It ended up being Starflight, haha. He wants the top shelf but he too small to fly yet
This actually brings up a very important question -- Do you think dragons make biscuits?

random, but do you have any headcanons about the dragonets of destiny?
indeed i do! i've been obsessed with the dod since i read the first book (IN 2012!!!) so i've had a lot of time to think about them. mostly i have design headcanons though, since it's harder for me to think up personality/character headcanons, but here's a short list!
CLAY
i headcanon mudwing bigwings as having tattoos of their troop's talonprints on their wings, so he has the other dod's talons on his
he has to wear a leg brace after the dragonbite viper wound, as he has permanent joint/nerve damage and some muscle atrophy
also, he became interested in medicine while being treated for the viper bite, and enjoys it as a way he can protect those he loves without hurting others <3
he and sunny are also enjoying learning to cook together!
TSUNAMI
she may have coral's colors, but she bears a striking resemblance to gill. she also has pink accents, as i headcanon that as a major trait in the seawing royal family
she wears a shell earring in one ear to remember her seawing family. i don't think she'd enjoy wearing pearl strings, they would get in the way too much
has nightmares not only about killing gill, but about being restrained and unable to protect the other dod. i think being chained to a rock while glory was going to be killed/fighting in the arena did a number on her.
is the big protective den mama of the jade mountain winglets. no getting past her to her students!
GLORY
dull scales, but that helps her blend into shadows more than other rainwings, who are used to hiding in the splendor of the rainforest, while she learned from hiding in a cave.
is trying really hard to connect to her heritage. this includes attending lessons with friends and dragonet classes to learn rainwing crafts and skills. she likes trying out different fruits.
i think it would be neat if she made a co-council of rainwings and nightwings for leading both tribes, and had a nightwing ruler alongside her. who that would be, idk.
has been working with a lot of queens to establish trade agreements and things, which gives her a lot of hot goss on the other royal happenings. i think her favorite to work with would have been glacier before she died.
STARFLIGHT
WEARS GLASSES!! had terrible eyesight growing up, the guardians managed to get some glasses for him from one of the other Talons. still wears tinted glasses after he was blinded, even though his eyes were inucleated, because the weight is comforting
also has black teardrop scales next to his eyes, which would have been silver if he'd hatched under three moons
autism incarnate
ends up teaching science classes at jma, with fatespeaker handling the library while he's teaching
SUNNY
i need her to have brown colorpointing and black freckles and stars on her wings you don't understand
dune put two and two together on thorn being so cagey about her boyfriend and quickly realized sunny is a hybrid. lied to the other guardians and said 'oh some sandwings just look like that. yeah see even blister has black markings. oh the tail? uhhh her egg was damaged or something idk'
sunny was really like a daughter to dune, not just because she's a sandwing but because she's thorn's kid
she has a LOT of hobbies, and wants to learn how to do everything! she's pretty good at drawing and cooking
aroace!! and probably some range of nonbinary as well

🌊 and 🕺for the wof ask game
🌊 - Favorite scene? (Optional - Death scene)
Hmmmmmm.... it's pretty hard to think of just a couple to talk about... Clay leading Scarlet's prisoners in song is definitely one. And honestly any scene where the dod are goofing around in arc 1 is lovely to me.
Of course the whole Jerboa segment in The Dangerous Gift is top tier, I love when this series becomes a psychological horror all of a sudden.
I'm flip flopping all over the place, but I also really like whenever we have a SeaWing protagonist and they get to just swim around for a bit. I'm a sucker for scenic underwater moments.
As for a death scene, Kestrel's fills me with joy so it's my favorite in that way. Other than that, I'd probably have to say Gill's. It's already such a spine chilling scene, but the added information of him being Tsunami's father adds such an interesting conflict to it. Like, how many things targeted at kids can you point to in which one of the main characters unknowingly killed their father with their bare hands?
🕺 - Do you have any headcanons on the Dragonets of Destiny?
You probably already knew I was gonna say this Moose, but our inside joke about Starflight being really into horror stories is the first thing that comes to mind.
We have this whole thing about how Starflight absolutely loves disturbing horror media, and he'll frequently recount these stories to make everybody else around him uncomfortable and scared shitless. (especially Tsunami) I imagine he'd also write some short stories of his own, and he'd probably end up making their world's equivalent of a famous creepypasta that's actually good.
And you know what, here's some lgbt headcanons about them since it's pride month :3
Clay: demiromantic gay and ace
Tsunami: lesbian
Glory: pan
Starflight: demi boy and ace
Sunny: aroace

What's life like for the Dragonets in the Blister wins au?
p.s love this au
Glory and Starflight have managed to trap themselves within the lap of luxury, treated like almost royalty, with all the food, treasure and resorces they could ever want, spoilt for choice, and with more gifts along the way. And they get it all, as long as they keep assisting the sandwing queen, of course. As for the other three? Well...

ALSO FOR THE ASKS THING!! U SENT THE UHH DOD HEADCANONS EMOJI THING. SOMEONE ELSE ALSO ASKED THE SAME ONE SO IT GOT ANSWERED!! :))) I DIDNT SEE UR REBLOG UNTIL NOW SO I DIDNT ANSWER THEN SORRY....
BUT ALSO I WANTED TO ASK UHHH
🪶🥀!!!
(-@kinkajouwof, again)
DONT WORRY ABOUT IT!! I figured you probably couldn’t see the tags either way so its alright !!!! Thank you sm for asking me though eheh <33
[🪶 ] Draw/talk about your Favorite Character!
My all time favorite character ever is Tsunami Wings of Fire <3!!! I dont know why she appeals to me so much, I think its just due to her interpersonal development throughout the story?? Shes a strong and headstrong character who is very outwardly confident (and quite boastful) in her abilities but is able to recognize her flaws and make an effort to become better and more understanding!!! We watch her development happen within her narrative and see how it effects her relationships in such an interesting and charismatic way <333 and despite this development she keep her core personality (she is PASSIONATE and develops how she conveys that strong emotion!!) and is just very intriguing to me!!! I love her sm just. Such a cool character. I equally think my love for her stems from me reading the Lost Heir as my very first WoF book and I clung onto that shit so quickly and here we are today PFHB
[🥀 ] Opinion on the Graphic Novel style?
Im gonna be fully honest here, I adore it with my whole heart PAHBJ!!! Its so unique and cool!!! The expressions, face shapes, and movements are drawn quite well and the environments the characters are in are often v pretty and intriguing! There of course are certain things I dont enjoy as much (Summer Palace design…) and yes quite uncanny bits (Mainly anatomy of harms & “hands”, as seen by the Pike Hands Incident) but overall I find it very enjoyable and unique. I have a soft spot for kinda messy art regardless so <333 I love how jagged the style is in the first graphic novel and as more graphic novels come out the better the style develops and its so much fun to see develop for me
Additionally I did a redraw of my favorite lil background illustration from the first graphic novel which also includes Tsunami so doodle that covers both questions <33

Answering comments from @void-the-bear @railway-lands @keabirb @ilikebookssomuch @chezgorman @cartoons-everywhere @dragonra305
Please don't hurt me. I have glasses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you, to all of you. It makes me genuinely happy to know that I'm able to put something into this world that other people can enjoy. I think this is a great setting that is fun to add to.
Doing a Wings of Fire-themed run of this Smaugust challenge has been very interesting and it's good that the result appears to be well-received. It's not always been easy, I'm actually getting quite exhausted having to post content on a strict schedule like this. But it is worth doing if it makes people happy.
Tumblr media
Relating to my comment on this post. I probably will do it eventually, along with some other ideas I had that didn't fit in. But it won't happen while Smaugust is still going, as I am already skirting the limits of what I am physically capable of right now.
Tumblr media
Ahh... hm... This is the question that has toppled mountains and started wars. You're going to get hit squads sent after me.
Well, there is the big one, of course. Qibli/Winter. They have such wonderful chemistry whenever they are in a scene together (with one pretty upsetting exception). And Qibli is always teasing him about being his destiny and the two of them getting married, so I think there is some attraction there.
Then uh... I used to feel completely ambivalent about this one, but Starflight/Fatespeaker has really grown on me over time. There's a lot of interesting potential there that doesn't really make it into the story. I need to make a long-winded post about Fatespeaker one day.
Blaze/Glacier is another one that could be cute. I think putting a repressed Icewing together with a highly eccentric and rambunctious Sandwing is going to be a winning combination most of the time. Or well, I guess I should say "could have been cute", since Glacier had to die for the plot, in a very wretched and infuriating way too.
There are a couple more that I think have their moments or could be interesting in one way or another. Some of them even contradicting or overlapping each other. Listing all of them would probably be a bit excessive.
Oh yeah, and I think Sunny is ace.
Tumblr media
Ah, a question that'll make me put someone else's favorite character at the bottom of a preference list... After the shipping question I'm starting to fear for my life now.
Let me preface this by clarifying that I generally like all of the DoD. There are some characters in this setting that I loathe and wish they would exit the story, and the arc 1 protagonists are nowhere near that. So being ranked low here translates to me saying "Yeah, they're okay, room for improvement", not "wow, they're the WORST!"
Okay whatever, let's get down to it.
#1 - Sunny
That one's easy, I mean, just look at the pinned post on this blog.
Sunny is so wonderful and charming and perfect in every conceivable way, she is one of my six all-time favorite characters. She is the flower that blooms in the bitter desert. A lot of people may perceive her as this demure and innocent character who is always happy and friendly, and oblivious to the suffering around her. Nah, Sunny knows exactly what is going on. She is keenly aware of all the bloodshed, suffering, and toxicity that unfolds in the world around her. When she remains optimistic and forgiving in the face of darkness, that is not her being meek or passive, it's her steadfastly refusing to let that darkness into herself. She is actively embodying the change she wants to see in the world, even when it hurts her or gets her taken advantage of, because that is what she believes in and the future she will create.
That's pretty inspiring. I wish I had that kind of inner strength.
Also, she is not weak. While she's not a powerhouse scrapper like Tsunami or an invincible stack of bricks like Clay, Sunny strikes quickly and without hesitation when her friends are in danger, and can be deviously clever. This is often overlooked, but she is--to my knowledge--the only character to land an attack on Morrowseer that comes close to actually hurting him.
Well... you got me rambling about Sunny. Let's go through the others more briskly.
#2 - Starflight
I like Starflight a lot. Unfortunately the story really doesn't. He is like, the unluckiest character by far. I don't know what he did to deserve the never-ending cavalcade of misfortune that gets shoveled in his direction throughout all three arcs. Like, it never ends. A couple of friends and I came together and we jokingly called our group the "Starflight Protection Foundation", because someone needs to stage an intervention. Like, wrap him in a cozy sweater and buy him hot chocolate or something. Heaven help this poor man.
He's another one of my favorites.
#3 - Glory
Glory is really cool; I vibe with the "unchosen hero spurned by destiny" theme. She goes through her life and is constantly told "No, you don't have a special destiny. You're the fifth wheel. You are worthless and unimportant". Though she struggles with the constant abuse and devaluation, she eventually finds a way to turn it into strength and declare that the only value that matters is the one she gives to herself.
I really wish the story had NOT made her turn out to be a secret princess. "I was born without destiny, so I'm making my own" is a so much more satisfying character trajectory than "Oh, don't worry. You were born special after all, you just didn't know about it".
So yeah, I kind of tend to put that "secret princess" plot twist on the shelf when I think about Glory, and prefer to think that she managed to sway Grandeur with her skill and determination, rather than a random blood link.
#4 - Clay
Clay is very lovable. He is like the emotional bedrock of the group and acts as a stabilizing force that pairs well with all of the other arc 1 protagonists. He pretty much resolves all of his baggage in the first book and becomes content and steady. That is very good for him, but unfortunately this also kind of turns him into just some dude for the following four books.
Which is fine, it is good for the other characters to have someone behind them who loves them and helps them up when they stumble. It just makes it difficult for Clay to shine on his own.
#5 - Tsunami
Okay, so, Tsunami. I actually like her a lot in arc 1. She's bringing an interesting kind of energy to the group that is like, half-supportive and half-detrimental. Very chaotic. She also has to contend with some heavy stuff; everything to do with her father and the complications in her family life. It's very interesting. Lots of places to go with that.
Arc 2 Tsunami though, really grinds my gears. She regresses into this kind of juvenile, immature personality that is just pointlessly abrasive and confrontational. She acts really condescendingly towards Peril-- despite the latter having saved Clay's life AND it being really important to Clay that her staying at JMA works out well. Her borderline sabotaging this effort by making Peril feel unwelcome seems very dismissive towards Clay's feelings. It also doesn't help that she is the most outspoken about her loathing of Nightwing mindreading and prophecies, which drives Moonwatcher further into her emotional shell and makes things more complicated.
Okay, I have to reiterate: I don't dislike Tsunami. I just think her character arc is incomplete. It feels like she is stuck in arrested development while at JMA. She's mostly running around yelling at people, when she really should be thinking about what to do about Queen Coral, and how to get custody of her siblings. Her sister Anemone is carrying emotional scars from how the Queen has kept her leashed like a dog for her entire life, a process that is now happening to Auklet, even to this day. And then there's the 30 something children who have never known parental love for a day in their life and their mother can't remember the names of.
Someone's gotta step in and save these kids. Or like, at least start vaguely thinking about it.

So many people think Webs is the Good Guardian. That he's the Nice One. They say "oh he's not that bad" and claim he wasn't abusing the dragonets. I was litterally talking to my friends about him and they were like "He was only mean to Glory, and she dismisses it, so its fine, it didn't affect her. Plus he brought Starflight scrolls every now and then. Hes good, trust."
And im just left fumming bc. Idk if there's an english equivalent, but in my language theres a saying that goes "The lookout is as much of a thief as the robber" and I think that applies to abuse too. Webs was a coward who didn't stood up to Kestrel, so he just left this grown ass woman bully litteral children and gave them scrolls as a consolation prize. What the hell. Hes a spineless coward who doesn't have the strength to disagree with anyone, hes not nice.
And Webs just straight up lied to Tsunami about the bioluminescent stripes. This is a post I made but I cannot find it and link it for the life of me.
Telling her they were for mating display purposes just so that he wouldn't have to teach her Aquatic. Like. What was the point of that?? I forgot most about the books (havent read them in years) but that part stuck with me.
What was his plan? Embarrass her in front of the other seawings? That seems very counterproductive if you're trying to raise a prophecy dragonet that needs respect to be able to choose a queen and end the war.
Just being lazy? Bro??? How do you get lazy enough to lie about your own biology. If you really dont want to teach her just give her a scroll and tell her to figure it out. Maybe while you're gathering scrolls for Starflight you can get something for the other seawing you've been in contact with for the last 7 years.
And now Webs is teaching at JMA. I dont know about you, but if it were me, I wouldn't trust him anymore. Much less to teach dragonets.
I went to go find confirmation in the books, and here it is, beginning of Chapter 8 in book one:
< “All right fine!” She [Tsunami] said with a grimace. “Glowing in the dark Webs says it’s to attract other SeaWings. That’s how we choose our partners, or whatever.” She shoved his [Clay] head under water again, and he came up sputtering. “Now aren’t you sorry you asked?”
He was, a little bit. The idea of Tsunami leaving them for another SeaWing with cool glowing scales made Clay feel extra-blooby and drab. >
I told this to my friends and their answers? "Tsunami might have misinterpreted his answer." WHAT. How do you misinterpret "this is to speak a language" and "this is a for mating displays".
Bottom line: Webs was just as awful as the other guardians, but people tend to dismiss it because "he brought them scrolls from time to time :)"

“Wings of night shall come to you”
Here’s Starflight, the second youngest of the Dragonets of Destiny. Poor Starflight feels the weight of the world on his shoulders, and is often lost in thought, trying to decipher the visions that flood his mind. Often feels solely responsible for the prophecy and drowning in worry, needs a gentle reminder from one of the other dragonets that he’s not alone and they’re all in this together.
Starflight, and Sunny, finding a proper seer and mind reader teacher once they reach the Night Kingdom is a plot point that’ll come up.
Also I like to think that nightwing dragonets that hatch under full moons often have more vibrant colors then those who hatch under no or non full moons. So someone like Starflight here, whose hatched under three full moons, is a bit of an oddity with his colorful scales.
If you have questions, please ask, I’d like to answer questions about the au, especially as it develops.

took this as an opportunity to figure out how i think he would look post-volcano, he wears tinted glasses instead of a blindfold (more for the familiar, comfortable weight of them than anything, seeing as his eyes had to be removed) and he wears a ring of jade signifying his position as staff at jma

Starflight: One of the age-old philosophical questions is, "If a tree falls, and nobody is around to hear it, does it even make a sound?"
Starflight: The answer is yes.
Starflight, shaking his head: Philosophers. Honestly. Get a job, thinky boy!
