Jason: Thou looks and smells of an unwashed mutt of female persuasion and so does thy lover.
Steph: You’re a bitch and so’s your man.
Tim: …… Okay, but why’s he speaking like that?

Prompt 116
Give Battinson robins but it’s DCxDP style with ghosts.
His kids are… technically not from his world and technically not alive either, but that doesn’t stop him from adopting them. Even if he wasn’t aware of them being literal ghosts for the first few hours of encountering them.
How did they get here? Well, you see, sometimes child ghosts will run into each other, and they’ll form their own little friend groups. Or family groups. Especially if they lack a guardian. Who would tell them not to mess with natural portals.
Or to kidnap a phantom to play with them, but hey he’s enjoying himself too and has a puppy! The bestest boy!
Bruce was not prepared for some sort of energy-thing to open and spit out a good half a dozen children. Nor was he prepared for these children to all have powers, or for another child (thankfully a teen) to fall into the cave a few weeks later.

palatawan nerdy prudes! or, new current working title: hindi ako loser
image description and translations in the alt text!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
more palatawan lore under the cut. more palatawan (tagalog hatchetfield) stuff here!
the "suspenders and a bow tie" joke doesn't work anymore because filipino high schools have uniforms — i have a couple versions of that scene in mind, including one where i just acknowledge the joke doesn't work (the one in the drawing), or it becomes about his long hair (he'd get called gay for that, and not in a fun way), or the joke changes to how he still wears the uniform outside of school, and that's his attempt to avoid getting bullied
steph with her coloured hair and peter with his long hair are both dress code violations and it's kind of cute that they have that in common
steph gets away with it because her dad's the mayor

Daisy Chaining; Or, Connecting the TBR!
Does anybody besides me like to find Connections between Seemingly/Largely Unrelated Books and use those connections to plot a route through the old TBR?? I don't know about you, but I have a LOT of books I want to read, and sometimes I get Whelmed™ by my choices. So I'll either pick a small stack and make that a particular month's micro-TBR (good if I have specific Goals!), OR I'll start with something I really want to read, and I'll daisy chain from there.
For example: I'd been waiting for TRANSLATION STATE to release in paperback since the hardback was announced (because Translators, my beloveds). So I annihilated that in a couple days (it was very good, all right??), and then I had to figure out where to go next despite cruising on the Translators High.
Because the Translators' fucked up body horror (which I mean mostly affectionately, but I'm side eyeing the matching pretty hard) was at times....goopy...I thought a book about a shapeshifter whose default form is an amorphous lump would be good next, which got me to SOMEONE YOU CAN BUILD A NEST IN (which I also enjoyed!! shout-out to @asexualbookbird for gifting it to meee!!).
Since NEST is Monsters in a Fantasy Forest with a side of Politics and Power, my next read is THE BUTCHER OF THE FOREST (because it's also...wait for it...Monsters in a Fantasy Forest with a side of Politics and Power). And after that, I'll come OUT of the forest with AT THE EDGE OF THE WOODS, which promises to be weird and vaguely monstrous but with a literary bent (I put it on one of my writing TBR lists, and my general "read this by the end of 2024" list).
So, yeah! That's how you daisy chain to get from SF to fantasy/horror to fantasy to weird Lit Fic in the span of four (4) books, while maintaining something like a continuity. By the end of the year, my Books Read shelf looks a little chaotic, but there generally really is a rhyme AND a reason about it!
(Please click on the photo for better image quality! I edited it weirdly compared to usual and it looks good on my screen but ah. Less So, in tungledlandia.,.,)

[Translation] SPUR September 2023
Exclusive Interview with Stéphane Lambiel "About Love"
Stéphane Lambiel invites us into his beautiful musical world with his smooth skating and graceful ballet-like movements on the ice. He talks about his love and passion for skating, and everything in his life.
Looking back on his remarkable season as a coach.
Stéphane Lambiel came to Japan to perform in "Fantasy on Ice," the most prominent ice show in Japan. In the 2022-23 figure skating season, Japan's Shoma Uno, whom he coaches, won his second consecutive World Championships, and Koshiro Shimada won a silver medal at the All-Japan Championships. Latvia's Deniss Vasiljevs has also distinguished himself in the Grand Prix Series, so it has been smooth sailing for the coach.
"Shoma, Koshiro, and Deniss are not the only young talents sprouting up one after another. I want all the students at Champery (Switzerland) to grow. I hope my teaching will have a positive impact on their careers and lives. That's my number one goal right now."
After the Corona disaster, the international sports scene is slowly returning to its original state. This year, Stéphane organized a joint training camp in Kyoto with students from the Kinoshita Academy in Japan and Champéry.
"This is a good opportunity for the students to experience a different method from the one they are used to," said Stéphane. This time, we also made time for them to learn physical performance that is different from skating, such as yoga and dance lessons, not only on the ice. By learning new ways to use their bodies, they can feed back to their skating and improve their artistry. They were able to motivate each other, so I felt it was beneficial to share practice.
Today, Kinoshita is home to an elite group of figure skaters who are the future of figure skating.
"I was amazed by all the students. They are able to practice very meticulously while also maintaining their focus. If I had to name a few players that I personally pay attention to, I would say junior players Mao Shimada and Shunsuke Nakamura. I feel something special about them. Hana Yoshida knows her body well and has the ability to use it well."
About the challenges to tackle for the new season
During the training camp, Stéphane also choreographed new programs. He also said it was an opportunity to see the response from Uno, Shimada, and Vasilijevs.
"As for Koshiro, he will continue with his SP "Sing Sing Sing". For FS, he will perform a piano version of "Danse Macabre," choreographed by me. Denis performed his new SP "Hallelujah" for "Fantasy on Ice". This was his first time working with choreographer Shae-Lynn Bourne. It was a very innovative piece, and it took him some time to understand what she was trying to achieve. Then he practiced a lot, and made it his own. I will be choreographing the FS, which will be different from the atmosphere of the past. Please look forward to it.
Shoma has two programs for SP, and I think he is considering which one to use for the competition. One is by Shae-Lynn, and the other one is my creation. I think he will decide after skating both of them at the summer ice show. The SP I made will have a pretty challenging content. It will be divided into several parts, with a short intro to present the outline of the story, followed by a romantic and lyrical part, and then a dynamic change at the end. The unfolding is quite extreme, and I think it will be a very intense performance. I'm looking forward to seeing it at the show, too. For FS, I have proposed some songs, and the choreography will be done by Kenji Miyamoto."
This will be his third (sic) season as Uno's coach. Stéphane says he will do his best to support Uno, who has expressed his desire to improve his expressive side.
There are two wonderful things about Shoma," said Stéphane. One is the rich expressive power of his eyes and of his body movements as a whole. The other is his passion to control everything by himself. When he learns something new, his willingness to practice and make it absolutely his own is second to none. These two virtues have already made him a unique, one-of-a-kind skater. If he is looking for something more on top of that... from me, I think I can help him in terms of musicality. Of course he has musical sense, but I think he can deepen it even more. by refining his sensibility, he will be able to add more "umami", as they say in Japanese, to his performance, a taste that only he can bring out. I believe that the audience too will be able to sense something special from his performance.
Putting his love for his soulmate into his dance on the ice
Thirteen years after retiring from professional skating, Stéphane is now in his mature stage as a professional figure skater. The two performances at this year's Ice Show were truly musical works that moved the audience emotionally.
The first piece performed at Fantasy on Ice was the fourth movement of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5, Adagietto. My friend Beatrice Belieu(?), a musician, played the piano and made the arrangement. The second is "Simple song" from the soundtrack of the movie "Grand Finale" (2015). Adagietto was choreographed by Salome Brunner. In fact, the performance presented here is only a part of the whole. Champéry has a festival called "Rencontres Musicales de Champéry" (Encounters with Music), and next year I will be skating Adagietto with Beatrice, who will play live.
The adagietto by Maher, known in the 70's for the film "Death in Venice" and more recently as the key piece in the film "TAR" (2022), is a classic. The sweet and dramatic tune is linked with a personal story.
Mahler's Adagietto was written with love as its theme. Through this song, I wanted to express the various stages of love that I have experienced. It begins with the meeting of two people, the period of burning love that brings them together as one, and then the period when there are discrepancies in the relationship. After overcoming these difficulties, they feel comfortable with each other, and then they rediscover each other as if they had met anew, even though they are the same person. The first meeting and the last meeting have different meanings, and their love evolves. When I skate to this song, I envision in my mind's eye a very rich relationship with the person I am now living with, my soulmate. There is actually a subtle twist to this performance. I thought of it with Salome, it has the same movement at the beginning and the end, but in reverse. With that movement, I expressed the evolution of the relationship and the sense of distance that is created.
He devised the choreography for 'Simple song' with his colleagues at Champéry. It is an insert song for the movie, sung wistfully by Korean opera singer Sumi Jo.
I had heard this song by chance before I saw the movie, and I thought it was a great song. I rediscovered it after watching the film, and then chose it. The personal theme of this film is growing older. Considering my own career, I am slowly approaching the limits of my physical capabilities, and I don't think I will be able to skate for much longer in the future. Still, there is a part of me that wants to skate forever. So when I am skating to this song, I express myself to the fullest as my performance, and I hope that it will be forever. *Adagietto and Simple Song both incorporate movements that require quite a bit of physical endurance, since I have to stand on one point of the edge of my skates and hold it for a long time. The goal is to achieve a noble movement despite being forced to exert that kind of control. Although I feel pleasure in being able to be in control, there are also times when I feel fragility and danger in front of the audience. It's a very lovely moment."
At this year's Fantasy on Ice, fellow skater Johnny Weir retired.
We get together every year in early summer for the show, and the performers are like family. I've talked about that with Johnny, too. It's sad to retire from the ice show, but I think it's also a positive thing. I can't speak for him, but I think he would like to do another project in his life. We have promised that we will spend time together again somewhere. Maybe a private vacation! Sometimes I think about my last show myself. I haven't made up my mind yet.
Despite being involved in a variety of activities, you are still passionate about skating. What is the source of your motivation?
I think it has something to do with the fact that I have matured, and when I aim for my best performance, I want to express myself in the most natural way. My personality is lyrical and romantic, so I often get inspiration from watching that kind of movies or from stage music. Music shakes up emotions from a deep place inside of me, and pushes to the surface the life force within. I can skate by borrowing the energy of the song. As I feel that, I guess that maybe I can perform better, with a sense of unity."

hiii!
do you remember my ask from a while ago about letting someone translate my stories and publish them on ao3?
anygays... i decided to decline. i always feel kinda rude about this but on the other hand... it is my story, you know? it's me who thinks all about the plots, how the characters will react, who rereads the stories 3-15 times and edits it to perfection...
am i being a bit selfish because of this? maybe. i do feel kinda bad about it tbh, but my biggest argument is that i write it in english, mostly so people from all around the world can read my stories, because most people know this universal language.
well i don't wanna be annoying. i just wanted to share this.
(they wanted to translate all my little "johnlock short stories", btw :] )
thank you for... everything!
love and hugs,
turtely 🐢
(referencing this post)
Hi Turtely!!
LOVELY!! First off, NOT ANNOYING!! I love people coming here just to chat with me, keep me updated on their lives and just generally need some validation. Lord knows I need it, LOL.
Secondly, you had every right to decline; it is YOUR story and if you're not comfortable with it being translated, that's okay and not rude at all!! You're allowed to feel a certain way about your work, and you're definitely not the only author to feel that way *HUGS*
Finally, a promotion of your work for others to enjoy!
Turtely's Johnlock Short Stories by topsyturvy_turtely (M, 19,998+ w. across 9 works || Series WiP || Assorted Tags, Various Genres) – These are stories that are whole on their own. One chapter stories. I mostly write Fluff, sometimes Angst, never Smut (and if not graphic). I might include some Johnlock poems.
====
Everyone go give these stories some love, and again, Lovely, don't feel bad for not wanting them translated! <3

"You're trying so hard to make sense of people like me, aren't you? I can see it in your eyes when we talk. It's a piercing stare you've got, Stephanie. You're looking for something. Watching intently. Some it, I assume, is just wariness toward someone like me. But I think you're trying to understand me even though you don't. Not yet at least." A smirk crosses his lips. Given their last talk, Thad was willing to give a real shot to get to know her, to talk to her without his own usual defensiveness, to answer her questions if she had any, and maybe they actually could be civil acquaintances or even friends. He didn't know what would happen in the future, but he was willing to open the door to any possibility that came their way.
He smiles at her, "I see it though and I appreciate that."
"Though you know putting aside all the hero and villain stuff..." He adds, "At my very harmless core I'm just a guy who likes gossip and I think you should tell me all the dirt you've got on Tim." He flashes a grin and laughs. The speedster knew he wouldn't get any, but it was fun to joke around and try, "Or at least shit talk villains and/or heroes with me. I think at the least it'd be fun." Now as for that? He was serious about that.

Headcanon: Despite being compared a lot and having some major similarities i background, Stephanie & Jason have wildly different temperaments. They'd certainly get along under better circumstances, but prior to Jason becoming Red Hood, it'd very much be a "Stephanie lifts mace" - Jason says Not yet Steph." situation.

I think it would be fun if Dick and Jason had a podcast called Orphaned or something. Same vibes as The Basement Yard, but with more guests. Mostly their family. Tim is the most frequent, followed by Steph, then Bruce.
I like them bickering and being brothers on camera. And Bruce is there surprisingly often just cause he likes to see and talk to his boys. Dick and Jay both joke that they only have him on to rake in the views, but genuinely like the talks they have. It even translates into off camera stuff because Bruce realizes how easy it is to talk about mundane stuff and not about cases.
One scene I can’t get out of my head is them reminiscing about the first time they met.
Dick: ugh, you pissed me off so much…
Jason: wha- How?? I was literally eight! What did I do??
Dick: You just waltzed right in and got adopted while I was still just a fucking ward!!
Jason: How is that my fault?? I didn’t force Bruce to adopt me!
Dick: I know that now! It just pissed me off at the time, I was still just a teenager!
Jason: You’re adopted now though, right.
Dick: Yeah… but sometimes I wish I wasn’t
Jason: Why? Because this family is fucking bonkers?
Dick: No because I could hold that over Bruce’s head for so long.
Jason: Oh yeah, you could milk that.
Dick: I’d milk it so hard.

hi, steph 💚
i have a question as a fic writer.
some people have asked me if they can translate my story/stories. i am always pretty hesitant about that because i have had bad experiences with piracy...
so i am not sure what i am asking here but, maybe you could tell me what other people do?
thank you!
- an overwhelmed turtle 🐢
Hey Lovely! *HUGS*
It's all good, never hesitate to ask questions like that here, since I do have a fair number of authors who check back here once in awhile! :)
That said, it's a personal choice / decision if you want your work translated or not, and if the person offering is offended that you say "no"? That's their problem, not yours! It's PERFECTLY okay to not be comfortable with it, and it's also okay if you ARE okay with it! There is no right answer, and it varies by author. For ME, I'm okay with translations as long as I am made aware of it and am then credited with the original. Translations are super neat on AO3, since the original story is the "parent" story, and can then be linked to the other translations (I am not 100 on how that works since none of my AO3 works have ever been translated, but I imagine it's an option the translator has to select on their end).
So yeah, if you're not okay with it right now, it's totally okay to say that "I am uncomfortable with it, I am sorry". And, when the time comes that you will be okay with it, no harm done.
I'm not sure what else to really say other than validate you in your feelings (especially in this age of BS AI stealing content) *BIG HUGS*, and ask if any authors have any suggestions for you <3
