Comedown
Fandom: Star Wars (sequel trilogy) Pairing: Armitage Hux/Captain Cardinal (one-sided) Words: 1079 Rating: Gen.
It was rare to see Cardinal without his father, though his presence wasnât necessarily unwelcome. Armitage sipped the last of his tarine tea, taking the time to formulate a plan. He could engage with Cardinal to enquire about his father, but the wrong wording could arouse suspicion. Or, even worse, it could be mistaken for genuine concern.
Written for @filigranka for the Star Wars Rare Pairs Exchange 2018.Â
Continue reading under the cut, or head over to read it on ao3 if youâd prefer.Â
Armitage watched the other junior officers file into the mess hall as he poked and prodded at the food on his tray. It was as grey and uninspiring as the decor, with a texture reminiscent of something one might encounter in the swamps of Vodran. His eyes flickered towards the generalâs usual seat, but it was empty. No doubt, his father was in his suite eating something hideously decadent and Republican. He wouldnât be missed.
For a moment, Armitage had expected to see him, when he caught a glimpse of crimson armour. It was rare to see Cardinal without his father, though his presence wasnât necessarily unwelcome. Armitage sipped the last of his tarine tea, taking the time to formulate a plan. He could engage with Cardinal to enquire about his father, but the wrong wording could arouse suspicion. Or, even worse, it could be mistaken for genuine concern.
âCardinal.â The trooperâs posture was stiff as he approached, in stark contrast to the fluidity of movement Armitage had witnessed when watching him train that morning. The black body gloves the troopers wore under their armour looked too tight to be comfortable and more often than not the fabric ended up drenched with sweat...but Cardinal hadnât made an unpleasant sight.
âThe general is overseeing preparations for Empire Day.â Of course he was. Armitage could already envision his father decked out in an old uniform that no longer fit, clinging to his medals as the last remnants of a bygone era. Brendol had always been a pompous ass. Fortunately, not all of the Imperial veterans were so intent on revelling in nostalgia for their old Empire. Armitage found it difficult to imagine the likes of Grand Admiral Sloane or Lieutenant Commander Yago commemorating past failures.
âI see.â It was a little disappointing that he had been quite so quick to mention his father, though he supposed as far as Cardinal was concerned, that was probably all the two of them had to talk about - never mind the fact that Armitage would rather discuss almost anything else. âActually I wanted to ask about something else.â
âWhat might that be, Sir?â His tone was polite but, just as it had done when Armitage had first met Cardinal on Jakku, his expression gave away his annoyance at having to deal with a soft, spoiled child. It stung, more than it had done then. Armitage had never been spoiled, and as Brendolâs personal bodyguard, Cardinal ought to have noticed exactly how the man spoke about his âuselessâ son - and that was when the man was feeling generous.
âI wondered if youâd had the opportunity to run through the new training simulations,â Armitage said, knowing full well that he hadnât. âI would value your opinion.â
âI havenât.â He watched intently as Cardinalâs fingers ran through his hair, noticing the way the fluorescent lights brought out the blue tones. âIâd be happy to provide feedback, once I have done.â
âOf course.â Armitage pursed his lips. âIâm considering running through one myself at the end of this cycle. Perhaps youâd care to join me, if your duties allow it.â Cardinal frowned as he considered his options.
âMy schedule would allow it.â Armitage allowed himself a thin smile. Heâd known Cardinal would be wary of rejecting the offer.
âExcellent. Iâll forward you the details.â
In truth, Armitage rarely ran through the simulations personally, and he had to admit to feeling a little foolish clutching a fake blaster rifle in an empty white room before the simulation was up and running. Cardinal arrived on time and in full crimson armour, polished to perfection. Whoever had crafted his armour had done a fine job - at first glance it wasnât so different to the regular trooper armour, but Armitage was able to appreciate the smoother, sleeker design of the plates and the way it seemed almost an extension of Cardinalâs own body when he moved. As he recalled the way the body glove had clung to Cardinalâs body during his earlier training session, Armitage felt a little disappointed that heâd chosen to don his armour now.
He nodded to Cardinal in greeting, then instructed the ensign to input the simulation codes. In place of empty white space, the two of them found themselves surrounded by dense vegetation and the sound of heavy rainfall. The scent of rotting leaves was still missing, Armitage noted - the simulation was not quite complete, and so it was expected that they would not yet gain the full sensory experience of the jungle. When the stormtroopers ran through the simulation the roomâs environmental controls would ensure a more appropriate level of humidity, but Armitage saw no good reason to do so now when he was wearing a freshly cleaned uniform.
Cardinal crouched beside him, and Armitage fumbled with his blaster rifle while trying to remember the last time heâd been so close to another person. He felt Cardinalâs hand steady his arm, gentle but firm. He wasnât sure why he flinched at the touch. It wasnât particularly intrusive - heâd simply aimed to correct his posture the same way he did with the young troopers he instructed.
âIâm not a child,â he snapped. It shouldnât have bothered him as much as it did, but he really, really didnât want Cardinal to see him as one.
âNo.â Cardinal cleared his throat. âForce of habit. My apologies - Iâm sure you donât require my assistance.â Cardinal nodded in acknowledgement as Armitage sniped an enemy soldier, but his mood had already been soured. The star destroyer was so large that Brendol was most likely miles away, and yet Armitage could almost hear his father laughing at this entire situation, cheeks red and swollen from too much liquor.
They completed the rest of the simulation in near silence, maintaining at least a meter of distance from one another at all times.
âA welcome change of pace,â Armitage said weakly. The usual rush of adrenaline he felt after battle simulations was nowhere to be found. Only the comedown.
âYes, a promising simulation.â Cardinal took his helmet off and tucked it under his arm. Somehow his hair was ruffled and perfect. âI look forward to seeing it again when itâs complete and compiling a report.â
âVery good. Dismissed.â Armitage turned on his heel, taking in the blank white space instead of golden skin and blue-black hair and beautiful brown eyes, not caring to see Cardinalâs expression as he hurled his blaster rifle at the wall.

Art likes: pastel color palettes, blushy faces, cute and/or detailed outfits, blonde anakin
DNWs: non-con, dub-con, cheating, underage, mpreg, a/b/o, most kinks tbh, character bashing
Possibly useful links: my ao3, my writing tag, my art blog, my star wars tag
Anything from gen to explicit is all good and welcome!! (Though as far as mature/explicit, Iâm not super into any kinks, so if in doubt err on the side of vanilla.)

my fics in a decade
I wanted to look back on what Iâve written and how much I progressed, so a self-rating, self-ranking of my own fics is in order.
Super cool, Iâm proud of them
So the first category is the fics that Iâm proud of and I think they did well in their own little niche.
From the Worldâs End (Loki tv) Sylvie-centric gen, written for MFD
Tell Me My Name (Loki tv) Sylvie/Hunter-B15, written for MFD
Love is Yellow (Life is Strange: True Colors) Alex/Ryan & Alex/Steph, written for my own challenge Iâm gonna fail otherwise :D So the thing here is that this Christmas I got a buttload of fresh games as a present, and I managed to get obsessed with a lot of stuff. TC is special in my heart because itâs about grief and it really helped me, it was very cathartic and this fic helped me get back into my writing grooves. (Which btw vastly improved, I promise!)
Please Ignore the Fear Demon (Charmed 2018) Macy-centric gen, written for ToT, one of my worst challenge experiences, my recip was not only a serial non-commenter, they had a locked letter, prompts that were contradictory (only romance prompts for siblings but no inclination for incest), and they didnât even reply to the mod who I reached out to. I guess the challenge participants wanted to be kind with kudos and a lovely comment. It still left me so sour, I havenât written for a while after this. (Also I get that sometimes people drop off of challenges and thatâs okay, but since the letter and prompts and everything, it was clear my recip didnât want this fandom anymore.)
Moments: (Debris) Bryan/Finola, written for the AU exchange and for my fandom bestie, hithelleth. :) Itâs always a treat to be matched to hithelleth. â„
Teammates (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) Bucky & Sam & Zemo, gen, written for MFD, and dear God, this was so hard to keep gen. I really didnât ship them as an OT3, yeah, right until I started this drabble. I still have the big epic OT3 fic WIP this one inspired, though Iâm not so sure Iâll ever finish.
But wait, thereâs more...
Pretty decent
Next up are fics that I really like and theyâre still being read even after all this time. (Also Iâd love to note that I scream and cry happy tears whenever I see someone reccing these. :D)
Finding Home (Star Wars Sequel Trilogy) Poe/Rey, written for MFD. My first and pretty much last foray into the SW movie fandoms I think. But who knows.
Bad Taste (In Boys) (iZombie) Liv/Ravi
Pain (Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order) Trilla-centric gen, written for MFD
Now That Sheâs Here (Agents of SHIELD) Bakshi/Jemma, written for Rare Pair Fest, and you guessed it, for hithelleth - I recently re-read this fic, and I was hit by such nostalgia. :D We do know how to pick our rare ships, donât we?
How to Deal with Haunted Objects: A Helpful Guide by Jenny Mills (Sleepy Hollow TV) Crane/Hawley - Iâm utterly devastated how bad the show turned out at the end, and how they kept writing off good characters. Anyway, still one of my cutest fics.
Weâre Not Broken (The Vampire Diaries TV) Elena/Rebekah There was a time when my brain was occupied with nothing but TVD, it was never a perfect show, but it was fun to write for and Elena had to be shipped with every original. HAD TO BE.
You know what? These are pretty niche
They didnât get a lot of traction but I still love them, and I had to realize at this point that Iâm mostly writing the rarest of rare pairs.
Blood and Starlight (The Vampires Diaries TV) Elena/Rebekah
This is How the Story Ends (Once Upon a Time) Ruby/Victor written for Rare Pair Fest - again for a non-commenter or a sock, but at least I enjoyed it.
Love Stories for Dead People (TVD TV) Elena/Klaus - for some reason, this is my only fic translated into Russian. Iâm still fucking proud of that. :D
Iâll Be Your Safety (How to Train Your Dragon movies) human!Toothless/Hiccup - Not like it makes it any better that I made Toothless a human cursed into a dragon form (especially that I really rushed this in this particular fic) but you have to understand, in the books Toothless talks like a human being. :D So my brain latched onto this ship. To this day, it still gets kudos, and you know what? You go, people, who ship a dragon with a human. You go.
Pieces of Us (Arrow) Diggle/Felicity/Oliver - my OG OT3, or wait? Was that Klaus/Elena/Elijah? Anyway, this was written for the Rare Ship Swap, and Iâm still pissed at how rare this ship was.
Clean Slate (Supernatural) Destiel - this... is so not me. Was a gift fic for a friend.
Just Like You (TVD) Elena/Kol - the shipping goes on even if the characters are dead.
Mirror (TVD) pre-Elena/Elijah - My first ever fic Iâve written in English, and yeah, in some places it shows, itâs very dated, but it helped me to find my voice, and experiment with darker themes.
Come and Find Me in the Dark Now (TVD) Elena/Klaus
A Love Story Starring Monsters (TVD) Elena/Klaus - this fic was recced in the same post as Sandrineâs and adlybâs fics, so I think I just went to heaven when I saw that. Itâs a personal accomplishment Iâll always cherish. Also, this was written for the Rare Pair Fest for hithelleth. :)
Why donât you love me?
The fics that are not bad but somehow they got crickets. (âSomehow,â I say, when the first fic on the list is the most niche incest ship ever, okay...)
Scarred Heart in Hand (Sleepy Hollow) Abbie/Jenny - yeah, niche incest rare pair
She Belongs to Fairy Tales (Revolution) Charlie/Miles - there was a time, a golden time in fandom when Revolution was a thing. And we all shipped the most glorious ships. Also, admittedly this is only, like, a writing exercise. BTW, did you know someone linked this fic to fanlore??? I am forever immortalized by an incest fic. :D
Scattered Pieces of Who I Am (Revolution) Bass/Charlie/Miles - I really should have written 50k of this.
The Ashes Fell Like Snow (Once Upon a Time) Hook/Emma - what did you say? The fic that contains the most popular canon het ship tanked? Well, it got nominated for a CaptainSwan award iirc, which mildly surprised me, because letâs face it I just killed LITERALLY everyone in this fic, while Hook is brainwashed. (I still remember someone on ffnet complaining why I killed all of the characters when I warned for it. OR ASKING for a sequel to write a happy ending.)
The absolute flop, the trash, the garbage fire
Letâs face it, not every fic we write is good, and not every fic we write is even readable, especially if weâre not writing in our native language. These are not all bad, but rather unknown fandoms... but thereâs nightmare-inducing cringe here.
The Way We Fall (Supernatural) Destiel -Â Well, itâs certainly a fic... It was supposed to be some sad, told backwards story, but something is definitely missing here.
Introduction (The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare) Sebastian/Clary - So this? This is painfully bad. Awful trash. Iâm not gonna delete it because I lolâd when re-reading it and I can see my progress at least. Itâs clumsily translated (with the help of two English teachers lol really, not even kidding), and sometimes the Hungarian just shines through. But anyway, itâs also very very very awfully written. The sentence structure, the... I donât even know. I wrote this sometime when I started COLLEGE. Jesus. Also itâs AO3 locked because of the whole CC drama.
Fairy Tales and Nightmares (The Unwritten) Lizzie-centric gen - Now, this is not a bad fic, but look there are only 6 whole fics written for this fandom, this being one. I donât even think anyone knows about these comics besides the comic nerds.

Lost At Sea: A List of WIPâs I am finally letting go of [ Part 2 ]
[ Part 1 ]
Exactly what it says on the tin.
Very Sincerely Yours by semaphoredrivethru
Summary:Â Terrified at the prospect of humiliating himself in front of the ton and completely ruining his first season with his crippling shyness, omega Stiles Stilinski does the only thing he can; he invents a sweetheart away at war. A completely fictitious and utterly gorgeous captain, a gentlemanly paragon of romance and adoration, an alpha with whom Stiles spends years "exchanging" letters.Years later, an angry, war-battered Derek Hale shows up at Stiles's door. He's no gentleman, and vehemently denies the existence of anything remotely resembling romance. He's received every last letter and has come to collect on Stiles's promises of home and marriage, no matter what.
Last Updated: 2018
Fandom & Main Pairing: Teen Wolf ; Sterek
Personal Notes: AHHHHH, THEREâS NOTHING I LIKE MORE THAN A GOOD REGENCY BODICE RIPPER AU. HOW UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS ONE NEVER GOT FINISHED. IT WAS SUCH A GOOD START TOO, I AM SO DISAPPOINTED. AHHHHHHH SO SAD.
Sold by onlyastoryteller
Summary:Â The government has passed two significant acts that eliminate the rights of convicted felons. When Peter Burke learns that Neal Caffrey's Work Contract has been purchased by a private citizen, he springs into action.
Last Update: 2018
Fandom & Main Pairing: White Collar ; Baffery
Personal Notes: While this fic is amazing and it hasnât been THAT long since it was last updated (trust me, Iâve held on to fics for over 5 years on the hope itâd get updated lmao), this fandom and pairing just doesnât interest me anymore; mostly because The Bullshit Season really turned me off from the show.
Syphaâs Boys by ShifterCat
Summary: âBack in the tomb under GreĆit, Alucard asked you about that prophecy involving him. And⊠you blushed.ââO-oh.â That brought her up short. âYes. That.â Sypha glanced away, gathering herself, then looked back decisively. ââThe Hunter, the Scholar, the Sleeping Soldier: they shall travel together. They shall defeat great evil together. They shall⊠love together.ââTrevor blinked a few times, allowing that to sink in. Then: âYour prophecy says weâre going to fuck?â
Last Update: 2019
Fandom & Main Pairing: Castlevania ; Syvorcard
Personal Notes: I mean, it says what it is on the tin - itâs just a collection of smut vignettes and after the first 5 chapters the sex kinda just gets old and I start to crave actual plot. That isnât to say itâs not well written and I didnât enjoy it but..you know *hand waves*Â
Partners by wordswehavesaid
Summary:Â In which Barry Allen is the Starling City Police Department's forensics assistant. Yes, Starling.
Last Update: 2015
Fandom & Main Pairing: The Flash/Arrow ; Flarrow
Personal Notes: I love love love love LOVE this fic. I love it SO MUCH and it physically PAINS ME to let it go but itâs time. Still, at 25 hefty chapters, itâs not really a bad deal to put your time into it.
Take My Body by paraselenewoman
Summary:Â Derek and Jordan are Alphas. Stiles is their newly obtained omega. Everything is pretty terrifying. If given the chance, though, Stiles probably wouldn't change a thing.
Last Update: 2015
Fandom & Main Pairing: Teen Wolf ; Derek x Stiles x Parish
Personal Notes: ......okay listen. I never said I was proud of all of my fic reading choices okay BUT SOMETIMES. SOMETIMES A BITCH JUST NEEDS SOME GOOD OLD FASHIONED A/B/O Dom/sub DYNAMICS IN THEIR LIFE OKAY. YOU CANâT SHAME ME - but I am a little embarrassed to admit it so letâs head to the next fic.
That Which Binds Them by Flarrow
Summary:Â Everyone is born with a mark shared by their soulmate, located somewhere around their shoulder blade. They say the mark burns upon meeting one's soulmate. Oliver knows what his is, but doesn't believe in the system. Barry doesn't know what his looks like, but he wants it to be a surprise.Set in The Flash and Arrow universes, but AU in the sense that I'm not sticking to the storyline laid out in either series, though I may borrow elements when they work for the story. Barry and Oliver are still The Flash and Arrow. Idea of the mark's location was inspired by the brand Oliver received in âThe Fallen.â
Last Update: 2016
Fandom & Main Pairing: The Flash/Arrow ; Flarrow
Personal Notes: I read this a while back but I do remember it being a really good story. At 18 chapters, I didnât feel like giving it the full re-read treatment since Iâm currently on a role but I DID take the liberty of reading the very last chapter and I can say youâll leave this fic satisfied if you do read it, even though itâs unfinished.
Steve Rogers and the Tri-Wizard Tournament by gryffindor17
Summary:Â Thereâs not a person who walks the halls of Hogwarts who doesnât know Steve Rogers: the boy with the righteous streak, hot temper, and massive crush on the Romanian Longhornsâ star Chaser, Bucky Barnes. But Bucky exists to Steve only on the front page of The Daily Prophet. He has long since resigned himself to admiring from afar, catching games when he can or otherwise following Barnesâs crusade against injustice through printed page.Until the man himself walks into the Great Hall on the first night of their Seventh Year.Buckyâs life outside of the spotlight is hardly worthy of a footnote, never mind a headline, but no one wants to read about Bucky Barnes being found face-down and fast asleep between the shelves of Durmstrangâs impressive library. Between his studies and the Quidditch Finals looming around the corner, the last thing Bucky needs is something like the Tri-Wizard Tournament. He knows Headmaster Pierce is expecting him to volunteer, but all Bucky really wants is to pass his N.E.W.T.S. and maybe twist The Ministerâs arm into passing the bill about guaranteed pay for House Elves. That is until he spots Merlinâs gift to man sitting at the Gryffindor table. Then things get complicated.
Last Update: 2016
Fandom & Main Pairing: Captain America (MCU) ; Stucky
Personal Notes: Itâs rare that I actually enjoy Hogwarts AUâs and Iâve kinda dropped out of the Captain American fandom so, while this IS really well done, Iâm just not interested in it anymore.
Part Of Your World by Jenetica
Summary:Â Derek's a werewolf. Stiles is a merman. They're not supposed to work.Luckily, they're both determined to prove that particular fact false.Sequel to "Sea Foam and Sunshine."
Last Update: 2014
Fandom & Main Pairing: Teen Wolf ; Sterek
Personal Notes: This is the second part in a series and you should def read the first one itâs fucking great. The second one is also good but...you know. Not gonna be finished ever so.
Knot Your Playmate by Halzbarry
Summary:Â He quickly closed his laptop and laid back on his bed. Somehow heâd convinced himself to not only sign up for an online ABO hookup website, but to also meet up with not one, but two alphas to potentially sleep with and get him through his heat. AU where Stiles is an omega, and has to sign up for an online ABO dating website to find an alpha to bring him through his heat, and possibly be a match so he doesn't flunk out of high school and get sent to remedial school because of Harris. What he doesn't expect is to find two mated alphas looking for an omega, and for feelings to start getting involved. Notice: Fic is on indefinite hiatus and is no longer being worked on.
Last Update: 2015
Fandom & Main Pairing: Teen Wolf ; Derek x Stiles x Parish
Personal Notes: .......LISTEN. ITâs GOOD OKAY????
Last To Know by Never_Says_Die
Summary:Â Kink meme fill in which every werewolf and shapeshifter in Beacon Hills is aware that Stiles is pregnant before he is. And apparently the first baby!werewolf being born into the pack (their Alpha's, no less) is a big freakin' deal and excuse enough for everyone to lose their damn minds. When Stiles figures out why everyone's been acting so weird around him, he's not amused.Â
Last Update: 2013
Fandom & Main Pairing: Teen Wolf ; Sterek
Personal Notes: This one is basically finished, like, itâs 21 of 22 chapters but the 22nd chapter would have mostly been just putting a bow on it, itâs already wrapped you know? Itâs a really good fic I really love it, I should honestly just reblog it in itâs own right but Iâve already gone through the trouble of formating it so fuck it.
Lonely Road by CranApplePye
Summary:Â Stiles is running from things he doesn't want to face. Derek is running from a past he cannot leave behind. Their paths collide on a lonely stretch of road when Stiles' car breaks down and Derek is the only mechanic on hand. An unexpected closeness develops, but both men are harboring secrets and Stiles may have just found the one person whose luck runs worse than his own. When the past catches up with the future, it may be one collision that neither of them can survive, and it may end up pulling everyone they love down with them.As everything begins to unravel, choices must be made. Stiles must decide how far he's able to go to protect the people he cares about, and what he'll do when he hits his breaking point. Derek must decide whether he can overcome a lifetime of betrayal enough to trust in someone again, and what he's willing to sacrifice if he is. And Scott and Allison must decide what it means to stand by your friends, and what price they are each willing to pay to do what is right.
Last Update: 2015
Fandom & Main Pairing: Teen Wolf ; Sterek
Personal Notes: I AM REALLY MAD THIS NEVER GOT FINISHED. SUCH A COMPELLING STORY. SUCH A FRESH TAKE ON WHAT THE CANON COULD HAVE BEEN. AAAAAAAAAAAAH.
Lost In The Flood by Skaboom
Summary:Â When social services finally barges in and takes Isaac away from his father, granting custody to his aunt, Isaac gets the first good night's sleep he's had since his mother died, but that doesn't mean that everything is easy from there on out. There's a lot of lingering damage, and with everyone gossiping about him at school, it's hard to find someone to turn to, but with the help of a caring Aunt, a great therapist, and an unexpected friendship with Stiles, a kid on his lacrosse team, Isaac might finally be on the right path.
Last Update: 2017
Fandom & Main Pairing: Teen Wolf ; Stisaac
Personal Notes: Another sad goodbye, there has never been enough Stisaac fic in this fandom for me so seeing what few good fics there were go unfinished is particularly bitter to me.

I practically read through the entirety of the STAR WARS Rare Pair 2018 Exchange and, jeez, this fandom just has its hooks in me so hard, I love these characters and this world and the wonderful creativity of the fandom! I may often go back to the same tropes that I always love, but thereâs also always something new and interesting, some new corner to explore, some new character or relationship to give focus to, some new AU to help fix things. Total Words Posted 2018: 269,752!
Total Works: 64Â works in 3 fandoms (sorta, it was all Star Wars and then I wrote one crossover fic that was Not Star Wars At All and picked up the other two) with 40Â different pairings.
As compared to last years: 253,511 words, 25 works, 3 fandoms, 8 different pairings.
Compare/Contrast between this year and the last: Roughly the same wordcount! SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT pairing and work count! I remain Mostly Stuck in Star Wars Land.Â
Major thing I learned this year: My range! This year I wrote fics from 500 words to over 50k, with wildly different genres, focuses, and narrative goals. In this, I feel like I have to talk about Stone and Sand, my first novel-length fic that is actually one coherent story. Knowing I can do that was...huge, and itâs also the fic Iâve done some of the most worldbuilding on. Itâs made me grow as a writer, and Iâm tremendously chuffed by it.Â
Also! I did my first exchange! Now that Iâm more aware of exchange culture itâll be interesting to see how that impacts things.
How I did on my Goals for Last Year:Â My goal was to write shorter pieces, and I DID! I wrote 27 works that were just around 500 words! I feel like I got better at distilling a scene.
Goals for the Coming Year:Â Go back to my ongoing series. I hope to update Bodhi Lives (I have...two stories I can tell before IX comes out and I need to figure out how much Iâm going to stick to canon in the future universe). I also hope to work on a MASSIVE modern AU that Iâve been picking at, actually get that out into the universe. Iâve also discovered I really enjoy writing fic as gifts, so probably spacing out the longer series with shorter gift works. We shall see.Â
Under the readmore is a round-up of the fics I wrote in 2018, divided by fandom, then series, and if theyâre not in a series, by event, and if none of the above apply, by ship or main characters.Â
l donât have a good statistic to sum it up, but the widening and deepening of my fandom friendships has been a continuing joy. Thank you all for being a part of that!
If youâve been reading my work, talk to me!
Whatâs been a favorite story? Most unexpected? What was the first thing of mine you read? What are you hoping Iâll write more of in 2019?
Note: Titles are links to the series and works.
Star Wars - New Series
Stone and Sand Verse (Bodhi and Lukeâs relationship in a universe where both Bodhi and Jedha live, Bodhi/Luke - 69,410 words)Â
Stone and Sand - (Bodhi/Luke) (52,318 words) - Bodhi goes back to Jedha, Luke tags along, a love story between two people and a place. Â
Coming Flood - (Bodhi/Luke) (859 words) - Established Relationship fluff, with some political worldbuilding on the side.Â
Different Deserts - (Luke & Rey) (15022 words) - Luke goes to Jakku to find a Sith artifact, and he finds a bit more than he expected.Â
For Those that Read Stone and Sand - A meta for the series, explaining the setup I worked out for how the canon diverged, and some of Bodhi and Lukeâs backstory.
Lyra Lives (An AU take on what would have happened if Lyra Erso had decided to stay with Jyn at the start of Rogue One - In Progress, 48,315 words at the end of 2018)Â
Troublesome as Ever - (Jyn & Lyra Erso, Lyra Erso/Galen Erso) (17189 words) - A retelling of Rogue One, with an alive Lyra Erso.Â
Traitors and Liars - (Galen Erso & Cassian Andor) (2515 words) - Galen and Cassian have a conversation about the whole âThat one time I tried to kill youâ thing.
Critical Flaws - (Galen Erso/Lyra Erso/Bodhi Rook) (In progress - 28611 words as of the end of 2018)Â
Modern Pilots (Poe/Luke as airline pilots, good friends, casual lovers, and maybe something more? - 22,396 words)Â
Eight Hours to OâHare - (Poe/Luke) (7335 words) - After eight solid hours of sass from his mouthy first officer, Captain Luke Skywalker takes Poe back to the hotel for a very thorough dressing-down.Â
Six Hours to La Guardia - (Poe/Luke) (15061 words) - The prequel to the above, showing the first time Poe and Luke spent some time together. You can honestly read these in either order, but this was the order they were written in.Â
Star Wars - Continuing Series (Started in Prior Years)
Merrick/Draven (Antoc Merrick, fighter pilot, and Davits Draven, spy, are fighting the same war in very different ways -Â 8,077 words in total)Â
Who Pays the Cost - (Merrick/Daven & Cassian) (500 words)Â - Merrick, Draven, and the problem of child soldiers. (Seriously, good Lord Star Wars, there are so many child soldiers in your universe!)Â
Time Enough for Mourning - (Merrick/Draven) (2191 words) - Sorrow, Joy, and what happens to Draven after Merrick meets his canonical fate during Rogue One.Â
And in the Morning, Joy - (Merrick/Draven) (1988 words) - I made myself sad so I had to go write a fix-it. Merrick, Draven, and what happens to them during ANH when Merrick does NOT meet his canonical fate.Â
What We Know - (Merrick/Draven) (2352 words) - The spy and the flyboy consider life after war, and when exactly a war ends.Â
Bodhi Lives Short Stories (technically two different series because I have DREAMS of expanding and discussing further, but Iâm not there yet)Â
Impending Demise - (Bodhi & K-2SO) (832 words) - Bodhi and Kay play chess.Â
No Better Plans - (Bodhi & K-2SO) (497 words) - In another universe, Bodhi and Kay become pirates. This one has art because I fell in love with the image of Bodhi with gold and purple hair.Â
Choices and Changes (My sprawling Modern AU, featuring cops turned nurses and gangsters turned cops, in 2018 I wrote some short stories to better fill in the universe)Â
Impatience - (Bodhi/Cassian) (1742 words) - A lazy, suggestive morning in bed. There is no sex. This is the most overtly sexual thing I have written that does not actually include any sex.Â
Friends and Lovers - (Bodhi/Cassian, Background Ahsoka/Padme) (6846 words) - Cassian tells Bodhi a story about what happened during their years apart.
Favorite Cover - (Bodhi/Cassian) (490 words) - Bodhi and Cassian make out in a closet...to maintain their cover, of course.Â
Year after Year - (Ahsoka/Padme) (500 words) - I loved them so much I had to write their story too, framed through Christmases together.Â
Star Wars: Events
February Ficlet Challenge - write a different pairing for every day in February! (Note, where appropriate, I grouped the ficlets with their appropriate series, instead of here, though this link will take you to the entire series page)
Additional Note: Each of these ficlets is right about 500 words, so I will not be including a wordcount.Â
Nightmare Scenario - (Luke/Bodhi) - No power, no heat, Luke and Bodhi stuck in the black.Â
Good and Bright - (Cassian/Jyn) - Some nights, Cassian trusts Jyn to take control.
The Things You Miss - (Obi-Wan/Chirrut/Baze) - Masquerades are an interesting opportunity.Â
Knock-Off Jedi - (Cassian/Luke) - Theyâre about the same height, and Cassian has cause to regret this.Â
Strange Customs - (Kes/Shara) - What happens to an accidental marriage trope when the people are already married?
Kiss the Sky - (Antoc Merrick/Luke Skywalker) - Merrick, an innocent bystander, gets pulled into the younger pilotâs initiation rituals.Â
Easy Mark - (Bodhi/Jyn) - Bodhiâs still not sure if Jyn likes him or just thinks heâs an easy mark.Â
Pebble - (Lyra/Galen) - Superpowered / Fantasy AU, Krennic makes a play for Galen, and very much underestimates Lyra.Â
Out of Turn -Â (Leia/Bodhi) - The Death Star is a horrible thing thing to share, but they share it.
Kitchenette - (Wedge/Mon) - They find their peace with each other.Â
Gentle Grace - (Leia/Amilyn) - Thereâs not much room for softness in Leiaâs life anymore.Â
Where Did You Get A Ring? - (Wedge/Cassian) - A fake engagement makes for a pretty good cover.Â
A Pilot First - (Wedge/Poe) - Wedge is a senator now, and there are precious few people in his life that see him as a pilot first.Â
Explain This to Me - (Obi-Wan/Owen/Beru) - Thereâs a bleeding man on Beruâs couch, and she would really like to know why. Â
A Fine Distraction - (Biggs/Bodhi) - After Scarif and the Battle of Yavin, Bodhi and Biggs carry similar scars.Â
Newest Muse - (Cassian/Poe/Bodhi) - Artist!AU, Bodhi tries his best to steal C. Andorâs newest muse.Â
Stranger while Slouching - (Wedge/Leia) - Wedge isnât sure what Leia looks like when sheâs actually relaxed.Â
A Gentle Man - (Bail/Obi-Wan) - Their time together is a fiction, but itâs a fiction they both enjoy tremendously.Â
To Better Memories - (Wedge/Bodhi) - They experienced the same Empire, very differently. Â
Teeth Aren't Supposed to Ache - (Bodhi/Galen) - Bodhi gets the flu.Â
Supposed to be Romantic - (Biggs/Luke) - Luke really doesnât understand the concept of picnics.Â
Mine to Claim - (Cassian/Leia) - Fairytale AU, The Princess is in the tower, but nobody is expecting the spy.Â
Tell Me a Secret - (Wedge/Luke) - Wedge, Luke, and secrets shared through the years.Â
Star Wars Rare Pairs Exchange - a gift exchange for lesser-written Star Wars Pairings, aka a two-month BLITZ of writing A LOT OF FIC (October and November).
A Body of Unanswered Questions - (Davits Draven/Mon Mothma) (770 words) - Mostly featuring Dravenâs existential crisis, also featuring smut.
A Series of Better Decisions - (PadmĂ© Amidala/Obi-Wan Kenobi/Anakin Skywalker) (9,211 words) - Revenge of the Sith is less tragedy and more comedy, because Anakin Skywalker is less evil and more of justâŠa disaster bisexual.
Beyond the Clouds - (Lando Calrissian/Biggs Darklighter/Luke Skywalker) (23277 words) - Luke and Lando are both reeling from the events of ESB, but are slowly building something with each other. The news that Biggs Darklighter, Lukeâs childhood love, is alive is amazing news, but it does make their relationship more complicated.Â
Bury Your Heart - (Leia Organa/Han Solo/Wedge Antilles) (9051 words) - Leiaâs heart is torn between her duty and her love, and agrees to an arranged marriage for the sake of Alderaanâs survivors. To her surprise, her old friend Wedge Antilles is on the list of acceptable candidates.
Decent Organics - (Cassian Andor/K-2SO, Lando Calrissian/L3-37) (2541 words) - Snarky droids, and the organics that love them. L3-37 is trying to get under Cassianâs skin, and Cassian enjoys it tremendously. Â
Hang With You for a Minute - (Bodhi Rook/Luke Skywalker) (3883 words) - Bodhi is trying to get away from a clingy ex-boyfriend, and asks a random adorable blond for help.
Heat Heals - (Finn/Luke Skywalker) (2002 words) - Two kind people find a bit of comfort in each other, and also discuss the cultural construction of the idea of attraction.Â
Reckless Idiot - (Wedge Antilles/Tycho Celchu) (1530 words) - Semi-Public sex with some Power DynamicsâŠand also a lot of emotions about pilot lifespans and the worthwhile but difficult reality of love during wartime.
The Survivor - (Cassian Andor/Shara Bey/Kes Dameron) (13,667 words) - Shara Bey drags Cassian off of Scarif, much to his chagrin. And then she and Kes decide to look after Cassian, as they donât trust him to look after himself.Â
Waystation - (Poe Dameron/Bodhi Rook) (12,763 words) - Pre-TFA, Poe Dameronâs ship getsâŠa little bit damaged, and he has to pull into a space station. The mechanic there has a familiar name. Itâs on the tip of his tongue. Maybe something out of the stories Mama told him - daring heroes up against impossible odds.
Star Wars - Standalone Fics By Pairing
Bodhi/Wedge
Not Too Much - (4625 words) - Wedge is convinced that he is probably not the best person to be in a relationship with.Â

Luke/Wedge
Marriage, and Other Unorthodox Solutions - (29,541 words) - Luke is ready to give up on the college of his dreams, because his aunt and uncle couldnât afford tuition. Wedge has a different, slightly unorthodox, solution...
Bodhi/Han
Sit Down and Buckle Up - (2538 words) - When Han Solo finds himself hit over the head with a blackjack he's got no choice but to turn the piloting of his precious Falcon over to one Bodhi Rook. Bodhi, it turns out, is a very good pilot. Han, it turns out, is really into that.

My Star Wars Rare Pairs Exchange gifts
I was lucky enough to have been given four wonderful gifts in the 2018 exchange - thank you so very much once more, lovely creators!
arbitration by @spookykingdomstarlight
T Qiâra/Cersei Lannister (Game of Thrones) âI apologize that I cannot bring myself to stay away,â Qiâra replied, honeyed words from a honeyed mouth. Cersei would have been lying if she were to say she was unmoved, but even so she did not have to admit to it. Not to Qiâra. Not to anyone. There were perks to being queen and keeping her business to herself was one of them.
Iâm Here To Care For You, Nothing Will Get You Here by @ladykatana4544
Not Rated Kalluzeb In which an old injury is bothersome in the cold and a knowing Zeb is there.
The Cape by Thymesis
G Orson Krennic/Landoâs Custom Red Cape Krennic pines for whom that which he cannot possess.
the notebook by @daisy4days
T Cassian Andor/Orson Krennic The task occupying Krennicâs attention at the moment is one Cassian has not seen in some time. Krennic is writing. By hand. On paper.

Star Wars Rare Pairs Exchange Letter 2018
Hey! While Iâm pretty sure I will love WHATEVER you make me, if you are in need / want of some advice, the following may be of interest to you:
In general, I like:Â pining, unrequited love that turns out not to be unrequited, people being friends & in love with each other generally, found family, ridiculous references, fic that explores what characters mean to each other in a greater context, alt!timeline shit (ie, what would happen if a character had made x choice instead of y), complicated relationships, baby/kid!fic, hurt/comfort.
Things I do not want:Â character bashing, unnecessary character death (ymmv here itâs Star Wars, characters die, I accept that, but please donât kill anyone off in the pairings, canonical deaths are fine), gratuitous / explicit violence, mundane!AUs (coffee!shop, high school/college, etc), dubcon/noncon in any form, cheating, first person POV.
General links that might be useful to you: my ao3 works, my fic writing tag, my ficlet tag, and my general star wars tag.Â
General note: I like characters, and relationships, best when theyâre situated in a world that feels real, and that means having other characters around them, and the relationships between them. While the pairings below should definitely be the focus of any fic, please feel free to slip in other things that you think I might like. I think whatâs below should give you an idea of that, hopefully :D. For instance, I adore Wedgeâs relationship / friendship with the rest of the Fab Four / his pilots in general, and I find the Han / Luke / Leia dynamic endlessly fascinating (both platonically and romantically on all sides), Iâm always up for guest appearances from anyone from any point in canon.
Wedge Antilles/Luke Skywalker
Would happily take anything, but specific loves include stuff with them founding Rogue Squadron and that early part of their relationship, where theyâre a little unsure and unfamiliar but still utterly trusting of each other? Or in the aftermath of Endor where Lukeâs off founding the Jedi Order and Wedge is off fighting the Imperial Remnant and theyâre trying to work out if they could have a relationship in all of that? I really love these two, the relationship between them really is one of my all-time faves.
I am also desperate for pre-and-post-TLJ era fic for them. What does Wedge make of Lukeâs choices and decisions? Did Wedge go with him to Ahch-To? If Wedge is present, how does that affect the choices Luke makes?
I would also sell my soul for Jedi Academy-era fic in which Wedge is a teacher at Lukeâs Jedi Academy, either with them in an established relationship and founding the school, or where Wedge gets involved somehow and slowly realises, oh, actually, Luke is very attractive and there is a lot of pining, and Luke is off having the same realisations about Wedge.
Wedge Antilles/Mara Jade/Luke Skywalker
In which Wedge Antilles and Mara Jade have precisely one thing in common: they both think that Luke Skywalker is endearing and also kinda useless, and would do anything for him. Which includes teaming up to save Luke when he gets into yet more trouble (insert situation of choice here) despite the fact that Mara is really not very convinced by this short fly-boy with floppy hair who cannot act, and Wedge is not really over the fact that Mara wanted to kill Luke. Bonus points for them discovering that they have far more in common than they think, and for Talon Karrde & Booster Terrik background shenanigans.
(Iâd be okay with platonic!wedge&mara, if you canât get that bit to work, but I would like Wedge and Mara to both be in love with Luke - or on their way there - and for Luke to love them both back.)
Wedge Antilles/Leia Organa
I think Wedge and Leia are very alike, in some ways - both soldiers with a sense of duty that goes far beyond themselves, whoâd sacrifice their personal lives for their ideals every time. So anything that builds on that, really; either early Alliance / Rebellion (pre / post Yavin), with Leia still trying to sort out her feelings for Han / Luke and working them out with the person who is the mid-ground between the two (fight me on this Wedge is Hanâs smuggling no-good self crossed with Lukeâs idealism and good!man nature), or possibly after the Jedi Temple Massacre, or post TLJ, where they are the last two left standing and seek solace in each other?
Also! If you have read the 2013 Marvel Star Wars comic (the Wood/DâAnda one), you should know I was so very very very weak for Leia as Squadron Commander and Wedge as her second, and I cannot believe that was an actual thing that happened in Legends okay??
Wedge Antilles/Han Solo
Okay I can hear you probably going âhuh whatâ and I submit to you these quotes from the X-Wing books, and actually the entirety of Solo Command as a book. Essentially, Corellians giving each other shit. But no seriously in Solo Command thereâs a real easiness and willingness to tease and Iâd be really interested as to how they got there, and if it ever was anything more.
Also, in new canon â Iâve always figured that Wedge and Han might have a bit of antagonistic start to their relationship, Wedge is much more of a believer and very willing to die for the cause â how does he react when he finds out what Han did in Solo? Aiding Enfys Nest? Does that change his feelings?
Wedge Antilles/Leia Organa/Han Solo
Okay so Wedge spends an astonishing amount of time in the X-Wing books putting Han and Leiaâs relationship back together (only for The Courtship of Princess Leia to happen, poor guy.) Like. Heâs really invested in it. And also half in love with both of them it seems.
But, what I really want ⊠is new canon, in which during the Aftermath trilogy Wedge ends up staying with Leia, and sort of never leaves, and even when Han comes back heâs still there, and then he helps out when Ben is born, because Wedge is very good with babies and this is a very important fact, and slowly Han and Leia realise, oh, wait, we never want him to leave.
I would also be very happy with drunken hook-ups, or Han and Leia accidentally propositioning Wedge.
Wedge Antilles/Biggs Darklighter
They must have known each other on Yavin, so itâs not inconceivable that they might have met and, yâknow, got it on. So quick and dirty introductions, or possibly even something set later, after the Death Star battle, where Biggs!lives and the two pilots who didnât get that shot off try and find solace in each other.
Wedge Antilles/Bodhi Rook
So â well, Wedge was at the Imperial Academy for a time, as was Bodhi, and although itâs unlikely they were in classes together, I think that their paths could have crossed; whatâs it like when they see each other on Yavin all those years later? If Bodhi is the only survivor of the Rogue One team, and Wedge is the only survivor of the original pilots (Luke is too new, really) do they find solace in each other? Do they only really catch up after the war with each other, and suddenly realise that no one else is quite going to understand their grief? (I am heavily into Wedge Antilles has a case of survivorâs guilt the size of a Star Destroyer this ship only compounds my feelings).
Wedge Antilles/Lando Calrissian
They took down a Death Star together, thatâs a start. I think the other thing about these two is theyâre both very set on keeping their people safe â Wedge with his pilots, Lando with the people of Cloud City, and they have principles and lines they wonât cross but theyâll go through hell and back to try and save as many as they can. So maybe something about that?
Wedge Antilles/Col "Fake Wedge" Takbright
I canât believe Jason Fry made âfake wedgeâ an actual thing, but IT HAPPENED, and so we should all take advantage of this glorious fact by making them kiss or something, I dunno, fill in the blanks.
On a semi-serious note, I actually really like the care between them at the end of that story, how Col takes one look at about-to-succumb-to-the-worst-survivorâs-guilt-wedge and just, doesnât stand for it. And so I would LOVE fic about all the times that Col keeps digging Wedge out of despair. Maybe about how Col turns into Wedgeâs most erstwhile defender, and Wedge keeps asking why Col keeps putting himself on the line for him, and realisations about how maybe whatâs between them has developed into something more.
Wedge Antilles/Mon Mothma
This was mostly crack, until I incepted myself with last yearâs rare pairs letter, and now I have very serious feelings about it and I want them to be in love. And have really good sex.
I think they are both serious impassioned people who want to do what is right, only Wedge is brash and daring and Mon is tempered by experience / diplomacy. So maybe something where Wedge does something reckless and Mon has to take him to task for it? Or Wedge trying to lure Mon out of her seriousness, but also he is a very serious person himself but seriously, Chancellor, you have been at your desk for twenty hours please come to the mess. Love letters â they write letters after the war and slowly fall in love?
Fucked-up power dynamics are also very much a feature: Mon is ultimately Wedgeâs commander in chief, his life is in her hands, etc. I like the power play, I like it a lot.
Wedge Antilles/Amilyn Holdo
Thereâs something about the way Amilyn reacts to flyboys doing stupid things, like she has seen it all before. Maybe she has? I feel these two would have really good banter and a very sparky relationship, lots of challenging each other. But also mutual respect, possibly found later â they are both very good at their jobs.
Iâd love fic set post-Rebellion era, where theyâre both trying to find their footing in the new Galaxy, or maybe fic set around TLJ â what if Wedge is with the Resistance? Does he conflict with Amilyn over her command decisions? (I think Amilyn should still have charge of the Resistance, donât make Wedge outrank her.) Can he mediate the conflict between her and Poe? What if Wedge is with the Republic and brings a fleet to save the day?
Wes Janson/Derek âHobbieâ Klivian
So Wes and Hobbie are like the ultimate wingpair / brothers-in-arms, they are two peas in a pod, and I love them. I like slow realisation of feelings, the dragging out of the relationship over the years, perhaps one of them pining away whilst the other one wakes up one day and is like âoh, itâs you, youâve been here all along and I never noticed.â But also! Comic shenanigans, prank wars between them, practical jokes, truth or dare - Iâm easy to please, honestly.
Jagged Fel/Jaina Solo/Zekk
Okay, for those who didnât go and read all of Legends⊠Jagged Fel is Wedge Antillesâ nephew, Jaina Solo was Han and Leiaâs daughter, and Zekk was one of Lukeâs students. There was a bit of a love triangle going on. However, in many points, it was less of a love triangle, and more⊠well. They should have all banged.
Key moments include that time Jaina and Zekk were in a hive mind, and got slightly confused over whose memories were whose, leading to this conversation:
Our boyfriend means business, Zekk observed.
Donât know that itâs him. And itâs old boyfriend.
Right. Weâre so over him.
We?
And also the bit in Legacy of the Force: Invincible, where after Jag and Zekk help pull Jaina out of a sticky situation, she, in a state of confusion due to her banged up head, asks them to both to bunk with her.
So, basically, I want poly shenanigans â fic after the proposed quarters sharing would be great (what if Jag and Zekk took her seriously and had already moved everything about by the time she came round???), messy relationship rebuilding after the Dark Nest fiasco, something where Zekk steps in as Jaina and Jagâs relationship starts to fall apart post NJO? I dunno. But I want them all to kiss.
Plourr Ilo/Evaan Verlaine
They are both kickass lady pilots, and they are both very gay, sooooooooo⊠it is a crime that they do not exist in the same canon. I want shenanigans. I want an encounter where one or both is undercover and they donât realise the other is a rebellion / new republic pilot until after everything. I want them on different squadrons trying to one up each other.

Hey everyone! It's that time of year again; the time of reflection and refocus for the upcoming year.
I was rereading my post from last year and I came across this little section; "If I were to focus on a word, or words possibly, for 2017âŠit would be ânew experiencesâ. Just to have the oppurtunity to say yes to new places, new events, something that youâve never really done before, something to help you gain more knowledge, insight, and your horizons. I want this year to be good. Thereâs a lot I need to learn and I hope itâll be this year". I can tell you right now that was the case, but it wasn't what I was expecting (isn't that how life usually goes?).
This year, 2017, has been stressful to say the least, and that seems to be theme, doesn't it? Whether it's been stressful for family, friends, personal; any and all forms of stress.
There's been a lot of financial stress this year that circled quite a bit around a person quitting their job without wondering how it affects others around them (they still haven't found a job or even looked for one either) and dealing with a big bank that definitely should NOT be in business (which I'm still confused how they're still running despite the many class action lawsuits against them).
There's also been some stress between family members in both immediate and extended. Rugs have been pulled out, verbal blows have been exchanged, and emotions have ran high. It's not good, but it's not getting worse (at least I hope not).
But in those stressful situations, there's been some pretty great times!
Here's my Year of 2017 in Review;
In January, I took the 30 Day Simplify Your Life Challenge put on by the wonderful muchelleb on YouTube. I decluttered not only my physical belongings, but the mental blocks too.
There wasn't really much happening in February that immediately sticks out to me, but I do know that March, I was able to to the Michigan Horse Expo down in Lansing! We even met the one and only Chris Cox too!
April comes around and the only thing that comes to mind is that I got a new pair of Sunglasses. I mean, it's not significant, but it's a good thing nonetheless.
May, wnderful May! My mom and Dad surprised me with not only the chance to go to Motor City Comic Con down in Novi (which was freaking amazing and also my first convention ever!), but also that they bought me my very own (and my first) laptop! I was blown away!
June steps up and that was the time that I went up north to spend some time with my Grandma D. since she wasn't doing the greatest. This was the time where I improved my cooking skills just a smidge. I got to spend some time offline and hang out with her and her dog, Patches (even wrote some chapters of my fic too!).
July soon follows and I'm still up north, enjoying myself. the Fourth comes and goes and soon after my Grandma and I head off to go check out the Thunder Bay Marine Sanctuary where we learned about the ship wrecks around the Bay and all around Michigan in the early days. This is also the time that I start using the "YOU" app as well as Instagram a little bit more.
August is the month where I'm back home. I water the neighbor's flowers for a couple weeks while they're on vacation to get just a bit more summer in before the Fall starts coming in. This is the month where I start planning out my to-do lists, monthly spreads, and my GYST (Get Your Shit Together, courtesy of Kalyn Nicholson) summaries in a black binder to help me keep track of what's going on in my life.
September rolls around and about halfway through I'm heading back up north to help my Grandma D. again. I don't mind going up there. I just wish she was closer (she's like 2 hours away) and that there was some decent wi-fi too. Nothing too much happened during this month (except that I missed Dad's B-day, but he didn't want to celebrate it for some odd reason).
October is up next and I'm still spending time up north. This was the month that Grandma D. and I checked out a Rehabilitation for Physical Therapy. We happened to find the right place and started going there on a weekly basis, unless it got to be too much due to the weather or overdoing it somehow the day before. I was with her through every step of the way until it was time for me to go home. Of course she's going to have some ups and downs, but I think if she keeps at it, it'll help quite a bit.
November has come with it's presence, but it held no memorable impression, unfortunately. But when it came to December, it was a happy month filled with close family spending time together. This was the month that a major change of getting away from the big bank that had us under its thumb for the last 12 years; we may not get all the money back we've had to shell out to them, but at least we're away from them altogether. And just recently, my family and I went to the movies and saw the new Star Wars movie; The Last Jedi! It was so cool to see, although it was a little too loud and some scenes made my chest rattle (which felt so weird). I haven't been to the movies since "War Horse" came out.
And in a 2018 Year to Come;
Writing â I want to finish drafting (not editing) my Second Ascension Trilogy; 4 months per Book
Arting â Practice the Habit of drawing regularly Work on Painting & Shading Create more Photomanips Test new brushes in both Paint Tool SAI and in Photoshop CC
Finance â Sell what I don't need or use Use my Credit Union account more often
Social â Connect & Hang out with Friends that I haven't seen in a long time Connect with new friends as well Check out some local events
Adult Responsibilities â Learn to Drive (still working on this) Check into Graphic Design as a career option, Learn more about it
Personal â Check into starting a Vlog Channel (this is a maybe) Learn more about Photography use Instagram & Stories more often Learn more about Tarot Check into some podcasts
This might be a lot at one time, but even if I happen to get through a third of this list, Iâll be more than happy!
I want 2018 to be a year filled with as much creativity and enjoyment as possible. My theme for 2018 is "Create". Create anything and everything to my heart's content. Create art, create writing, create moments and memories, create friendships and familial bonds.
And I want to create some great relationships with my followers and my mutuals. I want to get to know more about them, and I hope they feel the same way.
But I also want to highlight the amazing people I'm connecting with this year as well; @idreamofhazel, @theriverscribe, @nathyfaith, @spaceygh0st, @thechantelroyal, @bloodysideofhell, @super-fics, @cucumber-withanxiety, @timetraveldean, @zealous-whispers-of-us, @missjanuarylily, @kurosaki224-new-blog, @darknightfrombeyond, and @seenashwrite! And although there are some that I don't talk with every day, you guys are still important to me regardless.
And like in the previous New Yearsâ postsâ
Itâs time to look toward the future and all that it has in store for us. But thatâs not to say we canât look back, if only for a moment to gain a better insight on how to keep moving forward. I definitely would like to thank all of my followers; to those who like and reblog just about all of my posts, the ones who very seldom like and/or reblog anything of mine but still show their acknowledgement, the ones who only like my posts (yes, I see you), the ones who rarely get on tumblr anymore due to personal reasons, the ones who are on here every single day just blogging along, my mutuals, and for everyone in between. You guys are amazing, sweet, talented, wonderful â thereâs not even enough words to convey my gratitude for you all. You mean so much to me and I would not be here without any of you.
I want to wish every single one of my followers, bots and all, a very Happy New Year!
So here's to the end of 2017 with all it's ups and downs, crazy twists and out-of-nowhere turns, and here's the bright new beginning of 2018. Let's make 2018 unforgettable in the best possible way(s).
You got this! I know you can do it!

Let's talk about why we love it (so many reasons!), how it manages to keep turning its own premise with such skill, and what we hope for next season. The State of Bandom: 2018 (mods: aethel, Lucifuge5) Bandom in 2018 is a different beast from Bandom in 2007. (mods: bessyboo, exmanhater) Letâs talk STAR WARS! Originals, Prequels, Sequels, Rogue One, Clone Wars, Rebels, EUâwhich parts are you really feeling, and why? What do we love about it, what do we wince at about it, what do we wish we had fanworks about for it? Visit Themyscira (mods: cyborganize, metatxt) Share your Wonder Woman story, whether you're a movie lover, a Lynda Carter devotĂ©e, or a long-suffering comics fan. A conversation about the conversation about Wonder Woman: why we feel how we feel about her, what she represents, how she has been represented. Explore Diana's origin in the early 1940s (see: Professor Marston and the Wonder Women) and her fictional origin in the Amazon culture of Paradise Island / Themyscira, and why the character and her worlds are still relevant. Where Do We Go From Here? (mods: Minim_Calibre, cyborganize) As the Internet changes and sites rise and fall, how do we stay connected as a community? Can we? Fannish Osmosis Fic Exchange (mod: Scribe) Write a stranger the fic of their dreams...for a canon you only know about via hearsay! Other types of fanworks welcome, as long as they can be completed in about fifteen minutes; reading/sharing with the room is encouraged for maximum hilarity, but not mandatory. You Like My Thing Wrong (mod: bessyboo) You know that moment when youâre really into a popular thing, but you hate the popular pairing, or character, or fanon characterization? Or maybe youâve been into something for a million years and suddenly everyone else is on board too, but everything theyâre saying and creating is justâŠWRONG? Friends, let us get together and discuss strategies for taking a breath, chilling out, and avoiding feeling like horrible fandom hipsters or Bitter Old Fandom Queens when other people just Like Our Thing Wrong. Cest is Best (mods: bessyboo, metatxt) Incest and step/pseudocest have seen a rise in popularity recently in the mainstream, from Game of Throne to Billy & Billie to The Flash, but they've been popular in fandom for over a decade. What's the continued appeal of incest in fandom? And why do you think it's starting to hit more mainstream popularity now? Do you have limits on what you will or won't read--and has that changed? Are you here for the sitcom fluff, the dirtybadwrong angst, or something in between? Let's talk about fandom's fondness for keepin' it in the family! Feelings Are The Worst (mod: jedusaur) Emotions run high when you care a whole lot, and fandom is all about caring a whole lot. Let's talk about different types and contexts of fannish feelings, what sparks and alters our fannish interests, how and why conflicts arise in fandom, what feelings even are (your mod will make a sincere effort not to derail the conversation too far into the intricacies of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex), and what situations lead to fandom obsession, frustration, gradual indifference, and loving everyone in this whole damn bar. Alphas, Omegas, Doms, & Subs: Alternate Gender System Tropes (mods: krytella, keerawa) Why do A/B/O, BDSM AU, and other AUs that play with alternate gender designation have such strong appeal? Do they provide a safer space to eroticize gendered oppression, create a dystopian critique of gendered oppression, or both at once? Are slash gender system AUs an expression of internalized misogyny or badly written female characters or something else entirely? Do slash and femslash uses if this trope serve to straighten the queer relationships they depict? How about alpha/alpha and omega/omega stories, or D/s AUs centering switches? Wait, we only have 50 minutes? Documenting Fandom (mod: aethel) Fans have been writing down the history of fandom since fandom began. Let's discuss the various ways and reasons that fans document fandom! And also Fanlore. Speed Dating Small Fandoms (mods: metatxt, cyborganize) A semi-structured con-game where we share and explore why we love the small fandoms we love. By generating a creative categorization structure, together we will match-make fans with new small fandoms relevant to their interests. Our goal is for everyone to leave with a new fandom to date and a new fan joining one of their small fandom faves. TECH AND WORKSHOP A Song and a Dream: Now What? (mods: SDWolfpup, scribe) You've got the perfect song for your fandom - what's next? How do you get source? What do you do with mkv files? Square pixels? Frame rates?! To outline or not to outline? Do I really need a clip database? Let's talk about it all! Break on Through: Getting Beyond the Block (mods: Minim Calibre, thewightknight) Come share tips and tricks for defeating a creative block. Why We Write: Fandom Needs You! (mod: keerawa) This panel is aimed at aspiring writers, experienced writers dipping their toes into fanfiction, fanfic writers who've been going through a dry patch, or anyone looking to get the creative juices flowing. Topics will vary based on the participants, but might include how to start, where to find cheerleaders and betas, where to post, how to get over that hump and throw ourselves into writing something we and other fans will love. I'm sure the FBI has a file on me: research and fandom (mod: Minim Calibre) Ever find yourself needing to know the marriage requirements in places you'll never live? In-depth information on weaponry? Best ways to hide a body? And, of course, sex tips you may or may not ever need. Come share your tales of research gone wild and/or pick up research tips and tricks from your fellow fans. Oral Not!Fic (mod: bessyboo) In this workshop, weâll define what oral not!fic is, talk a little about how to create it, and then finish up by creating an oral not!fic before the panel is over! Cosplay 101 (mod: bessyboo) Have you ever wanted to get into cosplay, but werenât sure how or where to start? This panel is for you! Weâll discuss strategies for choosing/designing a character & outfit, and putting together a costume (for both DIY & âI am 0% craftyâ options!) The Best Movies on Amazon Prime Video in India
Amazon Prime Video's movie acquisitions might not have the same international depth as Netflix, but it's undoubtedly stronger and richer in its local variety, with its titles spanning the Tamil, Telugu, and the Malayalam world of filmmaking in addition to Bollywood. And that's matched with a powerful collection of American imports, to deliver a collection that can more than stand its ground against the world's biggest streaming service. It lacks with its original efforts â a few are present below, for what it's worth â but it's also a lot more affordable at Rs. 999 per year, versus Netflix's Rs. 650 a month. To pick the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, we relied on Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and IMDb ratings to create a shortlist. The last of them was preferred for Indian films given the shortfalls of reviews aggregators in that department. Additionally, we used our own editorial judgement to add or remove a few. This list will be updated once every few months if there are any worthy additions or if some movies are removed from the service, so bookmark this page and keep checking in. Goodbye to the Sigh Guy: A Tribute to Tab Hunter, 1931-2018
When Tab Hunter was at the apex of his stardom in the Fifties, virtually every aspect of his career and life was under the control of a Hollywood studio system that determined everything from the roles that he would play to his very name. As a result of this, he had a few years of fame before he was inevitably pushed to the side for a new wave of hot young things ready to take his place. And yet, it was the very things about him that the system sought to repressâsuch as a sly, self-effacing sense of humor and his homosexualityâthat helped breathe new life into his career a couple of decades down the line. Now that he has left us, three days before his 87th birthday, Hunter will be remembered not just as a pretty face with an admittedly memorable name. He'll also be celebrated as a trailblazer whose accounts of his experiences as a gay matinee idol in Hollywood at a time when such things were unheard of helped pave the way for acceptance.
He was born Arthur Andrew Kelm in New York City on July 11, 1931 and, following his parents divorce a few years later, moved to California with his mother and older brother. After taking his motherâs surname of Gellen, he competed as a figure skater and even joined the Coast Guard at the age of 15, though he was soon discharged once his real age was discovered. The turning point in his life came when he made the acquaintance of actor Dick Clayton, who suggested that he take up acting as well and who later introduced him to agent Henry Wilson. Wilson, who specialized in guiding the careers of actors whose talents were, more often than not, secondary to their looksâhis clients included the likes of Robert Wagner, Guy Madison and, most famously, Rock Hudsonâsigned him on despite his lack of acting experience and even gave him his soon-to-be-famous stage name. He made his screen debut with a tiny role in the film noir âThe Lawlessâ (1950) and had his first lead role two years later with âIsland of Desireâ (1952), a soapy romance in which he played a Marine stranded on an abandoned South Pacific island with an older nurse (Linda Darnell). The film wasnât much but it was a minor hit back in the day for reasons attributed almost entirely to the fact that he spent much of the running time bare-chested. Over the next couple of years, he appeared in such programmers as âGun Beltâ (1953), âThe Steel Ladyâ (1953) and âReturn to Treasure Islandâ (1954) and also made his first stage appearance in a production of âOur Town.â
Hunterâs first truly notable film performance came in 1954 when he was hired to play the key supporting role of Robert Mitchumâs younger brother in William Wellmanâs frontier-based psychodrama (and future cult favorite) "Track of the Cat" (pictured above). Yes, I am aware of the potential absurdity of casting Mitchum and Hunter as brothers, but it actually works surprisingly well. Hunter more than holds his own in it acting against the likes of such veterans as Mitchum and Theresa Wright. At this point, Hunter was sufficiently hot enough to earn him a contract with Warner Brothers that first saw him playing a small part in the John Wayne war drama âThe Sea Chaseâ (1955) and then wooing another older woman, Dorothy Malone this time, in âBattle Cryâ (1955). Both films were among the top-grossers of the year and the studio decided to promote him to leading man status by co-starring him with Natalie Wood in a pair of films, âThe Burning Hillsâ and âThe Girl He Left Behind.â He even transferred his screen stardom to the music world with the hit song âYoung Love,â which was #1 for nine weeks in 1957, and the #11 charting follow-up âNinety-Nine Ways.â His singing success was so great that Warner Brothers studio head Jack L. Warner forbade Dot Records, who Hunter had been recording for, from releasing an album he had cut because of his contract and established Warner Brothers Records specifically as an outlet for his music.
During all of this, Hunterâs personal life was beginning to become a source of some controversy within the industry. In 1955, the scandal sheet Confidential ran an article about a 1950 disorderly conduct arrest that also included numerous innuendos regarding the actorâs sexuality. (Ironically, the article ran because Wilson arranged with the magazine to print that in exchange for keeping a story about the more-popular Rock Hudson buried.) This revelation did not have any discernible effect on Hunterâs rise but it did open up gossip about whether he was gay or notâif he was, that would have effectively killed his career right in its tracks. To combat this, the studio publicity department went into overdrive to convince the public that he was as manly as can be, hyping up non-existent relationships with such women as Wood, Debbie Reynolds, future co-star Etchika Choureau and Joan Perry, the widow of Harry Cohn. There were even rumors of impending marriage with the latter two but while all of this was supposedly happening, he was in the middle of relationships with the likes of Anthony Perkins and figure skater Ronnie Robertson.Â
1958 would prove to be the apex of his career. He reunited with William Wellman to star in âLafayette Escadrille,â in which he played an American pilot who goes to France to fly for the country during World War Iâwhen preview audiences objected to his characterâs death, the ending was reshot so that he lived. He followed that up with a role as Van Heflinâs hot-headed son in the Western âGunmanâs Walk,â a part that he would cite as his personal favorite. His next film would prove to be one of his most notable, the big-screen version of the Broadway musical hit âDamn Yankeesâ (pictured above) that saw him playing Joe Hardy, the magical incarnation of a middle-aged man who has sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for his beloved Washington Senators, with his help, to beat the New York Yankees for the pennant. Hunter was the only major member of the cast who was not part of the original stage incarnation and indeed, he would later complain that director George Abbott (who made the film along with Stanley Donen) was more interested in replicating what he did on stage than in making it a movie. Perhaps as a result of this, Hunter gets a little bit of the short shrift (especially with the removal of a couple of his songs) in the end product. Still, Hunter more than holds his own in a film that is a reasonably solid film version of a stage classic.
After a couple more films, including the war movie âThey Came to Corduraâ (1959) and the romantic drama âThat Kind of Woman,â in which he co-starred opposite Sophia Loren for up-and-coming director Sidney Lumet, Hunter elected to end his contract with Warner Brothers in order to get better offers on his own. This proved to be a mistake as he now had no studio with an interest in promoting him and newer stars like Troy Donahue were being groomed for the same heartthrob roles over which he once held sway. After failing to win the lead in the film version of âWest Side Story,â he moved to television with âThe Tab Hunter Showâ (1960), a sitcom featuring him as a hip and swinging bachelor that had middling ratings and was cancelled after a single season. For the next couple of decades, he found himself making guest appearances on such shows as âCombat!,â âThe Virginian,â âCannon,â âMcMillan & Wife,â âForever Fernwoodâ and âThe Love Boat.â He also found himself appearing in such second-tier films as âOperation Bikiniâ (1963), âRide the Wild Surfâ (1964), âBirds Do Itâ (1966), âWon Ton Ton: The Dog Who Saved Hollywoodâ (1976) and the immortal âKatie: Portrait of a Centerfoldâ (1979). He tried changing things up a couple of times but these efforts led to nothingâhe appeared on Broadway in the Tennessee Williams play âThe Milk Train Doesnât Stop Here Anymoreâ in 1964 but it lasted only five performances and his attempt at shattering his image by playing a sexually dysfunctional psycho killer in âSweet Killâ (1972) was a dud that is notable today only for marking the directorial debut of Curtis Hanson. He had a funny bit in the dark comedy âThe Loved Oneâ (1965) and was good in the Western âThe Life and Times of Judge Roy Beanâ (1972) but at this point, it seemed as if his career was destined to be stuck in a rut of crummy TV movies, forgettable features and the dinner theater circuit.
And then, true redemption and reinvention finally came Hunterâs way in the unexpected form of John Waters, best known then for the cheerfully demented underground cult films as âPink Flamingosâ (1972) and âFemale Troubleâ (1974) that he made in collaboration with the force of nature known as Divine. His next project, âPolyester,â was going to be an overt spoof of the Fifties-era soap operas made by the likes of Douglas Sirk. For the role of Tod Tomorrow, the handsome hunk who sweeps unloved and ignored housewife Francine Fishpaw (Divine) off her feet, Waters hit upon the idea of casting an actual star from that era in the part. Considering the notorious nature of Watersâs previous effortsâthis was his first project aimed at a broader audienceâsigning on for such a thing would have been regarded as a huge risk, especially since this would be the first time that Waters had ever worked with a ârealâ actor. Nevertheless, Hunter took on the part and was pretty brilliant in it, demonstrating a flair for comedy and self-parody that he rarely was allowed to show in his movie star heyday. Not only that, he and Divine actually managed to generate a kind of chemistry between that helped to further sell the story. The idea of hiring Hunter may have seemed like a gimmick at first but it proved to be a genuinely winning and effective one and the end result is arguably Watersâs best film to date.
Although not a smash hit, âPolyesterâ got a lot of attention for Hunter and this was parlayed into a string of roles, many of which also goofed on his former image. In âGrease 2â (1982), he plays substitute teacher Mr. Stuart and leads the now-infamous âReproductionâ musical numberâthe film is bottomlessly horrible (though still preferable to the even-worse original) but that sequence is one of the few moments when it actually comes to life. That same year, Hunter then turned up in the silly mad slasher spoof âPandemoniumâ and then reunited with Divine for âLust in the Dustâ (1985), a Western comedy that he produced and which was directed by Paul Bartel (and not Waters, as many have assumed). The movie is pretty silly and nowhere nearly as good as âPolyesterâ but he gets to goof of the Man with No Name image of Clint Eastwood (his former âLafayette Escadrilleâ co-star) and he and Divine are still fun to watch, especially with the addition of Lainie Kazan to the mix. He and Divine would turn up again in the thriller âOut of the Darkâ (1988) and he would also appear in the horror filmâs âCameronâs Closetâ (1988) and âGrotesque.â His last feature film was âDark Horseâ (1992), a gentle family drama about a girl and her horse that he also wrote the story for.
Then came the unexpected third act of his career. In 2005, he, along with co-author Eddie Muller, wrote his autobiography, Tab Hunter Confidential, in which he acknowledged that he was gay and described the lengths to which he and the studio went in order to keep his true sexuality completely under wraps. At the time, such revelations were still considered to be shocking, especially coming from someone who was still alive, and the book became an instant best-seller. The book also became the basis for the acclaimed 2015 documentary of the same name that was produced by Hunterâs longtime partner, Allan Glaser, and which featured interviews with the likes of Waters, Eastwood and Reynolds, among others. The end result, like the book, was a fascinating portrait not just of Hunter but of the studio system that spawned him and then spat him out when it was done with him. And yet, Hunter seemed to bear no particular grudge against the industry and would turn up as a talking head in a number of documentaries on the history of Hollywood in his later years.
Was Hunter a great actor in the conventional sense of the word? Probably not, though to be fair, he was rarely given a chance to do much more than look handsome. However, he did have a flair for comedy that he was unfortunately not really given a chance to demonstrate until long after his heyday. His name will always instantly invoke a style of filmmaking that has long since passed, and it will also be remembered among members of the LGBTQ community for his struggles within the industry. It may be a cliche to say but in this case, it is trueâthe passing of Hunter really is the end of an era.
