So imagine my surprise when I open the comment section of RBR's Lestappen post on Instagram and literally the most liked comment with 800+ likes starring back at me is MY OWN POST from yesterday word for word too. Lmfao , it was such a conflicting moment bcz on one hand it was such a "mom, I'm famous!!" moment bcz smth smth about immitation is the greatest form of flattery but also like wow why is that person being appreciated for a thought I HAD. But anyway I know it's not a big deal bcz it's not a fic afterall but still I just had to share this with somebody so I thought you might be the best person. It's still weird tho lol .

Yeah, plagiarizing posts is unfortunately nothing new. If you say something funny on the internet, somebody is bound to steal it and pass it own as their own idea, that's just how it works. And given how many posts are meme posts, it's also kind of hard to claim ownership over it given how others have used the same format many times before with different content, which I think adds to how easy it is for people to take someone else's posts and pass them off as their own without seeing a problem with it. It's still sad, though, especially when they do it word for word, and I'm sorry that happened to you. They do say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but there are still limits.

Although it would personally affect me a lot more if somebody tried to plagiarize one of my fics (which did happen not too many months ago, surprisingly enough by someone quite big in the fandom as well) than one of my posts, it's still annoying as hell and definitely weird.

finally… I have completed my tenko doodles!!!! These took the longest because no one tells u how hard it is to draw a guy looking tender when in almost all reference material he’s looking absolutely insane. Like I almost scraped the drawing of the ice cream shop scene because it felt like something was wrong with it, but I love that scene so much and i had to draw it. His smile.. His laugh. anyway . . I love Tenko in this fic 😭😭😭😭😭 I love my runescape bf so much, he’s so thoughtful when he gets reader lovely noise canceling headphones because they’re stuck with shitty wired ones that they keep losing, SPEAKING OF. I loved the little mentions of the fact that reader kept having stuff go missing and Tenko randomly finding these things in his room, and it gradually escalates to them finding out so welll .ur attention to detail is insane. Another thing about this fic I love is that the dynamic goes crazy. it felt like getting kicked down the stairs reading about all the shit reader has to deal with, like it was so awful I had to take a heal cause I felt so bad for them 😭😭😭 but!! Tenko is actually there for them and they actually have someone that they can talk to!! And reader helps him in the same way… its healing.. anyway sorry for yap, your writing is incredible and it makes sososo inspired. Follow up on the Tune In ask, Thank you for your response!! And please, never apologize for the length, it was greatly insightful. I actually haven't started on the book yet but it came highly recommended to me as The definitive Beatles biography so I was looking around to see what others think of it. Most of the critical opinions I found on this site seem consistent with your criticisms especially about Lewisohn's tendency to cherry pick quotes or imposing a new context on them...

Well, that formatted weird. Sorry. Anyway, I will definitely try to give as thorough an answer as I have time for, so that may mean just a few examples. If you want a deeper dive I can recommend the Another Kind of Mind Series, Fine Tuning. I don't agree entirely with their approach, but I agree for the most part with their findings and concerns, if that makes sense. And then there's Serene's blog entry which does a more thorough examination of the way Lewisohn ... hrm, shall we say, stretches citations to mean... whatever he wants.

I don't know that I am going to be able to go into quite as much detail here as I didn't keep these good notes while reading. But I can think of a few things that stuck out to me before I listened/read these other takes. And I'm happy to keep talking about this or expand, I'm not saying I don't like doing this, just that I am not gonna ... okay I'm going to write an essay? But I won't be as meticulous as I should be.

The first thing that made me stop reading and just go track down what was actually going on was a passage in which Lewisohn is talking about teen Paul's resistance to getting a job, going against Jim. From Tune In:

Paul still hated anyone telling him what to do -- 'It just never occurred to me to listen to other people' -- but when Jim insisted, sometimes Paul did as bid... as John scathingly noted. He went down to the Labour Exchange and Renshaw Hall and landed a £10-a-week Christmas-period job with SPD Ltd, Speedy Prompt Deliveries.

Now, all on its own without context this is a great Paul McCartney quote because you go, "yeah that checks out." I plan on using it as a sort of Macca meme, you know? But it was soooo Paul I thought, "wait, in what context did he say that? Like, he doesn't listen ever? He's admitting he just doesn't listen to anyone?"

So weirdly, it's not actually footnoted, but I found the source. It's a 1980 interview with Tim Rice, which is entertaining in its own right because he tells the guy who co-wrote Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita and later The Lion King that, you know, musicals are boring. Anyway, not the point.

It took me awhile to find the actual quote, because it's really a throwaway, almost self-deprecating aside, in the context of how he's listening to people more now because he's realized too many smart people just talk and it might be good to listen some.

So okay. Paul did say that, and he's admitting there was a time he didn't take the time to listen, but he's doing it in a sort of jokey way. I guess it's fair to say, generally, sure, Paul has a tendency to be headstrong and go his own way and that certainly would have been a factor in his psychological battle with Jim Mac over going to get his teaching license or whatever. It's not like Lewisohn is bending the facts of anything. It's not really a big deal. But it was the moment that clued me in that he's not necessarily using like for like. There's plenty of quotes about how Paul felt about this time in his life without using a joke from 1980 to shore up your point about his resistance to dad, in a paragraph that implies he's saying it about his resistance to dad. And when you've decide that "it just never occurred to me to listen to other people" can mean "and that's why he didn't listen to Jim about work, except this time he did," I don't know. It leaves a funny taste in my mouth because then you could use it for anything Paul decides to do differently. If that makes sense. If it applies there, it applies to anything Paul does. And Paul obviously didn't mean that in 1980.

Also maybe this is more nuanced, but while "Paul still hated anyone telling him what to do" is a true statement in any time in his life, that quote itself? Is neither necessarily relevant to being told what to do or very revealing. It actually is entirely unnecessary. The passage would be completely benign and throw me no red flags without it.

Like any of the points I make or, frankly, I've heard others make, it's less that he's saying untrue things and more that by using these citations in ways that remove them from context and add them to a different context, he is painting a picture but passing it off as fact. In addition, he often will use a quote from John's angry, Lennon Remembers period to interpret Paul's motives in the early 60s, rather than using, oh I dunno, a quote from.... Paul? Or a nicer quote from John when he's contradicted himself again? Again it's all legit sourcing and citing! But the contextualizing creates something he's selling as free of interpretation which is anything but.

The other one I've been thinking about is laid out quite well in I think episode 3 of the AKOM pod, and it's about Paul's creative development. While John's is described as original and a free spirit and rebellious in his artistic ambitions--which he was--Paul's artistic endeavors almost always come with a weasel word or caveat. What I mean is, John is always described as inventive; Paul is a gifted mimic. This despite a lot of attention paid to how John was basically copying his favorite cartoonists and artists--he even says at some point everything he does is Just William and Lewis Carroll. But somehow when he does it, it's extraordinary. He's got his own voice, while Paul is a talented parrot. Lewisohn gives props to all of Paul's many accomplishments but there's always either some kind of adjective like that to take away from it or this thing that creeps in where everything Paul does is for show. There are numerous places in Tune In where Paul is ostentatiously reading difficult books so he can be seen reading them. Anytime he's trying something new or going to explore a new art form or theater experience, Lewisohn has to point out that he wants to be seen to be doing something clever. When he writes songs, Lewisohn points out that he's not just writing songs, he's thinking about the image of being a writer or something like that. It's never because he's artistic, or likes the thing. He needs to be seen as someone liking the thing.

Now, we do have a quote from Paul about this. He does mention thinking about the image of a poet with the pipe and the leather patches, and he does at one point get a pipe and you know, famously pretend to be French to try to pull birds. (He does this again on that little week off he takes in France, years later, reminiscing about imagining he's a novelist in a cafe.) It's not that I'm saying Paul isn't capable of being pretentious! (I still have the beret I insisted on getting for my birthday when I was 16. I'm not immune. I still look great in it.) But Paul's, again, self-deprecating description of himself as a goofy teen appears to be the only 'proof' Lewisohn has that his reading, his art, his going to shows alone no one else cares about, is a pretense.

Again. It's not a huge deal and it's not like Paul didn't factually do all of this. It's that in a text that he's insisted in the front matter is free of speculation, Lewisohn's included numerous interpretations of Paul's (and others') motives without any direct proof/citation for those interpretations. That, I'm afraid, is speculative. And that's fine for an author to engage in--but he needs to be clear about it.

For the record he does this with John, too. He interprets numerous, sometimes almost contradictory actions of John's as "evidence" of his ability to lead. Sometimes he's like, in front and sometimes he's doing nothing and Lewisohn will conclude this was John also leading.

The point of all this isn't, like I said in my original post, that I think any one of these things is that bad. Paul's kinda pretentious? Maybe sometimes he did like to be seen reading War and Peace or whatever? Maybe John sitting back and watching what his mates are going to do is leadership? The problem, for me, is that it's not presented in a way that meets the premise of Lewisohn's introduction, which promises a work free of the prejudices and unsubstantiated speculation of his forebears. And I really do think that Lewisohn has convinced himself that he's done enough research and been a keen enough "Paul watcher" that it no longer counts as interpretation. I fear he may actually believe that he's done the math.

Again, I think you should read it. I loved the attention to detail and you'll get a lot out of it. But just be aware of this tendency, which I no longer think I'm imagining. And these are just the first two things I thought of and wanted to rant about.

I found this meme online and wish I could credit whoever made it, but I couldn’t find who it’s originally from. Regardless, I thought this was both funny and accurate. It includes a photo of Darcy from the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, which I have yet to see other than clips on TikTok (but hopefully over spring break). There is a text box overlay of a tweet that says “Darcy to Elizabeth: I’m sorry I roasted you. I was trying to flirt”, essentially following the popular meme format known as “incorrect quotes” in which someone will take a fictional character and attach them with a quote that they didn’t say, but the character definitely give the same energy. This meme implies that Darcy fits the description of someone who would say that.

The quote feels like the epitome of enemies-to-lovers. It reminded me a lot of our discussion yesterday on Darcy and his appeal. We talked about the mystery of him and how he grows on you. This type of character that Austen created remains popular and the trope she used is extremely prevalent in all forms of media – even in fanfiction. We see Darcy’s growing passion for Elizabeth throughout the novel after they first meet. Even after he says not-so-great things about her and they are seen bickering, Darcy can’t help his affection: “Darcy had never been so bewitched by any woman as he was by her. He really believed, that were it not for the inferiority of her connections, he could be in some danger” (Austen 38). Perfect enemies-to-lovers quote. Austen just gets it.

To add onto the topic of enemies-to-lovers remaining extremely popular today, season two of Bridgerton is a good example. I watched Bridgerton prior to any footing in the Jane Austen realm, but after reading half of Pride and Prejudice, I see some resemblance in the relationships between Anthony and Kate versus Elizabeth and Darcy, especially considering Bridgerton also takes places in Regency-era England and follows the infamous enemies-to-lovers trope. There is something about the thin line between love and hate that Austen so expertly did in P&P that still speaks to audiences today.

Ooooh I'll do you one BETTER, here's 3 original pencil test animatics for the Powerpuff Girls back when they were still called the "Whoop-Ass Girls" 😅 Two of these eventually went on to be real episodes, the middle pencil test being a very short, very early version of "Monkey See, Doggy Do", the first episode of the series!! It also has Rob Renzetti, the creator of My Life as a Teenage Robot, doing the voice for Mojo since its just a lil test thing

This is... honestly strange. I am definitely a much much bigger fan of Mojo's design and voice in the finished show (angry lil evil geniuses with voices way too deep for their size my beloved) but its of course so fascinating to see where it all began!! Also very noteworthy that he has the title of "Dr." here. Who gave that chimp a PhD 😂 (side note very funny that the uploader of this has a Cortex profile pic. Can I ever escape 💀)

3) Which medium is your f/o animated in? 2D, 3D? Do you think they’d look better in a different one? 

The show is of course in that lovely old cel-animation 2D (up until they went digital in the last 2 seasons but I like the pre-digital look a bit more), and tbh I want it to stay JUST like that 😭 The only way a 3D style would work for me is if is was extremely stylized, like that newest TMNT movie where you can picture the characters in 2D perfectly.

That being said! I have not yet seen that one CG special they made in 2014 and I actually don't even know if Mojo Jojo's in that or not anyway, so if he is, when I eventually watch that then I'll know how I feel abt him in 3D! :3

4) Which “era” of animation is your f/o from? 

The beautiful cartoon wra of the late 90s, when everything was still 2D cel animated, episodic, and very, VERY zany 💖💖💖💖 Listen I adore cartoons nowadays I will not complain about the current state of story driven series, but there is something so nostalgic and fun about the old format of going back to the status quo every episode 💖 That aside! I adore how the "UPA style" of simple shapes was all over the goddamn place at this point in time, and I'd say Powerpuff Girls is the most iconic example of this style!!

I’m a big fan of HxH too which Gege draws inspiration from heavily. The Chimera Ant Arc is considered one of the greatest pieces of literature by fans. The kicker is…as it was coming out in a weekly format, everyone hated it. Only after it was finished and read uninterrupted did people really start loving it. I almost wonder if that’ll happen with the Sukuna fight too.

Media Literacy curse in JJK fans is really funny to me regardless. Gojo’s racism didn’t come out of nowhere. He was already kind of sus to Miguel in JJK0. This only confirmed the allegations people picked up on then. One thing I love about Gege’s writing is future information permanently changing how you view older scenes. This is one of those times. It makes me love Gojo more tbh. (I have a soft spot for racists who try to do better.)

People are too hard on Megumi for sure (even if I find the memes kind of funny). Not a lot of people realized that he spent his 16th birthday trapped inside Sukuna all by himself. Which probably made the Tsumiki death feel even worse. (I have no doubt she forced him to celebrate it.) Then he kills his adopted father and has 0 family left and is somehow supposed to tough it out. He’s just a little boy!

Yuji has always been built bigger too. His official weight is super heavy for his height. Gege explicitly stated that was done on purpose. Smh I wish people could read.

So I am Hawaiian-Filipino, my father is white however I was raised by my mother who held the ideals she grew up with.

Now the problem with tourism is not only does it actively mess up the environment but it also destroys the economy in Hawai’i, which I don’t need to go over I don’t think.

BUT THE WHOLE THING, IS THAT IT IS STOLEN LAND. And Native Hawaiians are STILL being kicked out of their homes, STILL struggling with everything they lost in Lahaina, STILL struggling with the water being poisoned. And yet people STILL have the audacity to take a “cute little vacation to perfect Hawai’i”.

I can NEVER go to the islands, the islands my family are from mind you, BECAUSE TOURISM FUCKED THEM UP. The amount of disrespect tourists have for the islands is insane. I can’t speak on what tourism is really like as I have never been to Hawai’i except for when I was an infant. But I do see what Native Hawaiians say, I see the damage caused by tourists when I see content by the Hawaiians.

And it’s frustrating, so very frustrating. How can people be SO disrespectful to land that they not only visit, but actively keep colonized.

I always encourage everyone to do their own research on Hawai’i and Hawaiian culture! Especially before America comes in and colonizes them. It’s hard to find accurate sources, and it’s been a while since I’ve done my own research so I don’t have any available websites on their history.

Honestly, the weekly format is only “annoying” because they wait, expect the story to drastically change, and then get more story the next week. And it HAS to be something different or it’s Bad Writing (so incredibly NOT happy with people saying that Gege’s writing is bad, there are some iffy moments but it’s overall AMAZING)

Tbh I think the internet has ruined people’s media literacy, so I encourage everyone to write something, but you can’t outright state what you’re trying to say in your story. Let your friends guess what your story conveys, it’s a great way to help boost media literacy (it’s like if ELA class was cool)

And I think we’ve covered everything about Megumi and Yuji.

Full transparency, I've been alternating between the audiobook and actually reading Pride and Prejudice– driving back to school from Spring break with the audiobook playing was perfect company, truthfully. One thing that is lost in just reading the book myself that is so apparent through listening the audiobook (and through watching the 2005 version of the movie on the plane over break) is how creepy and awkward Mr. Collins is. I definitely still get the awkwardness from reading, with Austen's noting how overly gregarious and uncomfortable every interaction with him is. But the breathy tone of voice used for him in the free audio on Audible (Which, woohoo! I love free stuff!) is truly unbearable. It reminds me of the stereoytpical know-it-all CS major that I'm all too familiar with... really brutal, but also they'll probably get a better job than me after gradaution. I digress. The audiobook is hard to listen to solely for how horrendous Mr. Collins's dialogue is. Even worse, though, is the slimy, awkward presentation of him in the 2005 rendition. He's always seen lurking, always out of place. Even the scene where he has to repeat himself multiple times to be heard by the much-taller Darcy is just painful. Truly well done in casting, acting and directing. If I were Elizabeth I would have made a much less graceful rejection.

As for this specific meme, it shows Mr. Collins from the 1995 adaptation, which seems to portray him just as insufferably. The sneer really is on point for his character. For Elizabeth and the general audience, this meme is accurate, except for poor Charlotte. If she had it her way, I'm sure celibacy would have been a preferable option. Though for a 19th century woman, I understand the necessity of marrying up and into wealth. This meme format is particularly funny because it litearlly frames Collins in a way that looks like it should be on a shirt or in a picture frame with the black border. Though, I don't know if anyone would want that sneer on a shirt. Honestly though, with the pickings, Collins, Wickham and (hot take incoming... sorry I'm not a fan of the brooding type even if he is good looking) Darcy, celibacy may be a good option in the case of many. Like Elizabeth, I could also probably be pursuaded by a grand house, the promise of a secure future and a nice confession of love, but my point stands that Collins isn't the only unfavorable option. Regardless, though, he is definitely shown as the least.

Big spoon Vail / Little spoon Lei. They could def swap though but this is their usual formation if they're spooning. Little spooning is def by Lei's request but she'll big spoon him if she wants him to feel extra comfy!

Lends clothes (Vail)/ Borrows clothes (Lei) - This is self explanatory. I already drew Lei in Vail's hoodie. She really likes to "borrow" his clothes, as in, she'll wear them until they don't smell like him anymore and then return them to him XD. I do have this funny quote thing so I headcanon he steals her fuzzy socks. I'll draw that one day :3 But I also think it would be hard for him to borrow her clothes even if they're similar heights because he has a SIZ of 65 (muscle mass) and she has a SIZ of 50 which means she's probably built like a stick XD

Pet names - Vail seems like the type of person who calls people by their name/ what they want to be called. So he would prob call Lei "Lei" which is something she even requests at the end of the campaign! (Before he called her "Doc"). Lei is definitely into pet names though! In the cyberpunk universe she probably calls him "my love" 🥺

Introversion/Extroversion - this one was kinda hard NGL. Lei is def more introverted but she isn't suuuper "Ew people" cuz she is a doctor and forced to interact with people. Because Vail likes to talk/ramble, I put him as slightly more extroverted but he didn't have enough screentime so XD I couldn't confirm this theory. He didn't seem that open to talking with Liam in the campaign but it could have been due to lack of time who knows 😔 By comparison Vail is prob more extroverted than Lei at least.

Affection through words (LEi) / Affection through actions (Vail) - Lei is both LMAO cuz her love language is physical touch. But she also expresses affection through her words! This is especially true because if she doesn't like you she won't even bother talking to you. But if she likes you, she'll say sweet things to you/compliment you AND if she really really likes you she'll be physically affectionate! Vail is def an actions person XD I mean we're talking about the guy who bought her a cat for her birthday. I think sometimes she can feel a bit sadge if he doesn't verbally validate her/ have words of affirmation for her but they work with it 🥺

Confesses first (Lei) / Waits for confession (Vail) - THIS ONE IS CANON LMAOOO. Although the first time they hung out it was him who initiated, she has to make him ask her for dinner XD and then when she said it was date he was like ayo alright XD

Bugs - I feel like they're both capable of bug squashing so I put them around the same level... now I feel like if we want to dig into catboy vail his should be reallyyy far into it but I'm not changing it for now XD maybe in an updated one sometime down the line

Drives car (Vail) / can't drive (Lei) - this is also canon XD Vail drives around bikes so he has to be a decent driver, although I didn't see DRIVE in his invested skills according to the stats the dm gave me so like 🤔🤔 Lei has the base DRIVE of like 20? So I mean she can drive. But it's not great XD I would say she's just not very confident, esp in the slums where people speed a lot. She prob felt safer in the Middle district.

can't cook (Vail) / makes dinner (Lei) - Vail prob never had a chance to learn how to cook and he says "food in the slums generally sucks" XD But Lei is a good cook. I mean she cooks drugs so she has to be good at cooking food too (COPE). I just want her to be a good cook so therefore she is.

PDA - Lei likes PDA! She wants everyone to know who her man belongs to, but I think she'd be more like into handholding and clinging to him. The other stuff she prefers to do in private :3 Although she's def up to giving him cheek kisses here and there. Vail probably doesn't particularly mind, if it makes Lei happy :)

Overprotective / Chillgoing - THIS WAS HARD. Lei is def on the overprotective side, especially when it comes to her loved ones, she gets very desperate. But I mean I would imagine Vail would be protective if she were in danger. But overall he's supposed to be a chill dude so I imagine she's just chill. Like oh you're going to Prism HQ and killing some jerks? I'll come with <- maybe something like this LOL

Relationship experience - It is canon Vail has no relationship exp (like me frfr) but Lei's had 2 relationships in the past, so she has more exp than him.

(WARNING: NSFW IMPLIED) HORNY METER: I feel like they're quite similar in levels of horniness. I think mostly Lei has to initiate because Vail is shy uwu about those types of things. But once he's in the mood and the switch has been flipped... pray for Lei LOL. He will let her have control as much as she wants but if she wants him to dom... it's over for her XD a Runner and their stamina y'know... In my headcanons, he is secretly quite horny just never had the chance to express it. He is a young man after all 😔 But he has really good self control :) His willpower is 70. Lei was not supposed to be super thirsty but she is played by me so.... y'know... some stuff happened XD

AWKWARDNESS METER: Lei isn't super super awkward but there are definitely situations where she has no idea what to do, especially to circumstances that are new to her. For example, needing to learn how to do a runner's job XD that was hard for her. In highschool she was def much more awkward but she's grown out of her shell a little. In terms of this relationship, I imagine she gets awkward because she doesn't quite believe she's in a relationship with him XD (she'd be like "really? Are you sure you want me?" and he's like "yeah we had this convo last week") Vail is pretty chill so I think he's barely awkward. I imagine he's only awkward as he's new to this whole relationship business :)

JEALOUSY METER: Vail is not supposed to get jealous so hence why there's like nothing there for him. I would say he either 1) feels secure in his relationships + trusts Lei and 2) Would want the best for her so if she finds someone that makes her happier than him, he would easily let her go. Lei though... is much more insecure than he is. It's something that I would develop for her if she lives XD in the future, because she is slowly gaining confidence in herself! :) She is a capable woman, she simply needs to realize that. But yeah she's the type to get jealous, if she sees him with women who are prettier and younger than her. But she is lucky because he doesn't

being lonely. being unforgivable. on the opposite end: being under someone else’s thumb forever. these are not that far apart. the natural cost of refusing to let people close enough to control you, is that you never let them close enough to love you either. and then you miss them like an open wound and they have control over you forever anyway.

HA like they recognize that objectively it’s a bad thing to do, and they’re not going to try to possess you to your face but otherwise no real qualms. hero/villain possessions like with argent are rare: pain in the ass, don’t shit in your own backyard type stuff. mostly little things like the puppet at the beginning of rebirth: pick someone up, dust them off, do some minor job—then put them down, safe and only a little confused after. maybe even drop them where they were going. if elmo was, you know, mangling a guy’s brain on the reg, they’d feel a little weirder, but as it stands they’re confident enough in their own telepathic skill that they don’t really feel the need to feel bad. nice and easy: you won’t feel a thing.

they… miss the optimism. the certainty that they were doing the right thing the best way they knew how. the feeling of trusting someone to have your back. elmo still likes being liked, even after everything. but what they really don’t like, is being pushed back and covered up. going back to sidestep days means ignoring all the shitty things that happened after—and if it means addressing the issue and getting payback, then they just have to accept that that time in their life is irrecoverable. of course things are worse now: the truth is out. (this is what they get so mad at ortega for. what do you mean we’re back in the good old days?)

his arrogance stat is at—16? which is so funny for a guy who is actively harassing the kingpin of LD. i think he wants to be… widely-known, but not well. on a personal level, that’s safer, for him and the people who really know him: chentega, the rangers, bo and the crew, even mortum.

but on a professional level? it makes it easier to build an organization when no one knows what they’re looking for. the public has no face, no name, no discernable agenda, but he’s there and the other shoe will drop someday. hollow ground can keep the name: he doesn’t want to be at the forefront of the city’s cultural consciousness, but he’s seating himself somewhere deep in the urban amygdala.

18 what is their greatest fear?

he would say that the greatest fear has already happened. by “dying” as sidestep, he found out exactly how little he mattered to the system and the world at large. whatever good he tried to do as a hero and as an individual got washed away in the end, and for his troubles he got years of physical and mental torment. so like—there’s not much worse it can get!

but that’s mostly a coverup: haha, i’m not scared anymore, he says, scared. these days he mostly worries about things getting out of hand. he’s not afraid of losing, not afraid of death—he’s nervous that he will eventually be overtaken and destroyed by the consequences of his own actions. so he prunes it down, tightens the leash, keeps the inner circle small and his connections private—gets rid of anything that unmoors him from the reality of his situation. and hopefully that’s enough.

okay so. disclaimer: i watched the first 2 episodes of jojo and only saw the memes before that so. read my opinion with that in mind

well, yeah, their physique and style is one factor for sure, but i was prepared for that - what i wasnt was that the dudes were 15. like???????

even more so though, its the machoism that oozed from every frame of it. my mum has coined an adjective for media like this, "pasis filmek" (roughly can be translated to "men's movies") - the plot and whole vibe had this male gaze, not only with women but with men too. and i mean like what (mostly teenage) cishet guys would find cool (the muscles, the fights, the monolouging and dramatic dialogues, etc). very "i take the alpha male yt videos to heart" vibes, and not the fun (a/b/o) type.

now, i've met and saw many of non-cishet men fans of the show as well (baffling to me ngl) but like. this hugely masculine macho themes are not at all my thing and i said toxic masculinity personified bc its fine if you watch it knowing this body and vibe isnt something to strive for but. we all know many arent watching it like that. i know a guy (same age as me) who would unironically want that body type. something thats simply humanly not possible. and ofc he has huge body image issues

so i guess my main beef with it is that its shounen - at that target age (and even later on as well for some) it is extremely easy to internalize stuff that can stick with you for years to come.

all in all im gonna stick with only seeing jojo in meme formats as those are still very funny lol
