I just had a salmon run shift but somebody used their special and it was the new splashdown (splatoon 3) before the new chill season…..uhm…uhhh….

Some quick first impressions on the new weapons and the new stages after like two and a half hours of playing:

Splattershot Nova seems all-around competent. It has terrible DPS but makes up for it with paint and range. I think its kit holds it back a bit in the current meta but I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes more prolific in higher levels of play over time.

Big Swig Roller is basically the Aerospray of Rollers, for better or worse. It’s damage is downright atrocious, but it paints incredibly well. I think it’ll have a rough go of it because the kit makes it very passive, and it just can’t fight well at all. It’s a fun turf wars weapon, but I don’t expect it to break into the big leagues unless it gets a really good fighting kit in the future.

Snipewriter has a lot of potential, I feel. Tacticooler isn’t very favored right now on account of all the Ninja Squid running around, but if Ninja Squid ever gets nerfed, or Tacticooler gets buffed (unlikely) then I could see this thing becoming a viable competitive play option. It might even be on certain modes already, because it has the range and power to compete with other backline weapons, it’s just weird and hard to use.

I was honestly a bit afraid for Brinewater Springs at first, as it could potentially be a Hammerhead Bridge 2.0, but I was happy to see that wasn’t the case. I think it should have been a bit bigger, but it has enough routes and little nooks and crannies for it to not just become sniper hell (though I’d say it still favors long range on the whole)

Flounder Heights is just great, I can see why it was so popular in the first game. It’s got a million different paths you can take to get around, and the stage geometry is varied and interesting, with almost all areas factoring into fights in ways that the more flat stages simply don’t. I feel confident in saying this is the new best stage in the game.

I made an account with the URL big-swig-propaganda two weeks ago because I thought it would be a good weapon but . I just tested it out it's fucking awful. Too weak to hit anyone unless you're right next to them but slow to actually hit people without them shooting you to death first. It can't defend itself at all so it can barely actually ink anything. Good bye big swig propaganda.

I've only played against triple splashdown once and I already hate it. If you're anywhere near the person who uses it there is no getting away from it, It covers so much ground and goes down so quickly you would have to literally be a god to get away from it.
