Here’s the explanation for fellow baby witches:
Alright so every Australian knows Halloween happens in Spring. Pumpkins are crazy expensive since they're not in season, we have no orange leaves, and Samhain meaning ‘the end of summer’ is not accurate. We also have like, nothing to harvest (as Samhain is a harvest festival) except flowers, because it's still basically winter.
I've mentioned before that if I celebrate the Wheel of the Year, I'll generally celebrate it opposite to the Northern Hemisphere. But I've decided to mix Beltain (celebrated on the 31st of October in the Southern Hemisphere if following the seasonal calendar) and Samhain (celebrated on the 30th of April, reasons as above), so I can still express Samhain through Halloween with the rest of the world.
So these are some basic and creative diy ideas for a Spring Samhain and Beltain crossover, all inspired by brookestyless post on instagram.
Not sure if I'll have the chance to try all of them, but if you do, add the hashtags #springsamhain and #springhalloween so other Southern Hemisphere witches can be inspired! Also, feel free to tag me because I'd love to see how you all celebrate.

might fuck around and start following the wheel of the year again
#probably not. my attention span is so bad#but it'd be good for me#I don't think I have enough sincere belief in The Other left in me to do neopaganism on a meaningfully religious level anymore#but keeping track of and making very intentional connection with the changing of seasons and phases of the moon#and doing little rituals about it#would fix me I think#although the PROBLEM. that I've had in the past with Wheel Of The Year™ is that the popular one follows. like. ancient irish seasons#'the second of february is the beginning of spring' no the fuck it isn't!! lambing season isn't relevant to me OR local natural history!!#I like a solstices/ equinoxes/ And In Between approach to When to do observances#and honestly I don't mind a celtic/ pseudoceltic approach to celebrating them IN THEORY#I'd just like to adjust it to ACTUALLY connect me to the land I'm a part of instead of like. you know.#completely superficial trappings of In Tune With Nature that doesn't take nature into account at all#'samhain is The Harvest and Preparing For The Winter' okay that's fine for ME but there are people who live in florida#why do we keep asserting these points of the year as if they're universally applicable...#.... A TANGENT. ANYWAY. more excuses to burn incense and light little fires and also feel GROUNDED IN TIME SOMEWHAT I'M ALWAYS SO UNMOORED-#me: god I love themed decor and food and scents and activities and aesthetics but I never want to Throw A Party#me age seventeen: um hi hello yes can I interest you in. seasonal altars.#about me

It's Beltane here (Australia), but, more than that, it's the mid-point of Kambarang (The Season of Birth). And, although it's traditionally Samhain in the Northern Hemisphere, we also celebrate Halloween as a holiday despite it currently being the height of Spring. It's topsy-turvy down here.
This is a time to educate the young, to respect the elders, and to honour the departed. It is a time of first steps, of last breaths, and of journeys beyond and back again.

EPISODE #203: SAMHAIN STORIES FOR ALL HALLOWS' EVE
Here comes the ancient festival of Halloween, as the world begins to die again … as it does at the tail end of every year. The leaves fall and decay, the green things wither, the sun hides away. And we remember the Dead. Tonight: Samhain tales of changelings and fire, and the Holy Mountain along the Mexican-American borderland. New (& classic!) soundscapes by RedBlueBlackSilver. Honestly, I'm so bored with the Night Court.
They have no culture. The only holidays they celebrate are a random party with stars in the sky (with zero lore or explanation) and the capitalist version of Christmas.
Like, give me Calanmai, Samhain, Beltane. Give me Inti Raymi, Yule, Diwali, Lunar New Year, Carnival, Nowruz, Midsummer — anything with meaning, folklore, and history.
We all know the other courts have these kinds of celebrations because spring has calanmai soooo. Where’s the storytelling, rituals, and actual traditions?
The Night Court? Just modern parties and... nothing else.
