this part especially, holy moly. to me, Jinx only felt like herself a couple of times this season, and it was mostly when she grieved Silco. other than that, they let her make a couple of MCU like jokes that are completely ooc for her character imo, and they regressed and downplayed any kind of character development she had in season 1 (and how huge of an impact Silco and his deatheft on her and her motivation to attack the council)

THIS. that's what probably frustrates me the most. why should I care about Ambessa and Black Rose? where did all that conflict go? Jayce, Heimerdinger, and Ekko are gone for the most part of season 2 and I'm pretty sure that Black Rise and Ambessa have the most screen time while the show isn't supposed to be about them at ALL. the characters that we live and care about, so are their stories, are long forgotten and just being dragged around to create an illusion that they still matter.

they totally should've stuck with Zaun vs Piltover, how Silco's death affected Jinx and how it drives her to riot and fight for him and the people of Zaun, and keep noxus and whatever that Black Rose thing is for another show. I don't care about Ambessa and I don't want to see her stealing screen time from the characters this show is supposed to be about.

not to mention the conflict between Vi and Jinx. suddenly they're one big happy family with Vander/Warwick. "he's your father too" but apparently Silco didn't do anything there? and was never Jinx's motivation? ugh.

they should've had 3 seasons or at least not turn season 2 into a completely different story arc. they should've kept all those characters and new arcs for another show that they want to create. the show was supposed to be a 5 season show, but it turned out to be too expensive, apparently, so instead of doing the right thing by the story and characters from s1, they just turned s2 into a complete illogical mess.

there’s a limit to how long you can let a phase go on before it’s just stagnation. jinx’s apathy and lack of motivation is a little out of character considering her decision at the end of season one, but i can see it as a temporary phase she would struggle with.

however, the show’s almost over and they’re not letting her do anything outside of it. it’s been 2/3 of the very limited runtime and she’s still not herself. she’s not scheming or planning, her homicidal tendencies, anger, insecurity, hallucinations, desperate need for connection, codependency, impulsivity, and willingness to be extreme are suddenly gone with no explanation, her usual strange anachronistic and unusual way of speaking and mannerisms are gone and have been replaced with mild sarcasm, and on the rare occasions they let her build something, it has no lasting effects and is immediately undone.

jinx’s creation of fishbones and the attack on the council was the culmination of her season one arc and one of the most dramatic moments in the entire season. but the effects of the rocket are toned down and brushed off. fishbones barely gets fired once before being torn apart by the hextech glitching, which doesn’t make any sense considering the gauntlets and rifle and sevika’s scar were all fine after the glitching stopped. her other guns are quickly disposed of as well, being torn apart by vi and overloaded by isha, and jinx only fires them a couple ineffective times before they’re scrapped. her bombs don’t do anything either, with a few harmless firework/smoke bombs being used as distractions and one that could actually do some damage showing up to magically un-lobotomize vander. she stops fighting back against piltover apart from one scene where she redirects the gray away from zaun and splatters a few buildings with paint. that can barely even be considered an attack. the arm that she builds sevika gets an interesting scene but it’s quickly reworked and destroyed as well. her inventions and creations are a huge part of her character and they’re stripped of effectiveness and meaning.

with better writing, maybe a slightly longer runtime, and shortening down some less necessary plotlines or cutting them out entirely to save them for one of the other shows they’ve said they want to make, it would be easily possible to show both jinx’s emotional vulnerability, grief about the loss of silco and disconnect with vi, connection with isha/sevika/zaun, and her usual weirdness and creativity and volatility. several of those things could be blended together and showed in the same scene. but they’re not.

they’re also just not letting her have any substantial effect on the plot or make decisions of her own. she doesn’t choose anything, she gets pushed along by the whims of others and what the people around her want. she’s not acting, she’s just reacting. and somehow her first thought upon seeing warwick is to go clean up and recruit vi? and then she doesn’t have any anger or complex feelings about the whole situation with vander returning but not silco? as soon as vander’s back she stops missing silco apart from when she finds his coat? she just cooperates with vi’s plan to get warwick healed and wanders around viktor’s cult aimlessly without a care in the world, letting everyone else do whatever while she sits around with isha? she doesn’t have anything she wants, she doesn’t have any goals, she doesn’t care about the piltover vs zaun conflict anymore, her anger about the entire political situation is inexplicably gone just like caitlyn’s.

i’m hoping that we get a few good moments in act 3, but considering that they just killed off isha right before the last act and now she’s going to be straight back to grieving, it’s difficult to keep my hopes up. also please no spoilers i haven’t seen the leaks and i don’t want to

If anything, there are enough of those. What we need more of are representations of romantic relationships that don't revolve solely around romantic love. Carol and Daryl are a great example of how you can have a caring and loving relationship that isn't conditional on romance. By saying they should stay platonic, you're insinuating that you can only have one or the other.

Either he was so incompetent in his cultural appropriation that he pulled a “14-year-old anime fan on Twitter” and smashed two cool-sounding words together to make a name and didn't think of the meaning and connotations

With those "pleasantries" (/sarcasm) out of the way, serious answer, I don't think Magolor picked his name at all. Kirby gets to the point where Magolor is willing to open up to him and bashfully admit he's not actually from Halcandra? If "Magolor" wasn't his true name, this would be the time to admit that too. But he doesn't.

Meaning that IS something true.

Now, why was he named that? To be honest, I heavily lean toward the "Halcandran descendant" theory myself. Not because it makes his Halcandran cosplay look better, but because it fits better thematically with the stuff in the epilogue.

Yes, he has to fight Mistelteinn because, regardless of what evils the past kings had done, HE was the one to steal it from atop Landia's head where it was at least relatively contained.

But him witnessing the destruction of Halcandra in the background? I feel like that kind of stuff only has emotional meaning if it's HIS ancestor's foolishness he is seeing.

(Also, as I wrote here, one of the pause descriptions uses the world "take back" the crown, so there is some evidence to support the fact that he felt he had even the most tenuous claim to it.)

Back to why he was named that...

Halcandra is a "dusty mess." It was a beautiful, idyllic place of legend... at one time. It's not anymore. Assuming Magolor was born after the fall of Halcandra, there's no reason he couldn't be named FOR the fall of Halcandra. "False Paradise." "Paradise" being Halcandra. We had something great, we messed it up.

It might be a bit like naming your kid "The Fall of Rome" but who are we to judge.
