I’m visiting Pittsburgh for a few days to attend two Penguins games. Yesterday I saw that practice was scheduled for noon. I drove out to the practice facility and strolled in wearing my Crosby 2023 Winter Classic jersey. The lady at the desk said, “Practice was cancelled. A couple of guys are skating, though. You can watch.”

I go into the rink and what to my wondering eyes does appear but Sidney Crosby doing shooting drills with a goalie and trainer. There were maybe 10 people in the stands. I got to sit there and watch him practice for twenty minutes! First he did a few sequences where he had a stick positioned on the ice and he turned to skate just past it, receive a pass from the trainer, shoot the puck, and then skate on behind the net and around to do another rep.

Then he did this one.

Yes part of this man’s job is to kneel behind Crosby’s bum and gently toss a puck for him to shoot.

Afterwards, just like everyone has always said, Sid knelt down on the ice to help pick up the pucks.

It was wonderful to be able to do this. Of course going to a game at PPG Paints is awesome. But those are broadcast. This was something that only I and a few others were lucky enough to witness on this particular day.
