I love turning my faves into dragons.. Strap up, here y'all go this big and chonky pomegranate dragon

I wanted to post some headcanons with this art but for the life of me I can't come up with something lenghty.. yknow. I just wanna stare at him tbh that's all.

Just imagining him being all careful and gentle with any kids that are close to him while he's in his dragon form and he lets them climb him and put flowers on him if they so wish. If he sheds a scale he gifts it to some kid that showed interest in it previously, and just imagine the kid turning that big ass dragon scale into a shield - because it's simply that big and durable - it came from Mydei's dragon form in the end and bro is a tank of a dragon. And imagine him being comfortable with having his s/o on/around him while he's in dragon form, he's careful with them but with how much time he's spent with his s/o he knows they won't accidentally run under him or anything like that lol

He'd be a menace in compat bro omg

Also I love the fact that his tail balances him out more, I had a rather specific vision with how he carries himself as a dragon and this just turned out so well aaaa- I'm very happy with it. I might have gone with a bit stronger colors on his neck area, but honestly I don't mind these either. They're alrigh <3

Smaugust week 1! Many dragons, and a lot of blue. I will always follow the rules of "anything can be a dragon".

very obvious bias for them on my part - we are doing design notes for now, expect countless headcannons on their culture and life etc

-generally based on large parrots and pythons! in a fantasy sense, they are covered in scales that look/act as feather plumage, able to bristle and be moved for display or emote as body language together with their frills! their face looks like a snakes, able to scent heat and taste the air with tounge flicks

-they also have larger longer 'feathering' near the base of their tail that looks like macaw tails which helps them make tight turns when flying. their bird like wings all together make them agile in short bursts, but they do terribly when it comes to distance flying

-they have an elongated front thumb, large hook claws on their wings, and their hind talons look like a bird's for their arboreal lifestyle!

Tried drawing some dragons with my least favorite colored pencil colors. I can always tell the ones I never use because they're long and sharp and pristine (no bite marks). I guess I must be warm-blooded because it's mostly blues, teals and purples :p

This is by far the most unfaithful 'redesign' I've done so far. But that being said, I don't call myself a butcher for no reason.

I don't enjoy how TNR brings back dragons from the original series, as it's set far, far into the future the fact that those species still exist and are practically unchanged is well, weird to me. The fact that NIGHTLIGHTS still exist is also extremely odd to me, as they are a hybrid species they should be long gone due to the fact that Nightfuries have been long extinct (Toothless is an outlier).

This redesign is mainly just me having fun tbh. That's what most of my redesigns are. it's less what the og could've done better and more what I would find more interesting as a concept. There's quite a few tidal class dragons in the HTTYD franchise, yet there's not really any that are a 'main rider dragon.' This is one part appreciating Tidal class dragons and one part an ode to the book series.

Glory ❀

loosely based her design on a peacock! in my version, her colours are slightly muted and the 'decorative' feathers and display parts of rainwings are missing on her due to sun deprevation. her frills are smaller for the same reason, but her horns suggest a natural crown.

of course she also has beads for the friends, and two extra ones for kinkajou and jambu!<33 plus you get to see her long ass rainwing thumb hehe
