how did you first get into phil ochs

one of my very good friends from high school was really into phil and he was the one that first introduced me to his stuff! i knew who he was growing up through a few of his more commercially successful songs (namely “changes” and “there but for fortune”) and his connections to pete seeger, bob dylan, joan baez, and other artists from the sixties folk scene, but wasn't super familiar with his other work. i think that i first was drawn in by the beautiful lyricism and production on pleasures of the harbor and then realized how impactful his topical songwriting was and went back into the rest of his catalogue. cut to over years later, i’m finishing up my chapter of my dissertation on phil’s work! so wild how things can create such an impact on your political social and artistic consciousness with such amazing ripples across time

Izuku wasn’t so sure that was the case. The outcome of a Jankenpon had never been so irrelevant to him. He truly didn’t care about who got two of the three, since he was winning either way. Especially since Kacchan hadn’t let go of his hand yet.

The sound of crawling in the vent could be heard after Sebastian has caught the attention of the person from outside.

Once they reached the entrance, the first thing he saw was an angler light bulb. But as they continued to crawl over, it was a normal human head, but an odd teal-ish skin toned child.

"What was that.. did someone call me?"

Sebastian clasped his claws together in front of him as he studied the newcomer, ear fins giving a curious twitch. This was.. definitely a new sight.

"Oh, hello. That would've been me. My name is Sebastian, a local merchant of sorts. If you didn't hear me the first time, then I suppose I'll say it again: I will trade some of that useless research you might've collected on your journey here for some much more helpful items, if you wish. Whenever you're done, the keycard to the next door is on the table over there for when you're ready to leave."

The saboteur flicks his tail a bit to draw attention to the item pouches strapped to him, the items rattling against his scales with the motion, before one of his clawed hands points at the blue keycard sat on a table, next to a radio that buzzed and fritzed. Then he turns his head to focus once more on what he assumed was an EXR-P in front of him, a frown plastered across his face.

"You look.. Different from the Expendables that come through here usually. And rather young to be down here in the first place. Has Urbanshade really gone as low as to start sending children down here now?"

Monkey D. Luffy - 6. "Piggy back ride?"

Less romance/sweet fluff and more just goofy friendship.

Jungle. Jungle. Jungle. Everywhere you look, more freaking jungle.

You’re hot, you’re sticky and you’re tired. Everyone seems kind of done – except maybe Zoro who seems to still be treating this like some kind of training, and naturally, Luffy. Luffy is bouncing along, excitedly pointing out bugs and admittedly chattering cutely with Robin who is all too happy to talk about every bug the rubber man is pointing out.

“Say, Luffy…” You murmur, squashing down a yawn, “What about a piggy back ride?” 

Instantly his eyes light up, and you have a split second to regret that you weren’t more specific before Luffy leaps onto your back. You trip over your own feet with a yelp and fall, immediately beginning to roll down the hill. 

“Luffy!” You hear Nami yell in exasperation.

“Oh dear.” Robin says with thinly veiled amusement. You don’t hold it against her, because a moment later, hands sprout out of the ground and grab hold of you to stop you from rolling any further. 

You’re laying face down and Luffy is still on your back, wrapped around you. He’s giggling like the crazy rubber man he is, while you sigh and blow some leaves away from your face.

“This wasn’t exactly what I meant, Luffy.” You mumble, and he laughs again.

“It was fun though, right?” He asks, making you groan. 

“If I say yes, can I have the piggy back ride next time?”

His arms unwrap from you, still laughing brightly as he hauls you back up to your feet and then turns around to allow you to jump onto his back. You sigh with relief, just as Usopp asks with complaint in his tone why you get a ride.

Naturally, he changes his mind when Luffy begins to run full tilt down the hill and all they hear is your scream on the wind.

When he finally reaches the ship, you’re clinging to him so tightly that your fingers are making indents in his rubbery skin. Anyone else would have complained but Luffy doesn’t even seem to notice that you have an absolute death grip on him.

Or maybe he does, since for once he doesn’t just fling you both up on deck but climbs the rope ladder instead. Then he starts stretching himself to turn in your hold and you release your death grip to just your arms looped around him and put your feet down on the deck. Luffy beams at you and wraps his arms around you for a squeezy hug before looking around.

“Hey, where’s everyone else?”

Update: Good news and bad news. The good news is that I will have about double the amount of gif icons of Clement Mansell for the gif pack, thanks to @boydholbrook-fan - Thank you, Kamila! <333 She has allowed me to edit some of her gifs to provide y'all with more Boyd content, which is awesome! I only have access to so much, but I did also manage to find and gif three more clips from the show that I didn't have access to until now! So about double what I had been attempting to get made. The bad news is that...

1) I had to save about 100 under a .webp format and then change them all to .gif before I could edit them and it's taking me A LOT longer than I thought. And 2) on top of that, my body hates me rn. I might be going to the doc's on Monday, if they can fit me in. Tests will determine if I have to have surgery or not, but I'll need to get checked out first. I'll be alright, either way, but until things get sorted out, I'm sort of in pain. I've got some pain meds, but it's not helpin' a whole lot. But no worries. It's nothin' too serious. I may just need my reproductive parts taken out, which I'm totally okay with. I already had two kids and am happy to get them yoinked outta me. Lol! Just... I'd appreciate it if my system didn't kick my ass so damn hard. Lol!

All that bein' said, I apologize for the delay with the gif icons. I was aiming for Monday night, but it may be more like Wednesday or Thursday, depending on how I'm feeling. Possibly later, but I'm really tryin' to get them done asap.

Thanks for your patience! But hey, y'all will have a good 250+ gif icons of Clement Mansell so that'll be awesome! I'll even use some for my own muse, eventually.

Explanation + Spoilers for Water Lessons!

Skip this if you don't want spoilers for chapter seven of my fic, Water Lessons. This might also include spoilers for chapter eight which has yet to be released at this time. NSFW warning!

A commenter on AO3 wanted more information on the Hakoda, Kya, and Ursa love triangle subplot I added. It might seem that I did it on a whim (Tbh, I kinda did at first), but I have my reasons, I promise.

First, the commenter asked, "What where the feelings of the three of them that night?" As mentioned, Ursa thinks both Kya and Hakoda are hot. Ursa is, on some level, also a bit jealous of their relationship. Of course, they have their flaws, but to someone who was married to and is now divorced from Ozai, they are perfect. They love each other, they have fun with each other, and they have great bonds with their children.

As for Kya, she does realize that Ursa has not had best marriage in the world. While finding her attractive, she still wants to be loyal to her husband. HC for this fic is that she's never been with anyone else other than Hakoda. High school sweethearts, you know? But... what if she does want to try being with someone else after all this time? What if she wants to know that Ursa is happy being alone? A good friend would want their best friend happy, right?

Hakoda on the other hand? His loving wife and some other attractive, trustworthy woman? He'll never say that out loud but perhaps he has imagined what Ursa might be like in bed. His wife is wonderful! Perfect! Yet... like Kya, could it be a bad thing to add spice to their bedroom? (IRL, PROBABLY YES, IT COULD BE BAD)

That drunken night, Hakoda got frisky with his wife. Being slightly drunk, Kya says it isn't fair for Ursa to only watch. A switch flipped on in Kya's brain as she watched Hakoda play with another woman. That IS hot. Alcohol mixing with pent up emotions/desires is a great way to have fun and/or have regrets in the morning.

The commenter then asks, "Would it be a one night only thing or go further?" Honestly, idk. I didn't think that far ahead tbh but we'll get to the meta stuff later. Regret would be felt by all parties, especially with all their children now knowing. For Ursa, her ex-brother-in-law is there on vacation with them! How awkward is that?! If it does continue, it would be after things cool off. Or maybe things don't happen. Two of their respective children are starting to date. Like I told that commenter, the three of them did have secret ideas of them doing something together again on this vacation.

Meta Analysis Time!

This whole story has two goals/themes: Getting Sokkla to happen and showing Azula grow as a person and overcoming her fears.

Learning about the threesome that took place goes on to be the catalyst for the "first major section" of chapter eight, "A New Day." (I guess it should be "A New Several Days" but whatever!) I don't want to give away too many spoilers but… lol… Azula reflects and makes a decision. It's that decision that I hope gets the ball rolling on "Azula has gone through a character arc." IDK if my arc for her is easy to see/understand but again, I'm trying. My writing is far from perfect. Since the subplot does not directly affect the final scenes I have planned, I didn't bother expanding on the love triangle aspect of the story other than it did happen.

Now… recall how I mentioned that I added the whole subplot as a joke? This whole fic started out as two ideas: Azula biting Sokka’s during a sexual scene and her reaction to Ursa sharing what she did.

[Christinne] Ughhh, the way you're starting to sound exactly like my mother is kind of worrying me. And that last part...

Jasmine: Does your OC like flowers? Which type of flower is their favorite?

She does!! She even likes to learn about flowers' different cultural significance and symbolisms. Naturally her favorite flowers are amaryllis, matching with her surname and which is also why they sprout from her blood when she's done fighting (her favorite color variety of amaryllis is "elvas", which are white with red accents). She also likes hydrangeas because she thinks the petals look like tiny butterflies.

Lemon Balm: Does your OC have any bedtime habits or rituals?

I honestly need to think more about this but I do think that Yuna would have some sort of ritual that involves setting up a protective charm around the ship so that the crew can sleep peacefully. One idea is that she does this by performing a certain dance as a form of prayer, though it's more out of habit and putting her mind at ease than actual belief in its effectiveness. Afterwards, she would read something to wind down and help her drift off to sleep. She'll also have a warm cup of spiced milk & honey drink.

It's been a long day but I finally managed to finish the keyed route of Sol's birthday event! I'm literally crying as I make this post oml—

I'm having massive mood swings rn so they're intensifying my emotions but yes!! The concept of family is so dear to Sol and oh my god I couldn't help tearing up when he said that he hopes we could be a family someday, especially considering how he didn't expect us to offer to help him and mentioning that he usually works alone, not to mention how he tends to act on autopilot and neglects his health as he immerses himself in his research

I have many, many, MANY THOUGHTS about this story and I can't wait to talk about them but that may have to wait since I still have some schoolwork to do so I might just write them down somewhere in the meantime if I can (I hope I don't forget them!)

Even though the event was released two days later, this is one of the best birthday presents ever for this year

face: Describe your OC's face. What's their smile like? Are their orbs cerulean? What would someone notice first when looking at them?

davil starsong has a classically handsome face for a sun elf, with a sharp, fine bone structure, heavily-lashed green eyes, and thick, shiny dark blond hair. besides his objective attractiveness, davil also practically oozes rizz; his expression is one that defaults to "politely flirtatious," dedicating the full force of his attention to whoever he is interacting with in a way that is never inappropriate and is very disarming. the first thing a stranger would notice about him is the warm friendliness of his body language and facial expressions, completely devoid of stereotypical surface elf pretentiousness

fel'rekt lafeen has what I can best describe as a kind face: his resting expression is light and open, almost in a smile. to a surfacer, his most standout features would be the bold scarring across his eye, lip, and jaw, clear markers of a violent career. to someone from menzoberranzan, his most noticeable feature is unquestionably his eyes. fel'rekt's eyes are uncommonly blue, a deep slate color that is certainly the result of something more than the normal lightening that occurs when underdark drow move to the surface. to a lesser extent, his haircut is also unusual: cropped in a style of some sword coast humans, too short to be tied up

motion: How does your OC move? How does their clothing help or hinder their range of motion? Are they flexible, coordinated, clumsy?

davil is, in all things, a Performer: sweeping gestures to emphasize his speech, a light swagger when he walks, expressive head tilts and shoulder shrugs when he is listening to someone else. his clothing generally doesn’t hinder how he moves, although he doesn’t intentionally choose things with mobility in mind. his boots do change his stride a bit, though, as he prefers them with a short heel that lengthens his silhouette and audibly clicks when he walks

fel’rekt moves like a big cat: quiet, purposeful, dexterous but with a clear strength and weight to his body. he exclusively wears clothes that give him full range of motion and made of fabrics that have give so as not to rip anything at the seams while climbing to commit light b&e 

stillness: How does your OC act while still? Are they fidgety? Do they have any common gestures or tics? Does their clothing affect how they hold themselves while at rest?

davil is rarely completely still, although less in the “fidgety” sense and more in the “active engagement” sense. listening to music gets a foot or finger tap, talking with another person at rest has him mirroring their gestures, and relaxing on his own often leads to practicing musical fingerings for new songs sans instrument

fel’rekt once again gets the ‘big cat’ designation: languid and boneless with the sense that that energy could shift in the blink of an eye. he has a tendency to gently sprawl (an arm over the back of a chair, legs kicked out in front of him, etc) but never in such a way that is off-balance or restrictive of potential movement

day: What does your OC wear on a normal day? Why do they default to those clothes? Do they wear similar things, or do they change it up?

davil has an expansive, cosmopolitan wardrobe built over many years living in the greatest trade city in the world, so he doesn't have one singular style or cut of clothing that is "normal," but there are shared traits of all of his day-to-day wear: first, they have been tailored to fit perfectly. second, the fabric and accessory colors chosen harmonize with his complexion. third, there are at least three places to hide a dagger within each outfit. fourth, the winged snake tattoo on his pec is always covered. and finally, he is never over- or under-dressed for any occasion

fel’rekt, both as himself and as his carnie humansona, defaults to aforementioned fabrics-with-give in dark neutral tones and cuts of clothing that are fairly fitted without being restrictive. this, again, is more of a practicality than a result of personal style; if one were to remove him entirely from his day (night) job and take him shopping, he would gravitate to linens and wool in cool colors and looser cuts. also, while his disguising amulet and symbol of eilistraee are always a given, in a non-work environment he wears subtle jewelry, like plain heavy rings and metal ear studs
