𝙴𝚐𝚘 𝚒𝚜 𝚍𝚎 𝚟𝚒𝚓𝚊𝚗𝚍 Ons ego doet ons geloven dat we minder of juist beter zijn dan anderen. Het ego zorgt ervoor dat we oordelen maar niet veroordeeld willen worden. Het plakt labels op mensen terwijl het weigert zelf in een hokje geduwd te worden. Als we praten over ego en het gevecht dat we er dagdagelijks mee voeren wordt de ironie al snel duidelijk; wie wint is evengoed een verliezer. Wie denkt geen ego te hebben, heeft waarschijnlijk één van de grootste. Ego’s zorgen voor verdeeldheid terwijl het harmonie is wat we echt willen. Het ego zorgt ervoor dat we waarheden vervormen of helemaal niet zien. De waarheid is dat we met z’n allen op de aarde leven en dat iedereen iets kan leren van elk ander. 🪞😈 𝙴𝚐𝚘 𝚒𝚜 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚎𝚗𝚎𝚖𝚢 Our ego makes us believe that we are less or better than others. The ego makes us judge but does not want to be judged. It labels people while refusing to be pigeonholed itself. When we talk about ego and the fight we fight with it every day, the irony quickly becomes apparent; whoever wins is also a loser. Whoever thinks he has no ego probably has one of the biggest. Egos create division while harmony is what we really want. The ego causes us to distort truths or not see them at all. “Alphabet city was sorely in need of plants and trees and birds and bees.” Part 2. . illustration. Watercolor pencil. 9” x 11 3/4” 2006-2014 . . I was leaving the baking hot parking lot of MASS MoCA yesterday and thinking “jeez! They need to plant some trees out here!” . Have you see that a new solution to city heat (which is a real problem; so much energy consumption results because of it!) is to coat the streets with white paint? Supposedly does a good job of abating the problem, not 100% but still, bring on the solutions! . . This is an illustration that I dawdled over for a few years...I thought it was going to be a story....maybe the next two pages will show a city that looks like a garden? I had a dream about a snake like this. In the dream it was huge with an almost dragon-like head, slowly crawling up a rock outside our window. When explaining about the snake’s red, white and black stripes people thought I meant a kingsnake. But the huge snake in my dream was not only different because of its size, but also because unlike the kingsnake, its stripes were equally sized — something which seems crucial to a hyper-visual person such as myself. . I feel absolutely humbled having dreamt about this beautiful snake, as I am well aware of its spiritual and shamanistic symbolism. I see you, Snake, I hear you, I honour you, and most of all I honour your presence in me. . When I ended up drawing this snake, I found that I liked the sketch process almost as much as the end result — the journey as much as the destination. Swipe to see the process I am talking about! As we have now entered December you’ll find that I am not a Christmas person. I instead choose to focus on celebrating other things throughout the year, such as MY favourite holiday Halloween for example — but I also take every opportunity I get to celebrate and honour my ancestors. . This piece is inspired by Rosemaling, a technique local to Norway which has been used to decorate everyday objects since the 1700s. My granddad knew this technique but I unfortunately never got the opportunity to learn it directly from him – so now I go via online @Skillshare classes in digital Rosemaling, to figuring out how to add my own style and finally (hopefully) how to paint on wood like it was done traditionally. . .
