👀 Are you concerned that your baby may have trouble breastfeeding or speaking? It could be due to a tongue or lip tie. These conditions are more common than you might think and can cause a range of symptoms. 👶 Tongue tie occurs when the frenulum, the piece of tissue that connects the tongue to the bottom of the mouth, is too short or tight. Lip tie is when the frenulum under the upper lip is too thick or tight. Both can lead to difficulty with breastfeeding, speech, and dental issues. 💡 Knowing what to look for can help you identify if your child has tongue or lip tie. In this article, we'll explore the symptoms of these conditions and what you can do to help your child. Don't let tongue or lip tie go undiagnosed - read on to learn more.1. Understanding Tongue and Lip Tie: Definition and Causes👅👄 Tongue and lip tie are conditions that affect newborns and infants. They occur when the frenulum, a small piece of tissue that connects the tongue or lip to the mouth, is too tight or short. 👶 Causes of tongue and lip tie include genetics and environmental factors. 👩‍⚕️ Diagnosis is made by a healthcare professional through a physical exam and observation of symptoms. 👨‍⚕️ Treatment options include frenotomy, a simple procedure that involves cutting the frenulum to release tension and improve mobility. 🤔 If left untreated, tongue and lip tie can lead to difficulties with breastfeeding, speech, and dental health. Early intervention is key for successful treatment and prevention of long-term complications.2. Common Symptoms of Tongue and Lip Tie in Infants and Children Tongue Tie Symptoms: Difficulty latching, poor weight gain, clicking sound while feeding, colic, reflux, gagging, and choking. Lip Tie Symptoms: Difficulty flanging lips, milk leaking from the corners of the mouth, and poor weight gain. Speech Symptoms: Difficulty pronouncing certain sounds, speech delay, and difficulty with tongue movements. Dental Symptoms: Crowded or crooked teeth, cavities, and gum recession. Other Symptoms: Difficulty with solid foods, gagging on food or utensils, and difficulty with oral hygiene. 👶👄💡 Don't ignore these symptoms, consult with a pediatrician or lactation consultant for proper diagnosis and treatment.3. The Impact of Tongue and Lip Tie on Breastfeeding and Speech DevelopmentTongue and lip tie can cause difficulties in breastfeeding and speech development. Babies with tongue or lip tie may have trouble latching onto the breast. This can cause pain for the mother and lead to inadequate milk transfer. If left untreated, it can result in poor weight gain and even failure to thrive. Speech development can also be affected by tongue and lip tie. Children with tongue or lip tie may have difficulty with certain sounds. They may also experience speech delays or have trouble with articulation. Early intervention can prevent long-term speech problems. Diagnosis and treatment of tongue and lip tie is important. A healthcare provider can diagnose tongue and lip tie through a physical exam. Treatment may involve a simple procedure to release the tongue or lip tie. After treatment, babies may experience improved breastfeeding and children may have better speech development. It's important to seek help if you suspect your child has tongue or lip tie. Early intervention can prevent long-term problems. Don't be afraid to ask for help from a lactation consultant or speech therapist. With the right treatment, your child can thrive and reach their full potential. 👶🏼👄👅💭💪🏼4. Diagnosis and Treatment Options for Tongue and Lip TieDiagnosis of tongue and lip tie involves a physical examination by a healthcare professional. Symptoms include difficulty breastfeeding, speech issues, and dental problems. Treatment options for tongue and lip tie include frenectomy, a simple surgical procedure that involves cutting the frenulum to release the tongue or lip. Other treatment options include exercises to strengthen the tongue and lip muscles, speech therapy, and orthodontic treatment. Frenectomy can be performed with a laser or scissors, and is usually done in the doctor's office with local anesthesia. After frenectomy, the patient may experience some discomfort and swelling, but the recovery period is typically short and uncomplicated. Complications of frenectomy are rare, but can include infection, bleeding, and damage to surrounding tissue. It is important to follow post-operative instructions carefully to ensure proper healing. Parents of infants who undergo frenectomy should continue to monitor their child's feeding and development to ensure that any issues are addressed promptly. Overall, diagnosis and treatment of tongue and lip tie is important for improving breastfeeding, speech, and dental outcomes.👍5. Potential Complications and Long-Term Effects of Untreated Tongue and Lip TieUntreated tongue and lip tie can lead to various complications and long-term effects that can impact an individual's overall health and well-being. These include: Difficulty breastfeeding: Infants with tongue or lip tie may have trouble latching onto the nipple, leading to inadequate feeding and poor weight gain. Speech problems: Tongue tie can affect speech development, causing issues with pronunciation and articulation. Dental issues: Lip tie can cause a gap between the front teeth, while tongue tie can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Sleep apnea: Untreated tongue tie can cause breathing difficulties during sleep, leading to snoring and sleep apnea. Emotional and psychological effects: Individuals with untreated tongue or lip tie may experience anxiety, low self-esteem, and difficulty with social interactions. It's important to seek treatment for tongue and lip tie to prevent these potential complications and long-term effects. Treatment options include: Laser frenectomy: A minimally invasive procedure that uses a laser to release the tongue or lip tie. Traditional frenectomy: A surgical procedure that involves cutting the frenulum with a scalpel or scissors. Myofunctional therapy: Exercises that help improve tongue and lip function and promote proper oral posture. Early diagnosis and treatment of tongue and lip tie can lead to improved breastfeeding, speech development, and overall health and well-being. Don't let untreated tongue and lip tie impact your life. 👶🦷😴💬😔6. Tips for Managing Symptoms and Supporting Your Child's Health with Tongue and Lip Tie 👅💋Tongue and lip tie can cause various symptoms in children, such as difficulty breastfeeding, speech issues, and dental problems. 👨‍⚕️Consult a pediatrician or lactation consultant for diagnosis and treatment options. 💊Pain relief medication and exercises can help manage symptoms and improve your child's oral function. 🍎A healthy diet with plenty of water and fiber can prevent constipation and promote healing after surgery. 🤱Breastfeeding mothers should maintain good hygiene and use nipple shields or pumps if necessary. 😴Adequate sleep and stress management can also improve your child's overall health and well-being. 7. Seeking Professional Support: Finding a Qualified Specialist for Tongue and Lip Tie TreatmentWhen seeking professional support for tongue and lip tie treatment, it's crucial to find a qualified specialist. Here are some tips: Look for a pediatric dentist or ENT surgeon with experience in tongue and lip tie treatment. Ask for referrals from lactation consultants, pediatricians, or other parents who have gone through the same process. Check the specialist's credentials and make sure they are certified in laser frenectomy or other relevant procedures. Discuss the treatment plan with the specialist and ask about the success rate and potential risks. It's essential to find a specialist who can provide comprehensive care, including pre- and post-treatment support. Ask about the specialist's approach to pain management and aftercare, including exercises and follow-up appointments. Make sure the specialist is willing to work with your lactation consultant or speech therapist to ensure optimal results. Consider the location and accessibility of the specialist's office, as well as the cost of treatment and insurance coverage. Remember, finding the right specialist can make all the difference in your child's health and development. Don't hesitate to ask questions and do your research. 🔍👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️💻💰👶 In conclusion, tongue and lip ties can cause a range of symptoms that can impact a person's quality of life. It's important to be aware of the signs, such as difficulty breastfeeding, speech issues, and dental problems. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent long-term complications. If you suspect that you or your child may have a tongue or lip tie, don't hesitate to seek out a qualified healthcare professional for evaluation. Treatment options include frenotomy, a simple and safe procedure that can improve symptoms and overall well-being. Don't let tongue and lip ties hold you back from living your best life! 💪🏼💯👍🏼 https://symptomfinder.com/tongue-lip-tie-symptoms-what-to-look-for/?_unique_id=646e4170bf294

Dusty's 21st birthday - 4 years ago - oh kid stop getting older! That means I'm closer to 50! I'm glad you've managed to live this long but damn. You survived #meningitis a multitude of medical issues, #salmonella almost taking you out leaving #braindamage and eating us out of house and home because you lack ability to know when you are full! You may have #autism #microcephaly #adhd #immunocompromised #speechimpediment and a list of other issues But they don't have you. You are one of a kind kid unlike any other. Yes you get on our nerves but we love you still the same. We won't baby you treat you like you are #specialneeds but we see you as normal and want you to see yourself the same. Treated you differently will not do any good. You know you are different but that don't stop us. Your teachers at Lejeune High School treated you the same and expected you to give your all each and every day and in doing so you graduated with a high school diploma not a certificate of completion. He wanted to be a #Marine like his #dad but you know they couldn't handle you lol Happy birthday Kid. Grams is sending you a billion kisses from heaven. #devilpup for life #milkid #milfam #survivor #warriorwednesday #wednesdaywarrior

Good day to all of you. Stuttering Awareness week was last week, but I didn’t realize it because during that time I was on vacation and prepping for it. But it has occurred to me that there is always someone who needs to be educated about different types of people. For this blog post I decided to reach out to some good individuals of two Facebook groups I’m a part of. Those groups are The…

Being an artist is about more than just posting pretty pictures of your artwork online. It’s also a form of expression; it’s a way for us to be able to put our thoughts and emotions out there in a way that others may relate to it. A picture really is worth a thousand words. . . . I’ve gotten better over the years, but I’ve always had such a hard time putting my thoughts or feelings out there in a way that would make sense to others. Perhaps you’ve noticed this if you watch any of my YouTube videos. I’ve found it difficult to express whatever’s been on my mind ever since I was young. On the other hand, give me a pen or paintbrush and I find it a lot easier to tell my story. Whether writing or painting, I discovered this many years ago when dealing with massive amounts of anxiety. It all seemed to dissipate once I started painting-the world got a little quieter and more peaceful and I felt like others were just beginning to understand who I am, my story. . . . This piece is titled “Grow” and was inspired by the lemon tree in my studio that has continued to grow and flower despite being exposed to a long, cold winter. Here in Minnesota the weather has been so bipolar and we would experience all four seasons in a matter of a few days. Being an artist that is just kickstarting her career, there have been many ups and downs and some days the motivation just isn’t there. In these moments, I aspire to be like my Minnesota lemon tree. It just keeps growing and hanging on despite the cold and the many changes in weather; it serves as a reminder that winter only a season. It ends eventually and spring always arrives again sooner or later. . . . If you’ve been stuck as well, I hope this inspires you to keep reaching for the stars. You’ll get there eventually. Just never give up. 9”X12” acrylic on gessoboard. #itsonlyaseason . . . . . #speechimpediment #instaartist #instaart #artdaily #artofig #igart #igarrtists #gessoboard #paintinghands #lemontreepainting #artistcareer #instaartist #artgram #acrylicongessoboard #acrylicpainting #artawareness #shopsmall #buyart #artcollector #realartists #igart #artwork #painting #paintbrush (at Minnesota) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwxfBBrgVlP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1dzfzkgambqtg

►  OTHER  BITS
percy tends to talk really quickly unless she’s in a class/professional setting, in which case she makes a conscious effort to slow down. it’s a case of her brain going faster than her mouth can keep up—she stumbles over syllables, does spoonerisms, or fully forgets words and has to spend a minute going “um... uh... you know...” until it comes back to her.
the stumbling gets worse when she’s nervous, and she’ll stammer a little then, too.
she apologizes a lot. more than she should or needs to, and for things that aren’t her fault
she’s naturally a loud person; louder than she realizes, at times. this is really only around people she’s comfortable with. when she’s uncomfortable, she’s very quiet—it’s kind of jarring if you know her well.
her tone defaults to being pretty bright because she’s usually talking through a smile, but between theater & voice lessons she knows enough about the voice to adjust her tone as she wishes to/needs

so I grew up with two speech impediments (a bad lisp and stuttering) and I had to have my friends help me work on them. well I got over my lisp after a while but the stuttering never really stopped. so I had started speaking really quickly so people wouldn't notice and after some time it became faint.
but then, since I talk so fast, I now trip over my own words all the time and I will switch up words quite a lot. I get made fun of for it but ive started to laugh at myself when i do it, and my friends (being the angels they are) will laugh with me, instead of at me.
but yeah if you ever meet someone with a slight lisp, who talks really fast and switches up their words constantly, you might have run into me.
