Quick starflight concept design.. not super happy with it but eh

a little scruffy like a scardycat, but considered pretty and fit looking for a nightwing of his era. Starflight was hatched on the brightest night hidden from moonlight, so in my design, while they are visible- his stars, tears and the moons on his wings do not glow like on other nightwings, but are darker!

as a librarian he wears a moonstone chain with beads for each of his friends and always has a wooden tablet as his scroll on hand. i imagine he would wear some kind of wrapping to protect his eyes to light sensitivity post injury, but he doesnt need it all the time.

im not sure how long it's gonna take me to make them digital and post them but i have all my tribe headcannons already planned out in my sketchbook. but for now im gonna try to do more protags!

Some doodles of what I imagine the dragonets of destiny look like.

design notes:

Starflight: normally i headcanon night wings have bright star patterns on them but because Starflight grew up without moonlight I image he remained very dark and plain.

Tsunami: dark teeth mainly because I think it looks cool. I gave her pearls! I like the juxtaposition of her tomboyish and rugged appearance with very dainty jewelry (she’s my favorite design)

Sunny: I wanted her to have some subtle nightwing features. Mainly her fleshy nose that while resembling a nightwings could be brushed off as a weird mutation of a nose horn. That’s also why I gave her dark brown freckles, chunky horns, and light scales down her neck. They could all pass as variants a sandwing could have but together they make her look a bit off.

Glory: I struggle with her color palette so much but I really like what I finally settled on. I also think her horns look cool.

Clay: nothing of note really. I gave him some whiskers for fun and decided he needed pierced ears.

Reasons and fun facts about their designs:

Clay - Semi-based off of Ankole-Wastusi. Loves to cook and I frente goes to the Mud Kingdom to get ingredients.

Tsunami - Based off of Tiger sharks. Her scars will heal but very slowly because Seawing scales are very special compared to other tribes and thus take longer to grow back.

Glory - Loosely based off of Emerald Boas. Her scales were much more darker and dull in the caves so this is when she made it back to the Rain Kingdom

Starflight - Based off of Black Myotis Bats and needs glasses to help his farsightedness.

Sunny - Based on Leopard Geckos and Desert Long-Eared Bats. Seems more Sandwing because of her mom being a Sandwing.

Starflight doodles!! I like to give his blindfolds different patterns. I imagine he'd feel a bit insecure about his scarring, so he'd wear blindfolds a lot at first; however, he'll eventually feel more comfortable with going without them <3

Also, Fatespeaker will make him blindfolds with cute designs <3 <3 She's very supportive of him (as we all know).

The DoD being the runners of a whole ass school is so fucking funny to me.

Imagine you grew up in a war ravaged country that’s been caught in a civil war for over a decade. The war is ended by a group of teenagers. Now, you’re forced to go to a school full of kids that just a few months ago, you were trying to kill in combat. And not only are the teachers the same people who ended this war, but they’re also socially stunted 18 year olds who lived literally under a rock their whole lives.
