Okay, I know we all like to make jokes about how Much of a freak Grace is, don't get me wrong, I have too! It's very fun, but we've only ever seen her have one sexual fantasy for exactly one man at the age of 18, and she was perfectly fine in abstinence camp! So I also like the idea that grace has a perfectly normal, or even below average sex-drive, but has just had it so drilled out of her that she's convinced it's insane. Like her friends (specifically Steph) just have to remind her it's normal and to stop being so self depreciating about it.

Empty Chair Theories

@wdway I feel like you asked me about the heart chair the other day. I am not sure of the color, but red iterations of the heart chair show up at the commonwealth. The one at Leah's is a kind of rusted red color.

Maybe it's a rusted color because the cabin represents Leah. Kind of goes along with her hair and coat.

I'm really intrigued by your empty chair theory. I love this shot a lot, and now I love it more. It's a woman whose face we c@wdwayot see. She exists in an autumnal dream. The color of her hair blends in with the color of the dog, which suggests that she is partially an illusion. Beside her is the empty chair with the heart back. To me, this shot illustrates how badly Daryl was trying to make his life with Leah into the life he wished he could have had with Beth, but ultimately, it's just not there. Beth is missing. The chair is empty.

The red lantern, too, is another indication that this scene is basically a warning. It's like when you have a dream and you see a red door, you're not supposed to open the red door.

I remember initially we wondered if this meant there was a connection between Leah and the CW. This could be true but also, at the Commonwealth, I'm pretty sure Eugene is sitting in one of these chairs in Rogue Element when Stephony fails to show up to meet him for ice cream. This could be the key to understanding the meaning of the empty chair. We've talked so much about how Eugene and Max are proxies for Daryl and Beth. It took Eugene a long time to find Max, and he was fooled by an imposter at first. It's the same chair.

Rogue Element is also the episode in which Stephony reads parts of Eugene's novel out loud, and Eugene explains to her that there are elements in the story that are still vague because they will be illuminated in yet-unwritten chapters.

I love the shot with the red chair. Eugene and Max not knowing what they'll become. Their ice cream is sitting in mason jars the same kind of jars that Daryl and Beth drink out of and Still.

Anyway I know we all know this stuff but sometimes it's gratifying to repeat it like, no this wasn't a one-off bit of imagery. It keeps coming back.

I just noticed too that the chair in the shot with Lance (which was part of the CW commercial) is black. That would have been the first time we saw it, after Find Me. This is further indication that we should be paying attention to the chair, because it changes color.

Also I really can't stop thinking about the empty stroller next to the empty chair in that shot from the spin-off. Since the show is called "Daryl Dixon," I feel that a lot of what we see will be projections of Daryl's psychology. He's a really rich character, symbolically. There is so much imagery that is related to Daryl. The empty stroller is extra interesting because it's somewhat new, and it makes me think about perhaps his regret, at not having children, at not having the chance to have had children (with her).

The only other time we see this kind of thing, that I can remember, is the empty car seat in "After." Rick and Carl see it and assume it means Judith is dead. This fills them with regret, of course.

I'm still trying to figure out where I have seen another wire heart chair before the one in Find Me, because I remember seeing that chair when the episode aired and thinking, "oh, it's just like the chair in...?" and I can't remember where it was. You did point out that there was a red chair in s11 that was around Eugene giving him the signal that what was happening was danger/red alarm. I had thought I had remembered him in a similar chair but it was white, as it turned out what I was remembering incorrect but let me show it.

He's sitting in a more ornate black chair but if you look to the right behind him there are white wire chairs. If you look closer though they don't have a heart shape in them, they have to circles at the top.

I think that this is just telling us that even though Eugene is a proxy for Daryl, he is not Daryl. Similar chair but not exact.

Then I decided to go and get a shot of the chair that started me on this journey of empty chair recognition. S11e18 A New Deal. Looking at it now I swear I don't know how I even saw it. But for some reason it caught my attention. And the journey began.

Here's what I find somewhat similar, it's not a very sturdy looking chair. It doesn't look like it's really made for a large person. It has simple lines and no arms.

Guess where else I found a similar looking chair, when I say similar I mean no arms, that type of thing.

Find Me.

This is Daryl about to tell Carol the story of Leah, on the cabin porch. There are actually two chairs, one in the distance that is a white walker and then this little no arm chair that we don't see any other time.

I don't know if there's any real point here other than it just seems very strange to me the similarities between Find Me and things that we find around Daryl in other episodes that seems to be related to him.

We've been talking a lot about the wire heart chair in Find Me. I had mentioned that I thought I had seen one somewhere before in an earlier season, I just couldn't remember where. Last night I realized why I thought I had seen the chair before. It isn't exactly a chair, it's a combination of different objects that I think might have inspired the creation of the chair.

I had mentioned yesterday about going old episodes looking at different chairs and going back to the kitchen scene in Alone. How the chairs they're sitting in the kitchen have a double rounded top. It hit me that if you combine the two, the chairs and the palmette it kind of creates the back of that little chair. I think this might be the inspiration for the first empty chair. An empty chair for someone who is missing. Beth. The other thought I had is that Daryl memory is so flawed in Find Me that the chair might be him combining those elements from the funeral home.
