"The Food Is Wrong!"- a "When Only We're Around" short story
*I completely forgot to post this here, sorry*
(1 month post-movie)
"We will both be having the steaks. But make sure that his has the chips, vegetables, and steak not touching. Okay? He doesn't do well with the foods touching." Emiliano instructs the waiter, Elliot washed with embarrassment over his particular request, not leaning forwards until the waiter had returned to the kitchen.
"God. Why am I so finicky?" Elliot slaps his head in exasperation.
"This restaurant offers alterations, or the waiter would of mentioned it when I made the order. They shouldn't get mad when a customer wants an alteration." Emiliano assures him, then leans back, sipping on a glass of coke.
"Still... I feel entitled when asking. Couldn't we have gone to a McDonald's or Hungry Jack's?"
"Elliot. This is date night. On date night, we go to fancy restaurants. This dinner is like $150 so we better enjoy it."
Elliot fidgets, tapping the fork next to him repeatedly. Humming the song they had wrote the weekend they fell in love.
"So, were you able to get anyone at school to join your band?" Emiliano asks, placing thier hand on Elliot's to stop the fidgeting.
"A few people seemed interested. But a band ran by an autistic druggie isn't the easiest sell."
"Well then, that is thier loss. You are the best vocalist in all of Perth. They would be nothing without you."
"I'm glad that you believe that. But you are biased, because you want me to be in a good mood so you can fuck me tonight? Right?"
"Elliot?! That's a bit vulgar for a high class establishment."
"It's not my fault I get laid more than these uptight businessmen."
"2 steaks both medium well?" A waitress asks, holding thier meals.
"Yes, thats our order. Thank you." Emiliano responds, whilst the waitress puts thier plates in front of them.
Emiliano begins to eat his food, before looking over to Elliot with concern.
"You okay babe?" They ask, before looking down to Elliot's plate. Realising why he had fallen silent.
"Everything is touching." Elliot says, scratching at his arm. "Why is it all touching! It's not supposed to. It's all wrong!" By this point Elliot has become visibly in panic.
"Please tell your friend to calm down or you will both be removed from this establishment!" A waiter demands, rushing to thier table, which every other table is now looking to.
"My Boyfriend, thank you very much! We specifically asked for his steak, chips and veggies to not be touching each other. He has sensory issues. You ignored our simple request. Now he's having a meltdown and getting blames for it!?" Emiliano complains frustrated that they are getting blamed.
"We do not allow requests like that? The waiter says, baffled at Emiliano's insistence that alterations were allowed.
"When I made that order, our waiter made no mention of that. If alterations aren't allowed we should if been told that while MAKING the alteration. It wasn't even really an alteration either. It's just changing the arrangement of what was already on the fucking plate!" Emiliano continues, ranting about the ease of not having the foods touch, how it is ableist to not allow such a small inclusion.
"The textures they are wrong! They aren't the same! They shouldn't touch!" Elliot continues, getting louder each sentence.
"C'mon Ell. Let's just go get Macca's. At least they know how to alter a fucking meal."
~~~~~~~~~20 mins later (at McDonald's)~~~~~~~~
"I made a fool out of myself, Em. I was screaming!? Hurting myself?! I must of looked like an entitled baby." Elliot mopes, eating a 20 pack of McNuggets.
"No, babe, they were in the wrong. It was a simple request for accessibility reasons, and they were too uppity to respect that. That didn't deserve the $150 I spent."
"Can we have an extra long cuddle after sex tonight?" Elliot asks, resting his head on Emiliano's shoulder.
"We can cuddle for the rest of the night."
Dangerous Romance Ep 3
Episode Three Let's Goooo.
Oh wow Sailom is way more forgiving than I'd be over the whole gun incident. And the bullying.
But yes, I am fond of how money is informing a lot of these interactions. I hope they deal with it well, because the financial disparity between Sailom and Kang is large and it's informed so many of their interactions already. If they're gonna do this I want them to go hard.
Oh Sailom. I do love that he has his pride and he refuses to budge on it.
Called it. I knew Kang was gonna develop a hero complex about Sailom. We'll see how long it lasts.
Lol he is not going to read any of those. Not a one.
"Why is he here if he had no intention of studying?" Sailom honey you're smarter than this.
Damn, dad is super good at just cutting Kang's intelligence down without even breaking a sweat. And once again we get to see it land and a piece of his soul die. Perth is so good at that.
*cackles* Thank you Auto. I approve of Sailom kissing Kang every time he's annoying too.
Wait are we still talking about math why did it suddenly get tense in here?
SAILOM why are you softening this early. Stop it.
Oh okay good. I was starting to worry he'd forgotten how badly Kang bullied him since he's being decent all of the sudden. Like fine, great, he's letting you tutor him now. But don't forget what an asshat he was before yet please.
Man first Sand now you. I am disappointed, my dudes. Yes they're pretty but they're not *that* pretty. Yeesh.
Lol okay yes this checks out. The casual way that Kang drags Sailom into a restaurant way too rich for his blood. I knew he'd be high handed about it, too. I do love being right.
Okay would Sailom not knowing how to cut his steak really be normal? Not ever having it, fine, but not knowing how to cut it? Genuinely asking because I don't know.
Man I am way more suspicious than Sailom already because when Kang said he was going to the restroom my first thought was that he was going to ditch Sailom there.
Why is everything so happy and peppy what show is this? I feel like I started out in an enemies to lovers BL and then got dropped into a completely different genre this ep.
IDK every time they eat street food in one of these it always looks so good to me.
And now we're doing a spot of light trauma dumping in ep three.
Wait did he say handsome boy or Asian boy? Either way, gross. And aw, Sailom, I saw the way your eyeballs flickered at that money. I know escorting comes into play at some point, too. And then a wild Kang appears with his saving Sailom thing.
Ah okay for a sec I though we were doing the strategic hand placement kind of kissing in the year of our lord 2023, but it was on purpose. Makes sense because I was *wondering* how they were gonna make that happen this ep lol.
Damn dad, you didn't even wait for him to do well on his midterms.
I do like the bike though.
WHY. Put that guitar down now.
Hahaha okay I still love this dude. "Here's the cake for you from your fridge," lol. Why is that so hilarious to me.
*starts humming Father Figure by George Michael*
So I guess they're friends now? Okay then.
Okay there has to be something with this constant bathroom using. Like. Is he in there throwing up after eating or what?
Ah and we have surprise nice!Kang backstory. Okay, okay. And then mom died?
Alrighty then. I have to admit that I was hoping for a bit more antagonism or like, acknowledgment from Sailom that Kang literally got him fired from his job but I guess we're just not doing that.
That's fine. I will continue to be suspicious for the both of us.
Day 6 - Sharbot Lake to Perth - 42 km
Trail: Mostly flat
Last night I stayed at the Charbot Lake Inn. It's on the lake with beautiful views, a dock, kayaks, and a BBQ. I cooked my own steak for dinner. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. There is a pub next door, but it was closed. I tried to stay at the Rock Hill B&B, but it was full. Both are recommended.
I stopped to take a picture of this turtle and immediately noticed that the air was filled with sounds. The marsh was alive with the sounds of bullfrogs croaking, birds chirping, the pecking of woodpeckers, the flutter of ducks. I saw flowers, bees pollinating flowers, birds flying in all directions, and trees that have died and fallen, creating a very creative landscape. I have been riding through marshes every day of my ride and only today did I notice this beauty. I need to slow down and smell the roses. Apparently something I forgot when I lost my sense of smell.
I noticed a lot of markings along the trail. I finally concluded that it must be turtle nesting time and that the trailside mounds were nests. That would explain the turtles along the trail. Also interesting was the fact that turtles climb up a steep hill about 10 m to the location of the nest.
The trip was only 42 km but there were no restaurants between Charbot Lake & Perth so I packed a second breakfast and snacks.
The trail was good today and once I reached the start of the Tay-Havelock Trail (about 15 km from Charbot Lake) the trail became much better. The trail wandered past lake after lake with the odd marsh and wooded area. Definitely lots of opportunity to cool off on a hot day. Interesting sites included a deer on the trail, a giant beaver dam and a number of 100+ year old wooden barns.
Perth is a quaint little town with beautiful old stone buildings, parks, a coffee roastery, a couple craft breweries and some cool restaurants. There's even an opportunity to splurge at the Parkside Spa + Salon.
Tomorrow is Day 7 of my journey and it will be my day of rest.
My favourite courses were the Robinson bream fish wing which was perfectly cooked and 180 day dry aged Stirling Ranges steak. The mashed potatoes were creamy and love the other element with the crispy potato skins. Love the no-wastage ethos behind using fish wings and how it’s perfectly cooked over the fire grill. The menu focuses exclusively on local Western Australian produce - both in food and drinks (beer, wines and spirits). Chef Justin Hughes has an impressive background completing his apprenticeship at Becasse in Sydney before working under Neil Perry and Phil Wood at Rockpool on George for three years. Thanks so much to Drew, Simon and Justin for the invitation and hospitality. Enjoyed the food and can’t wait to be back. Ten mouth-watering dinner ideas for New Year’s Eve 2023
New Year is almost knocking on our doors. And the best way to celebrate 2023 is by arranging a grand dinner with family and friends. So, tell me, what are your New Year’s Eve dinner plans? Are you planning to dine out? Or going to cook some luscious dinner recipes at home? Whatever the plan is, everything goes well when the food is divine. A succulent and flavourful meal with the perfect cocktail pairing is the best way to say goodbye to 2022. But if you feel too lazy to visit restaurants in Perth city or prepare an enticing dinner, throw some sausages on the barbie, and those juicy snags can be your perfect gala meal.
A perfect New Year’s Eve dinner
According to you, what’s a typical New Year dinner? Well, it depends on the place you reside. For example, if you are an American, you probably would celebrate with a Champagne toast while Mexicans are busy munching on 12 grapes with each clock chime. Typically, Australians grill sausage, steak, and lamb on the barbie to ring in the new year. People in Scotland practise the custom of “first footing” by visiting a neighbour’s home with presents of shortbread, a black bun, and whisky. Whereas in Estonia, it’s traditional to eat seven, nine, or twelve meals, with a portion of leftovers reserved for the spirits of the ancestors who visit the house on New Year’s Eve. Hence, there’s no perfect recipe for a New Year’s Eve dinner, as every culture follows different traditions on this special occasion. So, if you want a traditional menu or something festive according to your mood, go with it because it’s all about customization. No rules applied!
Lucky foods that will bring luck in 2023
New Year is welcomed in many different ways. Sometimes it’s a great party with friends or celebrating a tradition with families and loved ones. In various cultures, the New Year celebration has a different meaning altogether. Some popular beliefs suggest that eating specific foods can bring good luck in the upcoming year, and in the same way, avoiding particular foods can save you from bad luck.
Let’s find out the lucky foods you can incorporate into your New Year’s Eve dinner and the ones that should be avoided.
New year’s foods that bring luck:
Popular folklore says eating these dishes on New Year’s Day will bring you luck the entire year.
According to legend, peas or beans represent money or wealth. Pick classic black-eyed peas, lentils, or beans to prepare a dish with pork, ham, or sausage as the main ingredient.
Greens have the appearance of folded money. Hence, boiled cabbage or sauerkraut, collard greens, kale, chard, mustard greens, turnip greens, or other green, leafy vegetables can be used in meals to bring good fortune in the upcoming year.
Because pigs tend to move forward, some cultures view pork as a symbol of prosperity. Hence, it’s common to see pork or ham in Southern New Year’s Day dishes.
Freshly baked cornbreads resemble the appearance of gold and go well with black-eyed peas and greens. A perfect addition to a dinner menu that screams “Carbs but healthy”!
In other cultures, dumplings, longevity noodles, and grapes are considered very lucky and devouring them can bring prosperity in the upcoming year.
Others believe that fish, ring-shaped cakes, doughnuts, or cakes with hidden treasures are symbols of luck.
Now, let’s move on to the list of unlucky foods:
Some think lobster represents terrible luck since it goes backwards and could portend setbacks and problems for the upcoming year.
On New Year’s Day, people should avoid chicken meals, as it scratches backwards and has wings. So, your luck might take off or turn wrong if you consume a chicken dinner.
List of ten mouth-watering dinner ideas for home and to order at restaurants
New Year’s Eve dinner ideas at home
If you are a big-time foodie like us, here are five dinner ideas you would like to incorporate into your menu for your New Year bash.
Slow Cooker Hoppin’ John and jollof rice
Skillet Mexican Cornbread with pork shoulder
Crispy Caramelized Pork Ramen Noodle Soup
Pan Seared Ribeye with Herb Butter
Brown Butter Scallops with Parmesan Risotto
These are some of the fantastic dishes you can serve as a main course at your dinner parties and pair them with a bottle of Shiraz or Merlot for extra oomph, and lastly, end the meal with a devil’s food cake. So if you are planning to surprise your family or close friends on New Year’s Eve, a luscious dinner party with warm home-cooked meals is the perfect call.
Celebrating New Year’s Eve at Restaurants
Visiting a Perth Restaurant can be ideal if you plan to dine out. Fraser’s restaurant is one place where you can enjoy sumptuous and delicious dishes and an elegant ambience that can be food for your eyes. So, here is the list of five items you can order from restaurants in Perth city during New Year’s Eve.
Grilled fillet of Goldband snapper
Kingfish Ceviche and chipotle aioli
Beef Carpaccio
Linley Valley Pork Belly
Tuna Tataki & Atlantic Salmon
As the main course is decided, it’s time to hop on the cocktail ideas that pair well with every dish. For example, the Espresso Martini, Pina Colada, Long Island Iced Tea or a classic Margarita can be the perfect accompaniment to all your meals. And for desserts, there’s an endless list which can end your meals on a sweet note. Like a classic Crème Brulée, a bourbon vanilla cheesecake or a chocolate Mousse, etc., any of them can end your meal on a sweet note. But if you have a sweet tooth, consider ordering more than one dessert before summing up your feast.
An elegant and classic dining experience- Fraser’s Restaurant
At Fraser’s, you don’t just come here to eat; you come here to gain an experience like no other. INVITED: MADELEINE ON BEAUFORT 🇫🇷✨ // lunch at the new French restaurant @madeleineonbeaufort : they’re open from Wednesdays to Sundays and are serving breakfast and lunch for now. They’re waiting on their liquor license and will open for dinner after that. Lunch menu on last pic. We had the following: - Fresh juices: Cloudy apple & Mango smoothie - Market Fish Goujons (crimson snapper): herbed parmesan crust, sauce Gribiche - Stockyard Sirloin Steak (300g) garlic fried potatoes, garden salad, sauce Béarnaise (gf) $48 - Special of the Day: Steak Sandwich with aged Cheddar, Tomato & Truffle Mayo $32 - Bread and Butter Pudding: vanilla bean crème Anglaise, fresh berries Love their beautiful fitout with the stained glass and lots of natural lighting. Tres chic. Everything was delicious and on point. The crimson snapper was fresh and such a refreshing starter to our lunch while we waited for the mains. Steak sandwich was one of the best I’ve had: crusty bread with tender steak, fresh tomato slices and melted aged cheddar. Mmm. Same owners as @mr_sandwichonstgeorges so they definitely know what they’re doing. The sirloin steak was good quality and juicy. Garlic fried potato was deliciously crispy - a must-order side here imo. Bearnaise sauce was rich and creamy. Bread and butter pudding was presented beautifully with fresh fruits and provided a sweet (not too sweet which was perfect) finish to our meal. Will be back to try their breakfast, baked goodies and dinner. Thanks so much Emmanuel and the team at @madeleineonbeaufort for your hospitality. ❤️🙏 #Invited #MadeleineOnBeaufort #Highgate #French #Lunch #parisienne #TresChic #PerthFrench #PerthFoodReview #PerthIsOk #UrbanListPerth #PFR_MadeleineOnBeaufort (at Highgate, Perth) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnBTwXTPezB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
