Bruce slouched in his chair, one arm draped lazily over the backrest, his phone loosely balanced in his hand as he tapped play. A bright, familiar voice spilt from the speaker, disrupting the staid atmosphere of the boardroom.

"Okay, okay, so this is kinda funny—or, I mean, you probably won’t find it funny, but whatever—but today, I was running late for class because Wes was trying to explain some case study to me, and he’s so bad at explaining things, but, like, bless him, right? Anyway, I finally got to class, and Dr. Carson—you know, the science guy who acts like bow ties are his entire personality?—was already halfway through his lecture on...what was it? Something spleen-related, I think. But, oh my gosh, while I was trying to catch up, I realized I hadn’t eaten anything all day, and you know what happens when I’m hungry. So, after class, I ran into Wes again, and we grabbed sandwiches—he got turkey, obviously, because he’s so boring, but I got this weird veggie one because I was feeling adventurous. Big mistake. It tasted like grass, and not in a cool, healthy way. Anyway, long story short, I need, like, fifty bucks. I meant to ask earlier, but I got distracted. Okay, thanks, bye!"

The directors froze, their polished exteriors struggling to mask their confusion. Bruce leaned back even further, looking thoroughly unbothered.

"Your...daughter?" one of them ventured hesitantly.

"Not technically," Bruce replied with a faint smirk, spinning his phone between his fingers. "But close enough."

He opened the messaging app, his fingers moving across the screen with surprising precision. Despite his casual air, he always took the time to respond properly.

"Steph, you’ve got fifty in your account now. Next time, try asking before you’re hungry enough to experiment with questionable sandwiches, alright? And maybe keep some snacks on you—protein bars or something,and for the love of god, stop forgetting meals."

He sent the message and tossed his phone onto the table, loud enough to make one of the directors flinch. "Right. Where were we? Oh, yes—numbers, charts, and crushing the hopes and dreams of our compitions."

The directors exchanged weary glances but didn’t dare comment.

Meanwhile, Steph sprawled on her dorm bed, saw the notification pop up. She read the message, grinned to herself, and rolled her eyes, Then, as always, she didn’t reply.

Back in the boardroom, Bruce folded his hands behind his head, his expression as nonchalant as ever. Inside, however, there was a faint hum of contentment.

She’ll read it. She always does. She’s just stubborn.

Cass(10) She was found early in the family, she still isn't comfortable with talking, but she understands it almost all. And she finds Steph and Barbara when they get to the library, one for searching books that she likes so she learns to read and second to get her slowly into public spaces. She really admires Barbara, and she loves how Steph talks even if it's loud it feels like music to her

Barbara(16) she works in the library, that's where they are right now, and that's where they mostly hang out, she is the one who brings the bracelets to the girls so "they are always connected"

Steph(7) she is the one that talks the most in her hangouts and she doesn't mind bc she knows she is being listened to and being there is also a way to not be in the house when her dad is around (she was the one to make the little braid in Cass hair)

(Theoretical possible endgame)

“And how, exactly, did you all make it back here?” Bruce asks his children (children, not even all of them according to the Robins—Robins, that’s another thing that Bruce is going to blame his oncoming headache on. What were any of his future selves thinking?)

“A blood ritual,” Dick answers confidently.

“Alien cube,” Jason says at the same time, shrugging.

“Techno-magical chemical reaction,” Timothy says, raising his voice to be heard over the others.

“Iseki bullshit,” Stephanie & Damian say in perfect unison (as though that’s supposed to explain anything,) before turning to stare at eachother—also in perfect unison—with identical looks of shock. 

(Damian’s face splits into a wide smile as he holds out one hand. Stephanie glances at it, her lips pressed into a thin line, before passing Damian a quick low-five. They both flip their hands back up in fists to rap their knuckles against eachother.

“Hell yeah,” Damian whispers, his smile somehow even brighter than before. Stephanie’s mouth twitches and she gives Damian another tap.)

“…Of course,” Bruce says in the flat tone that only Dick should know means Bruce is utterly lost & out of his depth, but which has five mischievous sets of eyes sparkling at him.

there is not enough femslash in batcest circles. the girls deserve to be just as weird about each other as the boys are. if BruDick gets to be weird father/son/brothers/lovers/friends/rivals/soulmates then it is only fair that Babs/Cass get to be mother/daughter/sisters/lovers too. Something about that deep intrinsic but undefinable love that is born out of trauma, especially if you consider Cass not knowing what healthy love looks like in the first place. i think it's fun and deserves just as much fandom content.

besides that, you can get even more niche with rarepairs like Helena/Steph. Huntress/Spoiler: Blunt Trauma is already a fantastic comic and even though it's their only real canon interaction it has so much potential. very comparable to TimJay in how Helena tries to get Steph to understand her morals and the corruption you could play with it.

that comic also highlights on how both Steph and Helena are outcasts of the Batfamily and don't have the approval of Bruce to be doing what they do in "his city". I think there's so much Potential in Helena taking Steph under her wing because Bruce won't let her in and it becomes a weird codependent toxic sapphic mess. I think the protectiveness Helena feels over Steph from the get-go is so clear and the way she wants to look out for Steph, wants to make sure Steph understands the real world? I love them. Helena should be allowed to steal Steph, actually. I think it'd be fun.

there are a lot of other possibilities too like Babs/Steph or even getting weird with Helena Bertinelli/Helena Wayne and the existential question of "is it selfcest or not." But these two specifically live in my head rent-free, especially Helena/Steph and one day I'll convince everyone else to ship it too.

as someone who’s never liked timsteph i find it so funny that i just accidentally talked myself into a revrob au of them. revrob au where war games happens, steph (~15) gets captured & tortured, except this time tim (~16) comes in to try & help but due to [unforeseen circumstances] no one comes as backup, and they’re both tortured, leading to steph’s red hood era via being resurrected somehow by arthur brown and tim’s oracle era brought on via complications due to torture.

tim’s the one person steph won’t target, and steph’s the one person tim can’t really get angry with about killing, because they get it.

(Whoops my hand slipped and started writing a Batfam Umbrella Academy AU)

From the Personal Notes of Mr. Bruce Wayne:

00.01 - Ability to manipulate gravitational fields allows for advanced gymnastic and combat capabilities. A strong leader, the others look up to him. Loyal to a fault, but needs to be watched carefully. Will choose the other children over himself or me.

00.02 - Determined, focused, strong willed. Has learned to use her ability to analyze the surroundings and formulate a plan prior to attack. Unfortunately lacks any leadership qualities and fails to communicate these plans to the team, preferring to act alone. Still has much to learn, but is eager to do so. My favorite.

00.03 - Adequate marksmanship and proficiency with ranged weapons. Can hold his own in a fight but relies to heavily on his powers. Insolent, can not take instruction or direction. His recklessness will be his undoing.

00.04 - Development of photokinesis is hindered by his unwillingness to fully commit to manipulating shadows as well as light. Charming and a neutral leader. Should Number 1 ever fail, he would be the best choice to replace him.

00.05 - Connection to animals has yet to prove useful. Fighting skills and determination on par with Number 2, but is unpredictable at best. Refuses to admit when he doesn’t know something. Has no respect for anyone but himself.

00.06 - Still fails to reach the full potential of psychometry abilities. Refuses to accept the possibility that he may be able to see into the future as well as the past. Useful for research and not much else.

00.07 - No clear talents. Some enthusiasm for puzzles and mediocre problem solving abilities. To headstrong. Irritating.

Cool As I Think I Am Reprise kills me for a lot of reasons, but something that has been especially heart breaking for me is Pete's line of "One of us is in love, it doesn't take a detective." One of us is in love. It wouldn't have taken much for the line to be "The two of us are in love, it doesn't take a detective." It doesn't disrupt the flow of the lyrics. Which means that this is how Pete feels. He thinks only one of them is in love here, and considering his whole thing in this song is convincing Steph to kill him so she (and the rest of the world) will live, and those are not the actions of someone who isn't in love, he's talking about himself. Which makes me think that he doesn't think she loves him back. He thinks he's the only one in love here. Sure, he's what she wants the most, but that doesn't mean she loves him. He just knows that he loves her, and he's willing to die to save her, even if she doesn't love him back (which she does).

And just like that, Edward stopped everything he was doing - which just so happened to be him stealing a fabulous emerald he'd had his eye on for some months now. His gloved fingers were just inches, mere inches away from his coveted prize shimmering upon its bed of broken finery when she uttered those fated words, causing his head to snap straight in Spoiler's direction. Did she really just say that? After all the effort she had put into following his carefully-laid out clues? She did not just speak like an utter troglodyte after proving she had a modicum of intellect figuring out exactly how he'd intended to hit Gotham's Gem Rock Museum at precisely 2am in the morning! On Easter Monday of all days! Well, her attempt at trying to bother him worked because Edward scowled, his face the very picture of baffled bemusement and outright irritation. "Is this that... that caveman talk you teenagers are into these days? For shame. I had thought for just a moment you might be above the midwits in this city but clearly I was wrong." The emerald was quite forgotten, still lying inches away from his fingers but it was too late; the Riddler had been rattled, and by a teenager who thought it was funny to speak like a knuckle-dragger, no less! She was better than this. He expected better, and deserved it too!

chase: he considers skylar as the person he's closest to that isn't family or his partner. then oliver after her, then taylor and logan pretty equally. if we're adding his siblings/kaz in, it would go kaz, leo, adam/bree a sliver below leo, skylar, oliver, then taylor/logan

bree: bree's best friend is taylor. they don't see each other that much anymore but stay in constant contact :). her list with skylar and siblings included would go skylar, adam, leo/chase a sliver below adam, taylor, kaz, oliver, logan, plus some of her exes that she's still friends with (owen, jake, ethan, etc) she isn't friends with caitlin anymore because chase refuses to let her contact her lol (rightfully)

kaz: oliver/skylar (obviously lol). he's also really close to leo and his friends from school. his order would be chase, oliver, skylar a smidge below, jordan/gus, leo, bree, adam (he's friendly with taylor/logan but not friends)

I support the "Batman was unfairly biased to Stephanie for XYZ reasons" crowd so strongly bc DC claims that Bruce is a master planner who is able to understand anyone's psychology but he didn't realize that literally every single one of Steph's problems as a teenager would've been solved by her joining a shitty punk band.
