? I thought they were with you,” Toby asked.
You opened your mouth to answer, but Merlin beat you to it. “Answers forthcoming. Make preparations. We've a journey ahead. And don't-”
“-but, Master-”
“-'but, Master' me,” Merlin finished.
Douxie sighed. “But... are you sure you want to count on these children? They're clearly not ready for this.”
Steve scoffed. “Excuse me, college dude, these children fought off a 50-foot extraterrestrial!” Steve hit the helmet off of one of the knights. You were surprised to see that the knight reacted.
“Dude, let go of its head!” Toby ordered, trying to help Steve.
“It's got my head, too, man!” Steve cried.
“Just put it back!” Toby yelled and Douxie sighed, exasperated.
“Master, I'm ready for this,” Douxie promised.
“Doubtful,” Merlin said.
“I've spent years preparing, centuries-“ Douxie started.
Merlin cut him off. “Silence!”
Douxie frowned and you gently patted his back with your good hand.
Merlin sighed. “I mean, silence, all of you. Can you not hear that? Something wicked this way comes.”
You went to the window with Douxie to investigate when you heard a shadow mephit growl. It pounced on the window, only to be thrown back by a shield.
“Shadow mephits? Hisirdoux, did you lead them here?” Merlin asked.
“No, no! I mean, I don't think so?” Douxie chuckled nervously.
“Yes, we did,” Archie answered.
“He found us. The barrier won't hold for long. We must make egress! Tobias, take my things!” Merlin ordered, levitating Toby and up to the roof. “All of you, to the roof!”
You quickly ran up to the roof, fully aware that you would need to protect Toby and Steve if any climbed the building.
You used your good hand to blast a few of the mephits off the roof before Douxie, Merlin, and Archie arrived.
“Stand back!” Merlin ordered, throwing the ship out onto the roof. Glass shattered and the green mist exploded out and then condensed.
“Whoa! Ship just got real!” Steve marveled.
“Everyone on!” Aaarrrgghh called, throwing Steve and Toby on. You levitated on, blasting mephits as you flew.
Eventually you were all on the ship and Aaarrrgghh was trying to get on while the shadow mephits attacked. You and Douxie blasted a few, finally helping Aaarrrgghh up. Steve fell onto Merlin and the ship stopped moving.
You looked over the edge to see the Green Knight standing in the street. “Boy...” he rasped. Suddenly he sent the shards at all of you and you shoved Douxie to the ground.
“Look out!” Merlin grunted, finally getting the ship to move away.
You slipped a bit at the sudden speed, almost falling. Thankfully Douxie caught you, but he grabbed you by your hurt arm. You hissed in pain.
“Oh! Y/n, I’m so sorry,” he apologized.
You brushed it off despite the tears in your eyes, “It’s alright.”
“No, here, let me heal it.” He looked so eager to help so you slowly extended your arm to him. He held it gently as he began to perform a healing spell. Your arm was surrounded in a blue glow as Douxie healed it. You immediately felt the pain fade away. It felt like aloe had just been put on a bad sunburn.
Unfortunately Douxie pulled away. “Alright, good as new.”
You gave a small smile. “Thanks.”
He nodded and opened his mouth to say something else when Merlin slowed the ship down.
“Awesome sauce!” Toby exclaimed as he and Steve whooped. You grinned at them, it was nice to see them happy.
“This is so cool!” Toby called as you watched Arcadia grow smaller.
“What the heck is that?” Steve asked as Camelot came into view.
“Welcome, young squires, to Camelot,” Merlin said.
“Camelot? As in anceint-old-people-times Camelot?” Toby asked.
“Excuse me, I have a question. How is this castle flying right now?” Steve asked.
“The Heart of Avalon. Its magic keeps Camelot aloft, powered by time itself,” Merlin explained.
“You get used to it,” you called to Steve.
Merlin flew the ship past one of the towers and he waved at an old knight standing there. “Sir Galahad, how look the skies?”
“All quiet, my old friend!” Galahad replied.
“Keep your eyes on the horizon,” Merlin called, turning the ship to enter the castle.
You screamed a little as Merlin sped up. “I say, coming in a little hot, don't you think?” Archie asked.
“Rubbish!” Merlin yelled. The ship entered the castle skipping on the floor and you were glad you held on.
Douxie helped you off and you honestly didn’t want him to let go. You were just so tired, you needed the extra support. Thankfully, Douxie didn’t let go of your hand and you were grateful he was there with you.
“Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!” Steve yelled.
Toby gasped, admiring the grand castle. “Whoa!”
“It's been 900 years since I was last here. Hasn't changed a bit. Except for the flying part,” Douxie said.
Steve laughed. “'Nine hundred years'? Yeah, right. You're like, what? Like, 19?”
“Give or take a few centuries,” Archie said, jumping off Douxie’s shoulder and turning into a dragon.
“So, how many things can your cat turn into?” Steve asked.
Douxie smiled. “That depends. How many things are there?”
“Uh, cool, floating castle ship, but what's the grave danger you keep talking about?” Toby asked, trying to get to the point.
Right after he said that Claire, Blinky and Mao walked in. “Ah, there you are,” Merlin said.
“Claire!” Toby exclaimed.
Claire rushed to hug him. “Toby!”
“Arghumont!” Blinky called, running to hug his own friend.
“Blinky!” Aaarrrgghh called back. Aaarrrgghh pulled all of them into a group hug.
Claire gasped in pain. “Not so tight.”
“Oh, sorry,” Aaarrrgghh apologized, letting go.
“Whoa, hey, Steve's here, too! How 'bout, how 'bout some love for Steve?”
“Oh. Hi, Steve,” Claire said, unimpressed.
“What happened to you guys? Wait, where's Jim?” Toby asked, finallly noticing that your brother was missing. You felt a tear slip.
“This way,” Claire said, gesturing back the way they came.
“Jim... What happened to him?” Toby asked, observing the gem Jim was encased in.
“We were ambushed. Some ancient, dark warrior. An unstoppable knight clad in green who struck down Master Jim,” Blinky explained.
Douxie turned to Merlin. “Master, is that the same knight we saw at the bookstore?”
Merlin nodded. “One and the same. That onyx shard is working its way towards his heart. I placed the boy in stasis, stalling its progress... for now.”
“If I had my Shadow Staff, I could've saved him,” CLaire said.
You let go of Douxie’s hand to hug her. “Don’t blame yourself, I should have done something, but I didn’t.”
Toby glared. “Who is this Green Knight? How do I get my hands on him?”
“I do not know. The Green Knight said but one name, which chilled me to the bone, Morgana.” Merlin explained.
“Oh, I hate that lady. Wait, I thought we kicked her bewitched butt to the Shadow Realm?” Toby asked and you could see the poor kid shaking with anger.
“Which he appeared not to know, but he bore the emblem of Camelot. Come with me, quickly. I fear the answer lies in the past. A dark menace is coming, one even I cannot face alone.” Merlin gestured for all of you to follow him and you took hold of Douxie’s hand again.
Once you were all. Inside the new room Merlin spoke again. “You are all now soldiers in a war started centuries ago for the world of magic. Once, the realms of Magic and Man clashed in endless bloodshed. King Arthur sought to wipe out magic that ravaged the lands in his war against Gunmar. I brought what few spellcasters I could under my protection to spare them from the sword.”
“Including myself. Oh, and Morgana le Fay,” Douxie added.
“She was the finest student I ever taught... until she tried to kill me.” Merlin looked down. “Thankfully, in my all-seeing wisdom, I created a secret weapon-- the Trollhunter Amulet. The war came to a standstill and I imprisoned Morgana at the Battle of Killahead Bridge. This Green Knight that assailed us was clearly born of dark magicks but I have no memory of him, nor what connection he could have to Morgana. We know not what he is nor why he pursues us. Though, his presence is a dire omen of things to come.”
Right as Merlin finished his speech a bell began ringin frantically. You all looked away from what Merlin was showing you and gasped. Suddenly the castle was struck by something and you fell to the ground.
“What's happening?” Claire asked.
“Have you never been under attack before? To the battlements!” Merlin ordered and you immediately complied.
You got outside and saw another giant floating castle. It was all dark and creepy.
Archie gasped. “Oh, no! I think we have something of a problem.”
“Oh, fuzz buckets,” Douxie cursed.
“No... the Arcane Order... they found us!” Merlin said and for the first time ever, you heard pure fear in his voice. “Everyone, get to safety, now!”
You moved to put Mao inside and you heard Merlin shout a spell. “Fulgur praeca!”
The castle shook again and you fell. It suddenly got a lot colder so you sped up. The castle shook and you ran into Nari.
“I need to go help. Can you take Mao?” You asked.
“Of course.” You placed your familiar in her hands and took off running back to Merlin and Douxie.
You arrived outside to see a bridge of ice spanning the gap between the two castles.
“They're boarding us! We must break free! Steer us clear at my command!” Merlin ordered and you summoned your fire spell.
“I'm on it!” Douxie called back.
“All of a sudden, flying castles aren't so cool!” Steve screamed.
“These foes' powers are beyond us!” Merlin grunted as a blast of fire came at the two of you. You sent your own fireball back at the black castle.
“Merlin!” You heard Nari yell.
“No! Nari!” Merlin protested, running towards her as you continued to blast fire at your enemies.
“Archie, find the staff or we are all dead meat!” You heard Douxie yell.
“What do you people think I'm doing?” Archie retorted.
“Archie, I'm running out of time, here!” Merlin yelled, trying to cut the ice bridge with his sword while you did your best to melt it.
Finally Archie called, “Got it!”
You and Merlin jumped onto a tower that rose past you.
“Surrender, Merlin,” some creepy thing ordered.crof
“Never!” Merlin growled.
“Merlin! Merlin! Get everyone to safety!” Galahad called.
“No, Galahad! What are you doing?!” Merlin protested.
Merlin and you watched sadly as Galahad used his tower and his life to cut through the ice bridges. You and Merlin ran back to the castle as the bridge you were on was destroyed.
“Farewell, my old friend,” Merlin whispered. “Hisirdoux, now!”
You watched as a green portal opened up to show a completely different forest beneath you. You didn’t have much time to admire it though, you had to keep fighting.
Ice rained around you as you tried to send more blasts of magical fire at the black castle. Suddenly one of those ice shards hit you, sending you over the edge of the castle.
From there you pretty much just straight up tumbled into the portal. You screamed as you fell through the portal. You did your best to slow down your fall, but the landing still hurt.
You slowly got up from the ground and looked up at the portal in the sky. That was when the panic set in, the portal back to your time was slowly closing.
You were about to do something about it when you heard voices. They didn’t sound familiar so you hid behind a tree. Fear coursed through your veins as you waited for whatever was making the noise to come into view.
Men and women dressed in shiny metal armor eventually appeared and you crouched down. You didn't know where you were, or when for that matter. You were lost and alone.
Suddenly you heard screams from above you and you looked up. You watched as Douxie’s magic lit up the bright sky, slowing his descent. Unfortunately he crashed to the ground ahead of the group of knights.
This was bad, you needed to warn them about the knights. You did your best to run through the trees, but by the time you arrived to see Steve, Claire, Douxie and Jim, the knights were already there.
“Advance!” A knight called and suddenly a ton of knights were surrounding your friends. You got ready to attack, but you held back for a second. You would wait for Douxie to make the first move.
“Got them,” a knight replied as Steve screamed.
Douxie sighed. “It means... we are lost in time.”
One knight got off of his horse. “What manner of sorcery is this?” He asked. Weirdly enough, he looked like an older version of Steve.
“Sir Lancelot, um-“ Douxie started and you relaxed a little, Douxie recognized this guy.
“He's so handsome,” you heard Steve whisper.
“I- We-“ Douxie stuttered.
Lancelot seemed to realize something. “Wait! Aren't you Merlin's errand boy?”
“Apprentice,” Douxie corrected.
“He's like an angel-man. Whoa!” Steve whispered. Suddenly you heard a large crack and the green gem that was holding your brother broke.
Lancelot gasped. “The devil-?”
Jim groaned. “What? How did I-“
Claire rushed to hug him. “Jim! Are you okay?”
“Troll! Troll! To arms!” Lancelot called and you got ready to defend your brother and friends.
“Wait! Chill out, lads!” Douxie called in an attempt to calm everyone down.
Lancelot didn’t seem to understand. “Chill? Out?”
Douxie sighed. “Take a breath, all right? He's one of the good ones.”
“There are no good ones,” Lancelot growled. “Monsters are forbidden in Arthur's lands. You'll hang before the king for your insolence.”
You were unable to hear anymore as your friends were arrested. You watched as Jim was unfairly imprisoned in a wooden cage and the rest of your friends were herded away.
You carefully followed them from a distance, but when they got to Camelot you realized that you wouldn’t be able to just waltz in through the front gates with them.
You sighed in frustration. You didn’t understand why everything had to be so difficult. You just wanted to relax for a little while.
But, you had work to do, so you snuck into Camelot. You made your way to an area without many guards and used your magic to get over the wall.
By the time you got in, your friends were nowhere to be seen. You did your best to inconspicuously search the city, but as time passed you didn’t have any luck. With every second you grew more and more frustrated. You were in an unfamiliar place, your brother was injured and possibly dying, and you couldn’t find your friends.
You weren’t going to cry though, you had to stay strong. Sinking to the ground just to cry wouldn’t solve your problems.
You took a deep breath and began to think. You needed a plan, a plan would help you calm down.
First, you needed to blend in more. You had been getting many odd looks from those you passed. You didn’t blame the people. You were covered in dirt from your fall and you had dried blood all over your face from your fight with the shadow mephits back in your time.
Eventually you found a well and you took a clean looking rag from a woman. Using it you did your best to tidy up. Once that was done, you went to go get something better to wear.
You felt bad shoplifting, but you needed to fit in and if you thought about it, you hadn’t a doubt in your mind that your brother and friends had been taken to the castle.
You were obviously in the wealthier part of Camelot, so it wasn’t hard finding a dress shop. If you were gonna be stuck in ancient Camelot, you might as well have fun and dress fancy. You could always find something simpler later.
You stood up straight and did your best to make it look as if you had a purpose. Thankfully no one paid you any attention as you walked in, but you didn’t expect that to last long. While you were cleaner, you weren’t dressed for the time.
You would need a distraction and thankfully magic would give you one. You mice in your head did the hand movements. In seconds you heard squeals come from the back of the shop. You hoped that would keep whoever was here busy for a while so you went and looked for a dress.
Eventually you found a dress that you liked. It was an orangish peach color made of silk with silver embroidered swirls on the bodice. You also grabbed a sweater made of tulle, the same color as the dress. You finished off the look with a silver belt.
It was remarkably easy to take with a little help from your magic and you were able to get away without ringing any alarms or whatever they had in Camelot.
You used your magic to put the dress on and began to make your way towards the castle.
The second step you had come up with was finding a way into the castle. You felt you would be able to get in with the way you looked. Your hair was an absolute mess, but with a little magic it would be easy to hide.
You were able to find a side entrance and you were able to get in. It gave you confidence that your plan was working so well. Now that you were in the castle, it was time for step three.
Step three was the part where you would look for your friends auras, but that quickly became complicated. There were a lot of auras buzzing about the castle and you couldn’t identify exactly where your friends were.
So you would have to modify your plan. You’d wander the castle until you were able to find them. You’d be able to identify their auras if you were closer.
You started by making your way through the first floor. You’d make your way through the castle one level at a time.
While this was supposed to help eliminate any possible frustration, by the time you made it to the third floor tears were pooling in your eyes. You couldn’t find their auras and it was difficult to be sensing so many at once.
You were crossing a bridge, wishing you had stolen a handkerchief for your tears when you came across Douxie’s aura.
You were immediately relieved. Though you were still worried about your other friends and Jim, you had at least found Douxie.
Oddly, you heard Merlin scolding him. “Hisirdoux, do you have feet for hands? All the Slorr juice? You know how long it takes to milk one of those?”
“Sorry, sir. I was just trying to save time,” Douxie said and you got confused. Why was Douxie talking to Merlin like that? Maybe he was trying to cover up that he wasn’t from this time period?
“Your cutting corners has only cost me time,” Merlin said, continuing to scold Douxie. “It's hard enough creating Arthur's new weapon without your mucking about. I need you in the workshop, and you're milking the Slorr.”
As Merlin walked away you ran over to Douxie and hugged him. “Douxie! I’m so glad you’re okay!”
“Um?” Douxie mumbled and you realized that he wasn’t hugging you back.
“What’s wrong?” You asked, pulling away from him.
“I don’t mean any offense, but who are you?” With that you moved away from him, finally noticing that this wasn’t your Douxie.
You chuckled nervously. “I’m so sorry! Um, would you believe that I, uh, that I have a friend named Douxie that looks exactly like you. I mean what a coincidence. You know I’m, um, looking for him right now and I’m gonna go continue to look for him, seeing as you aren’t my Douxie. Haha, Bye.”
You were about to turn and leave when you sensed another aura. This other aura just so happened to also be like Douxie’s.
You turned back, just in time to see a Douxie who looked like the one you knew grab the other Douxie.
“Hey! Aah!” Archie protested and Douxie held his hands up in defense.
“Um, hey, me,” your Douxie said, chuckling nervously.
Past Douxie yelped. “Doppelgänger! You-you're me. I'm me!”
“No need to panic,” your Douxie soothed.
You stepped over to them. “Now, this is the Douxie I was looking for,” you explained.
“Well, how-- how... Wait, this can only mean one thing-” Past Douxie started.
“Time travel paradox!” Both Douxies yelled and you chuckled.
Archie sighed. “Double Douxies? This is a disaster!”
Both Douxies glared at him. “Give me a break, Arch!” They said in unison. “Oh, wow. This is wild!”
“Let's focus on the here and now. Where having two of us will be-“ Douxie started.
“-will be a logistical nightmare,” Archie cut in.
“I agree, uh, so the easiest solution...” Past Douxie trailed off.
“Is for one of us to go away till I return to my time,” Douxie informed.
Past Douxie nodded. “Great idea! But which one of us-?”
Your Douxie cut him off. “Interminus nocti sluumberso!”
Past Douxie suddenly fell asleep and your Douxie put him in a closet.
“I know this looks bad,” Douxie told you and Archie, “but I swear I've got this under control.”
“If that were true, things in the future have really changed,” Archie said.
Douxie laughed sarcastically. “Just don't go blabbing to Merlin, okay? I need to stay incognito. Aah!”
The cabinet burst open and past Douxie fell on Douxie.
“I’ve got it,” you promised, already levitating him back into the closet.
Archie chuckled. “This should be fun to watch.”
Suddenly you heard Merlin yell, “Hisirdoux, what is taking so long?”
“Just cleaning up another mess,” Douxie called back.
Douxie sighed and put his hair up into a bun. “Swore I'd never do this again,” he muttered, and you laughed.
“You look fine,” you soothed, taking his arm.
“So, I see you’ve got yourself a dress,” Douxie said. “I was looking for you, but I couldn’t find you. I was worried something bad had happened.
“I’m fine,” you promised when you felt Douxie’s aura spark with guilt.
“Good, I’m glad.”
“How’s Jim and everyone?” You asked.
“Oh, uh, Jim’s been arrested, but right now everyone else is fine. Steve is being trained by Lancelot and Claire is now Morgana’s handmaiden.”
“Morgana!” You hissed, worry for Claire suddenly overwhelming you.
“Don’t worry,” Douxie soothed. “She hasn’t gone bad yet.”
You hesitated. “What’s the plan then?”
“I’m gonna take you to where I used to live and then we can all meet up later to figure everything out. I’m gonna try and steal the time map to get us out of here.”
“Alright, but if you need any help don’t hesitate to ask.”
“I won’t,” Douxie said, leading you into a room. “Here you are, home sweet home.”
You looked around the room, it was off a decent size, but it was awfully drafty. “Nice place,” you said, taking a seat on a window bench.
“Thanks.” Douxie smiled. “Be careful if you go outside. You look like royalty, but people will question where you’re from.”
“Aw, thanks. You be careful out there too,” you called. “Will do.” He gave a little wave as he closed the door.
You gazed around the room, trying to think of something to do when you yawned. Suddenly you were very aware of how tired you were. If you thought about it you hadn’t slept in over twenty four hours.
You lied down on the bench and closed your eyes, easily drifting off into much needed sleep.
~~~~
You immediately sat up when you heard the door open. You looked around, confused at the sudden noise. Douxie was standing there frozen in the middle of the room.
“Sorry, Y/n. I didn’t mean to wake you,” he apologized.
You yawned. “It’s fine.” You looked over and saw Steve sitting in a chair. “How long have you been here?”
“Not long, I didn’t want to wake you.”
You nodded, grateful, but soon your kind smile turned into one of disgust. “What is that smell?” You asked.
“I, uh- I forgot how much I hate milking the Slorr,” Douxie muttered gagging at the smell he had trailed in. You mimicked him, plugging your nose.
Archie recoiled away from Douxie. “Ugh! Please!”
You looked over to Steve. “How was your guy’s days?”
Steve groaned. “I think Lancelot broke my everything.”
“And I still don't have the Time Map. One wrong move, and we will screw up history without even knowing it,” Douxie grumbled.
You were about to try and sooth the both of them when Claire burst in through the door. “We have to change history! Arthur's had enough. The trolls are gonna die at sunrise!”
“Oh, blimey Balroths! How are we supposed to stop this and stay inconspicuous?” Douxie asked and you could see the panic in his eyes. You felt bad about all the stress that was on him.
Claire sighed. “It wouldn't be a problem if I just had my Shadow Staff. I know you said to lay low, but we can't let Jim die.”
“No we can’t,” you asserted. “Douxie, I’m sorry, but we will have to change history.”
“Yes. Let's see what this future Douxie is capable of!” Archie cheered.
Douxie nodded. “You're right, sod the rules. It's time for a dungeon break.”
~~~~
The four of you snuck down to the dungeon and you watched from behind a post as Lancelot and Galahad laughed.
“No way!” Galahad grinned. The two of them were focused on their conversation so you decided to make a run for it.
“Ah! Oy! Young gentleman of Palchukia, join us in our nocturnal libations,” Lancelot called.
“We are looking for the Holy Grail!” Galahad took a drink. “Oh, well, it's not in that one either!”
Steve chuckled and began to saunter over to the knights. “Steve, no!” You whisper-shouted at him.
“Where do you think you're going, buddy boy?” Archie asked.
“Dude, I'm keeping the guards busy,” he whispered, “while having a righteous time! Ha! Yeah-eah! Drinking with knights! I'm so stoked for my first brew...uh, today.”
“I don’t condone this.” You glared at Steve before going after Douxie and Claire.
Archie sighed. “This is going to end badly. Ohh, I can’t wait.”
“This is going to end badly,” you muttered. The four of you continued to run, eventually coming across the section of the dungeon Jim was in.
“Jim! We're breaking you out,” Claire announced.
“Your stay in Terror Tower is over, mate,” Douxie said, conjuring magic knives for himself and Claire. Douxie cut open Jim’s cell.
“And presto, one liberated troll,” Archie announced.
“Hahaha! Take that, death! I elude you once again-“ a troll shouted as Jim freed her.
You hugged Jim tightly. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, no need to worry.”
“A big sister always worries,” you said before going to free more trolls.
As you freed the last one you heard Steve shouting/rapping. “My lord Arthur's in the building. Watch out, y'all, he's here to do some creep-killing. Get out of here.”
“Now, now, everyone just stay calm,” Douxie said in an attempt to sooth the trolls. Unfortunately his attempt completely failed.
All of the newly liberated trolls panicked and began to stampede out of the dungeon.
You were pushed up against the wall as the trolls left. You looked over to Douxie. “What now?”
“We do our best to help them.” You all ran out of the dungeon and into Camelot. When you got outside you say that the sky was fading from a light purple to a blue. You heard the metal armor of guards clanking after you.
“Is this part of your plan?” Archie asked.
“I'm improvising!” Douxie yelled, fiddling with his cuff.
“Quick, through the alleys! They can't catch all of us!” Jim’s friend called. You followed Douxie as Claire helped Jim.
You turned down a path, but stopped when you heard more clanking.
You looked to Jim one last time. “Stay safe!” You called.
“I will!” He promised.
“Did you see where they went?” A man you assumed was King Arthur asked.
“Quick! In here! This way, sir! Don't worry, sire, I'll freeze them on the spot,” Douxie offered, he messed with his cuff.
“Then do it! This way, men! Charge!” Arthur ordered. Douxie spun his cuff as Arthur and his men went to run after Jim, but at the last moment he cast a spell, opening two blue portals. Arthur and his men charged into them, only to appear out the other one. “What trickery is this now?”
Douxie sighed. Oh, fuzz buckets! I must have cast an Infinite Hallway by accident. You know how frustrating magic is. Uh, let me-let me just find the right spell.”
“Wizard, remove this enchantment or I'll remove your head!” Arthur threatened. “You! Girl! What are you doing?”
“Uh, me?” You asked.
“Yes, you!”
“Well, I’m-I’m terrified,” you cried. “This kind young man has been helping me.” You put the back of your hand to your forehead and pretended to look feint.
You leaned on Douxie and whispered. “Their auras are gone, you can let the king go now.”
Douxie did as you asked and Arthur and his men ran off. “Come on, we can’t let them get to the gate,” Douxie said, grabbing your hand and pulling you to a nearby house.
“Up we go,” you mumbled, using your magic to help you climb the house. You, Douxie, and Archie made it to the top of the house just as Arthur was about to reach the gates. Thankfully Douxie slammed them down just in time.
“Men, after them! Get this open at once!” Arthur commanded. You watched as Jim and his friend tried to run away, but they stopped when the sun hit the bridge.
The sun slowly spread, forcing the trolls to retreat closer to the gate Douxie was struggling to keep closed. You added your magic to his, and the gate glowed both blue and orange.
Unable to get the gate open, the knights put their swords and spears through the opening, trying to stab the poor trolls. You and Douxie gasped for breath as it became a struggle to keep the gate shut. Soon it became too much and you had to let go.
Suddenly, the day began to get darker and shadows spread across the bridge, paving a path for the trolls to get to the forest. You turned around, looking for the aura that was casting the incredible display of dark magic only to find Claire. You pulled Douxie towards her.
The two of you jumped from roof to roof till you managed to get to the bridge she was on. You could see the strain she was under and you raced over to her. Douxie caught her just as she collapsed.
“By the seven rings, how did you manage that?” He asked and Claire groaned. “Whoa, whoa, whoa! Easy!”
“It’s gonna be okay, Claire. Jim and the trolls are safe.” You soothed.
“Are you sure?” She asked.
“I’ll check.” You closed your eyes and focused on Jim’s aura. You felt a shift and opened your eyes. Your projection was standing behind a tree.
You looked around, trying to get the gist of what was happening when you saw Gunmar and Bular standing in front of Jim. “Little king, these Wild Woods are my domain. I command the souls of all under its shade, and I decide who lives or dies!”
You saw shuffling and looked over to see one of the gumm-gumms kill a knight. You gasped at the horrific sight and Jim looked over to you. His friend helped him over to you.
“Y/n!” He whispered.
“Stay safe Jim. I’ll send more messages later okay?”
“Okay, I love you.”
“I love you too.” You gave a little wave to Jim as he left and you continued to watch the rest of the encounter play out.
“You can only push us so far, human,” Gunmar growled.
“This isn't over!” Arthur yelled, retreating.
“War is coming!” Gunmar retorted and you stopped projecting before he could see you.
You felt the shift and you were once again standing with Claire, Douxie and Archie. “He’s gonna be okay. All we need to do is figure out a way to get home.”
Douxie nodded. “Let’s go. Arthur is going to be furious when he gets back.
Claire took a step away from the two of you. “I want to go thank Morgana. I’ll meet up with you.” She went off and Douxie offered you his arm.
~~~~
“I was right, Arthur is furious. He's locked down the castle,” Douxie said, pacing.
“Luckily, he thinks you're so incompetent, you can't be a suspect,” Archie pointed out.
“At least we got Jim and the prisoners away safe,” Claire added optimistically.
“Yeah,” you agreed. “It’s not all a loss.”
Douxie turned to walk out the door. “Where are you going?” Archie and you asked in unison.
“To get that TIme Map. Hopefully with Arthur on the hunt, I've got a chance to finally snatch that thing,” Douxie answered and you grabbed his arm.
“I’m coming too.” Douxie nodded and you and Archie followed him to Merlin’s tower. You unlocked the door and the three of you snuck over to the vault. Douxie opened in only to find an old gnome skeleton in it. Douxie closed it again and tried to open it, only to find an old horn. He continued trying to no avail.
The both of you sighed when he opened it to a bird’s nest full of eggs.
“Looking for this?” The three of you jumped and turned to see Merlin holding the time map. “Or perhaps this?”
Merlin took the sleeping Past Douxie out of a cabinet and you noticed he had given him a pillow.
“Oh, fuzz buckets!” Douxie cursed.
“Have you any idea what you've done?” Merlin asked. “I knew my apprentice was an ignoramus, but traveling through time? Time!”
“Hey now!” You yelled, defending Douxie. Merlin ignored you.
“I think we handled ourselves just fine, all things considered. And, technically, it was your idea,” Douxie explained.
Merlin pointed his finger in Douxie’s face. “Well, then, you must have botched it up! My planning is flawless.”
Past Douxie spoke up, “For the record, Master, I had nothing to do with this. He did, which is he, and... ugh! Time travel, so confusing!”
Merlin went over to the time map and winced as it flashed red. “Aah! The timelines are in complete disarray!”
“Look, I can fix this, I swear!” Douxie promised.
Merlin shook his head. “Ah-ah, your meddling has already wreaked enough havoc on history.”
“Then surely we can use the Time Map to change things back, and then it'll all be as it was,” Archie suggested and you nodded along to his plan.
“It doesn't work that way. The map only offers glimpses of possible futures. There are no detailed instructions,” Merlin countered.
“Oh, come on, it's not that bad,” Douxie said optimistically. He tried to grab the time map, but Merlin swatted at his hand.
The timeline flashed to show Arthur's death and all of you gasped. “Aah! By my beard! Not that bad, eh?” Merlin asked.
“Oh, fuzz buckets,” Past Douxie cursed.
“Fuzz buckets,” your Douxie agreed.
Merlin walked over to the door. “Your little dungeon break must have changed fate. Now, unless I stop it, the king will die!”
So, tada, thanks for reading all of that. Honestly there’s a very high possibility that the next chapter will be even longer. He-he. The next chapter is gonna be really great and I’m so excited to write it. Anyways, I hope that y’all have a fantastically wonderful weekend.
“Beware! You, you! Are in grave danger!”
“Archie?”
You were very surprised to see the familiar and very glad that whatever made you want to hurt Douxie didn’t apply to him.
“(Y/N)?”
“Heyyy, Arch,”
“(Y/N), where have you been? Douxie’s been looking for you everywhere!”
“That’s what I’m worried about,”
“Wait, (Y/N), you know the talking cat?” Toby exclaimed, frantically between you and the cat-dragon.
“He’s a familiar, actually,”
“Familiar?”
“Nuh-uh, not familiar, I would remember if I’d met a talking cat,”
“No, familiar, wizard-assistant,”
“Assistant! That’s very offensive, I am a wizard associate, thank you very much,”
“Yeah, okay, semantics, what do you need Arch?”
“I need you to come with me, or the world as you know it will come to end,”
You sighed, rubbing your temples. Had you and your gang of stray children, trolls, and Akiridions not saved the planet enough for one year? What sin did you commit to cause these unending apocalypses to rain down on you?
“Are you threatening me pussy cat?”
You put a hand on Steve’s shoulder, a little worried that he would actually try to fight Archie. It wouldn’t be too out of character for him.
“No, I’m warning you,” Archie responded, calm as ever, “Put simply, the world as you know it is about to end,”
“What else is new,” you muttered, following the cat-dragon down the street, “C’mon guys, let’s see what wants to destroy the universe now,”
Toby, Steve and Arrrgh kept up the conversation while you followed Archie in silence, silently praying that wherever the familiar led you, his wizard would be far away.
Your prayers went unanswered.
“Sorry, this is a lot to take in. Pets can talk? The world is ending? Again?”
“Not the best timing, I know, but we need your help all the same,”
“Douxie?”
“Casperan,”
“(Y/N)?”
“Wait, (Y/N), you know this guy too!?”
You froze in place at Steve’s question, looking briefly into Douxie’s eyes. If it hadn’t been physically painful to avoid killing him whenever you were in the same place, it still would’ve been emotionally painful. How could you look into the eyes of the one person you could always count on, the man you loved, when he had left you for dead? How could you look into his eyes knowing you had been sent to kill him? Centuries had passed, and yet you still felt like the traitor you’d always been.
“We’re acquaintances,” you said, stepping back in a desperate attempt to quell the bloodlust rising within you, trying to escape the rage that wasn’t yours.
You avoided looking into Douxie’s eyes again, but the hurt on his face was clear to you, even if you weren’t staring directly at it.
“Wait, wait, hold up, I thought you worked at the cafe or were a model or something-?”
Douxie laughed a little, trying to shake off your icy demeanour, “There’s a lot about me you don’t know,”
The cuff on his wrist glowed blue, the light forming an orb in the palm of his hand. The teenagers in front of you were wide-eyed, amazed by Douxie’s use of magic. You just shook your head and kept trying not to kill your oldest friend.
He pressed the orb to the door of the bookshop, unlocking it, “Come on then, the answers to all your questions are within,”
“Sure they are,” you muttered, hanging back as the boys filed into the store. You took a second to look at Arcadia’s Arcane bookstore, one of the few places in town you’d never actually been to. When Douxie started working there, you decided that avoiding the shop was a key part of not committing murder. The same went for the cafe, and anywhere else the wizard went.
“(Y/N)?” Speak of the devil, it was the wizard. The one whose life you were trying to save, “C’mon, I need you for this, too,”
“I-” you looked down, desperately searching for an excuse. End of the world or not, saving Douxie from yourself was more important. Maybe you should’ve just left Arcadia.
“(Y/N),” his voice was soft, just as you remembered it. The way he looked at you made you want to cry. There was so much love in his eyes. Left for dead or not, you couldn’t deny he did care about you, “Please,”
He reached out, his hand gently clasping around your wrist. No matter how much you longed for his touch, you tore your hand from his grip as if you’d been burned.
“Fine, Douxie, I’ll join you on whatever hell-quest this is, but you have to promise that you’ll stay away from me,”
He was shocked, clearly taken aback by what you said, “That’s… that’s fine, but why?”
It killed you to hear how heartbroken he sounded, “I’ll explain later, let’s just go,”
The hurt in your voice hit him hard. The way you’d jerked your hand back left him feeling as if he’d done something wrong. Whatever it was, Douxie promised himself that he would figure it out and apologize to you and make it better. He didn’t need you to forgive him, he just wanted you to smile again. He wanted to see the light in your eyes, the one that he’d been falling in love with since at least the fifteen-hundreds, even if he wasn’t the cause of it. Ever since you’d disappeared, you’d been distant. The few chances he got to look at you, you’d seemed haunted. He wanted to help you so bad, but he couldn’t do anything unless you let him.
Silently, the two of you walked through the door.
Inside the shop, various objects floated about, surrounded by a green hue. You recognized that magic. It had cursed you years ago and had cursed Jim more recently. Merlin.
“Put that down! Thank the ether you’re here! We haven’t a moment to waste,”
“Woah, crusty creepy dude,”
You laughed at that, trying to keep yourself quiet and failing. You wouldn’t say it to Merlin’s face, but those were your thoughts almost exactly. The old wizard ignored both you and Steve.
“I had hoped for more Hisirdoux,”
“Jeez, thanks Merlin,”
“Silence, traitor,”
You rolled your eyes into the back of your head. Would no one let you live that down?
As if Douxie sensed your discomfort, the young wizard took the attention off of you, “Look, I tried, I couldn’t find the changelings or the aliens. I’m pretty sure most left the planet,”
“Merlin! It’s me! Toby Domzalski! Y’know, War Hammer, Guardian of Arcadia, Geology Club president,”
“No one could forget you chatty,”
“Oh my god, Merlin, what have I told you about talking to kids!”
Since the old man had awoken from his nine-century long sleep, you’d tried to convince him to do two things. Call Douxie, because the young wizard deserved to know what was going on and you couldn’t tell him yourself, and be nicer to the children for god’s sake.
“And Steve Palchuk! Creepslayer!”
“I have no idea who you are, but we’re desperate. Thankfully, we have the brute,”
“Because, y’know, the traitor is of no use to you,” you muttered, scooping up Archie, trying to interrupt a dispute between him and Arrrgh. Fortunately, the familiar did not struggle to get away from you despite your cold attitude towards his wizard. That, at the very least, brought you some relief.
“Wait, where’s Jimbo and Claire? I thought they were with you?”
“Yeah, good question Merlin, where’ are the kids you’re in charge of?”
“Answers forthcoming. Make preparations, we’ve a journey ahead. And don’t-”
“But Master!”
“‘But Master,’ me,”
“Very typical,” you sighed, releasing Archie from your hold. Your attention was brought back to Douxie.
“But… are you sure you want to count on these children? They’re clearly not ready for this,”
He was partially right. Your kids had seen battle before and could probably take whatever was thrown at them, but that didn’t mean they should have to. They deserved a break.
Steve scoffed, “Excuse me, college dude, these children fought off a fifty-foot extraterrestrial,” he made a good point despite it being an obvious brag, and it would have held some weight, had he not promptly gotten into a scuffle with an enchanted set of armour.
You watched, cringing a bit, before turning your attention to Merlin and Douxie’s conversation.
“I’ve spent years preparing, centuries-!” All true, once again. You could say what you wanted about Hisirdoux Casperan, but you couldn’t deny he was more than capable when it came to magic. You'd seen his magic improve over the centuries, and you knew for a fact that he could kick some ass.
“Silence!” Merlin cut Douxie off, reminding you ever so slightly of your Camelot days. You wanted, desperately, to comfort your friend, but being in the same room was hard enough. If you touched him, he would die.
“I mean, silence, all of you,” Merlin corrected himself, “Can you not hear that?”
You could hear nothing, but you stopped to listen anyway. Beside you, Toby drew his hammer, readying for a battle.
You still couldn’t hear it.
“Something wicked this way comes,”
You squeezed your eyes shut, tired and stressed, but willing to fight. You drew your sword, and in front of you, blue magic circled around Douxie’s wrist. Your body was telling you to murder him right now, show him no mercy, go for the throat, but you held back. Now was not the time to kill your friends.
Merlin and Douxie walked past you to look out the window. You joined them, squinting to try and make out what lurked in the murky darkness, only to jump back when a shadow mephit flung itself at the glass in front of you. It bounced off a shield of blue, tumbling off into the street to join its brothers and sisters, all of which now came into view.
“Shadow mephits? Traitor, did you lead them here?”
“You do know I have a name, right?”
“No, no, it wasn’t (Y/N), it was me, or at least I think it was,”
“Yes, it was us,” Archie said, jumping onto a shelf next to Douxie. You would’ve laughed at the familiar’s candor, had the shadow mephits been less interested in breaking in.
Merlin just shook his head, “He found us. The barrier won’t hold for long. We must make egress! Tobias, take my things!”
With a wave of Merlin’s hand, a trunk, surrounded by the green glow of his magic, slammed into Toby and flew him up to the roof, screaming.
“For god’s sake, Merlin,” he couldn’t hear you through the attack, but it was the sentiment that counted.
But then again nothing really mattered. A mephit broke through the barrier, only to face a bolt of magic from Merlin, “All of you to the roof!”
You grabbed Steve and Arrrgh and started up the stairs. Douxie, of course, didn’t listen to his master. You couldn’t hear the argument that took place between them as you guided your companions up the stairs, but you could see what was going on below you. You had to admit, Douxie blasting shadow mephits while standing his ground in an argument was pretty damn impressive (impressive here meaning hot.)
Merlin moved past you, blasting some mephits as he went. You took initiative and sent some magic their way as well, knocking a few away from Archie. Douxie grabbed his familiar with magic, saving the cat-dragon from a very mephit-y death.
“C’mon Douxie,” you said, waiting for him by the door, crying out slightly when the nerd rammed his hand into a candle, feeling the burn on your own hand. Your wizard took a brief moment to look at you, then the candle before lighting the bookstore on fire.
To be fair, it was a magic fire, and it wasn’t damaging anything but the mephits. You were actually quite impressed by that, too, and you were very charmed by his laughter once he saw that his plan worked. Merlin, however, didn’t care.
“Fire!?”
“Yeah, magic fire!”
“In a bookstore!!?”
“Butmephitsarevulnerabletofire-”
“Move it!”
You grabbed Archie, jumping out the door to see your friends fighting off even more shadow mephits.
“Got any more magic fire, Doux?”
“‘M afraid I’m fresh out,”
“Ah. Fuck,”
You swung your sword into the nearest mephit, “I guess we’ll have to do this the old fashioned way then,” You buried the blade in another one of the creatures before placing Archie on the ground and blocking a blow from yet another mephit.
“Stand back!” Merlin exclaimed, throwing a crystal ball that released a small ship from inside of it. The blast from the ship blew back a few of the mephits long enough for everyone to have a two-second gawk at the little boat.
“Woah, ship just got real!”
“Yeah-huh,”
“Everyone on!” Arrrgh growled, tossing all of you on board.
You frantically scuttled away from Douxie, double-checking your blade to be sure it didn’t have his blood on it. It didn’t. He was safe. From you, at least.
You stuck to one side of the ship, watching your friends fight off more shadow mephits on the other side. You sincerely hoped they’d never have to fight you like that.
You heard someone say, “Boy,” from below, a voice that was eerily familiar to one you had heard before, not too long ago. You were about to rise and check to see if your suspicions were correct, but before you had the chance, green shards flew through the air, just like-
Just like the one that had gone through you.
You didn’t have time to ponder things as Merlin’s ship flew off through the night sky. You just sat back and shut your eyes, trying to keep the internal demons at bay.
You did your best to erase the memory from your mind. To forget a green knight who, on the orders of his masters, sent a shard of black magic right through you. You should have died, but instead, the projectile broke through your skin and disintegrated, taking over your body, turning you into an assassin against your will. Your captors had called it a trial, an experiment. Sneaking a look at one of the shards beside you, you realized that you had been a test run. That shard hadn’t disintegrated.
You kept your eyes shut.
A few minutes later, the memories faded. You could relax, finally. The sound of the boys screaming with joy rang through the air. Flying was fun, you had to admit that. You opened your eyes, first looking at Steve, Arrrgh, and Toby, then at Douxie.
He was beautiful, staring off into the distance as if there was nothing in the world to worry about. As if the assassin sent to kill him wasn’t at his side right now. You bit the inside of your cheek to keep any emotion from showing. You couldn’t let them know anything was wrong, if you did they’d never trust you again. But what you felt was overwhelming.
You were stressed, not knowing what was to come in the future, nor what your captors would do to you if they knew your target was still alive. You were hurt, because over the ten years that you’d been tortured your best friend hadn’t searched for you, even though he had before. Was he tired of you? Did he just not care anymore? You were scared of the answer. And worst of all, you were in love. But you refused to admit it.
“What the heck is that?”
You turned your attention to the horizon before you, “That’s not-”
“Welcome, young squires, to Camelot,”
“Camelot!? Like, as in ancient-old-people-times Camelot!?”
“Thanks, Toby,” you snarked under your breath. You heard a snicker from beside you. You made him laugh. That made you feel a lot better. You even smiled when you thought Douxie wasn’t looking. Maybe things wouldn’t be so bad.
He was looking. His fondness for seeing his old home dulled in comparison to his fondness for you. The small smile on your lips was enough to power his world for decades, no, centuries. You still seemed troubled, but if you smiled now, there was still hope that he could help you make things better.
“Excuse me, I have a question. How is this castle flying right now?”
“The Heart of Avalon. Its magic keeps Camelot aloft, powered by time itself,”
You took a moment to lean over the side of the ship, examining the large green stone. It was nice. Reminded you of Merlin’s magic. The ship took a sudden turn upwards, and Merlin called out a greeting to someone.
“Holy crap, Gallahad’s still alive?”
“Seems that way,”
“I guess committing treason means you miss the weekly newsletter,”
You missed Douxie’s frown at your angsty humour. He wanted you to know that no matter what Merlin called you, you were no longer a traitor. You wished that could be true.
The ship took another sharp turn, heading for the entrance.
“I say, coming in a little hot, don’t you think?”
“Rubbish!”
“I knew Merlin would be the death of me, but not like this,”
You held on tight as the ship landed, but it wasn’t enough. The impact launched you into Douxie, who managed to catch you, only for you to jump out of his arms, even though you would’ve liked to stay there.
“Sorry,” you whispered, once again straining to avoid murder.
If Merlin didn’t try to execute you for past treasons, he would definitely kill you for murdering his favourite apprentice. Of course, that was only one of several reasons to avoid committing homicide, but it was the most prevalent right now as Merlin caught your eye.
Toby, Steve and Douxie exchanged banter, while you spoke in lower tones with your once master.
“So, you still haven’t gotten over your petty rivalry, have you?
“It’s not that, Master, I-”
“So we’re back to Master, are we?”
“It’s only fitting seeing that we’re back in Camelot,”
“If that’s the case, I should have you killed for treason,”
You weren’t sure if that was a joke or not, but your response was one hundred percent serious, “Please do,”
Merlin turned to you, fairly concerned. He was not expecting that retort, to say the least. But you weren’t looking at him. You were looking back at his apprentice, something he couldn’t name trapped in your gaze.
“Uh, cool floating castle ship,” Toby interrupted both your and Merlin’s train of thought, “But what’s the grave danger you keep talking about?”
Merlin didn’t answer, instead, he looked ahead of him, “Ah, there you are,”
“Claire!”
“Toby!”
“Aarghaumont!”
“Blinky!”
You grinned as your friends hugged each other. It was good for them to be back together again.
“Whoa, hey, Steve’s here, too! How ‘bout- how ‘bout some love for Steve?”
As much as you admired Steve’s growth as a person, you had to cringe, just a little.
“Oh, hi Steve,” Claire said, unimpressed before her eyes turned to you, “(Y/N)! Hi!”
“Hey, Claire, Blink,” you gave a small wave, too emotionally and physically exhausted for anything else at this point.
“What happened to you guys?” Toby asked, frantically taking in Claire and Blinky’s worse for wear appearances, “Wait, where’s Jim?”
The look on Claire’s face told you everything you needed to know.
One room over, Jim was encased in a green crystal… thing.
You knelt to the ground next to Jim’s crystal and immediately began your assessment. The trollhunter’s face, arms and legs seemed to be fine, but a shard of something had embedded itself in his chest. Unfortunately, you recognized it. It was the same thing your captors used to force you into becoming an assassin. It looked like the shard had gotten about halfway in before stopping, completely intact, above Jim’s heart. You didn’t need to be a doctor to know that that wasn’t a good thing, but you were a doctor, and you needed to get a closer look before you could do anything. Before you could get any closer, your attention went back to the conversation taking place between everyone else in the room.
“What happened to him?”
“We were ambushed. Some ancient, dark warrior. An unstoppable knight clad in green,”
Your blood ran cold. You were right. Same knight, same shard, and eventually, same outcome. You didn’t want to think about that. You refused to consider the implications.
“Master, is that the same knight we saw at the bookstore?”
“One and the same,”
You swore under your breath. This could not be happening. You never wanted to deal with your captors ever again, but here they were, knocking at your door and trying to kill more of your friends.
“That onyx shard is working its way towards his heart. I placed the boy in stasis, stalling its progress… for now,”
“But that’s not a permanent solution, is it?” you muttered, deciding to distract yourself from thoughts of the green knight by trying to find a way to fix this problem.
If you removed the shard, it might leave a gaping hole in Jim’s chest, one that would need more than a few stitches, that is if you could pull the shard out at all. You weren’t super sure whether it would disintegrate or not, and if it did, that might kick start whatever possession your captors had planned for Jim.
If you couldn’t remove the shard, stasis was the best idea until you figured out how to remove it. Maybe it could be burnt away? But that might kick start disintegration. No, that would just burn the boy, and impalement was bad enough. You racked your brain, struggling to find a solution. Around you, your friends were talking, but you barely listened. You needed to focus, otherwise, you’d explode from nerves alone.
“If I had my shadow staff, I could have saved him,”
“Who is this Green Knight? How do I get my hands on him?”
“I do not know. The Green Knight said but one name, which chilled me to the bone. Morgana,”
The name of the Eldritch queen caught your attention. You stood up, eyes now focused on Merlin.
“Oh, I hate that lady. But wait, I thought we kicked her bewitched butt to the shadow realm?”
“Which he appeared not to know, but he bore the emblem of Camelot,”
Great. Just great, the last thing you needed was Camelot zombies, and yet, here they were! Merlin took a few steps away from Jim before turning and heading out the door, and into the night. The gang followed though you stayed behind, taking one last look at Jim. You’d failed him. You were supposed to be a doctor, and a protector, but here he was, nearly dead because you left him alone with Merlin for more than two seconds.
“Come with me, quickly. I fear the answer lies in the past,”
You turned away from Jim, following behind the others, avoiding Douxie and staying silent.
“A dark menace is coming, one even I cannot face alone,” The old wizard led you into another tower, stopping at a table in the center and opening up a time map, “You are all now soldiers in a war started centuries ago for the world of magic,”
You scoffed slightly, “Yeah, what else is new,”
Merlin ignored you, “Once, the realms of Magic and Man clashed in endless bloodshed. King Arthur sought to wipe out magic that ravaged the lands in his war against Gunmar,” blue light from the time map displayed images of Arthur and Gunmar as the old wizard spoke.
You turned your eyes to the floor at the sight of your old master. It hadn’t been long since you’d seen the old trolls face, but it still brought a sense of anxiety with it. The Gumm-Gumm king had trained you to be afraid, to be a fighter. He’d pretty much ruined your childhood, but there was no time for angst now. Merlin was still expositing.
“I brought what few spellcasters I could under my protection, to spare them from the sword,”
“Including myself, (Y/N)-”
“That’s technically false,”
“Oh, and Morgana le Fay,”
“She was the finest student I ever taught… until she tried to kill me. Thankfully, in my all-seeing wisdom,” you rolled your eyes again. Merlin kept talking, “I created a secret weapon- the Trollhunter amulet. The war came to a standstill and I imprisoned Morgana at the Battle of Killahead Bridge,”
“Only for her to break out nine hundred years later,”
“Shush,” Merlin finally acknowledged you, “This Green Knight that assailed us was clearly born of dark magicks, but I have no memory of him nor what connection he could have to Morgana,”
You bit your lip, remembering the shard used to curse you. You had a very vague idea of the connection between the Eldritch queen and the Green Knight.
“We know not what he is, nor why he pursues us, though his presence is a dire omen of things to come,”
You also had a decent idea of why the knight was pursuing you. Or, at least pursuing Merlin. If this green knight was, in fact, the same that served your captors, it was likely he was doing their bidding just as you were. With the knight, they’d targeted Merlin directly, or, at the very least his trollhunter. In your case, you’d been sent to kill one of the very few people Merlin actually cared about. Either way, they were coming for Merlin, or for what he had.
Back in your prison, you had two main captors. You’d only briefly met the third, the one they’d lost. From what you’d gathered, the other two assumed she ran to Merlin, and judging by size alone, it was very possible that she was hiding somewhere here, in Camelot.
It was either that, or they were coming after you specifically for not murdering Douxie fast enough, but that didn’t seem likely.
The sound of a bell ringing shook you from your thoughts.
Something hit the side of the castle, knocking everyone to the floor.
“What’s happening?”
“Have you never been under attack before? To the battlements!”
You followed Merlin and the squad outside to see your worst nightmare come to life.
Your once-prison, the ship of your captors, the Arcane Order, rose into view.
“Oh. Fuck,” your eyes widened as you took in the skull-shaped ship for the second time this century.
“Everyone, get to safety! Now!”
Merlin didn’t have to ask you twice. You grabbed whoever was nearest to you and scrambled to find the safest place possible. It was kind of difficult while Camelot shook from each attack, but you managed.
You shoved Toby, Claire and Steve into a small sheltered balcony of sorts, raising your hands and casting a shield around the four of you. Debris bounced off of the magic you’d projected. Merlin was yelling something, but you kept your focus, straining to stay in place as ice hit the ship, forming bridges between the Arcane Order and Camelot. It didn’t work very well. The shield came down around you, but there was no time to set it up again.
The kids ran towards the edge of the ship, their weapons drawn. You followed behind.
“All of a sudden, flying castles aren’t so cool!”
“You said it, Steve,”
The ship shook some more as fire and ice attacked it. You watched, wide-eyed, as the demi-gods who had tortured you for ten years sent blast after blast at what had once been your home.
“We‘ve got to protect Jim! I’m not losing him again!” Claire exclaimed as shadow mephits began to cross the icy bridges connecting them to Camelot.
You took two mephits out with your sword while Toby yelled something about hammers. The four of you continued your fight, taking out as many goblins and shadow mephits as possible. It didn’t take too long for you to clear a path, making your way to Jim and the trolls.
Another blast of ice carved its way into the tower in front of you, forcing you to remember that same ice carving its way into your skin.
“Surrender, Merlin,”
That voice made you want to vomit. You took a few steps back, not even bothering to prepare a spell or level your sword at an opponent. You were somewhere else now.
Fortunately, you didn’t have to do much in terms of freeing the ship. One of the towers crashed into the bridges of ice, releasing Camelot from the Arcane Order’s hold and snapping you out of your traumatized haze.
You followed Claire and Steve up to the main tower, where Douxie was trying his best to steer the ship.
“Please don’t blow us up, please don’t blow us up,”
“We don’t have enough power for the jump!” Archie sounded as panicked as you felt.
“Trust in Merlin!” Scratch that, Douxie’s panicked shouting was much more like you.
“No thanks!”
Green fire surrounded whatever the hell device was controlling the ship, giving it enough power to tear a hole in time and space.
“We have to steer Camelot through the time rift!”
You would have helped if you hadn’t been slammed into one of the railings, left to cling on for your life. That was probably fine, Douxie, Claire and Steve were managing.
“IT ENDS,” it was the green knight’s voice again, “NOW,”
Panic surged through your veins as something hit the ship, tipping it, and sending you all flying. You held onto whatever you could, trying not to freefall through the air. Jim’s crystal nearly fell on you, instead, it fell down and into the time rift, which was probably worse than him just crushing you, but you couldn’t really think of that right now.
“What do we do man?”
“Trust me!” Douxie exclaimed, grabbing Claire and pulling her with him into the rift. You watched them fall, still panicking.
“Whatever, I have nothing better to do,” you joked, trying to calm your nerves. It wasn’t working. You let go and fell through the night and into a different time.
The sky changed.
It was daytime now.
You were still falling though.
“This is gonna hurt!”
“It- Does- Hurt!” Steve voiced your thoughts perfectly.
The wind was knocked from your lungs as you hit blue forcefield after blue forcefield and then the ground. The landing was pretty rough, but the good news was you were all alive.
The four of you remained lying on the ground for a moment before Steve began to freak out, something about being blind, before he was hit in the head with Jim’s crystal tomb.
The boy groaned, “What just happened?”
“Well, I just conjured an anti-gravity spell to slow our fall and keep us from dying. You’re welcome,”
“Thanks for not letting us die a horrible, horrible death, Casperan,” you said, sitting up. You did a quick check to make sure nothing was broken before you realized. You didn’t have an innate drive to murder the wizard anymore. You laughed a little, realizing the curse was broken, for now at least.
“(Y/N)? You okay, love?”
“I am much better than okay,” You turned to see Douxie’s very concerned face, elated to find that you didn’t want to kill him anymore, “I’ll explain later,”
“Douxie,” Claire asked, calling your attention to her, “Where is the flying castle?”
“Oh, fuzzbuckets! Well, it would appear we’ve had ourselves a temporal accident,”
“Which means?”
Douxie didn’t have time to answer before a sword was pointed at his throat. It wasn’t yours though, so that was nice.
You looked around to see your little group surrounded by guards, all of them with weapons pointing at you.
“It means, that we are lost in time,”
“Motherfu-”
“Ay-yi-yi,” grumbled Krel.
The grandeur of the ski resort’s lobby was lost on him when he categorically did not want to be there. “It is bad enough you drag me away from Mother. I should not have to see … that.”
He pointed at Aja and Steve accusingly. They were currently wrapped in each other’s arms over by the check-in counter, ignoring everything around them in favour of mashing their faces together. Varvatos shook his head, his booming voice at odds with his stout, geezer body.
“Varvatos promised the king and queen he would protect you both. He cannot do that if you are apart.”
Krel scoffed.
“You could have said no to this trip.”
“The queen-in-waiting assured me her ski-resort tickets were none-refundable.”
Krel waited for the rest of it. He couldn’t believe that was the reason they were here. But nothing came. He watched Varvatos turn to the check-in counter, slamming his wrinkled hand on the desk to demand the clerk do his job quicker. Then Krel’s gaze fell back to the lovebirds.
It wasn’t long before he was sure he would puke.
“Great Gaylen, this is ridiculous.”
Refusing to watch any more of the mushy spectacle, Krel turned to walk away, but fell into someone immediately. He stumbled, but she stumbled harder. She looked ready to fall over, but managed to catch her footing and only lost her chunky headphones instead. They clattered to the parquet flooring with a heavy thwu-tu-tunk.
“Sorry,” said Krel hurriedly, though he held Aja and the blonde oaf responsible. He picked up her headphones, held them out as if to hand them back, but paused when he heard the song playing out of them. “Hey! I know that music. You like Tiësto?”
He was surprised to find someone on his musical wave-length. But instead of reciprocating, the girl looked wide-eyed nervous. She nodded, but took the headphones from him then dashed off as quickly as she had come.
Krel watched her go, raising a puzzled eyebrow.
“Smooth move, buttsnack.” Said Steve, his voice dripping with its usual cockiness. Of course. The only reason he would break away from Aja’s face for a few seconds would be to interject his unwanted opinion.
“My movements are always smooth, thank you.”
After checking in, the quartet retired to their room on the tenth and highest floor. It was a room more akin to an apartment. Originally, Steve had booked a double just for him and Aja, but Varvatos had insisted on upgrading to one large room. He insisted everyone be within rescuing distance should the moment arise. It had left the clerks with very little choice but to put them in the penthouse, equipped with three bedrooms, a lounge, kitchenette, and cushy balcony hot tub. Krel’s digitally-adept fingers had made swift work of the resort’s membership cards, loading one with enough points to pay for the entire trip upfront.
“If I must be dragged away from fixing Mother, I should at least be comfortable.” He said, flopping down onto one of the large, sunken couches surrounding their personal fire-pit. Aja was over by the floor-length windows, looking out at the grand, snowy mountain peaks.
“So lively.” She cooed. She could see people on the hills, zipping down them on poles attached to their feet. “I want to try that.”
Steve came up alongside her, slipping his arm around her waist.
“That’s why we’re here, babe. We’re going skiing tomorrow.”
“Glorious!” Bellowed Varvatos, his hulking Akiridion body pressing up against the glass next to them. “We shall battle these who-mans on their powdered-water terrain. Varvatos imagines he is even more terrifying speeding towards his enemies on pointed sticks.”
The others laughed, hardly willing to tell him that skiing was not a contact sport.
*
The next morning, two of the Akiridions eagerly transducted into their human guises, while the third had to be bullied into it by his sister.
“I upgraded your serrators so you could go out whenever, and this is the thanks I get?” Complained Krel, shifting into his human form after Aja’s endless pestering. “Go without me! I have no desire to be cold or wet on some hill.”
“Please, little brother.” Aja begged, already wrapping up in thermal gear on the couch. “It will not be the same without you.” She paused to punctuate her point. “You need a break from duty, too.”
Krel knew she was right, in essence. But his idea of a break was something separate from the outdoor escapade she clearly wanted. But when she looked at him like that, he could hear his mama and papa telling him that all they had was each other. And with a sigh, he caved in.
“Fine. It should be no harder than riding your hoverboard.”
I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU AGAIN | Angor Rot
CHAPTER TWO
Next chapter (three)
Chapter One
Find a story on Wattpad, Neobook, Tumblr
Anoana wasn't too interested in the new troll hunter in fact she was never up to date on who the current new troll hunter was. She always believed that it was her husband who would be able to protect her even if he never returned from his trip to the islands of the gods as she called it, it's not that she didn't miss Angor the truth is that there wasn't a day or night in which she didn't weep watching the bed she sleeps in still empty on the other side.
It was as if she believed that Angor would regain her soul and return to her and Morgana would eventually be killed so that the couple could once again happily develop their village.
A village that is no longer there. She wasn't able to run the village she handed over the power to Vendel however she is still beside the old man to help him, not all the trolls of Rot village took the sudden change of power well they hoped that Angora's wife would handle the pressure and make them rebuild their village somewhere other than the marketplace however none of that happened. According to Anoana, this was the safest option she could have chosen.
she couldn't handle the pressure of being a leader she was used to standing by optionally suggesting what to do, smiling at the crowd when her husband spoke or she had time to help her subjects in the village. Here she helped the blacksmith with bringing rare metals she found in the deepest caves, here she helped in the troll nursery to teach the young trolls about the magic that could be extracted from every object from flowers, from tree leaves, from tree bark she showed them how to extract magic, from the nature that surrounded them on every side.
However, not every young troll was interested in this so she had the story of her expeditions in store, which were more interesting for children however, when the village of Rot joined the marketplace and there was no trace of Angor Anoana's heart broke however her hope that she would get her husband back did not diminish. She had a bad feeling about the expedition and yet she let him out of the village she feared that he had died on the way to the island where Morgana is located however, when she heard that Angor had become an assassin for Morgana her heart beat harder and her hope was strengthened she dreamed every night of meeting her beloved.
She disregarded the crimes he had committed, she told herself that he had been forced to do so. Since he was left, when Anoana learned that Angor had lost his soul her heart broke again every day and night she sat over her books and even books borrowed from Vendel optionally from Blinky with more willingness or less to lend to his wife the killer, she tried to find a way to retrieve Angor's souls from the hands of the shadow goddess however with poor results.
Unable to find the right spell even if she used forbidden books, after sleepless nights she finally succumbed to Indun who, each day worrying about her mother-to-be, urged her to rest. When Anoana finally succumbed to the younger troll she quietly uttered a vow to find a way to be reunited with her husband even if it was at the cost of her health or life, when the woman finally scaled back her attempts from finding a way to get her husband back she did not let go of learning spells such as transformation into any living being in this world
She was able to change into a lizard, a bird, a horse practically any animal she could dream up into she even went so far as to try to change into a dragon or a griffin, but she failed however with the help of an old friend she soon got the desired effect only she had a small problem.
She couldn't change into a human being whenever she tried and the magic around her blew away everything around her creating a small tornado and she slowly floated into the air feeling the magic flow through her body stretching or shrinking parts of her body however not everything went as smoothly as she wanted it to
Although she resembled a human her skin was flesh-colored maybe slightly pale, but to her eye her complexion was too pale, she still couldn't hide her horns or her tail the sun kept burning her turning her skin to stone, despite many attempts she still failed, when the appearance suited her thinking it wouldn't arouse people's suspicions the sun had a different plan, she couldn't produce a shield that protected her from the scorching sun just waiting to turn her to stone.
After several months of trying to turn herself into a human she finally gave up still living on the border of the Market in the most remote place, it's not that she didn't want to meet other trolls or talk to them she just didn't feel confident to live in a stone heart without Angora, after losing her husband she felt that her position had declined and she shouldn't elevate herself above other trolls as if she did before.
Although the biggest reason she isolated herself from the rest of the troll society was that trolls didn't like shapeshiftersodź she took lessons from the "hiding" of a certain young wizard to change her body into animals, she was afraid to brag to C about her abilities for fear of being shunned by society. Although Vendel knew what she had learned and applauded her power, which she continued to strengthen, he respected her decision to hide it in secret although he didn't understand why.
- Anoano what are you thinking about? - Asked Vendel's calm voice as the stone tankard came into contact with the stone table, the old man's heavy footsteps rang out among the crowd of other trolls in the tavern. Vendel sat down in front of the troll with his drink as his pale eyes looked intently at the widow - Your head is full of thoughts at the same time it is full of tension, not what you would expect from a wizard - Vendel added with his scholarly tone
Anoana smiled with difficulty as she listened to her leader's every word, her green eyes momentarily fixed on Vendel's staff made of a stone heart which, like the stone heart in the middle of the troll market, shimmered pink and orange - You're thinking about him again aren't you? - Vendel asked rhetorically, seeing the gaze of the woman, who thoughtfully began to braid her long red hair in a tight braid so as not to get her precious hair wet in a mug full of dried leaves, people call it tea, but Anoana didn't like human tea, so with the help of her transformation into a cat and a bird she watched people make this invention.
And she created her own mixture of leaves that tasted good to her, Indun and Vendel. The pleasant smell of brewed leaves split her nostrils as she thought of an answer she could give to the old man - It's been centuries since I've seen him, I've only heard horrible stories until he suddenly sank to the ground - whispered Anoana not wanting to speak louder so that the inquisitive ears of the trolls wouldn't hear what she was saying, she moved her protruding long ears gently to pick up any suspicious words in the tavern but heard nothing of interest
- I hope to find Infern Copul to give him back his stolen soul and to get back his husband," she stated her plan so confidently however not once did she move further from Arcadia even using the sewer tunnels she was unable to go further than the end of the city then doubts and maybe even panic flooded her veins effectively scaring her from traveling further. She had no problem leaving the market or Arcadia when she was trying to find out what the tea was made of however, when she wanted to move on the expedition and get her husband back fear was wracking her body.
- It was a rhetorical question," Vendel muttered, wanting to throw another smart remark, but refrained, "You've been planning this for decades and you still haven't done anything about it," the old man shook his head in disapproval he knew what it was to lose love however Anoana couldn't accept the fact that Angora was gone and unlikely to return to her life, he was defeated and imprisoned even the old man himself didn't know the exact location of Morgana's servant's prison.
Anoana squinted exceptionally she was not wearing a scarf, on her hair she had loose tassels hiding her green eyes, without a scarf she felt a bit undressed however she did not want to tie a scarf on her hair. Vendel dropped by her house while she was weighing potions out of boredom offered to drink tea together Anoana couldn't refuse him so that's how she ended up here. At the inn.
- I know Vendel - She muttered as her shoulders slumped in resignation - However, I will soon be able to go further out than before - She added after a while in the same dreamy tone, she twisted the stone tankard in her hand as she looked at the drink that was swirling inside the tankard - Please change the subject - She sighed heavily through her nose however Vendel understood why she asked this so he meekly nodded his head
Vendel did not have to think long about the next topic of conversation - Our human troll hunter challenged Draal to a duel. Did you hear about that? - He asked raising his eyebrow as he took a sip of tea without taking his eyes off the woman in front of him. The light blue troll's eyebrows rose high up, she was not yet used to the fact that their new troll hunter was human however she did not underestimate Jim, she had seen him from afar and knew that this young boy would do great deeds however he needed solid training not a tournament of who would die faster
- Are you sure this rumor is true? - asked the woman skeptically, putting the tankard down in front of her with a silly clatter as the tankard touched the stone floor of the table - Isn't this another invention of Draal? - asked the woman - The last time Draal challenged someone to a duel it turned out that the opponent didn't even know about it - the woman added after a while under her breath
- This time I trust Draal's words - Vendel muttered, rolling his eyes at the words muttered by the widow - I am inclined to believe that the troll hunter dared to challenge Draal - Vendel defended himself, finishing his tea without paying attention, that the widow hadn't even started drinking her warm decoction - I'm betting that the fight will be short anyway - Vendel shrugged his shoulders - But I hope I'm wrong - He added after a while feeling Anoana's appraising gaze on him
- Don't you believe in a boy? - She asked curiously, she knew such a case. Indun, considered by many a weak and naive girl too weak to face the monstrosity of this world and yet, when Anoana and Angor trained her taught her how to fight, how to use simple spells such as shield protection then Indun grew into a capable warrior, everyone could envy her. Anoana had a feeling that Jim Lake Jr. will be similar to Indun no one believes in him except a group of friends however at some point he will grow into a capable warrior for whom everyone will bow down for the work he does
Vendel squinted his pale eyes and murmured something under his breath - Disbelieving someone is a strong word - explained the old man linking his hands together on the table top he pressed his lips tighter together forming his mouth into a thin line feeling how his lips are still moist after drinking tea - However, I will admit that I have mixed thoughts about the boy - explained Vendel scratching his long beard, Anoana smiled gently hearing the sincerity of her friend who sometimes becomes her mentor
- Amulet chose Jim must have a reason," she finally explained taking the first sip of tea in this meeting, "Jim may have potential he doesn't know about yet," the woman muttered turning her gaze from Vendel to the table to their right, where Blinky was sitting, Aaarrrgghh, "Jim can be like a crystal, if he is polished well -
- This will emerge a strong fighter - Finished Vendel knowing what Anoana wants to say - I might agree - The old man followed the woman's gaze and also looked at the two friends, before he could utter his next words Anoana forewarned him
- However, you don't believe Blinky is a good teacher - She raised an eyebrow as she slowly turned her head towards the old man straightening up in her seat even more than necessary - I believe Blinky has learned from his mistakes and a bond will soon be formed between him and our new troll hunter -.
- Anoano, you are forging ahead," sighed Vendel, also taking his eyes off the table of trolls they were looking at, the market leader said nothing more to even contradict the woman's words. He wanted to chastise her for once again looking too far into the future, which might kick her in the butt because of what she had thought up and failed - In that case, will you come to the fight tomorrow? - finally asked the old man changing the subject
Anoana shook her head with a mocking smile on her face as she gently dropped her head. When she lifted her gaze she encountered two people sitting across from Blinky and Aaarrrgghh she immediately recognized the troll hunter and his friend - A busy schedule I have - She winked with a smile, ran her tongue over the top line of her teeth - However, I will come - Finally she looked towards Vendel nodding her head
Vendel smiled - In that case, I'll see you tomorrow - He said goodbye to the woman, who answered him with a brief nod of farewell as she stared dully into the mug of tea in front of her. When she raised her gaze again she stuck her gaze into the foursome who were whispering to each other, not overhearing them her long ears lowered to avoid accidentally hearing what secrets they were whispering to each other.
She hoped she wasn't looking too far into the future and Jim would turn out to be what she hoped he would become. She stared intently at the foursome contemplating the human troll hunter she hoped she was telling the truth and Jim would turn out to be worthy of having the amulet and maybe even be the best troll hunter in the history of trolls.
She smiled under her breath as she finished her tea in one gulp and moved away from the table. She would get up to go to her house and prepare for tomorrow's duel between the troll hunter and Draal, she didn't notice that the new troll hunter was also looking at her as she was looking at him. Jim turned again toward Blinky who was assessing the photo that Toby had taken when they fought the shapeshifter in the museum, but the troll hunter had something else on his mind right now other than worrying that some troll was looking at him as if he was assessing him.
✮⋆。°✩⋆˙⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆*: ・゚✧*: ・゚
Jim's speech after winning the battle with Draal brought only the fact that Vendel left the marketplace with the help of Blinkie and Aaarrrgghh to check what Jim saw was actually a decapitated bridge and not some other monument. Panic broke out in the marketplace, but Vendel with the help of Anoana and Indun successfully calmed the crowd of anxious trolls.
At the request of an elderly woman, Indun stayed at the market to keep watch over the peace while she was away.
Vendel, Aaarrrgghh and Blinky waited behind the human troll hunter and his friend at the time the market leader was looking at the displays on display in the museum, Vendel did not necessarily understand the art that people enjoyed so much. Holding his scepter tightly as his patience ran out Aaarrrgghh looked around from time to time hoping that Jim and the appendage would soon arrive Blinky meanwhile was boiling in place with stress trying to somehow strike up a conversation with Vendel but after another reluctant mutter from the leader he finally understood Vendel's allusion and stopped talking.
- Let's hope he does something about the cameras," Jim muttered, stepping through the window inside the museum as he began to look around for a potential museum security guard this time Toby was trying to squeeze through a narrow window. Letting out a sigh and moving around the troll hunter's friend tried to get inside the museum
- Oh boy, so it's true," muttered Toby squeezing himself into the window, as his body slowly squeezed through the window frame, Jim extended him a helping hand but Toby ignored it or didn't even notice it, "The criminal always returns to the scene of the crime," after saying these words Tobes body finally freed itself from the grasp of the window to jump inside and fall to the ground with a silent thud, Jim seeing his friend fall only contorted his face in a sign of pain
- He thinks the Arrest will convert us, but it's even worse," concluded Domzalski trotting after his friend unable to catch up with him, Jim without turning behind him walked on without waiting behind his friend knowing he was following him
- Lucky there are no goblins," whispered Jim more to himself than to Tobes, the two teens were walking deeper into the museum, where the market leader, Aaarrrgghh and Blinky were waiting behind them, however, the teens were not the only ones who were late.
Vendel was getting more and more impatient, but he was looking curiously at the relics on display and his eye was caught by an old-fashioned dress from the Renaissance, but he didn't like it, He furrowed his brow and wrinkles formed on his forehead as he began to gently tap the mannequin on which the dress was displayed with his scepter - What a ridiculous garment - he muttered under his breath and Aaarrrgghh and Blinky were forced to stand behind him for a good half hour while the leader looked at one and the same thing.
The two trolls simultaneously rolled their eyes, however, when they heard footsteps behind them they turned to see Jim and Toby walking hurriedly toward them. Blinky had a tightly wrinkled nose - You're late," he accused them almost immediately as the teenagers approached them
- Yes, Yes, sorry Draal trained Jim," explained Tobes which was clearly meant to keep the secret that Kanjigar's son now lives in his basement to protect the teenager and his mother Barbara. Tobes receiving an elbow to the stomach looked with a confused look at his friend, who threw him a brief look full of anger, the green big troll raised his eyebrows a little lower than Blinky's
- Draal? - muttered Aaarrrgghh - He was training? - Finished Blinky both confused whether they heard correctly
The young troll hunter squirmed when he realized that he would have to explain to his mentor and Aaarrrgghh that Draal lives in his house to protect him and his mother - Yes. He has settled a bit in the basement - Jim had a tendency that when he was stressed or didn't know what to say he waved his hands to emphasize his point of view this moment he rubbed his hand over his knuckles as he explained - He makes for a bodyguard - Lake shrugged his shoulders not knowing what more to add
Blinky squinted - Of course the defeated troll turns to the victorious duelist asking for shelter," Blinky concluded sarcastically, linking his hands in front of him as if he wanted to pray to the gods that Jim would not be stupid enough to make it true
- So everything is fine? - Summed up Jim with a quiet hope that what Draal did was normal however, when Blinkie's shoulders slumped and he threw him an angry look and Aaarrrgghh behind the blue troll was shaking his head the teenager quickly realized that what Kanjigar's son did was not normal for the custom of trolls
- Oh yes everything is fine," concluded Blinky almost growling at Jim, "As long as there is no catastrophe even worse because of this! To a cataclysm! - outraged Blinky still throwing sarcastic remarks. Jim sighed heavily feeling embarrassed, before Blinky could continue his tirade interjected Vendel who stood behind the two trolls and listened to everything
- Are we, with apologies, waiting to be caught? Or are you going to show me what is supposed to resemble a bridge of decapitation? - Demanded Vendel and impatience and annoyance flooded him as the meeting grew longer and longer, when Blinky wanted to answer by placing his one of his four hands on Jim's shoulder but the words had not had time to leave his mouth when a small white bird flew into the museum. Not a typical bird, as it did not resemble a pigeon or any other bird often found in Arcadia
The bird was white one on its wings there were brown and red feathers that created an ombre effect on the bird's wings. As the bird was getting closer and closer to them Jim unconsciously pulled out the amulet sensing that this bird could be a threat come to think of it the little one sensed that something was wrong with this bird because it wasn't acting like a well... a real bird... The teenager wasn't wrong because the closer he got to them the more the animal lowered its flight to soon turn into a ball of light which transformed into a troll.
Anoana straightened up coming out of the bird's body she corrected her white dress the closer she got to the group, her steps were steady she was in no hurry. Jim raised his eyebrows seeing Anoana remembering that she was the one who had looked at him in the inn but now the trolless was wearing her familiar headdress and the tassels fell freely down covering her eyes and part of her nose and her light blue skin stood out delicately against the dark museum - Vendel where is that characteristic calm of yours? - Anoana almost mocked the leader by standing next to him
- Did she? - Toby pointed at the troll looking at her long white horns which were not curled like those of other trolls, but she had horns similar to a deer and her red hair was pulled back but in front she had two braids, her hair reached her calves she was a bit bigger than the hunchbacked leader, maybe if the old man had straightened up Vendel would have surpassed her - She was a bird just now! - Said Toby loudly however Jim quickly silenced him
Lake and Domzalski didn't know what to think they had heard about shapeshifters only that the ones in Blinkie's story didn't turn into animals - Oh - Anoana muttered - I didn't know that my entrance would cause so much confusion, she hurried - She added after a moment in thought - Apparently people have never seen real magic - she added thoughtfully
Vendel merely rolled his eyes, unable to wait to see the decapitated bridge as long as the young troll hunter actually saw the decapitated bridge. Before Jim or anyone else had time to ask questions about the magic Anoana was talking about Vendel interjected - Can we move? - demanded the leader
Blinky shook his head, shaking off his surprise at the widow's sudden appearance. Galadrigal patted Jim again - It was just our hunter who wanted to lead us - Blinkous stated, the teenager only smiled awkwardly
- That's right," choked Jim, "I was just about to do it," muttered the teenager as he started walking toward where he found a bridge, or something that resembled a bridge of decapitation.
The group moved deeper into the museum Anoana was enthralled by the art that was on display for visitors, whenever she could she would stop to look at the exhibits, when the group moved away without waiting behind the troll this one walked away from the exhibits she sped up her steps to be able to catch up with the group that was not waiting behind the widow.
Jim walking towards the bridge of the decapitated head which he found or as he let it pass he found, the widow didn't listen too much however she focused when Jim opened the door - And then we escape from the goblins - Jim explained and Anoana raised her eyebrows, she really should have listened from the beginning when Jim spoke however she couldn't help but be more focused for the museum exhibits - And what do we see? The bridge of the decapitated head - Jim dramatically pushed back the white sheets that covered the closed exhibition
The teenager to add drama rested his hands on his hips, but to the group's eyes appeared an unknown large thing hidden under the sheet. Blinky and Vendel's eyes widened and after a moment they looked at each other, the two teenagers would move to be able to reveal to them what was hiding under the sheet being sure that it was the bridge of a decapitated head, the group of trolls slowly approached the two teenagers who were trying to pull down the large tarp.
Anoana approached the two teenagers - I'll help - She murmured kindly bending down to pick up the white tarp wanting to help the young troll hunter and his appendage however Aaarrrgghh preceded her pushing the teenagers away. The widow, understanding that Aaarrrgghh would pull down the tarp in one stroke just as the teenagers obediently stepped back giving room to the bigger and stronger troll
Aaarrrgghh pulling down the tarpaulin in one motion showed the eyes of the group a huge wooden ship from some era, the widow bet that the ship was from the medieval era or maybe even the Viking era, it was hard for her to tell however the ship itself made her delighted with it. Vendel looked at the troll hunter with annoyance - It doesn't look like a bridge to me - the old man muttered The widow wanted to throw him a sarcastic remark, but refrained as she looked at the ship
- Well he was here - The human troll hunter stressed mumbling quickly wanting them to believe his words that the decapitation bridge was here, if he was so insistent that he saw the decapitation bridge then, why is there a Viking era ship here? Anoana turned her head slightly as Lake continued to explain however he spoke quickly and it was difficult to understand any words, the troll hunter pulled his friend by the hand wanting him to confirm his version of events - After all, you were here yesterday you even took a picture! - Lake almost begged Domzalski to confirm what Jim was trying to present
- Apparently so - stammered Toby - But it wasn't sharp and I forgot to turn on the lamp - argued Tobes without even noticing how Vendel's face is getting more and more annoyed as they listen to the explanations of the troll hunter and his friend - Plus that crazy pace - muttered Toby and Jim crooked more and more when he realized that Blinky might have been right, that he was predicted - We were rushing blindly, they were chasing us - argued Tobes further, ignoring Jim's nervous eye
- Maybe there was no bridge? - grimaced Domzalski as he came to this conclusion, Vendel on cue turned towards the smaller blue troll with an accusatory and angry look full of irritation that flooded the veins of the older troll as he continued to hunch over while holding his scepter as tightly as he could
- Blinkous Galadrigal - Vendel pronounced the name almost with even more irritation as he watched the smaller troll's shoulders slump as the older troll looked at him accusingly - I haven't left the marketplace for a century - Recalled the marketplace chief - I agreed to this trip because you deluded me with the vision of seeing the bridge - Said an exasperated Vendel as blood bubbled in his veins
- You put me in danger Blinkous," Vendel sent him an even angrier look, to which Blinky replied with the same crossed his first pair of arms on his chest and rested his second pair of hands on his hips as Vendel tapped his cane on the ground to express his displeasure more forcefully
- If Master Jim claims to have seen," argued Blinky, but he was not allowed to finish, "So you let yourself be misled," growled Vendel, the widow looking at the situation like the rest of the group, she let the air out hard through her nose shaking her head
- We both know how much you like conspiracies and plotting," Vendel argued, wanting to explain to Galadrigal what a mistake he had made by trusting the young troll hunter so much that he took Vendel out after centuries when he didn't have to leave. Anoana looked at the troll hunter whose shoulders slumped hearing Vendel vent his anger at his mentor. The widow didn't want to say anything for now to curb Blinkous' reprimand
- Conspiracies meddle me," Blinky argued as he said this very poetically pointing his finger at the chief to emphasize his point of view, "That's why I want to expose them," he argued further punching his fists in the air as more and more irritation awoke in the lesser troll as in Vendel.
- Like when you decided to rid our world of cat meat," Vendel raised one eyebrow in boredom as he heard Blinke's resistance to Blinke's claim that the troll hunter might be right, Anoana took no sides she knew that at some point the shapeshifters would want to rebuild the bridge of the felled head after all Bular wants his father back and Gunmar wants the whole world. The widow knew it was a matter of time when the dark night would come she only hoped that she would find her husband in time to give him his soul at the same time run away with him as far as she could to hide in the darkness of the caves.
- A big misunderstanding," Blinky indignantly moved back as he rested all four pairs of hands on his hips, Jim looked confused towards Aaarrrgghh who was standing behind the ship. The human troll hunter asked a silent question to the pacifist if what Vendel was saying was true to which the latter nodded without uttering a single word to interrupt the argument between Galadrigal
- And remember how you made us believe that our furs were teeming with fleas? - Vendel continued to argue however Blinky did not see his errors in this
Anoana quietly sighed, seeing the growing argument - But it's true - She muttered under her breath, but no one heard it at least she thought so Jim sent her a confused look this time - Calmly this outbreak has been resolved but sometimes it happens that a troll has fleas - she explained to the teenager, who only nodded in understanding
- Prudence the highest virtue," Blinky argued, but he felt the ground disappear under his feet as Vendel became increasingly aware of his mistakes which made the chief even more distrustful of him if he trusted him at all....
- Everyone believed it," Vendel muttered, "Everyone in the marketplace thinks you're paranoid! -
- If everyone thinks so then it must be some kind of conspiracy! - Exploded Blinky without paying attention to the words, his earlier arguments went to ruin when he realized what he had said before he had time to correct his words, the old man ran his hand over with fatigue knowing that the conversation would have no effect. Vendel slowly turned towards Aaarrrgghh, Toby, Jim and Anoana who were standing behind the two trolls who were arguing
- Well your youngster is trying to play the hero," he muttered casting a glance at Jim and then looked at Blinkous again pointing an accusatory finger at him, "You, on the other hand, are looking for danger where there is none," accused Vendel
Anoana was alert she listened to what Vendel was saying at the same time she did not take her eyes off Jim and Tobes, seeing them both lower their heads in a sign of defeat after the old man's words her heart beat harder seeing their sad faces she moved to stand between them and put her stone hands on their shoulders, sending them a small warm smile of encouragement wanting to make them feel better with poor results.
Both boys smiled briefly at the widow however, their grim expression returned, she squeezed her hand tighter on the troll hunter's shoulder. Vendel moved forward - Aaarrrgghh take me home," ordered Vendel, the larger troll muttered something in agreement moving towards the exit but stopped to look at the widow with a silent question if he was coming with them.
Anoana merely shook her head in response to Aaarrrgghh, she pulled her hand off Toby's shoulder as he moved behind Vendel and Aaarrrgghh to escort the market chief away. Anoana glanced at Jim seeing him looking awkwardly at the floor, out of the corner of her eye she watched Blinky who crossed his arms over his chest in annoyance. Anoana sensed that she should leave to give them space to talk however she was not going to do so without adding her words
- Don't lose faith troll hunter - Whispered the widow, leaning closer to the smaller teenager to be on an equal level with him, the boy at her words raised his head to look at her - You know what you saw - she continued as she turned her gaze away from the boy to look at the ship - It's been centuries since Gunmar has been in the land of shadows, it's obvious that he will want to escape - she explained interrupting the
- Having a loyal son at your side who could take on armies of shapeshifters at any time - She swallowed hard again interrupting her words, she let go of his arm continuing to look towards the ship and not towards Jim - Not everyone will believe you or follow you however no one can question what you saw - Finally she looked at him as the boy looked at her with a puzzled expression as he tried to understand her words
- You can make them believe your word and I know a person who will investigate the matter," she added with a gentle smile, Jim furrowed his eyebrows only watched as the widow cast a quick glance in the direction of the blue troll, who still stood there like an offended child with his arms crossed over his chest. He crossed all four arms and his cheeks pouted like an offended child.
Jim wanted answers from the widow and maybe even an explanation of how to make Vendel believe a human troll hunter, Jim just like the woman before him looked towards the ship. Anoana only shook her head, the widow spoke puzzlingly to the teenager specifically would the young boy discover the answers to her words on his own
- Vendel thinks you got carried away by your imagination when Blinkous told you the story of the trolls," she muttered, placing her hand on the teenager's shoulder again, "Imagination can sharpen our senses preparing us for the unexpected, you're a troll hunter worried you'll have to face Gunmar or his son," she sighed.
- I believe you saw the bridge however the question is, where is the bridge? - she asked deafeningly and the teenager shook his head, no longer believing himself.
Jim almost threw up his arms pointing to the ship, he could have sworn on his life that he had seen the bridge right here - I swear I saw it here - Jim argued looking around the room hoping to find a clue to where the bridge might have disappeared however he saw nothing in particular - How am I supposed to find the bridge when even now I'm not sure I saw it - Jim sighed, his nostrils flared as he looked pityingly at the widow who was taller than him
Anoana gently tilted her head - Do you stop believing in yourself? - She asked, but she knew the answer to this question, Jim reluctantly nodded his head - Bad - she reprimanded him - Very bad, a good warrior does not doubt himself - she squeezed his arm tighter, wanting to encourage him, although she did not know if it actually worked.
The widow looked at the boy waiting for his question seeing it forming in his head - You talk about a good fighter, when I'm not even a good fighter - He muttered looking at the troll next to him - How do you know I will be a good fighter? - He raised his eyebrow suspiciously
Anoana only giggled shaking her head at the teenager's question - You have to find the answer to this question yourself - She joined her hands on her stomach as she looked at Jim, who only mumbled without getting a sufficient answer, she knew he was speaking in riddles however she wanted to hint to the boy what to look for in the dark corridors of ignorance to discover what he had not yet discovered himself - When you find the answer you will tell me yourself - she smiled gently
- Are you a good fighter Jim Lake Jr? -
Jim clenched his jaws tighter as he looked at the ship Anoana sensing Blinky approaching Jim stepped back to give them space - I swear he was here - Jim muttered wanting to look at Anoane who was not next to him, when he turned around he met Blinkous who was approaching the teenager
- Maybe Vendel is right," muttered Blinkous, "Na I told you fairy tales and you let your imagination run wild," Blinky stated, so many questions were boiling in Jim's head so many riddles at once that he didn't know what to do himself. Jim only firmly shook his head believing that he had not predicted and saw the bridge of the decapitated head, when the teenager wanted to ask the widow something he noticed that the widow raised her hands above her head like a bird preparing to fly and her body begins to surround magic at the same time shrinking to the size of a small hummingbird, which quickly escapes through the open window through which Jim and Toby entered.
Jim sighed heavily as he looked at his mentor, "It's my fault," stated Blinky pulling the teenager out of his reverie, Lake had not previously caught the sad tone of his mentor however, when he realized this he wanted to help Blinky regain his faith that he was not at fault and maybe even helped
- No - Denied the boy coming closer to the troll so he could see him - It's not your fault at all - Argued the boy further - Please believe me, just like she believed me... Well - Jim interrupted his argument for a moment realizing that he didn't know the widow's name and yet she messed with his head, he put his hand on his chest - Well like that troll, I really know what I saw - he argued as the teenager's shoulders slumped to the side just like Blinky's
The light blue troll only sighed heavily, turning towards the teenager - If there is no proof they must be somewhere else - Blinky stated grabbing Jim's arm wanting to give him his support, Jim stood there with a serious look on his face as he watched the desire to uncover the conspiracy arouse in the blue troll - Get on with your studies better - He instructed in an authoritarian tone - And I will investigate," the troll whispered, sending a small smile towards the teenager, who reciprocated.
