FOSSIL FRIDAY: STEGOSAURUS
Stegosaurus, the "roof lizard" is by far the best dinosaur and that is a fact not my heavily biased opinion.
It was discovered by Arthur Lakes in Morrison, Colorado
and named by your boy, Marsh.
Originally, poor Marsh believed Stegosaurus to be some sort of turtle-like animal which is where the name originated from.
This is one of the first dinosaurs we learn as kids due to the recognizability of the plates and spikes.
(this comic is far too relatable haha)
Stegosaurus was over 20ft long and weighed several tons.
It had a small skull with small, triangular teeth in the back of its mouth for grinding. There were no teeth in the front of the mouth which was probably covered by a keratinous beak.
Stegosaurus had around 10 cervical (neck), 17 dorsal (back), 4 sacral (hips), and 46 caudal (tail) vertebrae. The dorsal verts were stretched and the caudal neural spines began to bifurcate (split) halfway down the tail.
They have three toes on their back feet and five toes on their front feet.
The most recognizable parts are, of course, the plates and spikes. Both of these are highly specialized osteoderms (bony cored scales) similar to modern crocs.
The largest plates were over the hips and were up to 24 in (60cm) wide and tall. The function of the plates has been hotly debated for a very long time. I even wrote a paper about it in one of my paleo classes in college. There are blood vessels running throughout the plates which make them pretty poor for physical defense. However, they would potentially be ideal for flushing blood into and changing the color just like modern lizards.
This could be used for aggressive behaviors, male to male warnings or to warn predators to back off. The plates could certainly make a Stegosaurus look larger than it really was. Now, that doesn't mean they were completely without protection. A study done in 2010by Christensen and Tschopp found skin impressions on Hesperosaurus plates and determined it probably had a keratin sheath over the plates making them stronger. Another possible use of the plates was thermoregulation. They could have dumped excess heat the way cattle horns or duck bills do today.
Then, there's the thagomizer. The word actually came from a Far SIde comic and paleontologists liked it so much we just sort of...adopted it.
And can you believe there's actually been debate over whether they actually used them?
Robert Bakker believed the tail was flexible enough (despite the argument that the plates would make this impossible) to be a weapon due to a lack of ossified tendons seen in other dinosaurs to stiffen the tail. He also said that the front legs were muscular enough to allow it to deftly swivel it's back half threateningly. McWhinney and others did a study that showed high incidence of trauma-related damage to the tail and spikes implying they were, in fact, used as a weapon. Plus, there is an Allosaurus caudal with a puncture that a Stegosaurus spike would fit into snuggly.
There are two, possibly three species of Stegosaurus: S. ungulatus, S. stenops, and S. sulcatus. The first is probably just a synonym of S. stenops and S. sulcatus is likely an entirely different genus. Only time and more data will tell.
S. sulcatus...which looks nothing like the others.
My absolute favorite thing about Stegosaurus is...well, there two things. First, one specimen was found with throat armor which is just freaking cool.
Second, baby stegos are called steglings. Freaking STEGLINGS. How damn cute is that?
We have found a Stegosaurus tooth at the Evil Tree Bonebed and I really hope we find the animal. A baby would let me die happy. Want to help me find a Stegosaurus? Come join us this summer at CNCC for our summer field program. Check out the link below.

OKAY BUT THIS PIECE IS ACTUALLY THE REASON I WENT THROUGH WITH GIVING THE WORMS LEGS-
I was originally planning on having the disassemblers' weapons come out of their wings but it uh- wasn't cooperating 💀
I had already been thinking about adding legs to their designs but this was the first time I actually tried drawing it

Javelia has a pet stegouros (Funny lil ankylosaur that's basically a tiny ankylosaurus with stego spikes instead of a club) named Waffles. Waffles is from the Dino Charge dimension and he's there purely bc of some dimensional shenanigans. Waffles will appear whenever they're about to do something stupid.
Waffles also is besties with baby pacha (bc in my version of canon she survived bc fuck zayto. i hate the baby killer) Waffles and Baby Pacha have tea parties on the regular.
Oh my god, I LOVE that, it's so cute!!

If the Dino Fury Zords could talk:
T-Rex Champion: The dad friend in need of caffeine
Tricera Blade: Dory from Finding Dory in Triceratops form
Ankylo Hammer: Mentality of a five year old, bratty little sister, throws out the most weirdly specific insults.
Tiger Claw: ADHD incarnate, likes running
Stego Spike: The first tsundere on earth
Mosa Razor: gossiper, nobody knows what his ammonites are? S/Os? Children? Drones?
Ptera Freeze: Snooty lil weirdo
Dimetro Blazing: Hyperfixation
Light Raptor: Weird Uncle who just got out of jail
Shadow Raptor: Wine Aunt who lets you take a sip of her wine.
Pacha Smash: war veteran mom
And this is why the morphin masters threw that asteroid😭 they were scared of a 15 season Dino sitcom

HEADCANON YEET
Not only does Amelia only eat the bread’s crust, she eats French Fries sideways, says the most random shit and wakes Javi in the middle of the night to say the most concerning and/or disturbing things known to man, eats oyster shells but not the insides, sleep screams instead of snores, chirps like an Ankylosaurus, and always aims for the ankles for the pun.
Javi and Amelia are not allowed to babysit baby zords due to an incident with Baby Pacha involving a screwdriver, a wig, a jar of peanutbutter, a dictionary, and a very rude bird.
Javi once called his Stego Spike Zord a tsundere. Let’s say it did not end well.
If the destruction of the DinoHenge statues caused the souls of the dinosaurs to be released and said souls end up using the rangers as vessels, then Javi gets an instinct to “mark his territory” the Stegosaurus way, which is to use your tail spikes to scratch up tree bark, so this leads to Javi occasionally being found VERY INTENSELY rubbing his lower back against a wall or tree or whatever surface in an attempt to please said instinct. Walls are fine. Trees hurt. Amelia however, ends up being very finicky when it comes to her stomach and chest, as those are the most vulnerable parts of an Ankylosaurus’ body, so any physical with those areas will not lead to good things.
Amelia nearly had a panic attack when she found out pizza scissors were a thing a
HEADCANONS!!!!! I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!
OKAY SO YES I AGREE, Amelia just eats anything and everything. Like she wouldn't go for the middle of the bread, "no, that's way too soft." while eating the crusts. Same for Pizza. Javi is the most vanilla foodie in the universe, so while Amelia's chomping on chilli potatoes he's just sitting next to her with a carton of milk. It does make sense, because of course, they're complementary to each other :333 but yeah. Javi IS horrified every time he sees her eat anything out of the ordinary.
It ALL makes sense when they find out she's rafkonian btw.
THEIR FIRST DATE NIGHT AMELIA ATE OYESTER SHELLS AND JAVI ALMOST FAINTED because boy cannot even stomach NORMAL oyesters.
Javi also sleeps like a dead man and nothing can wake him up at night, so he always makes sure to fall asleep BEFORE Amelia, rather than after, just so he can have a peaceful sleep. Despite her sleep screaming.
....I’m curious to know what the very rude bird did, and if the screwdriver ended inside someone's ear or not.
Stego Spike can tolerate being called anything from Javi. just not a tsundere. Ankylo zord also calls him a tsundere. It's become a running joke and Stego spike HATES Javi for it.
Stego brained Javi... hmm.... does he scratch against Amelia too?? :D Also Amelia would definitely kiss all the scars on his back which leads to more shenanigans, so despite the bleeding Javi actually loves it (yes ive been reading twisted games DON'T @ ME). AND YES no mater what anyone says, Amelia is going to let Javi touch her most sensitive things. Belly rubs and soft kisses are order of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!
...Javi brought home the pizza scissors. he's a chef. Amelia started using it to cut everything. according to her, it looks very anime fox like.

These are quite literally the cutest zords I've ever seen.
My redesigns of the main five Dino fury zords!
In depth stuff under the cut
-I wanted to make them all more human, per say(?) By that I mean, these are pretty headcanon-y so they can talk and are a found family now :3
-T-Rex Champion-
-The dad of the group
-Full. Of. Anxiety. It’s honestly and sadly obligatory bc Tiger is so freaking excited 24/7 then Ankylo and Tricera have some unresolved anger issues
-He is pretty quiet most of the time and very untrusting to those he doesn’t know
-Has small and comfy feathers running across his back, very cuddleable and gets kneaded by Tiger Claw while he’s asleep
-Has a scar on the other side of his face. Decided that just as I wrote this.
-Misses the original blue, pink, green, and black Rafkon rangers a lot, but approves of Ollie, Amelia, Javi, and Izzy a lot.
-His wear and tear has caused him to break down in his cooling and hydration systems, causing him to need water, a lot. The bath in salt water during the episode “Ancient History” caused him to dehydrate immensely.
-Very loyal to Zayto.
-Knows a lot about Cretaceous flora and fauna
-Legitimately said “Five hundred more years…” when he was deployed out in episode 2.
-Tricera Blade-
-Angy
-Very angy
-Very very angy
-Cause she and Ankylo are tiny, therefore closer to hell and have too much rage to store in their tiny bodies
-Likes blueberries a lot
-Knows too much about the creepier and grosser side of biology
-Thinks Ollie is too rigid
-Has tested multiple drones and VR sets to try to make Ankylo Hammer some kind of way to come with Amelia to a haunted mansion without-
DECIMATION!
-Only fears one thing, that is waking T-Rex up early.
-Wishes she could eat and drink stuff cause of what she heard about coffee.
-Unaware that zords can eat and drink stuff.
-Definitely doting older sister of the group.
-Always has good advice. Except on romance.
-Knows nothing about romance. At ALL.
-Ankylo Hammer-
-Thinks humans are adorable
-Just as angy as Tricera
-Likes to drink tea whenever Tricera isn’t watching
-Has considered convincing Mosa Razor (Who’ll probably be featured in a part two of this post if I do one) to help prank the rangers into believing the Dino Keys have flavors to them.
-A prankster
-Has to be physically held back by Stego when Amelia goes to investigate anywhere paranormal, because like earlier said place with be-
DECIMATED!
-Legitimately wonders why they don’t send out the zords and just step on the monsters
-Likes to nom on fossilized wood
-petrified wood is basically a chew toy for her
-Fears sloths and babies
-Her wear and tear has caused her to be less compatible combination wise with zords other than Dinosaur based ones
-Has PTSD. All of them do I guess. They’re all basically war veterans
-Tiger Claw-
-The communal little brother
-Banned from Twitter.
-The one time Izzy let him see Twitter, the Zord bay got filled with glitter, black censorship bars, and angry pillows.
-Also banned bc he said “UWU Hewwo daddy~!💖😻✨” yes he did. Including the emojis.
-All the zords were terrified by this. Except Baby Pacha who tried to rip his lance off bc she didn’t get any yogurt at exactly 2:30 PM.
-Had to have a memory wipe of the past three hours after the Twitter incident and Izzy was grounded for a week from the Zord Bay to cause of it.
-95% of his impulse control is Stego.
-Cause of this, half of Pine Ridge and Greenley Forest were wrecked when Stego was being fixed after a battle for more than thirty minutes
-Likes to watch the rangers train, but scares the shit out of them every time because a pair of giant black cat eyes staring at you is honestly terrifying.
-Cuddly af. Likes to knead T-Rex when he’s asleep.
-Pretty possessive of his family sometimes.
-Gives pretty bad romantic advice. Ruined one of Izzy’s dates with Fern
-Stego Spike-
-Goth cousin
-Thinks Javi is annoying and an idiot but secretly likes his music.
-Once gave Javi one of his loose spikes as a birthday gift.
-Hates Warden Garcia’s guts. Unsurprisingly has multiple murder plots.
-Has stolen eyeshadow from Amelia and Ollie. Surprised Ollie has so much more eyeshadow than Amelia.
-Hates small animals
-Wear and tear has caused him to feel immense pain when exposed to electromagnetic radiation and fields.
————————
I made most of the headcanons myself, but some were brainstormed with a friend :)

so uh, here's my ideas for "classes" of zords. Nanozord Class - Tiny. super freaking tiny. usually around the size of a person, little bigger, little smaller. examples include Stenny, Sino, and Anzu, POSSIBLY Ric in SPD? Minizord Class - the size of a small house, does not form a limb on the megazord, but becomes a weapon, think the littol guys that came out of the chest of the Storm Megazord in Ninja Storm. Superfluous Class - Any small or medium-small zord that looks hastily slapped onto the megazord IE the Dino Thunder Pterazord or Eagle Wildzord in Wildforce.
Attacker, Defender, Speedster, & Bruiser Class - mid size zord, usually forms a limb on the megazord, highly diverse. some examples include Akaina Wrecker zord (Bruiser, PRPG), Shark Wildzord (Speedster, Wildforce), Stego Spike zord (Defender, Dino Fury), Parazord (Attacker, Dino Thunder) Leader Class - big. very big. usually forms the bulk of a megazord, usually only reds or sixths' zords, there are exceptions like the Lion Zord in Ninja Storm or the Minotaur Mystic Titan in Mystic Force. Some examples include Tyrannozord (Dino Thunder), Claw Zord (Samurai), and the Dragonzord (MMPR1) Titan Class - colossal. utterly colossal. some examples include, Brachiozord (Dino Thunder), Tor The Shuttlezord (MMPR2), Pyramidas (Zeo), Serpenterra (MMPR3)
omg this is so fucking cool
i love this classification

Fanmade Boneysaur concepts.
Hot Take but there really wasn't enough boneysaurs in FFC, tons of animal design niches were missed out on and they didn't even make an Earth type so the type balancing was hella off with these guys. So hey, figured I'd doodle some of my own to rectify a few of the issues I had with the diversity in the group.
First up is B-Pachy, a Mid-Range Earth attribute Vivosaur based on the original Pachy, with some extra spikiness that almost makes it a 'Dracorex' proxy (since we almost defo ain't getting a Dracorex vivosaur given its lumping into the Pachycephalosaurus genus and 'Stygimoloch/P. Spinifier' species). He gives off Dry Bones vibes with his face and I really dig that, makes them unintentionally kinda endearing tbh.
B-Breme, a Mid-Range Fire attribute Vivosaur, is a funky little fellow, designed to looks more like an actual Alvarezsaur compared to base Breme, but with the exaggerated features some of the other Boneysaurs have (Sorry B-Rex, you're not the only Boneysaur with Dracula fangs anymore.) I imagine this dude would be fairly miniscule compared to the other Boneysaurs and therefor even less health than usual (which is saying a lot), but would have nasty FP stealing and Poison moves to compensate.
B-Stego, a Close-Range Air attribute, is a no-brainer as far as fanmade Boneysaurs go. Gave this one lunar looking plates, which would probably look really nice alongside B-Ptera's giant moon crest, maybe in another timeline this was one of Don Boneyard's signature vivosaurs too? Oh and BTW, the neck armor on Stegosaurs is really underappreciated, had to sneak that in the design too. (I actually nearly made a B-Kentro instead cus of the extra side spikes, but ended up doing Stego since it feels more like something the FFC devs would have actually made.)
That's all for now, still got a few concepts for other Boneysaurs that I might draw eventually, as well as a ton of original vivosaur ideas that I wanna try, so I'll definitely be posting more of these soon.

Regional, mascot?
I forgot to post yesterday I was working on schoolwork and chaining in doodle world sowwy ;w;
I also slept for most of the day school killed me today so I'm only posting one line. However, it's a long one, so buckle up
The format of these older images is awful but to be honest I would still do it like this in the present day: it's the most information in one place as possible and is convenient when just generally sharing information. But when I'm TRYING TO DO A COOL THING AND GIVE THE MASCOT THEIR SPOTLIGHT- hhhhhh regardless, this is Sqishgo and Lorimato! Sqishgo is not based on any one particular species in particular, while Lorimato is based off of the Loricatosaur! (if only because it made the name work better lol).
Lorimato is pretty obviously based on the classic tomato pincushion, with the idea being that its pins get pushed further into its body and pop out of the other side as full spikes! It's honestly one of my favorite designs for how simple but effective it is.
Sqishgo, meanwhile, is based on both stressballs and literal marketable plushies. They are stupid and dumb and me and my friend that I do this with love them. Sqishgo has undergone literally ZERO design changes, not even in name: their very first sketch was made in five minutes and my friend called it absolutely perfect. The only thing you could get Sqishgo on changing around is it's evolutions, which is a doozy of a story.
Ok so to start, Sqishgo and Loricato originates from when me and my paleo-friend who i do this with were JUST starting to be friends and JUST started drawing digitally, let alone drawing fakemon, so communication and understanding of each other was shaky.
also i found a unique glimring while writing this and passively chaining for unique fluffi I hate it here
Ok, anywho, Sqishgo was original supposed to evolve from a normal type stegosaur into a large and armored grass/steel type stegosaur, to which my friend sent this concept that they had made and had been sitting in their gallery for years prior:
I know that I shouldn't be putting down people who are trying their best at making art, but I have known them for a few years now and I have been the only one drawing for their region idea, a lot of the time TO THIS DAY they don't have anything more to a concept other than "base creature" + "typing" + "name" and the actual design is all on me. With that said, I feel justified to say that there's a reason I keep saying "paleo-friend I do this with" instead of "paleo-friend I work with".
Even disregarding the very amateur art and acknowledging that I can have a bias to my own designs, I do not like this design concept: stegosaur with leaf plates works perfectly fine, plays off of their biology even, but there is SO LITTLE to this design that it's just infuriatingly boring to me, and my friend wanted it as-is with as little changes as possible. It's not anything more complicated than "just a normal stegosaur with leaf plates in armor", and its not stupidly simple enough to be endearingly hilarious, like flamigo or dudunsparce.
So as I was designing Sqishgo, I mentioned playing further off of the stressball idea and making it in a pincushion, and since I had expressed disapproval for the above design and my friend didn't put up much of a fight against the idea, I went with it and completed Lorimato's design as a replacement to the "armored stegosaur" evolution
As it turns out, my friend thought that Lorimato WAS Sqishgo, and was VERY against Lorimato replacing the armored stego. This resulted in a large argument that, to be honest hasn't fully resolved itself when talking about designing the fakemon for this region.
I didn't want a big fight and I still wanted to be friends with them, so
I did both
This is Ramparmatus, which takes the steel typing from Lorimato and gives it grass as well. Playing off of this type-borrowing, it's evolutionary method is just a more complicated method of evolving Lorimato. Don't worry, if this ever becomes an actual game we'll put in an npc who will gives hints as to how to evolve Sqishgo.
My thoughts about thisssssss are the same as the original concept image. The beetlejuice-scary-face head is doing a LOT of footwork keeping this from being my least favorite design in the dex by a mile (instead it's just my least favorite design by a couple hundred yards). Hopefully, this caters to an audience who jut wants a big cool-looking tank, god knows I'm not in it.
Also I recognize I gave its horizontally swinging tail a vertical axehead these are old and I haven't updated them I'm sorry be nice to meeeeeeeee
Luckily, this doesn't have to end on a sour note
This is Barribarbs! A grass/poison kentrosaurus, it's the hardest one to get out of any of Sqishgo's evolutions, and as such borrows the grass type from Ramparmatus. This guy was originally supposed to be one of Sqishgo's 2 evolutions with Ramparmatus before the miscommunication occurred and Lorimato got added on. They are also more loyal to their marketable plushie origins: they're based on images of long abandoned plushies becoming overrun and interwoven with plant-life, most notably the infamous "Murby".
The general concept for this design is a kentrosaur with an evergrowing, spiky bramble tail that it wraps around its body to become a living bramble patch, and I frankly love this guy so much for it. The pokedex entry is also one of my personal favorites, just for the implication that every shiny Barribarbs is a serial murderer who will kill again.
While I don't like Ramparmatus, I don't think that after all of this I would get rid of it: it represents my friend, who despite me bitching and moaning about them in this project, I only dislike in this project. They are still my friend outside of it, and I love them all the same in that regard.
Also because Ramparmatus is so self-indulgent of a design for my friend I get to make my own self-indulgent designs which you all will see later >:3
Sorry for the venting and long post lol. Also I'm going to start tagging these posts with "gändvita region" now so I can more easily organize yippie :3

The Crazy Pachy Lady
If someone asked me what my favourite dinosaur is (...and not what my favourite prehistoric animal is, therefore forcing me to choose from just Dinosauria...), I'd have to say it's probably Pachycephalosaurus.
After taking the group shot I realized I had forgotten to include my De Agostini Pachy. She's made of such a cheap and flimsy rubber that she can't stand on her own.
Pachys weren't that popular among dino toy producers when I was a kid. Well, there were many dinosaurs that I saw plenty of pics of in my dinosaur books but saw in toy form rarely. Crested hadrosaurs (with the exception of Paras that you did see occasionally). Orhithomimids. Small noodly carnivores like Compys. And Pachys. I've always loved their dragon-like skulls, there's just something majestic about them and I find them more interesting than the Big Four that you see most often in dino toys (the Big Four being large carnivores, sauropods, Trikes and Stegos). It wasn't until the Jurassic Park sequel introduced Pachys in Lost World, that Pachy toys started to become more popular.
These two were the only Pachy toys I had as a kid. I was very disappointed with the green one, because it looked nothing like the pictures in my books, it's bald head has barely any crown of spikes around it and in general, it looked pretty awful. But for the longest time it was the only Pachy in my toy box. Then one christmas I received the brown toy on the left. I call her Patchouli.
Dino Riders were an big part of my childhood and I will be eventually writing more about them, both about the toy line and the series. But for now, I want to talk about Patchouli. I loved Dino Rider toys, with their beautiful glass eyes the animals looked more lifelike and less "monstrous" than many of the dinosaur toys in my toy box. The second series of toys introduced the Pachy and I wished it for christmas. I have forgotten about many toys I received as gifts but few stand out and I remember so vividly teh moment of opening the box with Patchouli and seeing her through the clear plastic window of her packaging.
Patchouli remains to this day my favourite Pachy toy. I love her colours, her noble-looking golden eyes, her beautiful stubby horns, I love how much she resembles the illustrations in my childhood books, the pictures that I admired but could never have in toy form until that christmas. I also like that unlike many newer Pachy toys, her feet are pretty small and she still balances just fine even when lowered into a headbutting pose. There are way too many new Pachy toys out there with enormous clown feet just to make them stand. The only thing that seems a bit odd about Patchouli is her tail, which is flat like a beaver's. I think it must be designed so in order to balance the weight so that she can stand in balance even when she's wearing her armor.
Now, after talking about the most beautiful Pachy toy I own, I must also talk about the ugliest one.
Demon Pachy will eat your soul!
I call her Glasya-Labolas, after my favourite Goetic demon. I don't usually buy large dino toys, I prefer the smaller ones that are easier to scale with one another and store. But when I saw Glasya-Labolas for sale on eBay, I had to get her.
Who designed this thing? Why are her eyes blood-red? Why is her throat covered in blood? Why does she remind my wife of E.T.? I don't know. But in all of her hideousness I can't help but like her. I imagine my Pachy herd summoning this demonic Pachy in the dark of the night, praying for protection against carnivores.

since I know you like lalalopsy dolls, what kinda design would you do if you could make one yourself?
Yes I absolutely adore the lalaloopsy dolls and I've been sitting on this ask for a while but there are many lalaloopsy dolls that cover many different themes and varieties, but if I could make one myself then the design would be along the lines of something dinosaur themed like I did a quick look of some of the dolls and I'm surprised they didn't make one because how wild some of the dolls can be!
Reason why I decided on dinosaurs is because I really loved them a lot when I was little and so I'd make a lil dinosaur loving doll, Her name would be Dino Digs and have four little friends named pokey, spiny, bitey, and twiggy plus she loves learning about dinosaurs and other creatures of the past and always curious to know more about the world around her along with having a very active imagination! She'd probably be sewn from a quilted fabric since its reminds me of scales kind of and day she would be made on June 1st as it's dubbed "dinosaur day". The hair and outfit wouldn't be anything too crazy, like the hair would be curled or kind of a soft spikey look with little dinosaur bone hair clips here and there along with the outfit consisting of a jacket with dino tail with spikes and claws on the sleeves with pants with some lil quilt "scales" scatter about and dino boots or maybe a dino pair of overalls as an alternative outfit! But the iconic thing of the doll would be her hats as they would be interchangeable and reflect her lil dino friends she has like she has stego,t-rex,tricera,and brachio one but her favorite one has to be the stego one!
Oops might've gotten a bit carried away sorry its a tad long but thanks for the ask bun!
