Star Trek TOS: Kirk/ Spock, 23k, E, Persuasion fusion

This delightful fic hearkens back to the original Star Trek' series' bizarre obsession with alien worlds that mimic Earth, by presenting us with a word similar enough to Regency England to provide a fitting setting for a story inspired by Persuasion.

While many authors approach fusions by shoehorning in existing characters, the author of this piece instead created some charming new characters; a sprightly young native of the alien world and an adorable young Lieutenant, who both serve as foils for the development of Kirk and Spock's relationship.

The tone of this piece wonderfully captures Austin's voice, while still remaining the author's own, and the setting of the story is vividly described while not being overdeveloped.

The ending has both a surprise twist and all the melodrama of a bodice-ripper. I'm having a hard time not just describing everything about this story as 'delightful', because it really is such a charming story.

aos rec from the archives

i was on a walk and was bored of music and relistened to this old aos podfic. it has a crack feel and jim is ridiculous but it is a beautiful slowly falling in love spirk fic. Anyway, if you haven't, go read "your first time should be special" by helenish.

But, as he rematerialises and catches sight of Spock’s glossy hair and pointed ears amidst the waiting crowd in the transport station, he’s sure even this tourist’s haven of commercialism has its benefits. Spock’s gaze softens as their eyes meet, and Jim steps down from the platform as Spock comes to greet him.

For this year's @kiscon zine I had the absolute pleasure of doing 5 illustrations for @gunstreet's amazing fic Late Bloomer. It's a 10K rated E TOS story full of fun shenanigans, sweet moments and a very incredible explicit ending (there also a sexy illustration there!).

VINTAGE HUMOR SPIRK FIC RECS

If you vibe with my sense of humor, I enthusiastically recommend checking out these funny 1990′s fics by Dana Austin Marsh.

I’ve linked them here because finding vintage fics on AO3 is an ordeal. The years are usually WAY off, the tags are nonexistant, and they usually have single digit comments and kudos. I stumbled across these by pure luck.

All of these fics made me laugh. Some are fascinating time capsules while a few feel like they could be written today. The thing that made them feel the most vintage is the constant use of the word “lover,” which is no longer in fashion to describe Kirk and Spock’s relationship. 

If you’re in need of a funny fic to perk you up, enjoy these treats!

1993 - Nothing to Sneeze At

While on a diplomatic mission, Kirk’s allergy to the inhabitants is remedied by a drug that he has an even worse reaction to. Originally published in 1993 in the print fanzine T’hy’la # 14

It’s fun to see a pre-AOS fic where Kirk is plagued by allergies! 

1994 - Enterprising Tours

Kirk and Spock decide to use different places on the Enterprise to make love while it is deserted during a re-fit, unaware that some crewmembers have started tours through the ship. Originally published in the 1994 print fanzine Kaleidoscope # 2, edited by Emily Adams.

1994 - By the Book

Kirk buys a sex manual and suggests to Spock they try out all the positions. Originally printed in 1994 in the print fanzine T’hy’la 15.

1994 - Rumor Has It

Kirk and Spock decide to use the rumor that they are lovers to discourage crewmembers from making a play for either of them. Originally published in 1994 in the print fanzine Matter/Antimatter # 11.

1996 - Lotions and Potions, Etc

Sulu tricks Spock into hosting a party to sell Sulu’s line of sex potions and toys, a situation that does not sit well with Spock’s lover, Kirk. Originally published in 1996 in the print fanzine Kaleidoscope 5.

1998 - From Rags to Riches

Kirk sues the scandal sheet that has been running stories with a slightly slanted take on the Enterprise’s missions, which all imply that he is using the ship to further his sexual conquests. Originally published in the 1998 print fanzine "First Time" # 47.

This one made me think of @cicaklah’s incredible One Man series. If you haven’t read it yet, treat yourself! 

1998 - Babes in the Woods ⭐

My second favorite of her fics! 

After complaining about how ill prepared newly graduated cadets are, Kirk is volunteered to lead a group on a survival course but he manages to bring his first officer, and lover, with him. Originally published in the print fanzine Kaleidoscope # 7(1998), Emily Adams, editor.

1999 - The Tribble With Troubles ⭐

My personal favorite! If you like my fics, you'll enjoy the heck out of this!

One tribble is left behind on the Enterprise. Originally published in the print fanzine Beyond Dreams 1 (1999).

Kirk/ Spock, E, 38k, Creator chose not to use archive warnings, (the author includes a warning for dubious consent, but IMO it should include a warning for rape/ non-con)

This is one of those fics that’s stuck in my head since I first read it. Kirk is a feared space pirate captain and Spock a scientist who gets captured by pirates and locked in Kirk’s quarters to be used as a sex slave- but this fic is so different than that summary makes it sound.

The heart of it is two very dissimilar beings struggling to understand each other- Spock is blindingly intelligent, Kirk is much more than he seems, and there’s a whole background society of people who don’t fit into the perfect ideal of the federation. Add to that some interesting alien biology and culture, and an incredibly developed plot.

I sit around imagining this fic in my head sometimes, that’s how amazing it is.

Can some lovely people please recommend me some Star Trek TOS fanfics where the character portrayal is VERY canonical/accurate in your opinion? Would love hurt-comfort /whump/damsel in distress of someone of the triumvirate (bonus points if it’s Bones but not necessary) and where all three are in focus and have cute or interesting or angsty moments with each other. I will have you (if you let me) by ros3bud009 @roseymoseyberry (TOS) - starting out this list with a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ fic. i loved everything about this fic - the premise (k&s know they're t'hy'la from the second they meet), the yearning, the journey, the love. i could live in this fic

Spock 🖖 by vaksur, WerewolvesAreReal (TOS) - need a laugh? this one is it. spock decides to use emojis in his comms. shenanigans ensue

A Friend Like You by kierawrites (TAS, yes you read that right an animated series fic!) - pre-slash, a glimpse into their lives after the episode "mudd's passion." this one is short and yet is packed with *them*

A Different Perspective by Maeko (AOS, SNW) - transporter malfunction fic, and this time it brings AOS Spirk to SNW verse. loved this one for the AOS Spirk dynamics, but mostly the SNW Spock and AOS Spock interactions and Maeko's perspective of Vulcan telepathy. it's a fascinating character study!

in the dying of the light by scar_a_mouche (zanni_scaramouche) @zanniscaramouche (AOS) - i'm not sure how to categorize this one, other than to say that i had this *ache* in my chest through every sentence and it just felt so AOS Spirk that i wanted to drown in it. one of my faves over the last few months

Personal Personnel Protocol by dothedeux (TOS) - another comedy entry for the list. this time it's not just the bridge crew that knows what's up, it's the computer. such a fun read and so sweet too

Professor Kirk by TonightNoPoetryWillServe (AOS) - cadet spock, professor kirk, and all kinds of fluff with only a touch of angst. perfect bedtime reading

Let Forever Be by gunstreet @gunstreet (TOS) - listen. i need everyone to drop what they're doing and read this fic. it's a city on the edge of forever fic that is mostly a jim character study but pulls in queer history. it breathes compassion and humanity, and is stocked with OCs you'll fall in love with. another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read

Shall We? by Jenna Hilary Sinclair (JennaHilary) (TOS) - yet another comedy entry? what has the world come to? i love my angst just as much as the next spirk truther, but when comedic spirk is done right it hits perfectly and this one is definitely done right

And When the Bond Breaks by LadyRa (TOS) - finishing this spirk list with a final ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read. this became easily one of my favorite TOS fics of all time. it's from 2003 and deserves WAY MORE hits, kudos, and comments than it has!
