hey! as the first season of connor bedard gets underway i, your local indigenous hockey fan, have a request of you: please don't let this kid's sure to be marvellous and jaw-dropping rookie season make you complacent with the racism of the blackhawks as an organization. it is beyond heinous that they were able to secure the first overall pick this year for a number of reasons i'm sure we're all familiar with, but i am pleading with the hockey community not to let the racism of this org fall through the cracks.
they drafted connor bedard and handed him a jersey with a giant racist caricature on the front. their mascot is named tommy hawk. they continuously fail to curtail their fans' egregious displays of anti-indigenous racism at games.
i'm not going to ask anyone not to post about bedard. i know he's huge news and i'm bummed as all hell that i won't be able to enjoy the beginning of what is sure to be an incredible career myself. but i am asking, given that his presence on the team is likely to increase the prevalence of people making and reblogging posts about the blackhawks, that you please care, loudly and actively, about the racism of this organization and how much it hurts indigenous fans to see that go unquestioned so often.
consider mentioning it in posts. consider amplifying the voices of indigenous fans and community members about the issues of these types of sports organizations. consider reading up on the history of the person they claim to 'honour' with their hideous effigy of a logo. consider censoring the logo in your posts if you are able to (please do this if you are able to). consider tagging posts so that indigenous fans are at the very least able to blacklist that team and not have to see it.
above all, please just. don't forget about it. don't forget about us. we belong here too.
#gav gab#connor bedard#chicago blackhawks#i jsut. it makes me feel sick every time i see that thing.#this racist caricature of a native man's head on their jerseys on their ice in their locker room#a native man who had his body mutilated in death including having his head removed#it's fucking grotesque and it makes me literally sick#i was really looking forward to see what that little wizard boy could do!#and now it is wholly ruined for me#and i keep seeing people just. posting about it like this team is normal. like it's any other team#no ethical consumption under sports is true but some things ARE worse than others#and there is no justification or excuse for being a blackhawks fan in the year 2023. there just isn't.#and like..... it bums me the fuck out for bedard himself too#like he didn't choose this#he just got like. put into this situation#it sucks#he's a teenager and now he's in the middle of this whole mess he didn't create and isn't responsible for#and i can't expect him to do anything about it#but boy was i excited to see him play#and now it just..... yeah#well.

i think what's really irritating about situations where i'm offered random dogs is that having multiple dogs makes people think i'm some sort of charity when it's actually the opposite. my pack is heavily and carefully curated. i know what i want from a dog that is coming into my pack and don't stray from these wants for the good and wellbeing of my existing dogs. the only person i think is acceptable to offer me a dog is a breeder i've been already talking to about potentially getting a dog from already point blank and period. (and even then i've turned down a great offer recently from MY dogs breeder because it just wasn't timed correctly/dog import law bullcrap etc). just because i have made the choice for myself to have multiple dogs does not make me a charity home for dogs people cannot care for anymore. i sincerely feel for dogs in this sort of situation, but malamutes are overall better off going to experienced fosters and breed specific rescues instead of having people blind message people who own the same breed on your facebook timeline. and i don't trust a non-breed specific persons evaluation of temperament at ALL. for a malamute to have success in re-homing you must be knowledgable about the breed or else they're going to end up right back where they started.
#dogblr#alaskan malamute#i'm just. why would i trust#the person i had to remind not to run dogs in 85F in JULY years ago who still runs her siberians in summer#who has unhealth tested litters of puppies every year just so they can run 'sled dog puppy library programs' locally#on the temperament of a breed they are unfamiliar with?#and like where is the dog's breeder? why can't they take her back? oh wait...#pro responsible breeding#pro ethical breeding#i see this happen to so many sport dog people honestly it really irritates me#when my fellow musher friends have to tell people publically to stop thinking they'll just take huskies and husky mix dogs#out of the goodwill of their heart#when they're trying to build race kennels and breeding programs#yes the dogs deserve a home but having multiple dogs does not = charity

i'm like n1 lecfosa but i have to say some of the anons i've seen in other people's inboxes because they think that charles could've driven better today or that carlos deserved the win....have not been it. if you have an opinion to say, please just post it on your own blog and put your own name to it rather than going to terrorise and spit on someone who doesn't agree with you while retaining the luxury of hiding behind an anonymous icon. or even better, if you're upset, stick to the blogs that you know share your opinions.
#do not give the lecfosi a bad name we may not be particularly ethical people but we are fair#bonus points if you get that reference#but seriously guys......i was as upset as the next person but at the end of the day it's one race and charles is still p2 in the standings#with a suzuka upgrade coming that will make the front pointier#and carlos did win after getting his appendix out literally two weeks ago it is an impressive narrative people are ALLOWED to be impressed#blogs you enjoy can have differing opinions from you and that's okay!#but if you're upset about it there is no reason to send those with differing opinions a barrage of “CHARLES DESERVED BETTER DON'T YOU SEE”#like do i think charles deserved better. yeah. am i going into the inboxes of people happy for carlos and taking that away from them. no#if you have something to say that could be controversial put your name to it#like i'm fully aware my opinions are not everybody's cup of tea and that's okay#i have mutuals i really enjoy content from celebrating carlos and that's also okay end of the day it's a SPORT#if you come into my askbox and tell me that charles leclerc is washed i will be snitty because that's my territory#but the beauty of tumblr is you can curate your space - USE THAT BEAUTY#okay rant over just a psa i have been a little upset seeing some ppl i like content from get upset

Considering that women critical of self id in women’s sports are threatened and harassed Yes we do need more men to stand up do this. TRAs know the difference between men and women when it comes to who they can intimidate.
A male powerlifting coach self-identified into the women’s category and broke the Alberta women’s bench press record in an apparent effort to protest gender self-identification policies in sport.
Avi Silverberg, a powerlifting coach who has worked with Team Canada, self-identified as a woman last week to participate in the women’s category at the Heroes Classic Powerlifting Meet held in Lethbridge, Alberta. Silverberg was attempting to highlight the unfair advantage males have when competing in women’s athletics. In participating in the Saturday event, Silverberg unofficially broke the Alberta women’s bench press record for the 84+ kilograms category.
The Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU) announced a gender self-identification policy earlier this year, explicitly allowing any males to participate in women’s competitions on the basis of “gender” alone.
In February, the CPU’s “Trans Inclusion Policy,” was released, containing an explicit statement that the CPU supported allowing transgender powerlifters to participate in the sex category of their choosing based on a guidance from the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES).
“Based on this background and available evidence, the Expert Working Group felt that trans athletes should be able to participate in the gender with which they identify, regardless of whether or not they have undergone hormone therapy,” the document reads, deferring to the “inclusivity in sport” guidance from the CCES.
The official women’s bench press title holder in the 84+ kilograms category is Anne Andres, a trans-identified male. Andres was in the front row and witnessed Silverberg’s demonstration at the Heroes Classic Powerlifting Meet.
Andres is a biological male athlete who identifies as a “woman” and regularly participates in female weightlifting competitions. Andres has won eight out of nine competitions he has entered in the women’s category, and is listed as a female on the Open Powerlifting rankings site.
In February, just prior to the CPU’s announcement of a gender self-identification policy, Andres gained significant notoriety after sharing a video of himself appearing to mock female athletes, asking why female powerlifters were “so bad” at bench press.
In the video, Andres is seen sitting on a bench in a gym, leaning towards the camera in a casual manner and speaking directly into it.
“We all know that I’m a tranny freak,” Andres jokes about himself before going on to state: “… I mean, standard bench in power lifting competition for women, I don’t understand why it’s so bad.”
Riley Gaines, a spokeswoman for the Independent Women’s forum and an accomplished All American swimmer, shared a clip from the viral video on her Twitter in February, captioning it: “Anne Andres (male who identifies and competes as a woman) doesn’t understand why female powerlifters are so ‘bad’ at bench press… well idk Anne, but maybe it’s because you have 20 times more testosterone than them. Just a thought…”
ICONS Women, a campaign group dedicated to defending the rights of female athletes to single-sex sport, was first to post the clip of Silverberg at the Heroes Classic Powerlifting Meet on Monday, drawing attention to his act of defiance.
Speaking to Reduxx, ICONS Women noted that Silverberg’s demonstration provided insight into the end result of gender self-identification policies in sport.
“What Avi so obviously points out is that policies allowing men access to women’s sports completely remove any integrity in women’s competitions,” the organization said.
“It doesn’t matter how Avi expresses himself or perceives himself. He clearly does not belong in women’s sport, and neither does any other male regardless of their motivation for wanting to participate.”
While some were confused by the display, others praised Silverberg’s ironic application of the CPU’s “Transgender Policy.”
“I can’t get enough of this guy, Avi for prime minister. It takes real balls to do this. I said this all along, any man can change their documents to say they are a woman then go in and take records. Finally someone did it for the women and proved policy is a disgrace,” one Twitter user wrote in response.
Many echoed the sentiment, calling for more male athletes to do the same.
Women’s athletic competitions have become a major issue in the debate on gender ideology and its impact on women.
The issue mounted in public attention after a trans-identified male swimmer, Lia Thomas, began breaking women’s records and winning medals intended for female athletes in 2021. Since then, there have been several instances of trans-identified male athletes taking the podium in women’s sporting events.
Amidst growing pushback, the World Athletics recently announced they would be prohibiting transgender athletes who have undergone “male puberty” from competing in women’s world ranking competitions. During a press conference last week, World Athletics President Sebastian Coe cited scientific consideration and fairness for female athletes, stating he and the organization “believe the integrity of female category in athletics is paramount.”

My week has finished out with more just bleh feelings about training. Just a pity party down below so nothing important
I am stopping doing any training on retrieves with Ryker. I will give him a month or so off and see if I can start it again after, if not maybe it will have to wait until he gets out of adolescence. He shuts down the moment I grab the dumbbell or the PVC I had been using, or if I say "take it".
He is really really handler sensitive. Which is a bit surprising and I am really going to have to learn to adapt. Aayla is a little handler sensitive, but not like this. It makes things so frustrating and then I spiral down and things are just hard.
I think this is getting compounded by the fact that I'm seriously debating retired Aayla from obedience. Her avoidance to sitting at the last trial just has me worried about her hips. She DOES do no-sits when feeling stressed or there is too much pressure. Which the judges were doing a lot of pressure during the whole weekend. Yet the amount she was refusing to sit was embarrassing and has me worried its physical pain versus stress.
We got 0 utility Qs and therefore 0 UDX legs and her two qualifying open runs had such poor scores she got 0 OM points. The whole weekend did not progress her to those titles I want her to have...and I would like to retired her from AKC sooner than later. Maybe I should just give up. Getting her UD was amazing and she has had fantastic runs, but I am not going to trial her for two more years to get those titles.
I also decided Aayla will not do anymore agility. I had thought maybe the ASCA senior ACE program would be okay, but if she is struggling in obedience there is no way I'm making her do any agility.
I always thought I would go back to AKC rally after I stopped having her jump 20" for obedience but if sitting is bothering her than rally isn't fair for her to do either. That's a lot more sitting.
She isn't ready to retire from training or sports, I know it. She is getting upset more and more if I don't work her when I'm working Ryker but I'm getting to this point of what can I have her do that isn't asking her to do things that possibly hurt? Do I work her because it makes her happy and accept if she says no? Will she say no? I doubt it, unless it really hurts.
I'm going to be taking her into the vet within the next few weeks, might get some hip x-rays and ask about adequan and anything else we can maybe do.
I hate this. So much. It's breaking my heart. I worry that her body is going to give out on her long before her mind is.
#keep in mind that aayla is happy and mostly fine#she isn't limping#she isn't acting like its painful for most people to tell#I can tell she is moving a bit stiffer and a little different#and she is refusing to sit#yet she hikes and plays and demands to play tug and harasses rebel daily#i'm just weighing my ethics of training and trialing in sports#she wants to work#she wants to train#also ryker is just being a teenager#he has had some brilliant moments this week#yet I also worry about his hind end#so he also needs to get into the vet for an evaluation

Why are we surprised that f1 moved on so quickly from horner being a sexual abuser, when f1 let ad21 happen without a single consequence- just went “teehee everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days 🤭” and then went on justifying why it was fine, while simultaneously rewriting the dictionary and half the rules in the sport
#ad21 was so egregious and yet people moved on from it within a month because their white saviour needed his win validated#like this sport does nit give a fuck about ethics and fairness and justice#horner could snort cocaine off maxs dick right there in the garage and theyd still find a way to brush it under a rug#while telling us how fantastic and record breaking this red bull team is

It's important to fans to understand me, and me understand the fans. I put a lot of work on my English to talk with you guys. And I think I'm doing a good job.
#elly de la cruz#i adore this man#i am genuinely SO impressed with how much his English has improved in less than a year#athletes and language learning and the use of interpreters was already so interesting to me even before i become a Sports Person#considering what i studied in school#and baseball is such a crazy overlap of all that#the most 'American' sport but also so international#and then you think about everything going on with ohtani and his interpreter#which is wild and bringing a lot of attention to the language industry (and maybe not good attention!)#and it's like yeah - interpreters and translators absolutely need to have an ethics code and oversight considering the power they have#but not many people think about that!#anyway i'm rambling whoops#but i fully support interpreters AND athletes learning to speak the languages of the countries they play in#and elly is killing it#which is unsurprising#he is good at everything!!! we're so lucky to have him
