Should Women Prisoners be Unknowingly Sterilized, what says you? "Today We Are Sisters" is a paintoem (painting + poem). Paintoems are poems inspired by paintings or drawings; or paintings and drawings inspired by poems. They are combined together as a single work of Digital art. All paintoems are classified as a Creative Commons (CC). This means the public has the right to freely use these works as long as the artist or artists are acknowledged. This paintoem was created in 2018, as a response to reports of reparations by California officials to victims of its forced sterilization program, 1909 - 1979. However, from 2006 - 2010, 150 California women prisoners were illegally sterilized by force and were being excluded from reparations. The premise behind this work was to act as a unifying force amongst women of different political persuasions, Pro-choice and Pro-life. In 2018, C-Note donated his drawing "Today We Are Sisters" to the California Coalition for Women Prisoners (CCWP). That year, the CCWP began lobbying California legislators for reparations to these women prisoners. February of 2021, saw the video release of "Free Virtual Art Exhibition (1-Artist; 1-Subject; 21-Works)." The exhibition consisted of 21-Works by C-Note. Each work in the exhibition consisted of his Works related to incarceration. The final piece of the exhibition concluded with "Today We Are Sisters." Shortly after the release of the "21-Works" video, the California legislation put forth a Bill to give California women prisoners who were forcibly sterilized reparations. A $7.5 million reparations Bill was signed into law in July of 2021. #Adsmith #Prisonart #artforsale #gift #interiordesign #realestate #digitalart #prisoner #prison #art #doctor #doctors #maternity #children #women #womenhealth #womenprisoners #sterlization #pregnancy #poem #poetry #poet #prisonpoet #cnote #artists (at Silicon Valley) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl69SAfScgM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I got my tubes out yesterday! Glad to have it done. I kept worrying that someone wouldn't let me.
I don't even remember falling asleep like I have with other anesthetics I was just awake and then I was waking up extremely sleepy and the procedure was all done.
I haven't had to use any of the strong pain meds so far, just Tylenol and ice but my perception of what is very bad abdominal pain is probably tilted by the worst flares I have had. This just kind of feels irritating but not unbearable.
Honestly I have been more sore from the entubation than anything else.

Accidental Warlord AU headcannon that the Witchers have to take human carrying lessons. Prior to Geralt's little oopsie, a Witcher on the Path wouldn't have handled a non-witcher at all or with much care whem they did have to. Like having to fight a monster and only having one hand free to shove some scared person behind them or carrying a corpse back to town. It's not gentle handling of relatively fragile (emotionally and physically) beings.
After Geralt's become the Warlord, there's a baby in the keep. And that baby gets handed to different people, all of whom have 0% experience holding a baby, much less correctly.
"The baby doesn't like me."
"Why'dya think that?"
"Everytime I hold her she rolls her head away from me! She doesn't want to look at me."
"She's a baby. She doesn't know what she likes yet."
"...do you think she's afraid of my scars?"
"Eskel..."
"Maybe someone else should watch her for Geralt during meetings."
"No, look. Let's go get her right now and figure this out. Prejudice is learned, right? It's not possible that she could make that kind of judgement I don't think."
"Well, okay but I swear she does it."
"..."
"..."
"...you know you have to support her head, Eskel?"
"...What's that mean exactly?"
"I don't know. Ya just do it."
"Helpful advice."
And like, Jan has to come to their rescue and teach them how to hold baby Ciri properly and how to swaddle her just right and how to carry her in a bjorn sorta thing without slipping out to hit the floor and how to carry her on a hip while still getting work done as she gets older. Throwing her over a shoulder potato-sack style is a sometimes-at-play thing not a consistent means of transporting the Warlord's heir (no matter how she laughs when they do that).
It doubles with chores for efficiency. Bricks and mortar wrapped in old clothing to mimic the general shape of babies which are then strapped to chests or cradled in an arm. If your brick cracks your baby is dead. If the "head" rolls off your baby is dead. If you forget about it off to the side for too long the enchanted cloth changes color to signify your baby is dead.
Literal sacks of flour hoisted onto a hip and kept there all day to mimic clingy toddlers. Your "kid" gets wet the enchanted sack becomes covered in a layer of mucus to simulate how easily they can become sick. Your "kid" drops to the floor, it's been enchanted to scream until you cuddle it into a fitful "sleep".
The Witchers develop a point system and maybe a drinking game about it.
After Geralt, who has learned how to hold Ciri in the trial-by-fire that was traveling the Path with an infant, Lambert and Aubry pick it up the quickest, being the most involved with the current generation of Wolf Cubs.
After a good streak is kept, most Witchers are free to leave the training game, but a good chunk decide to move up a level instead and learn to handle the live children in the Keep. Mostly the little trainees, but also the servants' children. And all the laisse-faire attitudes about dropping bricks and sacks of flour are abandoned immediately.
Little bodies, so warm and heavy in one's arms that when they wriggle away it leaves Witchers feeling bereft. The slow puffs of sleepy breaths buried against hollow throats as children doze off while being held in arms that have been trained ot destroy. The bouncy giddyness of a child-upon-hip delighted at the height at which they see the world as stairs are ascended. A fussy baby distracted by strands of long hair that surround them as a nose buries into their head to breathe in deep that sweet infant scent.
And it feels right caring for the children who are their future brothers and honorary nieces and nephews and cousins. Like something they should have been doing all along. Tending to a kinder future.

Last post reminds me of the time I got banned from an adult trauma and mental health counseling forum because I swore once and referenced the existence of porn. Fully banned from the entire site for life. On an adult counseling forum.

The r femaleantinatalism vibes are strong here. (Neutral statement. I'm self conscious to admit I lurk there when I'm having a Bad TimeĀ©ļø and doom scrolling) I'm an aspiring parent, and I stan for the child frees. I especially stan my queer and trans brethren who want to be and are parents. I love the non-cis centered, trans inclusive language in this thread. I think the more we break down the cis/straight normative alleged monopoly on parenthood the better. I'm glad to hear there's pros out there making that choice. I know IIII was over the moon in 2015-ish when I had a gyno who was on gender neutral language for contraceptives etc. In a cis-maybe-egg-y ally way of course, ahem.
I think we all need to work to reduce stigma and improve care, and again, I'm really glad to hear that is slowly happening. Baked in Misogyny is the worst. I would say that part of the rotten natalist ideology is romanticizing suffering as spiritually necessary. All the way back to the Eve's punishment in Eden. This may be because I was raised Catholic, but idk. Thanks, I hate it.
There's a distinct way folks, especially women and afab, are taught to view and accept suffering. People a million times more qualified than me have been spilling ink on it for centuries. Un-learning that is so tedious and hard, but so worth it. Especially if we choose to take the risks associated with pregnancy and parenthood. I know it's been really radical and difficult for myself to learn to self advocate contrary to how I was raised. Y'know, to make sure the Dr. Is treating me like a Person. It wasn't until an appointment went really badly that I even considered having my partner or even just a trusted someone with me. I had just swallowed to do it alone.
We really, really, REALLY gotta work on normalizing clearly understanding the whole enchilada of complications and enhancing support around pregnancy. I think it's already happening with many realities of parenthood with online discussions, but it's just not there with pregnancy.
We deserve a societal landscape as free from herteonormative pro-life Misogyny smog as possible to make clear, informed decisions that we honor and GD respect.
the thing is like. i get that it's scary and makes people who do desire to get pregnant uncomfortable when we talk about the brutality and violence of pregnancy and the damage that pregnancy can do to your body
but you deserve to give informed consent to that process.
the lies around pregnancy - that it's inherently safe, that it doesn't do you permanent damage, that it's only extremely rare for people to die of pregnancy complications, etc like
all of these are lies constructed so that more people will get pregnant w/o knowing all that
there needs to be more talk about the impact of miscarriages and how common they are, how different abortion processes are and how accessible they are
but also like. talking about how pregnancy fucks your body up should not be taboo
this is a process that permanently changes most people's bodies, and that's even if the pregnancy doesn't do them like. severe illness or injury
and i just think everybody should have a right to KNOW that
bc to live in a society that intentionally obscures and hides facts about a completely optional and dangerous process does so for a reason, and that reason is based in a very sinister ideology that does not value bodily autonomy or informed consent

dont you know that if Bad Things happen in a piece of media it is an automatic endorsement and you cant like it?? this is internet logic 101 cmon you gotta brush up
(sarcasm aside fallout nv is a flawed game but the satire and commentary of old world blues is pretty clear...??)
God, how could I forget again. I cant believe myself, id better rethink my entire game library and only play real adult games that never go into anything harmful, like Pajama Sam.
This game definitely has a lot of flaws. The Khans alone are a hotbed of issues. I dint like HH for a reason.
I cant imagine looking at OWB and going 'we should take everything here seriously, there is no messaging because this writing making them fucking ridiculous is endorsing war crimes beyond comprehension and American Patriotism Anti Communism'

Meet Bin & Blu, a couple of fugitives who find themselves on the strangest planet they've ever seen... Earth.
Their home world is a planet called Tora. Their species is also called Tora, or Torae when referring to them collectively. (an individual Tora, or multiple Torae). Like its nearest neighbour, Sixam, the planet Tora is a matriarchal society. Also like Sixam, both biological males and females can bear children, and no social concept of gender exists. People form relationships with whomever they want, and individuals are differentiated by biological sex rather than by a socially-constructed gender system.
Tora has a class or caste system. Unlike Sixam, class is not based on colour or biological sex, but rather by economic and socio-political standing. Tora is not a peaceful world like Sixam, either. There is a lot of unrest, with people constantly trying to become wealthy, successful or famous and trying to climb the class ladder.
Blu is from the upper class, but lost status due to his political views and his association with people like Bin, who started in the middle class but fell to the lower class due to his criminal proclivities.
On their home world, Blu and Bin were were caught while attempting to flee after Blu helped Bin escape from prison. Blu was more likely than not headed for prison himself because of his socio-political advocacy, and the authorities decided that instead of incarcerating both of them on the home world, they'd get rid of them by dropping them off on some backwater planet and stranding them there. They were left with only a few items of clothing and supplies, and that was that.
They decided fairly quickly that they'd need "Earth names" in order to integrate better. Unfortunately, they realized just as quickly that no one on this planet looks even remotely like them, and new names would not help them integrate at all. They also discovered that having a good vocabulary in a language isn't enough when it comes to naming. Context is also important, and Dustbin and Blu-Ray, as it turns out, were not the best choices for names.
Currently, they're camping on a beach in Tomarang and trying to figure out their next move.
____________________
About Bin Real Name: Azri Kana'an Earth Name: Dustbin (or Bin for short) Occpuation: thief, elemental master
Azri (Bin) is one of the minority of people on his world who can harness elements. He's a genetic throwback from the days when magic was more prevalent than science and technology. Magic is largely lost to the Torae now, and those who do possess it are either elevated as quasi-spiritual figures or vilified, depending on who you ask. There is very little middle ground. Azri's life choices unfortunately led him to be viewed more as a danger to public order than to be seen as a leader or hero of any sort
He's notorious for his thefts of large amounts of currency and other easily-liquidated valuables. He gave most of the money to organizations dedicated to dismantling the class system on his world and making life more fair and equitable for everyone. He actually enjoys the adrenaline rush he gets from stealing, and in between heists, he likes to steal small items for fun.
He was given medication to sterlize him while he was in prison, and is convinced he can't get pregnant now, which is good in his opinion because he's very sexually adventurous.
About Blu Real Name: Valyn Auri'el Earth Name: Blu-Ray (or Blu for short) Occpuation: social worker, activist
Valyn (Blu) comes from a wealthy and prominent family. He was expected to join his family's business enterprise and amass his own fortune, but after recognizing the plight of the lower classes, he decided he wanted to dedicate his life to helping them instead of enriching himself. He trained to be a social worker, a job usually done by lower middle class individuals. He met Bin while working in his city's prison, and despite knowing it wasn't a good idea to start a relationship with a client, he did it anyway. Between them, they hatched a wild plot to break Bin out of jail.
His facial marking isn't natural; it's a tattoo that's fashionable among the upper classes, which parents often have applied to their children at a young age. Blu hates it because it easily identifies him as coming from the upper class, but Bin thinks it's beautiful, particularly at night when the moons-light hits it and makes it look glossy.
He loves the water, and like most members of his species, he can stay underwater for several minutes without needing to come up for air.
