One of the greatest joys of visiting @teamstarkid’s newest shows has been seeing all of the positive lesbian representation through their characters and stories. When I was first getting into their content in 2011, it was around the time I learned that I, as a woman, could be something other than straight. Same gender attraction was not a new concept to me; I was almost exclusively familiar with it through men. But there was so little lesbian representation in media and so much stigmatization AROUND being a lesbian that it ultimately ended up making the idea a foreign concept for me. For a while, anyway.

I believe this is one of a few reasons it took me so long to *realize* I was exclusively experiencing same gender attraction. Not being able to see women in healthy relationships with one another represented in any form of media made the idea somewhat intangible and difficult to apply to myself. Even when I tried alternative labels, they still didn’t feel 100% correct. But getting to see Zazzalil and Alice and Deb in Firebringer and TGWLM, respectively – well, it made my heart swell. I keep thinking about Alice and Bill’s relationship as a father and daughter specifically, and how that plays into representation beyond the characters themselves. Even though Bill doesn’t like Deb too much, he still loves his daughter unconditionally, and that just melts me every time I watch the show.

So TL;DR – Thank you StarKid, and thank you Mariah, Jaime, and Lauren for bringing these amazing characters to life. I’m so overjoyed that others who face the same struggles I did get to have these guys to help them along in their journey of self discovery. ❤️💖🧡
