Alfonso XII
Artist: Federico De Madrazo y Kuntz (Spanish, 1815-1894)
Date: 1886
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Museo del Prado, Madrid, Spain
Description
This is a posthumous portrait of the monarch. He appears standing, in full-length, and dressed in a simple captain-general's uniform, upon which he bears the grand laureate cross and sash of the military order of San Fernando (Saint Ferdinand), as well as the decorations of the Golden Fleece hanging from his collar and a cummerbund and a saber girdle around his waist. He poses inside a palatial hall, on a rich carpet, resting his hand on one of the splendid hard-stone tables kept in the Museo del Prado , on which we see the command baton and the feathered helmet of his uniform. In the shadows of the sumptuous architecture in the background, there is a niche with a statue of a medieval monarch – probably King Alfonso X the Wise, the immediate nominal predecessor of the monarch – and a medallion with the effigy of King Charles V.
Federico de Madrazo had already painted portraits of Alfonso XII on several occasions throughout the king's lifetime, according to the records in his inventory. However, this portrait was commissioned from the painter in 1886, the year following the king's death. It was intended for the Ministry of Public Works, which back then was home to the Contemporary Section of the Museo del Prado . It was immediately transferred to the Museum, probably with the purpose of being integrated within the Chronological Series of the Kings of Spain, a project initiated by José de Madrazo.

The Abdication of Charles III
Artist: Antonio Joli (Italian, 1700-1777)
Date: 1759
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid, Spain
Abdication of Charles III
On August 10, 1759, Ferdinand VI died without a descendant. As a result, his stepbrother Charles, then King of Naples and Sicily , inherited the Spanish throne. The first of seven children of Philip V and his second wife Isabel Farnese, Charles VII had reigned for a period of almost 24 years in Naples. In 1738, he had married the Princess Maria Amalia of Saxony, and their thirteen children were born in Naples. The oldest boy, Philip of Asturias, was mentally ill and unable to access the throne, not even under the guidance of a regency. Furthermore, several international treaties prohibited Charles from being King of both Naples and Spain simultaneously. Thus, he opted for the solution of legally declaring the incapacity of his firstborn and taking his second son, Charles (the future Charles IV) to Madrid , as the Prince of Asturias. He left the Neapolitan throne to his third son, Ferdinand. To this end, he negotiated a treaty with Austria ( Naples, October 3, 1759) in which the other power recognized his right to freely dispose of the Neapolitan throne. The courts of Naples met and Charles abdicated his position as King of Naples, the event represented in this painting, in favor of Ferdinand , then an eight-year-old child. Until he reached the age of sixteen, a regency council instituted by his father would govern in his name.

Ok so I found this video in the wild, and I'm in love with it not just bc it's the first ever time I've heard both Clown AND Pangi speak dutch (and it's frankly adorable how excited and happy they sound. I love those SMP war criminals <3 /silly) but also bc there's somebody who I'm assuming is Etoiles bc the voice is very similar saying "pues por su culo" and being IMMEDIATELY drowned out by who I'm ALSO assuming is MythicalSausage bc the voice is very similar as well saying "menos mal que sé cómo hablar español"
What kinda fucking acid trip did I just take /vpos /aff
