Outkast’s Big Boi, EDM artist Zedd, U.K. band Nothing But Thieves, Norwegian artist Aurora, rapper Hanumankind, guitarist-composer Cory Wong will perform in Mumbai on March 8 and 9, 2025
Anurag Tagat Sep 10, 2024
American punk-rock heroes Green Day, pop artist Shawn Mendes, U.K. hitmakers Glass Animals and singer-songwriter Louis Tomlinson are among top-billed acts making their India debut at Lollapalooza India 2025 in Mumbai, between March 8 and 9.
The lineup for the third edition of Lollapalooza India also includes rap veteran Big Boi from Outkast, U.K. band Nothing But Thieves, Norwegian pop artist Aurora, electronic artists like Zedd, John Summit and Alok, American guitarist-composer Cory Wong (known for his work with acts like Vulfpeck), breakout rapper Hanumankind (also our latest cover star), South Korean indie rock band Wave To Earth and rising pop artists Isabel LaRosa and more. Folk-indie singer-songwriter duo Lullanas – comprising Indian-origin siblings – will also make their India debut at Lollapalooza India 2025.
More Indian artists adding heft to the lineup include singer-songwriter Dot., rappers Raftaar and KR$NA, Punjabi artist Talwiinder, sitarist and fusion artist Niladri Kumar, pop artist Lisa Mishra, rock artist Raman Negi, Ahmedabad rap favorite Dhanji, producer Spryk, pianist-composer Sahil Vasudeva, DJ-producer Anushka, multi-instrumentalist-producer Sid Vashi, singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle and indie multi-instrumentalist/producer Sudan.
The announcement in September makes for meme-friendly news for Green Day, known for songs like “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” The band announced their India debut on Instagram and said, “Another first for us!! India, you’ve been calling our name… and it’s finally time to answer. We’ll see you in Mumbai next March for @LollaIndia.” The trio comprising Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool released their most recent album Saviors in 2024 and will likely dig into all-time hits like “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life),” “American Idiot,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and more. Shawn Mendes, known for hits “In My Blood,” “Treat You Better” and new single “Why Why Why,” returns to the live stage after more than two years on his current tour, which includes Lollapalooza India.
Louis Tomlinson, who has a big following in India following his time with pop group One Direction, will also make a long-awaited India debut. Fellow Brits Glass Animals are a big draw on the back of releasing their new album I Love You So F***ing Much in July, but primarily due to their 2020 hit “Heat Waves,” which was the seventh-most streamed song in India on Spotify in 2022.
Glass Animals founder Dave Bayley – who visited India as a 16-year-old – told Rolling Stone India in 2020, “Thank you for the support, I hope you are staying safe and healthy. We can’t wait to come and visit.”
In a wholly new strategy, Lollapalooza India’s 2025 lineup is out six months in advance of the multi-genre festival taking place in March. BookMyShow Live also took a similar approach while announcing the lineup for their festival Bandland, which is taking place on Nov. 23 and 24 in Bengaluru.

Uh...super totally cool and not nerdy stuff....
Um nothing about the new discovery of Harrapan civilization shipyards at Lothal - the heart of the old south Asian civ.
And how that explains south Asian artifacts and more in cradle Mesopotamia and Egyptian sites and what that means for earlier old world trade, this stories, and back and forth religious perhaps influences too?!
Because it is officially now recognized as THE WORLD'S OLDEST PORT!!!!!
And they found foreign artifacts IN the shipyards too! So back and forth trade as well as obvy like mentioned the fact Indian artifacts showed up in the Persian Gulf coast.
But what's crazy is the fact there's networks of rivers and paths showing people traveled and traded TO Lothal (on their way) and then some from Lothal bought and traded onwards and some continued their journeys from there to Mesopotamia (today Iraq). That is huge!
Um...oh, and uh cars, and how to make a PVC tube snow ball when winter comes so I'm prepared to be the most dominant force on my block. Get rekt!
...also the history of sapphic pirates.
Oh, map representation of the water was from Nal Sarova and all the way up from Ahmedabad for how people could get to Lothal -- for some the boat trip was only two days on a boat with a little humped thatched roof over it.
Two days of river going comfortably and you could be at a trade epicenter (water NYC) then from there outward into the wider world to trade with other cradle civilizations. Idk if you get how fucking huge that is for a trader. Think about the stories traded back and forth, superstitions, myths, folktales, lives, and of course they money, goods, information. Learned people would travel ABSOLUTELY for the sake of knowledge and the new.
South Asia was home to the world's oldest residential university. Most of the cradle civilizations were more advanced than many give them credit for because they had built up the wealth/resources at the time to invest back into the collection and pursuit of knowledge so higher level learning through schools of various sorts and private tutelage and having just people dedicated to its pursuits (and libraries of course) all existed and could be funded/possible.
The old world was FAR more interconnected than people realize.
But this is freaking super duper cool.
The Silk Road maritime routes were absolutely documented. But that is a far way away from this period in time.

Summary
This project, led by an Indian NGO Mahila Housing Sewa Trust (MHT), is on a mission to organise and empower women in low-income households to increase their resilience to impacts of climate change. To date, MHT’s initiatives have helped 25,000 low-income families across seven cities in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
The project is centred around an integrated model wherein women take the lead through collective action and technology incubation to devise locally relevant, pro‐poor, gender-sensitive and climate-resilient solutions. For example, women were trained to be energy auditors who encourage households to switch to more efficient products, forming a women-led distribution network of green energy and building products. Other solutions include using sprinkler taps to reduce the flow of water, harvesting rainwater, and other behavioural changes leading to more than 60% of households reporting to have increase in water quantity and more than 32% having sufficient water during summers.
Though projects like these, MHT is empowering women to take action against four major climate risks: heat waves, flooding and inundation, water scarcity, and water-vector-borne diseases. These slow‐onset events attract less attention but frequently impact poor people, particularly women, the most.
Key Facts
Mahila Housing Sewa Trust (MHT) has helped organise 114 Community Action Groups, who have reached out to 27,227 women in 107 slums. Of the women they’ve worked with, 8,165 women were recorded to demonstrate an increase in “knowledge seeking behavior”.
Over 1,500 women have been trained as climate-saathis, who are responsible for communicating the issue of climate change with their community in their local language. Through this communications exercise, the proportion of participants who viewed climate change as an act of god reduced from 26 % to 9 %.
To date, around 28,000 energy audits have been undertaken in slum communities, which have saved families over USD 700,000 per annum in electricity costs. These money and energy saving interventions have included installing over 200 modular roofs and 500 roofs with solar reflective white paint, while having also led to a reduction of 105 tonnes of CO2e per annum.
The Problem
It is estimated that over 190.7 million people live in informal settlements in South Asia. These settlements are often densely populated and highly vulnerable to even the slightest changes to our climate.
MHT’s project is building the resilience capacities of over 25,000 low-income families living in slums and informal settlements across seven cities in three South Asian countries, including: Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Ranchi, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar (India); Dhaka (Bangladesh), and Kathmandu (Nepal).
Their initiatives empower women to lead local mitigation efforts to prevent key climate risks such as heatwaves, flooding and inundation, and climate change related incidences of water-vector borne diseases. These types of slow-onset events tend to attract less global attention, while also disproportionately impacting low-income households. Women are commonly the primary caregiver and responsible for household management, which renders them more vulnerable to these types of stresses.
The Solution
MHT has championed a women-led empowerment model for building climate resilience in the slums of South Asia, focused around organising groups of women in their communities. Their model builds upon the conviction that if the urban poor are provided with requisite knowledge to undertake vulnerability and risk assessments, and are equipped with available resilient‐technologies, they will be able to devise and implement locally relevant and pro‐poor, climate-resilient solutions
The project model emphasizes women taking the lead through collective action and technology incubation in order to devise these locally relevant, gender-sensitive and climate-resilient solutions. To make this possible, MHT, assists with facilitating the required infrastructure, institutional and financial mechanisms.
Helping the Planet
Through empowering women, this project is also helping reduce the emissions associated with the production of electricity in these communities. For example, one of MHT’s core initiatives trains women to become energy auditors and educate households on the nuances of energy use such as bill calculation, wattage consumption and energy wastage. As energy auditors, these women also encourage households to switch to more energy efficient products.
These trained energy auditors also act as grassroots level micro-entrepreneurs, by forming a women-led distribution network of green energy and building products. Energy auditors promote the installation of energy efficient LED bulbs and lights, modular roofs, airlite ventilator, many other solutions.
Helping People
While women from low-income families are often the most vulnerable as they have the least access to information and resources, MHT believes they also have the greatest potential to be empowered to become agents of change.
The rationale for the project is to provide these women with the requisite knowledge to undertake vulnerability and risk assessments, while also equipping them with the available climate resilient-technologies. This means they will be able to identify climate induced vulnerabilities, minimize risk and adopt locally relevant climate resilient solutions. In turn, these women also can potentially play a role in influencing better city planning and governance for pro-poor adaptation and resilience actions.
Spillover Effect
Currently, MHT is in the process of training other grassroots organisations to reproduce similar women-led groups in areas such as Bhubaneswar, Dhaka and Kathmandu.
While many other urban resilience programs are top-down and externally driven, MHT has made a concerted effort to ensure their initiatives are low-cost, contextually-appropriate and participatory. Urban poor that have been organized under this program gather critical planning data to design their own solutions and negotiate with other urban stakeholders, as well as test and manage implementation of these solutions.
Through empowering women to help improve their homes and communities, MHT’s initiatives have also triggered behavior change in communities towards making more informed decisions. This has in turn empowered them with the necessary knowledge to demand improved government services, thus proving that this concept can be expanded to other communities throughout the world.

Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah: The Evolution of India’s Premier Fast Bowler
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f252954b87add33f432c0f125a82117f/33becf7415b95f91-a2/s540x810/5b0fb1c2a01108b4922bbba42d03e0b6fff4594f.jpg)
Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah, a name that has become synonymous with fast bowling brilliance in the modern era, is a testament to the power of persistence, skill, and hard work. From a young aspiring cricketer in Ahmedabad to becoming one of the most feared pacers in world cricket, Bumrah’s rise has been nothing short of extraordinary. His unorthodox action, combined with his lethal yorkers, has revolutionized the way fast bowlers are perceived in limited-overs cricket. But how did Bumrah, with no traditional fast-bowling background, rise to become India’s bowling spearhead? This article delves into his journey, style, and the impact he has had on world cricket.
Early Life and Beginnings
Born on December 6, 1993, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Jasprit Bumrah’s journey to the international cricketing stage was not a typical one. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Bumrah did not hail from a cricketing family. His father, Jasbir Singh, worked in a private firm, and his mother, Daljit Kaur, was a homemaker. Cricket, however, ran in Bumrah’s veins, and he was introduced to the game at a very young age.
As a child, Bumrah was keen on playing cricket, but it was his natural affinity for bowling that set him apart. Initially, Bumrah was a medium-pace bowler, but it was his consistent bowling and his unusual, slinging action that drew attention. His unorthodox delivery method—spearheaded by his high-arm action and lethal yorkers—quickly became his signature, making him a force to reckon with in domestic cricket.
Bumrah’s breakthrough came in 2013 when he was picked up by the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Under the mentorship of former cricketer Ricky Ponting and with the guidance of Lasith Malinga, Bumrah honed his skills further, especially in the art of bowling yorkers in the death overs. It was this IPL stint that gave Bumrah the exposure he needed to refine his bowling technique and earn a reputation as one of the best death bowlers in the world.
International Debut: A Leap into the Big League
Bumrah’s performance in the IPL did not go unnoticed. He was soon called up to the Indian national team, making his debut in a T20 match against Sri Lanka in January 2016. His arrival was a breath of fresh air for Indian cricket, especially in the T20 format. His bowling was sharp, and his yorkers in the death overs became legendary from the very start. Bumrah’s seamless transition into international cricket came as a surprise to many, but his calm demeanor and focus on accuracy quickly made him a key player for India.
Bumrah’s ability to bowl in high-pressure situations—like defending a small total or bowling in the final overs of a tight match—earned him widespread acclaim. His focus on consistency, combined with his remarkable pace and swing, made him an indispensable part of India’s limited-overs setup. He quickly became the go-to bowler for captains MS Dhoni and later Virat Kohli when it came to closing out games.
The Breakthrough in Test Cricket
While Bumrah’s rise in limited-overs cricket was meteoric, his entry into Test cricket was a different challenge altogether. Despite being known for his T20 and ODI exploits, Bumrah made his Test debut in South Africa in 2018. His transition from the limited-overs formats to the Test format was closely watched by fans and critics alike. Bumrah, however, was undeterred, and his performances spoke volumes about his skill set.
His debut Test series was a resounding success, as he picked up crucial wickets on challenging pitches. Bumrah’s pace, bounce, and swing were instrumental in India’s victory in South Africa, and he became the first Indian fast bowler to take a five-wicket haul in Australia since 2004. His performances in Australia and later in England solidified his reputation as a complete bowler who could dominate across all formats.
Bumrah’s rise in Test cricket was a significant milestone in his career. Unlike traditional fast bowlers, he didn’t rely solely on raw pace; instead, his unconventional action allowed him to generate movement both in the air and off the pitch. His success in the longest format of the game demonstrated his adaptability and ability to perform under varied conditions.
The Art of Bowling: Bumrah’s Unique Style
One of the most remarkable aspects of Bumrah’s bowling is his ability to execute yorkers with such precision, making him a formidable weapon in the death overs. But his bowling technique is far from conventional. What stands out most is his high-arm, slingy action, which is often a nightmare for batsmen trying to predict his deliveries. His smooth run-up, coupled with his low-arm release, gives him the ability to swing the ball both ways, making him unpredictable and difficult to face.
Bumrah’s ability to bowl under pressure is unmatched. Whether it’s defending 15 runs off the last over or delivering a tight spell in the middle overs, Bumrah is always calm, focused, and in control of the situation. His mental toughness, especially in high-stakes moments, has made him a fan favorite. Bumrah’s consistent line and length, coupled with his knack for reading the game, are qualities that set him apart from many of his contemporaries.
Overcoming Injuries and Maintaining Consistency
Bumrah’s journey has not been without its hurdles. Over the years, the pacer has battled with multiple injuries, particularly back issues, which have kept him on the sidelines at various times. Yet, each time Bumrah returned to the field, he did so with a renewed determination and hunger. His ability to bounce back from setbacks is a testament to his resilience and his unwavering commitment to his craft.
In recent years, Bumrah has also embraced the role of a mentor for young fast bowlers in India, offering them valuable insights into the art of fast bowling. His experiences with injuries have made him a more mature bowler, focusing not only on his fitness but also on injury prevention and workload management.
Legacy and the Road Ahead
As Bumrah continues to evolve as a cricketer, his legacy is already firmly established. He has become the face of modern fast bowling, redefining the role of a fast bowler in limited-overs cricket. His exceptional skills, combined with his calm demeanor and ability to thrive under pressure, have made him one of the best bowlers in the world. Bumrah’s leadership in the bowling department has been a cornerstone of India’s success in international cricket, and his performances in key series and tournaments have left an indelible mark on the game.
Looking ahead, Bumrah’s future in cricket looks as bright as ever. Despite the challenges of modern-day cricket, with increased workloads and injuries, Bumrah has consistently demonstrated that he is one of the finest fast bowlers to ever play the game. Whether in Tests, ODIs, or T20Is, he has proven his worth and will continue to be a key figure in Indian cricket for years to come.
In conclusion, Jasprit Bumrah’s journey from a young cricketer with a unique action to becoming one of the most celebrated fast bowlers in world cricket is a story of talent, resilience, and undying passion. His legacy as a cricketer is firmly secured, and he will be remembered as one of the game’s greats—someone who changed the game of fast bowling forever.

[ad_1] Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma (PC: X) RevSportz Comment If you go by the irate reaction to India’s squad selection for the upcoming Champions Trophy, you’d think Ajit Agarkar and his panel had chosen a couple of goatherds from Jhumri Telaiya and not some of the best cricketers to have ever played the 50-over format. Some of the abuse directed at individual cricketers and the selectors is a reminder of the immaturity and illogical nature of big sections of India’s cricket fan base. Just consider this. Only six Indian batters have averaged over 45 in ODI cricket while scoring at least 2000 runs. Sachin Tendulkar, the greatest of them all, isn’t on the list, having finished his career with an average of 44.83. MS Dhoni (50.23) last played more than half a decade ago. The other five are all part of this team. Shubman Gill, now bizarrely being cited in some quarters as an example of nepotism, leads the way with an average of 58.20. Both he and Shreyas Iyer have strike-rates over 100. Virat Kohli (average 58.18, SR 93.54) and Rohit Sharma (average 49.16, SR 92.43) have astonishing numbers for men who have played so long, while KL Rahul’s average and strike-rate are both similar to Dhoni’s. So, why this hate, especially when this core group put together the best World Cup campaign India have ever had, even if it ended in heartbreak in Ahmedabad? Other than the immortal Australian sides captained by Ricky Ponting, no team had ever dominated a World Cup like India did on home soil. The batting was sublime, the bowling incisive and the fielding often top-notch. Since then, India have played just six ODIs. For the three in South Africa soon after the 2023 World Cup, the heavy hitters stayed away, with only Rahul in the fray. Then, at the start of Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as coach, the full star cast was there in Sri Lanka as the hosts turned the tables on India with typically ragged Premadasa Stadium pitches. In each game, the toss was decisive, and the ball turned and jumped at crazy angles even before the lacquer was off the white ball. You can rest assured that an ICC tournament will not have such pitches, and India’s worrying frailty against spin won’t be tested in such a way. Nor will the batters have to endure the sort of forensic examination by pace that they did at the hands of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland in Australia. The edges that flew to the slip cordon will now, mostly, become singles to third man. Much of the selection uproar is rooted in the angst over that Australia result. But mixing formats is never a good idea, just as it’s foolish to extrapolate great run-scoring feats in domestic cricket to the international arena. Yes, Karun Nair had a superb Vijay Hazare Trophy – as did his teammate, Dhruv Shorey, who finished off with three straight hundreds – but are we seriously comparing that to players with stellar international records? Can this Indian team then replicate those World Cup performances and add to the T20 World Cup crown won in such dramatic circumstances in Barbados last June? At first glance, there’s no reason why not. If, and that is admittedly a big concern, Jasprit Bumrah is fully fit, the sky is the limit. Though Mohammed Siraj has dropped off a little and missed out on selection, Mohammed Shami’s return is a huge boost. Arshdeep Singh has already shown that he has the intelligence and variations to switch to a longer format after his exploits in the T20 arena, while Hardik Pandya gives India the balance they so sorely missed in the World Cup final 14 months ago. The spin larder is very well stocked, especially if Kuldeep Yadav is back to peak fitness. There are understandable murmurs about the selection of Rishabh Pant ahead of Sanju Samson, especially given Pant’s relatively modest ODI average of 33.50. But we saw in the Australia Tests just how devastating Pant can be on his day, and there isn’t a team in the world that would ignore that sort of X-factor. Australia kept faith
in the late Andrew Symonds for years, and when he finally turned it on in the 2003 World Cup, he went on to be part of two unbeaten Cup-winning teams. A little less whining and a lot more support would go a long way. This group of players have almost never let India down in white-ball cricket, and there’s no reason to think they’ll fall away now. If the dressing room can shut the door on negativity and pull together, another sustained title tilt is very much in the offing.
